If the bad kids played Minecraft

Gorgug: redstone builder my guy loves making rollercoasters and security systems and anything redstone for the others, loves the enchantment table and fights monsters purely for xp, has a little farm of rainbow sheep and flowers, his workshop looks like a flower (Fabian may or may not have made it he just came to the joint world and found it there one day)

Fabian: achievement maniac he must prove that he is the best at the game, loves all the fortresses and like the raids and all of that, fights any monster he sees and brings the spoils back to Adaine for her building, hoards all the gold and diamonds he finds and refuses to share, once killed a piglin on accident and had to give all of his gold to Fig, main person who finds and downloads mods for everyone (he has the nicest computer after all), has a list of which person got one mod after everyone started fighting about who requested a shaders mod that just makes everything look really pretty but also insanely slows everyone’s fps (it was Gorgug he liked how it looked)

Fig: trying to make and collect everything she physically can and if she can’t she will find a way, has about a million mods installed because why not (her personal world is like 4 fps), “rules the nether” (Adaine turned a fortress into a castle for her and she only trades with piglins), has at least one cd playing at any time and tries to start a campaign for one of her songs to become an official cd (it almost works)

Riz: automates everything and anything he can, just does insane experiments for funsies, has a gang of iron golems and a village that he rules with an iron fist (is very offended that fig refuses to trade with his villagers, has waged war on the nether multiple times but Fabian (his “knight”) and Gorgug (Figs “knight”) refuse to fight each other), Kristen is banned because she keeps trying to start a rebellion

Adaine: the builderrr girlie likes her games on peaceful and her structures luxurious, she made a castle for all of her friends in her joint world (even if Fig and Riz usually sleep in their kingdoms), does not know how to fight in the slightest so she just enlists Fabian and Gorgug (Riz makes her pay to enlist Fabian in tnt no Adaine he is not making another nuke what are you talking about), genuinely a good archer but freaks out anytime she sees a monster and becomes instantly useless so she mainly uses it for hunting purposes

Kristen: loves mining, also has a million pets like if she can find a way to make it a pet she will (she once tamed a polar bear nobody knows how), her room in Adaine’s castle is in the basement with little mining carts that Gorgug made her that go throughout basically their whole world, runs as fast as she can away from any Warden chamber (she cannot fight), has an army of snowmen in a cage, technically has a fee for being the blacksmith of the group but forgets every time, has a White House built somewhere in the world after the school election

Ayda: Crafts books so she can write in them, lives in Figs castle in another room than Fig (for the drama, according to Fig)(“the fans will love it!” “My love who are you talking about nobody is watching us” “excuse you my tumble audience is very much enjoying our live-blogged tragic love” “my paramour we are literal blocks”), rotates between living there and living in the tallest tower in Adaine’s castle, is fascinated by Gorgugs inventions

Ragh: Fighter, insists on only using his bare fists, drinks any potion he finds, is the only person willing to go on raids with Fabian and Gorgug, figured out a way to play bloodrush in game, loves elytra’s, lives in a dirt hut that is big enough for him to stand in next to a bed and nothing else, Adaine built him a room (that looks like a gym) in her castle but he prefers dirt hut

Aelwyn: Only on there for the cats, steals Kristen’s cats any chance she gets, surprisingly really good at fighting but refuses to fight unless absolutely necessary, has one mod on for herself and it’s the shapeshifting mod (no clue if that’s a mod or part of a game mode) so she can prank Adaine anytime she wants, loves making tnt even if she doesn’t use it (“the goblin uses it in funny ways” “Aelwyn he is exploding a village” “like I said funny”), fucking hates goats and polar bears for no reason

Will sing girly pop songs with you in the car, does not care.

Cannot sit on the couch for longer than 5 minutes or he’ll fall asleep and stay asleep for the rest of the day, you better hope and pray y’all don’t have plans

Has a HORRENDOUS farmers tan 💀, looks like he’s still wearing a shirt when he takes his off

Will only play videos games if Gabi and Falco ask him too, other than that he doesn’t play that often, but does like to watch you play your games. It’s like having your own narrator/commentator :)

Sets at least 10 alarms to get up for work in the morning but doesn’t wake up to any of them, you have to wake him up after the nth alarm by practically shoving him off the bed

Garbage disposal, will eat anything you cook without hesitation and don’t even think about buying snacks because they’ll barely last a day

Physical touch is one of his love languages 100%. If you don’t feel like cuddling in bed he’ll still find a way, like making sure his foot is touching yours 😭

He’s Bob the builders long lost brother, you’ll mention wanting a piece of furniture vaguely and he’s already putting together a mental list of the materials he needs to build it for you

Naturally fit, doesn’t need to go to the gym often to maintain his physique

Drives a truck and I mean like a 90s model Chevy pickup that he’s had since high school that he’s fully restored and is insanely proud of. Has not even considered getting a newer truck because he just can’t let go his older one (first big purchase he made, so it’s sentimental, leave him alone)

Very rarely has a filter, and not in that kinda way, he just sometimes says what he thinks out loud and you have to pretend you didn’t hear him and move on 😭

Is so blind to flirting, like total blindness. You had to finally spell it out to him that you LIKED him and not as a friend for him to realize what you were doing. It’s gotten worse since you and him have been together because he still doesn’t realize when other people flirt or throw themselves at him (he can be such a himbo, I love him)

Cat person

Very in tune with his emotions. Wasn’t always like that since he had a rough childhood but after going to therapy after high school he doesn’t conceal his emotions anymore and can be upfront at times

Does NOT play about you. Reiner is a very sweet caring person but the second he notices you’re uncomfortable around a guy/girl a flip switches and he turns into the intimidating beefy dude that no one wants to fuck with. (It’s lowkey so hot)

Worships you, (obviously) by buying flowers at least every week or two so that way they never die. Date nights, weekend trips, the whole nine yards. He loves spending time with you and showing you how much you mean to him

Grew up catholic, doesn’t practice anymore due to the conformity pushed onto him. Isn’t really religious in general but does believe in a high power.

Wants a big family. At least two kids, maybe more if you’re willing. Doesn’t like the idea of his child not having siblings like him and also just loves family orientation in general. Definitely a big family guy.

Set back in the meadow is what appears to be an enormous majestic old oak with spreading branches, unusual for this particular area, with two smaller oaks to the sides. Nestled within the branches, higher up, off the ground is a tree house looking enchantingly reminiscent of the Swiss Family Robinson's home. It looks a bit weathered but still plenty sturdy enough. Gavin turns to look at you, hazel eyes alight with boyish wonder. "C'mon!" He grabs your hand and starts hurrying forward, barely able to contain his excitement.

His hand is warm and firm around yours as he pulls you along with him. "I just knew I would find it one day! I'm so glad you're with me. I wonder if it's in good enough shape...if it's safe to climb up and explore?" His eyes are just sparkling and dancing with elation. “Jack never believes me, but he’ll have to since you’re here to see it too.”

You laugh softly, his happiness making you happy. He’s so serious at work, this is another side to him entirely. You haven’t felt anything like that in years and years, not since you were a small child. “We can test it out. What exactly is it though?” you ask with a bit of wonder in your voice.

"Well...if I remember the old stories right, there was this eccentric old rich guy who'd been lost up here for awhile. When he finally turned up in town years and years ago he was babbling about this place he had been that was full of magic. Story was, he collected his wife and kids and moved 'em back up here and built this fantastic tree house for them to live in. His kids would be about 20 years older than Jack and me now. I think one of 'em used to stop in at the diner when he'd come down to town. Never told anyone where exactly his home was, though. Haven't heard anything about him for years now."

“It does feel kind of magical here,” you whisper, looking around. “It’s quiet though…I don’t think anyone is here anymore.” You look up as you approach the tree. From so close you can see how huge it actually is. You would love to climb up there and see it but you wouldn’t want to bother anyone or tread on ground that was taken. “Do you think they’ve all gone?”

"Sadly, I think so. No one's seen the the son who used to stop in at the diner in town for several years now. People said the grandchildren had all moved away and I think their folks finally followed to be closer to 'em. I don't know if the original builder and his wife were buried up here or not. The stories don't always have the best details. Maybe we take a look around down here first."

He leads you off around the back of the tree with your hand still clasped safely in his as if he never wants to let go. You steal a peak at his expression and your touched by the wonder there. You feel like you can understand him a little better now. His older brother is always calm and steadfast, probably always trying to make him be serious and studious like him, when Gavin’s heart was always looking for adventure and magic.

"I wonder if the old guy...the one who built this...ever bought the land he put the tree house on?  He was filthy rich…so they say, and that was back before there were federal and state held lands." He walks the wide circumference of the old oak and its smaller siblings with you in tow, rubbing your hand lightly with his thumb where he's holding it.

“If they just left, maybe they didn’t. Or maybe they left when the state subsidized this all.” There still hasn’t been a sound or a sign of anything up above or around the tree and you squeeze his hand, hoping he knows how much you love his affection. “It’s so beautiful,” you murmur. “I don’t think anyone has been here in years.”

Just then it finally starts to rain from those clouds that had been rolling in all morning.

He looks up at the tree. "Better take cover from the rain....I wonder..." he says softly. Then, seeing something above, he pulls himself up onto a fairly low branch and reaches down. "Give me your hands, sweetheart...I'll pull you up."

You trust him completely and you reach up, letting him pull you  up as you press your hiking boot against the tree trunk to help propel yourself up until you’re on the branch with him. Just above that is a ladder built into the tree.

"Let's take the ladder up to the treehouse." He puts you in front of him on the first step-like rung, intending to catch you if you slip as you both start to climb.

The rain is starting to pick up so you focus on climbing carefully, turning to glance down at him to make sure he’s following okay. “Enjoying the view?” you tease him, as he glances up along the length of your body.

"Oh, very much," his voice drops a notch and he chuckles. You can’t help but blush even though you brought it up, but you’re distracted as you climb up over the edge into what looks like a fairly good-sized common room that has a roof over part of it.

Warm flutters go through you and you climb up into the room, kneeling in the center of the floor under cover until Gavin makes it up as well. The rain is tapping on the roof now, and it’s a lovely sound.

He looks around brightly then his eyes are back on yours. "Now I wish we'd brought a sleeping bag up," he says a little wistfully. Just then you spy an old set of shelves and cabinetry built into the far wall.

“These shelves are beautiful,” you murmur, standing carefully and going over to them; running your fingers along the carved wood.

It looks like they're made of teakwood. No wonder they've held up so well. Even the hardware is high grade. He rubs his hand over the brackets and hinges. Carefully opening the cabinet he finds an old handmade quilt inside with a note on top. "Please enjoy your time here. When you're ready to go, please put everything away for the next traveler to enjoy."

"I wonder if we're the first travelers?"

"How long has this note been here? The paper is pretty yellowed.” You guess it doesn't hurt to stay...you were sort of invited. Right? 

Gavin carefully pulls the quilt out of the cupboard and puts it in your lap. "I'll go get our packs. Looks like we're staying the night here...that is...if you don't mind."

“I don’t mind if you don’t. It doesn’t look like the rain is going to let up anytime soon and we can go to the cabin tomorrow. It does seem strangely warm, doesn’t it? It seems like it should be drafty but it’s not at all…”

“No...I think the guy that designed and built this place really knew what he was doing. I'm dying to get a good look at things. This is amazing!” Gavin starts off and goes down a couple rungs of the ladder before stopping again to look up at you...  "I'm glad you're here to share this with me." Then he disappears down the tree.

He’s so eager you can’t help but smile but you wonder if the feeling will last. It usually doesn’t, but already you find yourself wanting this to work with him. He appears a few minutes later with both packs on his arms. “Oh be careful!”

"Don't worry sweetheart...I'm good around trees," he chuckles. He hauls the packs up over the edge ahead of him then hauls himself up. "Someone put a lot of work into that quilt. I wonder if it was the builder's wife?" He comes over and sets the packs to the side.  "The overhang...or roof actually in a manner of speaking...should keep us plenty dry up here."  He sits down beside you and takes your hand, squeezing it lightly. "You sure you don't mind being off on this adventure with me?"

You thread your fingers together with his without thinking, his hand is so warm and strong and you ache for the touch. “No, I love it,” you say quietly. “Especially with you. If you don’t mind lugging me up trees and making everything take longer.”

"Of course not! It's my pleasure lugging you up trees with me," he grins. "I know I kind of went off on a whim when you were thinking this was just for work. But we were so close I had to try just one more time to find this place. A lot of people don't believe it exists."  He moves over closer to sit beside you, his side pressed lightly against yours.

“It feels special.” You look around at the carvings and think again how the air here just feels different. “I love it. I always wanted to build a treehouse. Do you want to look around a little before it gets dark?”

"Yes, maybe while the rain is just a drizzle. We can tuck in down here later if we don't find a better spot. Look at all the cabinets. I want to see if he did what I'm thinking and the cabinets actually hold the features of the room."

He takes your hand and helps you climb some narrow, tall steps to another room that ends up being quite large. You’re not sure what he’s looking for so you follow him as he starts exploring.

You can’t help but look forward to the part where you tuck in together as your mind wanders back to how good it felt to be in his arms.

The first cabinet he opens looks like a pantry with roll out shelves, but the second has a part that folds out into a good sized table. The cabinet next to it holds the accompanying chairs. "I knew it!" he says triumphantly. "This guy was a genius!"

“It’s amazing,” you agree, squeezing his hand. With your other hand you reach out and run your hand over the wood. It’s polished perfectly, soft and smooth. “I wonder if there’s a bed hidden in one of these things?”

I'm sure there is in one of the "rooms". This looks like the kitchen and family common area. I suspect he has a Murphy bed in one of the cabinets. Maybe up this next level..." He pulls you with him and has you start up the next set of carved steps.

You climb up the steep steps and you can already feel your calves starting to protest but it doesn’t seem to phase him at all. There’s a bit of a sort of hallway and then another couple steps up into a smaller room, with beautiful dark wood carvings.

He looks around carefully then goes to the largest cabinet and carefully undoes the clasp over the edge. You wonder why such a large cabinet seems so shallow inside until you see him unlatching something from either side at the top and realize what it is. He catches the weight of the double bed and lowers it to the floor. It still has a mattress on it. "Obviously this is the master bedroom," he says with that hint of awe still in his voice.

“It’s so wonderful,” you say taking it all in. The work is so well done you can see why he wanted to find this place so much. You wonder if he does any wood work himself. “Do you think it’s still okay to sleep on?”

He plops down on it. "The mattress feels to be in good condition.  He may have had it made special out of really long lasting materials of some sort and the bed itself is solid. Everything seems to have been treated to withstand the elements. The floors, the furniture, the built-ins...everything, we should be nice and cozy in here tonight."

You laugh softly and smile. “Are you sure? I didn’t snore or kick or anything last night? I could see if I could find my own hidden bed…” You’re partly teasing but part of you does want to make sure.

"What?!  No, you were a perfect lady," he winks. “Of course you're bunking with me. We need to keep each other warm don't we?" He reaches out and brushes the stray hair out of your face.

Your smile widens and you lean into his touch unconsciously. “Yes. I hate being cold so I very much need you to keep warm. I have to admit it was pretty comfy too.”

He grins at you. "Good, it's settled then. We're sleeping up here tonight. There's a lot more roof here too, so we'll be plenty dry." He yanks you down beside him on the mattress. "See how comfortable it is?"

You laugh softly. “Well we’ll have to fully test it out to see.” You scoot back to lay down on the bed and tug on his hand to come with you.

He doesn't even hesitate scooting back right beside you. He props his head up on his hand looking down at you and slides his other arm around your waist.  "Just us two sleeping up in the magical treehouse." He smiles at you softly.

“I couldn’t imagine anything better. I can hardly believe even this.” His arm feels perfect around your waist and you reach up to slide your hand over his jaw.

The stubble feels prickly and kind of sensual under your hand, just reminding you how much you already like every part of him. His dark hazel eyes swirl with emotion in their depths as he watches you.

For a moment you’re mesmerized, but then you can’t resist anymore and you urge him closer, shifting toward him, hoping to draw him closer for a kiss but giving him a chance to pull away.

He looks into your eyes for a long moment then slowly lowers his head until his lips brush lightly against yours. A little tentative at first but then warming as he lets himself feel completely. His tongue slides over yours exploring then swirling possessively as he deepens the kiss.

A soft little sound of want escapes you and you wrap your arms around his broad shoulders. He’s so warm, almost hot to the touch and you wonder what it would feel like to have all of his bare skin next to yours. You open completely for him, as his tongue swirls again.

He holds the kiss till you're almost breathless then slowly pulls back. "Mmmm...you taste like wild clover honey. But...I'd better see to getting what we need for the night and maybe see if there's a way to heat our supper. Maybe save that taste of honey for dessert." He finally pushes up and scoots down to the edge to stand up then reaches a hand out to help you up.

You feel dazed for a moment but then take his strong hand to let him pull you up. “I am getting hungry I suppose,” you smile, standing up and dusting yourself off. “But I’m really looking forward to dessert.”

ipre theater thots

loosely based off of this poll. sorry, this got away from me. i was a theater kid for years (i still am, i literally made a bunch of friends larp as wizards two weeks ago)

Davenport: Producer and Stage Manager. Personally more experienced in opera than musicals, but answers the call when the need for a manager arises. Keeps everyone focused and on schedule. Has final word on what choices the art department gets to make. Sometimes does solo performances on his own time.

Merle: Choreographer and Director. Leads the ensemble into meditation every rehearsal before warming up. Talks with each member of the cast one-on-one. Sometimes leaves the script open to interpretation. His artistic vision sounds bonkers in concept, but illuminating in execution. Why are there so many plants? Don't worry about it.

Magnus: Lead Actor and Set Builder. He brings the energy every single night. He doesn't need to be micc'ed up because his natural voice projects well enough. It takes a bit of time for him to memorize the script, but he devotes his heart and soul to it. He claps loudly for the ensemble when he's in the wings. He cries at the emotional numbers. Built all the sets by hand.

Lucretia: Co-stage Manager and Supporting Actor (not for lack of chops, only because she spreads herself very thin.) Knows the script like a second language. Mainly reserves her Director Voice for backstage when things get chaotic. Enjoys performing the musical numbers because no one knows she can belt, until she does. Standing ovation girlie, but bashful about it.

Lup: Co-lead Lead Actor and Costumer. Only willing to do the role if Davenport lets her include cold sparks and fog machines in the set budget (he finds a way.) No one knows when she took measurements for the costumes, but they're ready by dress rehearsal and they fit perfectly. Helps the other actors figure out their groove. Great at engaging the audience.

Angus (special edition): Child lead and stagehand. The sweetest little singing voice you ever did hear. Everyone is going to rue the day his voice starts cracking. A heartbreaker of a performer and a speedy backstage assistant.

Taako: A MYSTERY. He's wearing a fancy scarf and roaming all over the place. He's talking about the Art of the Theatre. He's listed on the billing of lead actors and NO ONE knows what his role is. He remembers all the little things that everyone forgets: clothes pins, a hot glue gun, and electrolytes. He's got a walkie-talkie. Only the managers and tech are supposed to have walkie-talkies. Hello, this is Taako speaking, over.

Barry: Usually Tech. He's got a beautifully choreographed queue of lighting designs and stage effects. He's got an immaculately labeled pad controller and a ready-to-go Excel spreadsheet. But on opening night, Lucretia informs him he's in the orchestra pit.

Barry: ...But I'm lighting tonight.

Lucretia (via walkie-talkie): And our percussionist twisted his ankle tripping over a stage light. You're in the orchestra now, compadre.

Barry: (with increasing emphasis, decreasing conviction) But. I'm. Light. Tech.

Taako: E N T E R T H E P I T B A R O L D

Davenport: Taako, get off this line.

During intermission, Magnus asks him to help lift the ensemble dancers onto the set scaffolding, and hold it steady. Barry agrees, thinking he's in the clear after that. But the second the music number ends, Merle tells him that one of the support roles had to leave, so now he's the understudy.

Barry (longsuffering): I am just. the light guy.

Merle (gesturing to Taako in the balcony, having a ballgame playing with the lightboard): well, in two minutes you're the showstopper guy, so you need to go out there and stop the show

Lup (emerging from nowhere, slapping a red, hooded robe on Barold's shoulders): Knock 'em dead!

so like one of my absolute FAVE indulgent AUs for fantasy characters is modern corporate, or like. cocktail party. And most of the characters I love would generally wear nice tailored pants suits (Jaina, Alleria, Tracer, Moira, etc, etc), but then there's, like, Tyrande and nelves who would definitely be wearing the tiniest, slinkiest little sprayed on dresses with their enormous fucking muscles everywhere but perfect jewellery and hair and nails and heels like those female body builders who really like girly things but look like beautiful glazed walnuts

The AU where the 203rd are people IRL in college.

Tanya:

The tomboy. Straight A student. Lowkey trouble maker. Technically doesn’t break any rules. Grew up in foster care and food insecure. Graduated HS early and started going to college at 16. Was kicked out of her foster home when she turned 18. Has the bad habit of hoarding food and checking the refrigerator and cabinets every half hour when at home. Uses men’s 5 in 1 soap. Is somehow the mom friend of the group. Is both an early bird and a night owl yet somehow still functions. Bit of a coffee snob and only drinks the coffee that Visha makes. Looks like they could kill you and could actually kill you.

Visha:

Is the country girl from Texas that came to the big city. The girly girl that loves wearing pastel. Is the little sister of the group. Works as a barista. The extrovert that adopted the introverts and formed the friend group. Protective of Tanya. Grew up on the ranch in the middle of nowhere so is stronger than she looks. Lowkey the most dangerous in the friend group. Fast draw record is .38 seconds. Looks like a cinnamon roll but could actually kill you.

Weiss:

The frat boy with a heart of gold. Military brat so moved constantly. Joined the military at 18 so they’d pay for his college education. Can be overly earnest. Volunteers for community service and donates food. Good grades but started studying with Tanya to get better. Had a rough childhood so empathizes with Tanya with their shared struggles. Looks like they could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll.

Grantz:

The average joe. Had a mostly normal life and comes from a middle class family. Is the middle child of three siblings. Tanya simultaneously reminds him of his older brother and little sister which weirds him out though he understands that it’s because she grew up quicker because of her bad childhood. Lowkey crushing on Visha. Looks like a cinnamon roll and is actually a cinnamon roll.

Neumann:

The stoner. Loves baking and cooking. Gives lots of food to his friends especially Tanya. Has exotic pets like lizards and snakes. A tad chubby yet deceptively strong. Is a body builder and has a scholarship. Is a gentle giant. Could kill you by feeding you too many cinnamon rolls.

Koenig:

The quiet guy. Very little is know about him. Is part of the fencing team and has a scholarship. Lives with his grandma and is her caretaker. Is secretly a weeb and loves anime. Has been teaching Tanya how to fight. Is a bit of a survivalist and occasionally gets into arguments with Weiss about his latest “military grade” survival gear. Looks like they could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll.

They all love paintball and have a team called the “Salamanders”.

look. this is how it's going to go. i'm going to say myrtle/tom riddle AU, you're going to say 'are you right in the head you're a canon compliant girlie kindly get a grip on yourself'. but then you're going to click the link, and read it, and then you'll be chuckling and filled with boundless delight and want to read this stonkingly well-written properly funny rich magical little fic all over again as soon as you've finished and you'll have me to thank for it. it's a rom-com, people. dare you not to be enchanted. their ship name is literally tyrtle? the tag is 'she said: I can fix him! and she's right'. (and then you're going to read this hinny one, also by @saintsenara as a gift to me as a delectable chaser and lose your mind!)

remember when i was like, AUs, not my bag! and then i read a load of AUs and realised i was talking out of my arse? weird. anyway, here is a lovely little hinny AU that i've gone back to a bunch because it's just really beautifully written and deeply charming and actually does something a lot of muggle AUs don't always do, which is play with harry's characterisation ever so deftly to say, hey, harry is harry, but if nothing bad had happened to him and james and lily lived, he'd be a little bit different, wouldn't he? this harry is our harry, but he's just that bit more confident, that bit more capable of digging an active flirt out of his back pocket. and that makes me happy!

The Last Something That Meant Anything by anonymous (Percy POV, Percy/Audrey and Percy/Oliver, short multichapter, 21k, completed)

i have a lot of percy thoughts these days. fanon percy, steeped in weasley bashing, doesn't do very much for me, so i really loved this belter of a percy character study that considers him both within and apart from his family in a way that attends to his trauma and inner life, but also shows the truth: he's not doing well, he does fuck up with a big moral lapse, and then he has work to do - interesting, deep, personal work - to make it right. please check the tags with this one, as it does contain reference to SA, but really do recommend a read if you feel able.

this brilliant short fic really left me with so many sirius feelings: it just gets the claustrophobia and the grief of sirius' last year alive exactly right, and it just has these fabulous cameos that have detonated a thousand deep sirius thought bombs in my head forever. l o v e d it

harry/ginny AU, where harry goes to stonewall high and meets ginny at a party. it's so tender and beautiful and stiff and sad and understated, and it's really stayed with me. also it does what all good hinny fics must do (have them chatting. just talking, hanging out, shooting the shit together. they just love to chat, those two lil magnets snapping to each other).

empire builders by she-crow (Prongsfoot, possibly canon-compliant but technically AU I guess, 25k oneshot)

i read this laid out beside a lake and needed at least four more days of lying by a lake to think about it. it's a) one of the most beautiful fics i've ever read b) rip your heart out and staple it heart-wrenching and good and c) some of the best sirius and james characterisations i've read that really serves as a manifesto for playing around with marauders multiships to really different characters in such different lights. the other beauty of it is that it could be canon-compliant? like it could be read as a fabulous doomed tragic love affair between two boys completely infatuated with each other and not sure where to put it. and i think that's kind of gorgeous. so yeah uhh big fan

this is a fic told through (very funny) little notes on the ravenclaw bulletin board. been thinking a lot about different house dynamics atm and this a) made me laugh out loud and b) really think, you know who is really sound? those ravenclaw kids. love those bookworms. the crookshanks and fred and george cameos really make this, too. you'll zip through it and you'll giggle. there's nothing more to it!

Writing

other than this birthday microfic for mr potter, a bit of tinkering and dawdling with other misc projects that i pick up and put down over and over again, and my usual meta nonsense, i've just been writing Beasts! put four chapters out since last check-in, and am hard at work on chapter eight, which has some of my favourite scenes in the fic so far. we're gearing up for some chapters away from the castle (writing the winter break chapters in august. what am i like!) and some scenes i've been sat on for ages and some others that i'm having so so so much fun writing. i'm a michael corner stan now? who knew?

She lugs the trunk off the bus at the final stop and traipses around the warren of streets in Soho for a while, looking for the address written on the piece of parchment clutched in her hand. Finally, she finds the building, battered door with the doorbell hanging half off, and stands awkwardly in the street, catching her breath, until the machine crackles and a familiar deep voice says: ‘Hello?’ 'Hi, it’s me.’ She clears her throat. ‘It’s Ginny, I mean.’  ‘Oh, hi. Come on up.’  The hallway has an unmistakably damp, squat-like feel about it. Loud laughter spills out of the flat on the first floor, and a group of uni students, squabbling amicably among themselves, parade past her on the second floor staircase as she rings the doorbell and loiters in the corridor, feeling hopelessly out of place. ‘Your hair’s so nice!’ one girl with thick black boots and a face full of piercings says admiringly as she passes by, just as the door to the flat swings open.  ‘Oh, good, you found it. I wasn’t sure you’d be able to.’ ‘Why wouldn’t I be able to?’ Michael rolls his eyes. ‘You know, Ginny, seen as it's Christmas, maybe we could try not to argue before you’ve even set foot in my flat.'

This one is so tough!! If I'm being honest, the piece that kept my writing brain alive this year was by @oviandoviagain - it's their short story about the princess and the dragon egg (I can't describe it fully cause it's NSFW). Lives in my head rent free forever despite being like a thousand words or so long. I ASPIRE to this power

hey girlie, hope you're doing well; having a good day/night:

i wanted to ask if you could give any advice with building and landscaping? i've always been a huge fan of your sim style, and i'm currently looking to get into building myself.

was there any videos you watched or accounts that were able to help you jump wholeheartedly into the wonderful world of build/buy mode?

hi! i could go on and on about this topic so thanks for asking. last year i wrote about building here, if you recall. since that one was more about "vibe" maybe this one should be a little more technical? idk, i'm a dreamy creative so i'm sure this'll get emotional anyway lol.

i suggest picking a world or architectural style and let one inform the other. then research that style, look at floor plans and dive into pinterest for a while before you start building. if you don't already have one, get one and go collecting inspiration that you can reference later. here's mine, if you wanna check it out.

when landscaping i think about two key things: what style of gardening goes with this build (manicured, overgrown, minimal, etc) and i consider the trees and/or flowers i see in the world around my lot. i'll incorporate some to blend on and off-lot gardening. and i can't emphasize enough how important terrain painting is! in my opinion it really anchors everything down. for example, i paint all around and under landscaped areas, trees, the entire perimeter of the house/buildings, and anything else like pools, decks, driveways. it creates depth and makes it look like these things are really sprouting out of the ground. also paths! even if you don't have stones laid down, think about the routes sims will take to get from one place to another, like from the back porch to the pool, the marks little sneakers leave under the swing set when simmies play, from the mudroom to the trash bins by the garage. grass thins out and you'll see some dirt showing through regularly trodden routes, so paint those on to make the area look lived in.

the simpler the floor plan, the better. even if you pick a floor plan that's complicated, simplify it. you don't need a garage? remove it or convert it into something else. too many little rooms and hallways? open up those spaces or take them out entirely and push the necessary rooms you want to keep into that area. you'll find your builds will be much easier to play in this way and it won't take sims hours to get to the kitchen or up the stairs.

i have general dimensions for rooms that really work for me: kitchen 5x6, 6x6, 6x7 dining 4x5, 5x5, 5x6 living 5x6, 6x6, 6x7 half bath 2x2, 2x3 full bath 3x4, 4x4 owner's suite 5x6, 6x6 bedrooms 4x5, 5x5 hallways 2 spaces wide

maybe a bit tricky, but think about adding rooms in the roof. a play room, guest room, second living room, or office space. hell, even just an attic you can convert later as your family grows. when building attics, i'll lay out the roof design first and then see where i can build rooms inside. for easier gameplay you'll want to then break down the roof into sections so when you lower the walls you can see inside and the camera won't bounce around.

twistedmexi's TOOL mod is an absolute gamechanger and i highly recommend using it to expand your lot outside the lines. EA has decorated the world outside of your lot with fences and other features that suggest you can absolutely push things further. i'll setup whatever i want outside the lot inside my grid first and then move it all out together. i do this for play areas, picnic tables and umbrellas, firepits and seating. i'll put cars parallel parked on the road or in the driveway EA has provided. and don't forget about debug items like electrical poles, post boxes, bus stops, fire hydrants and other stuff you'd see around a neighborhood.

i'm subscribed to a handful builders on youtube that i'll watch from time to time. it's great to see what other folks are doing because this community is so creative and you'd be surprised the little tricks you'll pick up. these are some of my favorite builders: simproved, simsphony, plumbob kingdom, simcubeez, bojana sims.

if you have any more questions on specifics or want an actual tutorial on something, don't hesitate to ask! and that goes for anyone reading this very long-winded post. kudos if you made it this far!

adam terraria: starts a new world every week bc it forgets what he's supposed to be doing next and it never occurs to him to look it up. bro doesn't even know the wiki Exists. never gets to hardmode bc he insists on playing master difficulty and also is bad at the game minecraft: exclusively plays creative mode in superflat worlds. makes ugly box structures out of diamond blocks and performs horrible labrat experiments on mobs in them

jonah terraria: almost exclusively plays journey mode! makes it his mission every time to 100% the research catalogue. the collection aspect of it tickles something in their brain minecraft: exclusively plays modded with like 20 different incredibly complicated tech mods tht each have a 200 page user manual . and also tinker's construct. they r a pro at it

mark terraria: gets to hardmode on expert mode, delves into the underground hallow bc he's excited to explore, gets jumpscared by a naturally spawning hallowed mimic and has a fucking heart attack minecraft: mark operates out of a dirt hut and yknow what fuck you they like it that way. brother rocking the greentop with the oak door. half the floor is gravel. no glass or trap doors for windows, just 1 block holes in the walls and one of the "windows" is blocked by a double chest. fully enchanted netherite and elytra btw

cesar has never played a video game. walks in2 marks room like are ya winnin, bro?

sarah terraria: plays w so many mods and texture packs the game is nigh unrecognizable. plays exclusively master mode and turns on every 'challenge' difficulty that comes with the mods at once bc she's seen the face of god and it was weeping minecraft: girlie is in the minigame servers. find sarah doing tnt run at 3 am she is going for it . good for her

evelin terraria: actually a pretty good builder. uses the wiki as a guide for npc happiness and builds little towns for them. beat moonlord like 2 months ago and just keeps going back to the same world to build stuff minecraft: plays adventure maps bc she thinks they're fun. evelin has played every minecraft horror adventure map that exists. i think she would love terra swoop force too dave terraria: once he gets far enough in a world to get access to wiring it's all over. spends the rest of the game trying to build machines to instant-ko bosses, with varying degrees of success. a master of the hoik minecraft: you know those videos that are like. using redstone to play minecraft in minecraft. yeah ruth terraria: plays vanilla summoner class in master mode for the worthy seed. she is god's strongest soldier and baby she's going for terraprisma. minecraft: spends the entire first night punching skeletons and creepers to death with her bare steve fists. has that Totally Legit Speedrun luck and finds everything she needs just from running around and raiding generated structures

thatcher terraria: terrible at building but god bless he's trying. favorite part of the game is old one's army, and she spends hours grinding to collect all of the sentries and the armor sets. somehow gets spawn camped by a crawdad and cries minecraft: keeps forgetting that you shouldn't make eye contact with endermen and it scares the shit out of her every time. is prone to lava-based mining incidents

How has your "Sims style" changed throughout your years of playing?

When I first started playing the Sims I would play as god controlling every little action and decision of my Sims, but that got very repetitive and boring. Now I play more wants based and I have the autonomy very high so my sims are free to do and be who they want. It has made playing the game so much more enjoyable. let the randomizer button be your bestie people!!

i hate when my sims die.. i can honestly say i’ve never forcefully killed any of my sims as I get so attached to them. in this case, id probably say death by old age.

barely lol. sometimes i post occasional things for dl. my knowledge of cc making only scratches the surface. i can do the basics like make poses, and custom photos (alongside sims and builds - but who doesnt).

ive tried to get into cc making a couple of times but its so complicated? i have mad respect for cc makers in the community. ill leave that job to the professionals.

back in my day... lol not so much anymore. after i took a fat hiatus a lot of the people i used to regularly talk with moved on.

yes.. i am embarrassed to say that when ts4 was release i pre-ordered the deluxe version. it came with a mouse pad.. its long gone now. but i always remember it having a funky smell ??

i'd like to think it has! considering my blog is old, i feel like it has grown with me and that reflects in the style of my sims. recently ive been striving for a slightly more realistic looks to my sims

I had to check my email for this.. as of feb 2023, my blog turned 9 years old?! so I guess almost 10 years. (thats kind of mad)

How do you edit your pictures?

depends on the picture! usually for scenery pics I will just sharpen them and adjust the brightness / saturation / contrast.

for sim pics it really just depends on how bothered I can be.

I’ve recently made the change to gshade so that’s been doing all the heavy lifting for me.

I use hunnybee’s moon syrups preset <3

What expansion/ stuff pack is your favourite?

university life!! it was the it was the first expansion pack i got and so it holds a special place in my heart. its also a pretty awesome pack too.

Favorite mod ? I’d die without UI cheats and MC command center, but gameplay wise I would say pregnancy and family overhaul!

Um. What's your headcanons on what kind of games (videogames, tabletop, whatever) do you think each one of the mekadan is into? I think i went into a lot of detail already regarding Shintaro and Kano (so sorry for projecting into them sksksksksskssk), but i really would like to know what another would think? Feel free to go into as much detail on Takane as you wish, you deserve it and i live to hear your rambles on her.

god i actually dont know bc im not a gamer girlie like miss cyber girl ene... i think takane plays everything pretty much. ofc more the shooters as we know but is probably pretty knowledgeable on a bunch of things, i think she especially loves horror and based on her canon fave movies (the godfather 2 and the clockwork orange) she's probably rly into games with an ongoing story, abt crime specifically. like yakuza and gta and all that stuff

amongus hibiya is real to me. he is real. i made a comic abt it about how takane teaches him to use his phone and he becomes irremediably obsessed with among us

i dont think seto plays any videogames and he gets frustrated easily when he plays with everyone. when mekatrio+ayano mario kart he is dead last like TRAGICALLY last. kano i dont have strong opinions but i liked ur hcs about him being into strategy games and hiding it a bit. i also think he'd like graphic novels... and he'd be the kind to watch lets plays instead of actually playing a game too. also hiyori i dont see her playing anything. maybe the sims too bc the awesomest girls play the sims

for haruka he rly plays everything like same as takane theyre the gamer couple ok. they play every single game ever and probably make icebergs together abt obscure videogames. they look for the weirdest most obscure game they can find and just do that for a friday night activity. other than that i think haruka also rly enjoys games like animal crossing and the sims and stardew valley etc. like for takane i think she plays those but gets bored pretty easy she just speedruns thru them and is frustrated theres no action and haruka Gets it more. though they both love minecraft❤️ the yuukei quartet minecraft server is real because it meets all of their conditions for games. i think ayano and shintaro want creative mode because theyre both into making their houses and being at peace and dont want Scary Surprises while haruka and takane prefer survival bc THATS GAMING!! so they always argue abt it lol. i think ayano could be into survival too but i think her reflexes suck LOL SHE JUST WANTS TO MAKE A TREE HOUSE.

haruka mentions being a little baby abt zombies so hes a baby abt horror to me. but he also says he pretty much gets over it after getting addicted to dead bullet soooo i think he can also enjoy horror games, just maybe not by himself. i think haruka and takane choose some horror game and keep arguing about the lights because haruka wants them on cuz hes scared and takane wants them off because That's How Horror Games Are Meant To Be Played

shintaro is a mix of everything mentioned here tbh. except horror. he cannot do horror. like Ok *SITS DOWN AND GRABS THE MIC* IT IS HEAVILY IMPLIED IF NOT CONFIRMED (NEVER SEEN IT CONFIRMED) THAT HE'S THE FIRST PLACE WINNER IN THE NATIONALS FOR DEAD BULLET THAT TAKANE WAS SECOND FOR. HOWEVER IN THE SIXTH NOVEL HARUKA MENTIONS SHINTARO NEVER PLAYED DEAD BULLET BECAUSE HE'S SCARED OF ZOMBIES SO IT'S LIKE. SHINTARO IS NOT THE DAMN DEAD BULLET WINNER?? HES GOOD AT SHOOTERS BUT HE ISNT INTO HORROR SHOOTERS. I KNOW ITS PROBABLY ONE OF THOSE INCONSISTENCIES OF MANY WHERE KAGEPRO IS WRITTEN BY 1 GUY DURING A LONG TIME SO ITS NORMAL TO HAVE SHIT LIKE THIS, THERES LIKE THREE YEARS BETWEEN SECOND NOVEL HEADPHONE ACTOR AND SIXTH NOVEL OVER THE DIMENSION SO I GET IT I GET IT. HOWEVER. SHINTARO BEATING TAKANE IS A HUGE PART OF THE YUUKEI YESTERDAY ARC ITS A BIT IN THE NOVELS THAT IS ADAPTATED IN BOTH ANIME AND MANGA ITS HUGE. AND JIN THEN JUST... WRITES THAT SHINTARO ACTUALLY NEVER PLAYED DEAD BULLET?? THEN WHAT WAS THE IMPLICATION THAT SHINTARO WAS #1 FOR?? this is all to say. TAKANE SHOULD'VE BEEN #1.
