You know what I think would be fun? The Ennead in Legend of Zelda. 

Giant nine-headed dragon who might have maybe decided to go on a vacation in a random dimension. Y’know, one where they don’t have to worry about the GIW or summonings or accidentally starting cults or well, anything really. 

Or at least that was what they were hoping for. Oh sure, not a lot of things so much as approach them but there’s this tiny elf-looking child with a sword. And like, they’re not going to hurt a child who can’t even do much more than scratch their scales, y’know? 

Meanwhile from literally everyone else’s point of view, there was a massive comet, meteor, etc that fell to the lands, and suddenly there’s this massive multi-headed star beast wandering the skies like some sort of cosmic spirit unable to return to the place it came from. And they say as much to the hero.

Twilight. Wind. Legend. Hyrule. Four. Time. War. Wild.

Sky (Skyward Sword). Other Nicknames: Hylia’s chosen, Sleepyhead, Cloud, Birdbrain, First knight, Skyloftan.

Titles: Hylia’s Chosen Hero, The Hero Reborn, Hero of Skyloft.

God who has claim over his soul: Hylia

Part of First’s soul: Caring/kindness (biggest piece)

Note: While he is technically called the ‘first hero’ he wasn’t actually the first hero. The first one while saving humanity was wounded, and died. However the first hero was scrapped from history, so by all accounts Sky is the ‘first hero’. He’s also the ‘first hero’ by a time travel and the grandfather paradox.

History:

Link was just a boy on Skyloft, he was in the knights academy along with his best friend Zelda and his rival known as Groose. They are bonded with Loftwings which are considered half of their soul. Link gets a weird dream, is woken up and then has to go looking for his Loftwing, Red. Link eventually finds his Loftwing and wins the race, officially graduating and Zelda gives him her sailcloth.

A tornado pulls Zelda out of the sky, Link tries to help her but it is seemingly useless. When Link wakes up, he’s called by a mystery figure who lures him down to a secret place, where the Goddess sword is located. He meets the spirit in the Goddess Sword, her name is Fi and she was given the task of helping the chosen hero defeat the Demon known as Demise, she offers that if Link takes this adventure he will find Zelda as well.

Eventually during this adventure Link learns the truth, that Zelda is Hylia reborn, that this was a long plan coming and just exactly who he is. Despite everything he still goes after to save her, having to forge the Master Sword to make sure it can actually be strong enough to kill the demon. After facing and killing the demon, Demise uttered a curse, to always be reborn and that the ones with the goddess blood and the hero spirit can never know peace. Link says goodbye to Fi but has to grapple with what he’s learned, he still loves Zelda and his new quest is to settle on the surface and have a family with Zelda for as long as his body will allow.

Death: Happened soon after his second child with Zelda. Suddenly his soul was becoming too much for his body and burned him from the inside out. He died out on a walk, Zelda did her best but couldn’t get his heart to start again.

Interesting stuff/Headcanons:

Link learns about his past and gains memories back after his first temple. He kept trying to push and go forward so Fi had to push him into the water to save him.

Basically his soul was burning up his body.

He does have a slight breakdown after this and is left with a burn scar over his heart.

After the final battle, Sky is lit with lighting scars crawling up his body. Most are seen on his neck, but some hint up to his face.

Sky talked a lot with Fi and really grew to care for her, she was the only person who would talk about the past with him. He still talks to the sword even if he won’t get an answer.

He learns a lot of songs and a lot of stories that he shouldn’t know. He knows history that has been lost to ages and will forever stay lost.

Sky falling asleep isn’t natural, it was a safety measure done by Hylia, to try and keep his soul from burning out like the last hero.

So if he sits down for too long without something to do, he will fall asleep.

He also suffers from visions and dreams about the future. Some are vague but others are not. He knew he was fated to die before Zelda’s hair even turned gray.

The prophetic dreams come from the father of his soul, and his connection to time. Sky has the dreams cause he has the biggest soul piece.

Sky tries to stay on the positive side because 1) it’s in his nature and 2) if he didn’t he probably would have broken down by now.

Sky has come to terms that Zelda isn’t Hylia, she may have some memories but Hylia couldn’t be bound in a mortal form (at least not like in the games), she is just what Hylia thinks are her best parts (you can think like Zelda is a daughter or offshoot of Hylia).

Zelda and Sky both deal with an identity crisis and bond over it. Zelda does try to find ways to stop Sky’s visions from coming true.

He keeps a feather from his Loftwing in his hair, so he can always be connected to Red.

He took up woodworking and whittling to keep himself awake when he sits down.

Unlike the others, he seems to be the only one experiencing the curse, it could be because he has a bigger piece of the original soul.

He can play the harp, specially he still carries around and uses the goddess harp.

He can cook, he just often doesn’t because he would doze off while something was cooking.

Just because Sky is sleeping doesn’t mean he’s resting, so he has bags under his eyes despite the amount of sleeping he does.

The bags combined with his pale skin that never seems to get darker, gives him a gaunt appearance at times.

His visions have also allowed him to see what the others deal with on their adventure (as well as their deaths). He mainly tries to come across as someone you can talk to.

Sky adores birds, he doesn’t understand why all the others seem to hate them.

Sometimes he feels a bitter envy for the other heroes, not knowing their fate, not knowing the burning feeling digs into his chest.

Sky is very protective of Fi and the Master Sword, he doesn’t understand how someone like Time sees it as a curse.

Sky can actually feel/see the other hero’s spirits or the broken part. Sometimes his mind screams at him to do something, but he doesn’t know what. (it’s like a faint greenish glow)

Skyloft and Embroidery

I’m having so many feelings about the embroidery on Sky’s and Sun’s shirts in @linkeduniverse Entrance Pt. 3

His shirt is actually so beautiful . The more I’m staring at the picture the more I am appreciating the complex embroidery on it.

Throughout history, embroidery has had lots of different meanings. Women gathered and embroidered together and had time to speak with each other away from other pressures, and embroidery became the medium for powerful social movements. It was used in many cultures to wave stories into fabric that could withstand the flow of time. Elsewhere, embroidery symbolized wealth and status with intricate designs. And for some, and more often today, it’s just really really pretty.

I think Skyloft would lean toward embroidery as a method of storytelling and passing down legends. The outside of the Skyloft bazaar is so vibrantly colored, so colors and beauty are clearly important to the people.

The Bazaar, which is one of Skyloft's cultural hubs, is made of fabric and you can see the designs on even such large, durable fabrics. I can imagine Skyloft houses being covered in rugs and tapestries adorning the walls, telling the stories of the family who lives there and ensuring their history is passed down to the next generation.

Not only the big events of history, but the small, personal stories important to individuals and families. The big events and the history of the society would be held in places like the bazaar or the academy or with the goddess statue. But in a household, their tapestries might show the story of two people falling in love, of siblings who protect and love each other, of the largest pumpkin ever grown. Those things are the stories the families would smile and laugh about while sitting together over a meal.

The embroidery on clothing could represent a person’s attributes and dreams, or aspects of their personality they want to share with the world.

The embroidery designs on Sky’s shirt are light blue like the sky itself and red like his loftwing. There is green to ground him to the earth of his home when he feels the urge to fly forever. The blue is whispy and less distinctly patterned than Zelda’s, showcasing his head in the clouds personality and love for flying.

Zelda’s blue is a more regal shade combined with the gold. The shapes are well defined and confident, just like she is.

this update is the culmination of me going "haha wouldn't it be fun to have a big party with the whole island for gran grans birthday!" and then realizing oh shit. now i have to draw that. reap what u sow lolol

if ur wondering where loft and wolf got their outfits, the answer is Tetra's crew! i have half a mind to make a bonus comic about this but we'll see if i have the time lol. Slate already had that outfit in his sheikah slate, I based it off some of the hateno dresses from the botw concept art! Gran Gran's outfit is similarly based off some of the Lurelin designs.

favorite little joke of the update is gran gran making sure aryll and wake are EATING GOOD!

I like the idea of a circle folk dance popping up across Hylian cultures, because of the whole *gestures to the endless cycle of death and rebirth* thing. I imagine Wolf at least is probably familiar with the steps of this kind of dance

I designed these festival outfits a while back with no intention to use them in the actual comic but then I realized this was the perfect opportunity. originally I planned for everyone's outfits to use their respective Loftwing's color palette, but it didn't really work with the overall palette of the update lol so I changed them to be more cohesive

I will refrain from saying much about the last page :-) however, I will say that she's at Skyview Spring, which you might remember from prologue. skelda what are u up to!!

ALRIGHT LET’S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!!! 🎉🎉🎉

so to begin, we first see Sky and Twilight talking about loftwings together!!

so basically that means that Sky was talking to Twilight abt loftwings! so that’s pretty cool ig :D

then Twilight points out that the room got brighter… I believe that this is a “2D” dungeon if you know what I mean, probably taking place somewhere in the downfall timeline. i’m not super familiar with downfall dungeons, so if anyone knows what this means, then please let me know! i doubt JoJo would just put this in for no reason soooo

now we have clarification WHY Twilight asked about loftwings; it was because he was wondering if he’s been to Skyloft, because the dungeon City in the Sky in TP is also in the sky. (btw, I HATED that dungeon puzzle-wise in TP. the design and story was great, but it was confusing and not straightforward.)

also “‘cause, wonderin’, floatin’” yeah i think we can all agree that Twilight speaks with a southern accent :D

also Twilight’s facial expression here reminds me of this specific panel from the TP manga —>

AUUGHHH THE OOCCA ARE LITERAL NIGHTMARE FUEL

also Sky’s shrug is pretty cute lol… and ALL of his facial expressions are hilarious!!

Twilight’s description of an Oocca is pretty accurate ngl

but this leads me to another question: ARE the loftwings and oocca related? well, obviously they are quite different size-wise, with loftwings being much, MUCH bigger. loftwings also come in many colors, but one of those colors is the grey-cream color of the oocca. according to natural selection, it’s possible that the grey colors of the loftwings were kept simply because the grey coloring helped them survive better, therefore passing those traits onto the next generation. they’re bodies are quite similar looking (except for the head, but it’s possible that it just evolved to fit a larger brain) with a cucco-like appearance that was more obscure in loftwings. so overall, I think it’s POSSIBLE they are related, but I do believe that it’s unlikely.

i think here, Sky is deflecting the comparison of his loftwings to Twi’s oocca. (yes, Sky, buddy, you are the fasted rider in ur class :D)

then Twilight mentions Shad… bla bla bla scholar lol

something interesting i noticed here was that the walls in the last longer panel where the two chat about Shad looks awfully like a downfall 2D dungeon, like one from ALTTP. the way JoJo has warped the walls looks VERRRYY suspiciously similar to those, and I think it’s on purpose. cool detail!!

so i found the closest matches to the monsters Sky and Twi fight.

first, is a blue moblin from TAoL (zelda ii, the adventure of link) now this one isn’t a perfect match I don’t think, but it’s the closest one i could find to what JoJo has drawn. it wields a spear and it’s armor is slightly different, but it looks close enough. it also has a distinct dog-like appearance like the one in LU, rather than the more pig like appearance moblins usually have. it’s possible that it’s a blue moblin also from LA NS with a slight redesign, and I do think it’s a probable option… but I will say the TAoL design is closer. but both are from 2D games in the downfall timeline!!

the next one, a Darknut from Link’s Awakening Remake for NS is literally a PERFECT match! it’s sword, shield, designs on its armor, they’re all perfect!! this is interesting because LA technically never existed because Koholint wasn’t real and only in Legend and the Wind Fish’s minds. so… hmmm interestinggg…. but i really doubt they’re in Koholint or another dream because of their surroundings prior to entering the dungeon.

Has "too good" of posture lol

It makes his back stiff and by the time he's in his bedroll he's confused about why it feels better, silly silly man

Just in general tenses his muscles too often, so whenever u offer to massage him, he nearly crumbles on the spot

(the others know exactly how amazing ur massages are, and are fully staring at him in jealousy lol)

Gets little rips and tears in his clothing all the time somehow??

Even tho he wont have a scratch acc on him after hours of battle???

mans could be flying around Skyloft with only clouds touching him and come back pouting telling you he ripped his scarf again :'(

Likes to be slightly in front of you most of the time, especially in new places/other Links' Hyrules

It just makes him feel better knowing he's both protecting you, and that you're watching his back

(Most Links feel at their best/most confident when your voice can be heard just over their shoulder, not that they don't love seeing ur face now too)

Sky (Skyward Sword Link):

Is slowly making everyone he knows a collection of wooden figurines

He usually carves when he's bored or stressed

so needless to say this mission of the Shadow (slow going, stressful at times like Twi getting hurt)

Has made him give u an army of little wooden figures (everyone else gets a small collection bc ur the first he gives one to)

Did i say give? Excuse me, i meant:

sneaks them as a little surprise into your belongings or clothing or other personal effects

This started bc after a week or two of him giving you wooden things you tried to reroute him to other ppl,

so Sky just made it his mission to see how many he can sneak instead onto you on any given day lmao

(Also he may or may not have daydreamed abt being able to carve u things and actually physically give them to you on his adventure before, so he's taking advantage of being able to now)

Has luscious hair at all times, little to no effort, Wars is so pissed abt it lol

Mf responded when asked what products he used (by poor Wars too) with, "wym?? With water??? And soap????"

Never ties his boot laces

You will all be gearing up for battle and go to stalk and stealth kill monsters and right before u get up on them u always have to look over at Sky's shoes and whisper at him to tie them

Is the most likely to plant face first into the ground or trip and fall on his ass from shoes untying

He just didnt need to with being in the clouds on his Loftwing all the time back on Skyloft and so he never rlly adapted to that even on the surface lol

He's also just miserable at doing a decent knot so you've taken to teaching him repeatedly how to tie them-

why didnt the knight academy help with this at all actually??

(Wind makes fun of him be hes a sailor and knows like 10+ knots)

Four (Four Swords/Minish Cap Link):

Loses his tools constantly

Well not really "lose" so much as "slightly misplace"

It drives him crazy, the Minish used to help him with it back in his Hyrule so he got out of the habit of putting things back where they belong

You've gotten to the point where you'll glance over wherever he's working so the next time he comes up to u complaining abt a lost hammer or smth u immediately just "should be over by the fire"

And ur right, 99.9% of the time its so funny

Bc Four's all like "wtf ive moved around so much since then i took all the other tools with me- MF. U WERE RIGHT."

Is rlly good at like color matching, comes in handy for new outfits

Also has aches and pains like in his hands and arms mostly

Bc of all the forge work, and absolutely treasures any massages u offer him

Likes to wear matching jewelry with you! Like earrings or piercings or necklaces etc

Also has good taste in jewelry and what looks good on everyone + you

Legend (Link to the Past, Link's Awakening etc):

Unfortunately the type of person to just shove things in his bag willy nilly

Its the horder tendencies, he just has a lot of stuffs so he gave up trying to organize it

Actually really good at styling hair, Legend would absolutely lie abt it if u asked but he can spend as much time on his hair as Warrior

Likes to experiment with new clothes, like skirts or bright colors, esp if they match some of his clothes already

U ran by some makeup one time in another Hyrule and he knew how to use it rlly well??

Lies abt random skills he has, or like thinks skills he already has can translate well,

like he's rode a horse before wym he can't drive Wild's motorcycle??

Got challenged to try and go shield surfing with u once and thought that horse-riding skill would transfer and it did in fact Not.

Actually kinda scared the other Links watching u two spin out and crash ngl, what with doing an accidental backflip? Midair??

but u both were okay somehow???

What is Loftwing Letters?

A Valentines-themed gift exchange! You will create a valentine for someone and receive a valentine from someone else.

Valentines don’t need to be Zelink-related, but they should be Legend of Zelda-related!

You can sign up via the Google Form in our Discord Server. Signups will close on January 11 and your match will be sent by January 14.

In order to participate, you MUST join our Discord server! For the sake of easy communication, you must be a member of our server for the duration of this event.

All gifts will be posted on Valentines Day, February 14!

We will also reblog Loftwing Letters content on this blog! Make sure to mention this account (@zelinkcommunity) and tag your valentine with #loftwingletters25 so we can reblog it.

What can I create and receive?

For this event, you can create/receive art, writing, and music. Your match will indicate their preference.

Writing should be 500-1500 words long.

Art should be a doodle/sketch, and coloring is up to the artist.

Music should be one minute or less.

These are loose guidelines; going a little bit over is okay. We want the event to be low-pressure, simple, and fun for everybody, which is why we set these guidelines.

Can I gift/receive NSFW content?

Yes, if the gifter/giftee indicates it’s okay. We will try our best to match NSFW-comfortable people with NSFW-comfortable people and vice versa.

Dragon Sky! He's a feathered wyvern. Colors and pattern primarily based on his loftwing. The tips of his tail feathers were white, but after he killed Demise they turned black

Oh, that’s adorable, and honestly, the Chain would probably go wild with overprotective, dad energy.

You want the Chain to adopt you? Say no more they’re already on it.

Time’s the honorary dad, no questions asked. Time is suddenly 1000% more invested in everything you do, from making sure you’re eating properly to teaching you practical survival skills.

You’ll never get cold in winter again because he’s always sneaking in extra blankets or jackets wherever you’re staying.

He’ll teach you all kinds of self defense techniques, (even if he secretly hopes you’ll never need them.) And every time he leaves for a fight, he gives you a nod that says, ‘Stay safe.’ And maybe a ruffle of the hair too, if he’s feeling soft.

Twilight’s the big brother/father figure you never knew you needed.

He’s in full Dad mode from the get go, making sure you’re comfortable and always within sight. Someone looks at you the wrong way? Twilight’s giving them the death glare.

He’d take you out for horseback rides, teach you about animals, and make sure you can handle yourself in the wilderness. He’s the type to make you a meal with a quiet “Eat up,” before leaning back and watching to make sure you’re getting enough.

With Sky? Prepare for smothering. Sky is constantly checking in, asking if you need anything or if you’re happy.

He’s the warm, doting older brother who treats you like a precious bean who needs constant protection. You want Loftwing rides? Done. Need a shoulder to lean on? He’s already there.

He’ll tell you stories of the sky and legends of heroes, all while making sure you feel loved and looked after. And he’ll probably teach you how to use the Sailcloth too, just in case you ever need it.

Wind’s the fun older brother who’s overjoyed to have a younger sibling. He’ll teach you every trick he knows, from dodging monsters to sneaking extra snacks. He’d love nothing more than to take you out on the seas, showing you the ropes and telling tales of pirates.

He’ll make sure you know how to swing a sword, just in case, of course. And he’d fiercely defend you if anything even remotely threatening came your way.

Wild would immediately start making sure you’re well fed, always handing you extra portions or snacks he’s made. He’ll go all-out teaching you the best ways to cook over a fire, how to navigate by stars, and how to live off the land.

You’d be his priority now, and he’s quietly protective. If anything or anyone hurts you, they’ll find Wild’s calm expression fading into something far more menacing. He’ll go from “wholesome forest brother” to feral forest dad in seconds flat.

Legend would try to play it cool, acting like it’s no big deal that he suddenly cares about you. But underneath his gruff exterior, he’s very protective.

He’ll make sure you know how to handle yourself in a fight and keep a good weapon on you at all times. And he’d give you little trinkets, enchanted rings, and amulets ‘for protection.’ He won’t admit how much he cares, but if someone so much as messes with you, they’re done.

Four would become your unofficial, super-caring big brother. He’d split into his colors sometimes just to entertain you (and play scary big brothers if someone bothers you) , creating little puppet shows or crafting tiny trinkets for you to wear.

He’d be protective but in a quieter way, always watching out for you and making sure you’re safe. He’ll share tales of adventure and give you all kinds of tools and advice to make sure you can handle yourself. And if anything dares to hurt you, he’s not above going full Four Swords on them.

Hyrule would be like an adventurous older sibling, always ready to take you on some magical journey. (Said magical journeys are just wandering the forests and inevitably getting lost.)

He’d teach you all kinds of survival techniques, but he’s also likely to enchant a few items ( just for you, so you’re extra protected.

He’s protective but gentle, always worried about your safety, and he’d go to any length to keep you from harm. If something ever goes wrong, he’ll unleash every spell and potion in his arsenal to make it right.

Warriors would become your bodyguard/big brother figure (or uncle), always looking out for you and making sure you’re comfortable and safe.

He’d teach you combat techniques and make sure you could handle yourself in a fight, but he’d also keep a close eye on anyone who dared to come too close.
