#it was supposed to be a tiny doodle but I just kept on yo-ing#I like her colors a lot hehhehehe#I like how they made her dragon design different from the golden trio. like she has a different shaped snout antlers and smaller ears#like I know the devs want us to know hey this is what zelda would look like as a dragon but following the zonai were descendants of gods/#dragons and zelda is a descendent of the zonai it just feels narratively pleasing to me lol#raurus hair looks similar to the dragons manes with the same undertones and everything. and he has horns where dragon horns would be#makes me wonder if the golden goddesses were incarnated as zonai this time around and they turned into dragons. that would be interesting#I don’t really know if that would make sense bc I’ve never played ss so j don’t have much background on the golden goddesses#totk#tears of the kingdom#totk spoilers#tears of the kindom spoilers#totk zelda#totk light dragon#my art#myart#doodles#loz#loz zelda

I have a question about your LoZ AU.
LoZ as a series has a bit of a weird depiction of humans. Hylians are almost always portrayed with pointed ears, although humans with rounded ears do show up sometimes (notable example is Wind Waker, where it's an actual plot point). I know this is a weird question, but would Ingo's, and by extension Ansy's, round ears be a point of interest to the inhabitants of Hyrule? I don't remember if BotW or Totk ever mentioned any area outside of Hyrule, and since everyone there have pointed ears, no one would have any idea as to where those humans came from.
Also, if I remember correctly, I think that pointed ears are a sign of a connection to the goddess Hylia. And given the generally polytheistic society in (most) Zelda games, then that could be another odd thing about Ingo and Ansy.
At the very least, their round ears would be a very clear indicator that both of them are not from Hyrule.
I know this is a weird question, but for some reason this topic has always been an interesting one for me. Especially since I remember my first reaction to Totk Ganondorf being that he's the only character in Totk and Botw with round ears. (Me : yeah sure his character design looks cool and he looks swoll, but LOOK AT HIS EARS-)
Pardon me, a flood of Zelda lore just rushed into my head lol - I’ve been a Zelda fan EVEN LONGER than I’ve been a Pokémon fan.
Okay, so round ears, our isekai-ed friends in Hero of Bombs / Isekai-ed Artist, & Ganondorf! (Lore dump ahead!)
It’s as you said - round ears have been a minor topic of interest in Hylian history, regardless of the timeline. I remember reading the booklet that came with A Link to the Past when I was little, about the creation of Hyrule & the Triforce. In there, they talked about how Hylians heard messages from the gods with their elven ears. One of the townsfolk in Ocarina of Time says the same thing.
Meanwhile, the earliest instance of round ears I can remember appearing is Ocarina of Time: ALL of the Gerudo (including OoT Ganondorf) had round ears - more on that in a bit. Another example came a little later in the Oracle games with the inhabitants of the other countries Oracle of Seasons / Ages Link visited (Holodrum & Labrynna), then again in Twilight Princess with the residents of Ordon Village (technically just outside Hyrule’s border).
(OoT Nabooru to the left, OoA Bippin & Blossom in the middle, & TP Colin to the right)
“Oh, okay. Gerudo & these folks from neighboring countries / villages just have round ears - easy!…Right?”
Until Breath of the Wild happened, reintroducing the Gerudo people after all these years with pointed ears like Hylians (not to mention different skin tones).
The Gerudo being an all female race (except for a male born every 100 years, often some incarnation of Ganondorf), they reproduce via men from other races (Hylian, Sheikah, etc). Stands to reason they would get traits from their fathers. Why, then, didn’t they have pointed ears back in OoT? Maybe round ears & darker skin used to be a stronger gene? I couldn’t tell you.
Why TotK Ganondorf has round ears might be an example of that gene coming back in the rarely born male, though honestly I just feel like they were just making a design choice to refer back to OoT Ganondorf, the very first depiction of him we saw in the games (though he was mentioned by name in A Link To the Past) as a love letter to us older fans.
(OoT Ganondorf to the left, TotK Ganondorf to the right)
I don’t think Nintendo wanted us to think too hard on it, or why some versions of Ganondorf actually does have pointed ears, even when it was the same Ganondorf (eg. OoT Ganondorf > WW Ganondorf / TP Ganondorf). All I know is that when ToTK Ganondorf stepped into the frame, my inner 10yo saw the villain from her nightmares (in the very best sense! 878)
As for Ingo & isekai-ed me (lol), the Hylians would probably just think of us as foreign visitors, maybe from Labyrnna / Holodrum. Link & probably some other key characters would know the truth, either by being told straight out, or intuition.
Side note: as Ingo muddles with his memories & ends up spending time with isekai-ed me, he wonders if we come from the same country / world (not quite, Ingo!)
—
(Editing to add maybe it was also a symbolic thing - pointed ears symbolizing communication with the divine, maybe it’s to say “he refuses to listen to heaven”? Who knows.)
#ask#hero of bombs#tears of the kingdom#zelda au#submas au#ingo#self insert#ganondorf#lore#I actually did have at least one nightmare with OoT Ganondorf in it as a little girl lol - dude had an imposing presence!#I think the fact that we first meet him when OoT Link & Zelda are also children deepened that impression#Like I’m a little girl watching little Link & Zelda square themselves up against this big evil king

Hermes redesign!
Design notes below the cut
His color scheme is inspired by Midna in LoZ. IDK, the vibes were just there. He has a dual color in his hair to show the duality of his nature. He was born with black hair with a tuft of blonde. It has gotten more pronounced as he’s gotten older, and is very prominent when he is in his “true” form. He gets this from his mother (shown in the last slide) Maia. Though he has more of Zeus’ skintone. His red eyes are due to his ties to the Underworld.
On Olympus/In the Underworld he wears very sporty clothes. He likes to wear as little fabric as possible, as he runs very hot (due to his mother being a pleiad/star (she herself doesnt wear any clothes), he has an insanely high internal temp). His preferred wear on the mortal realm is the Chlamys for similar reasons.
He spends a lot of time in disguise as a mortal, especially while doing Zeus’ bidding in the mortal realm— Hermes and Iris (and formerly Iris’ sister, Arke, though neither of the two are prominent chars) specifically are the only gods who are able to hide themselves even from other gods. He can disguise his nature and thus is able to travel through the Mortal Realm unrecognized by other gods. This becomes necessary when Persephone and him have a falling out, so he has to sneak around to pass messages through the realm. (other goddesses live with D/P, including his own mother). He has a cap made of a piece of Hades' helm of invisibility, that he uses to disguise his identity, though it does not fully conceal him.
Hermes is a god of many dualities— travel, thievery, commerce, messages, and psychopompery (new word dropped). As such, his true form dons many faces. His hair colors inverse, and his right eye swaps color. The ram because he is a god of fecundity and commerce, as the ram is a sign of fertility and was traded for meat and used as inspiration in art (this head was inspired by a rhyton I saw in the Met forever ago). His bird head is a magpie— which is typically associated with thieving and death. Both are aspects of Hermes and embodied in his true form. The wings are cus hehe he flies.

Hylia was referred to as "The Goddess of Wisdom" in one of your posts (the Hades-inspired artwork) so it got me wondering: does Nayru not exist in your AU? Are the three Golden Goddesses absent, or do you have something in mind for them?
(your Hylia is super pretty btw, I love that her hair is like water <3)
oh jesus that is OLD xD
no the Hades stuff was just a little one-off thing back when it was new; it means nothing for my actual zelda fanworks!
so no, Hylia does not replace Nayru; in the main stoyline of destiny (comic) the gods only briefly show up fully at the end and mostly only manifest parts of themselves bc in my story they cannot physically directly do much in those physical worlds aside from manipulate peoples dreams and in the small area of the one ancient spring (a seperate spring from the three usual ones that is dedicated to all three of the gods- demise destroying the one of his home created the gateway to hylias world btw) which is the reason they created deities like Hylia, a creature not a full god but not a mortal either, not what i would call a half-god tho; a Deity to do as the gods say, to act as a mere exentension of them in a world they cannot fully control ... bc what does a god hate more than not being able to control their creation .. :^)
if i ever get to the point of finishing destiny, depending on how i feel about it then and how well it was received, i could imagine adding an alternative ending where everyone lives and they work together to rid the gods influence from the world (the first ending is supposed to play into the rest of loz, the other one would mess up EVERYTHING but i cannot deny i have stuff for that planned as well ;__;)
basically the gods are the main looming threat, they are, essentially, the villain, their motives ... might be dissappointing but as they are gods they dont really have to make that much sense ..? i dont want to go into it too much unless it doesnt bother people to already know, i just hope it will feel right when the story gets to that point xO
i havent gotten to designing the gods fully yet as, again, they show up rather late so its gonna change anyway, this is an old concept of Nayru
here in the background are they again with a more recent design (this sketch is for a .... another dream game based on the alternative good ending for destiny where here you fight as demise against the gods in their realm.. i know its a bit convoluted all but my brain likes to brrrrrrrr when thinking about loz and games so theres lots of ideas and concepts that have no chance of ever becoming real)
also thank you!!
#ganondoodles answers#art#?#legend of zelda#loz#tloz#tloz destiny lore#idk how to tag this lol#ill be honest i am a lil worried that finding out why the gods do what they do in the story is gonna make people dissappointed#QAQ

LoZ - Hyrule's Hanami Festival
The Hanami Festival was originally a Sheikah holiday that has since been adopted by all of Hyrule.
The beginning of spring is spent harvesting Satori Cherries from the villages' nearest Satori Tree(s) which are then used to brew various alcoholic beverages. As is tradition, the highest-quality yield from that year is then offered back to Satori as thanks for him allowing the villagers to enjoy the fruits of his blessing & the bounty of spring.
Then, it's held on the final 3 days of spring during the evenings. The biggest & grandest one being held in the field between Mabe Village & Castle Town where many make the journey to celebrate.
Was originally, for the most part, a holiday to focus on & enjoy the beauty of spring & observe the flowers blooming with picnics, which is much like how Hanami is celebrated IRL.
However, since Satori's first appearance, honoring him has been added to the festival due to him being a minor god of spring. Even today, the festival isn't solely focused on the devout worship of him so much as it is about celebrating spring through honoring him. Or is it honoring him by simply celebrating spring?
Anyway, it even used to be that long before Satori came to be that Farore, the Great Deku Tree, & Karina (Goddess of Love & Healthy Relationships) were all also honored in some way at Hanami, but due to the worship of The Three falling by the wayside & the Deku Tree living in a forest that most are unable to visit, this has been largely forgotten. Really only Karina is remembered & still actively honored out of the 3 mentioned.
Even still, traditional Hanami decorations still feature iconography of Farore & the Deku Tree even though no one truly remembers where this iconography originally came from.
Despite all the hullabaloo, many families still opt to take the more chill route to celebrate by just going to enjoy the spring air & scenery together on picnics anyway.
---
Hanami also has a lot of different springtime activities & games such as bug catching & fishing. Not to mention music & plenty of other things to buy besides food & drinks.
There's also arts, crafts, jewelry, springtime fashion, & so on.
And, again, this isn't all in worship of Satori, specifically, but rather a general celebration of spring, new life, & new beginnings.
There's even a flower dance where all the eligible bachelors & bachelorettes go for a chance to possibly find a match. Doesn't always work out like that, but there's no really pressure to dance well. In fact, there's almost always a designated terrible dancer in the group so that some weight is taken off of the younger ones to not dance perfectly.
—
Many villages team up into pairs to make their alcoholic offerings to Satori.
Kakariko makes Satori Sake, which is brewed from Satori Cherries, Hylian Rice, & Kakarikōji (a special type of yeast made only in Kakariko).
Hyrule Castle Town & Mabe work together to make Satori Bourbon, which is made from Satori Cherries, Tabantha Wheat, & Zonai Corn.
Hateno makes Satori Mead, made from Satori Cherries & Courser Bee Honey.
Lurelin makes Satori Rama, which is made of Satori Cherries & Cane Sugar.
Terry Town makes Satori Liqueur using Satori Cherries, Zonai Corn, Sugar, & Sundelions.
Deya makes Satori Moscato from Satori Cherries, Cane Sugar, Sweetvine Grapes, & Shock Fruit.
Gaponga & Zora's Domain work together to make Satori Wine which is made using Satori Cherries, Cane Sugar, & Splash Fruit.
Tabantha Village & Rito Village work together to make Satori Vodka with Satori Cherries, Tabantha Wheat & Hearty Radishes/Tundra Potatoes.
Ordon makes Satori Whiskey which is made from Satori Cherries & Zonai Corn.
Ealiyah & Gerudo Town work together to make Sàtrï Shedeh which is made from Satori Cherries, Bloodberry Grapes, Warm/Cool Safflina, Oasis Honey, & Frostbane Blossom/Desert Queen. Whether Warm Safflina & Frostbane Blossom or Cool Safflina & Desert Queens are used depends on which town is heading the brewing process that year.
Shadow Hamlet & Goron City work together to make Satori Vodka which is made from Satori Cherries, Warm Safflina, & Hylian Rice. They have a bit of a rivalry with Hebra over which vodka recipe is better.
—
At the Central Hyrule Hanami Festival, guests & representatives from other villages tend to gather & set up food booths with spring treats from their hometown.
Things like Satorimochi from Kakariko, Cherry Pies from Ordon, Satori Slushes & Satori Crepes from Gerudo & Ealiyah, & more.
Also, many non-cherry centric treats are enjoyed too. Things like Profiteroles from Castle Town & Mabe, Beingets from Goponga, Honeymilk for the kids, Meat Buns & Sunkin Pies from Hateno, Meat Pies & Tabantha Bakes from Hebra, Hot Buttered or Honeyed Apples, Malasada & Baked Bananas from Lurelin, Wildberry Crepes & Pies from Ealiyah, Spiced Meat Skewers from Eldin, a variety of barbeques from Ordon, ect.
Not to mention a wide variety of alcohols & cocktails. Like Courser Mead, Umeshu from Kakariko, Cinder Ales from Eldin, Aqua Vitas (both regular & frozen sangría styles), Chateau Romani from Mabe, Bloody Hildas from Tabantha, & more.
Faron & the Gerudo just sort of open up makeshift bars with a whole array of booze & cocktails.
For instance, Lurelin has Dirty Bananas, Kalima ʻAlani (both regular & daiquiri styles), Lurelin Sunsets, & Paina Coladas.
Meanwhile, the Gerudo have Hot Toddies, Hydromelon Daiquiris, Shockonanas, Noble Pursuits, & Spiced Pineapple Shrugs.

mac here tonight!!!
not much new proper art to show on the blog yet (i promise working on busts for the rest of the links and we're both trying to make some full refs for the people) so i'm gonna talk a bit about hylia's hoard stuff because i can
tonight's topic... gods and fairies!
a distinctive thing about the big gods of this au (golden goddesses, hylia, majora and fierce deity are counted here, and demise, etc) is that they are dragons. so, lots of dragon gods. similar in aesthetic to botw's dragons since hexapedal animals are cool :]
(din, farore, nayru, and hylia designs)
because hylia is a dragon, all of her reincarnation's descendants have dragon blood and thus may have the ability to turn into a dragon, so if you see a lot of dragon zeldas in this au, that's why! this actually wasn't inspired by totk and was something planned back before its teaser in 2019... can't believe we predicted totk on accident...
now what about fairies? these little buggers have also been cursed with the mac turns everything into a lizard and are now... lizards! specifically geckos of all shapes and sizes to replace the tiny balls of light. that are no longer tiny actually
(top to bottom, left to right: ciela, proxi, navi, and tatl)
sorry they're really fun to doodle and most of my art is just ciela and navi
if you see uno (our og loz and aol link) with a tail and some big ol freckles, that's because he's also a fairy! less obvious to people who don't know hhoard fairies are geckos and more obvious to people who we've shoved lizards in their faces
(tael, tatl, and navi with our boy hop)
our askbox is open if you have any burning questions about this au or wanna see more!
have a favorite game? race? link? zelda? general character (who you might even think is underrated)? anything you want us to talk about? maybe a teeny bit of lore? we like to ramble and would love to ramble at tumblr about our au :]

Era of Hylia Lore 2
Demise’s War against Hylia
So, the world of LOZ was created by Din, Farore and Nayru. They had the ultimate say in what to put into this world, probably spent a good amount of time on it and therefore probably didn’t want to see it destroyed. If that’s the case then why does Demise exist? Was he created by all three of them or just Din? If so, why would the gods created something that could destroy everything else they had created?
I don’t like the idea that he was created by the gods and was evil just cause chaos as some sort of experiment, because that’s not very compelling. Let’s say he was created by the gods, and he wasn’t made inherently evil. Such that his tribe was just a tribe like all the others (sure they were demons living underground, but that don’t mean they’re automatically evil). And like any other tribe, they sought to expand their territory and gain power. To achieve this, they waged war on the surface tribes- who at that point had all been assimilated into Hylia’s land, so it was basically a war against her directly and take over her land.
Then again, fact that Demise’s forces come from a fissure in the ground is interesting. Like did he and Hylia have beef even before the war? Maybe Hylia had a tussle with them in the past, but because they weren’t very powerful back then and weren’t deserving of her protection, she just sealed them underground (this would be before Allen’s time). Angering their king, who learnt from the battle and spent the next century or two learning magic and crafting his own version of the Goddess sword and Ghirahim.
Ooh sidenote: Fi isn’t special. I mean, she’s the spirit in the Goddess sword so she is, but inherently she isn’t. By that I’m suggesting that any powerful magic wielder can create an intelligent life form that exists in/is a weapon. Of course, some would be more powerful than others depending on who made them, with Fi being the most powerful to exist because a Goddess made her.
Demise had a strange piece of dialogue in the final battle in SS. I can’t remember what it was exactly, but it was something about how Hylia reincarnating was stupid and how pitiful the human form is compared to her divine one. And I’m thinking that...Demise respected Hylia. I don’t think he hates her like he hates Sky, and I’m gonna go out on a limb here and suggest that Demise was inspired by the Goddess Sword and forged his blade to be like to Hylia’s. They’re practically equal and opposite swords, so similar in design that it can’t have been just a coincidence, right?
Anyway, Hylia had known for a while that the demon tribe would launch an attack. Maybe the Golden Goddess warned her through visions, maybe she foresaw the event in dreams or maybe after the battle I proposed earlier Demise straight up told her that he’d return with a vengeance. This might have prompted her to pick up a hero and take on the beta-Sheikah as her servants in the first place. Extra muscle to secure her victory and legacy.
The reason she didn’t do anything to stop the attack before it happened was...uh...idk, she was arrogant and didn’t see them as a threat or something like that.
Once the actual war starts and thousands of bloodthirsty monsters, demons and low-level grunts pour out from the gaping split, the surface dwellers are kinda collectively fucked
Like, all their armies were dismantled by Allen and his crew under Hylia’s orders, so they were vastly outnumbered. No one other than Allen’s crew were especially good at fighting as there was peace in Hylia’s land, so no need for soldiers. They weren’t really given time to train up a proper army because Demise basically popped up out of nowhere.
It descended into total chaos, as Hylia grossly underestimated her enemy and had to watch the land she took care of crumble apart as her people fled in panic, rag tad resistance groups made up mostly of peasants and low-skilled tradesmen were slaughtered and tribes turn against each other in a bit to save themselves. They may have all shared the land under Hylia’s rule but they were not united.
Seeing the writing on the wall (though it was more like hastily printed chicken scratch), Hylia acted swiftly, gathering together all the living Hylians and leading them to the Sacred Grounds in preparation to be sent skyward bound.
When I played SS, I thought it weird that Hylia took the Hylians up to the sky and seemingly left the other tribes on the war-torn surface to eat shit and fend for themselves. I wasn’t sure if it was because she was instructed by the Golden Trio to protect just the Hylians, or if she herself wanted to take only them or if she had the power to only take them and physically couldn’t manage anymore.
Tbh, I still don’t have an answer that puts her in an honorable light, at best it makes her incompetent. Saving only one tribe when there are others (these being the gorons, beta-Zora, other now extinct races etc.) in desperate need of help is a dick move on her part. The only way to justify this negligence is if they actively avoided her help and took Demise’s attack as an opportunity to free themselves and flee. Since they didn’t help each other, they obviously didn’t extend a helping hand to the conqueror who low-key put them in the situation to begin with.
While Hylia was executing the mass evacuation of the Hylians, Allen and the boys were deep in the fray, holding back Demise’s forces from reaching the Sacred Grounds. Uh, they fail and they all die, with Allen never even getting the chance to fight Demise. That’s right, he dies to the onslaught of grunts, not even making it to Ghirahim- who’s in humanoid form and kicking ass I guess.
This has to be how it went down because Demise himself says this in the final fight, “Extraordinary. You stand as a paragon of your kind, human. You fight like no human or demon I have ever known.” meaning that he never even encountered the first hero, that or he put up such a pathetic fight that Demise forgot his existence. Which...oof.
I’m gonna say here that Allen fell because he didn’t have the backup he needed, he had all the heart and courage in the world, but lacked power in the form of aid from others. Wild in AoC couldn’t defeat the Calamity without the help of every tribe in Hyrule. And Allen being some dude who got a little power boost needed people to stand by him as well as the support of Hylis. However, the tribes he once subjugated abandoned him, the Hylians who had been coddled and looked after for years were too useless to even be meat-shields and his Goddess had left him alone in order to save what was left of her people.
Allen didn’t have the Triforce of Courage or any special magic, so he likely clung to the power of the Goddess Sword and relied to much on it’s strength rather than his own. It’s no wonder he failed, he was literally just some guy, he wasn’t as untouchable as many thought.
Hylia had to face Demise herself. After starting the process of lifting up land into the firmament (I think with the Triforce), she flew down on her crimson loftwing, used her divine powers to decimate Demise’s army as she soared past the front lines- seeing the mangled corpses of Allen’s comrades as she passed.
Suddenly a faint light from below caught her eye, she flew down to see Fi waving at her. The exhausted spirit informed her that the hero had fallen and that only she could stop Demise from taking over the world. There was no time to waste, Fi transformed once again into sword form held now by her true master, as she raced into battle.
Hylia reaches the Demon King amidst a wasteland littered with the freshly deceased of both their people. She speaks first, berating the monster for his unjust attack, his cruelty toward her people, his cowardness for letting his minions lead the charge and his unholy defiance for challenging the Goddess of Light.
Demise is unfazed by her accusations, amused by her anger and responds calmly. He tells her that he gave her a fair warning, that it is her fault for not taking his threat seriously and prepare accordingly. He rightly lists all the times she imposed her will and control over others because she arrogantly believed it was for their benefit. Of course nobody would stand by her after all she’s done, why risk your life when you have your own to protect? And in this case what he’s doing now is what she has done for centuries, only difference being, she’s on the losing side this time. In his opinion he sees no point in wasting his strength on those weaker than him. But if he is a coward for having minions to carry out his orders, then Her Grace is no different, for she hides behind the mighty blade forged for her yet wielded by some lowly human he’s never even seen. Not to mention that he doesn’t need the Goddess’ support, for he found a way to rise to their level with his own power alone (yeah I’m talking dark magic, but is that inherently evil?). As far as he’s considered, they’re equals.
This disgusts Hylia, who immediately engages the fiend in combat, using the Goddess Sword effectively against his deformed cursed blade (Ghirahim was in blade form when Hylia approached him I suppose), recalling the many lessons she had with Allen. His teachings proved advantageous and along with the full might of the Goddess Sword she weakened Demise just enough for her to seal him away with her power...or the Triforce...or both, whichever.
Once the ordeal finally over Hylia begins to take in the shear devastation the conflict caused. She wanders the tattered rubble covered foundations where cozy homes once stood, the bloodied trampled flowers that bloomed in the once lush green fields and the murky waters of the now heavily polluted rivers that branched out across the landscape like veins, connecting every broken part of the land. Their blood was on her hands, she could have prevented this but didn’t. Why? What went wrong? She had all the power and wisdom in the world, yet here she was standing alone as her empire collapsed.
Well, she wasn’t alone. Allen was alive (barely), and Fi led the confused and tired Goddess to where he lay. Upon seeing her champion so thoroughly brutalised made Hylia weep and regret ever getting him involved in this. What had she been thinking? He wasn’t ready for any of this. The duty fell on her to protect what the Golden Trio created, yet she put the burden onto others and for what? For them to die in a hopeless struggle?
The Goddess can only watch the man slowly bleed out, she cannot heal him for she needs to conserve what’s left of her power to complete the last part of her plan.
The hero himself knows he is dying and accepts it, he was honoured to fight in her name and apologises for failing her, his comrades and their people. Hylia insists that he did not fail her, in fact it was the opposite, she had failed them and in the spur of the moment poured out her plans to reincarnate herself to maintain the seal on Demise, build up her strength to finally defeat him once and for all in the future.
Which was a mistake, because Allen insists that he be reincarnated too so that he can carry out what he started and avenge his comrades...heroic stuff like that. Hylia wanted to let him rest and join his loved ones in the afterlife (or the other world or wherever dead people end up in LOZ), but she honoured his dying wish and entwined their fates together. In another lifetime, they would end this.

LoZ AU- The Courage of Running Away Part FOURTEEN
You’ll see why this one took a while in just a second, I did that thing where I drew a whole ass scene again
Content warning for fantasy religions based loosely on Christian schisms
#AU August
#LoZ AU: The Courage of Running Away
So while Link is getting acclimated to Castle life and getting hugs from Marla and Tonbo (and also getting unofficially adopted by the royal family) Astramorus flies back to the Sky Temple with his loftwing.
And he has a lot of time to think while he’s doing it; I don’t know how fast a loftwing flies but even so it would have taken some hours on Hera’s back and you don’t have anything to do up there but think about why you got blasted through a wall by a god-queen. So he gets back and he’s feeling pretty fucking subdued when he hands Hera off to the Sky Temple commune’s gardener/bird caretaker, Maurice.
[Image description: Astramorus, looking tired and still missing his hat, his hair a mess, is standing opposite a short and round mustached man with bushy eyebrows dressed in the same priestly robes, except that this man has his sleeves shortened to his elbows and is wearing thick gloves. This man is holding Hera the loftwing by a lead, while she makes a particularly vacant happy face. “NAYRU’S EYES, man, WHAT HAPPENED?” Astramorus gives a very small smile, and after a pause, answers, “TURBULENCE.” The man harrumphs skeptically, then says, “Well, LORD SERENUMBRA from the LORULEAN ORTHODOXY showed up three days ago and he’s been giving me ADVICE ON MY TOMATOES, so turbulence or OTHERWISE I’d appreciate you DISTRACTING HIM before I commit some WEEDING.” Astramorus smiles. “Ah,” he says in understanding. “Yes, thank you for your PATIENCE, Maurice.” End ID.]
A note on Maurice, originally I was going to make him look like Gaepora OR Rauru and then Ice suggested basing him on Maurice-Belle’s-Dad and I liked that, so I blended the ideas a bit.
I think I’ve mentioned that Lorule and Hyrule have different takes on the Hylia religion, haven’t I?
Basically since this Lorule is just the country south of Hyrule instead of a dark-mirror-universe world, Invid suggested that part of the idea might be that Lorule insists that Hyrule is wrong about which country the Golden Goddesses left the world from, and that the Triforce belongs there instead. I kind of played with that a little further, and so now part of the thing is that their royal line is actually also descended from Hylia directly, except that at some point a sister broke off from (one or the other of) the royal family, founding the Hilda line versus the Zelda line.
And real quick here’s the Hilda of this story, which I promise is relevant:
[Image Description: Sketches of a tall, black haired woman with pale skin and blue eyes and extremely long pointed ears, dressed in a cape and dress of purple, dark blue, red and gold. She wears a blue and green belt trimmed with gold and black gloves, and a diadem featuring a red gemstone and golden spread wings. There is an inverted Triforce symbol on her sash. She is also wearing black lipstick and red blush and eyeshadow. A sketch to the side shows her making a decidedly less dignified expression with the note “All the finery and rouge is a desperate attempt to fool you into thinking Hilda is in her twenties but she’s only actually seventeen, same as Link.” Another sketch shows her next to an old man with round glasses and priestly robes different to the Hyrulean priests, who only comes up to her chest. She has her hands on her hips and is ranting at him. A note reads, “Hilda TOL.” End ID.]
Anyway the thing is that currently, the two churches are relatively peaceable with one another, they have joint gatherings to quibble about tradition and who should be allowed to have what sacred treasures and who has to bring the roast boar next time, and that is how a very young novice Astramorus ended up as friends with the man he would eventually match in equivalent rank, Lord Serenumbra. Who gets a nice picture equivalent piece to Astra’s introduction because of symmetry:
[Image Description: The same short priest from the picture with Hilda. He has white loosely curly hair, circular gold glasses, a hat similar to Astramorus’s but in red, a dark red robe over a black underdress, both trimmed in gold, and is wearing a heavy golden neck piece with an inverted Triforce and golden wings framing a blue disc. To the side are various comic panels; in the first, he has taken an extremely young Astramorus’s hand and is saying, “Let me be the first to CONGRATULATE you, my friend!” In the second, he’s spread his arms wide while approaching Astramorus and Catena, Link’s mother. “Let me be the first to CONGRATULATE YOU, my friends!” he’s saying, and Catena laughs, giving Astramorus a rough side hug that lifts him off his feet despite her only coming to his chest, while Astramorus gives her a gooey smile. “TOO LATE,” she says, “I told my mum first,” and laughs. In the last panel, Astramorus has collapsed limp into a chair at a dining room table, his hair in his eyes, his face wet with tears, propping his head on one arm as Serenumbra pats his shoulder from behind the chair. “Let me be the first to say,” Serenumbra says, “How DEEPLY SORRY I am, my friend.” End ID.]
This is awful but that’s currently my favorite picture of Astramorus.
Serenumbra’s design is based on the priest and philosopher from ALttP and Link Between Worlds; the philosopher’s robes were red so I sorta priestified them. The blue disc in the center of his neck piece represents the Moon Pearl from ALttP, which was actually red in the game but blue in some of the promotional materiel, and the blue was a nicer contrast. The Moon Pearl was mostly important because it let Link run around in his human form in the Dark World but I always liked it because it was sort of weird and mysterious. In Four Swords Adventures there’s actually a LOT of moon pearls and they let you make portals between the worlds. There isn’t going to be a lot of world hopping in this AU, I just thought it was interesting context.
Anyway here’s two old friends having a conversation, image description and a little more commentary plus some bonus poking at Astramorus at the end:
[Image Descriptions: Astramorus is entering a room with a rounded door and a coat rack on the wall. “Seren?” he calls. “ASTRAMORUS, are you QUITE all right?” Serenumbra answers. He is sitting at a round table in the center of the room; there are two dining chairs, one of which he is sitting in, and opposite of him is a comfortable looking rocking chair. “I came because I heard about your SON, have you still not found him?” Astramorus, looking deeply pained, straightens some of his hair with one hand. “I found him,” he says. He settles into the rocking chair with a long creak. Serenumbra is clearly shocked by his demeanor. “Astra,” he says, concern clear in his face, “What HAPPENED?” Astramorus stares at the ceiling while looking like death warmed over. There is a panel fading from light to dark to indicate the passage of time, then we see that Serenumbra has a hand to his mouth in thought. “So the queen refuses to see the DANGER here,” he says. Astramorus has folded his hands together. “She’s right about my SON, though,” he answers. Serenumbra is quick to defend Astramorus to himself: “Well- he’s such a SOFT BOY, you wanted him PREPARED,” he begins, but Astramorus stops him. “I pushed him too hard, too SOON, and with too little CARE.” Astramorus lifts his hands and grins painfully, continuing, “WHAT was I DOING, trying to teach him how to FIGHT when all I knew was an ADULT’S routine?” He puts a hand to his chin, still smiling. “I must be the STUPIDEST MAN ALIVE.” “Astra,” Serenumbra begins again, and Astramorus interrupts again. “My wife used to tell me I WORRIED too much, did I ever mention that?” He asks. His face turns solemn. “It was even one of the LAST THINGS she said to me,” he says. We get a glimpse of young Astramorus and Catena together backlit by the sun; she’s wearing a blue version of the classical Link costume with a sword strapped to her back and plate armor on her shoulders, he’s wearing his priestly robes and hat. She’s reached up to grab his face, grinning, while he’s put his hands on hers. “And then she died,” Astramorus says. He sits up, animate once more. “What else could I DO but worry?!” he demands. “You’ve studied the legends, same as I-” he subsides again- “That mark on Link’s hand may as well be a DEATH SENTENCE.” He puts a hand on his face. “And I’ve so THOROUGHLY FAILED him that now I’ve put the Royal Family in danger TOO.” Serenumbra puts a hand to his chin, thoughtfully. “WELL, you never KNOW,” he says, “Princess HILDA is more of an age with Link, maybe the Triforce of Wisdom will arise in the LORULEAN line this time.” Astramorus laughs. “That doesn’t change the SITUATION, Seren,” quietly adding “But also KEEP DREAMING.” He then puts his hand to his mouth. “How do I even BEGIN to atone?” Astramorus asks. “Ahh, old friend,” Serenumbra answers, soothingly. “If only Catena were still WITH us, she’d know how to ease the boy’s burden. Why-she’d face down GANON HIMSELF if it came to that!” Astramorus makes an intense face, as if he’s been suddenly burdened. Serenumbra stands and puts a hand on his shoulder. “Get some REST, dear friend, you still look TERRIBLE,” he says with a smile. Astramorus is wringing his hands, staring forward. End ID.]
DUMBASS BRAINCELLS ENGAGED.
I didn’t expect “Got pegged by his wife so hard that the mere invocation of her name knocked him back to his senses after over eleven years of fucking shitty behavior towards their son” to be on the bingo card for this character when I started this project either, but this is Draft 0.5 so anything can happen XD
Astramorus is so layered now what the fuck!
[Image Description: Serenumbra, face full of concern, asks, “Astra, what HAPPENED?” Astramorus stares at the ceiling like death warmed over. Behind him are the words “HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND.” End ID.]
[Image Description: Serenumbra, face full of concern, asks, “Astra, what HAPPENED?” Astramorus stares at the ceiling like death warmed over. Behind him are the words “WELL FIRST OF ALL I FUCKING DIED.” End ID.]
[Image Description: Serenumbra, face full of concern, asks, “Astra, what HAPPENED?” Astramorus stares at the ceiling like death warmed over. Behind him are the words “...my wife made this chair.” End ID.]
Catena got into carving as a hobby during long trips but she started making furniture while dealing with nesting urges while pregnant, so imagine this little tank of a woman assembling a rocking chair for her tol noodle husband while ranting about her weird cravings.

Hewwo my belovd! This amphibian hops on every question from 1-50 for the Zelda asks 💖
Toadbae I Tried but I couldn't do them all. Here's the ones I found interesting!
1. Is there a Zelda game(s) that you associate with each season or time of year?
Yes! I’m pretty sure I got TP for Christmas one year and I always associate playing that with the abysmal darkness that is winter in the northern hemisphere. Also rather theme-appropriate to the game tbh.
2. Favourite 2D title?
I haven’t played a single 2D Zelda yet.
3. Favourite incarnation of Zelda?
Ahhh that’s a hard question! OoT Zelda holds such a special place in my heart as my first Zelda, but Dusk is so gorgeous and looks like she just never smiles (love that for her), but then Tetra is such a badass, and SS Zelda is such a sweetheart, BotW Zelda has such incredible characterization and growth… I can’t choose!!
4. Least favourite entry in the series?
Gonna get my ass beat by a breakfast food for this one, but honestly?? TP. It’s the only title I didn’t immediately pick up and play through a second time. I bet I’d feel differently if I picked it up again today, though.
5. Favourite LOZ soundtrack?
If we’e going with game as a whole, absolutely BotW’s soundtrack. The beautiful melancholy of riding around Hyrule to the notes of songs half-remembered just soothes my brain, and hearing Termina’s clocktower chime in the Hyrule Castle interior theme legit made me tear up.
6. Is there a Zelda game that intimidates you/looks too hard?
Not really! Zelda titles are always super fun and challenging, but never “hard.” The only game I’ve stopped for being hard/scary was RE4.
7. Favourite dungeons?
OoT Water Temple, MM Stone Tower, SS Ancient Cistern. I love dungeons that are huge puzzles!!
9. Least favourite character in the series?
Honestly, Midna. Her redemption arc never satisfied me, but I am the type to hold a grudge.
11. Favourite Ganon characterization?
WW’s Ganondorf was the most sympathetic of his incarnations imo, he had an interesting motivation and I felt bad for him, honestly. Dude deserved better.
15. Favourite location within Hyrule?
That depends on the game, tbh. In SS, it’s the Lanayru Desert (AND the Silent Realms). Kakariko Village is usually pretty solid no matter the game.
16. Favourite location outside of/parallel to Hyrule (Termina, Lorule, Holodrum, Subrosia, the Dark World, Labrynna, the Great Sea, etc)?
On the Great Sea, the Tower of the Gods.
In Termina, Ikana Canyon.
22. Favourite incarnation of Link?
My fav Link will always be my OG, OoT/MM Link.
25. Favourite companion (Midna, Ezlo, Navi, etc)?
Honestly Fi was pretty legit. I appreciated the subtle sass.
31. Hardest dungeon played?
Back to my favs: OoT Water Temple, SS Ancient Cistern. They’re difficult to figure out but so satisfying when you do!
32. Game with the best map design?
BotW, I could literally get lost on that map for days (and I have!).
33. Do you prefer puzzles or combat?
Absolutely puzzles. Combat is just mashing buttons and timing, but the puzzles actually use my brain.
35. Game with the hardest final boss?
Demise is the only final boss who killed me MULTIPLE TIMES.
38. Creepiest enemy?
Anyone who doesn’t answer Dead Hand is lying to themselves and Hylia.
41. Favourite ocarina song?
Song of Storms.
43. Favourite transformation mask from Majora's Mask?
Obvi the Fierce Deity mask.
44. Hardest sidequest in the series?
I’m not sure this qualifies as a “sidequest” but that goddamn motherfucking asshole in SS with the carnival game that shoots you in the air can suck my dick. I never got that piece of heart. I wanted to wrap that horn around his THROAT.
45. Best sidequest in the series?
The Anju and Kafei sidequest from MM is probably the most memorable, but the fetch quests in SS were pretty fun.
50. Favourite shield?
Goddess Shield is so pretty, even if the colors make my eyes bleed just a lil.

Now it’s Din’s turn, yippeeeee 🙌
Hummmm, I don’t really know what to say about this design, but I feel like the pose she’s striking looks a bit odd… whatever
Should I keep making stuff like this or not? 🤔 Let me know!
Also, I really need to keep developing the story for my Link and Zelda OCs and bring them to life through drawings 🤭.
But with school starting again, I might have less time to draw, so I’ll probably post less frequently—but I’ll do my best 😌💪!

LoZ Ask Game!
🎮 Favorite Zelda game?
I'm gonna condense your other three asks into this one, if that's cool! 👍 Oooh, and a pretty tough one to start!
I think at this point... It's a tie between Ocarina of Time & Twilight Princess, for me. I love BotW and Skyward Sword, but I also struggle to play them, personally. MM is another game I could gush about forever! But me playing it, personally... It's a struggle, too.
OoT got me loving LoZ, and it's a classic, "safe" game for me. Incredibly comforting and easy to get back into! Whereas TP's wolf Link holds a dear place in my heart, the dark, glowing style is charming (especially in the HD remake), Midna is SUCH a fun companion (in retrospect, the evolution to who Tatl was), and I really enjoy Zant, too. Everything design-wise of TP delights me!
...I could probably add Wind Waker to this, but I don't play it as much as the other two!! Maybe someday... (And when my bias for Zora finally chills out. The Rito are cool and Medli is one of my faves, but... I really do still prefer the Zora!)
😤 Any Zelda-related Pet Peeves?
I have weirdly strong beef with "wrong takes" over my favorite characters and theories, kdfhjdks-
For example, there were theories when Tetraforce was still popular, over how the fourth goddess could've been the Gerudo's Goddess of Sands or the Goddess of Time mentioned in MM. Both of these are wrong to me, and I wonder how an "evil" goddess could've been overlooked!? (How else did Demise come to be?? All his people?! He ranks the same as Hylia to me, so it's weird that he's treated as a "god" in his own right...)
A character example has been Ruto, with an extra dose of Personal™ cause I had this thought when I was younger...but the misunderstanding of her character. Mostly trying to say she's "only" love-focused when her growth as an "adult" was...honestly quite mature. Yes, she still had feelings for Link (and acknowledged them at their reuniting & when she ascended as a Sage), but also acknowledged that this wasn't the time for any of that; her people were in danger and saving the Temple was MUCH more important.
Also, maaaybe judging someone based on their bratty, 10-year old attitude (as a spoiled princess, no less) is. Hmm. Misguided? For such a stubborn, brat of a kid, she grew up really well and changed herself; likely without much aid of the adults around her. That should be appreciated more.
👊 Favorite Zelda Villain/Boss?
...Nevermind, THIS is the tough question! A favorite boss?! I have to pick one...?! I'll certainly try...
I would have to say Majora's Mask. Yes, the whole end boss fight, not even any particular form. As both a villain and a boss fight, they're just... Incredible. Truly summarizing the special brand of horror and mayhem you've dealt with in the titular game. The cause of all problems...and with their death, the end of it, too. It's poetic in a way.
Though I'll give some honors, too, to Bongo-Bongo, Demise, and [Wind Waker] Ganondorf. Bongo-Bongo I have a whole origin theory on, who gives a lot for people to think about. (Given the temple he resides within.) Demise was cool as hell, but I mostly hype up the beginning of all things LoZ (the reincarnation cycle) and the stage for the fight itself... And Wind Waker Ganondorf is one of- if not THE best- Ganondorf of the series. None have yet lived up to his depth of character, and it highlights his madness and brutal end all the more for it, I feel.
#warriorsofcrimsonrealms#Aki answers#hilariously MM made it back at the end anyways LMAO#honestly my LoZ theories fit into my Tetraverse lore anyways...#so I continue to feel like I should work more on that#sooner rather than later ofc but y'knooooww!!#I have SO much more work to do#(almost all of it art related)#so it'll happen! eventually!!!#(in the meantime I have a secret sideblog for my LoZ theory work LMAO)

LoZ - Karina, Goddess of Love & Passion
If there's no goddess of love in Hyrule, I'll make one up.
I suggest that she'd be known as a higher goddess of love & passion (specifically, healthy relationships, pudicity & fidelity, as well as soulmates; specifically, the bond between soulmates), life (specifically new life & rebirth), as well as sexual relations (specifically, the tenderness & emotional connection experienced between those who are in love), vivifatility (pertaining to both fertility & virility), femininity, balance, beauty & the arts (including music & fashion), compassion, the moon, the truth (specifically authenticity), bravery, righteous retribution, the hearth & home (especially hospitality, food/cooking, family, ect), healing & medicine, nature (very specifically flowers, fruit, oases, the seashore, & the tides aided by her connection to the moon), kijugami (protector ogre goddesses/tutelaries (female kishin); they are considered her vassals), & a defender of children as well as abuse/rape victims regardless of their sex. Also, springtime & even summertime to a degree while her brother has greater alignment to fall & winter.
Due to both her power over flowers & fruit, as well as cooking, as well as her mother's domain of hedge magic, she has become the patron goddess of hearth magic or gastromagy, specifically nutritional gastromagy. Basically nutritional gastronomy with magic. Hearth mages, & even potioneers, pray to her for aid in the healing of others. While hedge mages, such as Irene & Syrup, tend to primarily worship her mother, Farore, they will also go to Karina for aid with potion-making.
Due to her domain of the hearth & home, she is also a very prominent deity for cottage magi.
It turns out that, completely beyond my knowledge, she actually has quite a lot in common with the Mayan Moon Goddess, Ixchel. However, for those who don't know anything about her, just compare Karina to a Venus & Vesta fusion. Maybe even a little bit of Athena & Artemis too. Anyway, this new development of her resemblance to Ixchel has inspired me to make Karina have encouraged the evolution & development of Remlits, which eventually resulted in the Zonai. I shall expand upon this later.
Anyway, she also has a minor connection to specifically weaponsmithing & jewelry-making. Though, these aren't things she's considered a goddess of, but being a goddess of art helps with this.
As such, her ability with the arts gave her an innate talent for blacksmithing. When she'd forge weapons, she would sing as she hammered the metal & inscribed it with runes or fastened gemstones to it that she'd infused with magic. Magic harmonizes easily with her voice, so doing this allowed her to more readily weave that magic together. This was a method of magical infusion which she & her brother had discovered that allowed the metal to resonate more readily with the magic. Thus giving more potent results. (Though, due to how shy her brother was, he often refused to infuse metal in front of others.)
These are the symbols that she was associated with:
Due to her magical alignments, she was heavily associated with the water, specifically the rain, oases, but most of all, the tides. This has resulted in the Gerudo referring to her as al'Wahē Vah'ma or the Oasis Mother.
While she is normally a friendly, loving, & compassionate goddess, she can be incredibly vicious & even vindictive & grudgemental with an anger as fearsome & wild as nature's fury. She was every bit as much a Tutelary Deity as her brother. The Sheikah refer to her as a Daikijugami or great ogre goddess & the Gerudo refers to her as a Dāvah'làra.
While mortals depicted her in many ways (as is normal), amongst the gods, she was known to wield a pair of Parazonium daggers & a pair of Hispaniensis Gladiuses. Both sets of weapons had a double helix design like her brother's Nijūrasen Zanbatō. She also used a double-limbed long-distance spellbow, which was a high-performance bow & put more power behind her shots.
The double-limbed bows of the Eventide Rito were modeled after hers.
And the winged heels that the Gerudo are known for, as well as the Pegasus Boots & Hover Boots of Hyrulean Legend (as hers did both), were somewhat inspired by her Pegasus Caligae. They had been a gift from Helios, God of the Sky. She used them to dash across the land or over waves, jump over excessively large gaps, & run & leap through the sky in a way similar to Hermes.
In Hyrule, she is depicted as having long, wavy, platinum blond or silvery-white hair that cascades down her back in waves, reaching to her ankles, ice blue eyes (that later turn a glowing silver upon mastering the Mind's Eye), flawless, tanned skin, & a pair of moth wings behind her ears. With facial markings similar to her brother's, but more curved & less jagged with burgundy eyelids that resemble eyeshadow; the stripes on her cheeks being burgundy instead of red & the stripes on her forehead, framing her shell mark, are aqua. And while not nearly as pronounced as her brother's, she does have sharper, longer canines than most human-adjacent races. Same with slitted pupils & sharpened nails. Both becoming more prominent, canines growing longer, slits narrowing, & nails elongating into catlike claws, when she's angry, though Hyruleans tend to portray her without them. As well as a second pair of arms beneath the normal 2. She is often wearing a simple string of pearls as a circlet with a gilt-edged scallop at the center & hanging beneath that, a teardrop-shaped Opalite Moonstone. She also wore a pink, one-shouldered Hellenistic Chiton with a golden-patterned border at the hem, a black & gold-patterned cloth belt, 2 pairs of sheer Greek arm drapes attached to gold cuffs, & a pair of simple gold sandals. Also depicted with a pair of daggers at her hips & dual shortswords crossed at her lower back. In battle, she was known for wearing an exomis tunic with a curiass over it, a diadem, gladiator sandals known as Caligae with wings on the heels, & instead with her hair pulled into a long braid.
Meanwhile, amongst the Gerudo, she's referred to a Vah Kàvtrïna & is instead often depicted as a gorgeous Gerudo woman with long, wavy platinum blond or silvery-white hair that reaches her ankles in a long, loose braid, icy blue eyes (that later turn a glowing silver upon mastering the Eyes of the Moon), & a dark, Gerudàn skintone despite her actually being just very tanned. Again, the curved facial markings, the ones on her cheeks being burgundy again & with burgundy eyelids that resemble eyeshadow with the stripes on her forehead that frame her shell mark being aqua. Though, they do tend to portray her being absolutely riddled with battle scars, which is actually much more accurate than her Hyrulean portrayals. Surprisingly, Gerudo also often portray her with her more animalistic canines, slitted pupils, claws on full display. Her 2nd pair of arms also makes it's appearance there. As well as being very prominently depicted with a pair of Kōmmyàr (curved Arabic dagger) at her hips & dual scimitars sheathed at her lower back. This is because, unlike in Hyrule, the Gerudo don't forget her warrior side & is often referred to as a warrior goddess by them. The Gerudo also tend to show her in a Shàrùnga & Aelaahàsil (a sarong & Gerudàn croptop), & a pair of Streshibpen (those winged heels that Gerudo are known for wearing), which Karina would find some issue with as she was generally a modest individual & would especially find the heels impractical in a fight. She didn't mind the Shàrùnga though. Conversely, she was also sometimes depicted in an Ànshibak Qàmpàto (a closely-fitted imperial-collared shirt with a boob window, this one having no sleeves), which she'd prefer. She's also shown wearing a Gerudo battle tiara & is sometimes depicted with a bow & arrow & Dune Leopards flanking her sides as she is considered a huntress & is often associated with the Gerudo race's perpetual pursuit of love & companionship. In battle, she manages to retain an exomis-adjacent outfit in the form of a Konchàq (A Gerudo version of an exomis), but her cuirass is swapped out with a Gerudàn demi-cuirass called a Nisdïre, with lovely Gerudàn patterns, on her head they put a Vallah'jï Tàj (goddess tiara, which are often even more ornate halo crowns than what Gerudo kings & queens wear), Àb'bīvten (sleeve weights/arm chains), Tzèxad'bīvt (hand chains), &, for whatever reason, she's stuck with the Streshibpen. Though, at least they had the magical wings that her Pegasus Caligae had. Doesn't make them any less impractical though...
- Interestingly, in Gerudo culture, she seems to also take much inspiration from Isis; specifically, from the version of her that is created when the idea of Serket being one of many aspects of Isis was introduced.
The Sheikah, who refer to her as Kariaina-no-Mikoto, depict her in attire reminiscent of Benzaiten or Kannon from Japanese myth. The Sheikah spell her name in a number of different ways. From 和人愛永 roughly translating to “a harmonious & eternal love of people/humanity.” To 花人愛永 meaning “a flowering eternal love of people/humanity.” Or 海人愛永 meaning “a sea of eternal love for people/humanity.”
As for the Faronites, they call her Kalina &, much like her mother had been long ago, she was depicted with a stronger influence from her floral alignment, though with definite influence from the sea.
She is also well-recognized in Ordonian religion as Karridwena, fae goddess of the moon, love's many forms, forgiveness, & inspiration. (Among other things, but I haven't thought that far ahead yet.)
However, to the Zonai, she is called Nantli Kuxnikte-ha & is often depicted similarly to the Mayan goddess, Ixchel, & is often referred to as Nantli Metzi or Mother Moon.
This is the closest I could get to how I wanted her to look for now.
And being a goddess of sex & vivifatility, as well as the daughter of a life goddess & a goddess of life, herself, that also tends to lead to her being depicted very... shapely. Which isn't incorrect, she is quite voluptuous, but she certainly wished that people would stop carving naked statues of her in compromising positions! Like, she doesn't mind as much if it's done artfully & tastefully. As there's a lot to learn about anatomy from drawing or painting or sculpting nude figures. Which, honestly, most of her more creative worshipers tend to do, thankfully. But not all of them unfortunately.
And what was with some of those proportions?! Why were people sticking watermelons to her chest as though it were perfectly normal???
Not that a lot did this, in fact, it's only a few of the creepier worshipers, but it's still not a comfortable position to be in!
As such, one of the things that she teaches is pudicity which originates from the Ancient Roman concept of pudicitia. Pudicitia meaning sexual virtue or chastity, which involves modesty & loyalty to one's partner.
---
While not a goddess of the ocean or even water, specifically, she is known for having a deep connection to them by virtue of her nature domain & magical alignment. The fact that she is a goddess of the moon also helps greatly.
Her main magical elements are Twilight (with a distinct lean towards Light, in particular), Nature, Water, Wind, & Life. Also has a natural inclination towards Music, Healing, Spirit/Soul, & Sex magic due to being a goddess of music, medicine, soulmates, & tender sex. She also tends to have a connection with the moon, thus giving her an affliation with the night. Which, the moon, gives her access to Twilight magic, which is considered a merging of Light & Shadow magic.
She has no real connection to death beyond being her brother's twin which itself gives her a degree of compatibility with many of his domains & vice versa. Part of the reason for this being that she is just generally more life-aligned as opposed to her brother who is more death-aligned. This mirroring diametricization is extremely common for godly twins.
She, like her brother, is a goddess of both balance, the moon, & twilight. Though while he presides more over the darker side of the moon, she presides more over the lighter side. As such, she is most commonly associated with the Waxing Gibbous Moon while her brother is more so associated with the Waning Crescent Moon. However, both are associated with the Full Moon & New Moon, just in different ways. The Waxing Gibbous Moon symbolizes a time of growth & progress, while the Waning Crescent Moon symbolizes the perfect time for rest & regeneration; a period of self-care; to find inner peace & reconnect with yourself, surrendering all that has happened that is out of one's control, before the lunar cycle begins again. Likewise, the Full Moon represents a time of release and completion, in many ways it's the culmination of positive energy after a period of work or effort. Furthermore, the New Moon signifies the beginning of a cycle. Sort of a cosmic reset. Considered the ideal time to set intentions & goals that one will develop as the moon waxes toward fullness.
At the same time, due to being duel deities of balance, they also have a certain degree of power over the other's domains. So, though Karina is mostly of light, she also has a good deal of power over shadow & Sheikaku is the same, though in reverse. This is partly what makes them both twilight deities.
---
Though she did not create the Sheikah, she still has a deep connection to them.
Instead, she actually elevated a group of Remlits, who eventually went on to become the Zonai.
---
Despite being a goddess who presides over the domain of sex, that doesn't necessarily mean that she is sexually deviant herself, so much as she has a natural & innate talent for it that surpasses normal means as well as having access to sexual magics. As well as being unnaturally attractive & charming. She's actually surprisingly modest (though very much not shy) & had only sought sexual relations on occasion during her time as Karina.
While she had yet to be married or have children, upon doing so in her new life, others discovered 4 more domains for which she ruled over: weddings, marriage, childbirth, & motherhood (or parenthood).
While it might be atypical, the fact is that some women are just more naturally predisposed to such things.
However, because she presides over sex, there tend to be whispers amongst the divinity, especially within elder circles. The fact of the matter is that most deities that rule over the more carnal domains do, in fact, have a tendency towards being more... promiscuous... Though that is actually, in large part, due to the inherent expectation placed upon them from those who would have relations with them & those who have heard of those dalliances.
This tends to result in a general assumption that such behaviors correlate with the domain in which a deity rules.
Luckily, Karina's parents, especially her father, as well as her twin brother & other siblings, kept her pretty well protected from such individuals & kept the fact that she ruled over such a domain a secret until she had grown enough to be able to take care of herself, make her own decisions, & defend herself if need be.
It wasn't until her 4th interaction with a god did her abilities get out & thus the rumors began to spread. (Though, many just assumed that she was simply a sex & fertility goddess.) However, the first time she was heckled by a chauvinistic prick who loudly & shamelessly made disgusting remarks, she quickly showed him what to expect if he ever said something like that to anyone ever again. As a goddess of righteous retribution as well as a defender of children & abuse victims, it qualifies her as a warrior goddess of protection, or a heroine goddess/Tutelary Deity.
Now, people only make such insinuations when she's out of earshot.
---
As a goddess of tender sexual relation, healthy relationships (platonic, romantic, or sexual), spirit, & healing, she founded the Hyrule equivalent to tantric yoga, as well as tantric sex & the Karmasutra. Though, even the sexual practices tended to focus on deepening the positive bonds between partners & healthy expressions of that love.
In this way, her teachings can get very philosophical & spiritual.

Her associated flower is the Lovely Rose (Hearty - +3♡ & Amorous), which had gone extinct on the Surface during the 1st Calamity & has only recently been rediscovered when someone attempted to bring Muddlebuds to the Surface.
She also has an affinity for the Sweetheart Orchid (Hearty - +1♡ & Amorous). Which are inspired by the Cupid Arrow Orchid from Gnomeo & Juliet.
While not particularly sacred to her, she is associated with the Passion Lily, but less so than Vah Gela, the Sand Goddess. The reason being that the Passion Lily is considered a holy flower to the Gerudo as it was the flower that the Gerudo were said to have burst forth from by Vah Gela. So, Karina is really only connected to it via name association & because she's been shown to have a fondness for it.
Likewise, she is known to also be associated with Valiant Gladiolus despite it not being sacred to her specifically. Likewise with the Blue Lotus among the Gerudo.
Her associated fruits are the Deya Peach (Energizing), Amorous Figs (Amorous), & Karina Fragria (Amorous) & her associated fish is the Hearty Sea Bream (Hearty - +7♡ & Amorous). The Karina Fragria having been named after her due to it being said that they first sprung up from the ground when she first fell in love.
Is known to greatly enjoy Abalone, which is why they often use them as incense burners in Faronic shrines.
Her other sacred animals are foxes, wolves, water birds & Marriage Doves (Jian birds), dolphins, hippocampi, Everlost Moths, as well as water/wind/moon dragons, specifically Kirin. (Dolphins aren't the rapists of the sea here.)
Amongst the Gerudo, her sacred animals are Dusttail Foxes, Everlost Moths, Dune Leopards, Sand Cats, & wind & water dragons. Also of interest, Sīmurghen are thought to be one of her sacred beasts due to the queen having been thought to have been good friends with Vah Kàvtrïna. (Sīmurgh are a part of Iranian myth. Look it up, it's pretty cool.)
She has other affiliations, but those don't matter at the moment.
She is also fond of the Satori Tree & its delicate blossoms as well as the tiny red cherries that it produces.

I've always found the many different forms of Greco-Roman love very interesting, so that's gonna extend here.
As such, Hyrule recognizes 13 different types of love total & this goddess presides over all 13 as a whole.
There is even an ancient book written by her followers, "Sacra Cupla" or the Book of Sacred Bonds, based on her teachings that instructs one on how to identify them, which ones are unhealthy, & describes how to balance one's relationships with others effectively without taking away from other relationships: Philia (Affectionate or Friendly Love), Storge (Familial Love), Pragma (Enduring or Long-Lasting Love), Romas (Romantic Love) & Eros (Sexual Infatuation) which are often paired together & tend to go hand-in-hand, Ludus (Playful Love), Mania (Unhealthy Obsessive Love), Philautia (Healthy Self-Love or Self-Compassion) & Narcissus (Unhealthy Self-Love or Narcissism), Himeras (Unrequited Love), Caritas (Selfless, Compassionate, or Generous Love), Xenia (The Guiding Love Between a Mentor & Mentee), Meraki (Love for What You Do or Passion for Work), & Zoísa (Love of Life or the Joy of Living; basically Joie de Viv).
While it lists 14 loves above, Philautia & Narcissus are considered 2 sides of the same coin & thus count as one.
Anyway, the basis behind this is that you can love many people, but you're not going to feel the same sort of love for everyone. And, in fact, if you do, then you might wanna go see a therapist.
She also asserts that one should only feel certain types of love for certain people. By this, I mean that incest is gross & so is pedophilia, which are both listed as cardinal sins in the Book of Sacred Bonds right alongside rape & infidelity. It's said that if you commit one of them, that Karina might curse you.
Of course, as one might guess, she is also a romantic at heart as well as a dirty shipper & an incorrigible matchmaker. Though, to be fair, her success rate is 100% accurate.
There are quite a lot of other things, but for now, this is a good enough explanation.

It is from her that the concept of soulmates came to be learned by mortals. However, it isn't so much that she created the concept as it is that she expanded upon the original idea & is known for being the love deity to have made the most discoveries into how soulmates actually worked.
Though, unlike in Twilight, the concept of soulmates follows a more fluid path here. In Twilight (Stephanie Meyers, not Twilight Princess), if you meet your soulmate, then that's it. You have to be with them whether you want to or not, whether you were already in a committed relationship or not.
My thoughts are, that's stupid. Entirely defeats the point of free will.
See, your soulmate is the person you have the highest potential for happiness & personal growth/spiritual maturation with. They are the person who will help you to expand your understanding of the world most. They are often quite different from you, but in a way that meshes really well with you. Think Yin-Yang. 2 pieces of a whole. Starkly different, but compatible beyond words or comprehension.
It's sort of a way to clear out the junk in the gene pool & refine the genetic sequence. In a way, I suppose that it's a more healthy & less inhumane form of eugenics due to only being a side-effect of the true goal & nobody dies because of it?
However, as a result of this, soulmates are never, ever blood relatives. Or at least are only related far enough down the line that it doesn't matter.
Your soulmate also does not change from life to life. It's always the same soul in a different body.
However, at the same time, you are not locked into them initially. At the end of the day, it is the individual's choice whether to pursue a relationship & if you choose not to, then that's that. There is a subliminal pull of sorts that encourages you in their direction, but again, in the end, it's the individual's choice.
You are also not always going to find your soulmate in every life, so by the goddess of love's decree, you have a subliminal list of people you are compatible with, with your soulmate at the very top & the person you are least compatible with, but who still registers as being compatible, at the bottom. And you can be happy with any one of them.
Another warning, just because 2 people are soulmates doesn't mean that everything is gonna be easy.
This is still a relationship & relationships are hard. So, in the end, it's up to the individuals involved if it succeeds or not.
It's difficult to nail down. Soulmates means that you mesh well together in a natural & organic way. But they are also the person that can hurt you the worst. So, in certain ways, relationships between soulmates are easier than regular ones & in other ways, they're harder.
And, something that a lot of people don't get is that, your soulmate isn't necessarily your soulmate because some higher power ordained it so. Rather, they're the person that you choose & you keep choosing them over & over again throughout multiple lives.
So, it's only half destiny. The other half is up to you.
Also, new souls can only be born from the union between soulmates.

Karina was originally worshiped in the Faron, Necluda, & Ordona Regions long before Hyrule expanded to include them. (Here, Ordona pertains to the Faron Grasslands, with Ordon being located within the Fural Plain, Haran Lake being the remnants of the Ordon Spring, Ibara Butte being where Ordon Ranch was & Ordon itself being positioned around the Lake of the Horse God.)
However, she has since been integrated into Hyrule's overall pantheon of gods & because of her presiding over the realm of love, she was quickly adopted by the Gerudo as well.
She's also worshiped in Eldin, but not to the same degree as everywhere else in Hyrule & her full range is only practiced in Shadow Hamlet by its non-Goron residents while Philia, Storge, Philautia & Narcissus, Caritas, Xenia, Meraki, & Zoísa are the only ones that really apply to Gorons…
Well, so does Ludus, but only because another way to indulge in Ludus is by going out & dancing with your buddies.
---
On a mortal level, some say that she is the eldest daughter of Farore, while others say that she's one of the Hyrulean twin gods of the moon. Others say that she was born on Tuft Mountain. And others still say that she came into this world at daybreak.
The truth is that these are all correct as Farore wished for her first children's first sight to be the one that Farore was most proud of having helped create. Lover's Lake is actually the site of Karina & her brother's birth. Unfortunately, what you're thinking that means is, in fact, most likely true... I'll leave it at that.
And Farore is also the mother of the Fierce Deity, Sheikaku, who is Karina's elder twin brother.
---
Though she is considered to be a symbol of femininity, she was actually quite the tomboy growing up & very much enjoyed hunting & camping with her family. Even before her disappearance, she is known for having enjoyed going on hunting trips with her father & brother, thus earning her the title of huntress.
Though, she did grow up to be a very feminine goddess.
However, upon her brother taking the mantle of patron deity of the then unnamed Hyrule, she worked alongside him to protect its people. While this would normally land her as as much of a figure of divine retribution as her brother, she did it for his sake & in order to share some of his burden, while he did it for the sake of the people he was sworn to protect. While Karina also did it to protect people, her primary focus to begin with was in aiding her brother.
Actually, it was during that period of fighting at her brother's side that she discovered her domains of righteous retribution & her place as a defender of children & rape or abuse victims; a Tutelary Goddess. The first time she witnessed someone being abused, she fell into an indescribable rage. The culprit was stricken down in an instant. That was when her mission suddenly shifted to include defending & avenging the abused.
Anyway, as a result, Karina is a very powerful goddess at a similar level to her brother, just focusing on different types of fighting. Mainly that of dual daggers & shortswords, archery, & magic.
She was also a very adventurous & outgoing girl, being the extrovert to her brother's shy introvert & was often known to drag him around into trouble.
Full of vim & vigor, she took to life with joy & enthusiasm. Never one to pass up the chance to try new things.
As an adult, she is considered the most beautiful of the Hyrulean goddesses & is considered comparable to Vah Amàhrta amongst the Gerudo pantheon, just in a different way.
Also, while not a goddess of dance, she loves to dance & very much enjoyed learning to from her adopted aunt, Din. (As, here, the 3 Golden Goddesses aren't actually related. Instead being such close friends that they form a sisterhood.) She also enjoys swimming.
And due to being a goddess of beauty, she also has natural talents & intuitions regarding things like art & fashion.
---
Interestingly, she was best friends with Gàlondo when they were children. Though, even back then he was cocky & arrogant, it was just more quirky personality traits back then.
Of course, that was before he was taken back to Jïasïd to be trained for war.
In truth, he'd had a massive crush on her even back then, but he never told her.
But, once he returned to become the first patron deity of the then unnamed Hyrule, it was apparent that he'd changed. Quite a lot in fact.
He began flirting with her, which at first wasn't a bad thing, but as he grew drunk off the power & control given to him, the flirting became less cute & more... concerning.
It became apparent that he lusted after Karina & wanted her for himself.
Then, he did something unforgivable & was stripped of his godhood, becoming a Daiyōkai of malice, darkness, hatred, & resentment. Thus becoming the Bringer of Demise.
And he began to show some deeply disturbing yandere tendencies towards Karina.
He began to make some seriously messed up & grossly sexual comments towards her.
Just being overall creepy!
---
None know this but the elder gods, but Karina & Sheikaku were once a single soul that had already reached enlightenment, & as a result was so powerful that it split in 2. The 2 have since become so independent that they have grown to have their own individual identities & would be unable to remerge without outside help.
None of the elder gods know why their original soul chose to remain attached to the earthly plane rather than move on to become a cosmic force, instead opting to split itself in two.
It is due to them originally being of the same soul that Karina & Sheikaku have an almost psychic connection with each other. It is due to this psychic connection that they shared a couple unique abilities.
One of which being able to take on attributes or crossing into the domain of their twin. However, despite being able to do this, they would not get as much benefit from it as they would if it truly were their domain.
It's also said that she & her brother could fuse into a single entity for a short time when they needed to. And while only the elder gods know this, it is due to them having once been of the same soul. And while no one knows this, not even themselves, they would likewise be able to do the same with their individual soulmates if they had a strong enough relationship & were in perfect synchronicity at the time. Though, they can only do this with each other & their soulmates. (This works almost the same way that fusion does in Steven Universe.)
Anyway, Karina is said to have disappeared at around the same time as her brother & hasn't been seen since.
---
In a way, I see Karina's spirit as taking over for Sheikaku's in their mortal lives when he grows especially tired from his Atlas-like responsibilities. Or sometimes joining him on his adventures as a Heroine.
However, whenever she simply joins, she often feels outshone by her brother as she doesn't even have a sacred sealing weapon of her own. She could never resent him, no matter the life, but it doesn't feel good either.
---
Karina is also said to be able to transform into a vae whenever she wishes much like Sāqmàla, the Gerudo High Goddess of Life, Vivifatility, & Sex, though she isn't nearly as well-known for it as Sāqmàla is. (Go to my Vae & the Spring of Talthïrï post if you want to learn more about vae. Warning, it's weird.)
In fact, this is only known due to her old boyfriend, Seasin, from way back when having been interrogated by an intermediate goddess of truth, Ronia. (Seasin & Karina had broken it off amiably long before her disappearance.) This particular goddess tended to express her power in the form of gossip mongering, thus becoming a goddess of rumors.
There's normally a law that magically keeps such truth magics by deities from forcing other deities to speak about other deities without the deity in question's personal permission.
However, due to the way in which Karina disappeared, she was no longer technically considered an active goddess &, as such, she didn't fall under the protection of said law. And Ronia, as the gossip of her pantheon, would know this. This, when combined with the fact that Seasin was only a minor god compared to Ronia's slightly more elevated stature, resulted in her being able to bypass the law without worrying about getting punished. She was still reprimanded though.
This is due to deities of higher standing being able to resist the powers of deities with lower standings much more readily.
Anyway, Seasin had thus been unable to lie or keep the truth from her (though he certainly tried) & had been forced to speak of he & Karina's times together. He was heteroromantic bisexual &, having heard of Sāqmàla's ability, had inquired if, as a goddess who also ruled over the domain of sex, if Karina could do so as well. Karina hadn't known, but she decided to give it a try. Turned out she could. This was how she discovered that she was actually a goddess of vivifatility like Sāqmàla, instead of just fertility like her mother & grandmother.
This information eventually spread to the mortals through Ronia's gossiping & the rest is history. Of course, the mortal version of the story has been sensationalized quite a bit.

SIGH so i’m done playing breath of the wild. i beat it about two weeks ago but i just now completed all shrines and sidequests. i thought about hating myself even more by trying to collect all 900 korok seeds but it’s not worth it just to have that 100% in the map screen (plus korok seeds stopped being useful a long time ago). i have 100%d all zelda games i own (except OoX) but i just can’t be bothered for this one.
having replayed all zelda games at least twice, i can’t say i will be doing the same for botw. here are my [long] thoughts about it (spoiler-free):
i can’t say i loved it. i think i was just playing just for the sake of playing it because....duh, it’s a zelda game (plus i sort of spent a crapload of money on the game+console). as a long-time zelda fan, it just...didn’t feel like a zelda game to me. i’m not opposed to change, in fact i was extremely excited to finally play this game, but the overall product just didn’t satisfy me at all. it just felt like a very dull and unfulfilling experience.
- the overworld. i kept saying it over and over in my head while playing this game: it’s just too damn fucking huge for its own good. and it’s boring as hell to traverse. there aren’t really that many interesting things to do other than look for shrines. oh cool you can climb that mountain way over there? for what? oh haha a korok seed. most of the time, nothing. good job. it just felt tiring and bothersome to explore huge empty spaces of nothing. horses aren’t very useful since most of the time i was warping to try to not bore myself from wandering around empty spaces. i replayed the original loz at least like 5 or 6 times and i absolutely adored exploring every corner of the overworld. botw’s? yawn snore zzzz.
- weapon durability. i mentioned it in an earlier post but i hope this is something that never comes back to a zelda game. it’s especially shitty when you beat a shrine and your reward is a weapon. oh, a weapon that will break after 20 hits or less. so your reward disappears instead of it being something useful that you can actually keep for the rest of the game. this might just be a personal preference but i just hated the weapon system, especially when you find out that the master sword and the hylian shield can actually also break instead of being able to use them infinite number of times (and don’t tell me “oh it’s because otherwise you would never have used any other weapon!” bc idgaf, frost weapons and spears are cool and i would have used them either way)
- the story. oh my god. i know this is supposed to be a throwback to the original zelda, where you can go straight and kill ganon, but my goodness....it’s 2017. how is it that we got such a barebones story?? when i finally got to zora’s domain i was excited. i was finally getting to the story. boy i was wrong. the game gave me zero reason to care about saving the world and its inhabitants (except the gorons, which i think were the greatest in this game). i fucking hate that the story is mostly told through memories. the worst part is, the story told through the memories is more exciting than the one you play through the game. i hate that we are told from the start “you have to save hyrule and the princess because um....you’re a hero, you just don’t remember haha! so GO!!!!” instead of showing me actual, emotional reasons to want to save these people. through the memories we just become spectators, instead of the story actually making us bond and feel something for the people we are saving (except, again, yunobo, who i will save 1000 times if i have to). not even princess zelda’s incredible character growth (which, once again, HAPPENS IN THE MEMORIES and NOT in the present) can save the story from being lackluster. i would talk more about this but then it’d take up the whole post.
- the music. i’ve also complained about it before, but it’s a fucking joke, especially since it’s a zelda game, which are mostly known from having really good soundtracks. for me, there are zero memorable soundtracks. i think i only liked two, the one where you are near a Tower and when you are near a shrine. even minecraft, a freaking indie game, had better ambient music than botw. exploring the overworld becomes 3600% more BORING because as you’re walking, all you hear is link’s footsteps and clanky armor. so the overworld becomes twice as empty because 90% of the time, there is no music. except the five random ass piano keys you hear from time to time. it’s just bad and it makes me sad. people seemed to have hated SS’s OST, but at least it gave us Fi’s Theme and the magnificence that is the Lanayru Sand Sea theme. now THAT’S music that truly takes you into the game and gives it the proper ambiance that the overworld tries to portray. botw? a sad, sad attempt. i’m honestly wondering what they will play during botw’s section at the symphony of the goddess’s tour.
- the sidequests. 90% of the sidequests are boring fetch quests and “kill this type of enemy plz”. it’s just boring and tedious and the rewards are a joke (mostly, rupees, materials which you can easily find ANYWHERE, or food). it’s time for zelda to step up in the sidequests department and give me good, engaging, emotional-investing sidequests that tell me more about a certain character, or which tell me more about the world, or overall just make me CARE about its inhabitans that i’m trying to save. MM is the king of sidequests and botw once again pales in comparison.
- the dungeons. the first one (Vah Ruta) was cool. then it got boring and repetitive, really fast. all the dungeons look identical. the dungeons are for the most part short. there are no enemies inside the dungeons except these flying skeletons that die with one hit. oh yeah and maybe a robot here and there. so there’s some enemies but nothing tough. the premise revolves around manipulating the dungeon by rotating it to discover new areas. so it’s like playing four Stone Towers from MM. Except i guess the Gerudo dungeon, which added an element of electricity (that was cool). but other than that, all of the dungeons are pretty much the same and after you’ve played one, you’ve pretty much played them all, which is sad because it takes away the element of surprise and “oh man i wonder what the theme of the next dungeon will be?”
- the enemies. the lack of variety is a joke. there’s like 4 or 5 types of bokoblins, which just differ in their color and strength. oh and that’s the same for octoroks, moblins, lizalfos, chuchus, lynels, and wizzrobes (which are a fucking joke in this game. remember when wizzrobes were actually tough in the original game?). oh crap, i’ve actually mentioned 90% of the enemies you will face in the game... i think in total there might be 10 or 11, which is PATHETIC when you consider how fucking huge the overworld is. sad sad sad.
- stamina is stupid and so is climbing. stamina was tolerable in SS because of those silent realms you had to beat: you had to be careful of running and climbing and wearing out your stamina because of those crazy-ass guardians. so it made sense because it adds a challenge to the silent realms. in botw, for a game that focuses so much on exploring and climbing, stamina becomes a hindrance that actually makes it annoying to explore the world. you better not run out of stamina while trying to climb that mountain over there lest you run out and have to start all over!!! joy.
- the graphics. can nintendo please try something else with zelda graphics now. don’t get me wrong, i loved TWW and SS, but....these cel-shading graphics (or whatever they’re called) are getting tiresome. i didn’t like how most of the time the game looks bloom-y and blurry af (it’s especially bad when it’s raining or snowing). people complained about TP’s bloom effects but i feel like botw’s light effect (or whatever the hell that causes it to look like someone just put 200% of brightness on an image using photoshop) really takes away from trying to enjoy the scenery and view that the game tries to offer. for the next game can we try something like hyrule warriors or tp or hell even mm 3d? thx.
- the rain. it. rains. so. fucking. much.
haha oh man i never realized how many things i didn’t like about this game. i think i’ll stop here and talk about the things i did like:
- the shrines. although i didn’t like how all of them had the exact same design, the puzzles in them were cool and very zelda-ish.
- the warping system. thank god there are so many warp points to traverse the overworld because otherwise i would have never finished this game.
- the clothes system. i really liked all of the costume options the game gives you, and the fact that you can change the color of the clothes. it takes me back to the OoT days except with more variety. very nice.
- the runes. i loved not having to worry about running out of bombs and the ice rune was very cool and useful: it’s like having infinite ice arrows from MM to make platforms on the water! also the puzzles that involved stopping time with the statis rune were awesome. oh and grabbing treasure from underwater with magnesis never gets old.
- yunobo. yunobo is pure and great and needs to be protected at all costs.
- lynels. for once, a deadly enemy you actually have to be careful with and prepare yourself with good strategy to beat. i remember when i saw my first lynel i was so scared to approach it. they gave lynels such a great treatment and it’s the same one that wizzrobes should have gotten.
- the variety of the weapons.
- revali’s gale. saved me from having to climb so many mountains with its gust that elevates you so high. also after 3 it re-generates in 5 minutes. a blessing.
- the towns. i loved how lively they look. it’s like clock town from mm and it’s great.
- princess zelda. great character development and she has become my second favorite zelda (behind ST Zelda which will always be the best [while oot zelda continues to be the worst])
summary: while i enjoyed some aspects of the game, overall it just was very tiresome and unfulfilling. for a game that boasted about being open world, the world itself was just so barren of interesting things to do and explore. exploring the world of Xenoblade Chronicles, a fucking Wii game, was way more exciting because the environment, story, and music had more to offer. if there’s one thing i can thank botw for, is that it re-awoke my love for zelda games such as TWW, TP, and SS, which i will probably re-play next. i’m all for evolving the zelda series, and i thank botw for trying, but i honestly hope this game will not be the new zelda formula to follow. PEACE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#zelda#botw#junk#wow i didn't expect this to be so long#but it just had to be done#this was very therapeutic :y#sigh#botw criticism

OH okay listen legend of zelda headcanon time. lots of spoilers from lots of different LoZ games below the cut.
the points i’ll be drawing from:
calamity ganon’s big pull on the world in Breath of the Wild is the “Blood Moon” right.
Demise is the source of Ganon’s power. And pay attention to the following from Zelda Wiki: “It is worth noting, however, that according to Fi, Demise appears differently to everyone who sees him.” and.... demise’s source of power is eating hylia’s power at the end of skyward sword, apparently.
Ganon is Ganondorf’s beast form only? i think?? happens when demise+triforce power comes into play.
regarding Link: “Miyamoto and Nintendo designers themselves pointed out several times that the focus of the series lies in the player's personal experiences and in the concept of "the player being the hero," with Link as his/her avatar.[31][32]In that way, he was made blank so the human player can fill him with his/her own characteristics, experiences, motivations, feelings, thoughts and emotions. While he is traditionally known as Link, even his name is chosen by the player.[33] This is in order to allow the player to enter this fantasy world and to have an intimate experience with it, and with those who live in it. So, the intention is for his role in dialog and plot to be filled by the words and thoughts of the player, to some extent. His speech is usually replaced with simple and concise answers that the player can pick.”
so i have... thoughts around these bits, but they have not coalesced into a coherent headcanon yet.
first, blood moon. that sounds. suspiciously. like menstruation to me.
the triforce comes from goddesses and is protected by a goddess and later by goddess-powered descendants & chosen ones
link is pretty androgyne. and i’m going with that rather than undifferentiated based on how pretty & handsome everyone canonly finds link
if ganondorf takes after link’s image of demise, then that paints a much more complicated picture of the triforce fated ones than i’ve previously thought
i have a half-formed headcanon about ganondorf being trans and that’s why it’s so rare that the gerudo have men but,,, then i looked at the implications,,,,,, and given that not everyone thinks of link as trans girl or genderfluid,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, well anyway that’s why it’s half-formed because that’s when i abandoned it
random thoughts inspired by this research:
i need to play Link to the Past and Minish Cap.
twilight princess’s zelda design is so forgettable compared to Midna and wolf link. like??? why????? and the only real brunette zelda too. shame.
i think i played phantom hourglass at one point, but have apparently forgotten most everything about it. why was it so forgettable???
what if fi had a more human-looking-form like ghirahim. i like to believe she’d be just as creepy but in a well-meaning way instead of intimidating haah
why is the imprisoned a muppet. one of the worst design choices ever i’m sorry it’s not even like that boss ‘challenge’ was ever fun either like??? whyyyyyyyyyy
i have now seen demise in a pin-up pose with bikini bottoms. thanks, internet.
apparently there’s an artist who does a lot of furry/anthro/feral? headcanons for LoZ characters. huh. of course that existed, but i never thought about it.
is hylia really a god or just like. a time-travelling phlebotnium scientist who was originally skyward sword’s zelda and then just fucked around with the timeline when she discovered/led herself to discover the time travel bit
