Lumine looks at the boy and tries to smile and nod along, but she’s fairly sure her smile looked even more stressed than the bags under her eyes.  “And Venti made us promise to send him a pigeon if we were in danger.” Nora reassures, much to Lumine's confusion, A pigeon?! You're going to send a pigeon if you're in danger?! What good is a stupid bird going to do!? Are these people crazy?!   Everyone else – unaware of Lumine's mental breakdown— continues to banter, “And if you guys don’t, you're grounded.” Venti glares.

Pandemonium pulses with heat and magic.

The mundane floor of Pandemonium has long been closed and the levels for the shadowworld are just beginning to wane.

No vampires remain this close to the dawn - while Magnus didn't plan it for that reason - he can't help but be pleased to know that none of them will be around to scent Alexander's nephilim blood and covet him.

Even if for different reasons than Magnus’ own.

If Alexander comes.

Though Magnus certainly hopes he will.

Magnus can’t see him yet, but he feels the weight of Alexander’s attention, the depth of his gaze as soon as he enters.

The wards have barely warned him that a nephilim has entered and Magnus is turning.

He settles back into his throne — specifically sized for two — and takes a sip of his drink.

Alexander's steady approach is as sure as one of his arrows. From the moment he’s entered he’s looked at no one and nothing other than Magnus.

He melds seamlessly into the crowd, but only because he slips through the mass of bodies like a thread of deadly silk. Unerring in his accuracy as if he can’t bear to take the longer way to reach Magnus.

Magnus discreetly snaps his fingers and the signal alerting his guards to let someone pass goes off just as Alexander reaches the stairs.

Despite their obvious confusion, they obey and Alexander approaches and Magnus hungry gaze devours him.

There’s something sharp and dangerous in the air as the night turns to day.

Once the last vampire has left, the ceiling opens up and the dance of the sky peeks through as the sun ebbs and the night wanes.

The lights of the club dim to starlight and fairy lights and as soon as the sky is more pink than gray, the night is over and the floor closes.

Here and now, the first steaks of dawn break across the sky and something dangerous slips past.

Oh Pandemonium is always dangerous. But it’s a learned and sought after type of risk.

This is cold and biting and so different from the rousing heat of the club that it nearly burns.

everyone always says xiao is mysterious and i agree - but the thing is, he's not only that way because he doesn't talk a lot. it's also because when he says something, it doesn't mean it's the whole truth about him.

xiao tells lumine that he's unable to understand human emotions but he's one of the most gentle souls she's ever met. he says she shouldn't get too close to him and then, swears that he will be always there when she calls. birthdays are useless in his eyes but he makes a gift for her, nonetheless. sight seeing in the city is not his thing but he's still willing to go there with her - for her.

it's all a bunch of little white lies xiao tells her and himself; and it takes everything in lumine to pretend not to notice it.

because although he might say he's not emotional nor romantic, she sees something way different. every little gesture, like how he makes use of any excuse - no matter how flimsy it is - just to touch her and stay by her side longer. the longing glances when his gaze always searches for her figure in every room he enters. she feels his eyes linger on the expanse of her skin even when the conversation between them is over, burning in a way that makes her want to grab him by the collar of his shirt and kiss him senseless.

it makes lumine tense, too. just a little.

even when he's silent, xiao's aura is so intense...

there's more to him. perhaps, it's something he isn't truly aware of. but perhaps, he knows that emotions - that odd hunger and yearning that flashes across his face from time to time - he hides are deep enough to push him to the point of no return, swallow him whole and destroy his self-control. the enormity of fondness he holds for her is scary at times–

nonetheless... xiao lumine knows - the honest and open side of him - is kind, gentle.

no matter how careless she is, he takes care if her and is worried about her well-being more than she is. he stays by her side at night to make sure she sleeps well. his voice softens while he's speaking to her, too - when he says her name like it means everything to him. like she is everything he has ever wished for and more.

and maybe, hopefully, it's true and xiao wants lumine. just how she wants him, if not more.
