tl;dr: some science dorks poorly wrote a book about an interesting study but I’m too tired and grumpy to read it, much to my therapist’s chagrin

told my counselor I only read around 30 pages of a book he lent me to read for therapy. I’ve just been so overwhelmed with moving and depression and I just don’t feel like sitting down in my free time to read a book I don’t really have any interest in. Feels shitty, like I’m making excuses. I guess they are excuses. That’s not really a bad word, just a word that usually has negative connotations. Whatever, anyway, he kept telling me “there’s also an audiobook.” THEN LEND ME THE AUDIOBOOK! I’m not gonna pirate this book! I dont want to go sign up for a library card right now(I mean, yeah, I need to, just… ya know… takes a chunk of time I don’t feel like dedicating right now). Just… blegh. Definitely an insignificant problem in the grand scheme of things, but still annoying and still makes me feel like a failure.

It’s an interesting book, but the way it’s written feels so… basic. Like reading a high school english paper. I dunno, it just reads very amateurish. Really cool info and quotes, but just packaged so blandly. By-the-numbers sentence structures, like a student learning how to compose their first essay. “And then this happened. And then this happened. And then…” filler filler filler filler. Not that filler is bad, you gotta connect the info in a congruent way, but this is asbestos level filler! You’re padding it out with bad stuff! It’s making me sick! I told my therapist it was bland and he said “well, it’s a published study, so…’” and did that face like “what did you expect?” Listen, it’s not presented as a standard study! If it was just the facts with no flavor, I could understand that, I’d honestly like that a lot, but this book is presented as a self-help book wrapped in a (to me) very interesting story about the lives of multiple generations of seemingly random people, from adolescents to old age, and what they’ve learned about happiness along the way. You can make nonfiction books engaging, my dude! You’ve got this cool, generations long study on what it means to be happy, you’ve got a goldmine of compelling quotes and stories, and they still write a book that reads like a middle school text book! Bland flavor! Like plain mayonnaise! There’s no zazz! They needed to hire a ghost zazzer!

Also, not a fan of self help books. No matter how helpful, my brain just always lumps them into the category reserved for being told “just go for a walk,” “try to think positive.” Yeah, all good info, but it never clicks with me. Like the the quote, “there’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.” My therapist even says I don’t react to being told this stuff, that i actually have to experience it and learn it first hand. But still… he hands me a 300 page self help book 😕 ah well, whatever…

Anyway, I’m probably wrong in my review and I’m a fraud and secretly, unknowingly, actually hate books 🤷🏻‍♂️

a lot of the house fandom feels somehow emboldened to repeat racist/sexist/antisemetic jokes just because it was in the show. it is strange. i need you to realize that when you repeat these jokes they aren't just "jokes from the show" they are jokes with under(or over)tones of bigotry, and they are not devoid of these tones just because they're in reference to the show's text. you're still saying bigoted shit even if said bigoted shit is a reference. just. be more aware of what you're saying. do better!!

So uh, I drew this tonight

It was just based on me seeing this post on Twitter about how these two characters from Godzilla x Kong are basically Orion Pax and D-16 in another universe, and then me saying someone should redraw the characters in the screenshot as them

And you know, since I can draw, I might as well do it myself

But then I immediately forgot that it was specifically dpax I was meant to be drawing, and drew their final Optimus and Megatron forms instead. Oh well

I haven’t seen Godzilla x Kong, so I have no clue who these original characters are or how much they fit. But I do know Brian Tyree Henry plays one of them and this is the movie that his quote “I’M GONNA KISS YOU ON THE MOUTH” comes from, so I have to assume it works. I also have no context on this scene I’m redrawing itself

I’m mixed on how the art turned out honestly. On one hand, I think someone absolutely could have done a better job, and probably a better version would have the two more closely resemble the original characters, like wearing similar clothes and/or making them human. I’m aware I’m only decent at drawing Transformers at best (outside of when I try really hard, which is rare) and I’m aware I probably misinterpreted the vision, I just did it because I thought someone should, even though I don’t think I got it

But like, I still kind of enjoy how the final product came out, I think it was pretty good by my standards. I still don’t know how to draw the TF One bots very well and I think yet again, Megatron ended up looking the worse, but I still think it turned out reasonably well. I also liked giving them those bright colors in the Overlay, Screen and Multiply layers; I wanted it to be colorful and it was (even if the colors are I think wrong, they’re supposed to be more orange/red)

It also wasn’t all that bad having a canvas size and having to draw a lot bigger than I usually do, I feel like the lineart in particular got to shine because of that. I also used my Marker Pen here, for no real reason other than I haven’t used it in a fair bit

But uh yeah, this thing I made. Hopefully in this universe they are not doomed

Edit: I did a little bit of modification on the art, namely fixing a bit more of the background (best I could), and changing the blending of the pupils to make them brighter, since I remembered they’re supposed to be lights, so they should shine

For some reason Eclipse gives me major Slug vibes?? Maybe it‘s cuz of the squish of the head/quill/tentacle thing.

Wether this is a compliment or not depends if Eclipse is secretly an eleven year old boy out on his first bug hunt.

When it comes to Eclipse I actually got the idea of mixing up different shapes for him but his main inspo has always been anemones and black slugs. Those slugs. Yknow the ones. The one that's big and black and looks like it's tar but come to life. Yeah that one.

I think Black Arms have a sort of plant-like thing going on under all that exoskeleton (how else can they reproduce asexually??? RIDDLE ME THAT!) so i can pretty much play around with shapes and anatomy. it's always been my favorite thing since i've started drawing the characters

“this show is making me like the men more” when the shows literally been setting this up from ep1. they literally eat people did you think they WERENT going to lose their morals more and more as the show progresses? did you think the hunting scene in season 2 was the worst it got and not the beginning of their descent into violence and horror? i feel like i’ve entered some alternate universe because half the complaints about season 3 make no sense to me and i just think a lot of you need to stop watching the show and just stick to reading fanfic or something because a lot of the complaints just sound like you dont like the season bc its not going the way you made up in your head

AND HERE’S THE KICKER. you have a little sister who royally sucks at everything you’re good at. she’s not good with swords, she’s not good at leading, she doesn’t do well on the front lines. but by gods she’s pretty. she has those cute little ringlets and those big blue eyes and that petite figure, and when alice comes to town she takes one look at your sister and says she could be an idol. she could have her pretty little face plastered on billboards across the continent if she wanted. and so she picks up this idol gig and people start lining up to see her. they form a fanclub, they send her gifts, they ask her out, they scream her signature chant at concerts

and you’re not self-centred enough to think that you’ve earned everything you’ve ever gotten. you know your family and your noble blood have opened doors for you that wouldn’t be open for anyone else

but it hurts a little bit, you know? your sweet little sister has the only thing you’ve ever been unable to achieve - and what’s more, she got it through no effort of her own. and you can’t even resent her for it because it’s not her fault you’re plain, but it still rankles, because she’s an idol and she’s beautiful and people love her, and no matter what you do, no matter how hard you work and how many people you help, you’ll always just be plain old jean. and nothing will ever change that

on the other had i really wish that more posts at the top of the tag were SPECIFICALLY about Aplatonisism. rather than most of the top posts being about A-spec identities in general
