Favorite Things: Business Proposal

We had so much fun watching this cute and lighthearted romcom that we've watched it twice. The characters were fun and the actors were great in their rolls. They often had us laughing. This show was far from serious, but still delivered lots of sweet and even some spicy moments.

One of our favorite things about this series is that it's available to a wide audience on Netflix WITH an option for an English dub! Do we personally love dubs? No, not really. And we rarely watch them. However, when we wanted to introduce a grandma to kdrama, a dub was the solution to overcome the barrier of poor eyesight that made subtitles difficult to follow. For this reason, I am really happy to see this have an English dub available to increase accessibility and wish there were more dramas with dubs. The dub itself was far from terrible once we got used to it, but Ahn Hyo Seop and Kim Se Jeong are so great that we missed their delivery when watching the dub. However, not having to read along allowed us to fully enjoy all the comedic expressions! So pros and cons.

We agree with @savethelastdan, we love when guys, or more accurately any human, step up to help another human cover up an embarrassing moment. It's cute and sweet and we fall for it every time.

Staring: Ahn Hyo Seop & Kim Se Jeong

Pretending to be her friend, Shin Ha Ri attends a blind date in order to scare off the would be suitor. But things quickly get complicated when the suitor is turns out to be Kang Tae Moo, the CEO of her company. When she reluctantly accepts his unusual business proposal, she has to keep him from figuring out that she is actually his employee.

This show is cute, light hearted, and often over the top silly. We loved both the leads and their chemistry was great. We recommend this series if your looking for something fun and romantic that doesn't require any heavy lifting.

Bonus: There is an English dub available for this title through Netflix. The dub was pretty decent once you get used to it, neither amazing or terrible. It's a great option for people that are not able to read subtitles.

Ending: 🥰

Tears: sprinkles of sad, but never for long

Can not stop thinking about this.

Style thinks there is a 50/50 chance Fadel will kill him. That means two things:

1) Snark and confidence are Style's sword and shield

2) Style is willing to die for a chance at forgiveness

Style knows he messed up. He knows he hurt Fadel. He knows Fadel is capable of killing him and has reason to. Still, he doesn't resist and goes willingly, even if he's scared, because he loves Fadel and he wants a chance to fix this. So he literally gives Fadel his life and hopes it is enough.

Even when Style is being confident and cocky to Fadel's face, deep down he fears love might not be enough. Even if he believes Fadel loves him, he knows love is not a guarantee that he will be forgiven. And in moments when he is sincere, and tired, and still, and has nothing to distract from the weight of his situation, his brave mask slips, and we can see the doubt and sadness Style works hard to ignore. Style doesn't want to die, but he will if that's where their love story ends because he refuses not to try.

Still, Style is going to Style. He's going to be over confident, flirty and snarky as hell because that's who he is. And if he's annoyed, you're going to know it. Style has already made the decision to see this through and he told Fadel he wont run. Style doesn't need a gun in his face to understand the situation he is in and he's probably pissed to be reminded.

Personally, we think Fadel wanted to believe he was 50/50 as well, but he was just lying to himself. In the end, Style got what he wanted and Fadel got what he needed. And now they get to love each other completely open and honest.

But when she crosses paths with Kwon Ryok, a member of an ultra famous K-pop group, things get complicated. Being an idol isn't easy and Lee Ma Ha and her friends struggle to navigate the spot light while juggling work, friends, romance, fans and fame.

Honestly, we came for Ateez and did not regret the choice. As K-pop fans, this was a fun, 100% junk food watch and we enjoyed it. It did raise some uncomfortable feelings hinting at the darker side of idol culture, but they mostly kept it focused on the romance. Check this series out if you are in the mood for a mostly cute romance that also has some fun music and dancing!

Ending: happy and hopeful

Tears: there were lots of sprinkles of sadness, but we felt mostly immune to it with little time needed for recovery

Main Couple: Straight

Side Couples: Straight... but they definitely fed the shippers with some bromance pairs 😆

🐈 Kat had to do some serious mental gymnastics to enjoy the bitter sweetness of this scene. Walking into someone's room without them knowing, while they sleep, and crawling in to bed to hold them without consent triggered lots of NOPE for Kat.

Us watching that entire scene

Perth killed it!

I like AouBoom. I was actually looking forward to their pairing (which I expected to be similar to PondSand). But Wa and Klao?

Gods damn, they should have broken up and stay broken up a long time ago 😓 They are freaking exhausting to watch. Healthy couples improve each other but KlaoWa just seems to drain the other's energy off. It's just too toxic 🤮🤮🤮

I know the story will be hard to pull off without this, but I really hope this doesn't come. With the amount that scene hurt, we will not survive!

THE FANTASTIC SOUND DESIGN IN THAT ONE SCENE FROM EPISODE 6 OF THAMEPO

One of my favorite parts of ThamePo's narrative/editing structure is when we see part of a scene or, indeed, the whole scene, and then the show doubles back later in the episode to present a different perspective or additional information that changes the audience's perception of what we saw earlier.

For example!

In episode 6, Thame goes to Po's uncle's suit shop to end things before they get too serious. We see the scene twice from Po's perspective and later from Thame's, and the sound choices in both parts are so good!!!

Po's POV is dotted with silence and sad instrumentals, and it's clear from the tears on his face that he (correctly!) assumed Thame was there to end things. What he didn't understand is that Thame changed his mind in the moment and his "take care of yourself" was meant as encouragement, not a gentle let-down.

That high-pitched frequency as Thame speaks was so stupidly smart it upsets me. Like, you can see Po thinking, Not again. Not so soon. He was just starting to feel something real, and the thought of having Thame walk away from him is already that raw and painful.

(I'm gonna cry so much when they have their inevitable We Cannot Be Together moment.)

BUT when we get Thame's POV later in the episode, the music is more upbeat and lilting, likely representing Thame's optimism for their future. Thame has already changed from the character we were introduced to because Po's inspired him to believe and hope again, so his music cue reflects that.

I love when sound design gets real attention and consideration in these series. It's one of those signs that the show isn't just one of a thousand cash grabs inside the BL tidal wave we've seen throughout the past few years, but instead a genuine production that matters to the people who worked on it.
