September 9th

Emu's birthday, a special day and a very special day, at that. As the happiest girl in the troupe, Emu deserved only the best of birthday celebrations. Everyone had given Emu such lovely gifts. From the cookie Wonder Stage kit to the Wonder Stage transformation kit, Emu loved all of the presents her classmates had given her.

Rui and Tsukasa had both put on a mini performance for Emu, all of the Virtual Singers had done a fun play for her, and even Emu's own family had fun things in store. There was still one person left who hadn't given a gift to Emu though, one who still attempted to find a gift to give to Emu.

Nene struggled practically all day thinking of what to gift Emu for her birthday. The more she thought about it, the more she felt bad for being indecisive about her gift. She had done a lot of her original ideas with Emu already, and didn't want to see repetitive or unthoughtful.

Nene had almost lost hope at this point, feeling terrible for not having thought of anything. She was about to give up, but something had stopped her from doing so.

"Nene?"

Nene jumped slightly, immediately looking to her phone as she had noticed Miku's confused look. She'd recompose herself, taking a deep breath as she spoke up.

"Miku...-?! Is everything okay? That scared me quite a bit..!"

"Hehe, sorry, sorry! I just couldn't help but notice how stressed you look right now. Is something wrong, Nene?" Miku frowned a little as she listened intently to what Nene might say.

"Well,..." As Nene told her everything about how she had felt when struggling on a gift for Emu, Miku seemed to have an idea. She'd relay said idea to Nene, who thanked Miku for the help.

After Miku left, Nene would text Emu and ask her to come over. With Miku's idea in mind, Nene knew exactly how to make Emu's birthday a worthwhile experience for the two of them.

"Wooaahh! Thanks for inviting me over, Nene! Your room is so cozy-wozy, hehe!" Emu exclaimed in unexplainable happiness as she looked around the songstress' bedroom.

"Of course," Nene spoke with a soft smile, setting herself down on the bed. She remembered what she had planned with the help of Miku, before speaking up.

"Aah, Emu? Could you come over here really quick? It's something reeeaaallly important!"

Emu perked up at the request, a radiant smile on her face as she nodded and rushed over next to grayish-green haired girl. She'd tilt her head slightly, waiting for Nene to speak up once more.

Instead, Nene just wrapped her arms around the cheerful girl in a gentle but firm hug. This action grew Emu's confusion as she noticed the warm, yet playful smirk on Nene's lips.

"Nene? What are you- EEP! Wahahaha! Nehehehene! Thahat tickles!"

Nene chuckled fondly, murmuring softly as her nails gently skittered across Emu's sides with ease. "Hehe, it tickles? Well, it's supposed to, silly! That's the whole point!"

"Nehehehe-Nene! Wahahahahaha! Nohohoho!"

Emu flailed her arms slightly through surprised and squeaky giggles, not necessarily fighting back. Her giggles got a little louder once Nene had glided her fingers over to Emu's ribcage, which the songstress took notice of.

"Is this a bad spot, Emu? Is it too much?" She'd ask fondly, no hint of malice or playfulness since she didn't want to go too far or overstep any boundaries. Nene's smile returned when Emu shook her head in happy giggled, although she did eventually let up after another minute or two.

"Hehe, you're so silly. Was it okay?" Emu would immediately nod in response to the question, still slightly giggling as Nene giggled along for a little bit.

"Mhm! Hehehe, thank you Nene! Thahat was soho wonderhohoy!"

"You don't need to thank me, it was actually Miku's idea. I was kind of struggling on a gift, so I had asked her for help."

Emu felt her face light up, even happier than earlier. She'd immediately hug Nene back, smiling brightly.

"Hehe! But I still wanna thank you though! It was a lot of fun!"

The grayish-green haired songstress felt her heart melt, bringing a hand up to playfully ruffle Emu's hair as she spoke.

"I'm glad you had fun. Happy birthday, Emu!"

Since you uploaded that MMJ Miku beta design, do you know if there are other beta designs of the characters?? I'm curious since there's a little bit of concept art of project sekai.

Ah well project sekai featured in this one issue of a Japanese magazine called CG WORLD which is where I got that art from. That magazine is more focused on the costume designs though but it does have some concept art, but aside from WIP costume designs using the final character designs, all of it is blurred out unfortunately.

You can find some WxS beta designs, a Shiho beta design and some low quality MMJ beta designs out there (not entirely sure how people found these, I think they were left in a beta release and got datamined), but that’s all the unblurred stuff you can find.

And there are no VBS beta designs available. There’s some WIP costumes for Akito, Kohane, Miku and MEIKO (i posted her one ages ago), but there’s no actual concept art of them available anywhere.

I can go through what we do have though because they’re probably too low quality for me to post as an actual fact.

So these three images were in the CG WORLD magazine. You can tell who the members of Leo/need are based on the instruments (L->R: Saki, Honami, Ichika, Shiho, Miku), and MORE MORE JUMP! (L->R: Miku, Haruka, Airi, Minori, Shizuku) isn’t too different from the final designs aside from Shizuku, who’s blonde (probably because Shiho is). Niigo is harder to identify outside of Kanade and Miku. This art was also uploaded on TCRF and whoever put it there said that Mizuki is the brunette, Mafuyu is the one sitting next to Kanade and Ena is the one in the purple cardigan. It's not stated who is who in the magazine.

And here’s some actual beta assets. You’ve got WxS and Miku (there's two people in the back) here. Emu didn’t really change much aside from the eyes, but other than her...? (I edited this since it was posted don't mind the change)

We have the leader, who is literally just a palette swap of Rui's initial 2* with Tsukasa's face (excl the eye color which was given to Rui) and hairstyle. Possibly Tsukasa bc leader, possibly Rui bc design, possibly a scrapped character who was split in two

There's someone in the back behind leader boy and blonde girl wearing a pink-purple shirt and white jacket with a yellow tie. Clearly their color palette was used on Rui later down the line. Other than that there's nothing we can tell about this character, not even their gender. Possibly Rui, possibly Miku, possibly a third character who was scrapped/reworked

We have blonde girl, who's hair color and eyes seem to have been reused for final Tsukasa. Usually this is assumed to be Nene due to not resembling any finalised designs for the most part. I think she was probably scrapped, or heavily reworked and became Nene with some design elements passed onto Tsukasa (or Tsukasa was a girl?)

And in the back behind Emu is a girl in a green blazer and grey skirt that looks like a school uniform. Maybe this is Miku because the costume doesn't really match with the others? She doesn't have pigtails though, but no one here has pigtails. There's literally nothing identifiable about her.

Whoever these people are there were clearly a lot of changes made to WxS and these might not even be Nene/Rui/Tsukasa. That's definitely Emu though.

And here's a gacha bg and live bg demo for MMJ. The screen on the first image seems to be displaying a less-blurred version of their concept art. For the record, the illustrations in the second screenshot are from idolm@ster, they are not MMJ concept designs, but part of Shizuku can be seen to the right of the pink haired girl.

Possibly might've been named RE:START given the neon lights in the second image. Has some backing: their first event was called RE:START from Here!, and NaytalieN said in an interview that there was extremely little development on MMJ outside of character illustrations when he was commissioned for that event (and a couple statements imply the game was still in fairly early development too). Or it might've just been a catchphrase for the group or something.

And this. High quality beta-Shiho. This was used as a placeholder card art (surprisingly finished for a placeholder) for MMJ!Miku’s initial card, which by the way, looks exactly the same as the final version only it hasn't been finished yet. I’m pretty sure this is Shiho and not Shizuku because of the side ponytail and image color. But Miku is wearing a similar costume to the one in the MMJ concept art. I mean it was marked as placeholder and was not intended for use, it doesn’t really have to make sense. Also what seems to be a costume for Miku based on this card was left in the game and is on TCRF I added the screenshot below.

I haven't finished translating the CG WORLD article yet, but there's not a huge amount dedicated to character design, as I said earlier it's mainly about costumes. What I can tell you though is that VBS and WxS apparently took longest to finalise, specifically Akito and Tsukasa.

I know I'm late I’m so so sorry, I couldn't finish it before your bday bc I got sick and I was high on NyQuil, and then I wanted to change like everything that I wrote, but here we are!!

ALSO I LITERALLY could not decide between MizuKana or RuiNene. I went with RuiNene (you may recognize this draft. Or you may not) and this is so sappy and cringe, they're troubled middle schoolers here what can I say 😭 Hope you like your awfully belated gift!! (I have the MizuKana one in my drafts, might post it later)

Nene stared at the side of Rui’s head, listening to his fingers tap on the green wooden table. The smell of ash seared her nostrils from the kitchen adjacent. Slowly, he turned to face her with a sideways expression.

“Sorry, Nene.” He pulled his fingers through matted purple hair, snagging on tangles. A smile crept guiltily onto his face. “I think I burned the rice.”

Nene just sighed and pushed her laptop out of the way. “It’s okay, Rui.” She really shouldn’t have trusted him with such a complicated meal. Especially after seeing his attempts to modify the rice cooker.

“Ah, at least we still have lots of soda candy!” He threw a handful at her as if they were rose petals.

Nene managed to catch one, which was impressive enough. “We must be doomed to never eat healthy.” Fidgeting with the wrapper, she freed the candy and touched it to her tongue, letting it fizz on her taste buds.

Rui laughed, rather pathetically, and his eyes trailed down to his lap. Nene glanced at him, then down at her homework, worrying her lip.

Rui was… well, Rui was as usual, these days. He used to be the only person Nene could talk to comfortably, now the air was cold and heavy, even with him.

She knew Rui had a hard time feeling normal. Even now, in middle school, his classmates still thought he was eccentric, dangerous even, and it was getting to him. Nene could feel he was slowly fading. Or maybe it was she who was drifting away.

Either way, what they were had changed since she joined her troupe, and she was lost on how to help him.

Nene stood to throw the candy wrapper away, passing behind Rui’s chair. She’d never been so conscious of the space around her in his house; it had always felt like an extension of her home.

The tension must have affected Rui too, as he fussed with the strands of hair that had escaped his short half-up ponytail. He pushed them behind his ear, only for them to fall into his eyes again. After watching him struggle for a few beats, Nene huffed and pulled his hand away.

“You’re getting it messy.” Combing through knots that had coiled around the hair tie, Nene gently loosened his ponytail. She put the tie around her fingers and started to gather his hair in the back.

Rui stilled at her touch, and his hands settled in his lap. “Thanks, Nene.” His leg bounced against the weirdly colored tiles that Nene had always made fun of.

You should take better care of your hair. The remark stuck on her tongue. Of course. I care about you. Nene’s mouth felt dry. All she could manage was a weak hum.

The silence dragged on. Nene began to question what she was even doing, clammy hands only mussing up Rui’s hair more.

As she pulled some of the wispy hairs on his nape into the bundle, Nene’s nails skated across his neck unintentionally. A yip and a shiver from Rui alerted her.

“Sorry, did I scratch you?” Nene shifted to look at Rui’s face. His eyes were squeezed shut and his mouth crooked. When Nene dragged a finger over his ear to tuck a hair behind it, he made the same squeaky noise.

As though a door had opened and a fresh breeze swept into the room, a smile pulled at Nene’s lips. “Aw, you’re still ticklish?”

Rui’s eyes popped open with a look of mild fear. “Uh… no?” he said, like a liar.

“Uh huh. Sure.” Nene flicked her nails up and down his neck. Rui jolted like he’d been shocked.

“EEHehey! Neneheaha!” he shrieked. He hiked his shoulder up to his cheek and tried to reach for Nene’s quick fingers.

Nene chuckled by his ear; Rui’s real laugh was far more boyish than his personality would make it seem. “I forgot how much you sound like a fox.” She wormed her fingers under the collar of his shirt, making him yip again and proving her point.

“I dohohon’t! Ahaha Neneehee! Nahat the eheahahears!” He shook his head, melting against the back of the chair.

Nene sighed fondly. “I’m just talking, Rui,” she breathed while she leaned in closer to his ear, now red and warm. “Your ears are too sensitive.” He wailed and rubbed his ear on his shoulder.

Nene’s hands scaled down his spine and crawled between his shoulder blades. Rui barked and jumped, scrabbling for her assailing digits and pleading for a timeout. Nene ceased only when he threw his head back over the top of the chair, and she was exposed to the full display of his broad smile and rosy cheeks.

Becoming aware of the smile that had grown on her own face, Nene quickly wiped it away.

Once Nene unhanded him, Rui slouched forward until his head landed on the desk. “Ha… Nene, you’re crueler than you look.”

“Sorry.” She rested her hands on the back of Rui’s chair. “I guess I just haven’t heard you laugh in a while… I missed it. A little.”

Rui hummed, surprised, and Nene felt her face grow warm. “Is that so?” He sat up and turned around to grin at her. “Hehe, the same goes for you!”

“Huh?” Nene tilted her head.

Rui wiggled his fingers, so childish but somehow… “I haven’t heard you laugh in quite some time either.” Rui dug into her sides, squeezing and squishing. Electricity that fizzed from his rough fingers like soda candy shocked a squeak out of Nene. She curled into herself and dissolved into bubbling giggles.

“N-Nohoho! Ruhuhihihi!” Nene lightly gripped Rui’s wrists, trying to squirrel away from the hands scribbling up her sides. A fuzzy feeling flooded her nerves as she squealed and laughed more heartily than she had in a long time.

“There it is, the laugh of a little mermaid.” A cat-like smirk lifted Rui’s face. “Are you still ticklish here, Nene? Here too? Oh wow, I’m barely moving my fingers and you’re laughing!”

“AHAhaha! Ruhuhihi you suhuhahahuck!” Nene shoved at his face and kicked at his knees. She managed to hit him once, and he winced as though really in pain.

“Ow ow ow, that hurt!” He pouted ridiculously. “You’re such a meanie, Nene.” Evilly, he kneaded his fingers into her ribs, and Nene squalled and tightened her grip on his wrists.

Her face was warm with joy, and her ribs were starting to hurt from her laughter. “You’rehahaha the mehehehean one! PffftaHA hypocrihite!” Her knees buckled and she fell to the ground, finally escaping Rui’s evil fingers.

Heaving in air, Nene clutched at her ribs. Rui laughed at her from above.

“You’re winded already?” Rui smiled. Nene whacked at his leg.

“You’re, hah, no athlete either.” As she shifted to glare up at him, she found Rui kneeling in front of her, wearing a candid smile and a glimmer in his canary-yellow eyes that spoke of nostalgia.

“Nene,” called Rui, suddenly solemn. “Did I tell you how happy I was for you when you joined that theatre troupe?” He glanced down and bumped their knees together. “You made your dream come true.”

Nene inhaled. She counted the clover patches on her cardigan sleeve and picked at a loose thread. Breathing out, she faced Rui directly. “It’s thanks to you. If… If I hadn’t met you, I wouldn’t have fallen in love with theatre.” I’m sorry I left you alone. Rui looked up at her. Nene found herself staring into the same eyes she’d known since childhood. “It’s our dream.” You’re not alone.

Then their eyes broke apart. Eye contact was too much for either of them.

Rui laughed. “Well, when you put it like that...” He brushed back his loose hair, which Nene realized she had forgotten to fix.

She giggled. “Your hair. You need to cut it.” She reached for a lock and tucked it behind his ear. Instantly, Rui stiffened then melted into the ground, squeaking and giggling at the simple touch.

“Neneheheehee! You’re beheing a buhuhully ahahagainaha!”

“I’m not even doing anything,” she said, fluttering her nails against the shell of his ear.

As she laughed in tune with Rui’s cadence, Nene forgot to worry about how small the space they shared was. All she cared about was this pocket of time that belonged only to them.

so! for the 2dmv! it's in the style of a 3dmv with like a general stage-y dancey area and blah

yes. we torture rui. that. that's like all there is.

emu, nene and miku are all in slightly altered green workout project diva (?) outfits with different details and stuff i guess (but they all have to match cuz cohesive set thingy.)

so from the beginning of the song to around the end of the first chorus we're in the wondershow sekai, with rui sat at a table, refusing to eat his vegetable filled bentou. nuh-uh. no way in bahooey. and emu, miku and nene are just walking around him as. the po pi po cult, tryna get him to eat his food. oh also meiko rin len and luka have rui at tazer-point so if he ever tries to run off he'd probably go bbbrzrzZRRZRZRZBZRZBZRZBRZRZRZBZBRZRBZRBZRZZZZZZ (yes, in bold)

and then around after the first chorus, kaito leads tsukasa to the main area and he's like. what's going on. and then he sees the table, rui and the vegetable-filled bentou. ohhhhhhhhhhhh. but instead of joining the po pi po cult he goes sits at the table with rui and tries to coax him into actually eating his vegetables.

(for the whole thing the camera focuses on the po pi po cult, but from here rui and tsukasa argue in the back. like look. "but they taste disgusting!" "but they're good for you!" "have you even felt the texture of those disgusting things?" "just eat it TwT" "let's kiss" "sur... sTOP DISTRACTING ME")

and yeah after that exchange of dialogue we focus on more po pi po cult!! in the choruses there's going to be. flying vegetables and like vegetable juice carton box thingy cutouts cuz we have to push the theme or something

and po pi po cult is surrounding the oddballs (mainly 2) and yk. pushing him to eat the vegetables.

and then around the second chorus in the back tsukasa goes "*sigh* okay fine. if i kiss you will you eat your vegetables?" but rui only heard kiss so they go at it (woo.)

but then but then!! (for some reason i feel like he sounds like nene here if she wasn't part of the po pi po cult) near the end, (a very flustered, tomato-red) tsukasa's like "okay. now eat your vegetables." "eh?!" my opinions on the project sekai redesigns

our kids are growing up and entering a new year in high school, which means that they now have completely new designs because thats how idol gacha rhythm games work!!! woo!! and i have Thoughts

#5 - MORE MORE JUMP!

ohhh my sweet girls, my precious girls, what did they Do to you.

the blue looks So bad on them. it clashes with minori and airi and feels too samey with shizu and haru. i like their shoes, tho, and i like how airi keeps her trend of her outfit straying just a little bit from the norm.

these outfits just feel so boring and lifeless, compared to their og ones that had a lot more personality and a lot more charm. i dont think the dresses themselves are ugly, in fact i find them quite pretty, but i dont think they suit the girls very well.

also what the fuck is miku wearing lmao (i like her hairstyle tho)

i like all the girls hair accessories tho they’re cute

i hate ranking them last because i love mmj so much but yeah im very disappointed and i honestly prefer their canon outfits that they wear while performing not in the sekai (the ones that their fans helped design in the metamo re:born event that i forgot the name of)

firstly i wanna say im so happy that honami gets to be pictured with her instrument like the others, and i really like how they positioned saki’s keyboard

i dont hate these designs!! i quite like them actually. they seem more unified and professional, which fits because leo/need is SIGNED with an AGENCY now oh yeah im so proud of them

im sad that ichikas wearing her tie now rip ichikas tie around her wrist you will be missed by me and me only

i really like their new outfits!! the girls look and feel older. im not really vibing with the shade of gray used tho, i wish their uniforms were black or white or a different shade of gray. i also love the pins and buttons on mikus jacket (i actually prefer the shade of gray on the jacket why couldnt the leoneeders be dressed in that shade)

i really love wondershos new look, i just like the other two groups better. nene’s in particular is my favorite (but im biased). i love how professional they look, these new outfits really display this new step that the kids are taking into the world of theatre

yeah, i was surprised too at how much i like the vbs designs

i like vbs, sure, but they’ve always been the group that has piqued my interest the least. and ive never been super keen on the designs of the characters

but these designs??? i really like them. a lot. it feels like the kids are really coming into their own, with kohane and toya finding their personal styles, akito refining his, and an paying homage to nagi in hers. they’re becoming the young adult creators and musicians that they’re striving to be. i can really see vbs’s growth in their new designs, and i hope that i can grow to really love them and their story : D

the hologram appears for a second before it flickers out. rui frowns, he taps his earring, which returns with a low beep. he surmises as much: it was an unauthorized broadcast; he needs to fix the security on his devices; and he has no way to reply.

he puts it out of his mind before returning to the present. mizuki was holding onto a flash drive, looking determined. he had said that the rest of the group could come inside, but mizuki made it clear that it was a quick visit. he didn't blame them. with their group's big debut coming up, they couldn't risk exposing their identities too early.

it seems like they hadn't noticed the announcement, if it was even visible to them at all. he considers this.

"rui," mizuki reminds him.

"sorry. same time?"

"you know it."

he nods. just before they leave, he ruffles mizuki's hair. they fluster, annoyed, saying that it took them the whole morning to actually get it looking manageable today, which rui calls bullshit since their hair never looks out of place.

they manage to swat rui's hands away and leaves after an extended moment of making faces at him. he laughs, and returns to his tinkering.

the shop is silent save for the din of the outside. shibuya's streets are a loving clamorous symphony accompanying the way he assembles his machinery. he lets himself get lost in it.

creating something wasn't so much of a struggle in the assembly. he had a harder time thinking of how, exactly, to do it. most of the time he was struck the moment he saw its need, but when he was bored, he would fall into dips and slumps. of course, this is where music came in.

his penchant for music isn't known to most. he had been anonymous for most of the time he was active, and only nene really knew about the shit he got up to because he couldnt help but ask her to listen just in case something sounded wrong.

it's a mystery why VSyn wanted him in. he heard rumors of course — the collective who only looked for the best. literal legends were made from their ranks. recruitment was limited to a small pool the few times they decided to open their doors. that aside, nothing was known much about them, not even their selection process.

whether the announcement was real or not was not an issue. once doors opened, they found you or you find them. even if he was to disregard it, they'd find a way.

the tinny bell at the door is not enough to draw his attention away from his work, but a wry, "you look busy," gets him to say back, "aren't you in need of a break?"

nene doesn't say anything. he hums, waiting.

as usual, she breaks first, swinging herself onto the only chair reserved for customers. he looks up at her. she looks quite despondent before reaching into her bag to pull out her handheld.

"you messed with the thumbs too much again?" he takes it from her hands, looking at it. indeed, it was a little loose. "i could make a few more improvements-"

"who knows what you'll do with those improvements," she replies. "just help me, please."

"alright, alright."

she wasn't much for conversation, usually, but after a moment, she adds, "i saw emu, earlier."

"did you, now?" rui lets the silence build. nene knows he won't give this time, and she lets him.

"she said she really, truly wanted you and her brothers to get along."

he winces. emu and her good intentions. but her brothers have been more persistent about him and his tech, and he really doesn't want to let them know more about him than he's willing. it had been months since he accidentally slipped and talked about phoenix's vulnerable security within their earshot, and emu gotten even closer to what he had once buried.

"can't you?" nene insists, meaning more than just emu's brothers.

he could. he really could, but what was the point? hardly anyone looks up these days. their attention was caught like a rat on their devices and holos. he could hardly cross the street without someone accidentally bumping into him because they were fixated on their screens. plus, it had been a long time since his bots had last seen the light, and he had been tempted to take them apart for parts.

"maybe," he settles. "that's up to our star, isn't it?"

she scoffs. he could picture her swinging her feet. "right, our wonderful star, still stuck on his piano?"

"nene," he chides gently. he doesn't say anything more. he has nothing to say in defense. she doesn't look convinced, but refrains from saying anything else.

after a moment, he says, "i know you're worried—"

"we're all worried," she snaps. her mouth was set in a grim line. "i saw him with hoshino the other day, and all he could do was rave about his stupid virality."

ah, not good. emu was the one who suggested the performance, but nene was the one who cajoled tsukasa into actually performing. rui was the one who set up the whole thing, blinded by the need to make his actors shine in every circumstance.

(in that sense, isn't that what a director was supposed to do anyway?)

in any case, it was still a sore spot for all of them, especially with how tsukasa had been dissatisfied with their group performances, and had stopped showing up to practice. he hadn't been able to make a dent in tsukasa either. his eyes were starry, but dimmer. rui had told him to stop by the shop if ever he needs help, and he's yet to drop by.

it's been two months.

rui changes the subject before his thoughts get too carried away.

"did you know vSyn is recruiting?" it's too obvious, but nene is always easily distracted by talk of it.

nene startles upright. before she says anything, he puts her handheld before her. she tests the joysticks, listening to the clicks in satisfaction before putting it back in her bag. she then takes out a stick of gum and hands it to rui. he takes one.

making a face at the strong grapefruit flavoring, he says, "unusual."

"you lack taste."

"your taste is quite unique."

she glares at him. she's not quite looking at him, though. he follows her gaze and lands on a small blocky tulip made of yellow lego. it looks horrible and garishly bright. he tries to ignore the itch in his ears and chucks a pair of extremely pink cat paw thumb grips at her. she catches it with a bit of fumbling, and when she realizes what it is, flushes red.

"… i won't say anything if you don't."

"a fair trade."

A very thorough; very long analysis of Tsukasa's latest card.

I first want to preface this by saying thank you to Tsukasa for coming in only 40 pulls. I still have a good amount ready for your next limited!

This card has made me go insane.

This an exaggeration on my part, but it seems like every time I look at this card I find another detail I've overlooked that just makes me love this card even more. It's an understatement to say that the artists of the Project SEKAI cards put a lot of thought into composition, lighting, and the theme for each set--especially for story-driven cards. So this post will be my in-depth analysis of this card and my personal thoughts and theories.

This post is separated into parts in hopes of this post having some semblance of organization.

Card Artwork Composition

Tsukasa's trained artwork from the card A rush of Excitement shows Tsukasa at the very forefront of the card. The camera is positioned slightly upright--giving the viewer the feeling as though they're looking up at Tsukasa. The art is also positioned at an angle, giving a sense of movement which works to emphasize Tsukasa's pose: A confident stride toward the warmly lit stage. The bright light fills the dim backstage with light. This is further emphasized by the billowing movement of the flag he clutches behind him, the tail of his suit, his bowtie, and his hair. He's giving the viewer a bright smile full of confidence

His card highly contrasts Rui's card Blowing in the Evening Breeze. He's static--sitting farther away from the camera. A barrier separates him from the viewer: a tilted hourglass that he watches with a solemn expression. He's surrounded by clutter and darkness floods the room he's in--only a small sliver of light reflecting against the hourglass and highlighting Rui's eyes.

For Nene's card A Childhood Friend's Gaze, there's more movement (shown by her hair and skirt), but she has a bittersweet smile and is seen stopping to look at a nearby hourglass. The light behind her is similar in color to Rui's: a bright white, unlike Tsukasa's warm yellow.

Overall, Tsukasa's card seems very out of place when you compare it to Rui and Nene's cards in the same set. Additionally, there's a large emphasis on the hourglasses in their cards (I'll discuss more on that later).

I feel like this decision to make Tsukasa's card such is very intentional on the artists' part and was the first thing that caught my attention when I saw them. Rui and Nene's cards have a solemn vibe to them--fitting alongside the plot of the set's corresponding event. Tsukasa's not so much.

It's almost as if he is ignoring the weight of it all.

Background Analysis

Let's return to Tsukasa's card.

Tsukasa is backstage, the warm light of center stage behind him floods a usually dim area with glowing light. This symbolizes Tsukasa's dream to be a world-renown actor and that the steps he takes in the present bring him closer to that light--his dream.

But this isn't an event about entering the stage. It's about leaving--saying farewell. A Sorrowful Farewell at Curtain Call--the part of a show where all affiliated actors bow to the audience and the show comes to a close.

It's strange that this card illustrates the polar opposite of the event name itself.

Now, let's talk hourglasses.

The appearance of the hourglass is especially important throughout the event. Hourglasses represent the passing of time--finite time specifically. They could have chosen a simple clock, but the idea of limited time--which the hourglass best represents--fits perfectly when we think of the future end of WxS. Their time together is limited and their goals--the closer they become--will pull them farther apart.

Rui's is situated behind one, glaring at the large hourglass. The hourglass is tilted, but the sand is still falling representing Rui's wish to stay with WxS longer (hence the hourglass being tilted in an attempt to stop the sand from falling to the bottom). This event focuses on Rui's shattering realization that his time with WxS will end in order for him to achieve his dreams. He'll have to let go of the people who accepted him and back into a world where that situation is not guaranteed.

Nene's card has many hourglasses, but here they stand upright and act as supports for the building behind her, symbolizing her dream. She's somewhat come to terms with the thought of WxS disbanding as showcased in past events (Mermaid Admiration and Island Panic) and can deal with it although with a bittersweet smile. She focuses on the good times she had and the good times yet to come with the troupe.

But take another look at the hourglasses in Tsukasa's card.

The hourglasses are small, upright, organized;

caged.

He doesn't interact with the hourglasses at all--not even a glance at them. He's focused on us, the audience, and the stage ahead. You can argue the idea that he just doesn't realize that his time with WxS is slowly fading away, but Tsukasa is a lot more aware than that. We've seen this shown multiple times throughout multiple event stories. He does know, but he doesn't want to think about it. Ignorance is bliss, after all.

Why sulk about the future if you just focus on the present? Why reminisce about the pain of the past if that doesn't make anyone smile? Forget the pain in those bad memories. Push them away, lock them up and never think of them again.

Sounds familiar, doesn't it?

This is further shown through the flag he carries behind him. We've seen this flag in his card in only two instances. His 2-star and 4-star from Wonder Magical Showtime. These two cards symbolize a great shift in the story of WxS: the formation of the troupe and their promotion to park ambassador respectively. The flag partly covers parts of the hourglasses as though he's involuntarily trying to hide them. The flag Tsukasa carries has been a symbol of WxS since the beginning. It's almost like he's trying to reassure everyone. "Everything's alright. We're still good ol' Wonderland x Showtime!"

Tsukasa has yet to come to terms with the future of WxS and the pain that it will cause him. So he does what he does best: he ignores it and forgets it. He smiles, reassuring us and the people around him that there's nothing to worry about.

But the hourglasses remain unchecked, and the longer Tsukasa ignores them, the more sand that will fill the bottom. They're bound to break someday under the weight, and Tsukasa will be left to pick up the pieces if nothing changes.

TLDR: Tsukasa, sweetie, it's okay to be sad.

you, feeling neglected, shouted at him and he shouted back some rude stuff that he didn't mean

now here you are

"you're so annoying, i don't need a break! i'm fine! just get out and leave me alone already then if you can't deal with it!" he shouted at you, furrowing his eyebrows while looking down at you. did he seriously just say that right now? you look at him with anger in your tone, and shout back, "fine, tenma. i will then." while turning your back to face the door and walk out. saki, was up the stairs watching the argument.

tsukasa knew what he said was wrong, but it was already too late to apologize. you're gone, and you probably didn't even want to see him at all right now.

he slapped his face, what the hell was he thinking? i'm was being so stubborn right now, he thought to himself. he knew you were upset, yet he still said it. why? he saw your teary eyes, on the verge of sobbing. yet, he was being ignorant. he blamed himself for angering you, upsetting you.

"i'm sorry," he muttered quietly.

but you were long gone already.

he wanted to reach out to you. but you're gone. his cheeks fumed a red color intensely out of frustration. he regret everything he said to you. he didn't even know what to do when he'll see you the next day.

the next day, everytime you saw him at school, he tried talking to you. but you'd always reply in a cold mannor, before speed-walking away. he knew you were avoiding him. he'd try to make excuses to talk to you.

rui caught on to this.

toya caught onto this.

nene did aswell.

the trio offered help. yet, tsukasa declined. he knew he had to do it himself anyways. it was now the end of the day, and you were at the school gate getting ready to walk home. that was until you felt a palm on your shoulder. you turn around and see tsukasa, with pink cheeks. "what do you want? i'm leaving you alone, just like how you wanted me to." you say, avoiding eye contact.

suddenly, he pulls you into a hug. he hides his face in your shoulder, bringing you closer to his body, muttering 'i'm so sorry' over and over again. you sigh and smile softly. he lets go and kisses you sweetly, holding your hands in his.

• you both fought over his lack of sleep and how he doesn't spend time with you

• he knows it's immature, but the next day he avoided you

• you knowing this, was obviously upset by this

you cross your arms. "can't you just get up and spend time with me please, kamishiro?" you insist. he shakes his head 'no' softly, claiming that he has to finish the gadget for the upcoming show. you groan and get your bag, before heading out the door.

"[name]? where are you-" "i'm going now. i'll wait until you're done with your gadget." you reply bluntly, shutting the door behind you. he frowned. he was sorry that he was being ignorant, but you're already gone.

he sighed sadly. you left him.

you'd come back though, right? of course you would.

the next day arose, and you looked around for rui to ask him his robots were. walking through the halls, you see the particular purple haired boy you were thinking about. walking behind him, he seems to speed up the pace, walking away from you. he was avoiding you now? how great.

you groan and walk away. forget it, you thought. this was now a cycle for the two of you guys for about three days. did you guys just break up or something? but, you didn't know what rui was thinking about. he missed you. he missed talking to you.

he felt immense guilt in him, for avoiding you. he know he has to say sorry, but he can't seem to build up the courage. that was, until one particular day came by. he finally felt like he could do this.

he tapped your shoulder, and held your face, taking you by suprise. he kissed your cheek, and smiled in pity. "i'm sorry, [name]." he says, holding your palm. you blush and look down. "it's fine, i guess,, just- don't do it again!" you say, bashfully.

toya aoyagi !

• you were upset on how he never really had time for you, and always spent time with someone else

• you tried giving him hints, but he was too dense to notice them

• he never realized until you ignored him for a little while to 'give him space'

you were always with toya, and it was nice for both of you. but, these path couple weeks, he's been ignoring you without even realizing. you know it's immature to feel bad about it, but you've been giving him obvious hints that he should have known by now.

was he doing this on purpose? you asked yourself. maybe he was getting bored of you. numerous thoughts were in your head, until you finally came to a conclusion that would help him.

you'd give him some space, since that is what he wanted. right?

you frowned at the thought, but it was for him. so, the next day you stayed away from him. the first day, he thought that you were in a bad mood. but, the next days he felt that something was up. he would've talked to you about it, but he didn't know how to word his feelings right.

while you were talking to mizuki, toya tapped your arm. "can we talk?" he asked with a serious face. you nodded silently, and let him lead you to a less crowded hallway. that was when he grabbed your shoulders, and hugged you briefly. "[name], are you okay? you've been avoiding me this week. did i do something wrong? if so, then i'll try to fix it, i promise-" he started.

you shook your head.

"you didn't do anything, toya" you reassure him with a smile. "it's just, i thought that maybe you were getting tired of me,, so i decided that i'd give you some space." you admit, saying the last part a bit more quiet than the rest. he frowns and kisses your forehead.

"don't feel that way, [name]. i'm not getting tired of you, and i don't plan on doing so anytime soon." he says, holding your hand softly.

akito shinonome !

• you fought about how he overworks himself all the time and how he has to take a break

• he denies everything you say, and shouts at you to leave him alone

• well you ended up leaving him alone, and during that time period, that was when he knew he missed you

you groan and shake your head. "akito, can't you just take a break? you're always over working yourself." you say. "[name], i'm fine. stop worrying about me." he replies back, turning away from you. "you're not fine, shinonome! you always come back so tired, and how can i not worry? you're really pissing me off." you argue. "if you don't want someone like me pissing you off, then you should just break up with me."

you look at him wide eyed and feel tears seeping through your eyes. you thought that you had found someone that you'd fall in love with, but did he really just say that? you groan wipe your tears. "fine!" "wait, [name]-" you run out the door and see ena looking at you with a worried face. you avoid her and run back to your own house tiredly.

if only you knew what was going on his mind right now. he regret what he just said, and how you probably want to break up with him. he didn't mean what he said.

he felt bad. he felt guilty. he sighed and groaned.

what was he gonna do now? he knew that he had to apologize one way or another, but how? you probably hated his guts anyways.

the next day, you went to weekend garage and sat down at a booth. ken walked up to you, and saw you upset. he handed you a drink, and walked away, giving you alone time. you silently thanked him.

suddenly, you hear the door open. speaking of the devil, it's akito. he spots you and goes over to you, worriedly. "what do you need, akito?" you ask coldly. ouch. "[name], i'm sorry. okay? i'm sorry. please, forgive me. i didn't mean it. i don't hate you." he confesses.

you feel your vision blur, and smile quietly. he sits beside you and kisses your lips softly. "i'm sorry" he whispers one last time.

"What's wrong Nene?"

Nene perked up, raising her head as Emu would speak softly to her. Nene had been keeping to herself since earlier this morning, getting really bad anxiety from a lack of sleep. As Nene perked up, she'd speak quietly, but loud enough for the pinkette to hear.

"M-Me?!- O-Oh..yeah. Don't worry a-about me, Emu. I-I'm fine." It was obviously a lie that Emu could instantly sense, seeing Nene fidget with her hands. She'd smile reassuringly, trying to comfort the grayish-green haired girl.

"I know you're lying, Nene, but its okay. Was it something that anybody did, or are you just genuinely anxious?"

Nene sighed softly, finally opening up about her worries to Emu. "I just.. I can't help but feel anxious about our next show.. I feel scared that I'll mess up like I used to..."

Emu understood what Nene meant, feeling bad for what the girl had to go through. She'd smile kindly, patting Nene's back to reassure her. All was going great now...Well, it was, until Emu heard a soft squeak from the poor girl.

"A-Ah...! E-Emu...Emu doho-don't!"

Emu froze, genuinely confused about what had just happened. She was about to ask what Nene had meant, before looking down to see her hand gently squeezing Nene's side. Smiling, she'd start cooing at Nene, causing a flustered reaction out of the grayish-green haired girl.

"Awwweeee~! Are you tickliiiissshhh~? That's soooo cute, Nene! I'm gonna getcha, I'm gonna getcha! I'm goooonnnaaaa....getcha~!"

Nene squeaked, trying to run away as she dashed in the opposite direction. She, however, would unfortunately be caught by Emu. Struggling, she'd giggle nervously as Emu wriggled her fingers in Nene's direction. "Awwwweeee~! Giggling already, Nene~? I haven't even touched you yet~"

"Nohoho-No..! E-Emu! Wai- EHEHEHEEEP! Nohohoohohohooooo!"

Emu's sudden scribbling from her fingers to Nene's sides caught the poor girl off guard. She couldn't help but giggle uncontrollably as she squirmed around lightly.

"Tickle tickle tiiiickleeeee~! I'm gooonnnnaaa getcha getcha getchaaaa~!" Emu teased playfully, wanting to lightheartedly treat Nene like a little girl. "Nohohoohohohohoho! Ahahahahahehehehehehe! E-Ehehehemuhuhuhuhuuu! Nohohot thahahahahahahat! P-Plehehehahahase! I-It tihihihihihicklehehes!"

Emu giggled along with the ticklish mess, cooing sweetly as she began to lightly pinch at Nene's hips. The playful antics of the pinkette caused uncharacteristic squeals to bubble out of the girl's lips.

"E-Eheheheheheeeek! E-EheheheheHEMUHUHUUU! STOHOHOhohohohopppp IHIHIHIHIT!"

"Awwweee~ Why, Nene? Does it tickletickletickletickletickle~? Kitchykitchykitchykitchykitchykitchykitchy coooooo~!" Emu cooed, her fingers slowly crawling up to Nene's neck.

"N-Nononononoooooooo! W-Wait! P-Pleas- EHEHEHEHEHEEEEK! E-EHEHEHEMUHUHUHUHUUU! N-NOHOHOHOHOHOT THEHEHEHEREEEE! AHAHAHEHEHEHE- *snort* " Nene shrieked, covering her mouth as she let out tiny snorts. She'd keep pleading until Emu finally let up, kissing her cheeks. "You ok, gigglebug? Did I go too far?"

"Nohoho-No! Don't worry, Emu! I'm fihihi-fine!"

As Nene giggled from the ghost tickles, Emu would smile brightly and hold Nene tightly in her arms. "That's good to know! I love you, but know I won't be afraid to tickle you for being sad again~!"

Nene giggled back nervously, but happily. "Ahehehe...! I-I lohohohove you too!"

Sure! Just starting off so sorry for the lack of consistent formatting, but what can I say? Lol, and I'm answering this ask at basically 6am, I did not sleep yet

This boy, fr, I feel like he's worse than Rui at asking for tickles, I mean, why the hell else would he wear layers casually???

Totally likes to act all ler until he's the one being tickled

But the only person he'd openly tolerate is Toya because HAVE YOU SEEN THEM SMILE AT EACH OTHER???

Even IF they're not gay for each other, they're still close enough friends that they would totally have tickle fights!!

Rui or Tsukasa try and tickle him? "Oops, my hand slipped, sorry senpai!" He is not at all sorry, especially not with Tsukasa

I mean he ocassionally tolerates them because they can also make Toya smile

As for spots, he totally D I E S if someone gets to the armpits or upper ribs or hips or thighs, basically layers help prevent him from dying whilst also looking rather stylish

Akito is so very much likely to tickle either Ena or Toya if he doesn't want to eat pancakes or cheesecake alone and they're reluctant to go with him.

That last point, you can thank one of the fics on here for, but I'm too lazy to find it...

Anyway, this ginger has a laugh as amazing as ginger ale to a sick plane passenger, I swear his giggles can cure Minecraft effect Nausea irl hhhh-

S c r e a m s when surprise tickle attack by An

Actually would scream when surprise tickled at all, but I think An is the most likely person to do it to him

Reeeeaaaaaally struggles with admitting to liking being tickled

Totally admits to liking tickling other people, even if it makes him look like a big softy

He blushes a LOT, like his hair and face kind of just automatically color match at some point and you can see it on his neck too

Toya Aoyagi

Quiet boy, so ADORABLE!

You can't tell me he doesn't totally have two lee moods, because one is more straightforward and he would only ask for tickles from Akito or Tsukasa, and the other is only slightly less straightforward because he'll hint at it, and then he'll get asked if he wants to be tickled and he'll blush and nod hhhhhh-

Less straightforward lee mood would probably be with the girls in VBS or Rui, and with the vocaloid peeps... I have no reasoning for this, it just would be, I think

He and Rui have plenty in common until it comes to tickles

Like he's totally straightforward about liking it and moreso than Rui about wanting it, and Toya is less likely to get back at someone for being tickled

When Toya is in a ler mood, he'd go for Akito... after asking permission of course

Too polite to ler for long, but will totally giggle with the lee

Comfort tickles, this boy loves them!!

I feel like he totally would tease actually, because he does to others as he wants done to him, but teasing also KILLS him

Neck tickles, gentle back tickles, kneecaps, those spots get him to a louder volume than he would otherwise be while talking

This boy totally giggles adorably, and it's as musical as his singing voice!

Tsukasa Tenma

Much like his role in his troupe, he totally shines when he's being tickled, like his smile is so freaking bright and radiant it's like the sun just descended upon us all and oh God everything is burning-

Gets tickled quite often due to his reactions being overdramatic

Gets ESPECIALLY tickled by Rui and Emu and sometimes even Nene or Akito

Toya would totally tickle him too if he said he wanted it or if Toya asked and got permission

HIS NAME IS TSUKASA TENMA! HE IS A STAR! A WORLD FUTURE STAR! And Akito and Nene get tired of hearing it, so they resort to tickles instead

Much like his smile, and much like Rui, his laughter must be FREAKING SENT FROM THE GODS

IT WILL INSTANTLY BRIGHTEN ANY ROOM

Stick a Tsukasa being tickled into a room full of depressed Nightcore members, and watch the darkness temporarily recede

I swear, his laugh is MAGIC

Emu says it's very WONDAHOIII!! and Rui would probably agree

Emu and Rui would be right

He's such a struggler, like even though he likes it, he will not stay still AT ALL and it is no one's fault if he flails and smacks someone but he'll still apologize profUSELY

Wouldn't outright ask for tickles most of the time, but if he's moping around and Rui or Toya ask him what he needs, he MIGHT admit to it

Even if he doesn't, if they ask to tickle him and he needs it, he will agree and allow it to happen

Gets tickle attacked the most because sudden tickles break him right away and LIKE I SAID THAT LAUGH IS LITERALY SUNLIGHT

In terms of spots, for sure the usual chest, armpits, belly, ribs, sides, but his death spots are probably his hips and feet

What can I say, man has a good skincare routine so the soles of his feet must be well taken care of, right?

Is it just me or is this man also ticklish when others wash his hair? Like someone else's touch in his hair just sends e l e c t r i c i t y though him down to his ass and he squirms SO MUCH because of it

Last but not least, he totally hugs Rui just to tickle his neck with those luscious golden locks
