I think when it comes to EPIC it should be noted that I don’t hate Odysseus, I just think this fandom likes to demonize his two friends (Polites and Eurylochus) too much to the point I defend them more than their captain who the fandom refuses to see he has made his own mistakes.

Also I would like to point out that yes, y’all have been assholes because I’ve seen a few people over on Twitter state how it’s almost not fun to post content of a character like Eurylochus anymore without getting some downright nasty ass comments. Y’all refuse to behave normally and it’s so fucking weird.

One of the most baffling things to happen to me occurred about 3 or 4 months ago with someone on here I thought was my friend.

Long story short, I politely declined an invite to an in-game gathering on XIV to celebrate them getting 600 followers on BlueSky because I was unsubscribed due to not feeling like playing at the time and really couldn't justify buying a month sub to show up for an hour and not knowing anyone else. I had previously done that for their 200 followers celebration and ended up spending two hours off to the side playing my Switch and periodically checking in to keep from getting kicked for inactivity; wasn't really fiscally responsible on my part, but I thanked them for the invite and sincerely congratulated them on the milestone.

They responded by getting angry and accusing me of calling them a "clout chaser" and of being selfish.

I was so baffled by the nastiness that I tried to apologize and explain that I was genuinely happy for them.

This just led to me getting blocked.

oh wow. me ranting about how i dont enjoy dol as much anymore really blew up. uh.

hiiii. just wanted to get this one out of the way. i think hate is a very strong word - not the term i would use to describe my current feelings towards dol - but since it's been interpreted that way...

i think the canon being so 'set in stone' is what has made me dislike it so much. i miss early game dol, where everyone in the fandom was brainstorming possible backstories for all of the characters and potential interactions the characters could have with one another. and now, well, those characters are interacting with eachother but i just can't find it within myself to care ? i don't know if it's a writing issue, or a me issue, but i just don't enjoy it anymore.

again, hate is not the vibe i was trying to exude. it was literally just me voicing my frustrations about the game's current state and how i don't like it anymore.

but yeah. even though the game is still ongoing and has time to grow and develop - i think that people should still be able to criticise it's content. criticism/general disinterest shouldn't be labelled as hate :/
