“God, finding someone these days is so difficult,” Yangyang huffed. "Everyone isn’t entertaining enough to talk to, or they expect lavish gifts after the first meeting,” Hendery backpacked off of what Yangyang said. Kun and Sicheng hummed in agreement. “It must be nice having someone!” Ten looked at Xiaojun, and the other boys' eyes followed as they all stared at him.

Xiaojun couldn’t help but laugh. “Maybe you shouldn’t complain. Just talk to someone,” he teased and stretched his arms out. "I feel bad for you, fellas. Having a partner is the best thing ever. Having someone to go home to and spoil, nothing could ever top it,” he sighed happily.

“Way to stay nonchalant about it,” Kun huffed as Xiaojun couldn’t help but laugh. Xiaojun checked the time and sighed. “Well, I’m gonna head home now,” He smiled, taking out his wallet and putting some cash on the table. “That should cover my part,” He stood up and said his goodbyes before taking off to your home that you shared.

“I’m home!” he announced as he walked through the doors and smiled when he saw you on the couch. He jumped to the spot next to you and smiled. “God, I love you,” he kissed you as you giggled at him. “You’re excited to see me,” you kissed him back as he smiled against your lips.

“I just love you, and I’m so lucky to have you,” he sighed happily as he pulled away. "Let’s go to bed; it’s late,” he stood up, putting his hand out for yours. You took it and smiled at him, walking to the bedroom with him as he laid you down and cuddled up next to you. “I love you, Xiaojun,” you smiled at him as he smiled back.

You were really helplessly in love with each other. His embrace was all that you wanted to come home to. When he went out with friends, you were always excited for him to come home and be excited to see you. Each kiss was always soft and loving. Xiaojun felt the same way. You made him a better person. He feels as if his heart beats for you.

When Xiaojun went out with friends, all he could do was brag about you and how much you meant to him, about the gifts that he was buying you, and where he was taking you for a special date. That’s why you worked. You always felt the same for each other, and if it ever felt like a change happened, you would talk to one another, never shutting the other out.

Xiaojun looked over at you, curled up on the couch. “Hey baby, I’m going to go out with the guys tonight.” He stood up and gave you a quick kiss as you smiled at him. “Have fun, love.” You smiled at him as he left, heading to Yangyang’s place.

He opened the door to see everyone else waiting for him. “Where are we going tonight?” Sicheng spoke up. There’s a new place that opened a few blocks away.” Ten looked over, studying faces to see what they thought of the idea. "Sure,” Xiaojun shrugged, not caring where they went. "I think being nearby is the best, and then we could walk home.” Kun looked at them; he always thought about the future for everyone.

They walked over as a group and opened the door, quickly finding a spot at the bar that gave them enough room to sit together. “Wow, Xiaojun, that girl down there is eyeing you,” Ten teased as he shook his head. “Don’t care,” Xiaojun shrugged and ordered himself a drink as they began talking about their day.

Even though Xiaojun preferred his time with you, he enjoyed his weekly hangout with his friends to talk about life. Xiaojun tried to listen to the guys, but he could only feel the stares of the woman from across the bar. Xiaojun watched as the bartender placed a drink in front of him. “I didn’t order this,” he looked at the bartender as she shrugged and pointed to the end of the bar. “She ordered it for you,” He looked her way.

He wouldn’t lie and say she wasn’t attractive, but he still didn’t want to accept the drink. “You can give it to someone else,” he looked back at the bartender as Hendery spoke up. I’ll take it,” he put his hand out as Xiaojun passed it down. “All yours,” he sighed and finished his drink.

He felt a tap on his shoulder and looked at the woman out of the corner of his eye. “I have a girlfriend,” he said. I just wanted to know why you gave your drink to someone else,” she playfully huffed as he turned to look at her. His heart started to skip the same beat as it did for you.

He swallowed harshly as he tried to look away. His brain kept telling him not to entertain any of this random, beautiful woman’s questions, but he couldn’t help it. “I have a girlfriend, and it seemed wrong of me to accept a drink from another woman.” He scratched the back of his neck.

Kun watched him from a distance, keeping his eye out for whatever actions she was trying to pull. He was so worried about the girl that he didn’t even notice the way Xiaojun looked lost in thought as he listened to her. Kun got up from his chair and walked over to pat Xiaojun on the back.

He looked up at the elder as Kun smiled down at him. “I think it’s getting late; we should go,” Kun raised an eyebrow at him, and Xiaojun nodded, realizing what he meant. “Can I get your number?” she asked him quickly, and Xiaojun shook his head. “No, it was nice to speak to you tonight, but I truthfully hope I don’t run into you again,” he walked out with Kun.

“Dude.” Kun stared at him as Xiaojun swallowed. “I kept it friendly, I promise,” He looked panicked as he spoke. “I say forget about it, don’t tell Y/N,” Yangyang spoke up as Kun seemed to agree. “Absolutely, keep this a secret until you die,” Sicheng spoke up. Xiaojun nodded, taking everyone’s advice. “Well, I’m going to go home now,”

They all said night to each other before going their ways. He opened the door carefully. He walked straight to the bedroom as he didn’t see you on the couch. He saw the lamp in the corner turned on, giving the room just enough light for him to see you curled up.

He couldn’t help but smile as he climbed into bed next to you. Placing a gentle kiss on your lips. His mind was focused on you now; he couldn’t even remember that’s girls name, so even though he felt his heartbeat skip to the same rythym as when he saw you, it didn’t matter. You were his, and he didn’t care about her.

He shut his eyes as he turned over in the bed, falling asleep to the sound of you breathing. He tried to stay asleep but couldn’t as he tried to get comfortable. His mind lost on what could’ve caused him to feel a certain way for that girl. She didn't matter to him, he just hated how he couldn't figure out why he felt himself react the way he did. He heard his phone buzz on the nightstand, lighting up the room. He reached over and picked up his phone.

His eyes widened, and he saw that the girl from the bar messaged him from his Instagram. His heart was beating out of his chest as he stared at the message. She was bold to even follow his account, let alone message him. His Instagram was basically a page dedicated to you. Everything he posted had you somewhere in the photo.

He couldn’t help himself though, sending a few messages here and there. He kept it strictly friendly and didn’t want much more to be taken as another way for her to interpret. He tried his best to hide it from you, not knowing what he could say. He felt wrong, but he didn’t think that he was saying anything wrong.

You held your breath with his actions lately. You knew something was up with him, the way he’s been hiding his phone, turning off notifications, and the one that pissed you off the most— his screen lighting up underneath the sheets. You didn’t want to confront him. You didn’t want to believe anything it was true. It wasn't like the simple arguments in the past.

You tried to bite your tongue and play it off as if you didn’t know. Maybe you were overthinking. Xiaojun slowly kept his distance, sensing something was off with you. He didn’t know how to confront it. It wasn’t like before, when you’d tell him, or you both would explain to one another. He was hiding something but didn’t want to admit to it.

The way you were acting made him think you were aware of what he was doing. You must’ve seen him texting her, or maybe you saw that she started following him. He really didn’t know how to tell you, but he hated the way he was being shut out. He loved you so much and didn’t want this to happen between the two of you.

He kept letting the guilt build up until he couldn’t take it. “Y/N?” He looked over at you as you hummed in response. He tossed his phone on the side of you. “I’m so sorry. I don’t know what came over me. I promise nothing happened other than those messages. I should’ve shut her down, but I didn’t. I kept everything friendly because I liked talking to her, but I didn’t mean anything more than what I said to her.” He rambled as you scrolled through, reading each message.

“This is all that you were hiding?” You raised an eyebrow as he nodded. You nodded to yourself and swallowed. “I’m sorry,” He stared at you; he couldn’t read your reaction, and it was freaking him out. “Listen, Xiaojun.” You started and put his phone down. “I’m only upset that you were hiding this. It made me think it was more than just friendly conversation. I don’t care if you decide to be friends with a woman; I only care that you are hiding this from me. That’s why I’ve been so upset.” You looked at him, almost defeated, as you spoke your mind.

“I just miss coming home to you, being loving, and spending time together. That’s why I had to come clean,” He looked at you, nervous you were about to tell him it was over. “I wouldn’t do that, Xiaojun; I am still upset. I just wish you told me before you started hiding it. That’s it.” You looked up at him, trying your best to sound reassuring. He nodded to himself as he sat next to you. “I love you, Xiaojun,” You looked at him as he smiled softly. “I love you too,”

Cold is killing me quicker than my finals are. Last week of classes, two weeks of exams up ahead. Artblock hitting, trying to write some stuff but yah I’m in need of rest. So have pictures of my cats. Big grampa kitty was literally sleeping on my feet and my sister took the pic.

Okay but in honour of Artistic Partisan being released on engstars, I'm going to be very self-indulgent and talk about how Hell Screen (source) coded it is. And yes I'm talking about Akutagawa Ryunosuke's short story about the (spoilers to come) painter obsessed with art and his beloved daughter who got sacrificed in all sorts of ways (then died) in order to inspire him to paint a scene of the Buddhist hell at the commission of his shady patron.

I mean, maybe it's just me but I think Artistic Partisan perfectly captures that line between obsessive creation and passionate artistry, flip flopping back and forth as the line "si vis artem, para bellum" (play on the latin "si vis parcem, para bellum" if you want art/peace, prepare for war) is chanted in the midst of it all. Like how could that not capture the artist's desire for eternity, longevity, beauty while also having the both threatening but invoking intense melody that gives it that edge of action and danger? It's so Hellscreen in the way that Hellscreen is a very bleak depiction of the battle that is art (with questionable beauty being produced but a definite masterpiece of expression regardless). Yes, the artist wants to live forever but, be warned, because the world of art is not one of peace. It is filled with blood and sacrifice and battles. Artistic Partisan is the warning song (but also a praise, almost, of art), Hellscreen is the story of the song ignored (but still proof of how war really does create art).

Just....man. They went hard on this one. If you want art, prepare for war indeed.
