Sorry I’m not replying to messages. I do see them. I’m answering some asks and posting a bit of random thought stuff on twitter but I’m feeling kind of like I’m retreating to my old hermit state of internet usage.

These past few weeks I haven’t had energy to do a lot of stuff. It currently takes a lot out of me to reply individually because I’m trying to secure a job for myself again. So a lot of my energy is put there and worrying about my finances and future…

As for art stuff, I thought about starting to post again but due to the recent AI stuff that was released about sketches being converted to lineart easily, I got a bit paranoid again so it might take a while. I’m reading comics between breaks and rediscovering my love for stories so that’s good

i really hate “it’s x, what did critics expect?” discourse. as if critics are dumdumbs who walk into every movie expecting it to be citizen kane.

critics can appreciate camp. critics can appreciate popcorn flicks. they often do.

but it’s possible to be a bad popcorn flick. it’s possible to be bad at camp. it’s possible for any type of movie to be a good or bad example of its “type.”

that’s not to say critics as a group are unquestionable. they’re not a monolith and frequently argue.

if you need a handy parallel, it’s kind of like in animation discourse when someone says “it’s a kids movie” vs “kids deserve good movies, not bottom of the barrel crap.” you can judge anything, actually - as long as you’re willing to meet something where it’s at.

the criticisms of the fnaf movie are not borne out of wishing it was a more serious drama. we’re talking about a group who (overall) loved the shit out of the irreverent and camp horror movie “m3gan.”

it’s born out of wishing fnaf was a good movie. yknow like. maybe more fun? or scary? or both? instead of what it is, which is mostly boring characters doing lazy, generic backstories and lore exposition.

the part i’ve seen critics praise are actually the more campy elements - like matthew lillard throwing himself into his role, despite how underwhelming it is. i’ve seen critics want MORE animatronics, colors and camp, not less!

to paraphrase one critic: for a movie with an enormous robot chicken armed with a cupcake, it’s an oddly serious, even dour movie. it’s the human drama that pads the film. the animatronics are pretty great, but unfortunately, they are a distant second in focus compared to the human actors.

believe it or not, many critics actually wanted the horror animatronics movie to be about the animatronics. instead we get josh hutcherson looking vaguely tired and annoyed in every scene. as if that’s what we signed up for. is that what YOU wanted, fnaf fan?

social media try reading what the critics are actually saying before bashing the critics challenge: impossible difficulty.

SOUP RECIPE by me :)

1 generous serving, easily doubled/modified

1 carrot

1 baking potato

2 cloves of garlic, crushed

45g red lentils

1tsp veg stock

350ml boiling water

ground cumin, paprika, ground coriander, and black pepper to taste

1. peel & wash the carrot & potato. cut them into little cubes

2. heat up some oil in a large saucepan & add the cubes. stir occasionally on a medium heat so they don’t burn

3. crush & chop the garlic, then add to the pot. season to taste

4. cook until the veg has softened/browned off

5. wash the lentils & add to the pot

6. mix together the stock & boiling water, then add to the pot

7. bring to a boil, then let simmer until the water has reduced & everything is cooked through

8. serve and enjoy! i had mine with some toasted seeded bread with butter :)

Celebration of Twilight update

Planning to finish COT sooner or later. I've changed my mind about playing LGTS so will likely get that game as well. Not sure of whether I should change the Strange Boy's name or not since he got a canon title (Ozzy).

In the process of penning Lisette's next chapter, Death Drive. Here's a short preview:

At the very end of the table, where Goldia had once been bound with rope, surrounded by guests permanently invited, a lone figure sat hunched. Cautiously, Enjel moved closer. Lisette's double was not a captive, but remained in place, violet eyes glittering in the low light, face unsmiling and haggard. She didn't move, even as Enjel stopped a safe distance away, and cleared her throat. Bread crumbs decorated a soup dish surrounded by crumpled napkins.

"Hello," said Enjel, for lack of a better approach to friendly topics. "Can you hear me?"

The golem took ages to nod, but at least it was reciprocation. Didn't turn, or even flinch at the sight of another person, staring blankly forward.

"Pardon my interruption. I… wish to speak with your creator. But it doesn't look like Lisette is here. Could you, ah, provide directions, please?"

Chapped lips moved, cracking like worked, dry clay. She was saying something. Enjel leaned in, strained to listen.

"What?"

"She's right behind you."

Heart hammering in her chest, Enjel jerked around like she'd seen the devil, and was still trying to process it when a boot slammed down with the force of a thunderclap, echoing across cobblestone. Even Lisette's movements seemed to be amplified, stiff and haughty, as she approached from behind a pillar like a corpse shambling out of a dank crypt.

She certainly knew how to make a memorable entrance.
