You start with kisses in his palm between his piano breaks, lips pressed to his palm, red marks on his skin, and then you move to his fingertips, lashes fluttering as you stare up at him, and he looks down at you with a slight frown, no real harm behind it, and he swallows. You watch as his Adam's apple bobs in his throat, and you smile innocently, lips curled coyly as he sighs, yanking you up from the floor to slot his lips against yours, a sigh breaking past his lips as he kisses you properly, giving in to your teasing with a grumble. He'd rather not admit it, but he needs the break too.

Lu Chen / Alkaid

Alkaid never gives you a proper reaction at first. He always turns red, trying his best to smile as you pout at him, quietly begging him to do something with your eyes, and he never listens. Instead, you continue to tease him, his ears turning terrifyingly red, his bottom lip quivering as he looks around to make sure there is no one there. Then, he teases back, teeth nipping at your exposed skin, breath hot on your ear as his hands roam underneath your shirt, and you whimper, your own skin warm as his teasing doesn't relent. Don't worry. The two of you are alone, and according to the rumors, no one ever visits here anyway. He has you to himself, so you bet he's going to take advantage of it.

Luo Xia / Lars

Lars doesn't give in immediately. Instead, he watches as you palm at his chest, leaning back as he raises a brow to taunt you, and you huff as you continue, butterfly kisses pressed to his jaw, lashes brushing against his neck as you nuzzle into him. Then, when Lars gets bored, he kisses you, all control you thought you had gone with his movements, his hands on your waist and fingers digging into your hips as he kisses you, tongue hot against yours as your back arches to keep up with his kisses, your breathing growing ragged. When you start seeing stars, Lars pulls back with a teasing grin, cooing in your ear as you chase after his lips. Patience, love.

Si Lan / Clarence

You are sorely mistaken if you think Clarence is going to let you disrupt him during work hours. You ask to sit on his lap, shifting sneakily to try and rile him up, your fingers threading through his hair as he continues to work, lips pressing behind his ear as you mumble for him to do something. You can feel him pressed up against you, so you'd obviously expect him to do something— but he doesn't. Instead, he sits through your teasing and finishes his documents, at one point even moving you off his lap to clear his desk. And then finally, finally he cages you into his desk and kisses you. Oh, and don't worry, he was counting the number of times you had done things to him. He fully intends to pay you back.

Ye Xuan / Cael

Cael... you are insatiable, and Cael finds that he is just another unfortunate victim to you.  You shift against his hips, quiet whimper on your lips as he stays still, unbothered by your hips shifting, your fingers threading through his hair as you pull lightly, lips pressed to his neck as he sighs, hand squeezing your hip in warning as you ignore him and continue to nip at his skin. Then finally, he finishes his work, other hand flat on your stomach, leaning in to bite your ear, sighing as he curses you quietly in your ear, relenting. You minx.

okay my fellow Cdrama fanatics, I’m in need of some recs as someone who is still fairly new to the scene…

Historical Cdramas I’ve enjoyed

Story of Minglan ~ this show is my Roman Empire…like I don’t go more than a couple of days without thinking about it. Love how much depth there was to the characters and their relationships. I got so much satisfaction from watching Minglan run circles around every one else using her intelligence and wits. Every time Gu Tingye popped up in the background as her backup support I lost it! Talk about power couple.

Love Like the Galaxy ~ first historical Cdrama I have watched and apart from Minglan, I think it has ruined the rest for me. This drama has so many layers. Niao Niao is an intelligent, and opportunistic female lead. She is unabashedly herself, and the story is not afraid to depict her as unlikeable at first instance. I deeply appreciated the focus on female relationships and family. And Ling Buyi has ruined all other antiheroes for me lmao

Destined ~ I thought this one would be on par with Minglan at first, but it did lose its way in the latter half. I felt the female lead was relegated to the background, which was frustrating as they built her up to be this shrewd businesswoman and then we never get to see her in action. I did appreciate how wholesome and untoxic Jiu Si was as a romantic lead. I thought her relationship with the SML could have been drawn out more, however.

Romance of Tiger and Rose ~ I don’t think this drama is anywhere on par with the above three, but I still enjoyed it. Definitely a fun and unserious romp. Zhou Lu Si is just so likeable in all her roles.

Xianxia I’ve enjoyed:

Love and Redemption ~ I literally fell down a hole with this drama. I could not stop watching. Even though the female leads starts with that token immaturity Cdramas are known for, it’s explained in-world and she goes through a noticeable growth/stepping into adulthood arc. I also LOVED how powerful she was and how often she got to use her powers. Also the romance? Sifeng?!!? Yeah I was a mess. However, one thing that irritated me was the lack of agency Xuan Ji had toward the end of the show.

Eternal Love ~ it’s a classic for a reason. I loved Bai Qian’s resolve, steadfastness, and maturity. Her relationship with Ye Hau blossomed naturally, and they had different obstacles to face as a couple as opposed to what I have seen so far.

Love Between Fairy and Devil ~ speaks for itself, and I love enemies to lovers.

Extra: points if the female lead is powerful, or is on a journey to realising her power. Whether that’s through her intelligence, empathy, or in the case of xianxia, actual mystical power. Bonus points if she’s a character like Xuan Ji who can go supernova and destroy everyone lol

Historical dramas I have not enjoyed:

The Sword and the Brocade ~ I didn’t even finish this one. My overall impression was, having already finished Minglan prior, eating cardboard after having been to a 5 star Michelin restaurant. Everything was so bland and dull, even down to the cinematography.

Princess Silver ~ I dragged myself to the finish line with this one. The plot just became so utterly ludicrous and relied on the audience being invested in the main leads without actually letting them spend screen time together. I also hated that we had glimpses of the female leads power but that she never got to fully realise this. Just overly contrived and trite.

Xianxia I did not enjoy

Ashes of Love ~ this was the first xianxia I ever watched some years back. Given I was new to the genre, I think I found some of the characteristic features a bit jarring and I stopped watching Cdramas as a result. If I watched it again I may be able to make it through. Ultimately, I just could not stomach how naive the main female character. I understand this is typical, but it was another level of nauseating that I have not found an equal to since.

Summary:

ep29 (1/2): ah, light/dark metaphors. you've heard of them

this is a sweet scene. lwj mucst have knowsn he was an animal lover but I don't think he had the chance to discover he was also a child lover

it's really interesting to me when wwx engages with traditional concepts like this and filial respect...obviously he still lives within that society and culture even if he's a rebel, and even when the enforcement of those ideals has hurt him personally

god this is so cute. I saw some bts with them and it was just precious

wwx's attitude towards lwj is kind of hard to pin down here bc he can tell lwj is lying but when he suggests lwj is there for him, he says it like a joke. he's probably still doing his classic 'I hope this is true but I don't quite believe it and I'm going to hide behind humor in case it's not real and therefore I won't be hurt/embarassed'

Even relying on a slight grant [of talent], it would be easy to establish merit. Liu Yu rose vigorously from humble origins, and did not originally even have a small amount of land. He launched an expedition to destroy Huan Xuan and reinstate the Jin, in the north captured Murong Chao [6], and in the south annihilated Lu Xun [7]. Towards him, nobody went forwards, if not for his outstanding talent, how could it be possible as such!"

嗣曰：「裕才何如慕容垂？」對曰：「勝之。垂藉父兄之資，修復舊業，國人歸之，若夜蟲之就火，少加倚仗，易以立功。劉裕奮起寒微，不階尺土，討滅桓玄，興復晉室，北禽慕容超，南梟盧循，所向無前，非其才之過人，安能如是乎！」

[Tuoba] Si said:

"Liu Yu then enters, and cannot advance or retreat, if I were to use elite cavalry to unexpectedly strike Pengcheng and Shoucun, what would he choose?"

[Cui Hao] responded:

"Now, the west has Qugai [8], and the north has Rouran, lying in wait for a crack in our country. Your Majesty cannot personally lead the six multitudes, although we have elite soldiers, we do not yet have wise and capable generals. Zhangsun [9] Song excels in ruling the country, but falls short in doing battle and is not a match for Liu Yu. I do not see benefit, it is not as good as resting and waiting for changes.

When Liu Yu defeats Qin, he will return and certainly usurp his sovereign. In Guanzhong, Hua (Han) and Rong (non-Han) mix together, and the customs are strong and fierce. Liu Yu desires to grasp the thorns, propagating and carrying out civilised customs inside, in Qin, this will be no different than taking off clothing to smother a fire or trying to catch a tiger with a net. Although he has left soldiers to defend this region, they will not be in harmony with the feelings of the people, or face and manage the differences in the population. They will amount to resources for invaders and foes, and that is all.

I hope that Your Majesty will hold back troops and let the people rest so as to observe changes, the land of Qin will in the end be in the possession of our country, so ride and observe."

Si laughed and said:

"Sir, you have assessed it with prudence and understanding."

嗣曰：「裕旣入關，不能進退，我以精騎直擣彭城、壽春，裕將若之何？」對曰：「今西有屈丐，北有柔然，窺伺國隙。陛下旣不可親御六師，雖有精兵，未睹良將。長孫嵩長於治國，短於用兵，非劉裕敵也。興兵遠攻，未見其利；不如且安靜以待之。裕克秦而歸，必篡其主。關中華、戎雜錯，風俗勁悍；裕欲以荊、揚之化施之函、秦，此無異解衣包火，張羅捕虎；雖留兵守之，人情未洽，趨尚不同，適足爲寇敵之資耳。願陛下按兵息民以觀其變，秦地終爲國家之有，可坐而守也。」嗣笑曰：「卿料之審矣。」

[Cui] Hao said: "I have already in private commented on generals, ministers and statesmen of the recent period. It seems as if Wang Meng [10] in running a country is Fu Jian [11]'s Guan Zhong [12]; Murong Ke [13] in assisting a young ruler is Murong Wei [14]'s Huo Guang [15], and Liu Yu in pacifying great turmoil is Sima Dezong [16]'s Cao Cao [17]."

浩曰：「臣嘗私論近世將相之臣：若王猛之治國，苻堅之管仲也；慕容恪之輔幼主，慕容暐之霍光也；劉裕之平禍亂，司馬德宗之曹操也。」

[Tuoba] Si said:

"What about Qugai?"

[Cui] Hao said:

"When Qugai's state was destroyed and his family brought to ruin [18], he became an orphaned person. He depended on the nourishment of the Yao clan, accepting their grants and wealth. He did not consider thanking this kindness and repaying it with righteousness, yet acted when the opportunity arose to seek gain [for himself] [19] and stole a region, arousing the hatred of his nearest neighbours. Emerging as a person with little virtue, although he can release his violence for a period of time, in the end he should be devoured by others, and that is all."

嗣曰：「屈丐何如？」浩曰：「屈丐國破家覆，孤孑一身，寄食姚氏，受其封殖。不思醻恩報義，而乘時徼利，盜有一方，結怨四鄰；撅豎小人，雖能���暴一時，終當爲人所吞食耳。」

[Tuoba] Si was very pleased, and they spoke until midnight. He bestowed [Cui] Hao with ten vessels of light blue imperial [20] wine, and a liang of essence of water [21] salt. He said:

"I taste your words like this salt and wine, therefore I desire to share this with you to offer their good taste [back to you]."

Yet he still ordered Zhangsun Song and Shusun [22] Jian to each be appointed elite soldiers to wait on [Liu] Yu passing west, crossing the [Yellow] River at Chenggao to encroach south upon Pengcheng and Pei commanderies. If [Liu Yu] did not in time pass [west], then they would lead the troops accordingly [23].

i played avatar kyoshi like a year or so ago and am def excited to bring her back

our at least six feet tall queen

for those who don't know she was the avatar two avatars before aang. kyoshi's dad was an earth bender and her mom was an air nomad

she wasn't immediately recognized as the avatar. though she took the test it included picking toys. kyoshi was raised as an orphan on the street, and really didn't trust the test and wound up running away

as a result her friend yun was declared avatar

slight spoilers: when the truth was realized avatar kyoshi pulled a whole mountain out of the ocean her friend yun was sacrificed and her mentor was killed by yun's earth bending instructor

a bunch more happens in the book including kyoshi joining a crime gang and body slamming her way through a wall, but it ends in kyoshi heading to the air temples to officially declare herself as avatar finally

so that's up to where she remembers

personality wise kyoshi is admittedly pretty awkward. she's empathetic and considerate, but has a hard time reading people and handling tense situations. even though kyoshi is known as a more aggressive avatar it's mostly because she just can't handle tough situations through personality! it never works for her so she brute forces her way through things!

she's got a strong sense of justice and is very level-headed and will do what needs to be done even if she's not happy about it.

they're also not super forthcoming and friendly and loving unless it's with people kyoshi is close with. they don't want people to read kindness as weakness, so she's careful with how much she shows it

stupidly powerful, though kyoshi struggles in more light delicate bending, she can split the earth in half and raise mountains so

if they're convinced they're in the right kyoshi will use bending to get her way

might know how to be immortal it's not really confirmed or denied but she does sort of know how to use earthbending to mend her bones and body and does canonically go on to live until 230 so take that as you will

she's difficult but means well

also a gym/sparring buddy in general though you have to be ready to be knocked around and also constantly remind her to actually show up. as much as they know it's important kyoshi can get a little lazy with their training

perhaps a roommate just understand kyoshi is a neat freak. that or any neighbors

some casual dates. maybe potentially a long term sip though that would take more plotting. kyoshi is canonically bisexual

someone she butts heads with. kyoshi is stubborn, so this doesn't even have to be about anything big or could be someone more in a position of power than her because kyoshi straight up does not give a shit about people's positions of authority.

give her some criminals to hang out with. they spent the whole first book with a gang it would be fun for kyoshi to do it some more. she does consider justice important, but her moral lines are more like hurting innocent people not the actual law.

any sorts of friendships. kyoshi is actually kidna soft and easy to bully if she actually likes you, you just have to get to that point first.

I unfortunately lost count around here, but I am aware he is running out of dramas.

At this point I better step up my fanfiction game and start inventing stuff myself, maybe that's the thing that will make him like reading.

Just a note: my partner is Italian, he barely speaks English other than Italian, but he can watch something in any language and still understand what is going on and even the names. It is beyond me why he is not a language genius.

"Ayn!" "So can I?" You don't give him an answer, opting to hide your face until you're sure the flush is gone.

"Alkaid." You brush your fingers over his as the two of you sit in the park. "Yes?" "Would you rather kiss me for ten dollars or the hottest girl in the world for a thousand?" You tilt your head at him, curious. Alkaid doesn't think, he just answers. "You." Alkaid smiles gently and tilts his head, brushing his fingers over the back of your hand as he hums. Something about his eyes tells you there's no room for arguement.

Your fingers scrunch the fabric of his shirt, and he pulls away, catching his breath as he stares into your eyes. "Okay, I kissed you, so where's my thousand dollars?" He raises a brow in amusement. "You don't lack that thousand!" You gasp in fake offense. "Yeah, but that can be your pocket money." He hums, resting his chin on your head. "But lucky for you, you're the hottest girl ever to me." You push him away in embarrassment, heart racing in your chest. He's too good at this.

"Clarence," You sort through the files in the student council room, breaking the silence between the two of you. In all of these, the named characters are the main ship. All of these are canon m/m in the source material, and all have happy endings in the source material (but not always in the adaptations!) Most are also available in English as manhua. Some have official English translations of the books, as well.

Mo Dao Zu Shi/The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation/The Untamed: universally beloathed raiser of the dead Wei Wuxian dies to general acclaim but utmost distress of his approx. three friends. About 15 years later he is resurrected the body of a twink everyone hated for being gay. When one of those three friends, Lan Wangji, finds him in this new body, Wei Wuxian decides his best bet to try to avoid detection is to play gay chicken. This does not work as planned. (Note: much angstier than I'm making it sound. Trigger warnings for mcd, graphic violence and gore, and others that don't apply to the animated version. The Untamed is the live-action adaptation.)

Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: "Proud Immortal Demon Way" fandom anti Shen Yuan dies and is transmigrated into the PIDW world, a harem webnovel which he detested (but read all of and writes massive hate-filled comments about)...and specifically he is in the body of the main villain of the early part of the story. Determined to survive, but constrained by The System that docks him points if he acts OOC - and he dies again if he hits zero points - Shen Yuan tries to curry favor with the protagonist Luo Binghe and other characters who might be able to protect him so he doesn't befall the "original flavor's" fate. (Trigger warnings for violence, more for the book.)

Thousand Autumns: a nigh-saintly daoist Shen Qiao loses a fight so badly that he's nearly killed and left blind and with scant cultivation abilities. Worse, he has amnesia! This provides the perfect opening for Yan Wushi, leader of an evil cultivation clan, to try to turn Shen Qiao from the path of righteousness to that of darkness and thereby prove his personal belief that no one is actually good and that wickedness is the true nature of all humans. However, Shen Qiao proves much less biddable than he expects. (Iirc the only tw applicable to the available season is harm to children and starvation, and maybe implied sexual violence.)

Tianbao Fuyao Lu/Legend of Exorcism: young half-demon Kong Hongjun is happy living with his adopted demon dads, until he receives a summons to serve in the Exorcism Department to fight demons in the capital. Thus, he sets out into the mortal world accompanied by a carp demon and goes to join the Department. However, mortals consider all demons to be evil (if they believe they exist at all!) and Li Jinglong - newly appointed young leader of the Department - is a mortal...and the capital is being over run by demons aiming to take over the Empire! (Trigger warnings...not many? That I can think of? I've only seen s1 tho, there are 2 seasons, and I haven't read the book for this one. Note that it's set in the same verse as another series that has 1 season, Dinghai Fusheng Records. I've read the book for that but haven't found a good streaming source for the show so haven't watched it yet. Neither is needed to understand the other, both function as stand alone and take place hundreds of years apart).

Bonus 1: Lie Huo Jiao Chou/Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire. I'm watching this currently! I haven't read the book yet so I don't know the overall context/premise but what I know so far is: young fire...creature?... Xuan Ji gets duped into running the Aftermath Response Team for the government organization that deals with supernatural incidents. Though he's been told it's not a very active position, he's called to duty almost immediately to deal with what appears to be a minor encounter between some hikers and a sentient tree...but turns out to have been the partial summoning of a demon Sheng Lingyuan. But who IS Sheng Lingyuan, and what will he do when his summoning is complete? (Tw it's kinda dark overall - lots of dead random people - but nothing specific in the half-dozen episodes I've watched so far.)

Bonus 2: Can Ci Pin/The Defective. I haven't watched or read it yet but now that I have Crunchyroll it's up next. All I know is that it's science fiction and the main ship is Lu Bixing x ...shit, uh, Lin something? Lin Jinsheng? Something like that. I know the ship name is Lulin. 🤣 and the one surnamed Lin has a twin sister.

Bonus 3: Dinghai Fusheng Records: I haven't found the donghua streaming yet but I've read the book and comic and I know s1 exists. Assuming it follows the book, the premise is that the last exorcist in the world, bearer of the Heart Lamp Chen Xing leaves the mountain where his adopted father (now deceased) raised him and goes into the world to seek his true protector, the person who will stand by him and fight to make sure that evil doesn't win while Chen Xing tries to bring magic back into the world so there can be exorcists again. And he finds him! Except Xiang Shu isn't the shining perfect warrior he expects...he's in jail, nearly starved to death, in a city about to fall in a siege...oh, and he hates Chen Xing. (Trigger warnings for the early parts...mostly violence? Depending how far it gets, death of a child.)

Bonus 4: Tian Ya Ke, adapted to live action as Word of Honor: not available as a donghua. Word of Honor is a loose live-action adaptation of Tian Ya Ke/Faraway Wanderers. Zhou Zishu has led the Window of Heaven, a spy/assassination organization, for the emperor for years, but he's lost everyone he cares about and he wants out so he impales himself with nails that will kill him within three years and forces the Emperor to let him leave. Wandering as a drunk hobo afterwards, he catches the eye of Wen Kexing, a mysterious man who has phenomenal but unconventional martial arts in a style even Zhou Zishu can't identify for sure. He's probably up to no good, but that is so NOT Zhou Zishu's problem. But, despite his determination not to get involved, Zhou Zishu ends up netted into the mess, saddled with an orphan he has to escort to safety, and persistently followed by the stubborn, too-slick-for-anyone's-good Wen Kexing. All he wanted was to drink himself to death in a quiet retirement, damn it! (Tw: mcd, graphic violence.)

Bonus 5: Zhenhun/Guardian: another with a live-action only. Zhao Yunlan leads the Special Investigations Department, the government office tasked with dealing with the incursion of human-like creatures with superpowers (they're ghosts in the book. But censorship). During his depts. latest case, investigating a murder on a college campus, he comes across Professor Shen Wei, who seems over-interested and also...oddly familiar? And if that was all, Zhao Yunlan wouldn't pay much mind, but then his next case ends up involving Shen Wei...and his next...and his suspicions grow. Who IS Shen Wei, and why do supernatural things keep happening around him? (TW for the show is mcd, graphic violence, probably others I'm not remembering.)

Bonus 6: Tian Guan Ci Fu/Heaven Official's Blessing: I know the whole point is that you just watched it, but on the off chance this post spreads I figure a synopsis might help people. Pathetic fallen god Xie Lian manages, through his remarkable cultivation, to ascend to godhood for the third time, but in so doing he accidentally destroys two heavenly palaces. Broke but needing to repay the money for what he damaged, he accepts a mission from the Heavenly Emperor to investigate a murderous ghost who targets brides. While doing so, he meets a strange glowing butterfly and a man in red who seems to control it, and many more of them. The other gods tell him this is Hua Cheng, one of the four evilest ghosts in the world. But is Hua Cheng really a force of devastation in the world? And why does Xie Lian think those glowing butterflies are...actually kind of cute? (Tw: nothing major for s1, minor character death I guess? Definitely more for the books.)
