cw: discussion of past suicide attempts
~
Maybe Scott shouldn't have chosen Heathers.
But somehow, in his long life of being queer, Jimmy hadn't ever seen it.
"You're literally bisexual and you haven't seen it?" Scott had asked, astonished. At Jimmy's nod, he added, "It's the most bi movie ever. And I could sing the musical all day, too, but musicals based on movies are always better than the movies based on musicals—"
"What's so important about it?" Jimmy had interjected, one brow raised, and Scott couldn't help but feel a flurry of pride at how much Jimmy had opened up over the past months.
"You'll just have to watch it and see," Scott told him, so here they are, three days later, Scott on his end of the sofa and Jimmy on the other, a bowl of popcorn (that Jimmy rarely takes from) between them.
It's not a date, Scott reminds himself repeatedly. It's just a movie night between him and his ward. No, a movie night between him and his friend. Jimmy holds no romantic feelings for him. And he doesn't have any for Jimmy.
Lies.
But they're watching, volume lower than what Scott would normally watch a movie with (loud noises make Jimmy jump, and subtitles are readily available), and Jimmy seems to be enjoying it. He lets out a little laugh at all the right places, and rolls his eyes at the outdated references, and loosens up a bit as the movie goes on.
Until the one scene.
The part that Scott didn't even think about, more worried about the other dark tones of the movie.
Where Veronica fakes her own suicide.
Before Scott even registers that he got up, Jimmy is out of the room, in the kitchen, turning on the lights and starting the sink running.
Scott pauses the movie, something sinking in his stomach. "Jimmy?" he calls tentatively. "Are you all right?"
No response.
What was that about Jimmy being his ward?
It's getting easier and easier to forget that Jimmy isn't just his roommate, but someone he is charged by the state to take care of.
Scott uncurls his legs from the couch and gets up to head into the kitchen, letting his feet fall harder than normal to let Jimmy know that he's coming.
Jimmy's standing over the sink, scrubbing hard at a bowl, head down. After a quick, splashing rinse, he sets it in the dish drainer and reaches for a plate.
"Not that I mind that you're doing dishes," Scott says drily, "but why? What happened?"
Jimmy doesn't say anything, his scrubbing motions becoming jerkier.
"Was it the movie?" Scott tries. "I honestly didn't think—"
"Can you leave?" Jimmy asks suddenly, before cringing. "No, sorry, I didn't mean that, sorry."
The panicked apologies send Scott into caretaker mode, whether he likes it or not. "Are you having a flashback? It's okay, you're not there—"
"No, I'm—Scott, I'm fine," Jimmy insists, hunching further over the sink. "Please—please don't worry. You can—you can go finish the movie, okay? I'll just wash up here and go to bed early."
Scott almost agrees. He doesn't want to make Jimmy upset. He wants everything to be right for him.
And then he remembers that he isn't just Jimmy's friend. He's his caretaker, and he has to make sure that Jimmy is safe and mentally well.
"Okay," he says carefully. "But I'm scheduling you a therapy appointment for tomorrow."
"What? No, I'm already seeing Nora on Thursday—"
"The trigger was bad enough that you're having to clean to distract yourself," Scott points out. "I know what it looks like when you're trying to fight a flashback, Jimmy. If you really want me to leave, I will, as long as you go to therapy tomorrow. "
Jimmy doesn't answer for a long time, washing another bowl with even more aggressive scrubbing. He rinses it, sets it aside, and turns off the sink, squeezing out the dishrag.
"I tried to kill myself," he says bluntly, turning around and leaning on the counter. "While I was . . . there. I was gonna hang myself on my own leash, okay? Is that what you wanted to hear?"
"I—" Scott feels himself blanch, as hard as he tries to keep a straight face.
"And I tried to kill myself a bunch of times after you got me out, just so you know. If it wasn't for people messing around, I would've succeeded. Does that make you happy?"
"Jimmy—"
"Because it sure didn't make the crazy doctors happy!" Jimmy's crying, now, just a little bit, eyes wet and red, even as he laughs. "I have to be on drugs to be normal! Just because I was a stupid, suicidal pet!"
Jimmy isn't looking at him anymore. His eyes are fixed on a spot slightly to the left of Scott, as if looking him in the eyes will make all the precarious emotions spill over in a tidal wave.
"It was—what do you call it, premeditated?" Jimmy says. "I decided—when I woke up—I was gonna twist my leash around the doorknob of my cell and the hook, and I was gonna hang myself. But they took away the leash—and they strapped me to the hospital bed so I couldn't get any scalpels—and they drugged me up real bad—"
"Jimmy—"
"What kind of person needs drugs to not kill themself—?"
"Me," Scott says loudly, and Jimmy cuts off mid-sentence, eyes focusing on his face.
"What?"
Scott leans against the wall, crosses his arms. "Me," he says again. "I'm on antidepressants, too. When I was eighteen, I . . . made an attempt on my own life. Aeor saved me. I've been on medication and going to therapy ever since."
"I'm sorry," Jimmy mumbles after a pause, the frenetic energy seeming to drain out of him with the two words.
"It's okay," Scott says, and he feels like he's about to cry, like those few sentences have rubbed his soul raw, but he's going to stay strong for Jimmy. "It was a while ago, I don't mind talking about it. But I have depression, due to some . . . stuff, and I didn't see a future that I wanted to be a part of. So, I'm sorry that you went through that, Jimmy. But I don't want you to think that needing medication means you're somehow less of a person."
"Sorry," Jimmy says again. "I—I didn't know."
Scott shrugs. "You didn't. It's not really something that comes up naturally in conversation, you know. But medication isn't a bad thing, okay? If it helps you to survive . . . well, that's good."
Jimmy chews on his lip, turns his gaze to the tiled kitchen floor. "I'm just . . . I'm tired of being messed up in the head."
There's not really a cure for that, though.
As infuriating as it is, mental illness isn't like a cut to be stitched up and bandaged. It isn't a pulled muscle that can be healed with an ice pack and a little rest. Mental illness is a cancerous tumor writhing inside the brain, and the excising is painful and exhausting and almost certainly doesn't get all of it out.
"I know it's hard," says Scott. "I don't know how hard, but I know it is. And you've still made an incredible amount of progress."
Jimmy shrugs. "Maybe. I . . . I wish I didn't have to."
Scott doesn't know what to say.
So he just offers a sympathetic smile and waits.
It's cruel. It's cruel that Jimmy was ever pushed to such lengths, that he ever felt so hopeless.
Scott knows it's cruel.
He knows that it hurts to look back, to remember oneself in such a dark place, swallowed up in the pain.
At least he has a few years' difference. Jimmy's still at the place Scott was when he was nineteen.
What would Aeor do when nineteen-year-old Scott would lash out, angry and tired?
The answer comes quicker than Scott expects.
Aeor would send him to bed.
"Well, I'm ready to go to sleep," Scott says, not quite having to fake a yawn. “We can take care of these dishes tomorrow, yeah? Let’s take the rest of the evening off.”
“But—”
“Nah, leave ‘em.”
“The movie?”
Scott shrugs. “I’ve seen it before,” he says nonchalantly. “And we can watch something else next time. Maybe Lord of the Rings.”
Jimmy makes a face.
“Don’t tell me you don’t like them.”
“I—they’re just so long,” Jimmy protests. “I don’t have time for a three hour movie.”
“That’s not the important part, what matters is that they’re a classic.”
“They’re boring.” “Clearly, you haven’t been watching them right.”
“I’ll lock myself in my room again. Don’t think I won’t.”
“You would never.”
“I would! And I will!”

There was literally no excuse for the way Simon and Soap were the stupidest fucking people together. And only together. They are skillful soldiers, they always complete their mission. But holy fuck, take them out? Put them on a damn leash. It’s like two dogs trying to look at everything whilst on a walk.
Nothing could prepare Gaz for the way Price genuinely says shit like “whoopsies” “We’re in a bit of a jam, huh?” “Uh oh”. Kinda like if he was talking to a little kid. Gaz didn’t know why he used those kinds of words, here’s this special forces captain whom he thought was stone cold; apparently that only applies on the battlefield.
Alejandro’s mind was completely empty, watching Ghost, Soap and Gaz attempt to learn more Spanish. Soap couldn’t roll his R’s, Gaz sounded American whilst attempting to say a word that had been troubling him. It was Ferrocarril. Railroad. Ghost thought that turning Spanish subtitles on his show would help. It didn’t. “Joder, sois estúpidos de cojones..” (Holy shit, you guys are stupid as fuck..).
If Soap is mad, he won’t hesitate to scream. Yell. Only if it’s in the comfort of his home. Captain Price once came over and thought Soap was being attacked. No. He burned his breakfast. Running into the kitchen, gun in hand, he watches Soap pop more toast into the toaster. “Hope my eggs won’t get cold.” “Fuckin hell, Soap. I thought you were dying.” “No, I burned my toast.” “Fucks sake.”
Ghost genuinely cannot go a week without wreaking havoc. Scaring the shit out of people. He likes scaring the new young soldiers, ones who think they’re all that because they got into the military. That is, until Ghost comes up behind them, a heavy hand on their shoulder. “You ever been on the battlefield?” Said in a voice deeper than he’d normally go, but it was funny as shit to him, watching the soldiers jump and then looking straight into their eyes, watching as they attempt to politely disengage in the conversation.
Alejandro frequently plays video games, hard ones that he gets up on his high horse talking about “How hard can a Videojuego be?” (How hard can a video game be?” …Until he is red with rage, veins popping out of his forehead, hands shaking and squeezing the controller so tight that Rudy thought it was going to break. “No es tan grave, Alejandro ..” (It’s not that serious, Alejandro..” he says, getting more and more quiet as he spoke. Alejandro looked back at him, throwing the controller into the wall (denting it.) “You try then, Pendejo.” He says in a dark, creepy ass voice.
The teams genuine reaction when Gaz pulls out a book on the helicopter and starts reading is fucking insane. “Reading?” Ghost comments, wide eyed and sounding astonished. “I mean, the flight will be long. Might as well” He says, shrugging. “You’ve gotta be kiddin’, Gaz.” Soap scans Gaz’s eyes, looking for any humor in them. None. He was completely serious?? “Well, nothin wrong with a bit of reading, yeah boys?” Captain Price reads the room—“..You guys seriously don’t read? Ever?” “Why the fuck would we read-“ they both chirp in unison.
Captain Price is either over dressed or under dressed for the occasion. Why are you wearing a suit at Christmas dinner…And why are you wearing shorts and a Metallica shirt to church…Sometimes Gaz helps him dress so that he won’t look out of place. Has to take him out shopping since he’s rarely in normal clothes, I mean he’s got his gear and a civilian outfit (STRICTLY a civilian outfit.), maybe four shirts, a few pairs of shorts, three pairs of jeans, and a pair of sweatpants. Which wasn’t exactly bad, but for church that just will not do, Captain!!!
Soap has no social anxiety. He’s loud when he laughs, talking with random men at the bar, telling his story to some guy named Daniel who he just met 13 minutes ago. Which for the record, Daniel thinks Soap is fucking awesome. Holy shit dude, you’re a special op? Yeah that’s not something you see everyday. Him and Daniel now meet at the bar a few times per week when Soap is given the green light to do so.

First Teen Wolf Rewatch (2)
We'll start season 6 tonight (can't wait for the Thiam scenes), but first I wanted to share a few thoughts about season 5.
They're not often in the same scenes, but this one...
You have no idea how much you will actually love Liam later, Theo! ^^ (And at some point Liam will obviously have much less violent ideas of what to do to Theo.)
This is still the funniest line of the season:
And of course what Stiles says here was basically what we thought the first time (just more funnily put)...
... but now it's more like "Theo! ♡" (I wonder how we managed not to notice how pretty is eyes are until we saw pictures later. We don't have very good eyesight but we do wear glasses to read the subtitles so... Anyway, Theo's eyes are very pretty. And so are Liam's but that, we had noticed on his first episode.) It doesn't change that he was horrible to everyone in this season, but knowing what happens in the next one makes a big difference.
Something funny we had forgotten:
Love Liam and Mason's friendship, by the way. It almost makes me feel like I shouldn't headcanon Liam as bi because it ruins the "proof" that a straight guy can be best friends with a gay one and have absolutely zero problem with it. But of course I just can't resist shipping Thiam.
And bi the way, I had either forgotten this too or not even noticed who it was at all the first time we watched:
Sent to my sister the next day:
On a totally unrelated note, the way French characters speak in the Bête du Gévaudan story is, to these two native French speakers, an interesting mix of hilarious (we were literally laughing out loud at almost every line), weird (considering that it makes no sense to have them speak with an accent when they're supposed to speak French), embarrassing (because we know there are many English words we can't pronounce correctly, so we must sound terrible too when we try) and... much clearer than everything else in the show (no need to read the subtitles in those scenes - for once, we could catch every word easily).

Hudson and Rex S03E01 - Origin Story PART A
I am free! Finally, we made it out of S2. I do like S3 more as a whole.
Ugh, the subtitles are bad. And I'm afraid they'll remain like that for the rest of the season because I checked a random S3 episode and it was like that. Yep, these are the copies I found and uploaded myself. No, I don't have an alternate subtitle source sadly. HDTV rip subtitles are synced differently. Good news is that it's only S3 that seems to be the problem. Anyway, if you need a good laugh, put them on.
On to the episode.
I like the title, first of all. Definitely puts Rex on a superhero status. Every superhero has an origin story.
Did I prefer this to be the start of Hudson and Rex as a show? Yes. Does it make more of an impact when it's the story of how they met and we've watched Charlie and Rex as partners for two seasons? Also yes.
One drawback is that you can't make Diesel really look younger. I mean, theoretically they could cast another dog for this [on Kommissar Rex, there's an entire movie with how Rex started as a pup, and then an almost adult dog (teenage dog? I don't know dog ages but you could tell by his body) and that was a tv movie. I believe that dog later replaced the dog that played Rex]. But I don't know how much that would work or the training and time required.
Rex with Lindsay.
Aaaand she's dead.
No, that's so sad already.
Covid episodes. So there's plenty of outdoors scenes.
Rex picking flowers lol
It might sound ridiculous, but I feel that's a more dynamic haircut than last season's even though it's not that different. The suits have stayed. For now. The tie is trying to escape his body via Newfoundland air.
Sarah, on the other hand, has done quite the change on her hairstyle. I remember when I saw the episode the first time and I was like, wow, that really suits her, although I never really had a problem with her hairstyle before.
"Thank you for inviting me." "Well, you're a part of the team, it wouldn't feel right to not have you be a part of it." Admit it, you just wanted her there.
Dude, there's no sunshine. But you look cool, I get it. Small change of hairstyle to denote that this is a flashback lol
Joe's flashback hair are also different, without the normally visible white above the sideburns, as I remember it. My takeaway from this is that in 3 years' time, Charlie and Rex gave him quite a few grey hair.
"I'm not letting any of you bastards come close until I see someone trustworthy!"
"I've got four months left running forensics". Subtle way to show that's Sarah's predecessor.
"What's the dog's name?" "Rex." "Rex. Seriously?" Okay, what's with the name? So it means king, so what? Take one look at that dog and tell me that he's not a king. Also, I am headcanoning that Charlie knows Latin.
"New entry? Who's that? Seems trustworthy."
"Yeah, I know, we both have our issues to deal with". Yeah, you do.
There's definitely a connection but I think what's different is that Charlie tries to approach Rex as he would approach someone who's in pain, and more than that, someone who would understand what he's saying, and that's what ultimately makes a difference for Rex.
Charlie: Good boy. Rex: Knock it off, Charlie, we just met.
I don't care, this is a date.
Nice transition from the house now to the "circus" at the same house three years ago.
Jesse is geeking out about the digital board. I can't really tell if they did something with Jesse's look.
"I think it's a picture of the kidnapper". It's a literal shadow and you want Jesse to put it up? Are you going to issue an APB on shadows?
Well, that scene where Charlie and Gus are trying to talk over Rex's very loud barks must have been fun to film.
Charlie doesn't lose his temper often but he's definitely going to when it's about Rex. And we see the start of his "beef" with Renley.
"Therefore, regulation suggests that we retire Rex." "Do you mean, put him down?" Look at him, he's already too invested.
"I'll just sit here and look cute. I find that it often works in my favor."
I think the whole episode is supposed to showcase how Charlie was a bit rougher around the edges. He's easier to lose his temper, he admits to Rex that he also has issues, and it's logical because this dates closer to his divorce than any other episodes we've seen. He's also been off duty god knows for what reason because the Charlie we know is never off duty. My guess is Joe forced him to.
"I'm sorry that man made you cry. I promise, I'll make him better."
lol Rex eating the paper to show Charlie that he needs food!
I'm sorry, that was going to be your... lunch? Snack? What the hell is that?
"Oh, boy, that's high."
Admiring the view.
Charlie: "Come on, we're going around." Rex: "Oh, no, we're taking the quick way down."
"Rex, you're not seriously thinking..." Aaaand he's gone.
"Charlie, no, you can't do that!" Aaaand he's gone.
I love that Charlie doesn't even know that dogs can swim great but he's supposed to take care of a dog.
So, who saved who, guys?
Just came out of the cold river looking fiiiiine.
"You didn't tell me you could swim". This idiot, I swear. Have you not seen one cute "dog swimming video" online? How is that possible?
"You followed me to the river. You're either dumb or my best friend."
"I wish you were part of the team back then. You would have saved us from a very chilly swim". So, it's canon that Sarah is smarter than Charlie, right?
Agh. Damn them, they got me again. To be continued in Part B.

Hey, I just wanna know from where did you start learning thai? Also, what advice do you give to those who wanna start learning it
Hiya anon ✨
I'm not sure how much help I can be, considering I'm not doing a course or following an app or anything people usually do for language learning 🥴 I've been learning mostly by immersion tbh - I've been almost exclusively watching Thai series for over a year now, plus interviews, variety shows, youtube content, songs, so many songs lol, tweets, etc.
My personal learning approach is pretty loose and chaotic lmao but here goes:
1) The biggest hurdle for me was the script. Apart from already having started to notice recurring words being said in the Thai BLs I was watching at the time, I also wanted to be able to read people's tweets! In the end, it was a combination of 1) an app I happened to find (Pocket Thai Master for Android, it's free on the Play store!) and 2) the Wikipedia article on the Thai script that both helped me to understand and start reading and writing. Coming from a non-tonal mother tongue, learning the script early on really helps to understand the tones in Thai so it's something I would for sure recommend!
2) I started keeping a lil vocabulary notebook (you know those two-column ones?) shortly before my Bangkok vacation earlier this year. It not only helped with new vocabulary but also kept me practicing writing! Anytime I encounter a new word, I look it up on either or all of the following online dictionaries: thai-language.com, thai2english, Longdo Dictionary (which I literally just now realized can be set to English in the upper right corner, I've just been using it in Thai ever since I found it djsjdh), Wiktionary in Thai, or if all else fails I google it and might find an old forum entry or maybe an article if it's a slang word or idiom. I recall having dinner in a Bonchon in Bangkok and brokenly asking the waitress for chopsticks so, while waiting, I looked up and took down the word's spelling and pronunciation and when she came back and saw me copying all the info into my little notebook liKE A NERD she laughed and complimented me for the effort haha
3) If I hear a Thai word I'm unfamiliar with that I can't look up because I don't know the spelling, there's a few approaches. If I have context for its meaning, for example subtitles, then I look up the translation instead and hope I find it. If I don't, then there's the option of using thai-language.com's Reverse Phonemic Transcription function (this site in general is my holy grail tbh, it's why I mostly stick to its romanization style for any of my #local woman harps on about linguistics posts). Another option is using the papago app's speech-to-text function. Yes, you read that right. A Korean translation app, that I previously used when I was learning Korean and thus still had on my phone, proved to be useful for me to make sense of the spelling or pronunciation of Thai words. At the beginning, I only used it to read me homonyms out loud so I could parse the difference in tones lol but then I realized it wasn't half bad at rendering an accurate transcription! Sometimes I use that feature to check my own pronunciation or remind myself of the spelling of a word.
4) I always like to recommend @lurkingteapot's comprehensive Thai language learning resources post (it's far more coherent than my post here lol). And shoutout to @recentadultburnout for posting about Thai language and culture as a native speaker (both on tumblr and on ao3)! 🙏
5) This might be minor or self-evident but ya know- install the Thai keyboard for your devices! You're gonna need it sooner or later anyway if you wanna actually use the language. And if you're a keycap and keyboard nerd like me and happen to fall in love with a keyboard in a Siam Discovery store ehem then I do recommend getting a Thai layout keyboard (or keyboard stickers!) because that has proven to help me a lot in terms of ease of learning on desktop and familiarizing myself with letters I don't often encounter. Throwback to that one time I was on the train, revising consonants and their tone classes, and indignantly texted a very confused yet amused family member a photo of my hand-written copy of the Thai consonant table, asking how I'm ever supposed to differentiate between ฎ and ฏ!! Even now, I have to lean in and squint like an old lady to see the difference on desktop. 😭
I hope at least some of this proves to be helpful in your quest to learn Thai! In any case, you're not alone on tumblr or in our little BL/GL/QL fandom bubble - I know of several users who are learning Thai, like @airenyah and @philologique and the aforementioned @lurkingteapot, just to name a few I personally follow and who I'm sure all have their own advice to give if you shoot them an ask~

hi wrecker! :3 i was rewatching one of my fav youtube series and thought it was right up your alley so:
have you ever heard of Sanders Sides?
its a really cool & fun show made by this guy from Vine, Thomas Sanders. its a neat premise because he plays every character and they each represent an aspect of his personality (creativity, logic, morality, etc). through these different characters the episodes discuss all sorts of topics like (INHALE) identity, fitting in, anxiety, motivation, moving on, repression and intrusive thoughts--just to name a few
its a fun, hilarious series, but most importantly it was a very helpful way for me to learn about and better understand mental health in a way that actually clicked. SS helped me through a lot of rough patches and taught me really valuable life lessons, so i really think its something you oughta check out :)
plus its gay! Thomas is a gay man and the characters are him so all the characters are gay!! they all have really distinct personalities and they're all played so well i sometimes forget that they're all the same dude lol. the writing is top notch, every character is color-coded, there's an overarching story and original songs and ACCESSIBLE SUBTITLES AND okay i'm rambling i have to stop now sjksdhkfjfhd
so check it out if you want! he has a playlist on his youtube channel with all the episodes in order :D
...oh. my. God. I just watched a few episodes and MY GOD WHAT AN AMAZING SERIES WHATEFAAAAA---
I'm very happy that it has subtitles...I'm autistic and I LITERALLY CAN'T WATCH ANYTHING WITHOUT SUBTITLES UNLESS ITS SUUUPER LOUD AND I HATE LOUD SOUNDS LMAO--- I just can't understand anything LODHFKXKCM--- sóooooo im pretty happy :333
and really....IT'S SO FUNNYYYYEEE I'M DYING AT THAT ONE PRINCE GUY-- and it's all very random, I always talk to objects so I also laughed a lot seeing him talk to the stove lol--- :DDD OHHHHMAGOD TYSM FOR THAT, I'M LOVING THIS SERIES!!!! Seriously, I'm sure I'll like it a lot, I've been having a lot of problems with anxiety and this can distract my mind a little too ehehehehehe
This little guy here has become my favorite in just some minutes

okokokwkdkwkdnan this song is very entry 86 I think. i was actually making a jam/timlex animatic with this song but i left it cause. idek. I jsut left it.
"You can say a prayer if you need to/Or just get in line and I'll grieve you" "Another night and I'll see you/Another night and I'll be you/Some other way to continue to hide my face"
NBSJWBSNWNS this song to me is kind of what Tim was thinking as he killed Alex, since the song starts out aggressive (like Tim bc of the operator) and then towards the end becomes a bit slower (like how tim, after killing Alex, cried and apparently regretted it). To me this is like. The prayer and grieve thing is like. you can hope i don't kill you or you can become part of the people i miss. Then the I'll see you, I'll be you thing is like. i'm gonna meet you today in Benedict Hall but I'll (be)come you since I'll be the one killing someone now.
"Another knife in my hands/A stain that never comes off the sheets" "The kind of dirty where the water never cleans off the clothes"
self explanatory
"Touched by angels though, I fall out of grace/I did it all so maybe I'd live this everyday"
Touched by angels would be like. tim is a nice person, he wouldn't have killed Alex if it wasn't for the operator ("i fall out of grace"). What he'd live everyday would be a more normal(? life
"I tried/And we'll all dance along to the tune of your death/We'll love again, we'll laugh again/And it's better off this way"
Tim doesn't want to have killed Alex but in some way, him being out of the question makes everything easier, plus, alex wouldn't have to suffer with the operator anymore ("and it's better off this way")
"Well, I'm laughing out, crying out, laughing out loud"
subtitles don't specify if Tim's laughing or crying (literally says "[Tim crying/laughing]")

Thai QL Favorites Tag Game
Nobody tagged me but it sounds like fun so I'm not waiting for an invite. Created by @thatgirl4815 as Thai BL Favorites Tag Game and acknowledging @justafriend-ql whose Thai BL Favorites (JustAFriend-QL) post led me to it. If you want context for my answers, I suggest you check out my introduction post where I list what I've seen.
Favorite Thai QL: Not Me. Brilliant, well acted, asks important questions, masterful dual role. Have watched it twice and could watch it several more times and likely will if I can.
Favorite Pairing: ThunMed from He's Coming to Me. Delightful to watch its development and lots of fun. Runner-up at the moment is LimingHeart from Moonlight Chicken.
Most underrated actor: Gawin Caskey after seeing him in Dark Blue Kiss and Not Me. Pleased to see him finally getting a lead role in Be My Favorite. Runner up to Jennie Panhan in 3 Will Be Free, where she totally nailed her role (although people may dispute whether 3WBF is a QL).
Favorite Character: Thun from He's Coming to Me.
Favorite Side Character: Hin from Lovely Writer.
Favorite scene in a QL: Episode 5 rooftop scene in Bad Buddy.
Favorite line in a QL: Oh, gosh, this is so difficult. Not because there's so much to choose from (although there probably is) but because I'm basing it on the subtitles and the microscopic amount of Thai I've picked up from watching QL. Contrary to what Kawi in Be My Favorite thinks of the job, it takes real skill to be both long/brief enough to sync with the original and still be readable, as well as get across the cultural aspects. As much as I'm lukewarm on Nitiman as a series, that series subtitler was great in establishing cultural context, particularly about the insults dog and buffalo. Conversely, subtitles of Thai QL often lack nuance around address/pronouns. Also, in my current watch, Be My Favorite, as well as some other series, I'm particularly annoyed around the falling "um" sound being subtitled so literally, as "Um", where it seems to me, possibly mistakenly, as an unenthusiastic assent - maybe a better subtitle would be "Whatever" and I'm open to being educated about this word.
Given that long introduction to my choice, the thing that comes to mind is a line where I caught on second watch of Bad Buddy that the subtitles didn't match what the characters were saying, and I was feeling pleased with myself. Specifically, in episode 2, part 2, 3:54-4:02. Wai is teasing Pran. The subtitles read "Unless you're starting to fall for his sweet words" but the Thai includes the words "thong yod," the name of the sweet that Pat has anonymously gifted Pran with. The friends then chant "thong yod" multiple times as the subtitles read "sweetie". (See Telomeke-BBS post about thong yod.)
However, that isn't really about a line that's my favorite because of it being a good line (although, as @telomeke-bbs explains, it is a really good line). It's just that it's an ego-centric reason for it to be my favorite.
But the problem is, since I've never heard Thai QL lines in a language that I understand and am dependent on the subtitles, it's hard to feel invested in a particular line or even remember specific lines months or years after I've seen the series, as opposed to lines in English-language films, some of which I remember 10 or more years after having seen them.
There was a line in By My Favorite that I laughed out loud at, but that's something I watched yesterday. It's not good enough to be my all-time favorite.
But actually, now that I think about it, I love Kwan's line in episode 8 part 3/4 of He's Coming to Me. She's just so supportive of her son and his current ghost/her past live boyfriend. At 3:25-3:40, the subtitles read "It's fine, you don't need to talk about it. Feelings are hard to talk about or control. I do believe, though, that whatever happened, it's for the best." and the love really comes through in her voice. Re-watching it so I could transcribe it for this post brought me to tears. Thun's coming-out scene in episode 6 part 3/4, Kwan's monologue at 9:52-10:31 where she makes it clear she accepts her gay son unreservedly, is a close second, although a bit long to be called a favorite "line." Can I just say I love Sine's acting?
For a just-for-fun brief line it would be her line in Secret Crush on You where Sine (as Toh's mother) drops a lime while prepping dinner and reaches for it and the other characters freak out and she jokes that they watch Nang Nak too much. The joke is that Sine played the ghost in Nang Nak (a late 90's Thai horror film, which I've seen) and there's a scene where she drops some food out of her stilt house while fixing dinner for her husband, whereupon her husband, who thought she was still alive, sees her stretch her ghostly arm out through the floor to the ground below to retrieve it, thus discovering that she's actually dead.
Most Anticipated QL (& why): 23.5 (hinges on my editing BL to QL, which I would have done anyway since I prefer the term QL, but so be it) because I think InkPa made a great pair in Bad Buddy, the actors paired well in their Oiishi Zero drama-mercial, and I think they will be great to watch together as the leads for a whole series. If it has to be BL and not GL, then Triage as I'm waiting for a non-gray way to watch it so I'm supporting its production.
Healthiest relationship in a QL: See Favorite Pairing.
Most toxic relationship in a QL: The two leads in Cutie Pie, which led me to drop the series.
Guilty pleasure series: Rak Diao, the situation comedy. It's trash but way fun. Content warning for treating verbal sexual harassment as a running joke.
Most underrated series: (thank you @justafriend-ql for adding this one) 180 Degrees Longitude Passes Through Us. Way more serious and studied than the typical QL, not that there's anything wrong with typical QL, and not to everyone's taste because of the age gap, but I don't think it's gotten the attention it deserves.
Tagging the folks whose writing on QL led me to join Tumblr: @telomeke-bbs, @absolutebl, @miscellar, @waitmyturtles, and @bengiyo (sorry if you've already answered these)

Audio
When I was in high school, I had to do a group project in German class where we made a video basically about whatever we wanted as long as it involved us speaking German with subtitles.
I refused to actually be in the video, because at that time I was extremely introverted & got anxious about stuff like that super easily, so my teacher agreed I could get credit if I was the person recording/editing the video.
While I was editing the video, I added background music so it wouldn’t just be dead silent every time there was a pause in the dialogue, and I chose this song as the music.
Unfortunately I didn’t get the audio levels quite right, and the volume of the song was just loud enough that at certain points it almost drowned out the dialogue that we recorded.
And it’s not just like oh the music’s too loud, the loud parts are cheesy whistling and bossa nova “ba da ba da ba” singing. So as the video played out, more and more people in the class started laughing (including the teacher), and I literally felt like I was gonna die of embarrassment lol

[Another tweet by @/hankgreen "Hank Green" which says "Look, there have always been workers in the fossil fuel industry who are honestly trying to make the world a better place for themselves and their kids. BUT ALSO there are people who knew /exactly what they were doing/ who lied and pillaged and bribed and manipulated for DECADES."
@/Semrau Dylan "Dylan Dylan" replies "There are no villains in the destruction of Alderaan, and narratives that tell us to blame "big empire" distract from the real work ahead".

Run BTS: 041 | BTS Golden Bell part 2
Original Air Date: 20 FEB 2018 Episode Length: 33:38 Total Parts: 2 YouTube English Subtitles: Yes Title Song: Blood Sweat & Tears
Synopsis: Conclusion of the previous Golden Bell episode with more games
Production: These games were perfect for this type of show. The only criticism I have is they haven't quite figured out how best to film content like the drawing game where we need to see all of the members as well as the content being drawn. But it's such a small issue. There's a reason why this episode is iconic.
Endearment: The guys absolutely hit it out of the park with this episode. They all displayed excellent entertainer skills whilst highlighting their personalities.
Winner: RM
Loser: YG
Best Cheater: I'm giving this to Hobi for using an action during the telephone game.
Member Moments:
RM: RM absolutely owning the flag game!
JN: More for the list of Jin as a skilled entertainer. killed it with the drawing clues and absolutely astonishing with the telephone game.
YG: I love how affronted Yoongi is that everyone only praises Jin for the americano clue and not also him for getting it right.
JH: Hobi seems so personally offended that Jimin is bad at the telephone game.
JM: One of the absolute best variety show moments ever. Lah Ji Bo La La!!
V: I dont know! literally had me laughing out loud. With JKs response, what do you want me to do??
JK: JKs immediate moonwalk!
Bonus Content: Did you know V was eating onions during the other teams attempt at the telephone game??? haha, what a nut.

So… Akuma-kun 2023
I watched it, with no idea about the original series. Honestly wasn’t that bad, although the whole thing about making friends just makes me cringe. Just that “friendship is magic” stuff ig? Honestly though, love the tidbit about how people theorize that Christmas was just assimilated into Christianity: As an atheist, I love to see it.
Gonna go into spoiler territory-
So, the fact that the woman in the beginning says that “After I met Akuma-kun, I kept having nightmares” annoys me so much after the reveal. Like, you had one nightmare! Also still so weird that they go off about Akuma-kun being raised by demons when he was raised by that weird Angel guy. Like, what’s up with him? Dude just gives a kid a knife and says to let the light out or something… Also so happy to see that that guy points out that OG Akuma-kun literally just kidnaps Akuma-kun II. My family and I, when the scene came up, all just came to the realization that “he wasn’t abandoned, dude was kidnapped- wtf?!” And then Angel Man said it. Just validating…
Also so weird seeing the deal with half-demons being discriminated against. Like, in this world, I get it, but in my oc world, half-demons are actually stronger in a way. Although this comes with the fact that demons are also just normal people, but with quirks from MHA. Came up with that idea before I watched it, but best way to explain it-
Also the fact that in one episode we and hear (I watched dubbed) Akuma-kun II’s voice wavering/cracking when he tells his dad that his hotcakes are his favorite and the next dude shoots a copy of him with a gun no problem. Just, shit man. Honestly so weird.
Also crossing my fingers for a second season: I gotta know if the demon lady eating Akuma-kun’s heart had anything to do with that talk about becoming a demon. Also would be kinda funny if he did become one, cause then that little girl would be right! Dude would totally know a thing or two about becoming a demon if he became one… you get the gist.
Also so grateful that the only real pervy stuff is just the demon lady / Mummy Chick being naked and that we just move on from it, although it takes a bit to realize that her being not properly dressed is just her norm, but that’s a me thing?
Also the fact that for a good two seconds I thought Satan basically said, “Okay, this kid tried, fucked up BAD, but you know what? Fine, I’ll go possess the maid and tell him what an awful job he did.” Like, good two seconds thought it was Satan in a maid outfit and was laughing my internal head off. I only giggled out loud. Speaking of the actual demon who possessed her, the maid- is it possession if the person or whatever is dead?- did anything they say actually become plot relevant? Because nothing I can remember them saying is… yet! Again, crossing my fingers for season two.
Only after watching it all did I learn there was the first one and the 2023 one was set 30 years after the OG. So that was fun.
Also, real quick, yes, I did only watch one of the outro things all the way through. It was the one where OG Akuma-kun drops that he ages differently in the demon realms or whatever they called them. And no, I did not watch another one through all the way because A) I didn’t watch the OG show and don’t care for weird bat thing and green eyeball guy B) Their voices were so high pitched it hurt me C) Their voices were also overpowered by the music, or at the same general volume, making it a pain to listen to, and I didn’t even want to read the subtitles for them. Only good it did was save me from having to listen to any of them sing. They can sing during the show, not after.
Having fun knowing that the only things I’ve posted are flowers and now I’m just dropping this in there with it because… why not? I want to know what other people who watched it think.

♬ - a friend/best friend memory
[You click the friend folder and scan through the names. You open the “Niamh” subfolder. Overwhelmed by the number of files and confusing titles, you open one called “true use of a lighter”.]
[Reference to teenage smoking is included]
Set when No Name’s roughly sixteen. Their usual group of friends are scattered around their usual area: an abandoned farmhouse’s porch. Euca’s sat on the steps, heckling Avary and her gliscor over their contest routine while lighting himself a cigarette. Cid, Euca’s scovillain, mimics the lighter with one head as the other scolds it to watch the performance. A girl with light grey hair and gold accessories sits on the ground next to a boy with gelled-up brown hair and sunglasses, based on the small bits of frame visible. The boy takes the box of smokes back from Euca. There’s a pair of legs that swing in and out of view to the right, likely from someone sat on the balustrade. A boy with white buzz cut hair is sat in front of the left side of the porch, though you only notice this because his head entered frame when he sneezed.
The pov is stood on the porch itself, behind their peers. They cheer with the others at a display before walking to the left. They pull a lighter from their pocket and try to light it. They mumble something resembling “wrong jacket” then sigh and flick it anyway.
A loud creak sounds behind them, drawing their attention away. They keep the lighter in their hand as Niamh speaks, not flicking it. He looks from the lighter to their face.
“I leave you for two years and you join them?”
“Y say tha lie i’s a shor time,” they reply. “I dun smoke. Fun ta play wi.”
“I… Is that better?”
“Mmm, aven burnt nythin impordan ye. Prolly?”
“Probably,” he repeats. Niamh’s eye is drawn to the lighter when pov is absentmindedly twirling it between their fingers. “Is it designed?”
“Hm? Oh, yeah, I try buy cool lookin ones. Jus plain blue’s borin, y’know?”
“… uh, kind of..? What’s the design?”
They offer it to him by holding the top between their middle and ring fingers. “Duruludn.”
Niamh takes it and looks it over. “I’m guessing that is a pokémon.?” Their confusion is overcome with a small smile. Almost literally, there’s a spark in his eye. “It does look cool… Okay, first: pronounce it properly for me.”
They both laugh and perch on the wood behind them.
[The file goes on for three more minutes. It’s only when you close the file do you see a similarly named one called “true use of a lighter (sub)”. Looking further, each file has a subtitles alternate version. You note to pick those ones going forward.]
