3.5h hours of studying math
Spent 2.5 hours finishing my notes on storastic theory - managed to not only understand three topics we haven’t covered yet but also come up with a question for my teacher! I’ll ask her about it on Monday (if I don’t forget…). For hour 3 I had to decide between linear algebra and calculus. I chose the latter and regret it because I understand *nothing*. To be fair, it’s been 1.5 years since my last calculus class…

sir????? Wdym me aren't even at the climax of Kid Leo yet???? How far ahead did you plan???? Hats off to you man, I could not.
Oh I've planned it to the end, plus a bit more, and then I ended up rewriting the ending just recently :D
I don't like fully committing to an au or a fic or anything without a full plot/idea cause then I won't finish it :3 I actually did go into Kid Leo without that originally but then it got big enough I wanted to be able to finish it one day! So an actual plot happened!
Also yeah we're still about halfway through, even with all the cuts I've made, but not quite to the climax yet!
#asks#kid leo asks#this is why its taking me a bit longer to work on L330-N or Lil Hater or the Rural ay#they do techncally have complete plits#but im having trouble with some of the endings and middle bits#esp with L330-N#i have two endings i really like :/#as for Kid Leo i recently rewrote a big big chunk of it which filled in some plot holes#i was kinda worried the next couple arcs were too boring and realized that i actually dont have to do those arcs anymore?#if that makes sense#im still working on it!#mostly just typing it up from my notes :3#also the reason tmnt:hme hasnt really happened is cause it has no linear plot#it was just a mishmash of ideas from my childhood :D#sooooo yeah

The Fate of the Dead
(Go to the end for prompt source and ao3 link) Chapter 1:
Sam was able to see the future.
“A gift” her grandfather whispered on his deathbed.
“A curse,” her mother sneered.
“Hope,” her grandmother said.
“Witch” her playmates said.
One move to a rinky dink town later and even though her parents didn’t say anything, Sam understood – keep quiet, say nothing, and everything would be fine.
-
While the first few years of Sam’s life were a whirlwind of activities, fancy parties, and frilly, fashionable dresses, the next few years were quiet. Living in a small town where no one knew who the Mansons were, was an adjustment. Sam, even at her young age, could pick up on the quiet resentment from her parents. The sidelong looks at the TV over news of celebrity parties, the glance over at Sam when reading the Socialites section of the newspaper, and the way that they frowned when Sam started talking about her visions. By the time Sam entered 1st grade, she stopped mentioning them to anyone, family or otherwise. Why would her parents care about the sight of blood on the playground, or the car crash on the interstate? They couldn’t stop it, and Sam couldn’t either – not without knowing information like “where” or “why” or the most important of all – “when”.
-
Walking into the 2nd grade hallway, she found her teacher waving students in that they recognized from open night into the classroom. As Sam approached, the teacher brightened, “Hello Samantha! Walk right in, there’s a seating chart at the front of the classroom. Please find your seat and sit down. Class will start soon.” Nodding, Sam walked into the classroom and saw a large easel with sticky notes plastered to it. Each one was arranged into groups like the desks behind her. She located her seat, turned around, and almost ran into a boy with black hair.
“DANNY!” A woman slid to a halt, bumping the classroom teacher a little as she caught herself on the door post. A backpack held up in one hand and breathing hard, like she’d ran to the school. After a moment, she looked up, “Danny, you forgot your backpack.”
The black haired boy turned around, “Oh! Thanks Mommy!” he grinned as he ran back to her.
Sam stopped, shocked – not because of the almost run in, but because that boy looked like a younger version of the one she saw in one of her oldest visions. The only recurring one she’d ever had. As the boy shooed his mother off and turned around to head back to the easel, Sam woodenly headed to her seat, refusing to look up from the floor. Swinging the straps of her bag over the back of her seat, she smoothed her skirt, and sat down. She blinked a few times, fighting back tears. Not all of Sam’s visions were unpleasant, but the ones that were, tended to be rather extreme – this particular one included. She had almost convinced herself it was a recurring nightmare rather than a true vision, but there was no way she could have imagined those screams. She breathed in and out to calm herself like her mother showed her, fists clenched under her desk, hidden, like her father. As the thunk of a backpack landed on the desk next to her, she shook her head a little and looked up. “I’m Sam,” she introduced herself to the boy next to her. A hand stuck out in his direction.
“Tucker,” the boy grinned, as he shook her hand.
By the end of recess later that day, Danny was sporting a bloody nose, Tucker was on the ground, and Sam stood in front of them, glaring at the blonde kid who started it all.
“Step aside, if you know what’s good for you!” the kid said, trying to stand up tall, chest puffed out.
“You can’t hit a girl!” Danny yelled around the hand clutching his nose.
“Yeah! That’s, like, super mean!” Tucker said as he started to stand.
“I might!” was the response.
Sam glared harder, “You can try.”
“Move!” Dash screamed.
“No!” Sam screamed back.
“Over here! There’s some little kids fighting!” An older student was yelling across the playground, motioning for a teacher’s assistant on recess duty to come over.
By the end of the day, Dash was suspended and Sam had made two lifelong friends.
-
“But Saaaaaam,” Danny whined, “why do we have to go the long way to the park?”
“Yea, Saaaam whyyy, my feet already hurt from PE today,” Tucker said, a few steps behind the other two.
“Because I said so,” Sam rolled her eyes. “It’s nice out today - why wouldn’t we take advantage of it?”
Danny slowed down to settle beside Tucker and stage whispered, “I think this is payback for painting the inside of her locker pink.”
“No.” Tucker solemnly said. “She’s just trying to kill us.”
Danny nodded, “Aaah, that makes sense. Do you think she’ll at least pay our funeral expenses?”
Tucker snorted, “She should at least pay for our coffin lining. I’m thinking light blue. Sam, what do you think? Light blue? Or should you do green for me?”
Sam rolled her eyes and turned around to walk backwards to talk to them, “I think you two are melodramatic and insufferable.”
The boys laughed at her, seeing the uptick of her mouth. They walked a little faster. Sam turned back around right before Tucker slung an arm around her shoulders as they fell in step with her. “So, a bottom of the line white?” Tucker asked.
Danny gasped, “And here I thought Sam wasn’t like those, quote, ‘basic bitches’.” The boys cackled as Sam shrugged Tucker’s arm off with a huff.
“First – I called them shallow. Second, I would at least spring for a black lining. If I can’t convince you two to go goth in life, I’ll have to make it happen in death.” Sam held her head up in mock snootiness before side eyeing Danny and laughing at his grimace. They made it to the park walking past the people walking dogs and others playing with young kids to the far end. The trees started to get dense and the park area slowly transitioned into proper woods. They could hear birds quieting down as they pushed aside branches and went through some bushes. A slight breeze pushed through their group as they came upon the dry creek. Stepping on the large stones in the creek bed, they made their way across to a fallen tree on the other side. Tucker and Danny let out twin groans of relief at being able to plop down. Sam made a face at their antics and took the seat in between them.
“So,” Sam started. She refused to look at either one.
The chirping of the birds started up again. Danny shifted his foot around at the dirt under his shoe, looking up at the sky. Tucker took off his glasses to clean them off on his shirt. After putting them back on, Tucker raised an eyebrow, “So?”
Sam laughed sheepishly, “I forgot.”
“What?!” Danny blurted out, taking his eyes off the clouds to look at her.
“Yea! What?! You’re the one who wanted to take us out here today!” Tucker added on.
“We could be at home playing DOOMED, ignoring our homework, instead of out here, tired, overheated, and ignoring our homework,” Danny said.
“That’s it then, I guess I’ll have to take out my homework and have you help me.” Tucker paused hopefully. “Unless you suddenly remember?”
Sam furrowed her eyebrows, looking down, “No. Let’s do our homework.” She unzipped her spider backpack to pull out her binder.
Danny looked behind Sam’s back at Tucker mouthing, “Are you serious?!?”
Tucker widened his eyes, shrugging and shaking his head towards Sam, “Sorry?!?!”.
Sam sat up with her binder and pencil, cutting their silent back and forth short. “Alright. Is it going to be English or History?" She looked at Tucker, down at his untouched backpack, and then back up. “Seriously?” A signature Sam frown was gifted upon him. “You were the one to suggest this. Hurry up. As soon as I’m done, I’m leaving you two behind in the woods.” At the thought of having to walk back by themselves, Danny and Tucker scrambled to get their backpacks open and homework out. Sam smiled a little. As much as she loved these moments, she was already mourning their end.

I love your art style, especially how energetic it is! How did your art style get such dynamic lines? Do you have any tips/advice/ideas on how to do that?
Thank you! Um... I'm not sure how to go about it, but I’ll try and give some tips on line confidence. I think my main advice would be to not let your sketch box you in- keeping it at a really low opacity so that your eyes don’t get used to seeing it with your line art when you draw over it (having your sketch opacity too high can give a different impression of your line work), leaving room to exaggerate or play around with fresh lines in the next phase.. It’s easier to do when you’re confident in your subject, so the sketch should be stable enough to convey that, but have fun with the process otherwise! For me, good line art comes out when I’m actively finding ways to build off the sketch’s energy while lining it, not when I’m trying to limit myself to it/already 100% happy with what it provides.
Here's a bit of a visualization! When going from the sketch to the line art, I was thinking that I could improve the flow of the cape, so I made the upper part less flat and balanced its curve with the bottom to keep the energy flowing. The slope of Kalim's pose could balance the curve of Jamil's sarouel, so I leaned into that when putting down the lines for Kalim's. Meanwhile having some areas be more linear helps give contrast. Line of action, straights against curves, etc. (I think this is delving more into gestural talk now) I'd recommend studying artists whose linework you enjoy too! Kaisen_Tobiuo was-and still is- a big inspiration of mine growing up for how expressive their works and line art felt. Also study naruto fanartists they're cracked It ended up being a bit of a ramble, but I hope this could help op!
#ask#will say i was already feeling good that day when doing the line art for the sketch; some days require more information#arts not a linear process so take note of how youre feeling that day and adjust your method accordingly#and looking at the sketch again theres different ways i could have gone about it! dont be afraid to experiment#most of all though have fun! the process is a lot smoother if you enjoy it#and if you dont enjoy it find blorbos that will make it enjoyable for you#sorry for the late response btw!! really wanted to think this one thru; i have a lot of love for this subject but talking is not my forte

Jacobson's Basic algebra 1 gives such a nice argument for why algebraic numbers have minimum polymials, making it a corollary of the fact that polynomial rings over fields are principal ideal domains. Consider a field extension E/F (i.e. a field E that contains a field F). For any u ∈ E we have in E the subring F[u] and the subfield F(u). These are defined as the smallest subring and subfield of E respectively that contain both F and u. If E = F(u) for some u ∈ E, then E/F is called a simple field extension.
Let F(u)/F be an arbitrary simple field extension. Consider the polynomial ring F[X]. By the universal property of polynomial rings (which is essentially what one means when they say that X is an indeterminate), there is a unique ring homomorphism F[X] -> F(u) that sends any a ∈ F to itself and that sends X to u (you can think of this homomorphism as evaluation of a polynomial at u). If the kernel of this homomorphism is the zero ideal, then F[u] is isomorphic to F[X], so u is transcendental over F. If the kernel is non-zero, then by definition there are non-zero polynomials p ∈ F[X] such that p(u) = 0 in F(u), so u is algebraic over F. Because F[X] is a principal ideal domain, there is a polynomial p that generates the kernel. In other words, p divides all polynomials q such that q(u) = 0 in F(u). Two polynomials (over a field) generate the same ideal if and only if they differ by a constant factor, so there is a unique monic minimum polynomial in F[X] for u.
#math#it also follows immediately that if u is algebraic then F(u) = F[u]#because the image of F[X] under the homomorphism is an integral domain it must be that the kernel is a prime ideal#so bc F[X] is a principal ideal domain it follows that it is a maximal ideal#hence its image F[u] is a field#another note: this works even if u is an element of F#that is exactly the case that the minimum polynomial is linear

also. continuing this thinking an hour later. i find it even more baffling because danger days is the period of time where they had arguably the most incisive and leveled questions about the process of making the record, like the nme article was awful but there were much greater opportunities by and large to actually talk about the record as a whole compared to the really paltry parade or revenge era interviews which were only ever insightful despite themselves.
#talking mostly about recorded interviews like for radio and such. just greater long-form dialogue compared to slim airing-on-tv style press#but even in print i feel like they were taken more seriously. on the whole. nme notwithstanding. (and even that interview#is more deeply unprofessional and gross than unreadable. it has some great quotes elsewhere imo)#actually this might be onto something because dd is comparatively less controlled by the band. there's not an accepted official#conceptualization on the level of the parade linear notes or life on the murder scene.#idk fully thinking out loud here#my posts

people love to use ffxiii’s messy development as a reason to completely shit on the game but honestly the fact they managed to sneak in so many little details in the gameplay in a way that reflects the characters and story despite all the miscommunication between the dev sections is just impressive to me
#was xiii horribly planned out and missed out on a lot of important feedback because of the poor time management? absolutely#does that mean you cant be impressed with what the game achieved regardless of whether you liked it or not? fuck no#also the fact theres next to no bugs (not counting the pc port because... yeah) is amazing all things considered#and the graphics still hold up to this day#the linearity is everyones main issue with the game but look at x dude#x was linear as hell too but it makes sense bc yuna had a pilgrimage to follow#just as how it makes sense for the xiii cast to not have time to stop and explore cocoon while they were being hunted by the government#thats why you have so much more freedom to explore when youre on pulse#theres not even anything objectively wrong with having a game be linear in the first place#and the people complaining about the story being ''incoherent'' are just... wrong?#they give you enough hints within the dialogue to piece the story together yourself while also not leaning on exposition dumps to tell it#and if you cant do that then the datalogs are right THERE#games have relied on ''notes'' to tell parts of their story for ages now and i dont understand why its suddenly bad when xiii does it#i dont like sitting through exposition dumps and i like being able to analyse and theorize about a plot WHILE im experiencing it#and a lot of other people feel the same way so its not an objectively bad aspect of the game's storytelling#you just need to pay attention and be patient and wait for the story to unfold#i went off the rails but ANYWAY#aki stfu#final fantasy xiii

12.21.23~ Finished topic 1.2 for linear algebra, and have about 3 more problems to do for the practice section. Some of what I learned today: 1. A coefficient matrix includes only variables and their coefficients, but an augmented matrix includes the values to the system as well + 2. A basic variable is associate with a pivot, all other variables are free + 3. In a system where variables are free, there are infinite solutions + 4. Row reduce from left to right and find pivots in REF (row echelon form) + 5. RREF (row reduced echelon form) is used to solve a linear system in its entirety, especially if free variables are a concern + 6. Inconsistent: 0 solutions / Consistent: at least 1 solution / Consistent and unique: 1 solution
I also made chai with milk for the first time (my mom usually uses water) and it was nice; next time I'll ratio it to 2/3 water 1/3 milk instead of the opposite

this is another thing that probably doesnt matter at all but as someone who's interest in vocal synthesis is in large part because of the software and technological aspects, every time i see someone trying to explain the use of deep learning/neural/AI/etc in vocal synthesizers and they say that "the only thing the AI does is help make the pitch transitions smoother" im like white knuckle gripping the table muttering under my breath like no....that is. incorrect.
#there is a big misconception that deep learning synths technologically are the same as concatenative like a series of samples#stretched and stitched and resynthesized together with the 'AI' only referring to an automatic pitch system#and i understand where the misconception comes from. its probably a combination of early marketing of deep learning synths#(am i insane or did ahsoft use to market AI rikka etc as standing for 'automatic intonation'.... did i make that up)#plus trying to separate ai vocal synths from like chatgpt and whatever#BUT. that is not how it works. i think the only synth ive seen that does have that functionality is the very recently released miku nt2?#which i think is still in beta anyway LOL#i thought there was maybe some early synthv banks like the plus banks that did that too initially#but the plus banks are actually AI models trained off of their concatenative samples iirc#but yeah.......... ai voicebanks are just straight up deep learning models of voices with a lot of built in control tools in software#(what notes to sing what parameters to change tone etc)#the vocal provider sings a whole lot. the programmers go in and carefully label all the data. etc etc#they are more ethical than like some of those sketchy song generators in that the data used to train these models is obtained via#licensing and direct input by vocal providers who are getting paid and giving consent etc. but the technology is the same type of thing#i dont even like or care for randomly generated gpt whatever the fuck i find it super uninteresting 99% of the time#but i do love a good ethically made deep learning based vocal synthesizer voicebank and i really dislike technological misinformation#dont stand to close to me or i will start explaining to you about linear predictive coding speech analysis. I brush my teeth hard
i shower everyday
sometimes twice
i try to keep my space clean
I'm definitely not the best
i'm not the worst either
But my teeth never feel clean.
how hard i scrub at them,
spending what feels like hours
getting all the corners
constantly cleaning it all out.
If i stop again
I'll never start again
but sometimes i think
what's the point of the work
my teeth will never feel clean

i finished a draft for a novella today (and sent it to Fate as i always do, so i will await their comments before any decisions are made) but this is a very odd sort of ‘finishing a draft’ experience because i don’t really have plans for it yet. my last several writing endeavours were like…to prepare a manuscript for publication. but with this one it’s different. it’s faerie stuff but it’s not the next faerie stuff, you know? there is still a lot of story between where i last left our heroes and this novella
#ljs life#(it is not about the same heroes to be clear. but there is still something of a linear timeline to work with)#and by g-d do i need to create a cohesive timeline. where are my sticky notes
