Normal 🍜
Genre: idek | exopower!au Pairing: sehun x Reader Length: 946 Warnings: vague...just like this warning lmfaooo
@avatarren asks: I love Drabble games! I’d like to request number 7 & 11 with Sehun!
a/n: idkw this one was so difficult for me. ig im getting rusty 😭
DRABBLE GAME | MASTERLIST
You were in the kitchen of your small apartment when some commotion caught your attention. You turned around and screamed from the top of your lungs when you saw a dark figure by your open window—which was not opened by you.
“It’s just me!” An urgent, familiar voice assured.
“Oh Sehun!” You cried as you placed a hand over your racing heart. “You scared the hell out of me!”
“You should really lock your windows,” he reprimanded as he closed the one he entered from, before coming into the light of the kitchen. He was dressed like a soldier, his dark hair cut short, exposing his beautifully sculpted face.
“I live on the fourth floor,” you informed him, trying not to get too distracted by his beauty.
“Still….” He leaned against your counter that sat between you both.
You go back to the ramen you were cooking, trying to ignore the tall man behind you.
You’ve known Sehun for five years now. It was a rather long story, but you had gotten yourself tied up in some scary illegal government stuff, and he had helped you out of it. Helped you get back to normality.
Unfortunately, normal was a word he never could get used to himself. He was a soldier, a defender for both this world, and one he no longer inhabited, apparently. It was all very inconceivable. All you truly understood was that he ended up stuck on Earth fighting some evil force, and he and his other friends may or may not have superpowers.
Yeah, very inconceivable.
“Ramen?” You asked.
“Yeah,” he was quick to agree. You put the pot on the counter, handing him some chopsticks. He didn’t waste any time digging in.
“You’re dressed for war,” you mentioned, noting the camo outfit and boots.
He scratched his head. “Suho found a lead. We’re heading out to investigate in the morning.”
“Oh….”
“You scared for me?” He questioned with a smirk, teasing you.
You rolled your eyes. “I should know by now that you don’t need the concern. But…. I feel like somebody needs to. You guys are always putting yourself in danger. Whenever you leave, I always wonder if….”
You were revealing too much, getting to emotional. He caught onto that, and gently asked you to continue.
You inhaled some courage. “I wonder if it’s going to be the last time I’ll ever see you.”
His eyes took you in. You watched as they bounced around, locking with every point of your face.
“You have nothing to worry about,” he finally answered. Not going to lie, you felt disappointment from his reply. “It’s our job. Why we were created.”
“But you have lost people,” you reminded him, thinking about the Luhan fellow he brought up occasionally. The best friend that wasn’t able to escape the hell they endured when they first landed onto this planet. “You are capable of dying, you know?”
“We’re stronger now. And we’re always careful, we know what we’re doing.”
“I know,” you said, dropping your gaze to the little bit of broth left in the pot. You shook your head. “Never mind. Pretend I never mentioned it.”
He went back to quietly observing you. This was what your relationship mostly consisted of. He would pop in out of nowhere and watch you, as though he was trying to understand how humans worked.
He pursed his lips and walked around the counter to stand before you. As if he weren’t completely sure what he was doing, he slowly lifted his glove-covered hands to your face, pulling it up so that you were looking at him. Your breath got caught in your throat at the contact, he’d never touched you before, not like this. It was…intimate.
“Thank you for your concern,” he said. “It makes me feel good, knowing someone cares if I’m dead or alive.”
“Is that why you always come back?” You questioned, sounding a bit more bitter than intended.
He grinned down at you. “You’re my person. You’ll always be the one I go to.”
Your eyes widened from his confession. His person. It was the most romantic thing he’d ever said, but you weren’t sure if that’s what he meant it as or not. Maybe you were reading too much into it. His eyes glimmered with something though, something that led you to believe he was indeed being romantic, in his own little way.
You smiled up at him. “You’re sure it’s not just because you saved me all those years ago?”
“I’ve saved a lot of people,” he told you. “But I don’t check up on them.”
“Just me?” You breathed.
He nodded.
“Okay.” You blushed and glanced away, growing shy. “Well, before you go, I should give you something. As a thank you for saving my life.”
“You don’t owe me anything for that,” he declined.
“All the same.”
You stood up on your tip toes to press your lips against his. It was quick. He didn’t even have time to react before you were falling back to your feet. When you pulled away, he leaned down, returning the gesture. You share a few more kisses, his arms going around your waist, yours to his covered forearms.
When he finally pulled away, he rested his forehead against yours. “I’ll need that again, I think.”
You giggled. “Whenever you’re back from your mission, I’ll gladly give you however many more you want.”
He hummed and gave into the urge to kiss you again, this one lingering. Once you slowly broke it, he left you—out the door this time.
You stood in that kitchen, shaking and praying that he would return unscathed.

plsss pretty sure i read arbitrage n absolute chanyeol too🤭🤭 there was also a luhan x sehun fic i think where they worked together n i think there was cheating with jongin or smth but it was really good but never got finished😓😓😓😓
baby i have more thoughts about feeder!sungchan so bad but now i’m thinking about loser!yangyang god it’s hard being me😔 lmfaooo
who do u like most in ateez rn? i think i’ve said before my bias is wooyoung n then maybe mingi, i love them all a lot though like they’re all special to me<3 i think i saw u talking about wooyoung (saw ur gif reblog he’s soooo fine), hongjoong, mingi, and idk who u were referring to as the angry guy? jongho or san maybe? or seonghwa??
- 🥟 anon
Cheating with Kai... Damn I can't remember with all the stories I've read 😭
Loser yangyang loser yangyang 👀🗣️ I adore him so much I have a draft with him I never finished but it was so dirty 😭(and I'll tell you because I abandoned it too haha), it was about plus size reader fucking yangyang and enjoying it but keeping secret because he was a cinema student and he was pretty... Unique, like wearing thick hoodies in summer, longish hair, a loser in the max expression, and it was kind of sick because at the end of fucking he'd stay by your side until you fell asleep but when you woke up he'd always be in front of his computer watching porn 😭 and it was porn with skinny women so it made you sick fucking someone that watched such content, he'd always be like "it's for a project" but it was so fucked up that he always did it with you there that you always left and came back feeling guilty (he fucked you so good you'd come back) and then you got tired of him so you walked to him when he was doing it, and there you noticed that he wasn't really getting hard on it??? So you finally asked him why he was watching, and he said that he didn't really feel excited when he saw it most of the time, but then you choose the video, which was with a chubbier girl and he instantly popped a boner 😭 you found this so adorable you asked him "then why are you excited now?", to what he answered "because I'm not thinking about her... I'm thinking about you" and he was so pretty with his red cheeks and stuttering that you gave him a handjob while he watched the video, of course while he did it he had to say everything that went through his mind "I want to fuck you like that... You're way prettier than her, the prettiest girl... Fuck I love how your chest moves when you ride me like that"
I'm so sad that I abandoned that fic 😭
Hahaha I thought the angry man was Hongjoong but now that I know them more I see why you'd say Jongho or San 😭. I was referring to the leader because I saw him all angry at those awards telling the staff to do their job and protect the fans, I also saw a video of him saying to the maknae "do you know who I am? How could you not have called once?" And to woo "Would you like it if I forcefully touched you?" "Set the table" also he getting all fuzzy when fans ask him if they can like other idols 🥵, he has these daddy vibes that I always fall for 😵💫

How about this prompt:
41 (make me)
Idol: Luhan×female Reader
I hope you like the idea♥️👀
Also: CONGRATS ON 400 FOLLOWER HUN🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Hello! Thank you so so much! Thank you for sticking around so long, and I looooove this one! I hope you do, too!
Luhan stares at you with dark eyes, his fingers are wrapped around your wrist as he leads you inside after one of your regular date-nights.
“Xīngān,” Luhan murmurs, “Did I tell you how beautiful you look tonight?
You blush at the pet name, a little hard to translate to English, similar to ‘my heart and soul’, as you turn to face him once he shuts the front door.
“Yes, Lulu,” You giggle, “You told me a thousand times.”
He pulls you into his embrace, wrapping his arms around you as you lean into him. The night was nothing crazy, just dinner at a nice restaurant, a few drinks, and now you are home early enough to have a decent rest before your busy weekend.
“You needed to hear it,” He hums, “You know how crazy you make me when you wear something tight like this.”
You smile at him, as his hands trail down your back to settle at your hips, and you look up at him with wide eyes as he digs his nails into your skin through the silk fabric. You do know that this dress would drive him wild, you wore it because you want to see his wild side.
“I want this off,” He complains, referring to your dress, “I want to see all of you.”
“Ah, tiān nà, Lulu,” You sigh, attempting to resist him, “Slow down, we just got home.”
Though this does not stop him leaning in to kiss you, leaving you breathless. As he pulls away, you fight the urge to chase his lips for another kiss, reminding yourself of your plan.
“I said…” He warns, his tone is stern and full of frustration, “Off.”
You stare him dead in the eyes, your expression mostly neutral, though your lip curls up in a smirk.
“Make me.” You dare him, raising a brow as you maintain defiance.
Luhan looks shocked for a moment before it clicks, and he bites his lip as he spits his next words back at you.
“Oh, don’t worry,” He chuckles, “I will.”

💙 Anon
thank you so much bb!!! and thank you for requesting, i do hope u like it!!!💞💞💞 (this is sUCH A CUTE SCENARIO AAA I LOVED WRITING IT)
1) “you look better in my clothes than i do.” 40) “are you blushing?”
genre: non-famous/slice of life au! tooth-rotting fluff <3 wordcount: 732 warnings: none
author’s note: pls correct me if i got lu’s cat’s name wrong lol
Chiming bells pulled you from dreamland and back to reality right as the clocked turned to nine o’clock in the morning. You stretched your arms up before opening your eyes slightly and turning to the bedside table. You grabbed your cellphone and halted the bells before sitting up and opening your eyes fully. You noticed a piece of paper stuck to the screen and peeled it off.
‘Good morning baby, if I’m not in bed as you’re reading this it’s because I went to get some groceries and cat food. Will be back soon, hope you slept well. -Lu ♡ ’
You smiled as you folded the note and put it onto the table, mentally reminding yourself to put it in your purse later. You glanced over at the empty side of the bed before getting out and walking to the bathroom.
After completing your morning routine, you made your way over to Luhan’s kitchen to make a small breakfast for the two of you for when he returns. You bent down to pet Xiao Huang as you took a half empty carton of eggs and a tomato out of the refrigerator and set it down onto the counter.
As you started scrambling the eggs, the kitchen became cooler as the air conditioner started to blow cooler air. Wrapping your arms around yourself, you spotted a worn out gray hoodie hanging over a chair.
‘I hope he doesn’t mind if I wear this for a bit,’ you thought to yourself as you slipped the hoodie over you. Instantly you felt warm and cozy, the homely scent of his cologne filling your nose. You rolled the sleeves up as you went to dice the tomato, remembering how Luhan mentioned that he liked tomatoes with his eggs.
The door to the apartment opened right as you finished cooking breakfast. You turned the stove off before rushing over to help your boyfriend with the bags.
“Good morning,” you pecked Luhan on the cheek as you took one of the grocery bags out of his hand. “I made tomatoes with eggs, I hope you don’t mind I used some of your eggs.”
“I don’t mind at all, it’s okay. I bought more eggs anyway,” Luhan set his other grocery bag down onto the table before bringing the giant bag of cat food over to Xiao Huang’s bowls. You walked back to the stove and began to divvy up the eggs into two plates as Luhan began to put some of the groceries away.
“Is that my hoodie?”
You accidentally dropped the utensils you were holding before turning to Luhan. Worry laced your voice as you began to apologize profusely, saying that you were simply borrowing it temporary until you were finished with making breakfast. He walked over to you and wrapped his arms around your waist, taking the time to fully take in the sight of you wearing his favorite hoodie.
“No, no, no, please don’t apologize. If I’m being honest... you look better in my clothes then I do.” You felt your cheeks flush as he smiled down at you, kissing you on the forehead. You covered your face with your arms as you wiggled out of his embrace.
“The eggs are gonna get cold!” you called out. He grinned as he sat at the table, eagerly awaiting his meal. You set his plate and a pair of chopsticks in front of him before sitting down next to him. You began eating slowly, covering part of your face with the sleeve of your, his, hoodie.
Luhan watched you as you ate and tried to avoid eye contact with him in fear of embarrassment. His heart fluttered at the sight of you: how amazing you looked wearing his hoodie while acting absolutely adorable in his eyes. “Are you blushing?” Luhan teased, moving your arm away from your face.
“I’m not blushing! You’re blushing! Shut up!” you giggled, punching Luhan playfully in the shoulder. He cried out in faux pain as he stood from his spot and lifted you in his arms. You squealed as he set you on top of the table and began peppering kisses all over your face.
“You should wear my clothes more often.” You raised an eyebrow before pressing a kiss to Luhan’s soft cheek.
“Maybe I’ll take you up on that offer.” He smiled at your words, capturing your lips with his.

Presence
Pairing: Luhan x OC
Word Count: 270
Warnings: None
Genre: Fluff, Angst(?), Drabble, IdolAU!
He would not make it back in time for Christmas. It was always the same. Always the same excuse repeatedly. He had to work hard, give his best for his fans, and you understood that. You always did. And that was the problem. You loved him. Too much. He was here for Christmas for the last two years. That’s what made you hope he would be here again, not only that, but he told you, no, he promised you he would be here.
Sighing, you got up, heading to freshen up before heading back to loneliness. Stripping down, scalding water hitting you, relaxing you. After the quick shower, you put on your Christmas sweater, heading down to bake something for yourself. Mixing the batter, you opted to mix more than for one portion, just in case.
The door opened as you pulled them out of the oven. Hands wrapped around your waist and you knew it was him. Turning around in his arms you hugged him. “You came” you breathed.
“Of course,” he said as he pulled away and placed a tiny kiss on your forehead. “I smell something~” he cooed looking at the oven. “Just cookies” you grinned, the smile not leaving your face since he came.
Settling down on the sofa, he started the movie. You cuddled to his side, just enjoying him being there with you. It was not always you would have time together, just the two of you. Halfway through the movie, Luhan’s head was resting against yours. But you didn’t mind. Just having him here, being in his presence was enough for you.

**
Luhan paced anxiously in the hallway. According to Yixing and the female doctor, you had a mild concussion. The fact that that was the only injury you’d sustained was a miracle. Yixing also suggested that you shouldn’t fly for a few more weeks while your brain healed. The female frowned when he suggested this, possibly meaning that the precaution was unnecessary, but Luhan would take it. This ordeal was over and he would keep his promise to you to send you home, if that’s what you still wanted. For now, though, he got to keep you a little while longer.
You didn’t know any of this yet, however, beyond the initial concussion. You were currently fast asleep in his bedroom, keeping his sheets warm as you tossed in between them. He thought it might be a little untoward to sit there and watch you, even though he’d asked you to do the same just a few days ago. So, instead, he’d gone a walk around the mansion to clear his head. Easier said than done.
The fight to keep you or let you go was still going on inside. He felt more alive with you, more a person rather than an entity to be feared. He missed being Lin. Not something he would have ever predicted when this whole thing started, but here he was, wishing he really was that low level gangster. Then he could get on that plane with you and never look back. But he couldn’t just abandon all he’d built to run away with you. Even with Kris and Tao behind to look after things, he was still needed. And he wasn’t sure he could flip the switch on who he was. He wasn’t… he wasn’t the good guy. He would never be, not completely. Which meant that he would never be good for you.
He still hadn’t been able to come to a conclusion when he came back to his room. Unable to take himself inside, he continued to walk back and forth right outside.
“Luhan?”
Luhan stopped midstep. The call of his name came faintly from the other side of the door. You were awake.
Taking a deep breath, he wrapped his fingers around the handle and pushed it open slowly.
In the darkness of the bedroom where the only light leaked in through the hallway, he could make out your faint figure sitting up on the bed. He watched for a few seconds as you rubbed your eyes. You were still only just waking up. It warmed his heart that your first conscious thought was of him.
He scoffed to himself. Look at him, being soft over such a simple thing. It took all his self control not to run and throw himself at you. He had to stay civilized. So, he closed the door and forced himself to walk slowly over to the bed. He sat down on the opposite side and gave you space. “Did you sleep well?”
You nodded. At least, he thought it was a nod.
“Is she… dead?” you asked hestitanly.
“Yes,” Luhan answered honestly. There was no point in lying to you. Eventually, you would see it in the news. The detective’s body was identified after the fire set by Kris and Tao was put out. They’d paint her as a hero, trying to stop a weapons ring and dying in the crossfire. “She won’t hurt you ever again.”
The sheets around you shifted. “It all started with her, didn’t it? The murder in the alley?”
“Yes,” Luhan confirmed again. “One of my men had infiltrated the unit she worked for and was on the verge of discovering that it was her behind the sabotage of our business. She sniffed him out and had one of her other detectives kill him. Then she offed him when she feared he might turn on her.” It was amazing the things that came to light once someone died. Luhan had plenty of informants who were able to dig up all the answers he could ever need pertaining to this particular series of events.
“Then it's all over.”
You didn’t sound as enthusiastic about that revelation as he would have expected. There was a sadness to your tone, a reluctance. So, you really did feel for him. then maybe, possibly…
“(y/n), I know I promised you that I’d-” Luhan swallowed thickly, unsure if he truly wanted to finish the thought.
But he didn’t need to. You knew exactly what was on his mind.
“I have to. I can’t stay.” An invisible hand reached out and took ahold of his fingers, squeezing tightly. “I told you. This isn’t my world. I was only ever supposed to be on vacation here. My life is back home. That’s where I belong.”
Luhan nodded, his heart almost audibly cracking, shattering in his ears. Before you, he wouldn’t have been sure that he even had a heart to break. “As soon as your concussion is healed, I’ll take you to the airport.”
Your own voice came out small, barely loud enough for him to hear you. “How long do we have?”
“Two weeks at the most,” he said.
“Well, then.” You smiled. His eyes had adjusted to the lack of light enough to see that. Besides, he was sure he could make out your smile if he’d lost his sight all together. “I guess we should make the most of it.”
He took that as his invitation, leaning forward and eliminating the air between you.
**
You didn’t want to get out of this car. Luahn was already out of the driver’s seat and waiting on the sidewalk with your suitcase in his hand. These past two weeks went too fast. Yesterday, after a quick examination, Yixing had declared you healthy enough to travel. You wished he hadn’t. Part of you really wanted him to find something else wrong, something else to keep you here. But there was none. And you needed to leave. You needed to be back in your homeland before you lost all the will to leave.
Tears pricked at your eyes, pooling on your bottom lid. Red rims outlined the area, unable to be hidden behind the useless eyeliner you’d put on this morning. You breathed in deeply and unbuckled the belt as you let the used air out slowly. Each step to get out of the car was taken at a snail pace. If Luhan noticed your reluctancy, he didn’t mention it. It was a perfect opening to try and convince you to stay, but he let the debate fall to the side unused.
He saw you all the way to the gate. The fact that he was able to get past the security checkpoint without a ticket didn’t surprise you for a second.
“You should get in line to board,” he said. His eyes didn’t meet yours. Standing in front of you was an odd mixture of Luhan and Lin. The clothes belonged to the latter, more casual than the suit and slacks of the crime boss. Better to blend in with the other travelers and well wishers. But the genuine Luhan was in complete control. The soul behind the mask.
Gripping your passport in your hand, you agreed. “I guess this is goodbye, then.” You didn’t dare hope that you would ever see him again. What your life would like after this, you didn’t know. But you knew it would never be “normal”. It would never be like it was. A part of you would always be missing, left here with him. “Take care of yourself, please?”
A sad smirk pulled up in one corner of his lip. “I’ve been doing that for a while. I think I have that handled.”
“Good.”
Over the PA, your group was called. First class, of course. With Luhan paying, you didn’t expect anything less.
You needed to go now. Hand taunt on the handle of your luggage, you turned and headed for the boarding gate.
No. You couldn’t go like this.
Leaving your suitcase right there, you turned back around and ran for Luhan. His eyes widened at your brash action, but his arms were open to catch you. Wrapping your own around his neck, you kissed him deeply, desperately. Like a nomad in the desert, you drank him in, taking in the overflow like a glutton because there would be no more after this. Luhan held you in close to him, just as deprived and heartbroken as you.
When you pulled away, those fateful three words broke through before you could stop them.
“I love you.”
A small laugh left Luhan’s lips. “Wǒ zhǐ shǔ yú nǐ.”
You furrowed your eyebrows, unfamiliar with the phrase. But Luhan gave you no indication of what those words meant in English. Instead, he simply pushed you towards the gate while stepping back. The official sign that he was letting you go.
You walked backwards as you were unable to take your eyes off of him until you nearly collided with your lonely luggage. It was the hardest thing you’d done since you’d arrived in this country, but you turned around and got in line to board. The front desk worker made no indication that they’d witnessed your dramatic goodbye, merely scanning your ticket, checking your passport and waiving you on through.
This was it. You were in your cushioned seat, staring out the window as the workers piled up the luggage and talked to each other over the headsets. With still time to go until take off, you pulled out your phone that you’d finally gotten back from the police station and brought up a translator app. Into the speaker, you repeated the phrase that Luhan had spoken.
I belong only to you.
An explanation underneath told you that traditional Chinese culture didn’t use the phrase “I love you” as it didn’t carry the same weight. Instead, they used phrases like this to convey their feelings. It symbolized commitment, an attachment that could never be severed.
Closing your eyes, you leaned your forehead against the cool glass of the window and allowed the tears to run down your cheeks.
**
Adjusting back to normal life hadn’t been easy. You never expected it to, but since no one knew what you’d gone through over your vacation, it was even more difficult. Sure, you could have opened up about your experience. You could have told your family or closest friends. But how could they understand? They’d noticed a change since you’d been back. The lack of enthusiasm in outings and the slightest bit of sadness in your eyes, even when you smiled. Most of them chalked it up to missing the city you’d visited. And they would be partially right.
It had been months since you returned. Within those days, you’d forced yourself to find a new normal. You spent more time alone. You were preferring it that way. It was okay, nothing to be too concerned about. As long as you didn’t lock yourself away in your apartment. So, you went on walks around the local park almost daily. It helped you be a part of the world without having to interact too much.
This particular evening you found that you didn’t want to go quite yet. Even with the sun disappearing from the sky, you kept wandering around. The mothers had taken their worn out children home for dinner. Joggers had called time on their workouts and couples were ending their casual dates. But you kept going down the sidewalk, eyes floating around without settling on anything in particular. The trees were starting to sprout their small flowers that would give off a pleasant smell that sang of spring. Portrait green grass that looked soft enough to roll in covered the ground, inviting you to lay within its comforting blades. You didn’t take it. Perhaps another time. A sigh floated from your lips and drifted into the air.
“I thought you might have learned to not go out by yourself after dark.”
You froze like a statue. It wasn’t real, that voice. It was simply your mind conjuring up all your hopes and making you hear things to try and make you happy. You were alone in the park and the owner of the voice was thousands of miles away.
But the tiniest spark of hope made you turn around, just to check.
The air was pulled from your lungs in a violent gasp.
It was a mirage, a hallucination. There was no possible way that he was standing there, ten or so feet away. How could it be real? He looked too normal. No gel in the hair, the button down undone, and a casual smile on his lips. You refused to blink. You didn’t want to risk the image fading away.
He took a step closer, waiting to see if you would run away or come closer. You did neither. So he took another. And another. He kept coming closer until he was right in front of you. No words were spoken. A hand moved from his side, reaching up to cup your cheek. The warmth was real, the touch was real. This was no illusion.
“You’re really here,” you whispered.
Luhan nodded. “I am.”
You shook your head, his hand staying in place as you did. “Why?”
“I told you,” he said. “I belong to you. I couldn’t stay away. Then I remembered that I only promised to let you go back home. I didn’t promise that I wouldn’t follow.”
“But what about-”
“They can handle it without me for a few weeks.”
You sighed. “So, you’re going back?”
“Eventually,” he nodded. “But I thought I could come see you every so often. Planes were invented for a reason, weren’t they? That is, if you’ll have me.”
You let out a sound that was some combination of a laugh and a sniff from the tears forming in your eyes. “Of course.”
Smiling broadly, Luhan placed his other hand on your hip and pulled you in closer to him. His lips repeated the promise to hold on to you. Forever. It wasn’t traditional, but it was a compromise you could live with. Having him part of the time was better than the alternative. So, you kissed him back.
This love wasn’t perfect, but it was yours and that was enough.

What the Future Holds
Part of The Untamed - EXO Wolf Universe
Genre: Supernatural, Wolf Au
Pairing: Luhan x Reader
A/N: The promised Bonus chapter. Just so you know, this takes roughly during chapters 13 & 14 of Midnight Hours. Enjoy!
**
There was no way you were going to be able to keep this a secret much longer. Perhaps because it was your own body and you knew the details of yourself, but you would swear that you were already beginning to get that small rounded bump near the lower part of your abdomen though you didn’t think you were far enough along.
Lying there in bed, face towards the ceiling while Luhan slept soundly beside you, completely unaware of the third person who occupied the room, you wondered what the future held for you now.
You were going to be a mom.
In your days with the organization, that had never been in your plans. Sure, you figured someday you might find someone to settle down with and maybe start a family. But it was always just a maybe, an afterthought. You had more pressing matters. Other objectives took precedent.
Even after meeting Luhan and seeing the happy little family that Kris, Evie, and Mei had created, you still didn’t get those kinds of visions. Adjusting to life here among what used to be the enemy was emotional enough. Thinking of anything beyond becoming comfortable with your new family, let alone starting one of your own, was too much.
Letting out a sigh, you sat up and swung your legs off the bed. It took you another minute or two before you were able to actually stand up. There was nothing wrong with you; nothing but the burden of when to tell Luhan.
By now, you were sure that he would be happy, ecstatic even at this unexpected news. How could he be anything but? You’d seen him with Mei. There were times he’d get that look in his eyes, the far off kind that made it obvious what was on his mind. You knew he was imagining a child of his own, one that was made from the two of you.
But eventually he would shake his head, tossing the image away. There were even times where he joked about being too young to take on that kind of responsibility, disregarding the fact that he was older than and Evie both.
On the other hand, though, he would certainly be upset once he learned that you’d known for a while and waited to tell him until after the danger had passed. You weren’t going to do anything stupid or irresponsible, but you were never the kind who could just sit back and do nothing. You weren’t sure what help you could possibly be – then again, no one truly knew what would be coming when it did.
Needing space to clear your head, you finally landed on your feet, stretching your arms and back as you shuffled over to the closet to get dressed. You snatched up your favorite bow sitting in the corner of the room before going back over to the bed.
Luhan was still peacefully snoring away, his blonde hair ruffled from his constant tossing and turning. In the space you’d previously occupied, Luhan’s arm was outstretched as if he were reaching for you even in his sleep. You couldn’t help but smile. A sigh escaped and you leaned over to gently press a kiss to his cheek.
“Mmm,” he groaned satisfactory. In a flash he had your wrist in his grip in an attempt to keep you there. “More.”
It wasn’t that hard to free yourself. “When I get back. Maybe.”
One eyelid slowly opened. “Where are you going?” he asked.
You held up your bow. “To get some practice in.”
“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” Luhan mumbled. He was already falling back asleep, weakening his argument.
“I know,” you said, “but we’ve already had this talk. You’re still not going to win.” For good measure, you leaned down again and kissed his lips this time. “I’ll be back in a few hours. Get some more sleep.”
He murmured out something along the lines of “okay” and flipped over. The poor thing had worked last night and it was too early for him to be fully awake.
As quietly as you could, you made your way through the basement, up the stairs, and out through the back kitchen door before bee lining for the trees.
It was still early morning, the sun barely shining in the hazy sky. Beams of light cut through the trees, giving the forest an almost fairytale-like quality. Ahead, though, clouds were growing and darkening. So a rain was coming. Looks like you wouldn’t be out here as long as you were hoping.
To get to your hidden practice range, it was at least a forty minute hike with twists and turns that anyone who followed you lost. The only way you remembered yourself were the small, insignificant notches you’d carved into the trees at interval heights. Luhan was the only one that knew to follow them, in case of emergencies. He tended to leave you alone – struggling against his instincts – when you came out here. Often times, you found yourself needing space.
Saying your world was flipped around when you joined the pack… it felt laughable, understated. Your parents always taught you to be prepared to deviate from the plan, to have other options open to you, and to accept that you can’t control every turn life takes. As a hunter, that was easy enough. Variables were always being thrown in. Wolves are chaotic by nature – just living in that house with twelve of them was proof enough. It wasn’t a bad kind of chaos. Not all being of mayhem and pandemonium were. They simply existed without real order. But you were used to that as an outsider. Now you were among them.
It was a lot to get used to – so different from your structured life before - but you thought you were doing an okay job at adapting. Sure, you still tended to cling to Luhan at times like a frightened child. And, okay, your only really good friends among the mates were your cousin Hae In, Lottie, and Nia. Family, the one who arrive around the same time you did, and the resident witch. Not too bad of a group, if anyone asked you. Who better to surround your baby with?
As the thought crossed your mind, your hand gently touched your stomach. Funny how before this, you were barely aware of that particular area of your body. Now that’s the only thing you seemed to think about. It was like an invisible protective bubble hovered around that area and whenever your mind drifted to your baby or if you accidentally ran into something, immediately you had to check that it was alright. Not that you could tell with just your palm, but it helped.
Finally arriving at your spot, you found the hole in the tree where you stored your practice arrows and stepped up to the mark. Months ago, Luhan had surprised you with a nice shooting target – cubed and stuffed with straw. The boys had been a bit nervous when he’d showed it off to you, but they were reassured it was simply to help your bored mind. You did not plan on shooting any of them with your arrows – again.
You still felt terrible about that. Jiyeon was only barely starting to treat you cordially and you suspected that was more at Evie’s insistence. Minseok, however… he was also nice to you. He never held a grudge about what you did. Part of you wondered if that was his plan all along because his kindness just made you feel worse about it.
Only an hour or so went by before you were tiring out from the constant motion of firing off the arrows. It must be the pregnancy or lack of consistency in your sessions because in your past you could do this all day without hardly any breaks. Heck, you had gone through a whole day of shooting practice with barely a lunch squeezed in there.
Finding a good stopping point, you gathered up the arrows and put them back in their little cubby in the base of the tree, covering the area with foliage and leaves. It made the boys feel better, you keeping the dangerous part of your favorite weapon out here and away from the house.
Slowly, you made your way back down to the house, already feeling better. Sore, but much better mentally. There was something about the continuing motion of docking the arrow, pulling it back, and letting it fly that was soothing to you.
To your surprise, Luhan was waiting for you when you broke through the trees. Usually he was inside when you returned, but today he was leaning up against the house, arms folded so tightly over his chest that you could see the tension from where you were. As soon as his eyes caught sight of you, he pushed off the siding and stormed towards you.
“Luhan, what’s- hey!”
He took you by the arm, not too hard to bruise, but certainly enough to pull you back into the woods. You roughly yanked your arm from his grasped, heated.
“What the hell!”
“When were you going to tell me!” His eyes shimmered bright amber, causing you to take a step back.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” It was probably the worst lie you’d ever told, but in the moment it was the best your brain could come up with.
Luhan held up your phone, the reminder to take your prenatal medicine blinking on the screen. In the other hand, your medication from the doctor.
Crap.
You had completely forgotten to bring your phone with you. And how did he find your pills?
Luhan’s next question came out quiet and defeated. “How long have you known?”
You whispered back in an equally soft voice. “A few weeks.”
“A few weeks?” Water began to pool in his eyes, breaking your heart. You knew he would be upset that you didn’t tell him earlier, but… well, you’d hoped that it wouldn’t be like this. Luhan shook his head in an effort to fight back the tears. “Were you ever going to tell me?”
“Of course!” you argued. “Of course I was going to tell you. I just wanted to wait until after everything had settled down. The last thing the pack needed was to be worrying about me.”
“Fine, but you still could have told me,” Luhan countered. “It’s my baby, too.”
You threw your hands in the air. “I didn’t want you locking me away in the basement like I can’t take care of myself!”
“I know you can take care of yourself.” Luhan’s eyes were settling back into their normal brown, which was a good sign. You hoped. “But what about the baby? They don’t get a choice of what happens around them. If this thing comes to some sort of fight, you don’t need to be in it. You can’t just think of yourself right now.”
You scoffed. “Oh, so you think I’m selfish? You think I don’t know that I can’t go charging in like I want to? I’m not a complete idiot, Luhan.”
“No, but you are reckless!”
That was it. Straw? Meet the camel’s back.
Snatching your pills and phone from Luhan, you shoved passed him back to the house.
“(y/n)! (y/n)!”
You ignored him. How dare he? How dare he question your ability to protect your baby, to think of it before yourself? Of course you would want to do your part in protecting the pack when the blood moon came along, but it wasn’t just you anymore. You understood that. So why did he think you would do anything different?
**
You were not going to cry. You were not going to cry.
Crap. You were going to cry. Stupid hormones.
It had been nearly a whole day since Luhan had confronted you about the pregnancy secret and you’d hardly spoken a word to him. You’d been fairly successful at avoiding him, even sleeping on the pull out couch to not be in the same room with him (that is, until halfway through the night, while you were still asleep, Luhan carried you back to bed). But when Kris called a full family meeting the next day, you were obligated to join. Luhan took his normal spot standing next to you, but you refused to look at him.
You were doing absolutely fine until Kris dropped the bomb that Nia was gone. Sehun looked like an absolute wreck as he stared out the kitchen window, watching the rain come down. You could tell he was hardly listening as Kris explained to the rest of you how he, Sehun, and Jinyoung had gone to search for her before the storm started last night. There had been a small bit of hope that she would come back due to the weather, but since she still hadn’t, a plan of action was needed.
Desperately searching for a distraction, you started pacing the floor, ideas and possible avenues popping into your brain.
“Sehun, are you listening?”
Sehun whirled around so he was now facing the rest of the kitchen. “What?”
Junmyeon sighed, letting the attitude slide given the circumstances. “I know you’re worried. We all are, but I need you-”
“Do you really think your worry is as great as mine?” Sehun growled. Silence filled the kitchen. Because everyone knew that, no matter how worried or concern you all were, it was like a mustard seed compared to the mountain of anguish Sehun was going through. Realizing that the pack knew just that, he pulled back. Letting his gaze fall to the hardwood floor, he murmured, “Sorry.”
“It’s understandable,” said the fairy witch, Soomi. Her voice was always soft and comforting and this time was no different despite the current situation. “And it’s scary, thinking that she’s out there, alone in this. But she’s a survivor. She’ll be okay.”
Sehun shook his head. “I can’t just leave her out there while I’m here safe from the storm.”
“There’s no way to find her,” Chanyeol whined. Lanie reached over and consoled Chanyeol with a slight squeeze of his hand.
“Would you leave Lanie out there by herself even if you couldn’t follow her scent?”
“Leave me out of this,” Lanie begged. She let go of Chanyeol’s hand and leaned forward, massaging her temples.
You huffed. All this talk of just leaving your friend out there… you could feel the hormones buzzing inside. “I agree with Sehun that we should go look for her, weather be damned.”
“You’re not going anywhere,” Luhan snarled at you. The only response you had was to roll your eyes and turn away from him.
“Is there any sort of shelter she might be able to find in the woods?” Lottie asked desperately.
“No,” Minseok answered with a shake of his head. “In these trees, there’s nothing but this house and the city.”
Suddenly, Sehun straightened up, the despair on his face gone and replaced with a look of realization. He was out the back door before anyone could even call out his name. For a moment, everyone just stared in shock as his rash decision. It only took a few blinks, however, before a majority of the pack was scramble to get through the door.
“Oh, no, you don’t!” Luhan stopped you before you could aid in the chase. The mates that had stayed behind were looking at the two of you with curious eyes so Luhan tugged you out of the kitchen and through the living room until you were standing on the front porch, the rain giving enough cover for no one to be able to overhear.
“What is it now,” Luhan?” you barked.
He looked at you with narrowed eyes. “You were about to do it again.”
“Do what?” you challenged.
“Be reckless.”
“Oh,” you faked sudden realization. “So, going after your pack member who took off into a storm and could get hurt is now considered reckless. Good to know.” You tried to head back inside, but Luhan stopped you with a gentle hand in yours.
No, no, no. That was how he always got you. With his soft touches, his skin against yours. Now that your body wasn’t going about its functions as normal, it was almost worse.
“I’m sorry about yesterday,” he said quietly. You didn’t say anything back. “I… shouldn’t have reacted like that. With everything going on… I’ll admit, I got scared.”
“And you think I’m not?” Seeing him before you like this, with his head bowed and breathing shallow, you did something that was a bit out of character for you. Taking your hand out of his, you stepped forward and wrapped your arms around his shoulders. “I worry every day,” you confessed. “I worry about what the blood moon means, I worry if I’m cut out to be a parent, I worry if this is even what you wanted-”
“Of course I want this,” he interrupted, pulling back so he could see your face. His hands were resting on your hips, his thumbs moving up in down in a way to try and calm you down. You usually didn’t get emotional like this, save for a very specific time or two.
“How the hell am I supposed to know that?” you asked. “We never talked about it before, the two of us. And you always joked about being too young to be a parent.”
Luhan shrugged. “I didn’t want to scare you off. You’d ran away before, remember?”
“That was a completely different scenario. I was trying to keep you safe.”
He quieted you with a kiss. “It doesn’t matter now. If you thought you were stuck with me before….”
There were a million things you could blame for this sudden outburst of emotion: hormones, Nia’s disappearance, bottling up too much. Or maybe it was a combination of all three. Whatever it was, it caused you to hide your face in Luhan’s shoulder as you cried. He patted your back, obviously holding back laughs at seeing you like this.
“You’re going to be great, you know that?”
“Shut. Up.” You didn’t want another reason to start bawling while you just getting your emotions in check.
“I kind of want a boy,” he went on. “I think that’d be fun. Also, how big do you think you’ll get? Evie got pretty big. Kris had to carry her up the stairs for breakfast in the morning-”
You shoved back, playfully hitting him in the shoulder. “Luhan, if you don’t stop going on about how big the baby is going to make me, I’m tacking you to the wall with my knives.”
“Baby?”
Oh… great.
Cringing, you turned to find the pack – minus Junmyeon and Sehun – staring up at the two of you on the porch. So much for the rain being a cover for the conversation. Their faces were almost funny enough to send you into a laughing fit. The mortifying fact that they now all knew about your “delicate condition” was able to trump that urge.
“Luhan?” Kris raised an eyebrow. Your wolf nodded in confirmation.
“As if this month couldn’t get even more dramatic,” Jongdae rolled his eyes.
“Leave them alone,” Kris ordered. “Everyone just… get inside. We’ll deal with that later.” The alpha came up the steps and said, “Junmyeon’s out walking with Sehun right now to get him to calm down. When he gets back, you should update him. But don’t tell Sehun until after we find the witch. He’s a bit sensitive right now.”
“Sure thing,” Luhan promised. After a somewhat awkward half smile sent your way and a muttered “congratulations”, the alpha headed inside, sighing and shaking his head. The rest of the pack came up the porch as well, giving their own words of congratulations.
Baekhyun, who was behind the majority of them, shouted, “Is no one else worried that the highly trained assassin is now going to have mood swings?”
His point mostly went ignored by the others, though you had to admit, it was a little valid. You didn’t have the most controlled temper at the best of times.
“You know, this definitely means that you’re staying here until all this business is over, right?” Luhan said.
You nodded. “I know.” It went against your old instincts, but you had to protect your baby. Those were your new instincts.
A sigh fell out before you could stop it.
Luhan reached out and cupped your cheek. “What’s wrong?”
“Oh,” you smiled at him, “I just thought that now we have to do something almost equally as dangerous as whatever’s waiting on the blood moon.”
H frowned. “What’s that?”
“Telling Hae In.”
“(Y/n)!”
You flinched. “Too late.”

“Well, at least we know where she is now.”
Kris was quick to give Tao a very deserved smack to the back of the head. The latter glared at the one who hit him, but didn’t fight back.
“We don’t know where she is,” Luhan said through teeth clenched so tight his jaw muscles were crying from the pain. But it was either that or completely destroy the room to let out his desperation and frustration.
“There was nothing else in the envelope?” Yixing asked, his own voice thick with worry. “Nothing that might say where the picture was taken?”
Tao turned the envelope upside down and shook it, but nothing else fell out.
“Why taunt you like this if they aren’t going to give a place for us to fall into their trap?” Kris wondered.
Yixing frowned. “You think it’s a trap?”
Kris nodded. “Positive. Why else take her and then send a picture like this? I doubt they know the exact nature of Luhan’s relationship with (y/n), but I guarantee that they know about her involvement with the murder and the investigation against Luhan. Especially since word of us taking her from the motel had started to spread.”
“So, what?” Luhan scoffed. He sntached the picture from Tao and glowered down at the glossy surface. Streaks of lights bounced off photo paper despite the darkness of the subject. Without even thinking, his fingernails ripped through the back of the picture and his handles crumbled the remaining scraps before throwing the ball across the room. “I couldn’t care less as to why they took her. We need to get her back. I promised her I would keep her safe and get her back home. I plan on keeping that promise if I have to die trying.”
“Since when did the genre of our lives go from a crime thriller to a love drama?” Tao uttered underneath his breath.
“Tragic love lives tend to be the norm in this business,” Yixing replied with a downcast face. The female doctor looked at him curiously, but said nothing.
Luhan swallowed. “I need this to be a different ending.”
Tao tossed down the envelope where it landed near the woman’s feet. “We can’t do anything if we don’t know where to start.”
Frowning, the woman bent down and picked up the envelope, holding it up to the light. Noticing the strange action, Yixing straightened up.
“What are you doing?”
“I thought I saw something earlier….” The woman ripped the sides of the envelope to expose the inside. Sure enough, right within the lining was an address, small and easily missed if one was looking directly into the enclosure.
“So, that’s where the trap is,” Luhan said thoughtfully.
“Do we go in guns blazing?” Tao asked a little too gleefully.
“Not exactly,” Luhan shot down. A new determination was in his eyes, a fire roared to life as if a can of lighter fluid had been poured over it. “But we are going. Soon.”
He was going to get you back. He was going to make sure that you made it home, even if it meant he had to take his last breath.
**
If your subconscious had been able to imagine the situation you would be in once you woke up, this… was not it.
No, it wasn’t a luxury hotel or even Luhan’s mansion, but at least you weren’t chained to a wall or tied to an unforgiving chair. Although your wrists did hurt and red indentions told you that you might have been restrained at one point, you were free to roam around now. The room you were in was tiny, like a broom closet, but it still held a bed and dresser with enough room to maneuver around.
Even as you slipped off the bed, you braced yourself for the inevitable outcome. You were in this room for a reason and you doubted Detective Zhuang wanted you anywhere. But if you didn’t try, you felt that you would be giving up. You didn’t fight to stay alive this entire time only to sit down a hundred feet from the finish line.
You couldn’t believe it. It turned. The doorknob turned. Not only did the knob turn, the door opened. Was this a trap? A tease?
You didn’t care. You’d take the risk of the rogue officer mocking you. The door opened up to an industrial-looking hallway. Maybe this room really was a closet at one point.
Stepping out with one foot, you went slowly, checking every direction for any sign of life that might force you back into the room. There was none so you kept going.
As you went farther down the hallway you could hear the faintest of voices. You were more than certain you were getting closer to the main area of the industrial building. The only questions left were why were you here and what would happen to you if you were caught.
The end of the hallway came. There was no exit in the opposite direction so these doors were your only option. Quiet as a mouse, you pushed one of the doors open and peeked your head through. Several burly looking men were roaming around, unpacking guns from wooden crates, going over what could have either been checklists or invoices, among other nefarious activities. Though her back was to you, it was easy enough to pick out Detective Zhuang as she spoke to one of the men.
Now that you’d pinpointed your kidnapper, you searched around the large open room for the exit that could lead to freedom. You nearly cheered out loud from relief. The exit was along the same wall the hallway entrance was and most of the way was blocked by oversized crates. Perhaps fate didn’t hate you so much after all.
While moving in a slow, cautious way in order to avoid drawing attention, you snuck out between the doors and headed for the exit, bent over nearly in half so you didn’t create a shadow that would show beyond the crates. You hurried towards the doors, already thinking of different scenarios that would take you back to Luhan.
Freedom was just within your reach. Only a couple more steps and-
“So glad you’re awake now.”
Damn it!
You didn’t consider any alternative. You ran for the door, hoping to make it out, but Detective Zhuang’s men were quicker. Two blocked your path while another practically body slammed you into the wall and then caged you within his arms. You kicked and squirmed to no avail as he carried you over to the woman who’d made your life hell. No courtesy was given to you. The man practically threw you down to the ground at Detective Zhuang’s feet. There was no holding back the whimper in your throat as your knees and palms scraped against the rough concrete floor.
“You shouldn’t have tried to run,” Detective Zhuang shrugged as you nursed your wounds.
“You didn’t have to kidnap me in the first place,” you retorted.
She shrugged. “You should have learned to mind your business.”
“Just let me go home like you promised,” you begged. “That’s all I want.”
That was a lie. It wasn’t anywhere near the only thing you wanted right now. You wanted to see Luhan one more time, to warn him about who was really behind all of this. And to say goodbye, if this really was the end.
Detective Zhuang sighed sympathetically. “I can't do that now. You know too much.”
“Too much?” You scoffed. “I hardly know anything. I don’t know why you’re doing this. Why you’re going against the very laws you swore to uphold.”
Bending down to meet you at your level, her eyes searched your own before drifting down the ground. “I used to believe in good. I used to believe in the law. Now all I believe in is the balance of life and death.”
You shook your head. “Why? What happened?” It was impossible to know why, but you wanted to understand. Hell, you almost needed to understand. Maybe if she gave you the reason, you could find a way to change her mind.
It was silent for a minute or two, only the sounds of your breathing reaching your ears. Finally, she looked up at you. “I grew up in the world that Luhan controls. Before he ever rose to power, there was my father. He was the most feared in the criminal world. He ruled the underground and no police force dared to touch him. Admittedly, while growing up, I hated him. I hated what he stood for and I vowed to be nothing like him. So I became the opposite of what he was. I became the best damn officer in the city. But he was still my father. I still loved him, whether I could admit it or not.
“Then a man named Luhan started taking over, occupying territory he had no right to. And he eliminated anyone who stood in his way.” Detective Zhuang licked her lips and gave a humorless smirk. “I think you can guess what happened next. My father was taken from me, so I’m going to keep taking from Luhan until the scales are once again equal. I’ve been ruining his business, but I need more. I need his life.”
“There is nothing equal in taking a life for another life,” you argued. “If he really is the reason your father died, then as a detective, you should have let the law do its job. You can’t take justice into your own hands.”
That was apparently the wrong thing to say. Grasping your chin and digging her fingernails into your skin, she hissed, “You think I didn’t consider that? There was no physical evidence connecting his death to Luhan. And no judge would be brave enough to convict him.”
“Killing him still isn’t the solution.” It was probably a huge mistake to continue insisting that she was wrong, but you couldn’t help yourself. She wanted to kill Luhan. And you didn’t even want to imagine a world where he wasn’t walking around with that big stupid smile on his face. “He has two others with him. Even if he were to die, they’d still keep going.”
Pushing herself back up, Detective Zhuang laughed once. “I don’t care about their business. They can do what they want. As soon as I have Luhan lying cold in the ground, I’m leaving the country, happy and content for avenging my father.”
You shook your head. “That won’t make you happy. Anyone with any sort of common sense knows that.”
Bang!
You flinched at the noise, thinking maybe she’d finally had enough and shot you. But no pain came. In fact, it wasn’t a gun at all that made the noise. It was the main doors being shoved open. The air was ripped from your lungs as you watched Luhan strut in, his normal air of confidence tenfold. Only part of you was relieved, however. You knew he was in danger and waltzing in here like he was invincible was a dumb move. But it was also very him.
“I honestly thought you would come sooner,” Detective Zhuang mocked. “Have difficulty finding the place?”
“Not really,” Luhan replied in the same cheeky tone. “Especially since you printed it on the inside of the envelope.”
Detective Zhuang shrugged. “I couldn’t make it too easy for you.” Reaching back behind her, she pulled out a pistol, clicking back the barrel to make sure a round was in the chamber before aiming the weapon at your head. “But now that you’re here, we can attend to business.”
Luhan threw his hands up, stopping in his tracks immediately. “I should have known it was you. (y/n) would trust you, especially since she can’t understand Chinese.”
This whole time, you’d been able to keep up with everything that was going on, but now you were lost. “What are you talking about?”
For the first time since he’d walked in, he met your eyes. “Remember that day in the car? Outside the precinct?” You nodded. “You were happy to recognize her voice, but what you didn’t know what she was saying. The other detectives were asking about who to find you, but she didn’t care. She told them to forget about you and to follow other leads. They had your statement, why would they need to find you again?”
“Why would I need to find her?” Detective Zhuang agreed. “I knew you had her. I knew where your mansion was located and that you would keep any threat to your precious empire close. If she got hurt along the way, then so be it.”
You felt like an idiot. Her words in the beginning, in that interview room… you fell for them hook, line, and sinker. “Did you plan for me to get taken?”
“I didn’t think Luhan would come get you himself, but I knew he’d try to get his hands on you one way or another. I couldn’t care less if you had proper protection. He’d keep you safe for the time being, until I had use for you. ”
“Because you’re so clever,” Luhan said dryly.
Rolling her eyes, Detective Zhuang said, “You might want to watch that mouth. I’m a little heavy fingered and I’d hate to prematurely pull the trigger. Then again, now that we’re face to face, neither of us really need her, do we?”
All jesting was gone from Luhan’s voice. “If you want me, you’ll let her go. Now.”
Detective Zhuang acted as if she were really thinking about it, even moving her gun from you to Luhan. “That was a bit demanding, Luhan. Why would you care if a stupid foreigner died or not?” A few seconds of silence went by and then she laughed. “Don’t tell me the great Deer fell for someone? You actually let yourself develop a weakness? Well, this changes everything.” She trained her gun on you once more. “I was just going to kill you slowly. But now… now I think I’ll kill her first and let you sit on that for a while, so you can feel what I felt when you killed my father.”
“No!” Luhan fell to his knees, panic striking in his eyes. “Stick with your original plan. Kill me. Torture me. But let her go. She doesn’t deserve this!”
More silence filled the room. All the men standing around flickered their eyes back and forth between the stand off.
“I’ve considered your offer,” she said, “but I think I’ll decline. So say goodbye- AH!”
The gun fell from Detective Zhuang’s grip. She clutched her hand to her chest and your eyes widened in horror as you saw red liquid run down her wrist. Luhan jumped back up to his feet and ran to you while the main doors swung open once more.
Kris and Tao charged into the room, guns in every hand that lit up with each bullet that left their chambers. Luhan tugged you out of the fire’s way, making sure to keep his body between you and the fight. Crouching behind a wall of crates, he turned your around and cradled your face as he searched for any signs of injury.
“I’m alright,” you insisted, but he didn’t stop looking.
“Are you sure? She’s had you for hours and-”
You stopped him with a quick kiss. Perhaps the wrong moment, but you were too happy to be near him again to care. “I’m fine. I promise.”
Closing his eyes, he leaned his forehead against yours. “I thought I’d lost you for good. I thought you’d ran away from me.”
“Technically, I did,” you confessed. “She said she was going to send me home. I had to take the chance. I guess I should have thought about it a little more.”
Luhan pulled back and shook his head before pulling you back into a hug. “I don’t blame you.”
“Okay!” Tao called out from the other side of the barrier. “The people are dead!”
Getting back to your feet, Luhan made sure to stay in front of you as the two of you emerged from safety. Bodies littered the ground, making you shrink into his back. You wanted to leave. Now.
“That was quick,” Luhan said, impressed.
“They weren’t the best marksmen,” Tao shrugged.
Kris frowned at his right shoulder. “But I liked this shirt.”
Tao laughed. “I told you to change before we came.”
“Speaking of marksmen….” Luhan looked up at the ceiling, eyes scanning the windows that lined the top of the warehouse. A vague shadow moved on the other side. One of the windows above the crates opened and a figure landed on top of them before climbing down the side.
“Yixing?” You gasped at the doctor who came over, a long range rifle strapped to his back.
He nodded at you, but there wasn’t any hint of a smile on his face. “Glad to see you’re safe.”
You, however, did give him a small one. “Thank you.”
“Come on,” Luhan urged. “Let's get out of here.”
“Don’t worry,” Kris said. “We’ll take care of this.”
Luhan gave him a short nod and led you out of the warehouse where you could breathe normally for the first time in too long.
