Drama Gossip: Douluo Continent (斗罗大陆)
Source: Google Images
Having lost his mother at a very young age, Tang San grew up relying on his father just as much as his father relied upon him. Meticulous and mature for his age, with extraordinary talent and wit, he was sent to Nuoding Academy at the age of sixteen to begin pursuing his dream of becoming a great soul master. There, under the tutelage of Yu Xiao Gang, he befriends an orphan by the name of Xiao Wu, and together they begin the long and difficult journey of cultivation. As time passes, the two friends draw ever closer, eventually swearing to look out for each other as siblings for life.
As their power and connection grow, Yu Xiao Gang realizes they need more guidance than he can provide. Sending the pair to the Shrek Academy, Tang San and Xiao Wu join five other prodigies from various academies in their journey of cultivation. Strong in their power, the seven students become known throughout the land as the “Shrek Seven Devils”. With their fame ever-growing, the talents of the Seven are eventually noticed by a few very prominent nobles who invite them to continue their cultivation at the esteemed Tian Dou Royal Academy.
Not long after accepting the invitation, the Seven Devils find themselves caught up in an imperial struggle for power between the first and fourth princes. At the same time, Tang San uncovers a long-hidden secret about his mother’s death. Suddenly facing battles on many fronts, Tang San finds himself forced to fight, not only to protect those he loves but to bring honor to his sect, save his country, and complete his quest to become the greatest soul master of all time.

It's Just So Good, Ya'know?
In spite of being a Xiao Zhan fan, I don't love a lot of his dramas. Douluo Continent though, that is one of the few I truly enjoy. This is a rewatch and the parts that irritated me, I still don't like but the parts that I like, I still enjoy.
The biggest problem with this drama is the pacing. This is me being nice but oh boy, the pacing is all over the place with Douluo Continent. Also, I am just not a big fan of the romance in this show. Don't get me wrong, I love Zhu Zhu Qing and Dai Mu Bai's relationship, I had hoped to get more from them. The other two couples among the Seven Devils are quite cute but sometimes really redundant. Especially the many scenes of Xiao Wu and Tang San. I get it, but I did not watch this show for their romance, it's average at best.
That being said, lets talk about the show itself. Fantastical wuxia dramas without long melodramatic or constant betrayal scenes are my favourite. The storyline, the world, the characters, the action, Douluo Continent really is entertaining to watch. A downside? For a show focusing on people's powers and abilities to fight, there is a severe lack of action scenes. Sometimes, I just want the fight scene to drag on or show me more action rather than slow motion scenes of anyone being attacked and falling backwards.
Every time I watch Douluo Continent, I get the urge to watch the animation as well. Unfortunately, the animation is not it for me. So until the second instalment comes out, I really don't think I will consume any content of Douluo Continent except for this drama. A pity, really.
Rating: ★★★★☆

Mr Speaker, it is an indescribable feeling to stand up and address this House. As a son of Samoan immigrants who made the mighty Ōtara 274—Southside hard—their home, I am well aware of the giants whose shoulders I stand on and the masters whose feet I learnt at. The courage, foresight, entrepreneurial spirit, and hope of our ancestors who journeyed thousands of years ago through the vast waters of Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa brings me here today.
My parents arrived in New Zealand in the early 1960s, told that this was the land of milk and honey. Dad started off as a taxi driver with South Auckland Taxis, and mum on the factory floor at New Zealand Forest Products in Penrose. We lived in a four-bedroom State house on Preston Road in Ōtara, and I attended local schools: East Tāmaki Primary, Ferguson Intermediate, and the great Tangaroa College. We're forever grateful for the State house that was our home for around 20 years, and the quality public education we received from our local State schools.
I did try my hand for a short period at a decile 10 school outside of Ōtara, but that experiment lasted only two weeks. It was during the time in the late 1980s, when families from poorer areas were being discouraged from going to local schools because they weren't considered up to scratch. I'm glad we changed course and decided to high school it in Ōtara, where the motto of our school was "Waiho i te tokā tu Moana"—"Steadfast like a rock in the sea".
Later, at university, I went on to write my Master's dissertation on brown flight, critiquing the Picot reforms that have wreaked havoc on our public schooling system. That period was also a challenging time for my family because we were being told by our teachers to stop speaking Samoan at home and only to speak English. My parents didn't want us to fail at school, so we were allowed to speak English at home and over time we stopped speaking Samoan altogether. In the end, I lost my language. I struggled, I was embarrassed, and I felt incomplete. Even speaking to you in Samoan this evening gives me major tremors.
There's a saying in Samoan: "E le tu fa'amauga se tagata"—no one stands alone, no one succeeds alone—and, for me, no one suffers alone. Over the past years, with the support of my family and friends, I've taken to trying to converse again in Samoan, reading more texts in Samoan, praying in Samoan, and sending our youngest to a local Samoan early childhood centre. Our beautiful language, Gagana Samoa, has returned to our home and is helping to overcome the inadequacy that had taken root in my soul.
As I speak this evening, I'm mindful of the many young people who are navigating these at times treacherous and unsettled waters in life, filled with so much potential, energy, and hope, yet too often misunderstood. In my time as a youth worker in South Auckland, I've spoken with hundreds of young people with massive dreams for the future. We need youth workers, we need social workers, and we need mentors to walk alongside our young people, and, yes, we want our youth to be responsible and caring and considerate. So it's our job in this House to resource the people and organisations who will model the behaviour to them that we expect, but who also won't give up on them and won't come with a saviour mentality.
Many of our societal challenges are driven by poverty. We can achieve greater social cohesion and lift our sense of belonging by addressing poverty. I've been honoured to run youth mentoring programmes for nearly 25 years—that's about how old I am—and to this day I mentor young people. When we undertook and published research on youth gangs some years ago, the youth we spoke to had the solutions and just needed the means to make it happen. Too many of our young people are filling our prisons, and it is wasted human potential. Give them the tools, the resources, and the means to make a meaningful contribution to the world, and they will. I was at a conference recently about the threats to democracy and an attendee spoke about their work in developing nations and used the familiar retort, "You can't eat democracy." And I couldn't agree more. This House, this centre of democracy, needs to do more to engage our people, all of our people, so that they can see this House is not just relevant but an essential part of their lives.
The greatest challenge facing our generation is climate change. The Pacific Islands nations are among the most vulnerable to climate change in the world. The world's continued reliance on fossil fuels, loss of coral reefs, rising sea levels, and increasing severe weather patterns means that our extended whānau in the Pacific are in immediate danger. We, as a collective, must do all we can to do as we say out south "flip the script". Truth is, those who've done the least to create this predicament are being the hardest hit. Our challenges, whether ecological, geopolitical, or cultural, are diverse, but we're bonded by the inextricable ties we have to our lands and our oceans. We've inherited philosophies, knowledge systems, and profound ecological wisdom that holds the answers and drives our collective resilience—from West Papua to Hawai'i. Our fight for a climate resilient, nuclear-free and independent Pacific remains as strong as ever. We are not drowning; we are fighting.
I haven't come to Parliament to learn—learning happens as a matter of course through reflection. I've come to this House to help. Helping is a deliberate act. I'm here to help this Government govern for all of New Zealand, and I'm here to open the door, enabling our communities to connect better with this House. During the election campaign, I spoke to people frustrated about their lot in life, scared for their and their children's futures, and feeling their dreams were slipping away. The people I spoke to expect the Government to do more and move faster. And I know that there are some in this House who believe Government is not the answer to these challenges and that less Government is better. But here's the thing: the Government cannot be a bystander to people suffering confusion and disenfranchisement. New Zealand must close the divide between those who have and those who have not, because the reality for my community is that those who have more money often wield more power, more health, more housing, more justice, more access, more canopy cover, more lobbyists with swipe cards, and more time. And the opposite is true for those who have fewer resources.
It's hard to be poor, it's expensive to be poor, and moreover, public discourse is making it socially unacceptable to be poor. Whether it's bashing on beneficiaries, dragging our feet towards a living wage, throwing shade on school breakfast programmes, or restricting people's ability to collectively bargain for fairer working conditions, we must do better to lift aspirations and the lived realities of all our people. To that end, I want to say to this House with complete surety that the neoliberal experiment of the 1980s has failed. The economics of creating unemployment to manage inflation is farcical when domestic inflation in New Zealand has been driven by big corporates making excessive profits. It's time to draw a line in the sand, and alongside my colleagues here in Te Pāti Kākāriki, we've come as the pallbearers of neoliberalism, to bury these shallow, insufferable ideas once and for all. And this, sir, is our act of love.
Paolo Freire, in his seminal work Pedagogy of the Oppressed, said love is an act of courage, not fear; love is a commitment to others. No matter where the oppressed are found, the act of love is a commitment to their cause, the cause of liberation. The most recent election campaign left many in our Māori communities bruised and targeted for the perceived privileges supposedly bestowed upon them. Shared governance is a rich concept about how we include those who've been excluded for far too long in the work of this House and the democratic institutions that are fundamental to our collective wellbeing. We are Tangata Tiriti and we have nothing to fear. As a New Zealand-born Samoan living in South Auckland, I've experienced, written about, and spoken about racism in this country. I've also been on a well-publicised journey in understanding the needs and views of our rainbow communities, and I have a long way to go. And my message to whānau who often experience the sharp end of discrimination—disabled, ethnic, rainbow, brown, seniors, and neurodiverse—is thank you for trusting us with the responsibility of facilitating a new discussion on how we move forward together and make possible what was once deemed impossible.
The American civil rights activist James Baldwin said, "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced." We commit to working across this House as a nation and with each other irrespective of our post code, income bracket, skin colour, or level of qualification attained. But, in order for that work, we must come with humility, the desire to listen, and dare I say it, maybe speaking last. If I was to inspire anyone by getting to this House and my work over the next three years, I hope that it's the square pegs, the misfits, the forgotten, the unloved, the invisible—it's the dreamers who want more, expect more, are impatient for change, and have this uncanny ability to stretch us further.

why liu runnan is the perfect fancast for sqh
Liu Runnan
LIKE IS THAT NOT SHANG QINGHUA
I first saw him in this show called Douluo Continent, where his character is a PITCH PERFECT Shang Qinghua
first of all, he's introduced fr like this:
cowering in fear. crying. begging for his life. perfect start.
AND THEN HE FUCKING DIES
Of course, it turns out he was just lying, and his ACTUAL character is being a hack artist
AGAIN ! it's a perfect sqh
i think the funniest fact about this drama i learned about -- other than the fact that it stars Xiao Zhan, Wei Wuxian's actor -- is that Shi Lan Ke is the pinyin version of the transliteration of SHREK from Chinese to English (transliteration inception).
Imagine giving your life for SHREK academy !!!
(i wonder if xiao zhan had a similar career trajectory to timothee chalamet. starred in one of the most famous gay medias ever (The Untamed, Call Me By Your Name), then used the BL fanbase clout to get the main role in the biggest upcoming action medias (Douluo Continent, Dune). )
Actually, I watched Ou Si Ke in Douluo Continent before I even read Scum Villain, so I spent the whole read-through imagining Ou Si Ke everytime Shang Qinghua showed up XD.
ICONIC
Anyways, that's not even my favorite thing Liu Runnan worked on. he also worked on one of those slice of life "i transmigrated into an ancient fantasy land and now I cook for audience food porn" shows, called "Gourmet in Tang Dynasty."
this show is not all that notable, pretty mid in fact, BUT it's saved by its absolutely batshit editing/writing choices
BEHOLD:
youtube
Why are they unironically using a SPONGEBOB transition in their official live action drama like what?? 😭😭😭
Anyways, that’s him with the white fan at the end.
but yeah, I think it's interesting the way cultures have cliches that are unfamiliar to other cultures. For instance, transmigration is getting so stale that we're getting parodies of it like with Scum Villain, but even now we're getting to the point where the parodies are also getting stale 😭😭😭. Douluo Continent even used to be a transmigration in the novel but they got rid of it for the live action. Meanwhile, in the US, nobody knows what that means lol...
Similarly, I wonder if SQH's character felt fresh to me only because I am not very familiar with chinese character tropes, having only encountered it before with Ou Si Ke. something to think about

.A e-sa-re-u , ke-<u->po-da , e-re-u-te-ro-se , SA 50
.B ]wa , SA 20 to-sa-de , na-u-do-mo , o-u-di-do-si
Translation
]wa FLAX 20; and so many that the ship-builders do not contribute. ke-u-po-da the e-sa-re-u made exempt.
Commentary
There were two ways of expressing an exemption from taxes at Pylos. o-u-di-do-si is a temporary exemption, whilst e-re-u-ta-ra is a permanent exemption. The quantities here are round numbers with no owed debts. These may be targets rather than received amounts.
]wa is likely a place name, which is assigned 20 units of flax to contribute.
na-u-do-mo – naudomoi – “shipbuilders.” Their exemption is 50 units, whilst the original valuation was 70 units.
o-u-di-do-si – ou didonsi – “they do not give.”
e-sa-re-u ke-u-po-da – likely a man’s name and a title. This is the person authorising the exemption. It seems likely that e-sa-re-u is a job title, given its parallels with qa-si-re-u. Furthermore, ke-u-po-da has a derivative adjective ke-u-po-de-ja, which describes a group of women. These descriptions of groups of women are often built to men’s names. However, ke-u-po-da could also be a title – kheuspondas – “libation pourer.”
e-re-u-te-ro-se – eleutherose – “he set free.” 3rd singular aorist, related to the adjective ἐλεύθερος. This is a permanent exemption in Pylian tax laws.

🌳 This season, our Bilimbi tree (Averrhoa bilimbi) is flourishing like never before, and I can't wait for this first major harvest! If you haven't heard of Bilimbi, it's a close cousin to the star fruit and has its origins in Southeast Asia. Somehow, this tropical gem made its way to Haiti, and I'm grateful it did! 🌏🇭🇹 The Bilimbi fruit is not just pleasing to the eye with its vibrant green color; it's also incredibly versatile in the kitchen. The tangy flavor makes it perfect for adding zing to salads, pickles, and chutneys, while its high acidity levels make it an excellent natural alternative to vinegar! 🥗🥒 But wait, there's more! Bilimbi fruit has been used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments, from relieving coughs and colds to reducing inflammation and even controlling blood sugar levels. 🌡️💊 I'm excited to share this amazing fruit with you all, and I'll be posting a fruit tasting soon enough. Stay tuned! 💚🌳 . . Ti gou si li an fè li pafè pou ajoute zing nan salad, pikliz, ak sauce pimant, pandan nivo asidite segondè l yo fè l yon bon altènativ natirèl pou vinèg! 🥗🥒 Men, tann, gen plis! Blenblen yo te itilize nan medikaman tradisyonèl pou trete divès maladi, soti nan soulaje tous ak rim jiska diminye anflamasyon e menm kontwole nivo sik nan san. 🌡️💊 Mwen kontan pataje fwi etonan sa a avèk nou tout, epi mwen pral afiche yon video degustasyon fwi sa a byento. Rete branche! 💚🌳 . . #GrownInHaiti #BilimbiTree #AverrhoaBilimbi #Blenblen #TropicalTangyTreats #DiscoverBilimbi #TropicalFruits #TreeCucumber https://www.instagram.com/p/CqL2nm0u_CR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The pages in this category are redirects from names that are unsuitable for inclusion in a printed version of Wikipedia. To add a redirect to this category, place {{Rcat shell|{{R unprintworthy}}}} on the second new line (skip a line) after #REDIRECT [[Target page name]]. For more information follow the links. Never substitute redirect template(s), nor place them on soft redirects.
See also the complete list of redirect templates and the redirect style guide.
This is a maintenance category, used for maintenance of the Wikipedia project. It is not part of the encyclopedia and contains non-article pages, or groups articles by status rather than subject. Do not include this category in content categories.
This is a tracking category. It builds and maintains a list of pages primarily for the sake of the list itself. They are not part of the encyclopedia's categorization scheme.
This category is hidden on its member pages—unless the corresponding user preference (appearance → show hidden categories) is set.
These categories can be used to track, build and organize lists of pages needing "attention en masse" (for example, pages using deprecated syntax), or that may need to be edited at someone's earliest convenience.
These categories also serve to aggregate members of several lists or sub-categories into a larger, more efficient list (discriminated by classifications).
"Unprintworthy" redirects are redirect pages on Wikipedia that aid online navigation, but would have little or no value as pointers to target articles in a hard-copy book. The name of a redirect may be unprintworthy for a number of reasons, including being nearly identical to the name of the target page, containing typographical errors, or not being encyclopaedic. Redirects are not unprintworthy just because the name may be offensive to some, unless the name is also not encyclopaedic.

Tulus
Huhu kembali lagi ke fungsi awal dari tumblr ini yaitu to record what I am grateful for.
Dari my main job dulu kali ya: menjadi 3rd year PhD student di Oxford University.
Kemarin hari Senin dapet surat dari Jardine kalau mereka approve my request for one more year funding extension!
I circulated MY R2R and revised ms to all co-authors!!! Tapi iya, ternyata duduk manis rapi fokus ngerjain dengan breaking down the tasks to smaller tasks really did HELP. Tapi at least bigger chunk of the tasksnya udah nggak di w lagi, melainkan di co-authors. Will it get easier after this? Of course not, karena co- authors juga pasti banyak banget feedbacknya. But, at least, ku sudah maju took one small (not that small personally for me) step ahead.
Belakangan ini juga agak rajin main table tennis sama Biao jam 5pm weekday, which is a good progress too(?) since I barely exercised sejak Archu graduated and moved out of Oxford.
Terus pas Nadia bilang acara pensi PPI London bakal ngundang Tulus amat sangat excited!!!
Tapi ternyata ya enak banget ya ga jadi pengurus acara apapun tuh. Ga pusing.
Tadi pagi! Kelas Pelatnas 2 IGEO isinya 18 orang. Gimana dongggggg.
Iya yaudah tapi intinya mau bilang aja super grateful masih punya opportunity untuk share how passionate I am in geology.
Masalahnya si Kalina lagi mudik ke SA jadi betul-betul I’m on my own now. Tapi gapapa namanya juga berikhtiar, her name is also effort….
Kebodohan kedua yang baru saja terjadi recently adalah: pas mau nonton Tulus hari Sabtu kemarin, ku ber-ide untuk ga studi lapangan dulu terkait transport Oxford-London. Jadi pas Beyonce kan ku ngebis dari rumah berangkat jam 15pm masih aman ye, sampe London 16.30pm dan venue 17.30pm. Aman banget tu. Nah ku soktau tanpa ngecek ada strike atau nggak, mikir kalau I will do fine this time if I leave at 15pm juga…. BETAPA SALAHNYA SAYA. Intinya ternyata gaada kereta running from Oxford ke Didcot. HUF long story short pokoknya Alhamdulillah jam 17.10pm sudah sampai Paddington dan ku sampai venue jam 17.30pm-an sepertinya. Sangat lega….
HUF long story short pokoknya Alhamdulillah jam 17.10pm sudah sampai Paddington dan ku sampai venue jam 17.30pm-an sepertinya. Sangat lega….
Sekian
