Hurt/fluff

Loki, a lone ranger in the sea of time. He’s a broken man after witnessing the horrors of the TVA. he knows that your timeline, your home is somewhere he can go for comfort. Zipping through time to get to your place of solace. He takes a deep breath before knocking on your door, afraid that you might shun him away like life has always done to him. He knocks, you answer. “Hello darling, I have been through the most taxing of journeys through the multiverse and I was hoping to enter your home.” you are taking in his towering form. you utter a calm “well sure, you’re looking a little worse for wear after all.” you take his hand as you lead him to the comfiest chair in your house. “Would you like some tea?” you ask him “yes my dear that would be lovely :)” you get started as he tries so desperately to relax in your chair. You hand him the cup of earl grey, he beckons you to sit in his lap. In His mind all he thinks is how desperately he needs your warmth to engulf him. He‘s so overwhelmed with emotion that he starts to tear up, breaking down on in your arms lamenting over the life that he so severely wanted and the death that came from his mischievous endeavor to save his brother. The world's he had traveled avoiding kang the conqueror had taken a toll on him. He sobs deep into your shoulder. “Hey I’ve got you.” You stroke his black hair that to you shined so brightly “just fall into me, I’ll catch you.” he looks up at you through tears and lashes. He sobs “ I don’t remember.. I don’t know what I’d do without your love.” You kiss his forehead and pull him towards your chest knowing that he’d be gone the next day, you started to cry with him. But for now you both hold each other and you never leave him for that night.

I think he acted like this on purpose for Mobius. Mobius said he knew everything about him.

I won't comment on the scene with the Mongols because I don't understand it. Did he want to be there or not? Did the tesseract randomly cast him? Why did All-Speak stop working for a while?

For the rest of the examples:

Pompeii - Mobius deliberately restricted Loki. Of course, the Asgardians can tie him up and tell him to be silent… but none of them said - you have to pretend to sing bird… Thor doesn't do that! He may bind his brother with chains, but otherwise he does not insult his pride. Mobius did it. Loki also went all out. Mobius's reaction to this:

Pouring salt is probably a similar example. Of course Loki could have poured salt on purpose, smiling like this:

But that's not the point. He wants to be harmless in the eyes of Mobius because he wants to go beyond TVA with Mobius without Renslayer's consent. If he had poured salt on purpose, with obvious satisfaction... Mobius would have been offended and they would not have gone to Pompeii. Loki prefers to feign ''ignorance'' that he doesn't understand why Mobius is trying to protest. In a way, Loki was impersonating Thor here. It's Thor who usually does things before he thinks:

Of course, Thor doesn't know what he's doing and he's genuine about it. And Loki knows exactly what he's doing and pretends not to understand.

Running after Mobius is the same. Loki runs after him, talking and being deliberately irritating. Mobius is fed up… And literally fed up… he starts babbling to Loki about his true intentions - I don't care about you as you, I'm a tired agent, I want to find that better variant, I have enough work to do, and you were supposed to help me complete my mission…

So Loki ties his tie and takes off his mask for a moment - It's cute! You wanted to manipulate me!

After a while, Mobius says that - oh I know what your plan is, that you want to get to the keepers of time and take control… Loki lowers his eyes like a repentant child and lets Mobius believe that he has seen through him.

But Loki did exactly the opposite. At the beginning of the episode, Loki asks why Mobius isn't worried that by leaving TVA he will regain his power for this Renaissance fair. He could then easily kill them all. Mobius says - that they can catch him, and besides, betrayal will distract him from his goal - to go to the keepers of time.

And what does Loki do at the end of the episode?

It behaves exactly the opposite of what Mobius predicted.

He doesn't care what Mobius thinks of him. And Mobius is wrong about Loki in many ways. Watching someone's life doesn't automatically make them understand it. We, the fans! We see Loki's life! And what? Is there still a lack of anti-Loki people?

To understand someone, you not only need to have knowledge! You have to have empathy!

Did Mobius show empathy? When did he say Loki killed his mother?

Did Mobius care that he killed a lot of people? NO. He was just angry that TVA wasn't what it seemed. But did he regret the variants he killed or help to kill? Did he shed a tear for them? NO.

Is Loki ooc in the series? I have seen several posts claiming yes or no, by now, so I decided to explain what I find so ooc. I don’t criticize even what they show but how they do it. All the scenes I will mention could have been included in a perfectly in-character way by changing them a little.

Now, what is characterization? I would say it’s how a character reacts or shows his reaction to certain triggers (medically speaking, meaning things that invoke a reaction, not limited to upsetting ‘triggers’). There is a whole bunch of possible triggers you can sort by the reaction they invoke.

1) sudden appearance of an enemy that doesn’t act as Loki expected: for comparison at first Loki’s reaction to stark appearing in his tower and shedding the iron man armor (the Avengers)

Now, his reaction to the approaching Mongolians (episode 1: glorious purpose). At first, he simply looks skeptical. For me, this is in accordance with his former characterization. He has been skeptical before.

But then he does this:

The only former instances of Loki running I could think of are in Thor Ragnarok* when he fetches Surtur's crown and in Thor 1 when the whole group flees from the Jotnar on Jotunheim. Both are events that rectify a little haste. Unarmed mortals looking spooked are not.

For comparison Loki reacting to the Hulk's appearance in Avengers, a situation where appearing strong was quite important for him.

Yelling? Yes. Aggressive gestures? Yes! Trying to stand upon Starks bar behind him to appear bigger? No! Because it’s silly and won’t help. That’s why.

In contrast, his reaction to Hunter B15 and her minutemen is again much more in control, even when the ‘I beg your pardon’ only reminds of Hela’s first appearance in Thor Ragnarok.

2) Loki being a little shit: despite his title there haven’t been so many instances where Loki actually showed mischievous behavior in the first three films. But I believe these are acceptable examples so far:

So what is this?

I wish there wasn’t a gif limit so I could add another one of Loki running behind Mobius from where both of them try to manipulate the other (episode 2), but my criticism would be all the same: those movements are hectic and overly expressive. That’s the opposite of what we know from Loki. He was always controlled and did move gracefully. Like a feline, ready to strike. They could have made him free the goats in a more serious way. Or open the salt instead of shaking it like mad. He could have looked Mobius straight in the eye and pour the whole salt into that salad, smiling like a shark. I would have loved that.

*I won’t use Thor Ragnarok as an example for in-character-characterization, since it it already vastly different from the first three films.

well, i figure it's best to just get it out of the way so we can all move on faster from this phase (hah) and waiting will just make me dread going into it even more. now seated for Loki S02.

i really don't know what to say or think about this one. i really did not like the first season of Loki. like outside of What If? S01, Loki is the lowest rated show from phase 4 for me, and it's just so terribly written. Michael Waldron is not a person whose work i enjoy. he was also responsible for ruining the script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, yeah, he wrote that one too. even if the ideas were great (they were the opposite of that), I just don't enjoy his minute-to-minute dialogue, and it all is just so lacking in personality and is so incurious about the world around itself. he is just not a person whose work i enjoy. so i am extremely cautiously going into this expecting i'm going to want to pull my hair out and probably be bald by the end, but you all know i'll give it as a fair a shot as possible.

i did cheat a little just to set my expectations and better know what i was getting into, and i know Michael did not personally write any episodes this season, unlike last season where he wrote two episodes. i presume he was still showrunner but he himself does not have any writing or story credits from a quick glance at Wikipedia so. maybe this season will be less annoying than the first one. here's to hoping. i assume the abuser will be in this just because of the ending tag of Quantumania, but beyond that, i really don't know what to expect from this. i guess I'll be happy to see more of Owen Wilson?

i still don't like this new Loki because i think his arc for S01 was shit and if they expect me to believe that showing him a 30-second clip of the original Loki's memories suddenly makes him go on the same character arc in five minutes that the other Loki — a master of illusions btw — took over a decade to go through, they have lost their fucking minds. i'm going to try to ignore that for this season bc it's irrelevant for evaluating this season because it would have been burdened with it one way or another, but it's still really fucking stupid and i hate S01 so much.

we'll do this in the same format as Secret Invasion just because i don't want to be here for 5 years commenting on everything and taking 3 times as long to finish the episodes, so i will check back in with you all after S02E01. let's get into it.

I keep rewatching S01 of Loki, and getting really upset/annoyed that the writing in S02 is completely not on par with the first season.

S01 was so so good. I could just watch Loki and Mobius converse in a cafeteria for hours. S02... I still love Loki/Mobius, but there's no where near enough of it, and way too much exposition all the bloody time.

Bring back the longer conversations of S01 <3
