yknow sometimes i get why tumblr had so many insanely obvious hoaxes gain traction bc the way some people on here will eviscerate people for being even slightly incredulous about something is honestly scary
#like. that lady who claimed the wachowskis stole the plot of the matrix from her got traction here dude#she claimed aliens gave it to her. come on guys.#ik ppl think of like. alexandria's genesis or infinite chocolate or the tubby custard machine/hot dog thing#and while those are dumb and something you would expect an adult with critical thinking skills to recognize as false#they are kind of ultimately harmless to believe. like worst case scenario you stop eating hot dogs or you fuck up some chocolate#but also it's a symptom of a larger problem bc people extend the same credulity to like. accusations of serious crimes#and it's just equally unwarranted#but god forbid you call someone on tumblr with no sources and no credentials a liar#because that makes you just as bad as the person trying to ruin someone's life with little to no evidence#tl;dr tumblr has a huge misinfo problem bc the culture here is that it's morally wrong to not take someone at their word#and sometimes the results are 'bitch that's the tubby custard machine'#but also sometimes the results are people being stalked and harassed off the internet over actual nothing#also wrt my first example bc I think some ppl might misconstrue it#yes there are instances of ppl on here making false accusations bc they were genuinely under the delusion those things were true#(the m*tski s*x sl*ve thing to name a more well-known one)#that does not mean they are malicious actors im obviously not saying that#but also. if you are mentally well enough to recognize something is not logically consistent you don’t have to believe it

Okay, Matrix plagiarism case postscript
One thing I didn't answer is how she got the Wachowski's timeline wrong. I still don't know, but it appears she essentially shifted their lives back a decade
Tumblr media
She says less than a decade ago they were running a construction business, but actually, working at a construction company is what they were doing in 1986. In 1976 Lana and Lilly were eleven and nine years old respectively. I can't explain why she messed this up, beyond having to age them up a decade for the story to work
But this screencap also brings up another thing she mentions repeatedly that I didn't mention - the smoking gun in her claim is that...the Matrix ripped off her words verbatim for its opening crawl. The opening crawl...to The Matrix.
Huh?
So her story is - and unsurprisingly the timeline here is jumbled, for instance, citing production interviews from 1997 when the film wouldn't enter production until 1998 - the original version of The Matrix contained a Star Wars-style opening crawl, and this was the most directly plagiarized part of the film.
Tumblr media
She claims this opening crawl was, in fact, in the theatrical release of The Matrix and only removed when it came to home media, because she. Because she called the FBI on the Wachowskis for stealing the idea of opening crawls from her
The theatrical cut does differ from later versions slightly - most infamously the Wachowskis made the green color filter much more green in the second DVD release, to make it consistent with the style of the sequels - but if there was a opening crawl mandated by the studio, nobody but her has mentioned it, and I find it hard to believe critics wouldn't mention it.
Because this is Dark City. She's clearly confused The Matrix with stories about the studio's meddling with the 1998 film Dark City.
Dark City was the dystopian sci-fi film that had a opening narration explaining the whole plot foisted on it by the studio, and critics mentioned it. Basically every review mentioned it (some even suggest covering your ears or muting the film the first time you see it, at least until the Director's Cut removed it). Meanwhile, reviews of The Matrix praised its opening from the very beginning: how it drops you right into things and lets you find out about its world as Neo does. It's just not possible that the theatrical release has a opening crawl no one mentioned when I can pull up full comparisons of theatrical vs first DVD vs second DVD vs Bluray. Whatever story she read either was about Dark City, or was a Wachowski saying in passing "yeah the studio wanted us to add one but we didn't".
Another thing I didn't touch on is just how much it hypes her up as a untouchable genius of cinema. For instance, she claims to have come up with the effects of The Matrix in 1983 too
(one funny part is how little she brings up The Terminator at all? She just threw it in as a bonus I guess)
Tumblr media
I looked up how they did the bullet time effect in particular and...it would have been impossible in 1983. It's not just high speed photography; it's entire banks of cameras, placed in the right place by computer previsualization, their sequence programmed, and with all the elements composited together by CGI. Even stylistically - the true creator of the effects cited Akira as a influence, and Akira the movie didn't exist in 1983. Neither did the type of Hong Kong action film that heavily influenced it. I guess it would be possible to write down "someone goes really fast and we depict it like they slowed down time", concepts of a plan etc
But like.
Tumblr media
She's destined to be one of the most profound master writers of the 21st century. This is a book proving she's never written anything. It has a pitch for The Third Eye, it has a second film treatment tacked on at the end, and it has copyright registrations for her sequels to Terminator and The Matrix. M. Night Shyamalan's character in Lady in the Water was destined to be a great writer too, but he actually wrote a book. He didn't put out a book with a decades-old synposis that was never finished & reams of legal documents and a bio saying, I'm one of the greatest authors of all time. Because who needs writing when you have destiny, God, and the ancient superrace living in the Pyramids on your side?
This is my for real last post on this since I ended up just depressed about it in the end. I think the worst part is, she knows she lost. But she still goes to the press telling a story she knows isn't true, and people believe her. Some of it is transphobic - "stop saying it's a trans allegory when they stole it"; some of it runs with the Christian oppression narrative (full disclosure, I was inspired to look for her book again bc while looking up another crank, I saw an interview with her in the sidebar of a religious website); but a lot of it is just people who innocently want it to be true.
One of the few pieces debunking her story is on a website called Black Excellence - it doesn't even have a byline - said this:
"There are many people, especially Black people, who wanted the story to be true. It symbolized a Black person, especially a Black woman, finally winning against the system. When Sophia Stewart spoke about how mainstream media would not give her the time of day because almost all of them were owned by Warner Brothers, some Black media embraced her. Blogs spread her story, especially the initial story on Globe that contained errors about the case.
"But the story is not true. Sophia Stewart did not become the richest Black person in the country. But that did not deter her from going on several shows and publications to tell her story."
She took advantage of people's urge to root for the underdog against a corporation - and seized on a lack of mainstream coverage to claim her story was being suppressed. But it just isn't true. Also yeah she ridiculously claims that Warner Bros owns every news website and newspaper and that's kind of funny I guess. Well, that's it. I'm never doing this again

The best part of any Matrix movie is when the Wachowski Sisters smash cut from a shootout or dialogue scene to the interior of a nasty ass leather bar or S&M dungeon or whatever accompanied by a sick beat drop

Writeblr intro
Last Updated: Mar 2024 So, I realised I hadn't actually written one of these, and I had to fix it!
Name: Magpie, or Shelle, or Michelle.
Pronouns: she/her or xe/xer/xis.
Who: both a writer and an editor!
The Writing: I’ve been publishing since 2011, and I have a bunch of free and paid anthologies I’ve organized, but these are my most important/favourite works.
Tumblr media
Except for The Meaning Wars series, all of my books are set in Canada!
The Meaning Wars (complete; And The Stars Will Sing, The Stolen: Two Short Stories, The Meaning Wars, Poe’s Outlaws, A Jade’s Trick, The Meaning Wars Complete Omnibus)
Similar to: Becky Chambers’ A Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet and Ruthanna Emrys’ A Half-Built Garden
Vibes: Space opera! Found family! Mature (30s) protagonists! Best friends! Sapphic and queer m/f romance elements! Friendly space raptors! Space pirates! A beach episode! Antifascism! Colonization (and inequality issues)! Fighting stuff with democracy and direct action!
The Underlighters (Book 1 of The Nightmare Cycle; Book 2, Monsters and Fools, is complete and in edits. Book 3, The Foundling City, is a current WIP!)
Similar to: Jean DuPrau’s The City of Ember, Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, the Fallout series
Vibes: Coming of age/new adult themes. Spooky monsters. Post-apocalyptic. The importance and warmth of community. Friendship. Struggling with teen problems. Polyamory. Nightmares. Mental health issues. Trauma. Hope. Recycling.
After The Garden (Book 1 of the Memory Bearers Saga; Book 2, Within the Tempest, is also one of my WIPs)
Similar to: Margaret Atwood’s Oryx and Crake, The Wachowski sisters’ Sense-8, the Fallout series
Vibes: Found family. Gentle romance. Polyamory (m/f/m). Superpowers without superheroes. Sinister cults and religious extremism. Reincarnation. An alternate future. Adorable giant spiders. Silk-weaving and fiber arts. Post-collapse societal reorganization and politics.
The Loved, The Lost, The Dreaming: A Horror Anthology includes an alternate-ending version of The Underlighters, the novella A Shot of Vodka, and a dozen or so genre-crossing short stories. All of them have spooky elements.
Similar to: Neil Gaiman’s Smoke and Mirrors, Roald Dahl’s Skin and Other Stories (this is not an endorsement of antisemite Roald Dahl; I am antifascist)
Vibes: Underground living. Spooky dolls. Abandoned houses. Queerness. Sinister fey. Nightmares. Lovecraftian eeriness. Here be monsters.
Bad Things That Happen To Girls (Book 1 of the Memory Bearers Saga; Book 2, Within the Tempest, is also one of my WIPs) Possibly my most underrated work, this New Adultish story is a standalone novella about trauma and what happens when life breaks down.
Similar to: Emily Danforth’sThe Miseducation of Cameron Post and Miriam Toews’ A Complicated Kindness
Vibes: Broken family. Abusive mother. Being queer in a small city. Religious trauma. Forbidden cross-cultural love. Teen heartbreak. Coming-of-age. Sisters.
The Hell series (Unpublished WIPs; Dark as Hell, Uncharted Hell, Hope in Hell)
Similar to: Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, Andrej Sapkowski’s The Witcher series
Vibes: Grumpy/sunshine romance! Mature protagonists! Queer f/m romance! Thriller elements! Immortal pirate! Marxist/anti-billionaire politics—with a billionaire protag! Lovecraftian ocean horror! Historical fantasy elements! Lots and lots of boat stuff!
Prairie Weather Trilogy (Unpublished but complete, in submission; Chinook Phase, Tornado Warning, Brushfire)

(I don't know how many things I've worked on at this point. I've lost count!) Primarily into sci fi, fantasy, horror, and literature (and associated subgenres); enthusiastic about #ownvoices and all kinds of diversity/marginalised representation in fiction.
You don’t have to go through Upwork unless you want to; DM me if you’re looking for an editor who’s knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and gentle. I’m also budget-friendly!
Tumblr media
Age: in my 30s.
Queer?: yes. Also poly! Happily married to two people; also have a girlfriend. Not looking for more partners.

I have a few more notes for this M&S AU:
• The Mario movie takes place at the same time as the first Sonic movie, with almost nothing about the latter film changing beyond the accommodations of Marylin being a child while simultaneously taking Tom's place. Let's just assume the rest of the family members are each forced into their own adventures as an excuse for them not to worry about three of their own missing. Finally, because I still want the Wachowskis to be around in some capacity, Marylin and Jojo are penpals.
• Marylin tags along with Sonic and Tails because it's funny imagining her bouncing off of Sonic's impulsivity and Tails' naiveté. Rather than Siberia, the location of the Master Emerald compass is nearby the penguins' kingdom, because clearly that has to be an important location if they had a Super Star. Instead of a wedding in Hawaii, the family decides to take a vacation in the Mushroom Kingdom, and Sonic and Marylin stay behind do to their own thing together, and the majority of the GUN subplot is scrapped because there's no catfishing involved. As for the Master Emerald shrine, it doesn't have to be near a specific location, but for narrative-weaving purposes, let's place it around the Jungle Kingdom, which now that I think about it could also work on account of both the echidnas and the Kongs being strength-based. In the time Tails preps the Tornado, he also builds Marylin special armor to help out in the fight, while everyone in the family uses power-ups to protect the city while Team Sonic + Marylin fight off Robotnik and are all there for Sonic before he goes Super.
• Rosalina has to be connected to Shadow and Maria in some way
I like this a lot. The connection between the two movies feels natural and not forced. I like the idea of the Master Emerald temple being in the Jungle Kingdom, I like the idea of Mary, Sonic, and Tails bonding and going on this adventure together. And having the GUN subplot scrapped is great. Also Mary and Jojo being pen pals is a concept I really like. This AU is a cool idea and maybe I'll do some concept sketches when I have the time.

this post is going to be under construction for forever, basically.
Tumblr media
i haven't decided on my fake name yet. i live in chicago but i'm leaving soon. late twenties. male. i hold an MFA in creative writing and a BA in game development.
i write fantasy, primarily dark fantasy, but am also interested in urban fantasy and historical fantasy. i have a decade of experience writing and posting fanfic in many different fandoms.
my writing focuses on themes of masculinity and homophobia, transness, sexuality and kink, disability, and gay love/romance.
i speak english and have a questionable grasp of french and czech. i am studying norwegian and old norse/icelandic.
i'm open to tag games and the like but it will probably take me a minute to get to them.
Tumblr media
fiction: i'm really passionate about YA lit, even though i'm not writing any right now. my favorite YA authors are laini taylor, alex london (yes, the one plagiarized by james somerton), and margaret rogerson.
my favorite (adult) fiction authors are cathrynne m. valente, ursula k. le guin, and brandon sanderson. my favorite nonfiction authors are neil price, richard preston, and lindsey fitzharris.
film: my favorite directors are masaaki yuasa, robert eggers, and the wachowski sisters. my favorite films are cloud atlas (2012), ravenous (1999), mind game (2004), pom poko (1994), and trick or treat (1986).
i love B movies, and i have a growing collection of DVD movie packs and vinegar syndrome special editions. i have the oversized "champagne and bullets" poster hanging on my wall, and i own the miami connection soundtrack on vinyl. i am one of the only people on earth unironically interested in the history of shot-on-video movies.
music: anything in the "alternative" sphere, but i have a special fondness for folk punk and psychobilly/horrorpunk. my favorite bands are the mountain goats, AJJ, florence + the machine, aganst me!, editors, and baroness.
study/academic topics: my thesis is largely inspired by my passion for viking/medieval scandinavian history and culture. i am studying old norse/old icelandic, in the hopes of being able to read the sagas in their original language.
i love medical history and know everything there is to know about WWI-era facial reconstructive surgery, and plan to write a story about it someday (i was into it before the fitzharris book, goddammit!). i will read any nonfiction book about a part of medical history, whether it's a specific disease or a technique or field.
other: lake superior and the minnesota north shore, minnesota public radio, food culture and food writing, candles and incense that smell like the woods, tattoos that look like woodcuts, collecting enamel pins, travel patches, and mosser cats, fiber arts.
Tumblr media
my thesis: a grand-scale dark fantasy novel about a misanthropic wizard academic and an alcoholic viking mercenary trying to save the world. main themes: cultural homophobia, misogyny, and machismo and the way they affect gay men, fascism and surviving under hostile systems, sacrifice and what makes a world worth saving, languages and the way they affect our lives, romance.
vampire story: a short story about a vampire that works at hot topic befriending a community college student in 2007. main themes: being suicidal and what makes life worth living, connection, romance.
viking story: a short horror story about a viking that gets stuck in a cave while searching for his unrequited love, who may or may not be dead. main themes: homophobia and machismo, grief and mourning.
i don't like naming things.
Tumblr media
i don't care who follows me.
this blog is occasionally NSFW.
if you post a lot about political issues, i will not follow you. this is because i am here for fun, not to be angry, depressed, homicidal, or suicidal. if you do not like that, get bent. it will not change.
if you are weird to me, i will block you.
if you, under any circumstances, refer to me or any of my male characters as baby, baby girl, girlie, bitch, princess, or any other infantilizing, misogynistic horseshit, i will block you.
that's it.

Hey Mystery, want a story? :3 Might be a little sad, but I tried to make it also sweet
'No...no! M-Maria! Don't do it! No! Maria!'
-
Shadow awoke with a gasp. Sitting up quickly...just another nightmare. Another one...he had been doing so well since the incident...but these last few nights, they seem to keep coming back...
And then Shadow jolted again - at who was next to him. The...drooling...goofy...scatterbrain mutt, Ozzie.
Shadow thought he closed the door when he retired to bed that night, he wasn't sure HOW Ozzie opened the door (He somewhat swore Ozzie had superpowers). Usually Ozzie would be in Tom and Maddie's bedroom, or on other nights, asleep with the Wachowski siblings...
But tonight...Ozzie was with him.
Shadow was still shaking from those night terrors, his eyes stung from tears threatening to leak.
Ozzie tilted his head a bit, and gently laid his head across Shadow's lap. Shadow froze, hesitant...but...he didn't move him...he gently laid a hand on his head.
He tried to copy the breathing technique he saw Maddie use with Sonic occasionally...in through the nose...out through the mouth. For the blue hedgehog it worked wonders! ...Shadow tried...it was working...slowly. And Ozzie just stayed there.
Once Shadow finally calmed down, Ozzie jumped onto the bed - and plonked his head on the pillows. Shadow was too tired to move him away...and curled up beside him instead...in a familiar position when he was sent to Earth...all those years ago...
He clung to Ozzie's fur gently, tears threatening to fall again. Although it was just past midnight, he could see glimmers of the moonlight on Ozzie's golden fur....golden fur...similar to the golden blonde hair of...
Ozzie didn't know why this black hedgehog was acting this way...but he didn't care. He just laid there, and fell asleep. If only he knew how much help he was.
Any other night, Shadow would've just urged the pupper to leave. Tonight however...Shadow was so thankful to have Ozzie there for him.
After a few more tears...Shadow found sudden peace...and let sleep overtake him...resting his head on his golden companion, a tiny smile slowly forming in thanks...he'll make sure to properly thank Ozzie in the morning.
Tumblr media
Ohhhh…. Ohhhhh….. 🥺
