Tui T. Sutherland: Aside from her gold scales and lack of a tail bard, Sunny is almost indistinguishable from a regular SandWing; it’s hard to tell she’s half NightWing at all!

WoF petrigrof time!!! (explanations sortof below the cut!!!)
Tumblr media
(please ignore the missing tailfins i haven't the strength to go back and add them pretend they're there)
AAHH THIS WAS SO FUN TO DO!!! I LOVE DESIGNING THINGS AND THEORIZING!!! CHARACTER DESIGN IS LITERALLY MY FAVORITE EVER!!!
but! now to explain myself!! I made Simon (Salmon :3) a Seawing and Betty (unsure of a name just yet) a Silkwing!!
Simon was made into a Seawing because:
• sad wet cat/fish.
• scholar! i find seawings to be one of the most academic tribes second to (ancient) nightwings.
• blues/purples look nice on him i feel!
now, why Betty is a Silkwing:
• "why you so bug girl"
• she was originally either a sand or sky, but i wanted to play around with silk because i never do! and it just fit! she also didn't feel sky to me, but sand it 100% a runner up. (was tempted to make her a hybrid)
• i feel like her silk will really assist in her look as GOLBetty? (bug eyes)
now i'm going to spout random nonsense out of nowhere!!!
Simon and his curse would be 100% just another pyrite/hailstorm. i love the very idea of that. i feel it's very fitting. the crown would turn him into an icewing, (obviously) and when the curse is undone, queue "part of the madness" up partner
that scene where Betty ties IK up to perform the spell thing (i'm sorry i am not well versed) friends SHE USED HER SILK.
okay now i'm out of ideas for now EXPECT MORE!!! I LOVE DRAWING THEM AND PLEASE ALSO IF YOU HAVE AN IDEA ON BETTY NAME PLEEEASEE LMK
Have a wonderful day/evening folks!!!!! take care!!!!

Coming out of my cave to post art on here again
I'm trying ( heavy emphasis on trying 😭 ) to make designs for every arc 1 WoF character, and since mudwings are the easiest tribe for me to draw I started with clay and his siblings
Their shapes and stuff make sense in my head and have reasonings but I can't put them into words rghHHgdgGGRRRghhgfh
CHARACTERS; CLAY [ TOP LEFT ] , SORA [BOTTOM LEFT ] , UMBER [ TOP RIGHT ] , REED [ BOTTOM RIGHT ]
Tumblr media
For Clay I wanted to make him simple, going along with him not thinking that he's anything special and not fit for the prophecy. He's still brighter than his sibs though, and has the brightest colored scales before his underbelly. (Do those have a name?? )
For Sora I wanted her kinda deer-like, with softer/less bold edges than the others. She has a scar in the same place Crane's death wound was.
For Umber I just stuck pretty closely to the canon design, adding some splotches and giving him a different shape than the others.
Finally, for Reed I just made him clay but duller, and more red. He nearly looks just like clay shape-wise, but is more inward. (I have no idea how to describe this 😭)
CHARACTERS; MARSH [ TOP LEFT ] , PHEASANT [ BOTTOM LEFT ] , CRANE [ BOTTOM RIGHT ]
Tumblr media
I had the most fun with these guys can u tell
For Marsh I made him more sharp and edgy than the others to go with his anxious personality. His colors are very similar to Clay's, but he has splotches and light colored horns. (I love Marsh, he's underappreciated)
For Pheasant I wanted to base her off of a pheasant. Her markings are similar to those of a ring-necked pheasant, with her reds being the same as Umber's. She originally had green-ish yellow on her to go with her eyes (and also because pheasants have green on them) but I couldn't get it to work. (crying spongebob image) Her shape is more 'elegant' than her sibs. I think her design is my favorite out of all of these.
For Crane I based her lightly off of a crane. (🤯🤯🤯) She shares colors with sora and umber. (Sora because obviously, Umber because I needed his reds 😁) since really all we know about her is that she was protective of her sibs (as literally all of them are) I made her fierce and determined looking. Version without her death wound below
I got more confident in not following the canon designs super closely the more designs I made and it shows 😭😭 I never realized how much variety you can make in mudwings despite them being the 'boring' ones
adding image ID/alt texts tomorrow I needed to post this before I forgor but it's almost 12 and im tired goodnight jasper fans

I've been meaning to do my own interpretation of the WoF designs for a while now and I got inspired by this to do my own take on Rainwings. So yeah here's Glory because she's still my favorite character aside from maybe Sundew. Design notes: -Both her and LeafWings are wyverns in my design forms. I'm considering making the SkyWings wyverns as well but that'd contrast with their firebreathing. -Tiger/panther like heads. They live in the jungle after all. -Large feathery ears, cheeks and ruffs. Feathers can "poof" for expressions. -Fangs look like those of a Smilodon, but a bit shorter. They can also move slightly like those of a Chinese water deer. -Front paws have semi-retractable claws. Hind legs are birdlike and don't talons don't retract. -Wings are birdlike, sans the paws. -Literally everything can change color except their claws, whiskers and teeth. Even things such as eyes/inner ears/lips/nose and inner mouth can change color. -Kept their prehensile tails. -No spikes or horns to speak of. -Everyone has a default color palette, but they don't have a set set or markings. It takes effort to replicate the exact same color-and-markings pattern. -Herbivore molars because most RainWings are vegetarians. I may do more species re-imagined! Or just more RainWings since they're fun to figure out and draw. [ ID: A creative interpretation of a RainWing dragon from Wings of Fire, or rather, a wyvern in this case. Set against a white background are two drawings, one headshot on the left and a fullbody on the right. The creature depicted looks looksely like a wyvern; but with a tiger’s head; huge feathery ears; a feathery ruff, feathered wings, bird hind legs and a long, prehensile tail. The dragon, Glory, has pronounced fangs similar to that of a Smilodon and is very colorful, with the most notable colors being green, blue and varying shades of orange. The headshot on the left has a relaxed looking expression, whereas the fullbody is in a roaring position and shows the RainWing shooting corrosive venom from its fangs. It says “Glory” in green handwriting above the fullbody drawing. End ID. ]

Here is my absolute favorite character from Wings of Fire and she is mentioned in literally like, a sentence - Queen Anaconda of the RainWings! Canonically, Anaconda is a RainWing Queen in Darkstalker’s time. That's it! That's all we know! Which means, of course, this is My City Now. Anaconda is considered elderly, around 150 years old, but she is still a force to be reckoned with in battle. She is cunning, with a talent for planning ambush attacks and other traps, and the rain forest is nearly impenetrable to invaders while under her rule. That's not to say she's battle-hungry; her only goal is to keep her people and her territory safe. She's also a lesbian, and her wife's name is Leopard. They're very happy together for all of their very long lives. This is a part of that draw-every-WoF-character thing I've been slogging through, now with a fancy new name and a tag! Check it out, maybe draw some characters yourself, go wild - All WoF Characters (#WoFCharacterChallenge) !

What do you guys think of cringe culture? I remember writing up my own dragons for WOF when I read it a lil while back, and I found a few of the drawings and I kinda cringed but remember how happy I was and I kinda wanna go back to it (mildly nervous of what ppl would think but still)
oh you have come to the right person for cringe culture talk
short answer:
it’s stupid, fake, and all-around bad
long answer, and boy is it long:
the problem with cringe culture is that is almost inevitably directed at children having harmless fun. think of something cringey; chances are, you thought of “ten year old’s bad op oc” before, for example, “40 year old man getting into debates about anime on the internet”*. chew on that for a sec. why is a child having innocent fun…
…a bad thing?
it’s really not! like, children interacting with their favorite media(s) by making a character - often a self-insert, we’ve all been there - is literally enjoying the story so much that they want to be a part of it. that’s good! that’s GREAT, even! that’s a sign you’re doing a damn good job as a writer / artist / filmmaker / etc - your fans are so hyped about your world that they’d want to exist in it.
but then the people in fandom who have already learned that OCs To Have Fun With Are Bad** pass that lesson on to the next decade of tweens who made something for themselves and had the judgement of the digital world come down on it like the hand of god.
my first notable ocs were;
- a silver dragon, who could heal herself from the brink of death because she drank from a pool of molten silver, who also lost an eye and was super scarred because she was always getting in fights to do good. she had extensive, elaborate, unnecessary adventures and, of course, a tragic parenthood arc because i had been reading warriors books
- a half-dragon, half-pegasus mlp oc who literally angsted so badly he unleashed town-flattening destructive power that was absolutely never explained, and then died, and then ended up alive again because i decided that was too sad. this was the entirety of his story.
- a human who drops out of school and drives away to a nearby town, where she’s given shelter by an elderly werewolf woman, falls in love with the werewolf’s adult granddaughter, and they open a small town cafe where they all live happily ever after, as far as life allows. the physical manifestation of Death is also there.
those can all be very cringe if looked at by someone who wants them to be. but, of course, with only a few alterations you could plausibly use these descriptions on the superhero Wolverine, Anakin Skywalker, and… well, okay, I can’t think of an equivalent for the last one because I’m making the gay fantasy slice of life book I want to see in the world, but 2/3 isn’t too bad. it probes my point, which is, essentially:
when the ‘cringey’ ideas are done by skilled producers and are meant to be seen and responded to by the world, cough and the characters are straight white cis men cough people will accept them.
when the ‘cringey’ ideas are done by children or other, less skilled creators, generally for a small audience or just to self-indulge, and don’t say minority content doesn’t play a part here bc it often is included as cringe for being minority, people will make entire blogs dedicated to mocking them for not being up to the same standard that their million-dollar-production-value source material has.
basically what im getting at here is like… the only cringey thing about cringe culture is that people still use the term, like, genuinely. it’s fake! you’re just putting a goofy name on mocking children on the internet! bake a cake or something!
so long as it’s not hurting anybody, what’s the hecking point in acting like it’s the end of the world that someone has an oc with a rare pigment mutation and powers unexpected for their species and has an angsty backstory where their family cast them out***?
if what you’re doing isn’t harmful, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about. if you love something, love it. just don’t expect to be catered to if it’s not a media directed at you**** and don’t get in the way of the actual target audience enjoying it*****.
just be normal! just be a person enjoying something. i assure you that such a thing happens all the time. there are people who like star wars that don’t know what the word fandom means, and god some days i wish i were them.
*adults doing freaky shit are, in fact, the only people who deserve the term
**they have often learned this by being a part of the decade prior to the one that they are teasing. anyone who gets super upset about “””cringey””” ocs more than 10 years after having that phase needs to turn off the computer and go for a walk
***just so none of you get any ideas, this sentence is genuinely me describing one of my current OCs, Drifter
****looking at you, bronies
*****also looking at bronies; there used to be a designated safe search cleanup event bc of all the nsfw content of cute cartoon horses. as far as i know, this has not changed.

back at it again with wof designs hi guys
i've always struggled with drawing nightwings for some reason, so if these look wonky i'm sorry 😭 (they're literally like. my 3rd favorite pyrrhian tribe but i can't draw them for the life of me)
i was gonna do only arc 1 characters but i kinda gave up on that so
i meant to make a version of starflight with the burn scars but i forgor 😭😭
Tumblr media
Morrowseer being red-ish just makes sense to me, Stonemover is described as being similar to the desert night sky or something so he's more yellow/brown toned
Top right - Starflight
Top left - Mastermind
Left - Morrowseer
Right - Moon
Left - Fierceteeth
Right - Darkstalker
Bottom left - Battlewinner
Bottom right - Stonemover
