ough i wanted to be vague and quick but no i wasn't im so sorry fnsdmag tw for transphobia mostly i guess

homestuck ends. it's a somewhat open ended ending and they dont show the "proper" final battle, but it was implied in the comic already how it was going to go. a lot of people remained disappointed in that, but i personally think its a good one

people keep pestering hussie, creator of the comic, to continue the story

hussie, well known troll (haha) who more often than not both praised and made fun of the fandom directly in the comic, writes the epilogues. they're mostly awful and they're the umpteenth big fuck you to the fandom really; one is the "shipping" ending where everything goes bad bc everyone focuses only on shipping, the one is the "fighting" ending where everything goes bad and everyone fucking dies basically. it has some good ideas, there's more fourth wall breaking, but overall its an inconsistent sexist and misoginistic mess made out of spite by someone who clearly didn't want to work on homestuck anymore

it also features character assassination, be it "this character who's entire plot was about not wanting to be alone anymore is now a sex-crazed maniac who doesnt take no as an answer", "this character who was groomed all her life to be a dictator actually becomes hitler" or "this character who a lot of people hc as mtf is now ftm, but specifically in a timeline, in the other they still identify as female". you could argue it's bc the story is about one of the characters having a villain arc and managing to take control of the story and rewrite them, but he's also regressed to be someone who's obsessed with a character we were told he wasn't in love with anymore AND also says transphobic stuff so.

hussie actually opens the epilogues with one of the character saying pretty clearly that they're "beyond canon", and makes sure that everyone known that anything written outside of the comic itself, including sidecomics, videogames and the epilogues themselves, is as canon as you want it to be. unfortunately homestuck fans cant read and that + the fact that the epilogue end in a cliffhanger, homestuck 2 has to happen

hussie wants nothing to do with it and leaves the project to someone else. they give little to no details of the plot if not a few plotpoints, one of which being the fact that a character must be named yiffany

one of the people who was supposed to work on hs2 and the tie-in visual novel games "friendsim" starts fights with readers on twitter and is later on outed as a really bad person of the biphobic and ableist variety

on a minor note, some updates are patreon exclusive, and not in a "they'll eventually be posted" way, but in a "either you follow the patreon or you dont get the whole experience" kind of way

the story also has to follow the aformentioned sexist transphobic racist bullshit, to which they add terribly written "bury your gays" plot and also cheating!! no matter the timeline my girl kanaya gets shafted and cheated on and by now im gonna be real it really smells like lesbophobia in here

who created a blog where they imprinted on a transfem character, using her distinctive name and image, and gave heavy-handed proclamations on what was Healthy and what was Gross in fandom culture, particularly around transmisogyny

Anyway a year or two down the line, Lego Elves of all things comes out on Netflix, which I watched in the hope it'd be as good as Voltron since the same studio was making it (sure was a different time, huh) and I make a comment about how wouldn't it be interesting if the only boy in the group was a girl too

Anyway again this was someone who'd never experienced a lick of transmisogyny explaining to me, someone who similarly does not experience transmisogyny but had been out as trans for years before them, that the way trans women I knew interacted with media franchises was transmisogynist

The line about tantric meditation in the last chapter made me wonder - what actually is the each of characters level of sexual education/experience? CQL canon naturally only provides very little on that topic..

Warning, this got kind of long.

I have consciously kept my thoughts on these topics rather vague within the story itself, because – as you say – there is very little said in canon about it, and it's one of those topics where people tend to have vastly differing ideas and tastes.

But I can muse a bit about my headcanons in Roadtrip-verse!

Starting with Xue Yang, who is the only character whose sexual activities are mentioned at all in canon:

Of course that could be sheer bravado, but as we know, Xue Yang ”doesn't like to exaggerate when he speaks”, so...

Xue Yang fucks. Pretty much anything and anyone he wants. I hc him as pretty much pan with a gay preference – sex is like candy to him, different sorts of people just variations in flavour. One of those pleasant things you go get when you get cravings. If the other people involved are happy participants, that's nice. If not, it's often even nicer! Pain, receiving or dealing - or both - is a great rush!

Sex is 100% purely physical for him. It feels good. It doesn't mean anything.

I think even with Xiao Xingchen - though he does desire him, madly at times - it's less the sex he misses, more the casual familiar touches, the connection. The sort of bond he's never had with anyone before. Of course he wants Xiao Xingchen! But as long as he has him there, the rest... can wait.

He can be patient, for sweet things...

Then for the daoshi!

There is a lot of myth surrounding those odd, kinky sex-magic obsessed Daoists in ancient Chinese lore! While those practices were certainly not a part of all the Daoist factions (many being downright chaste and puritanical) and the stances on it changed a lot over time, there is still a lot of fun potential to dig into there! The whole concept of Daoist sex magic isn't some new thing invented by modern fandom; it was gossiped about and caricaturized even in ancient times.

At the core of Daoism is the pursuit of the superiority of the natural order, the most original state of the world. That includes things like bodies, and sex, and so they are in their primal form embraced rather than pushed away as something base and embarrassing.

Verse 55 of the Dao De Jing says (exact wording varies a lot depending on translation):

He who is in harmony with the Tao is like a newborn child. Its bones are soft, its muscles are weak, but its grip is powerful. It doesn't know about the union of male and female, yet its penis can stand erect, so intense is its vital power.

The Master's power is like this. He lets all things come and go effortlessly, without desire. He never expects results; thus he is never disappointed. He is never disappointed; thus his spirit never grows old.

Hence my take on that tantric meditation Xiao Xingchen refers to. To achieve that state of arousal without desire, to just exist in that vitality.

Of course there's also the concept (oft-utilized in fandom) of dual cultivation – to let the forces of yin and yang weave together through sex, creating jing energy that can be absorbed to nurture ones cultivation and golden core. That's the other thing Xiao Xingchen blurrily thinks on in that same segment, how within his original cultural framework, that was what sex, that kind of physical union, was about. A means of strengthening spirituality.

Sex with Chengmei turned out to be something very different. In the original sense of Daoist sexual cultivation, it was an important point not to ejaculate, fearing that losing semen equated to losing life force, going against the concept of cultivation aiming for longevity and immortality.

But as it turns out, it feels good to come. Really, really good.

And after everything that's happened, by the time they settle down in Yi City, he has more or less given up on those once-aspirations, of longevity and immortality and spiritual purity. Less stars, more dust, and down here among earthly matters, he embraces this other way sex can work. As nothing but pleasure, the joining with another person, something that gives joy.

And so he is very conflicted in that scene with Song Lan, because now that he has his companionship back, he feels that he should, must hold onto his old ideals, his once legendary cultivation. The purely spiritual. But he is also something very, very human, touch starved, love-starved.

Hopefully he will be able to find a balance in that, going forward. They didn't do too shabby in that little rented, room, after all, so I'm sure he'll find ways to make it work. ♥

And then Song Lan, finally.

While there are certainly elements of sheer mysophobia - the distaste for any kind of uncleanliness - to him, I also hc him as touch-averse for its own sake. Placing him firmly in the ace/grey bracket.

While I hc him as hailing from a different branch of Daoism compared to Xiao Xingchen, there is that same basic understanding of sexual principles – as a vital life-force, it's something valuable that can be used spiritually to strengthen your own energies and cultivation.

The tantric meditation, I can see, was something entirely platonic that he and Xiao Xingchen may have done before. Just meditating into a state of physical arousal, free from desire for sex or climax, as a way of purifying and strengthening energies, like any other kind of meditation.

In my own private headcanons, completely without basis in any canon fact, I envision that he has had a few extremely conservative sexual encounters in his youth, with female fellow daoshi/cultivators, to attempt dual cultivation.

It worked, technically. It wasn't pleasant. The discomfort of such closeness and touch wasn't worth the energies gained.

So he tried it a couple of times, and then decided sex wasn't for him.

And now, suddenly, he's gotten back a Xingchen who – aside from the charming new laughter and endearing mischief – has also become something... Well. Frankly. Very horny.

It's a bit bewildering to deal with.

But he does love him, endlessly. He learned to endure holding hands, to be able to communicate – it was surprisingly easy. A part of him wanting to hold onto him, to make sure he would never lose him again.

He learned to endure holding him close. It was a bit harder, but still – the comfort, affection, being able to tell how much it meant to Xingchen made it worth it. It's still not something he would seek out for his own sake, but something he loves being able to give.

Kisses... Kisses are strange. On the one hand, he loves them, the concreteness of being able to express all the love he feels for Xingchen, so much love that he fears he could burst with it sometimes. On the other, the closeness, the touch... It's overwhelming, even repulsive at times. He struggles with it.

And then this, this territory they appear to be heading into... He has very mixed feelings about it. It's Xingchen, and he loves Xingchen. It's touch, and closeness, and things dirty and he abhors that. Some small, strange part of him seems to want it, even aside from it making Xingchen happy, which is very bewildering. Another wants nothing to do with any of it.

He is very torn. None of this is easy.

And that’s pretty much it, as things stand right now!

Hopefully most of this comes through in the writing itself. And we are finally approaching the arc where proper sexytimes will actually become part of the story!

Basically a Kaito who has never felt romantically attracted to anyone before nor has ever had any real interest in doing anything with anyone.

At first this might seem a little... self indulgent I suppose but hear me out dude..

The most blunt and thing everyone always points to with other stuff with how ambiguous it is that he loved Maki back after she confesses to him.

He’s odd with his wording and personally even if Kaimaki is one of my favorite ships EVER I’m not sure he loved her back.

More set in stone prof of this is how people go on and on about Kaito being oblivious to his friends obvious feelings for him.. that he’s being blind and stupid but I really don’t think that’s the case.

I personally think Kaito has such a lack of understanding for romantic feelings in general.

Of course he wouldn’t jump to the conclusion of them liking him if he himself as never felt those emotions before.

It wouldn’t register in his brain that anyone has any kid of crush on him and so.. it flys past his head without registering to him properly.

So it’s less him being obvious and more such emotions being directed at him not crossing his mind..

I think this lack of understanding can also explain why he’s so affectionate both physically and with words to his friends.

I don’t think Kaito is trying to be romantic or hint at any crush when he acts like that.

It just seems like he’s being Kaito.

Showing he cares about his friends,

He doesn’t see himself being romantic he’s not trying to.. and doesn’t understand why anyone would would see him being that because once again he hasn’t really felt attracted to anyone.

Also in the game there are several moments where he is obviously misunderstanding about others being attracted to each other or just how that works in general.

Like thinking Maki and Shuichi like each other, not getting Tenko’s attraction to Himiko, ETC.

It just seems like he’s really just NOT understanding.

And like he’s acting like he does to cover this fact up.

Expanding on this I think it could very well explain his issues on so called manliness and what he thinks a man should be.

Because of Kaito’s upbringing was by his grandparents.

People with an older mind set, they definitely influenced this older thinking matters on him.

Including how a man should very well have girlfriends date.. have romantic interests in females..

But.. Kaito doesn’t feel that very important thing and so doubles down on everything else they have told him and desperately pretend he does understand how that kind of things feels like.

That of course he’s been attracted to people!!

(He has not)

The poor guy probably thinks somethings wrong with him, that he’s broken, having no idea what he’s going through is actually a very normal thing.

And even if he was told: ‘hey your probably aromantic buddy’

I 100% believe he would be incredibly miserable.

Because Kaito doesn’t want that!

He wants to feel attraction!

He wants to love other people and make them happy!

But he just can’t... no made how hard he tries.

He would not be happy with the new label at all, but be very bitter about it.

Kaito was waiting for ‘the one’ that everyone always talks about so he could finally feel that spark.. but turns out ‘the one’ will probably never come.

It would make him more sad, upset and miserable than I can fully express.

(I also think he would deny this and try getting into a relationship anyway to force himself to feel something but continue to feel nothing and accidentally trap himself in a relationship he doesn’t feel the same way in when the other person is hopelessly in love with him and he doesn’t want to break it off to avoid hurting them. (This can work with any of the characters really but esepally Maki and Shuichi))

He wouldn’t be prideful of it at all and I personally can’t blame him.

It’s a lot different from being gay or bi..

Kaito almost wishes he was, at least then he could feel something.

I have more reasons why I think Kaito is those sexuality’s (mostly ace because I didn’t mention that much) but I don’t want to make this longer than I already have.

It’s a shame no one else seems to see it because I think it’s a real possibility despite being very self indulgent regarding my out very frustrating sexuality.

And also, that stuff about him being sad and frustrated and miserable at finding out he's aro/ace made me sad 😭😭😭 I very much agree, if Kaito were to be told that he'd probably be so miserable and he'd probs think it had to be wrong, he'd be in denial, he'd refuse to accept it, he'd think he was weird and like you said, maybe he would try forcing himself into a relationship just to try and prove himself wrong/prove he was "normal" but it'd just make it all so much worse 😔 It was probs drilled into his head, like it is to a lot of ppl, that he had to settle down at some point with a partner (a girl in his case) and marry her and have kids and all that shit, so the fact he doesn't feel attraction or romantic feelings for anyone while having those ideas in his head would make him think he had a problem and was disappointing his grandparents/the ppl around him who had high expectations for him and that everyone would think he was weird for being like that and it'd just- it'd take such a toll on him and he'd need lotsa time to be able to accept himself and understand there's absolutely nothing wrong with him and that his friends wouldn't think any less of him 😔💜

Do you have any hcs about Dom and Pyro's family backgrounds, how they got their powers, etc? Any shipping dynamic headcanons? No reason, I just figured you might and I'd like to hear them!

You have opened Pandora’s box, my friend, because I have so, so many head-canons.  

I’m afraid this is basically all Pyro. He’s the character that I really obsess over in that ship.  Avalanche is cool, too, but I’m all about Pyro.  Maybe someday I’ll do Avalanche head-canons after I think more about his background.  But for now, I’m going to rant about Pyro in ridiculous detail.

Background:

Pyro’s Marvel bio only mentions an unnamed grandmother under relatives, so I head-canon that he was raised by his grandmother.  His parents were both teens that quickly abandoned him – his dad before he was born, and his mother a few months afterwards.  Adult St. John doesn’t really feel any resentment or angst about it. Since they abandoned him as a baby, he doesn’t take it personally – they just didn’t want to be parents, and he can understand that.  (He sure as fuck doesn’t want to raise any kids, either).  His grandmother was strict, and he got yelled at a lot, but it didn’t really cross the line into abusive.  Little St. John often felt like he was being punished for someone else’s crimes, but he also grew up feeling fairly secure that “Gran” loved him and would take care of him.  He was born in Sydney (according to his bio), but he grew up out in the countryside north of Sydney.  They were lower middle-class, sometimes dipping down into poverty if Gran didn’t get enough hours at her job, but not dirt-poor.

St. John wasn’t especially interested in fire until his powers began to develop in adolescence, then he couldn’t help but be drawn to it.  He could, on some level, “feel” it in a way he could never quite describe.  Gran banned candles from the house because St. John couldn’t resist reaching out to touch the flame, marveling at how he’d never get burned.  He eventually discovered that he could make fire actually DO things – leap off the wick and fly around, form into shapes.  Despite being a fairly outgoing, impulsive kid, he keeps this as a “fun” little secret. For a while he was convinced that he was a fairy changeling, and that Gran was secretly a witch, and he’d get pulled off on some kind of magical adventure.  Until he first saw a news report that used the word “mutant.”

I’d like to give St. John a good relationship with his grandmother into adulthood, but my mind automatically jumped to an angsty head-canon, and I had to run with that.  When St. John was about 16, their house was threatened by a massive wildfire.  They were late to evacuate, mostly because St. John had been off in the bush fucking around like a dumb teenage boy, wanting to get close to the fire.  When he gets back, Gran is frantically trying to drag him into the car, and he is arguing with her that they can stay.  He’s confident that he can use his powers to direct the fire around their house so they won’t lose everything, but only if he stays.  So he finally shows his grandmother his powers.  It’s the first time he’s told anyone.  His grandmother is already in full-blown panic mode, she’s been trying to track down her grandson all day, terrified that they are going to burn to death, and now suddenly he’s not her grandson anymore.  He’s a creature.  He’s one of those unnatural creatures that she heard about on the news, and she just can’t handle it.  So she does something that she later never forgives herself for.  She gets into the car and drives away, leaving St. John behind. After driving for about 30 minutes, she snaps out of it, and realizes what she is doing.  She tries to go back, but the roads are clogged with people evacuating, and the police aren’t letting anyone go towards the fire, even on foot.

Back at the house, St. John gathers a few sentimental possessions, and a few valuable items to sell (anything he can fit into a backpack), and then spitefully lets the house burn.  He tries to sit right in the middle of it while it goes up in flames (for maximum teenage drama), but realizes quickly that even if flames won’t hurt him, he can’t breathe smoke.  He also sends the fire towards neighboring houses, really enjoying how powerful he feels, and reveling in the destruction.  He doesn’t kill anyone, and he doesn’t want to (he’s not in that mindset yet), he’s confident that everyone has evacuated.  Eventually he sets a barn on fire, and hears the horses that were left behind screaming in terror.  That’s enough to snap him out of it, and he just wanders around for a while, stealing any cash or valuables he finds in abandoned houses until he makes his way to the coast.  Then he jumps on a cargo ship that needs extra deck hands, and works his way around Oceania, pretending to be older than he is, having adventures, and generally being an annoying little dumbass that the crew tolerates because he works hard and is brave in a pinch.  A few years later he comes back to Australia and is annoyed to discover that he’s been declared dead, and has to jump through a bunch of administrative hoops to be “alive” again.  He never seeks out his grandmother, nor has any desire to see or speak to her again. He can forgive his parents, but her abandonment really was a personal rejection of him, and it hurts deeply. It largely sets his views that humans are not to be trusted, and that they will turn on him in an instant if they find out what he is.  (Not that Gran is responsible for his many crimes later.  She’s not.  He makes his own choices.)

After getting a degree (his bio actually lists college level education), he starts working as a journalist and traveling around Oceania again, and banging out romance novels on the side. He uses his powers only in emergencies, generally to save his own skin, but occasionally to help others, if he thinks he can get away with it.  He probably starts a few fires as well, mostly by accident.  He tries not to be too obvious, but still winds up associated with enough strange fire-related phenomena that Mystique eventually tracks him down and makes him an offer.  He’s not really a “true believer” in mutant supremacy, but he thinks that humans will turn on mutantkind eventually, and he’d rather “get them” first.  Especially since it’s getting harder and harder to hide his powers.  Mostly, though, he’s in the Brotherhood for money and adventure, his two favorite things.

Sexuality: Because of the whole “Byrne imagined Pyro as gay” thing, I absolutely head-canon him as gay.  I don’t care if he sleeps with dozens of women and declares himself straight in Marauders, he’s gay as fuck.  He’s also deeply closeted – not in denial or self-loathing, just very private about it.  Since he appeared as an adult in the 80’s, I imagine he grew up in a time when “gay” wasn’t something that could ever be openly discussed (ignoring Marvel’s sliding time-scale here).  It would easily get him fired or ruin his career, and with the rough crowds he hung out with, it could even get him killed.  He tends to have anonymous one-night stands, or short affairs, old habit from when gay relationships could not be open.  He has no qualms about sleeping with married men, since back in the day there was no chance they’d ever leave their wives (and what she doesn’t know won’t hurt her, right?).  I’m afraid I’m making him sound like a negative gay stereotype here, but basically Pyro is a selfish jerk, and he’d have no qualms about sleeping with married women if he were straight or bi.  He does occasionally sleep with women, just to keep up an appearance of straightness, but he spends way more time flirting and then making excuses to not take them home.  He wound up channeling a lot of his feelings into his novels – giving the female main characters the kind of grandiose romances that he could never have.  He’d never admit to this, though, he’ll claim that he just writes trashy romance because it sells well and it’s easy.  Avalanche knows and completely accepts him, although they never discuss it openly. The rest of the Brotherhood/Freedom Force have a vague idea, no matter how much Pyro might try to perform heterosexuality.  It’s generally a “don’t ask, don’t tell” situation with them.  As long as he’s not open about it, they’ll pretend not to notice. (And as times change, I think most of them just don’t care).

With Avalanche – honestly, I can enjoy their relationship as platonic best buddies, or as a couple.  If they are buddies, I imagine Pyro kinda pines a bit for his straight friend who put him in the “mate zone,” but mostly just enjoys his company.  If they are a couple, then Avalanche is definitely bi (he has a wife in his bio), and was largely in denial about it until he got dragged out of the closet by his good-looking, chatty, obnoxious Australian team-mate.  Avalanche tends to be the quiet, reserved one, while Pyro drags him out to bars and keeps up this constant patter that just becomes pleasant background noise.  Dominic pretends that he finds it annoying, but he really likes the companionship, and having someone lavish so much attention on him.  (He misses it desperately after Pyro dies.)  Pyro is a huge flirt, and is also the one most likely to cheat.  But mostly, he just enjoys driving Dominic wild with jealousy, then taking him home for intense make-up sex.  After years of basically being the secret “fling on the side,” Pyro actually really enjoys Dominic being openly possessive of him.  Dominic probably didn’t realize he had feelings for St. John beyond “good buddy” until he was dying (or possibly until he was dead, if you want maximum angst.)              

As a writer – St. John is a good writer, sometimes even a great writer.  He’s not a literary genius, but he doesn’t really want to be.  He just wants to have fun.  If the books sell, he’s reasonably happy, although he hates it when he feels like a book isn’t up to par.  Even writing trashy romance, he had to bend to publisher demands and couldn’t stray too far from the formulas designed to sell.  In a fit of frustration, he once wrote a parody of his own work, with all the insane plot twists that he was forbidden from publishing, and then posted it online as fan-fic under the pen-name “Firebrand.” It’s the most popular fan-fic in his small online fandom, but no one has figured out yet that he actually wrote it. He’ll always claim that he writes to make money, but he truly loves it, and can’t really stop.  He’s been writing stories since he was a child, an activity that Gran encouraged since it kept him quiet and out of trouble.  He enjoys reading other romance authors, but he absolutely despises Nicholas Sparks, because Sparks (in his mind) is a pretentious wanker who thinks he’s too good for the romance genre.

As a team-mate – Pyro is an absolute vicious, callous bastard if you face him in battle, and if you’re a bystander. He doesn’t hesitate to kill if that’s what the job calls for.  But if you’re on his team, then you’re his “mate” (unless you give him a reason to dislike you), and he’ll be friendly, banter, drink with you, watch your back in battle and expect you to watch his.  He has no problem working with the X-Men as a Marauder, because hey, they’re on the same team now!  They’re all in the same boat, both literally and figuratively, so it doesn’t matter that they fought each other in the past.  He may betray them at some point, or have his own agenda (I don’t know where the book is going with him), but in my head-canon, he’s just going with the flow. The X-Men are letting him basically be a pirate, so what the hell?  He generally doesn’t like to think too much about what he’s doing when he’s on a team, whether the Brotherhood or Freedom Force.  A job is a job, and he tries to turn his mind off about it.  He’s pretty comfortable just being hired muscle, and has no desire to lead or be in charge of anything.  He doesn’t mind following orders, as long as the leader treats him well enough. I’d like to imagine that all of the Marauders will eventually get tangled up in scheming and intrigue between the Hell-fire club factions – except Pyro, who has no idea what the fuck is going on, and no desire to know.            

Marauders Pyro – I love him, he is a trashfire disaster.  I think he is being a bit wilder than he has been in the past because he isn’t really over dying and coming back to life.  He’s having, not a mid-life, but a post-death crisis.  I mean, he literally got a skull tattooed onto his face.  Which seems pretty significant when you think about how the Legacy Virus wore him down until he was basically looking at his own death every time he looked in the mirror.  (But he’ll say he just did it because it looks cool.)  I don’t think Pyro minds the idea of dying (he’s pretty upbeat about it in a Freedom Force mission when he thinks he and Mystique are about to get gunned down), but the Legacy Virus was hard on him, because it was so slow and inevitable.  It was slow and agonizing and (in his mind) undignified, and he was basically staring down the barrel of it for years while his strength slowly failed - no longer able to control his powers, no longer able to be of any use to his team-mates. He hated it.  He hated the idea of dying in a hospital bed.  He wanted to get his head shot off on a battlefield somewhere, not die in bed.  And now that he’s alive and healthy for the first time in years, he’s just reveling in it, and trying to live life the fullest.

Other random head-canons:

Pyro is terrible at video games. Terrible.  Again, because he showed up as an adult in the 80’s, I imagine him growing up without them, but even with the sliding time-scale I don’t think he really got into video games as a child.  He had a pretty low-tech house-hold with Gran.  He’ll play Smash Brothers with the other Marauders just to hang out, but he has no idea what he’s doing.  He just mashes buttons, and every now and then manages to knock someone off the stage with a lucky shot (which is infuriating to whoever gets knocked out).  He routinely forgets which character he is.  Once he “played” through a round with his controller unplugged and didn’t notice.  (Kitty won $50 off Bobby in that bet.)

Keeping with the low-tech theme, he tends to write by hand in spiral-bound notebooks, old habit left from his journalist days.  He’ll write an entire novel by hand, then edit as he types it up, a laborious process that often involves a lot of booze.      

You can never offend Pyro with Australia jokes.  He knows all the Australia jokes, and he’ll make them before you do.  He sometimes uses obscure Australian slang to mess with people, and sometimes just completely makes shit up to see what he can get away with.

He doesn’t actually like Vegemite all that much, but it’s a very nostalgic taste and it’s hard to get outside of Australia, so sometimes he finds himself absolutely craving it. When Avalanche commented that Vegemite was disgusting, Pyro ate an entire jar with a spoon while staring him down the entire time.  He was starting to feel really sick by the end of that, but he had a point to prove, damn it.

Pyro is smarter than he often acts. This doesn’t stop him from being an impulsive dumbass.  He’s fairly literate, and can quote famous authors while also smashing an empty beer can against his forehead.  He likes to read when he’s got downtime and nothing else to do.  He’s especially fond of Jane Austen (because she’s witty) and Wuthering Heights, because it is a novel about horrible, dysfunctional people self-destructing and taking everyone else down with them, and he lives for that drama.

He secretly watches soap operas and dramas, they play up to his interest in romance.  His deep dark secret is being a major fan of the 1960’s supernatural soap opera Dark Shadows.  If ever caught watching it, he’ll flip it off and claim he was watching the most disgusting porn imaginable, because that is less embarrassing to him than watching Dark Shadows.

real sorry to drag this stuff out but it’s still been on my mind. this is a sequel to the Gay/Trans Anger in my initial post before the addition.(im including the addition in the link because it’s a solid read)

I really do want anyone who thinks the altmer is homophobic to look me in the eye and say what they think of the lesbian couple in the house of reveries. wowie-- them being married sure is an awfully casual drop for two people living in a society that you think is hetero-normative and/or more overtly homophobic.

other forms of oppression in the TES universe and how they manifest are usually remarked upon in ESO-- interracial couples usually note on the troubles they face, sometimes quests are even focused on them and whatever issues arise from them being together. some characters remark on racism they face. i havent played much orsinium but i’m willing to bet there’s a lot of talk among any women orcs about the misogyny they face.

but homophobia is conveniently missing. we see gay couples in, as far as i know, most of the provinces in the game, and yet... no talk of homophobia or mistreatment over it! none at all! funny, that. i wonder what that could mean.

it’s almost as if societies in tamriel aren’t homophobic.

and yes, this all means that i don’t consider the altmer and their arranged marriage system to be heteronormative. heteronormativity to such a degree is homophobia, so i’d figure as much. i doubt all altmer couples even in summerset are arranged marriages, anyways, but if trans people are casually accepted in tamriel that throws a solid wrench and confusion into any supposed male/female-only arranged marriage system and quickly makes it so trans people are not casually accepted... meaning no, that wouldn’t make sense. it’s contradictory to what we already know.

and since a cherished headcanon of mine is trans male prince naemon (who was arranged to be married to high kinlady estre who i don’t think would be trans too and personally don’t HC as such. high kinlady cistre), altmeri arranged marriages being heteronormative and thus cisnormative-- assuming that systematic m/f marriage is based on the idea of reproductive ability even though m/m and f/f couples can very well have biological children-- fucks with me a lot and completely invalidates the idea. so ill go off about it.

you just can’t have that system be heteronormative and forcing of marriage upon a man and a woman if trans people are in it, too, and casually accepted. any man and any woman dealt with can be trans, and that quickly results in couples with the same reproductive system-- yeah, maybe they’re straight, but you run into the same argument that people may use against cis gay couples, except now it’s with a male and a female, one of which are trans, meaning a kid can’t naturally come from the union.

“well maybe they go along with it and just arrange marriages based on gender assigned at birth and the reproductive abilities that come with it” that’s stupid, makes no sense, and also means you’d find same gender couples. because that’d result in trans women getting with cis women and trans men getting with cis men. m/m couples and f/f couples.

saying a fictional society has such a heteronormative system as forcing ONLY men and women to get married runs into a lot of issues when you realize it’s supposed to NOT be homophobic, and it runs into a thousand more issues when you realize the casual acceptance of trans people and lack of transphobia is a thing, even among the same nobles (alchemy and her sister) that the arranged marriage system would likely affect somewhere down the line.

take that as you will. considering altmeri society is centuries old and is probably the most magically advanced in tamriel, i don’t think using magic to use surrogates and the like to create biologically-related children for couples who otherwise can’t produce them is beyond possibility. maybe that could be a magic connected to mara, the goddess of fertility and love. or maybe children aren’t mandatory from the union at all, whatever, i havent sorted through every single bit of information from ESO that we’ve gotten about altmeri arranged marriages. go wild :)

but either way, altmer being LGBT-accepting (read this post for a lot of elaboration on why the altmer are LGBT-accepting + how we have no evidence to the contrary) and having an arranged marriage system that only results in male and female couples is a mutually-exclusive idea.

TLDR; i wavered from my point. read the aforementioned post for a much more solid argument (as far as lore goes) against altmeri homophobia.

Ehhh, depends on my mood. I lean towards female muses in general ( definitely got a bigger chunk of ladies on my list, for sure for sure ) but I love my boys.

Uhhhh, when I first started was long enough ago and the community was so different a lot of those lessons no longer apply. I wish when I finally jumped over to Tumblr I’d realized quicker how the new like....basic ways of meeting people and posting and all worked, which was mostly just a “calm down and go with the flow more, let go of your stupid rigid old habits” lmaooo.

yES. Yeah. Hahaha ha h. 

But ummm, not usually. No. Most of my drama has been either A) me posting the very very softest, most diluted version of barely-touching on my politics and my real goddamn life and people being fuckin butthurt as hell about or B) cutting people who were toxic and draining out of my life. So.

Yeah. Once I actually did — when I started college I just didn’t have the time, so I peaced from the larger community to just write with close friends for a while. I’ve also considered leaving the T.umblr RPC a few times, but really only because of long bad depressive episodes. Coming back and “not wanting to literally die irl ha Ha” and catching up with my drafts gets me back on track lmao. 

14. Do you think rp has had a positive or negative affect on your life or you as a person?

Positive! Sometimes I worry that I spend too much time wrapped up in fiction and miss my real life, but I’ve learned to keep my time more separate so now it’s just good to have a healthy hobby that makes me happy. Also I’m definitely a much better writer for it, and there a lot of networking skills I think translate to real workplace skills so it’s 👌

15. How has rp changed you personally?

See above, tbh. And it gives me a lot of good outlets for writing ideas that would otherwise stew in my head until I hated myself for never ever writing any lmao. It’s good.

16. If you could change one thing about rp on tumblr, what would it be? Why?

Oh, I dunno. I wish I could post replies from mobile more easily, god. That’d keep me a lot more on top of my drafts lmao.

Sometimes. If a partner is actually pressuring me I’m real good at saying uhhh hey, fuck off about that? but sometimes partners will perfectly-innocently be enthusiastic about things I’m not super comfortable with and that’s harder to bring up. So it’s..... more like I pressure myself, whoops.

Ehh. Not really. Sometimes I’ll follow a friend of a friend despite lack of interest just because, like.... My friends are smart and good, maybe I’m just not getting the right “vibe” from their blog as who really they are. Sometimes that just means we never click and I unfollow them later. Or sometimes @rumdaydreams​ drags me straight to mutual hell and we write 20,000 unfinished bullshit and meet irl and she actually talks me into wholeass new blogs and muses. So, you know. Mix bag.

22. What would make you block someone?

Red flags for manipulation and lowgrade emotional a.buse, especially ones I viscerally feel in my stomach from previous experiences. Obvious r.ight-leaning politics ( Weirdly, I’m not particularly comfortable around people who don’t think I or my friends deserve to be treated like human beings! A character quirk, haha! )

Also ngl sometimes I block people just to remind myself I’ve followed them before and I don’t wanna re-follow them six times and look like I’m trying to intentionally harass them. My memory is bad but the block button always knows, lmao. 😅

23. Have you ever stolen something from someone else?

Not intentionally — I try very hard not to steal hc from duplicates or take plots without asking. But, y’know, sometimes an idea sticks in your head and you eventually just forget where it originally came from.

Not that I’m aware of.

Absolutely, for the most part! I like seeing other perspectives, and especially since @thewrongsorts​ is such a bigass multi it lowkey just makes my life easier.

There are a few exceptions — less because they’re duplicates and more because there are hc/fanon I just......dislike enough I don’t wanna write with them. Not a feeling that’s limited to duplicates tbh.

26. How do you feel about vague posting? 

Ehhh. It’s like not a great thing, but I get the appeal. I tend to unfollow if someone posts a lot of it because then they’re just passive-aggressive as a person, but the occasional vagueblog I don’t mind. Sometimes you gotta get shit off your chest but you don’t wanna make it a wholeass call-out, I get it.

Generally I unfollow. I’m here to write, if we’re not interacting it’s clogging my dash. ( Honestly I unfollow mutuals eventually if we never write.... ) But very occasionally someone’s got such good #takes and hc that I stick around just bc I stan.

Poking around to see how other people seem to “operate” and scrolling through posts about how to get started is so so so fucking helpful! Don’t be afraid to do it!

1. sexuality headcanon

i feel like sam could probably fall under the pansexual label; most of my ships for him are with females so it wasn’t until i got into the sam/riley ship that i really gave his sexuality a lot of thought. but yeah i adore sam being with riley and honestly the idea of him being with like steve or bucky too is good too, i could defs see him getting his flirt on with those two dorks.

this is. so hard. bc like. i can see sam with literally so many different people. like i love sam/riley, but i also really love sam/maria, and then sam/natasha is nice too, and really really oddly i thought of sam/becca today and like. at least in the fic i’m considering writing atm, it works really well so yeah. idk if i have a solid otp for sam. i guess i usually stick with either riley or maria though depending on the situation.

okay in any fic i write in which it’s a no powers au (so like most of what i write lmao) i have this hc that sam is dubbed the bird whisperer in anyone’s phone. so he was at the park with steve or bucky or whoever he’s mainly friends with in the fic and while he was there he ended up doing something (not quite sure what, maybe i’ll figure that out and write about it one day who knows) and whatever he did brought all the birds to his yard and they l o v e d him, and some even followed him around a little, thus he was dubbed the bird whisperer.

i too would do anything for steve rogers. lmao no for real though, sam has a really good loyalty about him and he’s willing to do anything for his friends (i.e. take them in, fight with/for them, etc. etc.) and i like to think that those are qualities i have as well.

steve/sharon lmao. okay so like. i don’t exactly hate it, as in i don’t have a problem with the ship if it were done right. but bc it was so poorly done in the mcu i Do Not like it and i Do Not support. like the timing was horrible, it was all very no homo, the fact that she’s peggy’s niece and they flirt literally right after her funeral was in such poor taste and it makes me seriously uncomfortable, and also the way the mcu totally made sharon’s character nothing more than a love interest, and a really poorly done one too, just pisses me off bc she couldve been a really badass character if they wanted to make her one. so yeah. there’s just a lot of reasons why i Do Not like this ship. but it doesn’t like squick me or anything and i can tolerate it as like an old ship in fics, like she was steve’s ex before he met bucky or smth like that.

this one is tried and true but it’s always the first bucky hc that pops into mind. bucky was drafted, he didn’t enlist on his own. he refuses to tell steve that though bc of how fucking scared he is about it and bc he knows how much steve wants it, he doesnt want steve to think hes ungrateful or doesnt care about his country or anything like that. so he hides his letter away somewhere he knows steve will never find it. 

steve only finds out when he finds bucky on the table in azzano reciting his number which evidently, gives up the fact that he was drafted.

i too would follow that little guy from brooklyn that was too dumb not to run away from a fight to the jaws of death klgsj. no but really, bucky doesnt like to fight, he doesnt. he never wanted to go to war in the first place, he’s not the one that starts the fights, only finishes steve’s when he can’t, and he’s tired of war and fighting and all that. and i think that that’s something i have in common with bucky, that i dont want to fight unless it’s the last resort. like i’d rather try to civally solve a problem than jump straight to the arguing and fighting bits yknow?

The situation about rev on AO3

So, I think some of you guys who follow the oumota tag have at some point heard or seen something of a person named Rev. Rev is an author and oumota fan, and one of my closest friends. A few days ago, a person on Twitter posted a really nasty tweet about them. And today, I saw a post here on Tumblr on how another person replied to Rev’s original post about this entire thing.

I’m hopefully not going to make an entire essay about this thing, but there are a lot of things these two are totally lying about. Rev was kind enough to not mention the Twitter user by name, but I can’t promise that I will be just as kind, because this person is horrible and someone I hope you never have to meet.

Just like Rev, I too joined a server about oumota a number of months ago, a while before Christmas last year. I don’t remember if I joined before Rev, but I remember I adored their writing and I loved being in this server. The people liked my stuff and soon I had people who wanted to talk to me. Around and right after Christmas, I had a group of friends I talked to almost daily. And Rev was one of them, even if our timezones made stuff difficult XD

But then one day, I started to notice that the entire atmosphere in the server changed. People started to break some of the rules daily, including two of the mods (the Twitter-user and the other peron here on Tumblr). One rule was to not post character hate, which was very logical and good. But soon enough, people started to post lots of hate posts about Kiyo, saying all kinds of horrible stuff. One of my friends is a big Kiyo-fan, and she was really bothered by this. Another thing I personally together with Rev was put down for was the heterophobia (and yes Auz, it is a really thing and you guys need to quit with your bullshit about it). It was apparently okay to personally ship F/M, but not post anything about it. But yuri and yaoi ships was 100% okay for some reason (sounds like the shit homophobes say: it’s okay to ge gay, as long as you don’t show it)... One of these things was that accoring to them, Ouma and Kaito are 100% gay. But nowhere in the game is that stated. Yes, it’s IMPLIED that Ouma might like guys, but we don’t know for sure. Which is why some people ship him with females, same with Kaito.

The last straw about this was when I was personally attacked for liking Junko. I and another friend mentioned in one convo how we liked Junko. I was personally told by THE NEW SERVER OWNER, that he was going to squeeze me to death just like he would to Junko. Auz and company said it was supposed to be a joke, but the server owner never apologized or said anything himself to clarify this. I was never close to him, so I had no idea what kind of humor he has, and he should have known it. My friend was also semi-attacked for defending me, which was what made us thinking about leaving the server entirely.

The reason these people are attacking Rev is purely because they don’t like them. Rev was different from them, liked different things than them. Rev has NEVER done anything to harm anyone, and you guys who actually read their works or even properly talked to them can see that for yourself. Yes, it’s one thing to write something and another to like it outside of the internet. But Rev is nothing but a supporting and caring person. Auz and the Twitter-user claim that Rev is both homophobic and transphobic, but that’s the total opposite of what Rev are.

And about how we were going to spam with art of “triggering” stuff (aka stuff they didn’t like, they are easily triggered), that is without any context, which is something they apparently didn’t care about when they banned us. So for the rest of you guys, I’ll tell you:

We who were banned, before it happened, had done a server just for us to vent and have fun like we couldn’t do in the oumota server. We talked about how we all wanted to leave the server, but we also joked about how we should make a raid as we leave. Keyword here is JOKED. You got words of this, but instead of talking to us you instead banned us without any warning. You had no context for this, which gave you false signals. You banned us on false grounds!

So for you guys who might be reading this, please listen to me: these people are lying about Rev. They somehow also claim that genderbends are somehow transphobic, which I have really hard imagening. Like, genderbends is just that they are opposite of their canon gender, while trans is that they don’t identify with the body they are born in. If you really are grossed about genderbends, simply ignore it. People don’t like the same thing, and you are able to just scroll past stuff you don’t like or agree with.

And listen here Auz (yes I’m calling you out now): it’s totally okay that you don’t like what we like and post. But don’t you DARE threaten Rev or any of us others. We have been nice enough to ignore you guys for the last few months. And what do you guys do? You lie and call Rev something they are not. Simply for drama, which was also supposed to not be okay in your server according to your own rules (but it looks like they never mattered anyway). You banned us yeah, but you could have at least been kind enough to let us be. Returning the favor, what’s that? And for that part about Rev being homophobic:

I DARE YOU TO DM ME AND GIVE ME PROPER EVIDENCE ON HOW REV WAS HOMOPHOBIC. But I think you won’t... Because you probably don’t even care about the truth, but only what you believe in.

And if trans hc in the nsfw-channel wasn’t okay, then you should have banned others too, but one of your mods comes especially to mind. 

You are also supposed to be an adult too, yet you never acted like one. You didn’t stop and thought of what maybe made us act the way we did. You never stopped the server owner from harrassing me and my friends. And you never stopped him from from postign that discusting thing on Twitter. If anything, you made it worse... Hope you are happy with yourself, because I will never tell people to join you guys or even visit you. I hope people come to their senses and realize you guys are toxic and not worth being with.

Sorry for the ranting guys, but I couldn’t stand people lying about this. Rev is too important to me and my friends, and we can’t have people going around and lying freely like this...

I might get shit for this, but I’m going to express my opinion here anyways. In regards to headcanons involving Ling’s sexuality/gender identity. This gets kind of long, and is also me analyzing why I feel a certain way about these things and whether I should think differently... Also some of my feelings/opinions may be problematic. 

I dislike headcanons for Ling being gay (as in 100% gay, ONLY interested in guys), a trans-woman, and even a trans-man. 

Before I go on, I will say that I’m not saying people shouldn’t have these headcanons. Have whatever headcanons you like. However, I’m only expressing my personal opinions on them, and I have nothing against someone who has these headcanons. 

My reason for disliking gay Ling headcanons: If Ling was gay, that would destroy the Lingfan ship, one of few ships I genuinely care about. It also destroys my self-ship with him, since I’m a heterosexual girl who has a huge crush on him. I know he’s not real, and I don’t own him, and can never be with him anyways, so him being gay would really change nothing for me. It would just mean I couldn’t self-ship with him without erasing his sexuality, so I’d likely have to force myself to get over him. 

Reason for disliking trans-girl Ling headcanons: Again, I’m a straight girl with a crush on him, so it doesn’t work for me at all. Also, I don’t exactly get the point of the headcanon because he obviously considers himself male, so hc-ing him as a trans-male would make more sense. I get people like to project onto their favorite charactesr, so if someone is a trans-girl, they want their favorite male characters to be trans-girls as well. But I feel like it would make more sense to headcanon the already female characters as trans women. 

Reason for disliking trans-male Ling headcanons: Okay, this is what I might really get shit for. I’ll be honest. I’m not sure if I’d be willing to date a trans-guy. Well, if I’d be willing to date ANYONE to even begin with (I’m only interested in fictional characters) I feel like I probably have a preference for cis guys. I know that’s considered transphobic. Because this implies I wouldn’t see him as a man. I do consider trans people as the gender they identify as. Let me get that straight. But I’m not sure if I could date someone trans due to anatomical reasons. I know that’s probably awful. I don’t know if this makes me a bad person or not. I like to think that it’s okay to have preferences as long as you aren’t shaming people for not fitting their preferences. Like....I rarely ever shave my legs. I realize a lot of guys don’t like that. I think they’re allowed to have a preference for shaven legs...but I would take issue if they put me down for not shaving my legs. I know that’s not the same as gender identity, but, that’s just how I feel about it. I’ll just say it, I prefer cis Ling. Also while I don’t consider fictional characters confirmed straight until proven otherwise, in my mind, I think of characters as cis unless proven otherwise by the creator. I never have trans headcanons. But this is also because I’m a cis person who doesn’t need representation. 

Would Ling being any of these above things be good rep? Yeah, sure. However, if I had the choice between...Ling becomes canonically gay and trans and people are happy for the representation, OR Ling is cishet and I get to continue shipping myself with him and shipping him with a girl, I’d choose for him to be cishet. Because I’m a selfish person. 

The headcanons I’m cool with for Ling is...straight Ling, bi/pan Ling, asexual Ling, cis Ling...that’s about it. Because those would still work with what I personally want. 

Non-binary Ling? Eh....it’s okay I guess. Aromantic Ling? Ehhhh...I’m not really aro or ace (though I may be demisexual at the most, because other than someone I feel very strongly for, I’m kind of put off by sex and sexual things)....but I’m definitely not aromantic so...wouldn’t really work for me. 

I’m cool with bi Ling because I 100% ship him with Lan Fan and I casually ship him with Greed on the side, but I’m not as serious about it. But that’s it. And if I ship him with Greed, I prefer him to have feelings for Lan Fan as well. Like I can’t see Lingfan not being a thing, but this is also because I’m suuuppper biased. 

And there’s on more thing...Poly Ling. I have mixed feelings on that. I don’t believe I’m polyamorous. I’ve never been in a relationship in my life, but I definitely would prefer a relationship between me and the one person I love, and I wouldn’t be comfy with them dating other people if they ended up being poly. However, I currently have romantic feelings for both Greed and Ling. Normally my feelings only focus on one character at a time, so this situation is a bit unusual. I feel like if they were real, I’d be willing to try to be in a relationship with them both, as long as they were cool with it, and I’d even be okay if they were together as well. I also can enjoy LingGreedFan as an ot3 even though poly ships aren’t really my thing. However, bring anyone else into the mix? Nope. Can’t do it. However, would this relationship work if they weren’t poly? Would me wanting to be with both of them make me poly? 

Thing is I could also see Greed being polyamorous. I mean we see him with two women at one point in the manga. I could do some reaching and say that maybe he was filling the lonely void in his heart with multiple sexual partners just like he was with other things, such as money and desire for world domination, and that post-Greed-admitting-to-only-wanting-friends would be totally willing to settle for a monogamous relationship with the right person. But of course, let’s say he was real...I would never be able to handle a relationship with him or Ling if they wanted to date other people as well. If they wouldn’t be happy in a monogamous relationship, I’d just let them go. Same with anyone I would happen to have feelings for. Some people may say it’s abusive/toxic to not let your poly partner date other people if they want to...so best thing to do would be to not date a poly person myself. 

I think the thing about the poly headcanons is that I still have this idea ingrained into me that monogamous relationships >>> everything else. I grew up with the idea is that it’s taboo and wanting to be with a lot of people or sleep with a lot of people is inherently bad. Which I know is wrong...poly relationships can be just as valid. And if people want to sleep with a lot of people, that’s not a crime as long as it’s consensual and honest. I guess I just can’t relate, so it makes it harder for me to be completely open to it. 

Also I do tend to ship mostly het ships. Which may be bad? Idk. But I think the reason for that is that I usually don’t give two hecks about a ship unless it 1) involves a character I have a crush on and 2) involves another character with the previous character that I can project onto and imagine myself in the place of. And since I’m a heterosexual girl...well...naturally my preferred ships end up being het. 

Also, this is the same reason that leads to me feeling uncomfortable about Edl/ing. But why is it that I’m okay with greed x ling but not Ling x Ed? I think the reason is...I have a crush on both Ling and Greed, so I can get behind it. Ed...I don��t have any attraction to, nor can I self-project onto him, so it doesn’t work at all. It makes me kind of sad, because that ship is getting so popular lately (probably more popular than Lingfan, which makes me feel...somewhat salty...I mean just the number of new edl/ing posts on the daily compared to the lower number of lingfan seems to show that edl/ing is more popular now. (sometimes I worry that it’s because people think Lingfan is bad/problematic/unhealthy and shouldn’t be shipped :/ ) I mean a lot of people are just sick of het stuff, so maybe that’s why so few people seem to care about my otp anymore...I guess that’s valid. Again, can’t relate. Sometimes it makes me sad. Sometimes I try to force myself to like the ship. Sometimes I see art that’s objectively good and cute and I would have shared it...had it been Lingfan instead. I feel bad about not sharing it. I feel hateful. Sometimes I get angry whenever I see the ship. OR people talking about how great it is...and how “canon” it is, like I just don’t see it. If someone wants to try to convince me why it’s good, they can. I’m open to hearing other opinions, but I just prefer them as friends only. 

I know that’s so immature. I really dislike all these headcanons and that one ship because it gets in the way of MY ship and MY romantic feelings. Which is stupid because...none of these headcanons, mine nor theirs, are canon. Lingfan isn’t canon, no matter the implications. Greed x Ling...not canon. The ship I can’t get into...also not canon, therefore it’s not really threatening me at all??

Okay so, if anyone wants to give my constructive criticism on this and say that some of my feelings here are problematic and harmful to others, you can. I’m willing to have civil discussions on the matter. 

Also another thing, is I realize I’m probably unhealthily obsessed with my fictional crushes, and I need to seek professional help for it, along with my many other issues. It’s not healthy that I feel so saddened by a ship involving my fictional crush that I feel like it invalidates all my feelings and headcanons and essentially ruins my whole day, and leads me to not be able to focus on anything else. 

Sometimes I HATE having romantic feelings at all, because this is how I get, with every single character I fall for, every single time.

40. Do you think the movies did the books justice?

Yes and no. I will stand forever and die on the Catherine-Hardwicke-Did-It-Best hill. Above them all, I’d say that Catherine captured the essence of the books the most accurately. Maybe it’s the blue filter, I don’t know, but she got that creepy/sad/romantic Forks vibe that drew me into the series in the first place. She really got the perfect balance of romance, action, fantasy, high school, the whole thing. So yeah, I think she did a great job with the books. Chris Weitz did alright with New Moon – I love the brownish, jacob-y vibe, I think they adapted the script well and did a fan-fucking-tastic job on the soundtrack too, so that one would be my second favourite book-to-movie. The other two? Eh. I think they lost something that the books had. Eclipse WAS my favourite when it first came out but watching them now, I feel like the last three movies are just missing something wonderful that the first two movies and the first three books (sorry bd) had. 

28. How would you personally rewrite Twilight?

For those of you who haven’t seen it, I have a bit up on my personal twilight rewrite idea up here! It’s a little bare bones in terms of what I’d do with breaking dawn, but I can elaborate on that here! 

Going with the rest of my switch-new-moon-and-eclipse-au, I’d have Bella changed and conflicted starting in BD. I think it would be SUPER interesting to have the main conflict be something to do with the volturi and the shape shifters. Maybe the clan and the pack finally join forces bc Bella is changed but still loves her Jake, but out in the world shapeshifters are showing up dead at the volturi’s hand or something ??????? and they need to band together to save the wolves and Jake before the volturi eliminate the species altogether.

Could be interesting, IDK. There’s a lot less renesmess and an opportunity still for Jake to meet Benjamin so I’m all for it. 

37. What’s your perspective on Twilight now compared to when you first read it?

I think about this all the fucking time.When I first read Twilight, it was just before the first movie came out in 2008. I was almost twelve years old, and dumber than most twelve year olds, lbr. I didn’t see any issues in the book. I thought it was novel (pun intended), and romantic, and Hell, come Breaking Dawn I was even all aboard the Nessie train. I was SM brainwashed, kind of. I trusted our author. Coming back to Twilight in 2019 was a literal fucking shock to the system. I watched the movies for the first time in like five years, and was utterly shocked by the ample fucking problematic shit I noticed in every fucking scene. What hurt the most? Realizing my favourite character was the worst fucking show of racist propaganda in the entire goddamn series. I got angry when I watched the series again for the first time. I didn’t want anything to do with it. I felt ashamed, honestly. I felt bad looking at the piece of media, and seeing how twisted and disgusting and wrong so many parts of it were. But then I went online. I knew Twilight was becoming a thing again, and I didnt understand how such problematic media worked in this day in age, so I was curious to see what the discourse was like.��Guys, I’m so fucking glad I did. There’s something so nice about being able to clearly see and discuss issues in this saga, while still appreciating that it digs into your nostalgia and has the opportunity to be so much bigger and better than SM ever intended. I love signing on here and seeing someone discuss our HCs – seeing how people take these characters and stretch and shift and mold them to embody what the world looks like today. I love coming here to read about favourites portrayed as characters of colour, or how said characters could be portrayed as trans,  or nb, or gay, or how this character could be better shown as A, B, C – you catch my drift. It’s not just that, either. It’s not just the changes that I appreciate, either.

There’s something about acknowledging the things that can’t be changed within the original text – starting conversations about the treatment of native characters, discussing the portrayal of females presenting characters, working through SM’s religious biases – that not only helps me appreciate what this text should have been / can be now, but seriously, has helped me learn a lot along the way. I’m a very faulty white girl. Coming here and learning new perspectives from people who are impacted by specific biases / choices made in this series has been one of the most eye opening experiences I’ve had online. And that’s another thing – I’ve never once been criticized for still having so much to learn, un-learn, or understand from a different perspective. The people in this fandom (so far – I feel very lucky) have been more than open in discussing their criticisms, concerns, and understandings in a way that makes me feel welcome, and encouraged to learn/understand more. It’s a super inclusive fandom –  freakin’ rare to see – but it’s also the kind of fandom that isn’t afraid to see its own faults – that’s even more rare. We’re all aware of our fandom’s problems, and we aren’t afraid to talk about them, or acknowledge the fact that SM’s beliefs aren’t a reflection of US. It’s special. It’s amazing. It’s why I’ve stuck around for almost a year now.

Not one in particular, but I think the whole world of shapeshifters could and SHOULD be explored more deeply!!!!!In terms of specific characters: Alice (duh), Carlisle (take me back to the 1800s or some shit show me his life in the volturi!!!!!), Leah Clearwater (she’d be my wolf-pack-spin-off main character).

Can you list ever reason why you love Supergirl??

I CAN TRY

1. I’m going to start off with one of the sappiest things and say: how much it’s helped me grow. The show has helped me meet and get closer to so many people and when Alex was realizing she was a lesbian, that was around the time I was coming to terms with my own sexuality and it helped. A lot. Maggie especially, because the character (not the actress unfortunately) is an LGBT+ PoC and so am I. Finding out she had a tough time coming out too made me feel less tense and panicked. Because the show gave me an example of how WLW can be happy, and I didn’t have anything else but non-canon gays to help me with that at the time, so it really shaped me and my idea of relationships in ways I can’t complain about.

2. You wouldn’t expect this, but even the whole Karamel thing helped. In short, it showed me what I DON’T want in a relationship with anyone of any gender from any country, continent, or planet. In length, it showed a contrasting difference in outcome of each relationship per episode. Every Karamel-centered episode ended with Kara or Mon-El totally dissatisfied, dishonest, or even angry in some way. Every Supercorp and/or Sanvers centric episode was whole and pure and open and just… gave me a fluffy feeling about everything. The finale for S1 was good, and joyful, and showed that Kara felt safe with her peers even though she ended up single. At the end of S2, she leaves her sister, her boss, her friends—everything she felt awesome about last finale, hmm—and she’s flying off, brooding about a guy who brought the goddamn apocalypse. But hey, at least S1 and S2 have something in common. She’s frowning about Mon-El either way. Except in S1, she stands with her family and maintains the love for everyone she knows which she’s built all fucking season! In S2, she’s alone! And clearly destroyed! And basically, it’s a perfect example of how a good relationship ending vs a toxic one ending. James Olsen, the good boyfriend AND good ex. Get you a man who can do both.

3. Just, I’ve never said this and gone really deep about it, but—Supercorp. Everything would be set up as golden endgame. But even if it isn’t romantic by the end of S3 (or the entire series), it’s still such a wholesome addition to the show. It’s still a great example of how supportive and uplifting and healing female friendships can be, and if it’s canon at any point, it’s equally great—it would be not the first, but the SECOND healthy and functioning WLW relationship on this show. There have been what, four, (maybe five if you count Clois which I won’t because we have literally no idea about Lois and Clark’s relationship which has only ever been compared to Karamel and we know how that goes) good and functioning relationships—Eliza and Jeremiah (rip that because Eliza is pretty much written off as The Mom idk how she’s doing upon finding out Jeremiah’s working to deport or destroy their own daughter but. for another time, friends), James and Kara, Jack and Lena, then Alex and Maggie. For another one of the main cast to be in an LGBT+ relationship would not only be good for the viewers and help a loooot of people with coming out to family and even themselves, but also good for the ratings. Supergirl is bi*! Imagine, it would skyrocket because I’m pretty sure she’d be !!one of!! the first female superheroes in an LGBT+ relationship. And that’s why I’m really unsure of why it ISN’T canon yet but. Okay, CW. Supercorp is just incredible, okay? I thought I lost Rilaya to Disney Channel but here they are, reborn, alive and healthy, and gayer than ever.

4. J'onn J'onzz’s entire arc fascinates me. Survivor’s guilt is captured so well and for J'onn, never truly goes away. I’m not sure if that’s to credit to David Harewood (the actor who plays J'onn if you didn’t know! he’s a gem, follow his Instagram!), or if he’s just written that way, but I like how it’s played out. It feels so real and so painful in the right ways and that seems to be a running theme in this show because—

5. —the next few down this list were going to be the well-rounded and long-lasting effects of events on all of the characters, like Lena with her mother and Lex (which has actually shaped the way my mother treats me IRL for the better so yooo), and Winn with his father (his one-liners fucking ruin me someone that isn’t Lyra please love him), and James with his entire ‘damsel in distress’ to 'sidekick dudebro’ experience with both Supers (which is also relatable?? and I like how it doesn’t leave him ruined??? he grows and shapes himself and that’s just????? so amazing to witness on television ??!!), Maggie with all her exes, Cat Grant with Adam and presumably Adam and Carter’s dads, M'gann with the guilt of her people’s doings (so the CW DOES know how to write that… interesting), it’s all so realistic and just, I like how they don’t just drop it as soon as the episode is over. It’s a running theme and it’s part of their character development and that’s something that I still firmly believe is done better in The Flash (2014) but is still very well done in Supergirl, and it’s really been a good example on how you can be a villain or a victim, but it’s all in what you do with the guilt or do with the pain. If you choose to grow, or choose to wallow. It’s up to you and this show has moved me so much to grow.

6. Since my answers are really lengthy at this point, I’m going to cut it short and just rave about how enthusiastic the cast is. (*cough* Melwood is PR so I’m not counting that. *cough*) David really is Space Dad. Melissa really is Kara “Awkward Sunshine” Danvers. Chyler really is Supportive GF Alex Danvers (and she’s not even a lesbian! she’s married! and her husband [from what I can tell] is very supportive of this!!!!! I love them both sm!). And they’re just… all so good to each other, and to their fans. It makes me so proud, and gives so much hope for friendships that have already been formed because of a mutual love of them and this show has just brought so much joy into my life and I could go on about ANYTHING in this show just lemme at 'em.

*Or pan, or anything really. I personally HC her as bi, but that doesn't mean that's the only label she could put on. Read bi as whatever you like! :D

RWBY RP FANDOM.

This is a way I can bitch while not getting any hate~  

Why.....  

why do you either have to ship with EVERYONE or....  write tons of smut to get any attention in the rwby fandom. 

I only ship chemistry  .... everyone seems to  say that... but none mean it??  

I’ve tried so hard to get interesting RP’s going... but I always hear... “Okay... do you think we could add romance in there too?”  

“I only write romance, I’m not good at anything else”

“Sure, I’ll write with you” But then the rp is dropped in one day because my muse isn’t all over yours....  

------ The most popular  Accounts... are the one’s that ship with everyone... which leads me to conclude that, ya’ll ONLY want to ship.....  I’ve tried SO

HARD.... to be apart of this fandom.....but when people ignore you because they’re not getting what they want.... it sucks.   

Once, when I was basically the only active account of my muse..... I had lots of nice interactions... they never lasted long because I wouldn’t ship? But at least it was something.   I’d also get some very sweet asks.......  But as SOON as another of my muse popped up (that shipped like crazy and had nicer edits)  everyone flocked to them...... 

All my “friends”  .... .stopped talking to me.  I constantly reblogged memes.... sent things to others.... I got nothing???  Like thanks???    My portrayal was praised constantly....  but as soon as someone apparently better showed up.  I was dropped.... JUST BECAUSE THEY SHIP,  YO ... i KNOW FOR A FACT... that was the only reason.   

Now.... this isn’t just an issue in the rwby fandom.... I’ve noticed in a LOT of fandoms people just? Ignore people if they can’t romance out of them.   

It’s unfair--  YOU DON’T KNOW HOW MUCH I ADORE RWBY...the characters... the story.  I have so much muse to write.... and I feel like I can’t even come back...... because no one will write anything decent with me..........

I think another issue is... I HC my character as straight....  and no one seems to respect this? ....female muses will still come on to my character...  like... trying to FORCE it....  

NOT COOL.  No matter how much I liked a ship--if someone HC’d their muse as gay?  I’d back off and respect their choice.  UGHHHH, this is such a horrible rant.... but I need to do this...   

it’s all pent up anger.  

I honestly don’t think I’ll ever get to write out all these idea I have in my head...... because of this “I only write if I get romance out of it” attitude.
