The rivalry between the Kooks and Pogues was just part of life on the Outer Banks, but you had always thought it was ridiculous. Growing up as part of the Figure Eight elite came with its own perks and pressures, but you never saw yourself as better than anyone else. That mindset earned you side-eyes from both Kooks and Pogues, though you didnât care muchâespecially now that Sarah Cameronâs relationship with John B had brought you closer to the so-called enemy.
Still, your longest friendships were with the boys you grew up withâRafe Cameron, Topper Thornton, and Kelce. The trio had been a constant in your life since childhood. Even with their egos and bad decisions, you knew they had your back. Rafe especially had always been different with you. Your families were close, and that bond extended to the two of you. Beneath his rough edges and impulsive nature, Rafe was someone you trustedâa boy who seemed to turn into a better version of himself when you were around.
Tonightâs bonfire was supposed to be a distraction. The kind of wild, chaotic gathering where the lines between Kooks and Pogues blurred just enough for everyone to coexist. Sarah had convinced you to come, promising sheâd stick by your side.
âJust an hour,â sheâd said, grinning as she grabbed your hand and led you toward the glowing fire.
But Sarah had a habit of getting caught up in her own world, and the moment John B arrived, she was gone. You didnât mind at first. The air was warm, the music loud, and the fire crackled against the night sky. It was the kind of summer night that should have felt perfect.
Until he showed up.
The man wasnât someone you recognizedâtall, with a rough edge to his features and a sloppiness to his movements that screamed drunk. His clothes were Kook-preppy, but his demeanor was far from charming.
âHey, sweetheart,â he slurred, his grin too wide as he stepped into your space. âWhyâre you standing here all alone?â
You took a small step back, clutching your red Solo cup tighter. âIâm not alone,â you said evenly. âJust waiting for someone.â
âOh, yeah? Who?â he asked, swaying slightly but still managing to block your path.
You glanced around the crowd, hoping to spot someoneâanyoneâfamiliar. âMy friends,â you lied.
His grin twisted, and he leaned closer, the smell of alcohol heavy on his breath. âCâmon, donât play hard to get. You donât have to pretend.â
âIâm not interested,â you said firmly, trying to step around him, but he grabbed your arm before you could.
His grip was rough, and it made your stomach drop. âDonât be like that,â he said, his voice darkening. âYouâre too pretty to be so cold.â
Your chest tightened. âLet go of me.â
The man didnât listen. Instead, he tightened his grip and pulled you closer, his other hand brushing against your shoulder. âRelax, Iâm not gonna hurt you.â
The lie shattered the moment he yanked you hard, his fingers digging into your arm. You stumbled, the pain sharp enough to make you cry out.
âStop!â you said, your voice cracking, but he ignored you.
The panic surged like a tidal wave, your breaths coming in short, shallow gasps. You tried to twist out of his grip, but he was too strong. His hand moved to your waist, and fear turned your legs to jelly.
âHEY!â
The shout came from behind you, and the man froze. You turned your head just enough to see Topper running toward you, his face a mix of shock and fury.
âGet your hands off her!â Topper bellowed, closing the distance in seconds.
The man released you abruptly, his grip leaving your arm throbbing. You stumbled backward, nearly falling before Topper caught you.
âStay here,â Topper said, his voice tight with anger as he turned and bolted back toward the fire.
Moments later, Rafe appeared, his eyes scanning the scene. When they landed on you, his expression changed. The anger in his face turned cold, deadly.
âWho?â he demanded, his voice low and dangerous.
You didnât have to say anything. Rafeâs gaze shifted to the man, who was already trying to slink back into the crowd. Without another word, Rafe stormed toward him, his entire body radiating fury.
âWhat the hell do you think youâre doing?â Rafe growled, shoving the man hard.
The stranger stumbled, muttering something incoherent before straightening up. âItâs not a big deal, man,â he slurred. âSheâs just being a prude.â
The words barely left his mouth before Rafe swung. His fist connected with the manâs jaw, the force sending him to the ground.
âRafe, stop!â you screamed, your voice breaking, but he didnât hear you.
Rafe was on top of him, fists flying in a blur of rage. Each punch landed with a sickening crack, blood splattering against the sand.
âShe said no!â Rafe roared, his voice shaking with fury.
It took both Topper and Kelce to pull him off. Even then, Rafe fought against their grip, his chest heaving and his knuckles coated in blood.
The man groaned, clutching his face as he lay motionless in the sand.
âLetâs get out of here,â Topper muttered, pulling Rafe back as Kelce threw an arm around your shoulders protectively.
The four of you left the bonfire behind, the chaos fading as you walked toward the quieter part of the beach.
Rafe finally turned to you, his expression softening as he saw the tears in your eyes. âAre you okay?â he asked, his voice low and rough.
You nodded, but the truth was written all over your face. Your hands were still shaking, your arm throbbing where the man had grabbed you. âYou didnât have to do that,â you whispered.
Rafeâs jaw tightened. âYes, I did. He hurt you. He scared you.â
You didnât have the energy to argue. Instead, you reached for his hand, wincing at the sight of his split knuckles. âYouâre hurt,â you murmured, your voice trembling.
âItâs nothing,â he muttered, but he didnât pull away as you dabbed at the blood with a tissue.
âLetâs go.â He intertwines his hand with yours and leads you to your car.

The walk back to your car was silent, tension weaving itself between you and Rafe. Topper and Kelce had disappeared somewhere along the way, leaving just the two of you under the soft glow of the moon. The waves crashed gently in the background, but the sound did little to calm your nerves.
Rafe had barely spoken since leaving the bonfire, his knuckles still bloodied from the fight. Every few steps, you stole a glance at him, the hard line of his jaw and the storm brewing behind his blue eyes making your stomach twist.
You reached your car and hesitated, fumbling with your keys. âRafe, let me drive you home,â you offered softly.
He shook his head. âNot yet.â
âWhat do you mean, ânot yetâ?â you asked, glancing up at him.
âIâm not leaving you alone tonight,â he said firmly, his voice low but resolute.
You didnât have the energy to argue. Nodding, you unlocked the car, and the two of you climbed in. The silence followed you the whole drive to your house, broken only by the occasional deep breath Rafe took to calm himself.

The drive to your house was quiet, the tension between you and Rafe thick enough to cut with a knife. His hands, bloodied and bruised, rested on his lap as he stared out the window, his jaw clenched tight. You wanted to say something, but the words caught in your throat every time you opened your mouth.
When you finally reached your place, you parked the car and turned to him. âCome inside,â you said softly.
Rafe hesitated, his gaze flicking to you before nodding. âOkay.â
The house was dark and still, the only sound the faint creak of the floorboards as you led him to the living room. You flicked on a small lamp, casting a warm glow over the room, and gestured for him to sit on the couch.
âIâm fine,â he muttered, but you gave him a look that stopped him in his tracks.
âSit,â you repeated, your tone leaving no room for argument.
With a reluctant sigh, Rafe sat down, leaning back against the cushions as you disappeared into the bathroom. When you returned with the first aid kit, his eyes softened just a little, the hard edges of his expression giving way to something gentler.
You knelt in front of him, taking his hand carefully in yours. His knuckles were split and raw, and blood smeared across his skin like war paint. âThis is going to sting,â you warned, dabbing a cotton pad soaked in antiseptic against the wounds.
Rafe flinched slightly but said nothing, his eyes fixed on you as you worked. The silence between you was heavy, but it wasnât uncomfortable.
âWhy do you always do this?â you asked quietly, breaking the stillness.
âDo what?â
âFight. Lose your temper. Get yourself hurt.â Your voice trembled slightly, betraying the emotions you were trying to keep in check.
Rafe exhaled slowly, his shoulders slumping. âBecause I have to,â he said finally, his voice low.
âYou donât have to,â you argued, meeting his gaze. âYou choose to. But why?â
His jaw clenched, and for a moment, you thought he wouldnât answer. Then he sighed, his eyes softening as they locked with yours.
âBecause itâs you,â he said simply. âYouâre the only one who makes me feel like Iâm not completely fucked up.â
Your breath hitched at his words, your chest tightening as you tried to process them. âRafeâŠâ
âYouâre the only good thing in my life,â he continued, his voice raw. âAnd I canât stand the thought of anyone hurting you. Not ever.â
The vulnerability in his voice broke something in you. For years, youâd seen glimpses of the real Rafeâthe one who hid behind bravado and angerâbut hearing him lay it all out like this was overwhelming.
âI donât know what to say,â you admitted, your voice barely above a whisper.
âYou donât have to say anything,â he murmured, his hand reaching up to cup your face. âJust let meâŠâ
He didnât finish the sentence, but you didnât need him to. His lips brushed against yours, soft and tentative at first, as if he was giving you time to pull away. But you didnât. Instead, you leaned into him, your hands finding their way to his chest as the kiss deepened.
The air between you crackled with a tension that had been building for years, a mix of desire, anger, and unspoken emotions. Rafeâs hands moved to your waist, pulling you closer until there was no space left between you.
âAre you sure?â he asked, his voice husky as he pulled back just enough to look into your eyes.
Your heart pounded in your chest as you nodded. âYeah,â you whispered, your voice steady despite the nerves buzzing under your skin.
Rafeâs lips curved into a small, almost shy smile before he kissed you again, his hands tightening around you as he guided you onto the couch. The world outside faded away, leaving just the two of you tangled together in the soft glow of the lamplight, the unspoken promise of something more lingering in the air.

Ooh interesting topic of conversation.
I definitely think that there is something to be said about the dynamics between Jedi and between Clones as well. Neither of them really understand parental dynamics because they either a) never had parents to begin with (as is true for the clones) or b) were taken into the Jedi Order early enough that they don't really remember the relationship they had with their own parents. Anakin was taken in at an old enough age that he remembered his bond with his mother, and that loss affects his deeply. It's hard to say how much the others understand that grief because they wouldn't necessarily understand the difference between the loss of someone you deeply care about and the loss of a mother specifically.
And for the clones, I think everyone gets sorted into "Brother" (or sister) or "General". Imagine someone explaining what it's like having a father to the Wolf Pack and them just being like "oh, so he's basically like a General then?" because the closest thing they've had to a father figure is Plo.
I do love your point, Phi, of whether they could understand different family lineages. Because if you tried explaining cousins to the clones I think they'd just get very confused. Take Rex for example. The closest thing a lot of the clones have to parents are their Generals (and even then you couldn't necessarily call it a parental relationship for a lot of them). So if you introduced the idea of "parent's sibling's child" to him, the closest he could get to a cousin in terms of his own life is Cody. But Cody is his brother, so I feel like that wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to him. And let's not even get them started on "cousins twice removed" because omg I think they'd have a brain aneurysm.
tired of jedi characters comparing their relationship to their master with a parent-child dynamic. they dont KNOW that dynamic!
give me more jedi comparing a non-jedi's familial relationship to that of an apprentice and a master - at least that would make sense!
jedi going "yeah, an adult who guides and protects you and you're supposed to listen to them? yeah thats a master- oh, your mom is like that too? neat :)"
more jedi not really understanding non-jedi family dynamics. more jedi being horrified at the concept of someone being rejected or mistreated by their parent, because "why did they choose to have you then???"
there's a lot of interesting parallels between master-padawan dynamics and parental/familial dynamics. i just want to see more of the comparison going the other way.

best friend!chris who's very physically affectionate with you. he'll kiss your small scratches and bruises better, he'll hold hands with you when crossing the street and 'coincidentally' forget that he's doing so after you cross, he'll give you back-hugs to 'warm you up' when it's freezing cold outside, and he'll find himself wrapped around you, stomach to stomach with his face buried in your neck after a long and tiring movie night. he'll fake like he's still asleep when you wake up from your nap together just so he can cuddle with you longer.
best friend!chris who spoils you rotten. there's no such thing as spending your own money when you and chris go out together. he absolutely insists on getting everything with his own card and doesn't like you spending your own money. in a way it's his way of showing that he can provide for you, physically, and financially. you want ice cream? use his card. a new chanel collection just dropped? use his card. your favorite artist is going on tour? use his card, and actually get a ticket for him as well. even if you tell him he doesn't have to do it, he does so anyway. cause what kind of boyfriend is he to not help his girlfriend?
best friend!chris who insists on being close to you. he's always next to you. he'll force himself into a spot beside you, even if it means he has to come in between his own friends. something about being close to you just brings him a comforting solitude where he just melts in your presence. he'll genuinely get sulky if he can't get close to you like he wants to, it usually doesn't happen that often though because once he practically begs and pleads with someone to trade spots with him they usually do.
best friend!chris that flirts with you constantly. he's done it for so long that it's just become a part of your dynamic and his usual flirty comments are played off as jokes. it takes a keen eye to notice the hopeful gleam in his eyes that trail over your face, gauging your reaction and hoping that you realize that his attempts at flirting with you are real and are much deeper than his usual playfulness. his comments will start to go from cringy pick-up lines to genuine heartfelt compliments that make your heart flutter.
best friend!chris who shows a genuine interest in your hobbies. he always indulges in your interest, he'll rewatch all of your favorite movies with you over and over again and listen intently while you explain the plot for the 50th time like it was the first time. he also gets extremely defensive on your behalf when someone shit-talks your interest and will genuinely get into arguments over it even if it's not something he'd indulge in without you asking him to.
best friend!chris who wants to impress you. he can't stop himself from adjusting his oversized hoodie, and running his fingers through his hair when he gets word that you're coming over. suddenly he notices all of the pepsi cans he left astray, and dirty socks laying around his bedroom. he'll nag at matt and nick for not cleaning up after themselves while loading the dishwasher despite him also being one of the main perpetrators for the filth. by the time you arrive, the house is spick and span and chris is fresh out of the shower with a new tracksuit set that he's never worn before. his smile spreads a thousand miles wide when you give him a compliment, all of his hard-work paying off in his favor.
best friend!chris who's concerningly overprotective. he always keeps an eye on you, especially in crowded areas. he won't let you leave his eyesight and will always have his ears perked in case you call him in need. he's quick to stop a guy from getting too close to you. his excuse always being that 'they're sleazy' and 'only want one thing.' when really he can't stand the sight of seeing you possibly settling for someone who'll give you less than you deserve when he knows he can give you a lot more.

summary: mingi loves to push the boundaries of a proper idol-stylist work relationship. even in the work place itself.

warnings: reader and mingi arenât in a relationship but they very clearly like each other, probably unrealistic stylist/idol dynamics, reader is said to be close in age to ateez, reader is shorter than all of ateez (short enough that you have to look up at them), not proofread
a/n: based off that one video where the stylist is fixing mingiâs hair and he reaches his arm up slightly đ”âđ« not super satisfied with this but f it WE BALL also stream ice on my teeth
comeback season. the most exciting yet tiring time of the year for everybody involved. the choreographers were creating new moves to make an interesting dance, the photographers were coming up with fun new concepts, the managers were jumping from place to place to make sure everything was going smoothly, and at the center of it all were ateez: the stars of the show. you were a part of the stylist team at KQ, here to make sure that no matter where ateez went or what they did, that they looked good doing it.
today was one of the established filming days for the music video, one of the most if not the most busy days when it comes to comeback preparations. the hustle and bustle of people running around and talking over each other in order to get the scene ready for filming would have been overwhelming to anyone else, but after being in this line of work for so long you had gotten used to it. you had currently been put in charge of seonghwa, standing in front of him as you sewed a few final gems into the elaborately decorated blazer he adorned. ây/n!â somebody had called your name from behind, making you pause your work as you looked over your shoulder to see one of your senior stylists trying to get your attention. âwhen youâre done with seonghwa go to mingi. he says he needs help.â
mingi. despite only being a behind the scenes member, you had grown fairly close to the eight boysâ one more so than the others. the mere mention of his name made your heart race, and when you glanced in his direction to see that he was already staring at you, you felt like your heart was going to rip right out your chest. you willed yourself to act normal as you smiled and nodded to your senior in confirmation before turning back to attend to seonghwa. you barely manage to get the thread through the fabric to finish tying it off before you feel a pair of eyes burning into the top of your head, making you pause your movements and slowly look up to see seonghwa with a knowing smile on his face. you blink at him as he doesnât blink at you before you stand up a bit straighter, looking side to side as you grow more self conscious under his gaze. âwhaâwhatâs wrong? why are you looking at me like that?â
seonghwa pouts his lip and raises his brows as he shakes his head and shrugs. ânothing,â he says, but the glint in his eye and the teasing lilt in his voice tells you otherwise. you look him up and down and swallow harshly before distracting yourself by smoothing his clothes out. he glances over to mingi out of the corner of his eye, looking back down at you and nodding his head in the boys direction. âheâs waiting for you.â that gets your attention as your head snaps up and you turn to look over at mingi, who seems to be glaring at something. you follow his line of sight to where your palms are pressed flat against seonghwaâs chest before youâ for a reason youâve tried hard to ignoreâ flinch and yank your hands off of seonghwa in record time.
you wipe your hands on your jeans nervously as you glance between mingi and seonghwa, pausing on seonghwa when he raises his brow at you. you gape your mouth open and closed like a fish as you try to find some weak excuse to tell him before you huff and slump your shoulders. âshut up.â seonghwa lets out a laugh at your words before patting you on the shoulder, sparing mingi one last look as his hand makes contact with you. the way mingi clenches his fists into the fabric of his pants and his shoulders tense up doesnât go unnoticed by him.
âgood luck with the princess.â is the last thing he says before walking off. you watch him leave for a second before remembering you have work to do and walking over to where mingi was waiting (not so) patiently for you. you notice mingiâs furrowed brows and hunched shoulders, making you offer a soft smile to him in hopes of silently soothing whatever he was worried about at that moment. it seemed to work as his eyes lit up and he straightened his back before offering a smile back as he stepped forward to meet you halfway.
you put away your small sewing kit into the pouch you had resting around your hips before looking up at the taller man. âyou needed help?â you say, smiling and putting your hands on your hips before you pause and look him up and down. you take in his form: shirt fitted tightly to accentuate his torso, baggy pants for a cool vibe, makeup done to bring attention to his eyes, and not a single strand of hair out of place. you purse your lips in confusion as you furrow your brows at him, looking back up into his eyes. âyou look fine to me though?â you chalked his strange demand for you up to nerves. you eye him a bit as you start to rummage around your bag. truthfully you werenât looking for anything in particular, you just couldnât take looking at his stupidly good looking face any longer.
mingi feels a slight sense of panic rise in his chest as he starts to think youâre leaving, not wanting your attention to be on anything (or anyone) but him. his hands fly up to his head to shuffle around in his hair, effectively messing up the meticulously crafted style. he reaches down and grips onto the hem of your shirt sleeve with the tips of his fingers, grabbing your attention and making your eyes follow the line of his fingers, up his arm, before finally landing on his face. well, his face and then his hair. you barely have any time to process the overwhelming feeling of him touching you so softly before the sight of a hairstyle that was not previously there sinks into your brain. your lips part in surprise and your brows furrow in confusion as your finger slowly drifts up to point at his messed up locks. your mouth opens and closes repeatedly, completely at a loss for words. âyouâyour⊠your hairâŠâ
âwhat about my hair?â he glances side to side, as if completely oblivious to how he looks. it makes you feel like youâre losing your mind a bit.
âitâit wasnât like that before,â
âyes it was.â
âno, itââ
âi donât know what youâre talking about.â he pushes one final time before he offers you a toothy smile that seems to be a bit smug, as if he knows something you donât or did something he wasnât supposed to. âlooks like you have to spend some time to fix it now,â he shrugs nonchalantly, completely unbothered by the extra time he had to stand to get ready compared to the other members.
you eye him warily before you huff out a small laugh through your nose as your shoulders relax in acceptance. you wave both your hands in a âcome downâ gesture to tell mingi to crouch down a bit as you exasperatingly laugh at him. he obliges as he bends down at the waist so you can reach, his sharp eyes staring at you through his brows. âyouâre ridiculous,â you shake your head, but the fond smile adorning your face contrasts your words. you avert eye contact to focus your attention on your job, your soft hands gently coming up to start rearranging his hair back to where it was before. mingi practically purrs at the feeling of your hands on him, his eyes fluttering shut as he unconsciously starts to press his head into your palms for more.
you smile adoringly at how at peace he looks before the smile is wiped off your face when you feel a light pressure shifting your bag around before the feeling brushes against your waist. your hands halt in his hair as you glance down only to be met with the sight of mingiâs hand hovering over your shirt. his blissful state seems to have left him empty headed seeing as he hadnât registered that you stopped moving completely. you held your breath as your eyes were completely locked onto his hand, scared that even the smallest of breaths would disturb him in some way. his hand moves to press his palm flat against your waist before his hand curls to fist the fabric of your shirt in his hand. he lightly pulls at you, causing you to stumble a step or two forward, missing how mingiâs eyes snapped open at the movement.
he unfurled his palm to cup against your waist once more as he rubbed his thumb back and forth soothingly, his eyes trained on your face to gauge your reaction. the slight reddening of your ears made a ghost of a smirk grow on his face. you felt your breathing pick up and your lashes flutter at the feeling before you will yourself to rip your eyes away from the scene. you expect to be able to just go back to working on mingi as if nothing happened, but are caught completely off guard when your eyes meet his. you study each others faces in silence. neither of you pull your hands off of each other; you canât bring yourself to.
you watch as his eyes trail down to your lips before looking back up at you with his captivating gaze. it makes you swallow harshly and you can feel a light heat start to burn under the skin of your cheeks. you think youâre starting to see things when mingi starts to shift closer to you, his face just mere inches away from yours, so close that if you moved then your noses would touch, so close that just maybe he would kissâ âmingi!â but you donât have a chance to think about it before a loud voice shouts for the man. you both jump at the sudden call, taking a step back to put some distance between you. mingi grits his teeth and straightens up while you seem to hunch in on yourself, your attention now taken by the floor.
you glance over to the source of the voice to be met with wooyoungâs figure jogging over. he wraps his arm around mingiâs shoulders and nudges into his side. âdirector says youâre up,â he shakes mingiâs shoulders before turning to you. âhey, y/n!â
âhi, wooyoung,â you huff out a small laugh and shake your head; you find it really hard to be mad at him when heâs smiling so brightly at you. âiâm done with mingi, so heâs all yours now.â you say as you gesture him off to go to the shoot. wooyoung moves behind mingi and slaps him on the shoulders, gripping onto them to guide him over to where the director and camera crew was waiting. you offer a small wave goodbye as wooyoung shouts a âthank you, y/n!â behind him as the two boys walk away. you miss the longing look mingi sends you over his shoulder before turning his attention back to wooyoung.

im so curious-- how well does DUDrow get on with the other companions? I've only seen your art and going off that I feel like: he gets along with Shadowheart, Gale I think he borderline cant stand, and Wyll/Lae'zel/Karlach I have no idea how he'd feel about them but id love to know!
So, funfact, because I was not familiar with these kinds of games at the time I played BG3, I practically stuck with the same exact party the entire playthrough. I distinctly remember swapping Wyll in for Astarion once at the end of act 2 because I thought he NEEDED to be there to find Mizora, and I replaced Gale with Karlach when I went to kill Gortash. Otherwise... It was pretty much always just DU drow, Shadowheart, Astarion and Gale. I did this because they were the characters I liked most, so I wanted to see all they had to offer.
Anyways, I mention this because it reflects how DU drow related to everyone - which is to say that he didn't. He picked his favorites (two because he liked them, one because he has fireball) and didn't get particularly close to anyone else.
BUT, there were definitely notable dynamics!
Lae'zel: She's dead. He killed her night 3 or something. Before that he thought her annoyingly demanding and over the top. I don't think DU drow even remembers her by the end of the game.
Gale: Just to add to your original observation, Gale and DU drow have a little bit of history. Gale tries, for about half of the campaign, to pursue him romantically. DU drow keeps turning him down and is either misinterpreted or ignored, and by the time Gale does give up on him their relationship has completely soured to the point where they are constantly shooting daggers at each other. (this reflects a romance bug I got in my first run, except I didn't realize it was a bug. Either way I think its more interesting storytelling than the intended experience.)
Wyll: DU drow was profoundly frustrated by Wyll every step of the way. He found him to be incredibly naive and a bit delusional in his pursuit for heroism, and could never relate to Wyll's perspective or choices - the few he made for himself, at least. They definitely had the least in common and DU drow avoided interacting with him most of the time.
Halsin: He didn't care for Halsin much. He was vaguely helpful but by the time they got to the shadow-cursed lands DU drow had the impression he'd only been dragged here to help him clear his conscience, which he didn't appreciate. Also, he couldn't bear to have someone in camp be taller than himself. Halsin was left behind in Act 2.
Jaheira: DU drow fucking loves Jaheira. They bickered and borderline insulted each other and had a great time doing it. He can respect anyone who will call him a monster, threaten to murder him in his sleep, and make light fun at him the next day. It helps that she's hot, also.
Minsc: Weird hamster man. Ocasionally rendered him speechless. Puzzling human being.
Karlach: He didn't get Karlach, but he was often amused by her and curious enough to want to hear what she had to say. There was a similar issue here as Wyll's where he just couldn't relate to her enough to have much to discuss, but Karlach at least had an edge to her that made her far better company. They got along pretty well when the topic wasn't serious, but when it came to the problems she actually faced their perspectives shifted significantly. DU drow thought everything could be fixed, that accepting her own demise was a cowardly thing to do - and as they approached the end, and she asked him if he would stay with her when she died, he thought she was weak. I don't know if he ever discusses it with anyone, but he feels guilty about her death to this day and sees it as personal failure.

Synastry observations (partly) based on personal experience, part 6:

Moon conjunct mars: can be one sided asfuhck. Iâve seen it play out. Fully accepting that deeply personal intimacy of having someoneâs sex aspecting your deepest emotions and/or the other way around is a sort of intimacy that some people just.. donâtâŠ. want with that other person. This comes as a shocker because to most people, having a synastry aspect automatically means you have to like that with the other person, but Some people are just not into the other person like that! Or have trouble with intimacy. And even though the very primal emotional bridge between (possible) intensity of emotions and (possible) intensity of sexuality really âclicksâ and hits like no other, it doesnât mean that the emotions or sexuality of both of the people will be intense within themselves⊠or that they will be seen in the same way. Many times Iâve seen this aspect play out in two people who worked really well together, were natural kissers and such, had almost iconically amazing fullfilling sex together, but one person wanted to marry and move into the other person and the other person simply did not want that, got the ick maybe, or simply closed themselves off from that meaning to the connection that one party attached to it but they themselves could not get in touch with, and either abused that power dynamic as much as they could or they ran away. Meanwhile thatother person, and Iâve seen both the moon and the mars person in that situation, is left completely addicted and insecure and an unstable mess because of this, because this aspects didnât cause them so much to be in love, it caused them to have an addiction to this perfectly fullfilling passion and intimacy that they fundamentally lack in their life. They wanted to marry this person because of that. A friend (the mars person) of mine once puked when they saw their recent mars-conjunct-moon-synastey ex (it was a 1,5 month relationship) walk into a room. He later discovered that for some reason, that extremely intense feeling heartbreak didnât really have anything to do with her, but more about the affection he lacked from an absent parent in his childhood, and the (obvious to everyone else) fact that he was bordering on a complete burn-out. He desperately needed that dopamine and those endorphins. Meanwhile the moon person was nowhere near in the headspace to have that kind of emotional intimacy so fast in her 1st relationship, so she started finding him less and less attractive, and then it was over. I once had an international student (moon) I think fall in love with me (and later stalk me) after 2 dates. He was a lonely international student in this Nordic country and his mother was sick in Egypt. We could not hold an interesting conversation on our own if we tried, but we were -very good kissers-and the almost-sex was extremely good. I didnât want to cross that line, because for lack of better words I felt like it would go on to mean too much, be too emotional and too intimate and the thought crossing that border with him gave me the ick/ a fight or flight response, like I would just let this man be wayy too intimate with me if it happened, so I cut it off đ€·ââïž All the hormones of interpreting yourself to be totally âin loveâ are there in the synastry, but itâs not *really* that, and most people in the sorry position even secretely know that, even though itâs confusing because they forever remain adamant that there here was something bomb in their connection.. because there was. But imagine: the moon feels emotionally hit in their core by marsâs⊠sexuality/attractiveness. Mars sees the deepest inner emotions of the moon and feels⊠turned on. You see where Iâm going with this? The intensity and intimacy is great, but for a real love connection you need synastry on things that lead to mental, spiritual and emotional connectivity too. Can you even have a good conversation with this person for longer than 25 minutes? Do you even.. care about them? and vice versa? Would you love them if they were a worm? I have even more stories but theyâre for another time đââïž
Moon trine mars: so. This one is kind of different. What do I mean? Well I believe that in synastry aspects, planetary influence comes to exist in the context of the aspect. Mars conjunct a planet will get all of mars. Mars square a planet will get the worst/most challenging side of mars (brought out by both). Mars opposite will get the antihero kind of mars -the conjunct mars on a possible (and needed) character delevopment journey if you will- and mars trine and sextile will get the harmonious benific, kind of âangelicâ sides of mars. He becomes the Aiden from Sex And The City, the soft woodchipper. This mars is in relation to the moon person a 10th house oriented, responsibility taking man who makes you laugh in the form of making you smile. The moon person becomes enamored with the mars personâs standing for something, his way of solving problems, overcoming obstacles, his professionality and his energetic form of taking action. The mars here becomes the kind of mars that is serious about protecting and heartily keeping what he feels is hitting his mars, instead of fighting with it or having sex with it necessarily. The moonâs emotional being becomes like his healthy objective, that he will protect and will fight/work himself up for in a way that he can control. A trine is harmonious which is kind of how youâll see the mars person get into that civilised and gentlemanly role (to the emotions of the!!đ) moon partner. Where mars squaring the moon is like a mean alcoholic to the moon, the mars trining the moon will be a driven, shaved man in a suit or a spencer, kissing his wife goodbye before going to work. The moon in this aspect is different too: like water, the moons energy decides to flow depending on the factors and tides of the environment: If the moon has no reason to feel stabbed all the time, the moon wonât act overly sensitive or insecure or reactive to every little thing. Being shown the harmonious and safe/secure part of such a powerful planet like mars, the moon person will let their guard down big time. Typically, in this aspect, the moon person opens up, becomes very emotionally comfortable and shows their real and raw private selves to the mars person in a way that even surprises the mars person. There will be lots of oohs and aahs from the mars person who is *absolutely thrilled* to discover that the moon person is actually way softer than they come across in their personality, or more insecure than they wear on their sleeve, or are actually way weirder than anyone would expect. This is like an emotional theme in the relationship for mars. Granted to mars, it actually is a kind of odd way of special, because Real selves are often only shown to others in despair, crisis, moments of survival, very few deep talks, or during sex, but here the moon person is comfortable being their quirky and complete and utter selves with the mars person just during âdaylightâ so to speak, as if they were alone in their room doing a talk show monologue in the mirror. Itâs because mars made themselves this safe haven but is also a good reason to get excited and happy. So this aspect isnât so much about physical/primary (so sexual attraction) passionate intimacy as you see, it becomes a personality thing of more mental and earthy(?) substance imo. In couples this aspect creates a forever-kind of âfondnessâ of each other. In this relationship itâs the sex that becomes the highest feat of romantic bonding, not commitment to each other or affirming affection like with the conjunct or the square, which needs those components to make or strengthen the connection as a romantic one.
Mars conjunct mercury: best friends aspect! Being able to talk for hours, do any activity together, spend an entire day doing stuff together or going to a daylong event with just the two of you without it ever being awkward. Being able to do groceries together for a pregame with each other before going to do an activity that youâll also be doing together. Energy, jokes, and things to talk about never run out. Marsâs energy lets mercuryâs thoughts and mind race through multiple subjects and important comments at once, and mercuryâs thoughts excite slash fire up marsâs energy. Their response becomes fuel for mercury again and so fort. I know two best friends who have this in double whammy almost exact and they are *always* together. Like in the same day, they would hang out, go to do something else/hang out with someone else, then go hang out with each other again, then in the evening one would visit the other at work. I have this aspect with one good friend that I can talk for hours with. Catching up is never awkward and we constantly learn from each other, plus weâre interested in the same things, because his mind/daily thoughts/the things he pays attention to and tells me (his mercury), fires me up and consistently happens to catch my fixation (mars). And what I *do* in my life, the things that were motivation by nature of taking action, triggers his insight! Isnât that the perfect combination? This aspect makes you very good and close friends, but this alone doesnât grant an emotional bond. Moon square moon: a link is a link, an attachment is an attachment, so moon square moon is that too. You will âseeâ each other for who that person emotionally is from the inside. You will acknowledge it, you can even understand it, but trying to emotionally ârelateâ or connect to the otherâs emotional world causes a short-circuit. This sounds like a finished deal, and marriage it often is. This aspect imo means kind of sacrifing a part of crucial understanding of the other partner. So men with this aspect are doomed to have a lonely romantic life where they deeply hurt a lot of women but in the long run also themselves. This is ofc unless the man is capable of self reflection and is willing to do the work and *respect* the challenge that squares require, but since misogyny is a thing that challenge and perceived radically different worldview of the woman practically never gets respected, found interesting/compelling enough for the man to study, or romanticised like the way in which women will handle a natal moon square mars for example. From an astrological standpoint, this may be the most significant planetary relationship with a woman that this man will ever have in his life.
A womanâs venus conjunct that sort of manâs moon I have never seen, only conjunct other planets, but I imagine it would be the same but the other way around at the same time. I think she would be only possible romantically intimate partner for the man, the only girlfriend to exist, only girl that he can wholeheartedly register as âgirlfriendâ, who will hold that *romantic* muse place forever, the only one to forever fullfill his emotional needs like a romantic partner does and can, but he doesnât like her as a person, he couldnât be friends with her, canât talk with her, was never even his type, wants to cheat on her, canât admire her really. This female venus is the sexual but disrespected girlfriend to the female moonâs sexless but elevated wife. If that man ruled the world and had all the money and the woman who marries him would win the universe, these were both equally bad but extremley solid places you would want to be in, because youâd be one of the only two women that he will ever seriously consider in his life.
Venus square jupiter: I have this with almost every man I get involved with, because their venus is in that way also conjuncting my scorpio sun and mercury. Iâve found with these people that they are confused if they should be charmed by the grand/optimistic/philosophical side of me, or cringe. Either way they are overwhelmed. Venus in crush-mode will be especially interested in jupiters views and opinions and outlook on situations and jupiter is enthusiastic about the romantic muse that they see in venus and become a kind of a philosophical rant-y person near them, in a good way, because they see venus as an equally inspiring and interesting and beautiful (big ideas and emotions) creative peer of their outlook on life. Venus listens and is in awe. Jupiter is like a positive-energy bomber to venus and venus can be confused, overwhelmed, but gets all the butterflies and wants to be swept in. This is an aspect where the other knows or can relate to what the other is feeling the least, because jupiter is making venus live in their own world and venus is in their head thinking out loud. Astrologers say this easily dies out because of it, like an inflated balloon, but I donât agree. Mars overlaying 8th house: itâs true what they say⊠i wonât elaborate đ¶âđ«ïž just kidding I will of course. Having been the 8th house person, itâs actually very straightforward: whenever we talked about serious matters like trauma, (lost) finances, our heritage, and our secrets, fears, thatâs when I became most attracted to his masculine/sexual side. Those were the moments I would find myself like âdaymâ, just like a 7th house having mars overlay there would have that during moments of romance and partnership
Moon opposite mars: I talk about this aspect a lot because it just fascinates me. Moon opposite mars in the context of all the other mars aspects is almost funny because in the beginning, when the insane kind of unsettling attraction is noticed between two people, mars doesnât really want to be in this situation and moon doesnât like the fact that it exists at all. I feel like itâs a karmic aspect for mars and somewhat for the moon. Moon will feel every single jab from this aspect but because that jab fundamentally hits them in their *feelings* they will just think: âwhat was that, what even is that? Who is this mars person making me feel single intense emotion at once?â Even typing this synastry aspect out is making me laugh. Itâs moon doing what? Opposing. Oh god. And the lucky planet itâs being opposed is⊠mars đđ€Šââïžđ€Šââïž! Imagine the moon one day going like: âf*ck you! And you, and you, and you,â then pointing to mars âand ESPECIALLY you!â Mars turning around and saying: âwhat are you saying f*ck me for?â looks at moon, boom, falls in love. Kind of disrespectful, but it isnât meant that way? Which can in short make the connection even more uncomfortable for the moon, or the completely the opposite. The intrigue in this aspect lies in how fundamentally foreign (because theyâre opposites!!) these people are to each other. This aspect is an up and down and up and down one, because to have the closeness that they both desire and even need, they have to do the work and understanding to become closer and win each otherâs trust and affirmation. Mars is challenged to channel powerful frictive energy from the fixation that the opposition creates into creating an environment that caters to the moonâs emotional needs. It challenges itself to encompass all of marsâs qualities, both the ying (harmonious) and the yang (not necessarily that) in a hyperaware manner, and thatâs one of the reasons he comes to have like âmultiple personalitiesâ in this aspect. It doesnât help that mars always manages to come across the wrong way to the moon person, can hurt the moon unintentionally, but can also in a burst of martian energy try to fight with the moon when aggravated (caused by their opposing natures), can come across too sexual and disrespectful by the moon person when they intensely show their attraction and preferred treatment to the moon. When Mars tries to be nice, it doesnât come natural for them to do that imagining what the completely opposite person would want. When mars succeeds, a very real and mental bond is created that is extremely raw. In the healthy romantic version of this, the moon isnât really easy sex for mars like Iâve seen male astrologers describe it. Iâve seen men describe it as âdeerâ, which can create reaally different outlooks depending on your respect and goodwill to the more vurnurable person. Goodwill especially can make or break this aspect. I feel like this can either be one of the most pain-in-your-stomach disrespectful cortisol aspects, or the sweetest and most genuine and wholsesome emotionally intimate aspects.

How is there a throuple on prime time TV?And why are they the medical staff on a luxury cruise?
I'm still not sure how Doctor Odyssey is a real show that's airing every week and not some fever dream, but since it seems to be that it is a real show, here's why I think it's yet another medical procedural drama...and on a cruise!
While polyamory has become more widely acknowledged in the mainstream, it's hardly normalized or even common in both media and people's lives. Likewise, queer representation, especially that of bisexual men, is still far from being without controversy (if it's allowed to be represented at all, as Supernatural fans like myself well know).
So, again, how in the world is Doctor Odyssey, which very explicitly centers the developing sexual and romantic relationship between Max, Avery, and Tristan a thing that exists? Or, to put it another way: if we have a story that is unusual for most people and even uncomfortable for many of them, how can that story be told without alienating the audience?
The answer: tell it in a way that feels familiar, and maybe a little detached from reality. So, medical procedural drama on a cruise! Ok, let me explain:
Why a Medical Procedural Drama?
Not only has the the genre been a staple of American television since the 90s (thanks, ER), it's a type of story that is told in formulaic ways. It is, after all, a procedural. Both its familiarity and predictability allow the audience to sit back and enjoy the story unfold with its expected beats. This type of TV is meant to be fun and easy to watch. Such shows might give you some current issues beats to ponder as you watch, but they're not making you do a lot of work.
But why medical as opposed to law enforcement, which is a much more common type of procedural? Because, thanks to the legacy of shows like Grey's Anatomy and House MD., medical dramas have a lot more leeway to be dramatic AND unrealistic while somehow preserving the veneer of realism. It's this allowance for dramatics and breaches of realism that create a comfortable bubble of "sure this might as well happen" that prevents the audience from being alienate when faced with a wide variety of topics that can be as accurate or fantastical as the plot demands.
Polyamory, within this broader landscape, can be a Very Special Episode that just so happens to span every episode, and viewers can be carried through that plot by the familiar patterns and conventions of the genre.
Why on a Cruise?
Oh, aren't medical procedurals so cliché? How can we make it interesting?? I know, put them on a cruise! We haven't put doctors on a cruise yet! (totally 100% real conversation on ABC)
Sure, the cruise premise stinks of gimmick, but what if that's the point? Surely, most people would see a show like Doctor Odyssey and imagine that what makes it different is that it's set on a cruise. Yeah, that's not completely untrue, but the cruise serves a much more important purpose than being a differential on a pitch.
In fact, the cruise, like the medical procedural, is another liminal space that allows for multiple ways to engage in fantasy or reality as the plot demands. Mainly, and most crucially, though, the cruise is a bubble, an illusion, which is a point the show itself makes in the pilot episode. It is unmoored (heh) from the expectations of land, like accurate representations of healthcare, or say...monogamy as default. As such, the cruise makes not only for a dynamic choice of setting, but a very intentional one.
Reality Check:
The interplay between genre and setting is crucial. The audience, with all its expectations, of what a medical procedural drama is know what they're tuning in for, and they can easily imagine the dramatic (or ridiculous) nature of the cases that will be present in a luxury cruise. True enough, as I mentioned before, the pilot episode starts by being very honest that the cruise is an illusion: the captain shows and describes all the craft and skill that goes into creating a safe space for passengers to engage in fantasy. The genre savvy audience is then invited into aligning not with the cruise passengers, but with the crew.
Except Doctor Odyssey isn't really about the medicine, or the cruise, is it? It's about Max, Tristan, and Avery. So the audience is given a choice at the metanarrative level: be the passenger or be the crew. Be aware that the point of the story is the polyamory or tune in for medical staff...on a cruise! Win-win! What I think is fun and clever about all this is that no matter who you choose to align yourself with, you can't ever truly escape reality lurking in the wings. The polyamory is simply there no matter how resistant the audience, but the setting and the genre create a buffer around it.
Sure you can have a threesome on a cruise, it's like Vegas. No big. Nothing threatening to social conventions. It's not real. But reality has a way of reasserting itself: in the tragedies that befall the passengers on the ship, or their mishaps, or the cherished memories they'll look back on. And while the crew upkeeps the illusion, they aren't immune or completely separate from its effects (good and bad). No one can divest themselves from what they experience on the cruise and neither can the viewer.
Through genre convention and its setting, Doctor Odyssey (and I mean, look at this title alone lol) navigates the unfamiliar waters of accepting the richness of the human condition (to echo Captain Massey), and brings the audience safely to shore with a new understanding of what relationships can look like.
And this is how Doctor Odyssey managed to get produced and make it to air, and we get to be unhinged about Tristan, Max, Avery, and the YEARNING. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk etc.

I will just be over here screaming until the end of time (and not just because this is a beautiful shot!)
I am trying not to read into this set too much - because it was clearly filmed during the s7 filming (its Eddies old living room rug - hes changed to a striped one now!)- but man is it hard!! Also that red Persian rug is very heavily tied to Eddieâs wife and his girlfriends.
Itâs very interesting to note that that red Persian rug first appears when Shannon comes back and has now left the moment Marisol has gone and the moment Eddie vocalised to Kim his internal struggles and unresolved feelings around Shannon and her request for a divorce. The thing is Persian rugs are very tied to the concept of status and history and theyâre quite symbolic, particularly in western culture, of family and familial expectations (I need to write a matter on the history of the Persian rug and itâs meaning in western Society but that will have to wait till hiatus but basically they were expensive and therefore handed down through the family and became attached to the concept of upholding family values) so there is this idea that Eddieâs Persian rug is about him conforming to society and familial expectations i.e. marriage before children and being a family - divorce being a bad thing, as well as heteronormativity.
The fact itâs now been changed to stripes - which are heavily connected to the Buckley-Diaz family dynamic, and specifically to Chris, and the concept of change being brought about by struggle or danger. A few examples of this or the fact that Chris is wearing stripes at the beach when Shannon tells Eddie she thinks sheâs pregnant, we also see Chris and stripes during the tsunami, Chrisâs room is heavily striped with rug bedding and curtains, heâs wearing stripes in the lead up to Eddieâs breakdown in season five. We also see him in stripes in the build up to the shooting. With the connection to the Buckley-Diaz dynamic - these are all moments that ultimately strengthen the bond - making the family unit stronger. So Eddie striped rug is suggesting to me that the Buckley-Diaz family unit will become even stronger when they get through this current arc (I mean thatâs saying Buddie Canon very loudly to me but Iâm a clown so take or leave that as you wish!)
Hello gut stuff still being up on Eddies fridge I desperately need to know if itâs actually still there in s8 filming time!
Plus boxing gloves hanging on the wall above the yoga mat - I see you reference to fighting and to finding inner calm. Eddie fighting - fighting to get Chris to talk to him - to tell him things - to be open with him. Fighting to be a father. But doing it in a calm and measured way - moving through the sequence like one does in yoga.
But its actually the sitting on the coffee table of it all that I am screaming the most loudly about - that is a choice - its a place we see him sit when he talks to Chris when things are serious - think when Chris is playing video games late at night and Eddie finds him and they talk, think when Eddie spills hot chocolate over the gingerbread house and Chris throws the house to the ground - both times Eddie sits on the table - heâs also sat on that same table when he asks Buck to try and talk Chris out of leaving (wearing the same shirt I might add!!). So this Eddie sitting on the table is very much connected to difficult parental moments for Eddie - moments when he is super respectful of Chris (hell even the Marisol phone call at the end of s6 plays into this theme - Chris being included in Eddies potential romantic relationship from the start - the lesson learnt from the Ana of it all and showing Eddie is holding open dialogue with Chris), of Chrisâs wishes. Itâs indicative of the idea that Eddie will be patient with Chris, but he will eventually win out - and that they will be stronger for it as father and son.
Interestingly Bobby also sits on that coffee table - when he talks to Eddie in the aftermath of him smashing up his room - when Bobby is doing a similar thing to Eddie as Eddie does with Chris - supportive but strong and firm right down to the use of same maroon/burgundy for the âparentsâ shirt.
Right Eddie house screaming done - now on to screaming about Chris on my next post!

ugh yes you get it itâs not ABOUT ships being endgame i feel like ppl have come to expect that nowadays and itâs really weird. whatever happened to scraping for crumbs of interaction and running 20 miles with whatever we got?? and even if a ship does become âcanonâ itâll usually never happen in the way you personally want anyway. theyâre NARRATIVE FOILS babe it doesnât get much better than this i am eating it UP
i swear the new season has been EXASPERATING from a fandom standpoint. i think in retrospect it was like this with season one and the whole mel thing, too, but enough time has passed that my brain conveniently forgot about that.
i don't want to make this about age, but when i was growing up in fandom we used to have maybe a 1% canonization rate when it came to queer ships, which forced me to develop an array of skills i don't see much of anymore. queercoding and queer characters were there still, regardless of how canon or not a ship was, and everyone agreed that canon love interests mattered very little when the dynamic of two characters was the core of said characters.
i genuinely could care less about mel and jayce when they uh. got together i guess??? and i say i guess because we barely know anything about their relationship and dynamic. which is the point! we know way more about him and viktor, so that's where my thoughts go.
people were making a fuss over jayce and mel fucking, meanwhile i was going insane over their sex scene being paralleled to viktor coughing blood, and about how afterwards we see mel waking up in bed alone because viktor wakes up in bed and jayce is beside him. now, people are making a fuss about viktor and sky and i'm over here thinking of what sky is: a symbol, a representation of viktor and jayce's dream, of viktor's humanity and of his remorse. because that isn't even griefâhe barely knew sky, didn't even look at her once in season one, he cannot grieve someone he didn't care for; he grieves her POTENTIAL, what she could have been had he let her, he feels guilty for being the cause of her death and he clings to his humanity through her.
arcane is all about visuals. every single frame. none of it is left to chance. and this is unfortunate when its viewers seem adamant on not turning on their brains whilst they watch.

I recently watched a video talking about what your favorite Mouthwashing ship says about you (spoilers: most of them are bad), and one thing I explained in the comments that I think is important to explain to certain people (in general with a lot of fandoms, tbh) is that a lot of shippers in the fandom understand that these relationships would not be good and are in fact deeply unhealthy, but perhaps that's the point.
Like, most of the Jambone x Curly shippers I've seen don't like the ship because it's cute or good, but because it's narratively interesting and would be extremely compelling to see. I honestly get it even if I'm not super interested in it. Jildo and Curly already have an extremely interesting and unhealthy relationship dynamic. It is heavily implied that JarJar acts very emotionally abusive towards Curly, belittling and manipulating him frequently and likely damaging his confidence and ability to stand up to people. But he is also obsessed with Curly in a very fascinating way.
Meanwhile, Curly has not only been friends with Jimbo for a long time, but has a fatal flaw of being too loyal and passive for his own good. As many have said, Curly is like a golden retriever in both a good and bad way.
Curly is Jackass' victim and enabler at the same time, which is why he is one of my favorite characters in the game. You both feel bad for him but also understand that he really fucked up and a lot of stuff is his fault. His most endearing traits are also some of his worst traits. Again, the golden retriever comparison is very accurate. He is friendly and loyal and believes the best in everyone (and very cute), but that loyalty and belief in everyone are also his fatal flaws.
He enables Jello because he thinks that there is good in him, and like a dog, he sees no wrong with most people no matter what they do (until it's far too late). I can't remember the fic I saw this in, but one good line I saw once was something along the lines of: "You believe in people and see nothing wrong with them no matter what until they abandon you at the park in the middle of the night." Curly sees no wrong in his friend because that's the type of person he is, and while it can be cute, it's also dangerous.
It can also often be detrimental to himself, as we see Juice be cruel to him as well, yet Curly excuses it as just Jizz being Jizz. He doesn't see anything wrong with the way he is treated, making him become desensitized to Jive's behavior and seeing it as not a big deal.
I think Curly's status as both victim and enabler would be interesting under the context of an abusive romantic relationship. There is an even greater power imbalance present, and Jojo may do a lot worse things as a result and be a lot more controlling and manipulative. He could be more physically and verbally abusive, make more threats, and even be sexually abusive (since he is canonically a rapist already, and hates Curly more than he hates Anya, thus he would probably put more aggressive hate into it). The whole relationship would be horrible and disturbing, but also interesting to see.
I love fics exploring their unhealthy friendship, so seeing it as an unhealthy romantic relationship could be even crazier to see.

There's also the nuances of Anya x Curly. Most people ship it specifically in the context of AUs where Curly actually stands up for Anya and helps her out. Their dynamic as characters could be really cute, especially if he puts in the work to protect her.
I personally find the potential of post-crash Anya x Curly to be interesting as hell. I generally find their non-romantic dynamic post-crash to be interesting enough on its own, but I also think it could be absolutely crazy if they developed romantic feelings because those feelings would develop from some really unhealthy places for the most part.
I see Anya as someone who still holds some resentment towards Curly, but also sees herself in him and feels he doesn't deserve what happened to him. Maybe at one point seeing him go through something similar to what she went through might feel a little cathartic, but anything after that is too much to her. She is also his primary caretaker and a nurse, so she feels responsible for his wellbeing and wants to take care of him. She also seems to read and talk to him a lot, which probably feels nice because she can have some company while also being safe because Curly is not in a position to be able to hurt her. Anya doesn't exactly develop proper feelings for him per say, but she still uses him as a bit of an emotional crutch of sorts and becomes very attached to him because of it.
Meanwhile, Curly feels deeply guilty for not helping Anya and feels she deserves better. He believes she has no reason to care for him, but chooses to anyway, and thus he is extremely grateful towards her, possibly idolizing her to a certain degree. He slowly develops his own weird feelings, seeing himself as unworthy of her kindness and wanting the best for her, while also being dependent on her, even if it's in a more direct way.
They never get together or even realize that they themselves have feelings for each other since those feelings are #messy, but do form a weird codependent relationship of sorts. I've seen some cool fanart of Anya hugging/holding onto post-crash Curly, and it made me think about the potential this whole dynamic has and how unhealthy it could be, both for Anya and Curly. I believe they would not work out or be healthy (though probably better than Jazzy x Curly), but could be interesting narratively.

Basically, what I'm trying to explain is that a lot of people don't ship certain Mouthwashing ships because they think it's good or want to romanticize it, but because it is narratively compelling and can explore complex dynamics more.

i don't know if i'd necessarily say that i think he'd get crueler, but what i do think is that he'd externalise his grief in a way which george doesn't.
it's really interesting that - even though we don't actually see george's grieving process on the page - a standard version of it has developed among the fandom, guided by the few details jkr has provided about his later life [that he can't produce a patronus, that his relationship with angelina is "unhealthy... but as happy as it could be". in every post-war fic i've ever read - and in my own writing - george's grief ends up being something implosive.
he's usually written as drinking heavily, for example, and his drinking is written as something which makes him catatonic. he's usually written as someone who doesn't get out of bed and doesn't have any interest in anything, whose emotional state is numb and exhausted. and he's usually written as absolutely broken by sorrow, but still able to accept the bigger picture of the cause fred died for - rather than furious and looking for someone to blame.
fred - in contrast - is somebody i imagine would have grief which was explosive.
i can see him as someone who would also drink, but who was made restless and impulsive by drinking - that he'd go out of his way to start fights, that he'd do dangerous, high-adrenaline things while drunk [whatever the wizarding equivalent of speeding is, for example] - and as someone who becomes very manic in grief - not sleeping, constantly bouncing from one new thing to the next, not allowing himself to rest because this would mean having to sit with the knowledge that his other half was gone - and as someone whose emotional state is fractious and raw.
and i also see him attempting to soothe himself by finding someone to blame for george dying.
and i think there's something very interesting - not least for its impact on the broader weasley family dynamics - in the idea that this would be harry.

so thereâs a couple of times in untitled that i say that bruce is weird in regards to his relationship with duke.
and i stand by it, but i also wanna expand on it a little.
because i donât think that bruce would be weird in a bad way i just think he would be weird about it because bruce is just weird.
thereâs also layers to it because in part i donât duke sees bruce as his parent the same way bruce sees himself as dukeâs parent. thatâs not to say duke doesnât see bruce as a parental figure or as part of the family, thereâs just a layer of separation that bruce (and the rest of the family donât necessarily understand). i have a very specific relationship dynamic in mind when it comes to duke and bruce and the batfam as a general concept i just donât know how to articulate well in english (iâll give it a go if anyone is interested)
but very importantly thereâs the fact that bruce is aware that he is a white parent to a black child and he is aware of things like the effects of transracial adoption and he can also acknowledge the power dynamics in their situation.
thereâs also the fact that duke is older than most of the other kids were when they came into bruceâs care and the fact that duke isnât solely reliant on bruce in the way someone like dick was. duke has a community there to support him that exists independently of bruce.
all that to say dukeâs situation is distinctly different to the rest of bruceâs children and bruce is navigating it blind and bruce is quite emotionally incompetent anyway so heâs just a bit weird about working out how to parent his new charge.
also i do just headcanon that bruce kind of just stands in doorways observing his kids without ever revealing his presence because he just likes to see them at peace and in their element and that will probably change once they realise heâs there.

hi! ive noticed something.
i love your art so much! its so cute and i love dratchrod! but i have noticed something in their dynamic. ratchet does seem to be in the middle or some sense of center of attention between drift and rodimus. and rodimus and drift seem to have a distance.
are they in a poly relationship where drift and rodimus are more interested in ratchet than each other? or am i misunderstanding?

Ah yes, I have a very specific "flavor" of dratchrod that I like that wasn't very popular when I first got into the fandom.
Ratchet being spoiled by two jocks lol -- drift and roddy are queerplatonic to me! And I'm not a fan of how a lot of dratchrod content portrays ratchet like an unwilling participant in his own relationships.
he's grumpy, not devoid of love and care.

Saavik in Unification is a BAD TAKE
This is going to be a loooooong post because I have a lot of feelings and a lot to say.
To begin with, I loved the film. It was so poetic, thought-provoking, and visually stunning. The ending, in particular, was profoundly movingâI honestly found myself crying in silence as the credits rolled. The handhold. That being said, I hated how the film handled the character of Saavik.
Saavikâs Characterization and Potential Saavik is one of the most compelling characters in Star Trek. Originally conceived as part of the ânew generationâ of the franchise, she represented a bridge between the old crew and the new. Saavik was envisioned as a bright, ambitious young officer with her own aspirations, including a desire for captaincy. She wasnât just a supporting character; she was meant to embody the future of Starfleetâsomeone with the intelligence, skill, and determination to carry the series into a new era.
The decision to canonize a romantic or sexual relationship between Saavik and Spock diminishes her potential. It reduces her to a plot deviceâ showing that when the audience last saw her on Vulcan in The Voyage Home (1986), she never left. She stayed there to raise his baby and be his wife. This choice feels not only out of place but also deeply unfair to her character and to fans who have admired her complexity and promise.
Saavik Deserves Better! Saavik was written as more than a âyoung love interest.â She was a character with depth, goals, and the potential to take the franchise in exciting new directions. Reducing her to a way for Spock to have a son undermines everything she stood for. Fans who admired her for her strength and intelligence deserve more, and so does Saavik herself!
The Problematic Nature of the Relationship The dynamic between Saavik and Spock is troubling for several reasons. Spock, as a significantly older and more experienced figure, served as her mentor and even, in many interpretations, a parental figure. Their relationship in The Search for Spock (1984) was deliberately left ambiguous. The infamous âcave sceneâ was vague, and the decision to delete a scene confirming Saavikâs pregnancy reflected a conscious effort to avoid solidifying this controversial narrative. Modern audiences largely interpret their bond as professional or even paternal, as depicted in the Star Trek novel The Pandora Principle.
By canonizing a sexual relationship, the story introduces a significant power imbalance. When they met, Spock was a seasoned officer near the end of his career, while Saavik was a young cadet just beginning hers. Such a dynamic not only feels inappropriate but also undermines Spockâs established character. Throughout the franchise, Spock has consistently been portrayed as a figure of integrity and professionalism. A romantic or sexual involvement with a much younger subordinate would be completely out of character for him.
Modern Context In 2024, it feels particularly tone-deaf to cement a storyline like this. Audiences today are more attuned to issues of consent, power dynamics, and age disparities in relationships, especially those involving mentor-mentee roles. What might have been overlooked or excused in the 1980s is now widely recognized as problematic. Revisiting and reinforcing such a dynamic sends the wrong message, especially in Star Trek of all franchises.
The decision to confirm this relationship in Unification feels not only unnecessary but also extremely damaging. It detracts from both Saavik and Spock and should not have been canonized!
