So far this is the dynamic @simply-jason

Gary and Alu have the longest relationship. They've been besties with benefits forever now my dude. There's no real feelings involved. (He's neutral with Lisa. There's no attraction between them, but they're cordial for John's sake bc they both love him but clash too much in personalities and belies otherwise. He's attracted to Alastor and they're on good terms.)

Alastor initially hooked up with Alu and they became partners after he first moved into the apartment complex. They were both curious about the fact there was another demon around (Alu bc he'd never met Al, Al bc he'd never met another demon period) and Alu basically got Al warmed up to being worshipped by the cult. Very much a friends-to-lovers dynamic. (He's friendly with John and overly respectful of Gary, and he does feel some level of attraction to both.)

Lisa's absolutely enamored with John! She's been head over heels for him since they were kids! She meets Al when he first movs in and she's pretty shy at first, but he's friendly and sweet so they warm up to each other pretty quickly. They start as friends, then develop into friends-with-benefits, before they end up becoming partners. (She's not into Gary at all and is mostly civil with him for John's sake. They chat politely and will sometimes work together to make John happy, but there's no mutual attraction between them. She's also nonreciprocating towards Alu, though she does warm up to him a bit over time.)

John adores both Lisa and Gary! Those are his two partners right there! Lisa because he's known her forever and Gary bc he awakened him to who he was and finally made him feel secure in his identity and perceptions. (He's intimidated but attracted to Al too. As for Alu, he's a lot more way and avoidant, and it takes him a long time to warm up to him.)

Alu and Gary have had the oldest relationship. There's no romantic attraction. But they've been friends forever so it's just friends with benefits between them. Alastor is his actual romantic partner and he utterly adores him, even if he doesn't show it that well. Al gets the message. Alu shows his love in his own little ways. (He's also attracted to John and Lisa and makes advances toward them. They warm up to him over time, but it's purely physical attraction really.)

We are so obsessed with this polycule dynamic, it's so great ❤️

Also in this little AU we've cooked up, Garcia and Miriam ended up as a ship! Long story short, Garcia went in to save John and ended up getting captured by Miriam and forced to witness John breaking and being corrupted under Gary's influence. It convinced Garcia that there really was no hope in fighting the cult so, much like John, he gave in and was indoctrinated by her. Except OOPS - shotgun priest accidentally fell in love with the demon nun while she corrupting him so-

3. Do you anticipate writing for a new fandom this year? Which one?

A: I think I mentioned in another ask that I’m currently circling the Blorbo Pit for Star Trek: TOS, but I also just watched the new Doctor Who Specials last night and can see myself sliding into that, too.

6. Which yet-to-be-started fic is first on your list?

A: I have a sci-fi/time travel fic idea that has been brewing in the back of my brain for awhile now, but that one’s still a ways off, so I also have a slightly cracky STAR Labs Extended Polycule fic idea that is extremely dumb but entertains me.

11. Would you like to try any new fanfic genres or tropes this year?

A: I’m not sure if it quite counts, but I’d like to try my hand at writing some more Polycule Shenanigans and QPR type stuff alongside my usual. I have 30% of an idea for a silly little Iris/Barry/Eddie side story in What The Cat Dragged In and I’m currently working on a Cisco/Hartley fic with Lisa Snart as their queerplatonic partner, both of which I’m hoping to finish this year.

Writing Advice

When I read fanfiction with a polyamorous relationship in it it's always the same kind of relationship, 3 people all dating each other which is perfectly fine but there are other types of polyamorous relationships out there, so if you're a writer and you want to write a poly couple or even couples this is for you!

And to demonstrate I'll be using Bravo Team and company.

1.

'V'

This is a relationship where 1 person is dating 2 people who are not sexually or romantically involved with each other, so for example

Sonny could be dating Lisa and Clay but Lisa and Clay are not dating each other, so if you were to draw a line it would make a V.

2.

Triad

This is a relationship between 3 people who are all romantically or sexually involved with each other.

So for example Trent, Brock, and Full Metal would all be dating each other, so if you drew a line it would make a triangle.

3.

Quad

This is a relationship where 4 people are all romantically or sexually connected with each other.

This could be 2 primary couple connecting or adding another partner to a triad.

For anyone who's confused at what I mean at 'Primary couple', what I mean is two existing relationships before the quad was formed, like if Jason and Alana met Ray and Naima and they started a quad Jason and Alana and Ray and Naima would be primary couples because those are the pairs who were dating or in this case married before the relationship was formed.

A common example of a quad is two poly couple meet and each person begins dating someone from the other couple.

Ex.

Jason, Ray and Naima start dating and Alana starts to also date Ray but Naima is only into guys so she doesn't want to date Alana and considers her a metamor.

Remember not all Quads look like this, this is just an example!

Full Quad

A full quad is just like a triad but with 4 people, this means all four people are romantically or sexually involved with each other.

So for example Sonny, Brock, Trent, and Clay could all be dating each other so if you drew lines it would make a box with an X through it.

Polycule

A polycule is a whole network of relationships of people who are romantically connected with each other.

It's hard to draw something like this so you'll have to bear with me here.

An example of a polycule could be Ray and Naima are married but Naima has a boyfriend but this boyfriend has a husband and the husband has a boyfriend also and then on Ray's side he's got a girlfriend and a boyfriend who are not dating each other but that girlfriend she has a wife and another boyfriend and so on.

As you can see in the paragraph above a lot of people are connected romantically, so when you think of a polycule think of a drawing that shows all the links.

Remember that not all polycule's look like this! This is just an example!

Hierarchical Polyamory

Hierarchical polyamory places more importance on one relationship over the other relationships in the polycule.

The primary partner is often the partner they are married to, share finances with, lives with or has kids with.

Primary partners will prioritize each other when making decisions and commitments.

An example of this would be if Jason and Alana were in a polycule they would prioritize each other in decisions and commitments because they're each others primary partner.

Non-hierarchical Polyamory

This is the opposite of a Hierarchical Polyamory.

This kind of polyamory means no one is prioritized over anyone else no matter who is living with who or who has been together longest.

Solo Polyamory

Solo Polyamory is where someone has multiple intimate relationships but they live a independent or single lifestyle, they may not share finances, live with partners or have a desire to reach traditional relationship milestone where their life would become more intertwined with their partners.

Someone could have also just come out of a serious relationship and practices solo polyamory for a while, this mean they do not have a partner but still identify as polyamorous.

Sometime people practice Solo Polyamory due to circumstances.

Kitchen Table Polyamory

Kitchen table polyamory focus on the family vibes of a polycule, all member gather for family events and provide communal support.

Not everyone may be sexually or romantically involved with each other but they all feel comfortable to hang out with each other.

If your confused when I say 'family gatherings' think of it like Bravo Team's family barbecue's.

Parallel Polyamory

Parallel Polyamory is where members aren't interested in being emotionally involved with other polycule member besides their own partner(s).

Mono-Poly Relationships

The title is pretty much tells it's self but I'll tell you any way.

Mono-Poly relationships are where one person is monogamous (They are only interested in being involved with one person at a time) and the other is Polyamorous.

Here are some terms you could use when writing polyamorous characters and relationships!

Metamour

A metamour is your partner's partner, for example your girlfriend's girlfriend or your partner's boyfriends.

Paramour

A paramour is an outside member of a marriage, for example your husband's boyfriend or your wife's boyfriend.

Compersion

It's sometime called the 'Opposite of jealousy' it's a feeling of joy someone gets from seeing their partner happy with another person.

So ive been keeping my eye on the manga seibetsu mona lisa no kimi he for a while

And i had some doubts about it originally, seeing as how they treat relationships in a world where you could choose your own damn gender anyway

But im also VERY invested: im hoping for a polycule between hinase, ritsu and...shiori, i think his name was? yeah. Theyre challenging a lot of regular cishet tropes right now and the traditional men and women roles, which i like, but the heteronormativity is killing me

Like jeez do you know how much i wanted to strangle one of them when they said "turn into the opposite gender so i can love u!!" like the fuck. But the aftermath of that was handled so well i think the author wanted to highlight how fucked up it is to be confessed to like that, yanno? which is cool :D

impressions for the final episodes (8 to 10) under the cut (it got really long)

- the main trio reunion was soooo Good and I'm glad they made the wait worth it. the animation was top-notch and watching their teamwork made me really giddy, I wish we could have gotten more teamwork but i'll take what i can get :P

- i was Not expecting the twist reveal with Death (or whatever the fuck it is). I knew something was up with the Alchemist that St Germain met, but I really didn't expect the London Vampire (sorry forget his name) to be the big baddie. Hearing the cockney accent on Death felt really off at first but I got used to it after a while.

- The final fight between Trevor and Death was cool af but I do wish there was a bit more buildup abt the significance of the knife. It was pretty obvious that the knife was gonna be important but I do wish its significance (its power and the pact with God) was made a bit clearer before the big reveal. But tbh I realize that's a bit of a nitpick

- The final scene with Lenor and Hector was really good. I never got really attached to either character before but they really shined in this scene. Lenor's death scene was great what can I say im a sucker for death scenes where characters look at the sun as they die

- I really wish we'd gotten a scene with Isaac but I understand why we didn't. I already had a feeling in episode 6 that we wouldn't see him again and ep 6 did such a great job of wrapping up his character arc that I can't say I'm too disappointed.

- On the subject of absent characters I'm surprised we didn't get anything abt Striga and Morana. Lenor barely mentioned them and we really have no idea what they're up to. Tho tbf their little subplot was wrapped up nicely in ep 6 so I understand why the writers chose not to include them, but still I would have liked a little mention or update on their status.

- I was sure that Trevor was alive but I will admit I had a moment of doubt during Alucard and Sypha's conversation lol. I'm just glad that they finished the series together ;w; And I choose to believe that they're all living together as a polycule (Greta included)

- Speaking of Greta! I fucking love her! I wish we'd gotten more but honestly the show did a great job establishing her character and giving her good chemistry with Alucard (which can be rare with m/f ships).

- The final big twist really caught me by surprise! I really did not expect Vlad and Lisa to be resurrected but honestly I'm happy for them and I hope one day they can reunite with Alucard ;w;

- Overall this season was wild and I loved it! My one criticism(?) is that I feel that Saint Germain's character was kinda wasted. His flashback sequence was ill timed imo, it felt really janky to go from Alucard meeting Saint Germain directly into SG's flashback. I'm guessing they wanted to give viewers context for his actions asap but personally I would have preferred a bit of suspense. I think it would have been cool to see SG plotting with the vampires and slowly piecing together his end goal. However, given how fast-paced Castlevania is and how little time they have I understand why they didn't do it. But overall SG didn't feel really compelling this season. Last season he had the allure of mystery but this season he really just came across as a dick (which i guess you could argue was the point).
