~ Lilo's 2024 Star Wars recs ~ (another Ao3 year in review)
This is specifically the star wars edition of my reader year in review, the rest & more info can be found here!
Descriptions/summaries by me, click the links for the ones from the authors.
The Good Sith by sonnyrain - Obi-Wan Kenobi and all of the Vod'e time travel and end up on a Sith planet. Obi-Wan, now 'Aranar', turns to the dark side, swearing to protect his men no matter the cost. Over a million words, lots of plot and character developments, fix-everything, still ongoing as of mid last year but you can read the first part(s) on their own.
I love this fic a ridiculous amount, I read several parts at least twice, and I'm thinking about it constantly. Like, when I think up my plotless little fluff piece fix everything bedtime stories I think up to fall asleep (and sometimes when something's good have to forego sleep to write down immediately because I know I won't remember fuckall come morning), I think of the versions of the characters from that 'verse just as often as I think of canon star wars characters or ones from any other fics. It fits into my headcanon 'verse really well because I always work with multiverse settings, and I love the kid characters especially little Sithling Aurek and his twin Soul.
Knives and Spices by argentee, mikaiyawa and others: A whole group of humans from earth is kidnapped into the Star Wars world, and separate fics follow separate characters. One becomes Mandalorian, one a pop star, yet another befriends some pirates and travels to lands we've never seen in canon. 280k, ratings and warnings vary, series still ongoing, parts can be read separately
I love and adore all kinds of self insert stories but this one is just extra levels of amazing - it's basically humans are space orcs meets Star Wars, and humans are all a bit force sensitive - the ending of the series summary describes it perfectly: "how much trouble can a few humans cause? All of it. All the trouble." and I love it all to bits!
Like a Tree by the River by @bairnsidhe - at Galidraan, Komari has a vision of the canon future and decides that she'd rather leave the Jedi behind than be a part of that massacre. Somehow, this ends with her and Dooku being adopted by mandalorians, and her in turn kind of adopting teenaged Obi-Wan at Melida/Daan? 20k T
Idk, this isn't even such a long one and I mean all of BairnSidhe's works I've read are great but somehow specifically this one with Dooku being the 'a bit old' ad and Komari therefore the bu'ad of a random coruscanti Mandalorian just stuck with me and I sometimes randomly think of Dooku being all confused and have to smile xD the plot&writing is also really good!
How a Romance Novel Saved the Galaxy by @arianaderalte: The mandos get their hands on a novel that describes a romance between mandalorians and jedi, and just how perfect jedi really are as partners for mandalorians... This changes things when both groups interact irl. 200k, rated T, Violence
This series has Everything. Jedi, Mandalorians, action, relationships, all kinds of queerness, and excerpts from a romance novel about the ancient Sith wars. Honestly, this fic just couldn't be better! I binge-read through it in one go even though I should have done a million other things at the time and I didn't regret it one bit xD
All the Amavikka stories: the slaves on Tatooine have a separate secret culture with language, myths and names, and Anakin, coming from this culture, reacts to Palpatine being his newest slave master
I think this idea of Tatooine slave culture and of Anakin's characterization is so interesting and I love reading it, from long Double Agent Vader by @fialleril, which I think is the original fic creating the Ekkreth lore, over the ongoing series Biting His Own Tale by @adragonsfriend, to the short story I can't find anymore about depur erecting a tower, a song-fic to Babylon by Dirt Poor Robin and the reason for my obsession with that band - please, if anyone has a link, send it my way! - and all other fics, I love this trope so much!
I think Ekkreth Skywalker was one of the first trope rabbit holes I stumbled into when I got really into Star Wars longfics in the middle of 2024, and I'm always excited to see references to it in fics mainly about other characters as well, like Breaking Chains by @jehanneargentee, and I went back to (re)reading fics about the trope on purpose several times as well :)
The last fic leads neatly into the next trope I really loved this year, Time Travel stories, more specifically Obi-Wan Kenobi time travelling and meeting mandalorians :D
I don't really have more specific stories for this one, I read so so so many of them that they just blur together in my mind. I marked a couple with the Ao3 rec function so I assume I liked those especially much, but going through them now I still don't really remember much, but I do recognize a couple fic author names as authors I read many good fics from, Ariel_Sojourner AppoApples @batshieroglyphics @roosjem LeeTheHobbit @triscribe cjwritesfanficnow @laurabwrites y'all's are awesome! Everyone, go check out all their fics!
I do also read and enjoy stories where people other than Obi-Wan travel through time, one that really stuck with me is In Good Time by morwen_of_gondor, about the Mandalorian trainers Kal Skirata and Walon Vau time travelling back to their time on Kamino.
All the fluffy h/c, fix-it, everyone lives, no order 66 Clone Wars fics! Pro-jedi, pro-clones, anti-sith (which sometimes includes Anakin, sometimes not), usually focusing on the 212th.
I never watched the series and it's been ages since I watched Attack of the Clones, but somehow, probably on the time travel -> Obi-Wan fics -> General Kenobi pipeline, I ended up reading a loooot of clone wars (fix it) fic, specifically lots and lots of Codywan!
You know that lovely feeling of getting into a new fandom without having any preconceived notions or otps or anything, so you can read All The Fic without any ships or bashing squicking you out? Yeah, that was me in Star Wars several months ago, cursed be the Codywan that got to me xD I can barely read time travel fics anymore without mourning the existence of the Vod'e because changing the past usually means they won't be created (unless they're the ones time travelling of course. Love those fics) and where I used to read just about anyone x Obi-Wan (and also anyone x anybody else lmao), I'm not pretty exclusively into Codywan... That being said, there's a reason for that, and that's the amount of amazing fics for that ship that I came across!
Again, I don't have specific fics that I remember because I just read so many one after the other... I guess I'll have to re-read them all. Which is great actually because me not remembering them much means I can reread them basically for the first time! I did mark some as rec but looking through them now I think they're not mainly recced for the codywan... My shippy bookmark tag might give a better overview.
Another ship I got into was clone troopers Waxer x Boil, I like the thought of the Vod'e being a society of to outsiders identical looking but to each other separate people who only see their immediate batchmates as siblings (which would also psychologically make a lot more sense), and these two are just super cute.
One of the first Waxer/Boil fics I read is also Codywan and it's one of these clones&Obi-Wan time travel fics I like so much :D The 212th Attack Battalion's Guide to Saving the Galaxy by Accident by @antigrav-vector and @quarra, it also has some Dooku/Sifo-Dyas which is another ship I really like.
Another one I still want to continue reading is RCAU: Open Skies mainly by @cacodaemonia, what I've seen of it so far is great and the story is So Long (almost 900k, a honestly daunting wordcount and probably what made me procrastinate continuing it, but also Awesome because So Much Fic), it's cute and shippy and no order 66 but also has plot and interesting characters and ocs and I just love it <3
Also similar but less ship centric, I absolutely love all the fics where Fox gets to kill Palpatine. Just, best trope ever. The Corrie Guard deserves a little Sith Murder. As a treat.
Jaster Mereel and his haat'ade (True Mandalorians), there are a bunch of really good ones where they rescue Obi-Wan and the Young from Melidaan, but also in general all the Jaster fics are great!
While I'm very anti guns irl I just love the fictional Mandalorian culture xD with their cool armor and their codex and the language (per my last count I know 90 words of Mando'a just from fic reading osmosis, send me an ask if you want a list lmao), the vibrant culture created by it being a creed, not one species... and Jaster is just my favorite Mando'ad ever, maybe because he doesn't have much canon attached so fanon just went wild? xD there are also a bunch of jedi shippy fics with him and Dooku sometimes in ot3 with Sifo-Dyas, or him and Jon Antilles like the wonderful 100k wip trade your heart for bones to know by @blackkatmagic, and I think there was one with time travelling adult Obi-Wan as well - edit: yes several, by @roosjem @cjwritesfanficnow @batshieroglyphics <3
Skywalker Family Values by Ariel_Sojourner: Sith-son Luke and senator daughter Leia end up in the same summer camp, it ends in a destruction of the speciist camp, a rebellious theatre performance and the reintroduction of their parents... Aka the parent trap/ Doppelte Lottchen AU that is still somehow perfectly in tune with the Star Wars world! 55k, T for violence.
Can't forget the fic that actually got me into Star Wars! At least I'm pretty sure this is the one? I think there was a tumblr post talking about crackfic ideas for a parent trap AU, and I went looking and found this one, which is actually 100% serious and such a good read. I actually made my mom read it as well xD Das Doppelte Lottchen (German original parent trap book from 1949) was one of our favs for her to read to me when I was a kid, and my mom is always looking for new reading material and as I'm mainly reading fanfic, I'm always happy to find fic she'll also like.
And, because I turn everything into a tag meme, maybe some of you also want to show your appreciation for the writers who got us through the last year - everyone who sees this, feel free to make your own post (if it's just Star wars fic I guess you can reblog-add to this one, but otherwise seriously make your own post)! and remember to leave your authors some comments especially if they can't be @-ed on tumblr :) tagging all the authors already tagged above and everyone else who sees this!
here's my 2024 rec list for other fandoms

Funniest responses* to the "What does "Blorbo" mean?" question
(In reference to my silmarillion fandom linguistics project, the results of which you can find in my "survey says" tag)
*not necessarily the full response, some are just fragments from longer responses. Also, I'm not filtering by "correct" or "incorrect" responses
Special Little Guy (gender neutral)
Lmao. That's like, my special little guy. He takes up my brain space. I'm rotating him.
you know how lilo from lilo and stitch has that doll she made, complete with backstory? basically like that
one's blorbo is a character one cares a lot about. it kind of has like... condescending or woobifying connotations? like expressing that Maedhros is your blorbo is sort of uh... one imagines like, a chibi Maedhros. cute, not scary. but it doesn't necessarily imply the speaker has distorted perception of the character in general, just a sort of fondness
The character a person wants to use as a doll/stuffed animal
A character who the author loves too much (and knows it)
"OMG Blorbo was in the new trailer for 5 seconds!" is a common statement
which often provokes... strange thoughts at 11pm.
Beloved character who you think about entirely too much and also enjoy putting in Situations
It implies some degress of being pathetic as well.
No relation to Blorbo Baggins.
The character you put under a microscope, put through the cheese grater, put into the salad spinner, and squeeze like a plushie.
A beloved character whom you want to both stick in a microwave and protect with all you have
character one fangirls* over (*gender neutral)
Just a little guy, whom I am deeply enamored of and just want to squish on the head and see what happens.
Favourive character, often pathetic, someone to pity as much as love
obsessed. baby. Will run my mouth off about them
the word "favorite" wasn't enough to encapsulate "the exact kind of character made specifically for me in the lab" either. my friendgroup started calling those types of characters "callouts" because they were calling you out by existing Exactly To Your Tastes
(not necessarily in a way that condones their actions, but deeply beloved nonetheless)
The "cinnamon roll" kind. Idk I love Namo but I'd never call him a blorbo, it just wouldn't feel right.
??
dear?
My personal favourite character, whom I want to adopt even if he's a dark lord
A particularly beloved (or beloathed-in-a-positive-way) character.
Generally seem to be problematic favs.
I think it was originally meant to be somewhat mocking, but it was wholeheartedly adopted and is now used unironically.
A favored character that usually is subjected to great amounts of trauma and or fluff.
A favourite character, usually male
The obsession character
Feanor/character you are unreasonably attached to esp. if they are a Bad Person TM
The character who is most special and beloved to you (and often that means you're gonna put them through The Horrors)
a character that makes you chew on the bars of your enclosure
Special little character from my shows(tm)
usually having an aura of kicked wet puppy (brimby)
You'd build a shrine to them
Idk, ask the children 😹. Er. Hot character you like? I'm sure people have very complex definitions explaining why they like the hot character but I don't take fandom that seriously.
Your guy (gender neutral), not a comfort character, but perhaps a character you would like to see experience the worst situations possible (affectionate)
occasionally blorbo from my floor (my cat)
Just a widdle pathetic guy 🥺😈
A favourite character, thuogh usually one you squash like a stress ball or squeaky toy rather than put gently on a shelf
Ungoliant
Guy (gender neutral) who I hold in my hand like a neat rock and look at
character whom i will put in a glass and shake
character you are putting in the metaphorical salad spinner
A favourite character, often a war criminal treated like they did nothing wrong, they are a little kitty
(character you're particularly attached to and usually put in physically and/or mentally torturous situations for fun)
A character you’ve imprinted on and like seeing in misery. They’re your wet cat you enjoy pouring water on but also toweling off
Your favorite character, to whom no harm may come (except in the service of angst)
my guy. my friend my buddy. the person
Literally your favourite ever character, but not like you want to f*ck them, more like "how much can i let them suffer?"
Your favouritest character from media that you like to put in all kinds of situations, but is not morally problematic.
favourite character you want to bully
a fictional character that you like to an obsessive amount, typically more than other favourite characters; your specialist little guy; someone you are unwell about; you don’t always have to like your blorbo per day but they must take up constant thought space

Regarding the Lilo and Stitch live action trailer.
I have only watched it once so far, and read your analysis, so I cannot say I have too much to say in depth, but I have noticed this, if nothing else: it does not feel like a self-contained unity.
It was Richard Wagner who coined one of my ever-favourite words, Gesamtkunstwerk. Roughly explained, it means "a work of art which is greater than the sum of its parts". As Christians, we both know the Eucharistic Service as our closest example of the kind (where the beauty of the spoken word of Scripture, the music and words of the hymns and anthems, and the architecture of the sacred space combine together, if done well, in a blessedly seamless manner), but there are countless other examples familiar to many. And I think it can be argued that every good film is, in essence, a Gesamtkunstwerk by definition.
I posit that Old Disney (requiescat in pace) really knew how to make all elements of a film, or even of a trailer, work together in the same direction; because there was direction, and purpose, from the heart. New Disney, on the other hand, which is probably mainly interested in deconstructing our past whilst dangling before us the bait of a shallow nostalgia in hopes of sucking in our hard-earned money, has lost any sense of a meaningful direction, and everything in its opus becomes a hodgepodge of heterogeneous elements which do not blend together.
Even though I cannot describe in detail the reason right now, this is how I feel about the new L&S film, judging from the trailer. The original film's trailer was made of disparate elements which nevertheless harmonised in the same direction -- you can tell before even watching the film that, much like the (old) Lion King, it will be an artful combination of comedy, drama, and life lessons, with well-written individual characters. The new one...it feels like a very strange mix between Star Wars, SNL, and a David Attenborough documentary.
It's like a fiddle, a sitar, a crumhorn, a marimba, and a double bass trying to play Mozart's "Great C Major" Symphony, and each has its part written in a different key.
(Also...just sayin', mah boi Cobra B was seriously miscast. The new actor does not look half as threatening as the OG Bubbles.)
Very pretty.
A couple points of clarification:
I’m not a Catholic, I’m a Christian, a Biblical Christian. I don’t believe in the authority of the church or tradition as any comparison at all to the authority of Scripture. And I certainly don’t believe that the Eucharist is the way God commanded us to worship Him, because Christ does not need to be re-sacrificed. Christ’s sacrifice does not need to be re-offered or re-presented. Hebrews 7:27: "Unlike the other high priests, He (Jesus) does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when He offered Himself.”
Scripture is our ultimate authority because it is the Word of God. It’s the blueprint to return to, it’s the standard of truth. Traditions and churches fall in under that authority—they don’t have any authority in and of themselves to decide what Scripture says.
All of which I say to transition into talking about your take on why the movie will be bad:
You have to have a “blueprint” or a “standard,” in order to have unity. The “blueprint” for the original Lilo & Stitch was unlike any other Disney movie. It was not about Princesses, it was about modern people. It was not designed with Glen-Keane appeal, it was designed with Chris-Sanders-style. It wasn’t an epic, it was a local story in a Hawaiian village. It wasn’t based on any ancient folk tale or fairy story or classic literature—it was original. It deviated from all of Disney’s previous standards.
But it was a unified whole when it was finished, I agree with you on that. So what was its standard? What was it’s blueprint?
It’s blueprint was it’s Main Point: “Family loves you when you’re broken.”
Deconstruct that sentence.
Family - the people who have chosen you, regardless of what you can do for them or be for them. (Exemplified first in Nani, who is struggling in every area of life and Lilo is only making it harder, and she could choose to give up on Lilo, but she chooses Lilo instead of an easier life. Then exemplified in Jumba, who chooses to help Stitch even though it inconveniences him. Then exemplified in Lilo, who hangs on to the idealization of “family” and subconsciously learns from her sister’s example by loving Stitch despite him ruining everything and being completely unappealing.)
Loves You - love is a passion for someone combined with action. It is not selfish, it is selfless. And it is never ever separate from truth. It also “believes all things, bears all things.” (Exemplified in Nani never giving up on Lilo in addition to choosing to be with her, exemplified in Lilo & Nani giving Stitch a place to belong, exemplified in Stitch risking life and limb and capture to save Lilo from abduction. But ALSO exemplified in Lilo trying to teach Stitch to be good, Nani trying to teach Lilo not to hit people and promising not to yell at her anymore—it is important to note that love does not look like ignoring or celebrating “naughtiness” or “flaws.”)
When You’re Broken - you’re not the way you’re supposed to be—bad, evil—flawed, imperfect—messing everything up for everybody including yourself. Something is flawed and you can’t fix it or do better. (Exemplified in Stitch who is more than just “naughty,” he is literally a Frankenstein’s monster of sewn-together alien parts who belongs nowhere and is built to cause destruction and likes doing it. So he has no family and no proper place in existence. Mirrored by Lilo who is a flawed little girl who willfully makes things harder for her older sister when a social worker is coming to town and beats up other kids. And exemplified by Nani who loses her temper, neglects David, and can’t get a job.)
See? He’s an alien because an alien is totally foreign to the Family That Loves Him’s experience, so that makes their love that much more powerful. Because it’s so undeserved. He has nothing in common with them, world-based-wise.
He’s a Frankenstein’s monster because he doesn’t belong anywhere, even in a galaxy of variety. He’s built to destroy because that’s as flawed and hard-to-love as you get.
Jumba’s a four-eyed alien who builds monsters and Pleakley’s a noodle alien with one eye who misunderstands everything about the things he claims to be an expert on—they’re both losers—so that when they’re loved-into-the-family, again, it’s not because of anything they have to offer. It’s because family loves you when you’re broken.
Lilo is a little girl because that allows her to be powerfully gullible and innocent—in the sense that she’ll just keep loving and trying this beast that not even a mother could love.
See?
See how everything ties back to the blueprint?
But if you have people who say “nahh we can change the message, it’s ultimately whatever we say it is, the message has to go hand-in-hand with the direction of our studio, we’re in charge,” then none of the elements support their new message. Because they were made to support a different message.
Do you see?
So no. Respectfully, I don’t think it’s like the Eucharist, because the Eucharist is built on a flawed foundation.
It’s more like the best and greatest story of all time: The Bible. And when you move or lessen the authority of what the Bible has to say, everything that used to be set up according-to-the Bible also falls down, because you removed it’s support. I sort of already spoke to the point you’re describing in my pinned post and in the last four or so posts I’ve made on Lilo & Stitch, but thank you for coming to my inbox anyway.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers! Spread the self-love 💞
AWW WAIT THIS IS SO CUTE !! nonnie show urself rn so I can give u a smooch and a hug
these will be in no particular order as I truly don't think I could ever actually pick a favorite. this will basically be word vomit about the things I'm proud of and the fics I find myself revisiting a lot ....
my immediate first thought is my LiLo fic A little too much, just a little too soon as it was my first fic over 10k and also just agh. holds a very special place in my heart. LiLo have such a cute dynamic that I feel doesn't get explored enough just bcuz of how little actual content there is of them (despite the fact that they've been racing each other since they were like. 14?? wtf is up with that) it's also one of my few beta read fics so huge shoutout to my bff Michelle for proofreading all 34 pages of it<3
What's mine is yours is definitely up there for sure. I feel like I really nailed the dynamics and the characters, and also just... galogan are soooo. much to think about with those 3. I remember reading a fic ages ago with the same premise and it just really stuck with me, and I vividly remember the idea resurfacing in my head one night and I kinda went a little crazy thinking about it in the context of these 3, and so this fic was actually written in the span of literally 24 hours lolll but I think it really holds up!
My name on your skin is I think some of my best work somehow even tho it was my 4th ever fic? I think the writing itself really holds up and it's truly some of my best freak expression... it's also my first work to ever really pop off, so it's extra special to me because of that! I still get comments on it every now and again and it really warms my heart bcuz I am really proud of it
it's kinda crazy cuz it's so recent but I am soooo proud of Oil spill. the dynamics are delicious and I feel like I really nailed the flow and prose as well. I've never written Max before so that was also really new and fun, especially bcuz Max is a person that I feel like I can grasp the voice of very easily? his dialogue is probably my favorite part of the fic tbh I love it a lot definitely very proud of this one
and then finally I'd have to say Please turn those headlights around is probably one of my top 3 favorite fics I've written, which makes me so sad bcuz it's one of my least popular!! maybe it's just emotional bias but eh. I feel like my own grief about Logan's departure from Williams really drove this fic to be great, like, Logan's internal dialogue and how he expresses his feelings all feels very tangible to me and I think I did a very good job on it! and just agh. goopy, hard to grasp feelings.. gotta love em
honorable mention to Take a photo, will you? even tho I really hate it now (just the way it's written feels very clunky and obviously ameteur) I really do like the vision and I honestly think it's one of my best executed ideas? I would honestly really love to go back and rewrite it bcuz I am seriously proud of it, I just think my skill level at the time was really obvious (also! its my first lialex fic so it also holds a special place in my heart cuz of that) AND it was the first fic I ever used the Alex albon freak agenda tag on... a historical fic truly
#this list would be completely different if i also included fics ive posted on anon but thats neither here nor there#this trend is so cute!! thank you for tagging me <3#asks#sargebon#lialex#galogan#sarson#hate that name but unfortunately LiLo doesn't tag properly#sargestappen

I want former foster kids to know how easy it is to publish a book.
I was following a podcast about side hustles and one of their episodes focused on a children's book author. He wrote the story and he paid someone to illustrate it. He allowed the book to be available for amazon kindle subscribers for free for a limited time which gained him some 5 star reviews which bumped him in the algorithm and resulted in sales. Now he makes passive income from it.
So many former foster kids have stories and perspectives that they want to share and I think books are a great way to do it plus it's a passive income stream and that's pretty fabulous.
I know society has normalized sharing our deepest traumas and vulnerablities online but honestly it is not a safe thing to do. People will target you for harassment and use your traumas against you. I'm not saying that publishing a book will eliminate nasty comments, but at least when you put out a book it is a paywall so only invested readers are going to read it not some random anon troll with no stakes in the situation. Books also allow you to get your message out without being interpreted. Being a former foster kid (especially those who age out of care) means you are a really tiny minority. People don't understand your perspective and voicing your opinions online is so unproductive because you just get dog piled by people. Completely outnumbered by people who refuse to see your perspective because they haven't walked in your shoes. Being able to actually write what you need to say uninterrupted is so important.
And despite what some people say, people DO care about former foster youth voices. I'm a former foster kid and I read FFY memoirs. I find it relatable. It's nice to know I'm not alone. It's refreshing to have someone put words to feelings I couldn't articulate before.
Then there's that whole problem with the orphan horror trope. It would be really nice if there were more depictions of foster kids like Lilo from Lilo & Stitch. A quirky little girl that audiences adore. Not a psychopath villain that is revealed to have a tragic history in foster care which explains his murderous rampage. Sometimes people will completely ghost you after knowing you are from foster care so it would be nice if there were some narratives that didn't add to the stigma of foster kids.

⭐️ TOP 10 READS ⭐️
I wasn't really dabbling with the book community when I picked up reading again in September 2023 but now in January 2024, I've read 32 books (not a lot but I'm picking up speed finally!) and here are my TOP 10 reads so far on my reading journey 💘📚
Starting at #10...
#10: ICEBREAKER | Hannah Grace

This was one of the first books I read. It was also my first sports romance. I didn't think hockey would be it for me but WOWZA did Nate Hawkins change me. His and Stassie's relationship was a quick one that took my breath away. The spice? You wouldn't have convinced me of the fllth in this book when I picked it up. Honestly, the pages moaned when I opened them. Such a good read! Highly recommend. I'm currently reading WILDFIRE (Russ and Aurora's story) and cannot WAIT for Henry's book! He was my favorite side character 💘
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
#9: SECRETLY YOURS | Tessa Bailey

Secretly Yours was my introduction to Tessa Bailey who has honestly become one of my top 5 authors. I love her writing style. A third person typically isn't my cup of tea, but Tessa can change you. This was a great take on a little grumpy x mega sunshine action. Julian Vos is a sucker for his girl and secretly a little freak too. Absolutely loved this! Also, I loved the secret admirer letters back and forth. So good.
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️🌶️
#8: Unfortunately Yours | Tessa Bailey

This is the second book after Secretly Yours. This follows Julian's sister, Natalie, and August Cates. We meet both of these people in Secretly Yours. There's nothing I love more than a marriage of convenience trope with a little splash of enemies to lovers, but knowing that the MMC has fallen in love first. August Cates? He is a WHOLE MAN. An ex-Marine who is set to keep his late best friend's vineyard dreams alive, his and Natalie's explosive relationship is a succulent read... And in the bedroom? Well, let's just say. He makes it fit. 🔥
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
#7: ADDICTED TO YOU | Krista & Becca Ritchie

The first book in the Calloway Sisters series follows two very complicated people, Loren Hale and Lily Calloway. Best friends since childhood who both face terrible addictions (Loren is an alcoholic and Lily is a sex addict), they've been playing their families for years that they've been together. They do this so they can help others hide their addictions. But when everything blows up and each realizes the other does have a problem, everything goes south. This book had me in tears. It is emotionally tragic and I adore LiLo SO much. I've read Ricochet and am going to start the 3rd book either this month or in February... Also, you may just fall in love with Connor Cobalt. I said what I said 💗
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
#6: FLAWLESS | Elsie Silver

When in doubt, remember what Big & Rich said. Save a horse, ride a cowboy. If you wear the hat, you ride the cowboy. My first cowboy romance ever and I was hooked from the very first page. We meet Rhett Eaton, a playboy bull rider with a hatred for milk unlike no other. He needs his reputation fixed and handled. Enter Summer. The most sunshiney person you'd ever meet gives this bull rider a run for his money. And the sex? Oh wowza. It's so good.
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
#5: A COURT OF THORNS & ROSES | SJM

My introduction to ACOTAR started off strong. I adored Tamlin (if you know, you know) we follow Feyre Archeron and her journey. I can't say much except you need to read this. It is one of the best series I've ever read, which is why my next 4 are ACOTAR too.
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️
#4: A COURT OF MIST & FURY | SJM

ahhhhhhHHHHHH. I CRIED LIKE A BABY. RHYS?? Rhys is my husband. I can't help it.
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
#3: A COURT OF WINGS & RUIN | SJM

I cried even harder reading this one. Again, I can't spoil it.
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
#2: A COURT OF SILVER FLAMES | SJM

This is by far my FAVORITE. I am a Nesta girly. Deep down, out of all the Archeron sisters, I relate to Nesta the most. And Cassian is my favorite bat boy... Gah lay. I cannot wait for Azriel's book.
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
#1: HAUNTING ADELINE | H.D. CARLTON

My number one book... Is Haunting Adeline. I don't want to hear any negativity. This book changed me. I've got so many book boyfriends, but Zade Meadows beats them all. He is unstoppable. This book had me screaming at the top of my lungs and had me fighting for air. Zade had me questioning everything about myself. He is the dark boyfriend for me. I have Hunting Adeline and desperately want to read, but was trying to get through some of my TBR. I started it and cried by the third chapter so I had to put it down because I just KNOW Hunting will wreck me.
RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Aladdin is set in a mishmash of Middle Eastern countries. It was supposed to be in Iraq, but because of the Persian Gulf War, Disney said no, so it takes place in the fictional country of Agrabah, which is inspired by Baghdad in Iraq.
Raya and the Last Dragon is set in a mishmash of Southeast Asian countries, but takes the most inspiration from Vietnam
China: Mulan
India: The Jungle Book
Europe
England: The Wind in the Willows (The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad), Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, Winnie the Pooh, The Great Mouse Detective

Wales: The Black Cauldron
North America
Mexico:
Las Posadas

You Belong to My Heart/Donald's Surreal Reverie (all from The Three Caballeros)
United States:
Different towns in Massachusetts and California have claimed to be the Mudville that Casey at the Bat (Make Mine Music) takes place in, but the author of the original poem said it has no basis in fact.
The Legend of Johnny Appleseed (Melody Time) - the real Johnny Appleseed (real name John Chapman) planted apple trees in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Ontario, and West Virginia
Lady and the Tramp could take place somewhere in New England
The Fox and the Hound looks like it takes place in Appalachia, so maybe Pennsylvania or Virginia
Home on the Range is somewhere in the Old West
Bolt takes place across America: starts out in California, the title character ends up in New York, visits Ohio, and is back to California by the end
Alaska: Brother Bear
California: Wreck it Ralph (Ralph Breaks the Internet reveals that Litwak's Arcade is in California), Big Hero 6

Chile: Pedro (Saludos Amigos) (The title character delivers the mail in the Andes, between Santiago, Chile, and Mendoza, Argentina), Pablo the Cold-Blooded Penguin (The Three Caballeros)
Colombia: Encanto
Ecuador: Pablo the Cold-Blooded Penguin (The Three Caballeros) (Pablo goes to the Galapagos Islands, which is an archipelago in Ecuador)
Peru: Lake Titicaca (Saludos Amigos) (the lake is at the border between Peru and Bolivia), Pablo the Cold-Blooded Penguin (The Three Caballeros), The Emperor's New Groove
Uruguay: The Flying Gauchito (The Three Caballeros)
Unknown/does not take place in our world
Any of the package film segments not mentioned here
The Little Mermaid seems like it takes place in the Mediterranean Sea, but it could also take place in the Caribbean, which would explain Sebastian's accent
Fantasia 2000: "Pines of Rome" is set in the Arctic, so it could be anywhere from Canada to Alaska to Finland to Russia
Most of Atlantis: the Lost Empire, since the city of Atlantis is completely made up

how did disney do treasure planet dirty?
Thank you so much for asking
Story time!
Treasure Planet (2002) is Treasure Island set in space. It was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. They worked in Disney as directors for a while, and some of their other directive credits include movies such as The Great Mouse Detective (1986), The Little Mermaid (1989), Aladdin (1992), Hercules (1997), and more recently Moana (2016). Before directing those they worked as character animators and writers in other movies, and then one day they went to the at the time chairman of Disney, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and asked him to pretty please let them adapt Treasure Island and set it in space. However, they didn't have the best timing because this was after the release of Black Cauldron (1985), which had flopped bad and they'd worked on as writers.
Jeff said a big nope and had them direct The Great Mouse Detective (1986). And after that movie came out, Clements and Musker asked again, and Jeff instead made them directors for The Little Mermaid (1989) and Aladdin (1992), and after each movie they made, they kept asking about Treasure Planet. By that point Jeff told them that if they directed one more film, Hercules (1997), he'd let them do Treasure Planet. They did and Treasure Planet got the greenlight.
The movie is amazing and I won't go into why to keep this a reasonable length, but one of its feats was how it combined traditional 2d animation, CG animation and deep canvas (a looot of deep canvas). It was very cool, very innovative and veeery expensive.
That's the factual part of the story, now we go into personal opinions and fan theories, which are that basically maaaybe Disney didn't really want to make this movie, and it only got the ok because it was the passion project of their two directors responsible for the Disney Renaissance. Between the movie's budget and the marketing they spent a whopping 180 million to make this movie (Aladdin cost them 28m, The Little Mermaid 40m, Hercules 85m).
However, when Treasure Planet came out in late 2002, it flopped. Another Disney movie that came out earlier that year during the summer and had done amazing was Lilo and Stitch. Great movie too, btw, and the marketing team had made sure people heard about it. Six months before it came out you got ads of Stitch disrupting iconic scenes, McDonalds toys... the whole spiel. Meanwhile Treasure Planet's marketing was a mess and their ads either didn't give out anything about the movie or spoiled a bunch of stuff. And they released the movie in December 2002. Do you know what other movie had released just a couple days before? The second movie about a certain boy wizard whose books were written by an author whose name I shall not utter. Oh, and another veery Christmasy Disney movie, The Santa Clause 2. These two both dominated the box office while Treasure Planet... didn't.
And the thing is that Disney knew. They were well aware that there wasn't much buzz about the movie and that it's sales projections didn't look good, and despite all the money they'd invested on it... they didn't move the release to a date that would help it perform better.
Also, while Treasure Planet's box-office numbers might have been lackluster, the movie received excelled critics and even received an Oscar nomitation for Best Animated Picture.
But why they would set up to fail their own movie?
Well, because then they could avoid doing a sequel. Remember Jeff, the guy that approved Clements and Musker's passion project? He hadn't been with Disney since 1994, and there'd been two other chairmen after him. Any loyalty and passion left for this movie remained with the people working on it, not with the top executive's whose job was to make money, not art.
And here's the tragic kicker: films like A Bug's Life or Monster's Inc, aka 3d movies were doing amazing in the box-office, so Disney wanted to switch directions. By setting the very expensive movie to fail, they avoid doing the promised (and likely just as expensive) sequel that was already in pre-production. Making sure Treasure Planet failed planted the first nail in the coffin where a couple years later they would bury their 2d animation studio. A couple more 2d animated movies later that didn't really do that great either they closed shop for good and switched completely to the 3d animated features we get nowadays.
(Also while the storyboard for the sequel is somewhere in a Disney vault gathering dust, there's some stuff on the internet with rough designs for the sequel and info about the plot and it looked SO GOOD AND THEY CANCELLED AND IT'S BEEN OVER 20 YEARS AND I'M STILL MAD ABOUT IT)
End of story time
(And, if you liked this ramble or wish to learn more about this topic, here's the video where I learned most of this and that also goes into more details about stuff like what deep canvas is and the changes they did to successfully adapt the story)
youtube
#treasure planet#disney#long post#nym's posts#nym's asks#and while i do love that youtube video there is one mistake it says that what premiered in 2002 was HP1 instead of HP2#there might be typos in this but honestly let them be#also thank you so much to the anon that asked this

Spring 2023 - 28th Appreciation
Welcome to my spring 2023 rec list! Covering February to May because time flies and I’ve been distracted. But I think that shows you how much I enjoyed these fics, for them to break through. There are definitely others I enjoyed just as much which I didn’t manage to note down, damn disorganisation.
Featuring what I’m terming OT7, Lilo, Zarry, Stylinshaw and Larry.
Poly (OT…7?)
We Need Nothing More - reminiscingintherain - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] - E, 9k, 2022 - multiple pairings, series, everyone loves Louis including the radio 1 DJs - because of course they do :) One of last year’s Wordplay creations, this series is a delight for a Louis polyamory/multishipper like me.
Lilo
Not the Jealous Type - loudicrous - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] - T, 2k, 2022 - tour shenanigans, OT5 friendship, truth or dare. This is super cute, canon, and oblivious!Liam. WHAT MORE COULD I ASK FOR??
Zarry / Lilo
Heart Skips A Beat - harriet_vane - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] - T, 27k, 2012 - This author is always a safe bet, she has such a particular style which I enjoy so much. Unfortunately (sob!), I think this was the last fic of hers I hadn’t yet gotten around to reading. I’ve put it in a dual category because although Lilo is the first listed relationship, the Zarry is in no way background.
Stylinshaw
Quite the Pickle - lululawrence - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] @lululawrence - NR, 1k, 2023 - AU, mpreg, meet cute, crack. I’ll read anything Sus writes and new Stylinshaw?! Double win. This is so sweet and funny but also I’m 100% with Harry here, pickles are delicious.
Larry
Maid in the A.M. - Lainy122 - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] - E, 9k, 2015 - AU, famous/non-famous, cleaner Louis. This one is a lot of fun - I love the humour :D
Once The Dark Divides - zanni_scaramouche - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] @zanniscaramouche - E, 14k, 2023 - kink exploration, friends to lovers, AU. Okayyyyy. Hot. Haha, I was tempted to leave it there but this fic is so well-written, and the relationship and bond between Harry and Louis and how it mutates throughout the extended scene is just great.
Cool Cats - FallingLikeThis - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] @fallinglikethis - 2018, T, 16k - Louis/Marcel, high school AU, hybrids, D&D. This fic is adorable, Marcel is adorable, his tail especially is completely adorable.
like a bastard on the burning sea - vashtaneradas - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] - NR, 22k, 2013 - infidelity, angst, AU. I think almost everyone in the fandom will have read this, but if you’ve been putting it off it’s time to get around to it. It hurts, but it’s beautifully written and if you’re in the right mindset it’s a wonderful read.
all this devotion - princelouisau - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] @princelouisau - E, 38k, 2022 - omegaverse, fake relationship, friends to lovers. I’m such a sucker for pining/platonic sex tropes and this fic has them in spades!
yeah, he's a looker (but i really think it's guts that matter most) - devilinmybrain (venomedveins) - One Direction (Band) [Archive of Our Own] @thedevilinmybrain - E, 40k, 2022 - outsider (Oli) POV, canon, friendship. Honestly, I completely loved this. So intricate, so well written, so realistic - it tugs at the heartstrings and sweeps you up into it entirely.

Oh btw while I was thinking about the discduo Spider-Man meet up my mind drifted to the discduo Lilo and Stitch AU XD. Anyways here's some ideas I've thought about it
OK I was thinking more about what other characters from the DSMP could fit the ones in Lilo and Stitch. And so I thought, if Tubbo is Stitch (Yes I got help in that and now Tubbo is Stitch hehe, he has the chaotic energy for it tbh) I was thinking of who could be Jumba and Pleakley.
I was thinking Ranboo could fit the role of Pleakley since that's a character who is generally nervous but really smart in the things he knows of, and he's also more understanding of not trying to hurt Lilo because of the rules and all that, so I think Ranboo could fit that spot.
As for Jumba, I was debating quite a lot with this one, but I think Techno could fit this role. Why?? Because I think he could be very good in this role: Jumba is a scientist an evil mad scientist that created Stitch without the permission of the Galactic Order, and he tried to capture Stitch with his methods, but was stopped by Pleakley because of the law, and he really didn't like that idea, and after finally being able to do it his own way and technically forgiving Stitch, he helped Nanny get back to Lilo.
So in my opinion I think he can do great in that character (And Pleakley and Jumba ended up being part of Lilo's family, so that could also mean RivalsDuo, BedrockBros and Endersmile content there hehe).
As for the councilwoman and Gantu, I think Mumza or Puffy could do the first one, since I think it would be really cool to see them in that kind of authority role (still debating which one of them to choose for it tho), and Sam could be Gantu, since we saw in the Prison! Arc how obsessed he got about his job as the Warden and trying to keep the prisoner locked in the cell.
And for Cobra Bubbles, I think Philza could do a good job in this one, since he could be very cold and serious about his job but he also would be sympathizing about discduo's situation, he's a tough guy, but not someone who would want to see a family being separated.
As for the mean girls that bullied Lilo, idk I haven't thought of that yet XD.
ANYWAYS let me know your opinions about this!! What some other options do you have that could fit better the roles?? Or what are your suggestions for the roles of the mean girls?? Anyways hopefully next post will be about how discduo Spider-Man meet up hehe

Oof, I’m way too weak to pick one Tomlinshaw as a favorite. Top contenders incl. London Rain by writcraft, The Next Bit Was Spanners To My Plan by LadyAJ_13 (lots of their fics could make this list, tbh), The Million Reasons Why by reminiscingintherain, The One Where . . . series by checkthemargins, and Brighter This Time by jiksa.
The author alison has some great poly and voyeurism smut. Won’t You Jingle My Bells by grimouis is good holiday 3-some smut. 😇 I recently stumbled across (it has basically no tags and no description) A Light, A Shiny Gold by vashtanerados and really liked it - a thoughtful fic, with a moment of deep kindness and understanding at the end that made me cry. A new pwp Louis/omc is Bet On It by nouies— the omc is Louis’ boyfriend who’s also concert security and it’s 🔥. There’s an ongoing poly series, For My Lovers, with Louis/Harry/omc by kikiberoski16 that’s good; the omc is a strong character and not just an afterthought. And there’s a couple Greg James ones I really like: Always Keep You Next To Me by lululawrence and Getting A Head For Heights by LadyAJ_13. (Sorry this is so self-indulgently long 😞). I’d love to hear your recommendations!
Thanks for all of this!
I might have read some of those tomlinshaw but they're not in my saved fics except those by alison hahaha
I did start the Bet On It series a while back and looooooved it (it was so timely!) but I forgot to check for new chapters... I will do so! Love their Louis/footballer series too (which seems to be completed now :/) I will def check out the holiday smut - 'tis the season after all!
If you also want something on that theme, Smile Again by mistresscurvy is a lilo fake relationship that takes place during Christmas and it's really cute! Love The New Posh and Becks by that author too (love a good football au!)
The 2 fics that I re-read all the time are Let's Break the Internet, some excellent OMC smut... very unfortunately it's an orphan account so I have no idea who wrote it and can't tell them how I adoooore this one. The other one is To reach a port we must set sail by thedeathchamber.... Henry Cavill and Italy... what else???
I've probably mentioned those in my previous fic recs but A Tear in the Sky by zanni_scaramouche which is a story about a cult, omegaverse, Niall's POV and not smut/love story.
Zouis: To Catch a Thief by StormDancer; Favourite Boy and New York Kiss by wordsnnotes; Stuck In An Eternal Spring by flamboyo would be my top 3. See also a previous rec post and here. (Louis/OMC recs here).
I have opened and bookmarked SO many fics that I have then abandonned because honestly there's SO much. At some point I was reading only stuff under 10K. Recently I switched to IWTV fics, they have some excellent authors too and I feel slightly less weird reading fanfic based on a work of fiction. But I'm always grateful for some good recs :)

20 questions for fic writers
I got tagged by meikuree! You should go read her excellent fic. 8)
I can't remember whomst among my mutuals does fic or not 😭 consider yourself tagged if you're interested! Let's all toot our own horns
1. how many works do you have on ao3?
63. My account is here, btw.
2. what's your total ao3 word count?
AO3 informs me it's 244,098, which feels like SO much and yet almost nothing based on the time I have theoretically been writing.
3. what fandoms do you write for?
Gonna call out ones where I've written more than a single fic and where I feel it is at least somewhat likely I'll return and write more: Animorphs, Naruto, Blade of the Immortal, and Shingeki no Kyojin, but there's loads of one-offs and smaller fandoms there too. I'd like to write more Gravity Falls, as well.
The rest are under the cut.
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?
With All Brightness (Lilo & Stitch), The Girl In The Water (Spirited Away), beauty, her artificers (Greek mythology), I've got Four Voices on the Line (the only one I hear is mine) (Animorphs), and love what you see in the mirror (TWEWY). Perhaps significantly, four of these were written for Yuletide, and one was written as a new year's resolution treat, so also for Yuletide.
5. do you respond to comments?
Yes, I try to.
6. what's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Ummm. Hmm. One of my friends once told me my fics were "gloomy" but I have a hard time calling out the angstiest ending. 😂Maybe it's Preludes (Naruto), a Kakuzu/Madara fic with Hashirama dying nearby? Or maybe it's On Moths (BOTI), a fic about Makie dying of tuberculosis back when it seemed like that might happen.
7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
With All Brightness (Lilo & Stitch) is so fluffy I think it has to be it.
8. do you get hate on fics?
I never have! Touch wood
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?
Yes! I write the kind that feels right for the characters to me. I like smut as character study and I like insane mindfucks and fucking as another manifestation of a battle of wills between characters.
10. do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you've written?
Like, a little drabble of one back in high school, Invader Zim/Kingdom Hearts lol. I really respect authors who can do a compelling crossover, but I don't feel like I'm that good tbh! Crossovers I want: Machineries of Empire/She-Ra (I need to see Kujen and Horde Prime go toe to toe), Gravity Falls/Attack on Titan (Hange and Bill Cipher being buds), Revolutionary Girl Utena/Narnia (ANTHY IN NARNIA. THE PROBLEM OF ANTHY)
11. have you ever had a fic stolen?
I had a fic's framing device lifted! It was like. Not a songfic but a poem fic. It was that Monday's Child poem, and I had a line of the poem and then a short bit of writing after each line. Someone commented telling me they liked the Batman version more (lol), when I knew mine had come first based on publication dates. It was weird but I was a lot younger at the time and didn't really know what to say.
12. have you ever had a fic translated?
Nope!
13. have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, with an ex-friend.
14. what's your all-time favorite ship?
Hmmmm I don't have an all-time favorite! I'm not so much about the shipping, though I enjoy shipfic.
15. what's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
All my currently-in-progress fics are oneshots. The WIPs that are unfinished, I know I'll never finish lolol
16. what are your writing strengths?
Uhh... (digs toe in the ground) character voice and tone? I feel like I don't know my own strengths lol. I used to get praised for beautiful imagery and having a "simple" style (though people would say this and then hastily clarify that they meant it in a good way, which tickled me) but not for a while.
17. what are your writing weaknesses?
I wish I was better at snappy dialogue and twisty plot, I really admire authors who are great with plot and can write things that give the feeling of like... things going wrong in a way that makes sense, characters dealing with that in a way that makes sense? Hmm.
18. thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I think it can be handled very well or very poorly. I don't know if I myself ever would if canon didn't model doing it, or if I couldn't find someone fluent in the language to check that I wasn't butchering it.
19. first fandom you wrote for?
Invader Zim babyyyyyy
20. favorite fic you've ever written?
Hmm. Hard to pick just one, but here are some both old and recent that I especially like:
quelled and quenched in leaves (Stardew Valley) - a spooky fic I had a blast working on, very well received.
🐻🌠👋🗻FRIENDS🍦💎🔪🏄LEND💞🦆🕵️😲A👊👌🤟🙌HAND🤝🧙🔎💖 (Gravity Falls) - a doofy Gravity Falls casefic centered around some pretty rare characters. I jammed as many puns and gags into this as I could and tried some new things in general while I worked on it, and I'm still proud.
Chimera (Gemini) - exchange fic written for an obscure movie, another stretch in genre and tone that I still am proud of.
A Season Under the Kandrona (Animorphs) - fic about Aldrea and her family on an alien world. I just... love Animorphs so much
long still sea (Blade of the Immortal) - fix-it fic for the ending when I really needed that, written over the course of a single day in a borderline fugue state. I wish I could call on that productivity at will lmao

Wreck it Ralph, Alice in Wonderland, Lilo and Stitch
Wreck-It Ralph - What does ‘being a winner’ mean to your muse? All the capitalist, Social Darwinist, materialist shit you'd expect, really. Making the most money, accomplishing the most business-wise, owning the most and best land/stuff/animals/etc. Positions of power---CEO, Black King, Quiet Council head---and the authority that goes with them. A great body he works hard to maintain. Personally tailored clothes he personally destroys. Very PHYSICAL things, very REAL things. This isn't to say that the joy I get from, say a walk at the wildlife sanctuary and seeing Ferdinand isn't real, but it's not something I can mount on my mantle, or measure in a graph. It's not an objective fact of reality, if that makes sense. Shaw likes very tangible, external markers of success in the fields that matter to him---money, business, high society, etc. That said, he can also see other ways to be a winner. For instance, accomplishing something difficult and profitable in a field he sees as worthwhile. He may not understand chemistry well, but he understands that a breakthrough in chemical engineering requires big brains and can make big bucks, so he would see that as a win. Hell, even if he sees something as frivolous to consume, he can respect someone who produces it if they make a substantial amount of money off it; like he's got no interest in romance novels, but can appreciate that Pyro makes an honest living from writing them. But that really still falls into the "monetary or otherwise external/tangible marker of success" category. I think he also can find admiration for those who choose their own path and forge their own way and do it WELL, even if it's something he thinks is stupid. Like, I think he thinks Magneto is a mad fool, but he can't help admiring him a little. Ditto for his interaction with @dcmonshcad's Ra's A Ghul, whom he also admires for the vast amount of skills he's worked hard to acquire. If someone has put in enough effort to a useful skill to be exceptional at it, Shaw thinks that's a worthy thing too. Also, you know, totally crushing his foes, that too 8)
EDIT: FUCK I HIT POST TOO SOON, LEMME ANSWER THE OTHERS Alice in Wonderland - What does your muse often dream of? Do they have strange dreams? Pleasant ones? Nightmares? I think Shaw's are largely just the same vague, nonsensical random things that a lot of people have. Nothing special. But for things specific to him, I think when it's pleasant dreams it's sex, when it's nightmares it's. . .more feelings than anything else, namely feelings attached to the fear of Sinister taking his body/mind, a sensation of total darkness and lack of being. Other nightmares would be the feelings of cold and hunger that he suffered as a child, or the powerlessness of not being able to help his father as he died from a blood disease, or L as her life slipped away in his hands. Speaking of L, there's definitely a lot of bittersweet ones about her.

Lilo & Stitch - Does your muse have any pets? Do they want any?
Shaw's relationship to animals is never shown in canon in any light, good or bad. He has two hairless cats around in one miniseries who never reappear, and he's shown as having and using a horsedrawn carriage in Marauders (one of the few "oh, yeah, that tracks" I will give to Duggan) but he's never shown interacting with any of these animals. I think he could really go ANY which way---I can see him treating animals cruelly, but I can also see him treating them much kindlier than he did people, and I can also just see him treating them in a neutral manner. I lean towards neutral-positive for my depiction, because I don't want to risk making him too soft to be accurate, but I also don't think making him cruel to animals adds anything, he's bad enough already. And I don't even think it's IC, like I don't think he would keep animals around that were un-valuable enough for him to hurt. I think Shaw gets animals like well-bred beautiful horses as a status symbol, and he wants them to be cared for as such, so he's going to ensure they're taken care of by the best, and he's not going to risk damaging them. So he has an incentive to treat them well, and, in doing so, I think he gets some positive emotional benefits from his interactions with them. I don't think he really realizes it, but they end up being therapeutic for him to a point, and he does care to them to a certain degree, to whatever capacity he can reasonably be expected to have. Which doesn't make him a better person at all, but it makes him a little bit emotionally healthier, and dude needs ALL the help he can get in THAT department.

This is Don Bluth, American Animator, Filmmaker, Author and Video game designer who worked on, The Land before time, An American Tail and All dogs go to heaven. He has a very distinct art style which is vintage 1970's esc cartoon-y over simplified designs which look great in everything they're used in, Some of my favourite films are drawn in this style, for example, treasure planet, Lilo and Stitch, Atlantis the lost city and Brother Bear. The way he draws his characters is iconic because of how exaggerated their features are, for example, the eyes, the mouths and their movements too, they walk with big long movements and they react to things in very fluid ways.

“A woman with good taste,” Aleyna said, visibly excited to talk about something she had always loved. “We didn’t have cable growing up so I had to sneak to my neighbor’s to watch all of those shows and movies, and they were so good. So good. Lilo and stitch made me bawl my eyes out,” she shared. “Oh, you’re an author? That’s amazing! Have you already written a book? What’s it called? Maybe I can see if Run for Cover has it,” Aleyna said before showing her new friend a smile. “Lucky for you, I’m definitely not. Probably wasn’t the best thing to teach a child, but my dad’s been letting me drink since I was thirteen,” she said with a nod of her head. “Born and raised, with no real plans of leaving, honestly. Look past the murders and you’ll find there’s lots to love about this little town. Just the multiple beaches alone is already a selling point.”
Jade was really glad that she met her, because something told her they would be good friends. She had a great energy about her. “Yeah, I’ve written a few books, but the most popular would have to be ‘Ocean Killer,’ it’s about a mermaid who comes to land to kill anyone you contributes to the distruction of the ocean. She also only kills in ways they kill, so she might kill over fishers with a fishing hook... or people who polute by suffocating them with plastic bags... she loves to drown factory owners by pouring oil down their throats,” she said, before realizing she was rambling. She did like this place to far, the people are all really enticing, and the beach was a comfort place for her. She could see herself staying for a while.
