I see your "Luigi suffers from symptoms of PTSD after the events of the movie" scenarios and I raise you "Mario ALSO suffers from symptoms of PTSD but makes it so much worse for himself because he strongly believes that he doesn't deserve to be emotionally struggling with things, Luigi was the one who went through a horrible time, Luigi was the one who suffered BECAUSE of Mario and his stupid decisions, Luigi was the one who almost died when Mario nearly didn't reach him in time, so how dare Mario focus on his own sorry emotions for even a second, nothing's wrong with him, he needs to stay 100% focused on making sure his brother's okay, he is completely FINE and IN CONTROL and taking care of things like he always does and he's definitely not on the verge of having a panic attack every time Luigi's out of his sight for more than a few minutes, not even a little bit, no one can prove anything!!!"
(That adrenaline after they won the final battle is gonna last for a while, but once it wears off and Mario really has time to think about what happened and hear more about what Luigi went through and register how CLOSE that rescue really was and how it SO easily could have gone wrong, especially as someone whose sense of worth and way of showing love is clearly wrapped up in being The One Who Protects....ohhhhh boy. Honey, you've got a big storm coming.)
(And of course Luigi senses that something is wrong. He knows his brother, has known him for their entire lives, they can practically read each other's minds sometimes. It's just always tough at first to push through Mario's relentless "don't worry about me, let me worry about YOU" exterior and get him to admit that he is Not All Right. But that doesn't stop Luigi from gently, patiently trying again and again until he finally breaks through. They can both take turns being the strong one while the other falls apart!)
(What I'm saying is LET THESE BOYS CRY IT OUT TOGETHER AND THEN SLEEP NEXT TO EACH OTHER FOR 12 HOURS STRAIGHT AT MINIMUM, THANK YOU.)

What do you mean "the weird amount of people that think Mario and Luigi are twins" there's literal, actual official texts that states that the two ARE twins. Did you even plays at least on Yoshi's Island game????????
you misread my text and i also misworded my tag. i meant to say that a weird amount of people think that they aren’t twins but i was out running errands at the time and didn’t proofread 🫠
but i do immediately after that say that they aren’t outrageously older than the other (like the live action mario movie)

Another day of being hit with the realization that people think beanish can get like 1000 years old because they can't tell that Bubbles was just making shit up
Also another day of realizing that people think Cackletta is an old old old lady I get where it comes from but she's really not
She gets kinda angry when you assume her age to be 40+ rip
Happens very often though, even in her own universe

Apropos of nothing, here's my personal headcanon in regards to Mario and Luigi's surname.
Now, it's been generally announced and accepted that the brothers' last name is "Mario," shackling them with the somewhat awkward full names of "Mario Mario" and "Luigi Mario." My take on this is that the family's original last name was "Marianetti" (likely coming from the more common "Marinetti"). This name was changed to "Marionetti" when the boys' grandmother came over from Italy. (A common occurrence in record keeping at immigration at the time. Someone probably had bad handwriting and smudged a pencil stroke somewhere. It happened in my family for sure).
In Brooklyn, their father went by the last name "Marionetti," which ended up shortened to just "Mario," as oftentimes he would be addressed by his surname only. (Think, "Hey, Mario! Get over here!" as opposed to "Hey, Marionetti! Get over here!")
So, the boys are born and get their names. (Their father's middle name was Mario, and so our Mario, being the oldest, inherits his father's middle name as his first name. Luigi's name maybe comes from the middle name of some uncle who is long out of the picture).
So we have "Mario Marionetti" and "Luigi Marionetti." Which, their surname being a mouthful, gets shortened to "Mario" more often than not, just like their father. And thus we end up with "Mario Mario" and "Luigi Mario," culminating in the "Mario Brothers."

I would like to make a post with every Disney magazine/book series currently published, by country, to help people orienting themselves in this environment.
Of course I will start with Italy (and I ask for everyone from a different country to share their perspective of their own Disney magazines. For example the Brazilian Culturama ones... I have a hard time understanding the different identities of the various titles titles).
ITALY - Part 1
Topolino (1949-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The flagship title, that publishes new original stories every week. Although it is named after Mickey Mouse, duck stories have always been pretty prevalent, but the trend has never been as strong as in northern european countries. It has now 164 pages, so it accomodates both long stories (with chapters on different issues or in the same libretto) and shorter ones. It is truly a magazine, so the comic stories are accompanied with artciles about lifestyle, games and more.
I Classici Disney [2nd series] (1977-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the most historical of the reprint titles: since its first iteration, in 1957, it helped to spread Disney comics culture to generations of readers, proposing classics to kids and adults who may have lost track of them in the weekly magazine. The new revamp of the second series (since 2019, and following some changes in 2021) goes back to the original format of linking the stories proposed in longer narrations through inbetween pages, now written by some reknown Disney writer, who gets to choose the stories too. The title has generally reprinted more recent stories, compared to the subsequent I Grandi Classici, and nowadays thw covers are by Stefano Zanchi. It is published once every two months (plus a special summer issue).
I Grandi Classici Disney [2nd series] (2016-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I Grandi Classici has been another title of reprints, but with a lens more interested in digging up older stories than the ones proposed in I Classici. A big role in defining the identity of the magazine has been played by the never forgotten Luca Boschi, who took the reins of it, becoming the curator, in 2004, during the previous run of the title. He led this book to become more philological, always proposing balanced indexes, between stories which can clearly considered Great Classics, parodies, and more minor and lesser known stories, like some american and S-coded ones. His mantle was then passed over to Pier Luigi Gaspa, who continued to follow this path. As a title dedicated to more in-depth knowledge of the material published, it presents a few articles, detailing the more interesting adventures appearing on its pages every month. Since the 2005 revamp, the cover artist has been Giorgio Cavazzano.
Disney BIG (2008-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the disapponting title. Initially it competed with the Classici for the same stories, period-wise, as it is more centered around recent ones, but, as Classici went back to its original format, BIG could fly more freely in the skies of Disney publications. The main advantage of it is its size. Beaing cheap for its number of pages (initially over 500, now over 400) its popularity rose among parents who want to have their kids occupied for a lenghtier time than the average Disney magazine. But the choice of stories has always been... disapponting. Its size could favour longer and lessen known series, but it rarely went that way, publishing even parts of different series, leaving them unfinished. The selection is, so, pretty random, albeit initially it was supposed to be thematical, a differentiation from other riprints that was soon lost. It is monthly and the covers (which nearly always are dedicated to the first sstory in the volume) have always been done by Corrado Mastantuono.
Paperino (1986-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One of the oldest titles, Paperino is now not much more than the covers of Alessio Coppola. The series started as a ploy to capitalize the popularity of Donald Duck, producing even some original new stories and selecting some old classics. In the 90s it recolored those old stories and, under the guidance of the usual Luca Boschi, developed some taste for lesser known tales, revolving every issue around a theme. Now it mostly reprints itself, with stories having appeared multiple times over the years. Recently the original story has become, more often than not, an Egmont story, as the places to publish foreign material have winded down over the years and to curb the investments on it. It presents, nevertheless, some articles to introduce the stories, every month.
Paperinik (2017-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With the popularity of Paperinik, could we not have a title dedicated to him? Many times the numeration has been rebooted and at every iteration there has been the will to change some minor aspect (proposing a chronological reprint of the stories of the Duck Avenger, publishing the Frittole series, importing some Egmont stories or some DPW ones, getting more "social") but its identity has stayed more or less the same. The title is monthly and the covers are now by Ivan Bigarella.
Zio Paperone (2018-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a more interesting title. Zio Paperone in its previous iterations was the magazine for the "collectors", the Donaldists, if I may say, focusing on Carl Barks, Don Rosa and the artists perceived as the heirs of the Man of the Ducks. The articles and the analysis have been so important for the more cultured readers that it was the go-to title for everyone interested in behind the scenes and te re-discovery of lost material. This new book, started years after the demise of the previous one, has a very different aim: it is pretty much the equivalent of Paperino, but for Uncle Scrooge. The choice of stories has, instead, been pretty interesting, as they always publish a new story (Egmont or, more often, dutch), the "Superstar" adventure in every monthly issue is really a source of interest in many ways. There are a few more articles than the norm (2) and they care to publish even some series (and complete them, do you hear, BIG?). The cover artist is Andrea Freccero.
Almanacco Topolino (2021-)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We end this first episode with the heir of Zio Paperone, the current title for more cultured readers, Almanacco Topolino. Its role is easy: to publish selected new foreign stories, older international stories with some significance and a couple of episodes originally published in the previous historical series of Almanacco. The link between all of these proposals is, among others, the fact that it is mostly dedicated to 4 rows per page stories. Originally edited by Luca Boschi, his mantle has passed to Davide Del Gusto and recently to Marco Travaglini. It has plenty of articles, to dive deep in the Disney lore and it is published once every three months. The cover artists is Emmanuele Baccinelli.
Next time we will dive into the less regular magazines, divided between the more popular ones and the prestige titles.

It's not Luigi Mangione
The Altoona officer's story doesn't match the news reporting, there's a silencer both in the monopoly money backpack and built into the gun, a man who evaded a national manhunt for 5 days supposedly walked into a McDonalds with a hand-written confession and the murder weapon on his person one state away.
I know central Pennsylvania. My brother went to college in Altoona, I drive from there through Huntington every time I visit my parents in the next county over. I know that part of Pennsylvania like the back of my fucking hand. Sparsely populated, mostly declining railroad towns and Amish/Mennonite communities. It's spooky at night because there are no lights for miles. SCI Huntington is the oldest continuously operating prison in the state, meaning it has never been closed for major updates.
High-tech Rockview would be a sensible choice for a national news case. But they chose Huntington, antiquated, in the middle of nowhere, with the most notable nearby businesses being a Pizza Hut and a for-hire security service called Tri State Enforcement. This is where you go to be off record and off camera.
Odds are Mangione will take the fall for it, though. I doubt it will involve a trial. He'll most likely either cave and give a false confession, be extradited from PA entirely, or die in custody where no one will see it.

A Meeting With The Elite Trio: bowser x luigi
Bowser updates his troops on something important, not knowing there's a spy among them
bowuigi halloween event
prompt: transformation
story under the read more
A Meeting With The Elite Trio (also on ao3)
"-Anyway," Bowser said, "I guess I think Mario's brother is hot now. So next time you fight just don't aim for the face."
The Elite Trio blinked at their boss, trying to wrap their heads around the last 3 hours of conversation. Seeing that his troops didn't have any questions, or just not caring to answer since his word was literally law, Bowser decided to smoothly excuse himself.
"Get back to your stations by the time I'm gone," he grunted, dismissing them with a wave. "I gotta take a piss."
And with that he was gone, heavy footsteps thudding through the door.
"..."
"Well that happened." Sergeant Guy said. "I mean, I think we all kinda knew, but at least he thinks we're important enough to be told in person?"
Private Goomp shrugged as well as a goomba could without shoulders. "All I know is that I owe Goombella 20 coins now."
"When did you get in contact with- hey, Corporal, you ok, man?"
Now that he mentioned it, Goomp could see Corporal Paraplonk's skin had been mushroom red for a while now. "Plonks, do ya need t'see the doctor or somethi-"
POOF!
( °0°)!! ( °O°)!! (/)///(\ )
Ah. Well.
Fuck.
There, in the place the Corporal had been seconds earlier, was Green Stache (what was his real name again??) himself. The plumber was wearing a kitsune outfit, voice muffled as he made noises into his hands. Guy could see his ears getting redder.
Not a moment later, the familiar flaps of the real Corporal Paraplonk could be heard.
"Hey guys, what's up!"
Paraplonk smiled, casually waving at the rest of the Trio and the oddly dressed plumber.
Luigi returned the wave and immediately jumped out a nearby window to freedom.
"Huh," Paraplonk said, looking at the window then back to his friends. "What was his problem?"
BONUS: played with the idea of mario being the spy that way the trio could try and capture him before he tells luigi
i'm saying this as the oldest sibling he would definitely tell his brother everything in detail

♦, ▼, ☾, ൠ, ☯ for Mario
♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon
Mario adores carpentry. He’s mostly a practical kinda guy that thrives on working with his hands, but working with wood also lets him express his more artistic side; he’s surprisingly skilled at carving! The only reason he didn’t choose carpentry as his primary trade was because he and Luigi wanted to go into a trade together, and Luigi, being something of a gearhead, just couldn’t click with woodwork. Plumbing seemed like a good halfway point between carpentry and mechanics.
▼ - childhood headcanon
He was one of those kids that you either loved or hated with very little in-between, if you were his peer. His hypochondroplasia and academic struggles made him an easy target for bullying, and his willingness to throw hands if you so much as looked at his brother wrong made him unpopular with people who otherwise wouldn’t mind him that much. But those same traits that isolated him from some groups made him popular in others; there were just as many kids who admired his fearlessness and class clownery and his amazing athletic feats in spite of his physical setbacks. He got used to being a polarizing figure early on.
☾ - sleep headcanon
Copying and pasting this directly from one of my oldest headcanon posts because I don't get to talk about it nearly as much as I'd like and I'm very passionate about it, but-)
Mario has exactly two modes: on and off. He can fall asleep super easily because if he's not a fount of endless energy, he's got absolutely no energy at all. That said, he's got trouble actually staying asleep. His "sleep" is more of a series of naps: lay in bed, fall asleep, wake up two hours later, fall asleep again half an hour later, repeat.
Having something to occupy his hands helps shorten the restless episodes at night. A wooden figurine, a plush toy, a certain princess' hair, anything that gives him distinct tactile sensations; he'll close his eyes and commit the textures to memory, focus on how it feels against his fingers, and before he knows it he's dozing right off again.
ൠ - random headcanon
He’s left-handed. He dealt with enough sprains and breaks through his youth that he’s at least partially ambidextrous; he can write with his right hand when his left is out of commission, but the resulting handwriting is difficult for anyone that isn’t him or Luigi to interpret.
☯ - likes/dislikes headcanon
Summer is his favorite season. You’d think, harboring a magical power that superheats his body and lets him create and control fire, he’d prefer cooler seasons, but nope! He thrives in heat and hates being cold. (Granted, his definition of “cold” is a bit skewed — he could survive for hours in a blizzard wearing nothing more than his overalls and a thin long-sleeve shirt, but he’ll start griping as soon as the temperature drops below 75F.) His Firebrand also responds positively to the presence of external heat, so he’s usually stronger and more energetic during the warmer months.

For your bad knees Luigi headcanon made me think on how the brothers probably deal with wounds/getting hurt
Luigi when he gets hurt: Washes his hands before cleaning the wound and removes any dirt or debris then puts on an antibiotic ointment to help prevent scarring then puts on a bandage or gauze to cover the wound then change the bandage daily to prevent infection.
Mario when he gets hurt: Sticks a bandage on it and calls it a day.
(Aka What I do vs What the rest of my family do)
BUT… when Luigi gets hurt guess who’s the first one to fuss over him and hand over clean bandages and remind him to take his medicine and makes him soup and what not so he feels better?
So to clarify, it’s not that Mario doesn’t know how to take care of a wound and what not, it’s just that he doesn’t bother when he’s the one that’s hurt. He’s the oldest and he doesn’t like getting fussed over or taken care of, he can do that himself!
….But guess who’s the one who would absolutely NOT let Mario get away with doing that😂
I love this idea.
Mario seems like the type of person who is very worried and careful when someone he cares about gets hurt, but is very impatient when it comes to his own injuries and physical limitations. He doesn't have time to worry, he just wants to rub some dirt in it and keep moving.
Meanwhile, Luigi has gone down too may rabbit holes about the dangers of untreated wounds/injuries to not be careful. He is a very big fan of not having gangrene or sepsis, and will take all necessary measures to ensure his brother doesn't allow an untended scratch to turn into a hospital visit.
But I also think that Mario has had Luigi fuss over him often enough that he doesn't really mind. At this point he just numbly lets himself be sat down and tended to while quietly appreciating the support.
