They find each other, not immediately but with urgency, outside of the garages, somewhat shielded by the push and shove of the crowd.

They’re both smiling wide, ecstatic in their own rights, and Christian grabs for his face and kisses him on the mouth, knowing, smiling when Toto folds into him, into his arms, and Christian cradles him close, one hand in his neck. There’s murmurs of soft affirmations, breathed through tingly, breathless, giddy joy, and Toto pulls away and kisses him again, once, twice, three times. Christian smiles, wide, with small eyes, warmed by the layers of clothing he’s wearing, the M4X shirt he’s pulled on over his jacket, and Toto’s hands on his hips, toying with the hem, snaking their way underneath.

“I’ll find you later, okay?” Christian asks. Meets his fingers, left and right, in a brief touch. “We’re celebrating.”

“Where?”

Christian shrugs. “We’ll do one and then the other. You’re coming for drinks with me first. Your guys can deal.”

“I’ll have a drink with my guys first, you look like this is going to take some time.” He nods to where the champagne and the Red Bull cans are being set up, the photographers getting their cameras ready, the team bunching, elated. “I will join after you are done here.”

“Fine,” Christian concedes. “We’re staying tonight.”

Toto huffs his amusement. “Alright. I’ll have our flight cancelled.” His eyes are small, too. “But you argue with George about the party I will miss.”

“You can bring him. Lewis too. I’ll allow it. Bring your guys.”

Toto laughs, boyish, and presses closer in that awkward way of his, too tall for his long limbs, too excited, too happy for his body to know what to do with it. “Oh, they are going to like that.”

Christian grins. He doesn’t care. He’s happy. He’s allowed to be happy. And he wants to share all of this with his husband. They deserve it.

I think you should go to a Healer, Sirius. 

Why, he’d asked, flippant. What was there to do with a Healer when you were a convict on the run? Besides, Sirius was wrong in a way that couldn’t be made right. He was past the point of return. Healers would’ve barely known what to do with him before Azkaban, let alone in the condition he was in now. 

Because you look like a stiff wind will blow you over, Harry’d answered, though the answering flippancy didn’t quite land the way he intended because what Sirius heard was ‘Because I don't want to lose anyone else.’ 

What Harry didn't say, and Sirius didn’t want to hear, was ‘Because I can’t lose another parent.’

He quietly acquiesced after that. The trembling, hopeful smile growing on his godson’s face was enough to wipe away all apprehensions after that. 

Until now, when Harry was at Hogwarts, and he was second guessing this whole business. 

Did he really need a Healer, like, really?

One look at the mirror in front of him gave him a solid, sturdy answer. 

He was dressed in his old rags and it was a testament to the conditions of Azkaban that clothes from when he was younger, before hitting his final growth spurts, were barely just fitting him now. Sirius’ back was almost constantly bent these days--all days spent curled up in a ball seemed to have reshaped his skeletal structure, who knew--each vertebrae gaining a distinct notch in the column of his skin. His stomach was a fascinating blend of too small and too bloated. He couldn’t keep anything down, but he wasn’t able to eat much either. A mystery for the ages. 

Less said about his face, the better. Sirius wasn’t vain, never had any reason to be, but there was a certain…pride he’d maintained, a level of outward appearance that was considered bare minimum for a Black, a conditioning he’d never managed to shake off. 

It was that conditioning itching at him now, turning him away from any reflective surface before he could see his distorted features, grotesque and inhuman, staring back at him. 

And ultimately, it was that, he realised with a shameful sort of guilt, that pushed him to see a Healer. Not his godson’s pleading look, not concern for his wellbeing--but leftovers from an upbringing that he hated, his mother’s words he couldn’t stop hearing, his father’s sharp commands. 

Ultimately, it was his blood that made him give in, as it always did.

She doesn’t remember the impact, the car hitting her – all she remembers is how much pain she was in after that, laying there in the street, unable to move. It was so scary, too. Shannon didn’t want to die. She was just getting her second chance at being a mom, at redeeming herself, trying to make up for it all, and suddenly she was faced with the prospect of being stripped away of it – what’s even worse, she could imagine how confusing and painful this would be for Christopher, getting his mom back just to lose her again. Honestly, that part, the thought of her kid hurting because of her, hurt much more than the fear of dying.

Fortunately, she’s still here, and she has no idea what crazy miracle happened, but she’s so grateful. Now she needs- she needs to see Christopher, promise him she’ll never ever leave him again, she never wants to be away from him again. She hopes Eddie will let her, despite the divorce bomb she dropped on him. It’s not even surprising to her how much of a mess they always end up in when they try to be together – which is why she sees divorce as the only option right now, it’ll be better for everyone.

She fixed her hair while he worked, a feeble excuse not to look at him, though she also wouldn’t want him seeing her like this regardless. Sweat stuck wisps of hair to her forehead. She should’ve long since caught her breath, and her heart had calmed, but not entirely—a state that should be reserved for the company of aching thighs and pillow talk, not a poor stage performance. He placed her shoes neatly beneath her vanity, where she always kept them. Christian wrapped a loose hand around her ankle, his thumb slipping beneath the crosses of her fishnets to rub small circles over the bone. She looked down at him, still knelt before her. Her eyes fell to his hand [before he could/before he had the chance to meet her gaze]. “What is it?” she asked. She knew the answer. For all the ways he’d changed, Christian still hadn’t lost his boyish avoidance of directness. She considered some kind of physical comfort, perhaps a hand on his shoulder or cupping his cheek, but didn’t move.

Because of the way I've decided to structure my space pirates story, I have about 15-20k more words to write of like....snippets of Sirena and Tobias (and their crew) doing pirate shit in space. Problem is, my brain is completely blank trying to come up with more shenanigans for them to get into. I know there's the whole classic treasure map X marks the spot thing, but that feels closer to what the main plot is so I don't want to do that in the snippets. So if anyone has some idea spaghetti please throw it at my walls and maybe something will spark something in my brain

this IS a semi-au fic about the detroit red wings, set vaguely in the 2018-19 season, because the wings sucked that year (but not as bad as 2019-20)

this is ALSO a fic that is mainly about tyler bertuzzi and dylan larkin, with some other wings thrown in because i've never met an ensemble i couldn't shove into a love story
