Honestly, I would love to see headcanon/ AU discussion of Kon becoming John Henry's protege either super-heroics or becoming a mechanic/ engineer when he first came out of test tube and crawled sewage pipes.

Something else that I saw another person say but
-> ignores the intent and immigrant-coding historically done with the superfam in favor of telling a queer story that doesn't make sense given the basis of kons actual (not TV-showified) character
like, I have Many thoughts about kon and his gender that I could go on about but as a queer trans person of color from an immigrant family I can say this would not have been a good choice to go with. even while ignoring the clear lack of understanding for kon's characterization its just so obvious she did not put in the work to see what his character even was to begin with and instead just invented her own yj show/newer comics-oc mix character with the name "Conner", who in this version would have been Constance, and called it a day.
To be clear I would love to see a prominent trans girl hero in current comics I think that would be wonderful. But. the way this would have gone down? The destruction of a character already so mischaracterized in mainstream circles, who I love so much, and the ignorace towards what the impact of this could have been? That's not good representation, that's just a narrative mess.

Magdalene Visaggio’s rejected proposal for Kon
#malt rants#kon el#superboy#dc#discourse#<-just in case and more in the tags#edit: left for like an hour and came back. have thought a bit more and my issue has shifted a bit#trans kon could have been incredible and I love the design#I also. in a sense. like the way it could have ended.#however I just have too much of an issue with the process that could have been used to get there#also the constant christian topic was not it for me given yk. Jewish superfam is literally right there.#but I digress#this reads more aggressively oppositional than I intended.#while I don't hate the idea (I could even say I love it as a gnc kon hc haver) I don't like the obvious signs that once it was over#there wouldn't be a version of this character that could be molded into something more legible so to speak#what I mean by that is she would have been great for queer comics lovers everywhere#but she wouldn't have worked in terms of the comics#not in a 'I don't want to trans pre-existing characters genders' way but more in a 'this would have been a bad faith interpretation of his#characters regardless of the trans part' way#as a yj fan I have been waiting for my kids to properly come back from DC comics hell (read: no new comics) for a while#and kon especially given his constant rewrites#and I feel like instead of fixing this problem by giving a stable new and interesting storyline#we just went back to the (highly retconned) basics of his character#and I also have some feelings about the lack of direction for her outside of her new identity#not to say you can't still write a compelling story that way#but with a character like this that distinction between the internal vs external story beats would have been really important in opinion#anyways I rambled on too much. but still I stand by my saying that at the very least this pitch would not have been the greatest#in terms of writing kon true to character#a lovely concept to roll around in my mind though

So, uhh, genuine question.
Do you recommend getting into Bleach, and if so how? Anime, Manga, a little bit of both, secret other thing? Your posts about it (and especially about AEIWAM) have definitely piqued my Interest, but I have pretty much 0 knowledge about the topic and heard very contradictory takes & reviews before, so I wanted to ask for your advice on the topic.
Cheers and have a nice day!
So a couple people have asked me this and I'm going to be as honest and fair about it as possible:
Bleach itself is mid.
...which is why the fan works KICK SO MUCH ASS.
My theory is that the ideal habitat for transformative fan work creators is mediocre series. It has to be good enough to be worth engaging with in the first place, but it's the plot holes and dropped developments and intriguing characters that don't get enough time and shoddy-to-unexplained worldbuilding that make nice little holes for fic authors and fan artists to crawl into and built a home, like sponges growing on a dilapidated subway car sunk into the Hudson river.
So yes. Bleach is mid. More under the cut:
It's also really two series: the manga and the anime. There's more anime than manga because bleach suffers from the late oughts horror known as "the filler arc" where the studio would make shit up while waiting for the author to catch up. Not ideal, but better than the current state of "cancelling a fully written five-season show after two because it wasn't making enough money for the oligarchy" but I digress.
To grade both the manga and anime on the Weeb-Ass-Shit scale:
Weeb: how familiar do you have to be with the tropes of anime/Japanese culture in general to be able to enjoy the series? This is one of the things Bleach does REALLY, REALLY WELL, in that you can go in knowing fuck-all about anime and have a good time, but the more you know, the more fun it is. My favorite thing Kubo does is that if you look up the meaning of the characters used in everyone's names, there is a TON of jokes, foreshadowing, themes etc. baked into every name. A+ work.
Ass: how much gratuitous fan service is there and how annoying is it? So. It's not the worst. But it's really, really obvious that Bleach is written and illustrated by a straight man who is hella into tiddies. As a bisexual, I can appreciate The Tiddy (and tbh, the men in Bleach have pretty great tits too), but there are a lot of humor bits about Kon being a perv/author stand-in, orihime has medically alarming knockers for a teenager and gets groped kind of a lot. There's also a predatory lesbian stereotype character in the early episodes, and some pretty awful transphobic caricature characters. The amount of horny isn't that much for a shonen, but it's pretty gross IMHO.
Shit: how well- made is this series?
Mixed. Both the manga and the anime (esp the recent Thousand Year Blood War arc) have some absolutely gorgeous art, banger character designs, and deeply entertainingly choreographed fights. It is really nice to look at.
Unfortunately, both also suffer really badly from pacing issues that are pretty much entirely the fault of the insane demands the industry puts on the artists. If you've ever read/seen a shonen manga/anime from the late aughts through early teens, you're familiar with this bullshit- fight scenes drawn out to absurd lengths, filler arcs while the animation studio waits for the author to catch up, repeated plot arcs, minimal focus on characterization, The Friendship Speech (TM) etc.
Pacing and repetitiveness are Bleach's main quality issues, but the art is pretty baller and the Japanese voice cast is pretty fucking great IMHO. (I have APD and have to consume shows by subtitles, so the sun is usually more legible for me than the dub).
If you are coming into Bleach from AEIWAM... You're likely to be a bit disappointed. I put a shitload of work into the worldbuilding because Bleach does not, I write almost exclusively slice-of-life character moments rather than big battles, and I have made some pretty fucking radical changes to some of the characters. An Elephant Is Warm And Mushy is an entirely different genre than Bleach, and that's ok, because fic usually is radically different than it's source material. But also be prepared.
TL;DR: Bleach is mid and that's ok! My fic is different than it and that is also ok! I still recommend it with the reservations of : it's prototypical of its time period and contains many of the gross tropes from that era. It is also very much a horror shonen, just to be clear. Fucked up shit happens on screen, mostly cannibalism! Which is great IMHO, but you should probably take a stroll through DoesTheDogDie.com for more specific trigger warnings before beginning.

Technically I could google it, but what’s the deal with the new 52, and flashpoint, and rebirth etc… I think you’ve mentioned before that Kon has several different origins and stuff… wild.
so technically kon has one main origin that's just been altered by a couple of retcons, and then there's just a whole entire Other Fucking Guy dc made up and also named kon-el because they hate happiness. i'll get to that in a second sdfhdkjs
SO. "new 52", "precrisis", "postcrisis", and "rebirth" all refer to different periods of dc continuity! precrisis is the oldest and refers to comics written before crisis on infinite earths (1985). when anyone refers to "the crisis" you can generally assume they mean coie, as it's the Most Significant one. coie's meta purpose was to consolidate all of the timelines and not-really-in-continuity stories into a more cohesive overall dc universe.
thus we ended in the postcrisis universe, also known as new earth (after all the fuckery ended and some timelines kinda reset etc etc). a lot of titles like superman, wonder woman, etc., got relaunched in 1987 after coie ended. this is frankly, in my and also many other people's opinions, dc's best era (1987 - 2011); this is where we got storylines like the death and return of superman, saw characters like the cast of young justice '98 introduced, and followed a lot of different characters as they grew and developed, such as tim drake moving from 200+ issues of robin towards a new mantle (red robin) towards the end of the era.
unfortunately, for some reason, this guy working at dc named dan didio who was just like absolute god at coming up with terrible ideas, was like. hey so the timeline's getting cluttered and complicated again. i know what we need to do. another entire fucking universe reset! and this time we'll just absolutely bungle it. i'm talking edgier characterizations. throwing out established character relationships and dynamics. edgier everything actually. this will be fucking awesome.
spoiler alert it was not fucking awesome. this was the new 52 and it was massively unpopular. it was kicked off by an event called flashpoint (this is why sometimes you will see people referring to pre-n52 as pre-flashpoint). sales were pretty Not Stellar. it was a fucking mess with absolutely no preplanning or anything. for more on what a shitshow n52 was, here's an article.
and so new 52 kon specifically? yeah. not a clone of superman. a clone of some other guy (specifically, an alternate universe son of superman and lois lane named jon lane kent). this is where the "kon means abomination" thing came from (the author is scott lobdell and i throw tomatoes at him in my mind on the daily, for this and many many other crimes). it does not apply to main continuity kon because it got retconned out of existence and also literally did not happen to him because n52 kon is an Entirely Different Fucking Guy.
so all of five years after n52 happened, dc was like. okay everyone hates this and wants the postcrisis continuity back. uhhhh... okay! and so in 2016 they launched rebirth, also known as prime earth, in a story that more or less just undid flashpoint except not exactly. this restored a lot of the general broad strokes of postcrisis continuity (except where it didn't, and boy did a lot of things fall through those cracks, such as... the entire kon-el. he was not in continuity at all until young justice (2019). he just simply didn't exist anymore until this guy bendis was like well wait a minute we should bring that guy back! and proceeded to do it in the stupidest way possible... but i digress.)
thus kon really only has one origin: reign of the supermen. there have been some retcons that change the details of that origin (due to the byrne era "last son of krypton" mandate, the relaxation of that mandate, and then geoff johns being fucking stupid, in that order), but overall his origin has not changed. it's just that there is also some other guy out there named kon-el (who is.. currently not in continuity? i think? i don't really know. i haven't read any n52 superboy/titans stuff bc i was like well that's not my kon so i don't care slkdjf but i'll probably get there one day or another...)

Samantha Reads Comics: Digressions on David #65
Tumblr media
this would be a pretty rockin' cover if it didn't have that poor attempt at humor lol
Tumblr media
Red can't catch a break.
Tumblr media
having some, uh, trouble, figuring out how I feel about Secret as a character. she's kinda just Rough Chuckles incarnate, in a way that IDK if the overall tone of this series is prepared to handle.
Tumblr media
I guess we're doing a Pageant Moms bit here? IDK what stance PAD is trying to take here other than "ha, like that trope in media, you know? I'm relevant!"
Tumblr media
Dick WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS
Tumblr media
I really love this Kon+Bart moment. These bits are what the series does well, so far.
Tumblr media
Tim is so extra, I love it
Tumblr media
autism
Tumblr media
what the FUCK is that team name
Tumblr media
fuck you, lady!
Tumblr media
starting to lock on a little more to what PAD is trying to do with this series--like Bob Haney with the original Titans, he's interested in young superheroes as a vessel to deal with intergenerational social dynamics, yeah?
Tumblr media
kind of annoyed with how often Kali (one of the most compelling figures of Hindu mythology) gets cast as "oooh spooky death cult" stuff
Tumblr media
fucking amazing.
Tumblr media
feeling slightly attacked here
Tumblr media
he's in so much despair that his words are, I guess, sinking?
Tumblr media
Cissie King-Jones detransitioner reveal????
Tumblr media
ah cripes this got me. real stomach-punch of a plot turn, honestly. effective stuff.

Tear to Shreds: Kenji Kon
Okay so since it’s on my mind, Jurassic Park: Camp Cretaceous, I’m making it everyone’s problem.
Aight so Sammy, Darius, Yasmin, and Ben are the best characters. Fuck Kenji and Brooklyn. Brooklyn gets an excuse because she’s useful on occasion (If we ignore the sequel series but I digress). Kenji? Hell nah. But Kenji is deadass the worst character in the entire show. I want to box this man, I want him to shut the fuck up.
Okay rant part over. Logic now. Kengi comes from a very privileged background, rich (crime) dad with no mom. So daddy issues. I… Personally I’m over characters having daddy issues with how frequent it is but Darius sorta has them (Dad dies directly before the show but he moves forward), so I can let it slide. But Kenji is just the standard privilege lazy rich kid that learns humility, stops being a complete asshole, touch grass, and get actual friends.
However, over the course of the show… He only develops one of those. Can you guess which one it is that’s desperately needed in a survival situation?
If you guessed touch literal grass, you are correct and obtuse. If you guess developed friends, you are correct and no obtuse. Good job superstar- Anyway, through trauma-bonding and stuck on the island for months, they all become BFFs. Yet that doesn’t change him from being an asshole that doesn’t humble himself or touch grass.
He’s meant to be close Darius and be an deuteragonist with Brooklyn but… it just doesn’t work with his character. Fine, your father is a super blackmarket business boss, even having assets on said island or the nearby one. Fine, he left his son to die on that island. Fine, Kenji was probably raised by maids, left with no ambition except for attention starved and approval of his father. Fine. But this isn’t anything new or creative. This is old and literally every scenario of rich kid stereotype getting a reality check.
You know who was this type of character but better? Amity Blight. And yet she’s cute and goofy and loving and develop her own ambitions (winning the tournament like her father). Kenji isn’t and doesn’t. Shit, she doesn’t try to take control or pretend to be a leader when she’s out of her league. Kenji does.
He infuriates me whenever he’s on screen. Yeah, he chills out with the arrogance to an extent as time goes on, but he constantly tries to one up Darius or is portrayed better than him without doing the work. He does rightfully get mad when its either a laptop or his friend (crush), but said laptop contained important info on dinos that should be kept out of the mercenaries grasp. He gets mad at Darius, specifically saying “friends don’t trade friends for things”, as if Darius needed to learn that lesson and everyone else was on board with it. He does this the most with Darius but he acted as if he knew better with Yas when she had her injured foot which keeps her from running and walking. This would be a good way to deepen her character and give us more of her background- nope Kenji is assigned to her to remove rubble to rebuild camp. Oh, he doesn’t do what was asked of him, and forces Yas to rest. Yes, Yas needs to rest but she would feel a lot better if you did your portion of the work or something. But no, you’re lazy and “right” in the scenario.
It doesn’t help that the group is more pro-dino that everyone else and you just go along with it yet act pro-dino. It makes sense why Darius, Sammy, and Ben are super pro dino and actively help them, Yas and Brooklyn just so happen to help out of a indirect reason, while Kenji hangs in the back. Darius loves dinos to begin with and his dad love them to. Sammy is a sweet girl and apart of a family farm with animals. Ben has a pet dino so best way to keep Bumpy safe. Yas? She likes Sammy so cool, but also she’s the one throughout the show that has the least amount of scenes helping dinos I believe, I get it. She’s only there because of a sponsorship for her track career. Brooklyn loves conspiracy theories and discovering the truth, dinos are simply the surface of it and find them cool so will help out. Kenji…. Kenji just goes along with it. Not a single interest and only tie is crime father. You can’t be for dinos while not actually for them. I can excuse Bumpy for being the group pet but outside of that, nothing.
The only progress besides chilling out and the plot with his father coming to the island is Brooklyn becoming his girlfriend. Yet that almost withers away expeditiously because his father is trying to separate him from his friends. Cool manipulation tactic bro but it undermines the relationship building they just got finished with. It’s fine if the relationship doesn’t work in the future, like the sequel series (Kenji tried tho I’ll give him that), but it literally just started at that point. Muhahaha I will sabotage their date so he can hang with me and my investors. Smh. This is why I stick with Sammy & Yas together, only lesbians can get it right.
Oh, and I hate his design, from clothes to body. His shoulders are too broad and look un-proportional to his body. He doesn’t do sports or anything, there’s no reason for them to look pronounced. I think they were trying to go for a jock look yet it wasn’t fitting at all. His clothes are generic for a rich kid and the only “personal touch” are two white lines at where the sleeves start which brings even more attention to how he’s built wrong. Ew.
The more I write, the more I think Kenji was their favorite character that had to have plot relevance about crime dad. It continues in the sequel series as Brooklyn before being presumed dead ended up linking money from his dad to get dino info. They go to the dad to figure out what’s going on, one last manipulation attempt then “oh I cared about you, I’ll sacrifice for you” moment. They get a lead and move on. Kenji then proceeds to get on Darius’ case about how “if you loved her so much why we’re you there”, like what the fuck??? Using that against him when you know he still isn’t over it. Darius sent hundreds of voicemails to her phone after her death as a way to be in denial and connect with her. And you say that shit afterwards, guilt tripping him further???? I, I want him to get fed to those raptors chasing them. Fucking hell.
Sorry if this is incoherent but I need to grip my teeth into paper and tear that shit up into shreds. It gives me the satisfaction that this will be the closest I get to do in real life. 😌 There’s another season to go so please let him get his ass beat and actual humility. 👏🏼

Wow that as fast lol love the answers!
1: is there any modern comics that is canon in your universe? Like the recent action comics with the blue earth moment? Can see Chris having a problem with them for not being from earth.
2: would chris be the last Zod alive in your universe? Or would he be able to extend the bloodline with thara? Orrrr for drama/sadness, he ends up sacrificing himself to save his “real” family the Els.
3: don’t know if I ask this earlier, (except the duo didn’t exist question) what would it take to retire the duo?
4: maybe a nsfw question, skip it if it is, was there a plan to ship them together like a couple? Like how some ppl ship the super-sons together?
5: in their phones, what’s their family/friends contact names? Like just regular mom or mama Lois 👩🏻 for Chris
6: when taking a picture/selfie what silly face would they do?
1) Well as of recently because of the positive buzz about Beast World I got from a mutual or two, I might incorporate that with Chris and Jake no doubt being caught up trying to prevent Garro spores from entering into people in Bludhaven let alone themselves. Mar’i and Jake I can definitely see being wowed when Kory freed their Dad via luring the spore out but then crushing it with her teeth, preventing her from transforming while Dick was cured. I can definitely see Chris and Jake being there for their friend Jasper as not only is there the obvious with his Dad but also he’ll need their aid in preventing his mother Rae from being possessed by her dark self.
I haven’t been able to check out what’s going on in Action Comics so far (mainly I’ll pick it back up once Jon is restored to his proper age but I digress) but from what I can look up, the Blue Earth Movement are most definitely gonna be adapted as regular adversies for both Chris’ family and Jake’s too given their whole Human Supremacy shtick. Especially since in my own canon, Bludhaven has a sizable population of Tamaranean immigrants
2) In the future of this world…I can see Chris and Thara finally being wedded together and having a child or two together so neither Dru nor Chris would be the last of the House of Zod biologically speaking.
Though Chris might be identify as a Zod by birthright, he still proudly accepts his adoption into the House of El by Clark and Lois
3) I can only see them permanently retire once in their older ages when maybe their powers are beginning to dampen, they leave behind successors they trained for the ways of super hero work if they feel like stepping up, and the have fulfilling lives with their respective true loves
As for temporary retirements like you’d see if they’re kids and the like, likely if an internally traumatic and painful event in their lives happens with their inability to stop it or even moreso if it’s their fault somehow. Of course these retirements only last so long before the call of duty comes for them in form or another and don their costumes once again.
4) Oh No NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
No
I have seen how naughty (and in my complete honesty Perverted) fan artists and writers take that sort of ship and it makes me queasy, especially if they don’t even have the tact or foresight to age up the characters involved.
So yeah, no way I’m ever shipping Chris and Jake romantically. At the very most platonically as very close best friends but that’s the line I’m gonna have to draw
I don’t wanna invite those certain people to my little silly stupid fanon thingy, thank you very much.
Now…NOW if someone does ship them romantically in an age appropriate, family friendly, childhood crush with completely averting any to all intensely naughty and lewd acts, then I can respect them. Just not it for me personally
5) Chris;
Mom Lois
Dad Clark
Big Bro Kon

Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach) Headcanons
I legit got through most of Fairy Tail because Natsu and Gray are hot (I'm embellishing a ton, but the Tartaros arc FED me), and Ichigo is one of the hottest anime characters out there, so you do the math.
In my Natsu headcanons, I mentioned that there are characters that get turned on from tickling "indirectly". Our bad boy Ichigo happens to be one of those. But before that:
Ichigo is neither a lee nor a ler. He despises being tickled - his father being the main culprit, even when Ichigo was a teenager, and you know Rukia and Kon haven't always kept her hands to themselves - and has no desire to tickle others, except his sisters when they were little (and possibly Hitsugaya on one occasion), and the fact that he would hate for the tables to be turned on him means any ler impulse in him would be DOA. It would be fun to imagine Orihime taking liberties after the end of the manga tho. Oh wow, if she used her tiny fairies... that's hot. No way she doesn't use her powers in the bedroom.
Also, someone told me that Ichigo gives off massive foot master vibes, and I cannot unsee it. Out of all the anime characters I can think of, he's definitely the most likely to have an OnlyFans lol Anything to help the family practice, right? He's not even gay, he'd just enjoy the power trip. I say "gay" because he doesn't seem like he'd be into dominating women. He 100% is into worship though, mostly receiving.
Tumblr media
That tracks, right? For him to get so worked up about being tickled, he has to be on the sensitive side.
No Reaction (4): His butt isn't ticklish. Moving on.
Giggling (6-7): A whole buncha spots are "just ticklish enough" to be annoying. Ichigo's feet aren't his most ticklish spot, but they are his least favorite. They're tools to assert his authority, they shouldn't be used to make him - gasp - laugh! And worse, prolonged lickles or tickling on his toes with objects like paintbrushes, toothbrushes, flossers, and the like will turn him on. How embarrassing! Also, his tip is kind of ticklish. Not a lot, but enough to fluster him when it comes up.
Laughing (7.5-8.5): His hips are the worst out of these spots, but he hates that even his sides will make him jump. His pits are very sensitive and a spot that gets/got targeted more often than he'd like. As for his toes... he'd legit prefer his ribs being targeted, which could make for a very fun game (not for him) where he gets tickled on his ribs until he can't take anymore and has to consent to his feet being targeted, but when he gets too flustered, he asks to switch again, and so on and so forth. This gives me an idea for a story about Rukia and Kon deciding that he's too bossy... I digress.
Howling (9-10): He only has one panic spot on his body, and that's his ribs. Just look at them. Tickle tickle, tough guy. Those muscles and spirit powers won't avail you now.

Metalocalypse #38: “Black Fire Upon Us” (a.k.a. “Dethrelease”) | September 8, 2008 - 12:00AM | S02E18
A double episode, and a season finale! This one is about Dethklok finally releasing their record and playing a concert in the clouds in a floating polyhedron. The various factions of Dethklok’s antagonists show up to the after-party in an attempt to compromise Dethklok once and for all.
The FREAKING EPIC METER is off the FREAKING CHARTS here PEOPLE. This one feels great, in all honesty. Lotsa good funny scenes and dramatic brutality. On the funny side (hey, I should rename the blog to this maybe?? Adult Swim: on the funny side. I like it!) is Toki's descent into alcoholism and the band’s dysfunctional way of dealing with it, lengthy digressions where the band plans to master the art of sucking their own dicks, Murderface’s stint at taking fire safety seriously (Do you think Murderface gets the lamest subplots because he’s the funniest character? SOUND OFF in the youtube comments below), and a very funny scene where the members of Dethklok get distracted by doing funny voices they can do.
The concert scene is genuinely impressive. I think that the animation on this show qualifies as “crappy”, but it manages to be good enough to be immersive, and a lot of it is fucking cool. The launch of the polyhedron (that transforms into a floating stage) has a lot of fetishistic Heavy-Metal Magazine style drawings, and I found myself really appreciating the design of the show.
This one has a lot of callbacks to previous episodes, but I maintain that almost none of it matters. The world of the show feels so rich in setting up the idea that Dethklok is the biggest entity in the world, and that naturally lends itself to conflict and having enemies. The concept is, at its heart, absurd, but the show sorta acts like it doesn’t know that. I think viewers who tune in on a story-arc episode of Metalocaylpse might feel like they’re missing something, but almost none of the humor relies on knowing deep lore.
I thought the final blow-out of the episode was particularly cool and well-done, and it was affecting in the way a cool action sequence with weighty consequences should be. But as I watched I sorta had a self-conscious debate in my head over the nature of my enjoyment for the show. The ultimate joke of Dethklok being huge shitheads who don’t deserve their status (who would?) weighed on my mind while the serious, epic music played while the closing credits rolled. It’s part of the humor for sure, but sometimes the show is good at making you forget that it is. There’s nothing truly wrong about thinking “these are my guys and I want them to win on my show”, but there must be fans out there who for them that’s their predominant feeling they feel towards these characters. It’s interesting to think about, is all!

I was legitimately shocked that Robot Chicken portrayed the Revenge of the Nerds rape as being a bad thing. Genuinely much more progressive than I would have given 2008-Robot Chicken credit for.
Agreed! I can imagine an alternate sketch where the punchline is the Richard King lookin' guy approaches Darth Vader to sadly report "somebody got pussy by disguising as you" and Darth being like "WHAT! NOOOOOOOOOOO" and crushing his windpipe. My George Lucas said no.

I remember getting into a near-argument w my father because I pointed out that Superman was a Moses allegory, and he was INSISTENT that it was Jesus... and like. yeah there are similarities. because Jesus was also a Moses allegory. the character was literally created by Jews for Jewish reasons it's insane that people think he HAS to REALLY be jesus
I mean I don't know that Jesus was a Moses allegory, but let's put that aside. Superman is NOT a Jesus allegory, specifically, because he is not a God. That's the problem with Snyder's "interpretation" of Superman in the first place - he forgets that Clark is just as important as Kal-El. He's a man of the people, a champion of justice and truth, a journalist - actually, can we talk for a sec about how important it is that he's a journalist? Comics love journalists, they have such a pro-journalist agenda. In superhero comics, journalists are the people who bring truth to light, who keep superheros honest, who help them stay on the right path and do good. J Jonah Jameson reminds Spiderman that he has responsibility to do good and that he needs to be held accountable if he does something wrong; Ben Urich uncovers Daredevil's identity but still helps him and is an all around good person; Lois Lane pursues the truth at all costs, helps Superman because she believes in him even before she knows his identity. Clark is a journalist because it's a good excuse to be first on the scene, to hear about things as they happen, but also because he is a representative of truth and justice and that's what journalists stand for in comic books.
Okay, sorry for the tangent, but like... The whole point is that Clark is as important as Kal-El is. He's a good person. I just yesterday reblogged this panel:
Tumblr media
"He could be anyone... and he chooses to be kind." That's the entire goddamn point. Jesus sacrifices himself and fucks off. He's there to teach (and destroy the sacrifices being sold in front of the Temple for no reason except to ruin it for everyone else, but I digress). He copies some shit from Elijah and then dies and, again, once he comes back to life he just fucks off. Superman would never, ever do that. He wouldn't sacrifice himself needlessly - how would he be able to help people? He wouldn't fuck off - why would he? He has human connections, Lois and Jonathan and Kon (sort of) and his parents and Jimmy and so many others. He cooperates with the justice league as an equal. If you're viewing him as detached from humanity, as something to be worshipped... Well, you'd be wrong. And it's exhausting to see happen in adaptation time and time again.

okay i’m not trying to start drama. but. discourse about the Steph and Cass relationship concerns me a bit.
mind you, it’s totally valid to critique certain aspects of it - like how its served to undermine either character’s individuality with the wrong writers (particularly Cass). i do want more non-ensemble stories featuring them.
but i feel like more and more i’m seeing the “solution” to these problems as people wanting Steph and Cass to not be as big a factor in each other’s lives as they are. which is like, blatantly discounting the long history of their friendship, and just how deep and meaningful it is for both of them.
Cass and Steph have an intrinsic connection via their traumatic pasts, of which they’ve strived to not let define them, and committed toward the fight against injustice. and that desire to forge their own identities does, in some way, seem to come more easily to them when they’re together. they both know how hard it is and have been shown as relentlessly supportive of each other’s journeys because of it. to say their friendship is actually reductive of their individual identities in-universe is very much just fandom discourse clouding actual canon. Cass and Steph do not feel stifled by their commitment to one another.
also, they just generally enjoy each other’s company?? and that’s okay??
one argument i can’t stand is the idea that Steph and Cass shouldn’t be THAT good of friends, that they would almost certainly get angry with each other consistently, that they wouldn’t have good communication skills (not even gonna get into how ableist that is), etc.
now. i’m all for relationship drama - and yeah, i’d be up to see some more of it in regards to Steph and Cass. but claiming they simply cannot be allowed to have such an ease and comfort with one another as is portrayed in the interest of said drama is SO weird.
if i were to try to understand where it comes from - i do know there’s some level of backlash to the modern push for “women uplifting women”, out of concern that it’s washing away a lot of the nuance female friendships have.
as to how much that applies to Steph and Cass...i don’t know. even in Batgirls (which is just way lighter in tone overall) Steph and Cass aren’t this perfectly well oiled machine. just the other issue we saw Steph reject Cass’s words of encouragement because she’s convinced everyone secretly doubts her abilities. WFA just had this great little two-parter about how Cass hates how conscious she is of everyone’s emotions and how that hyper-awareness can cause problems with Steph. but i digress-
even if it IS the case, to feel it’s indicative of “women uplifting women” being a flawed portrayal of female friendships (or at least Steph and Cass’s) in the first place is so reductive. it feels like just another reflection of the patriarchal idea that the dynamics between girls are somehow inherently more toxic and catty than those of males.
i can’t tell you how many times i’ve had a man tell me guys are just “more chill” with each other than girls are.
or how much media i’ve seen surrounding female characters that covet being “one of the guys” on account of how much more comfortable they are with their unproblematic, non-gossipy guy friends (usually in romance plots actually, as if it couldn’t be more obvious this is just male writers trying to project some level of desirability upon themselves. which is just a beautiful self-own, because - no, male-female friendships can be way more uncomfortable, especially when your male friends are constantly trying to categorize you as a potential fucking love interest).
and, yeah, how much do you see this conversation applied to Tim and Kon? Or Jason and Roy?
of course, i don’t want to discount the fact that patriarchal norms have led to a culture where female friendships can be that way. but that’s just it - it’s down to patriarchal norms. and i know for a fact that the strength of female friendships can shed those norms. and i almost certainly abide by the fact that Steph and Cass would have no problem doing that.
and either way, female friendships in general ARE shedding those norms from an earlier age. i can attest to the environment of my HS experience being much less “mean girls” and much more “turning red” (which didn’t take place in HS but w/e you get my point) (and not to say that mean girls was ever meant to be wholly accurate mind you lmao).
soooo yeah. we can ask for more individual stories between them without actively rewriting how much the two care and connect with one another. Steph and Cass are still each other’s best friends.
but that’s just my take. i guess this kinda became a rant lmao.
also i’m not gonna get started on how many ppl are so quick to discount the queer reading of Steph & Cass bc that’s genuinely annoying

I’m gonna be honest I didn’t realize the new 52 messed with Kon that much till I read your post and now I can’t get over the potential. I’m a Tim/Kon girly at heart so I would devour anything you write exploring the 52 vs typical Kon. Also Time being in a clone sandwich is 👌.
the new-52 messed Kon up SO bad it's ridiculous. like, to the point i would personally argue he's a completely unrelated character to pre-Flashpoint/Rebirth Kon. his personality, his suit, his origin, all different. the only real similarities are the name and powerset. and even New-52!Kon's powers are slightly different from pre-Flashpoint!Kon. New-52!Kon is a clone of a future version of Jon Lane Kent, cloned by N.O.W.H.E.R.E. to provide genetic material to Jon Lane Kent, whose body was not handling being half human/half Kryptonian well, it was a whole thing. New-52!Kon is also where we get the infamous "Kon-El means 'abomination of the house of El' and Kara basically named him a slur in Kryptonian culture" tidbit, because that is the only time that's canon. (originally Kon-El was a name gifted by Clark to accept Kon as his family way back in the 90s) he also never went by Conner Kent. New-52!Kon just straight up didn't have any real human identity or connections, outside of being very close to Tim and some Titans.
the very TLDR of Kon's history is: during post-Crisis/pre-Flashpoint, a clone called Superboy is created by CADMUS. at first, he's considered to be a clone of a dude named Paul Westfield and is not Kryptonian whatsoever, he was simply made to look like Superman and only has Tactile Telekinesis as a power. then, it was made canon that actually he was a clone of Lex Luthor and Clark Kent, but Lex hid this fact and slowly, Kon developed more Kryptonian powers. he's given the name Kon-El by Clark, and is taken in by the Kents, getting the name Conner Kent. then Flashpoint happens, we get the New-52, and we're given the above version of Kon-El, who is a clone of Jon Lane Kent, created by N.O.W.H.E.R.E. who has mostly very strong telekinesis powers and some Kryptonian powers. he's with the Titans for a bit, then at the end of the New-52, he kills some aliens and feels bad about it so he decides to fuck off and is never seen again, it's presumed he's dead but never confirmed. then Rebirth happens and DC makes Jon Kent the current Superboy, we get Supersons and all that, and it's assumed that no version of Kon-El exists. just at all. he's not around whatsoever, Jon is our only Superboy. *but* in 2019, we get a new Young Justice run and the pre-Flashpoint Kon-El is back, and we're given the explanation of: Kon got accidentally teleported to this alternate realm called Gemworld and then Flashpoint happened, and since that was a Crisis Event that changed the timeline, the poor lad got *erased* from the timeline, causing most people to *not fucking remember him* and for him to remember a timeline that no longer exists. some of the Young Justice team vaguely remember him, Ma and Pa Kent remember him, but notably, Clark *does not remember him*. it's not an issue of "Clark ignored Kon in favor of Jon" it's an issue of "Kon was erased from the timeline and didn't exist for years bc he was stuck in Gemworld and Clark just doesn't remember Kon or Kon's timeline" which to me, is far more tragic but i digress. since then, Kon has been back and is present in most significant Superfamily runs, with his own recent mini-series, Superboy: Man of Tomorrow. (which was very good btw)
so basically: the New-52 fucked Kon up so bad they wrote him out of comics for years and then brought back the pre-Flashpoint version, but never *explicitly* killed the New-52 version off. so hypothetically, it's possible that there are currently two characters existing in the DC universe named Kon-El who have been Superboy. and like i said above, one of New-52!Kon's only real significant relationships was with Tim, it was the only thing the New-52 managed to get right about Superboy, his closeness to Tim. they have a *lot* of moments that read incredibly queer. and ofc, it's just outright confirmed in Dark Crisis: Young Justice that Tim had a crush on pre-Flashpoint!Kon at some point. so while comics are intent on pretending New-52!Kon doesn't exist, i am intent on putting Tim in a clone sandwich.
because i do think it's fun to play with Tim having genuine feelings and potentially a relationship with both of them. and the fucked up nature of him not fully *remembering* his relationship with pre-Flashpoint!Kon (which is a canon thing, in YJ(2019) Tim has vague memories of Kon he's struggling to piece together and understand why he cares about this guy he doesn't recognize so much) and how frustrating that is for Tim. he knows he loves Kon, but it's all foggy besides that. and so it's even *more* fucked up if Tim dated New-52!Kon before he got emo and ran off into the unknown. obviously in canon no one has told current Kon about New-52!Kon bc comics are doing the good ol' tried and true of "sweep that shit under the rug" but for fanfic, i think it's fun to ask the question of: would anyone *tell* Kon? especially Tim? who now remembers dating both versions of them? would he admit to Kon that briefly, he had another Kon? how would Tim cope with that and move on? personality wise, they could not be more different. they dress and act and look different. they're not the same person, but there's certainly a questionable factor of Tim's dating history including two Kon-Els.
the idea i've had for a while is Tim slowly starting to date pre-Flashpoint!Kon again. it feels familiar and like home. and Tim has grieved and accepted that wherever New-52!Kon is, he doesn't want to come home, he didn't love TIm enough to stay and try. so Tim takes the Kon he has, and genuinely has a happy relationship. like for once, life is good and things almost make sense for Tim. but then, of course, New-52!Kon comes back. he decides he wants to try again and he finds Tim. only to find well. he's been replaced. and technically, he's been replaced with the *original* that he didn't even know *existed*. and if being a clone is bad enough, that just makes it a hundred times worse. because imagine knowing you're actually the second Kon-El your boyfriend who you never *technically* broke up with fell in love with. that's gotta give you some kind of complex.
so i think it's fun if both Kons try to step back and let the other Kon date Tim. both of them have reasons to feel like the "replacement" or "fake" Kon, and it makes them incredibly awkward with each other. do they count as the same person? bc they definitely don't *feel* like the same person to each other, but with weird timeline stuff, who can really say. them settling on an awkward throuple that's really meant to be Tim just dating them both but somehow they end up dating each other too is so fun for me. they both feel like imposters to the Superboy name but are so deeply in love with Tim Drake, it's the one thing truly connecting them. and then of course, Tim feels bad in that somehow, he's betraying both of them for having feelings for the other. but they make it work, with a lot of awkward angst and miscommunication. i just think it'd be fun. very difficult to write to get all the weird timeline nuances down in a way that's understandable in a fanfic (bc you can't just. infodump like i did on this post) but doable. also difficult to tag, because even though i argue these are two different characters, i'm pretty sure Ao3 groups them under the same character tag. so it'd be difficult to convey it's not *really* as selfcest-y as it would imply. comics, man. DC will never acknowledge New-52!Kon again, and he's admittedly a terrible adaptation of Kon-El, but. i think he was sort of neat in his own right and i'd *love* for DC to just inexplicably bring him back and make the current Kon deal with the consequences of all that. and them make Tim kiss them both. obviously.
#necrotic answerings#timkon#how do I tag this ship i'm so serious#kontimkon#I fucking *guess*?#also just plain Kon/Kon could be neat as well#I don't view it as selfcest. but like. I understand if ppl do#also if I got some details wrong i'm so sorry#I was tipsy writing this.#new-52!Kon you were a disaster child but come back from the war I miss you.#i'd need to reread the new-52 superboy and teen titans run to write this#just to be sure I've got a solid grasp on his character#pre-flashpoint!Kon I understand just fine he's my son I've read most of his content#new-52!Kon. eeeeeh. i've read it. years ago. and I'm not even sure if I actually read it all through or just bits and pieces#I hated him when he existed be like. he fucked up Kon so bad we fucking lost Kon for a couple years#but in hindsight. he had potential.#also if you want another bizarre fun fact about the new-52#Tim was never Robin in the new-52. he went straight to being Red Robin.#also his parents are alive and in witsec. do with that what you will.#weird times.#I guess new-52!Kon could've been erased by rebirth but I don't think he was?? bc characters have recalled his existence so?#hypothetically he *should* exist???#and if he doesn't#*oh well* I do what I want#DC you may not care about the implications of your retcons and reboots but I do. I do.#I want more fandom acknowledgement of Kon getting fucking erased from the timeline and no one remembering him#yes it's fun to make Clark a bad dad#but Kon was forgotten! by almost everyone! that's also fun!#young justice (2019) isn't the *best* comic ever but it's still solid! lots of good Kon whump I tell you.#he was fucking going *through* it that run I tell you. by God.

Hi, I was reading your post about Jason punching Dick in the face when Dick revealed he fake his death was bullshit ( which it was) and it reminded me of an issue/question that has bothered me for sometime.
Why did people believe Dick was actually dead?
I’m not the most avid comic reader so maybe I missed something but it was always weird to me that everyone just accepted this especially given how Bruce was acting or should I say wasn’t acting.
This is a man when his child died another child had to come along and told him sir you are being too violent and emotional you need supervision. When his other child died he went all over the universe to bring him back to life because he knew it was possible ( which was happening at the same time), so why didn’t anyone think it was weird he wasn’t doing that for Dick. Can you imagine Dick really dying that soon after Damian it would be injustice Batman Version. You are telling me that Tim, Jason or Barbara didn’t think it was weird that Bruce didn’t also bring Dick’s corpse to the bring Damian back to life mission or mention it to themselves. Like what more likely Dick dead and Bruce is handling it well or that he fake his death to do something stupid and Dangerous after his partner/brother/ little bit my son the feelings are complicated died after he was knocked out and woke up to his corpse.
Oh man, this is like, the entire nature of my beef?
(Slight derail just to emphasize the fact real quick that Dick DID actually die, he was just revived quickly, but like, the trauma of his death was very real and its not like anyone was clued into Luthor having a resurrection backdoor built into his literal murder of Dick in the actual moment of it happening. So Dick’s death wasn’t fake, and additionally, he didn’t have anything to do with like, telling people about it, because he was literally comatose in the cave and recovering while Bruce was telling people....by the time Dick woke up in the cave, we already know that Alfred at least had already been convinced by Bruce that Dick was dead, so I have a kneejerk need to pushback against the Dick faked his death narrative by reminding people wherever possible that Dick had no agency in the spreading of that narrative.
It happened without him being involved, and the only actual contribution he ever made to it was just not revealing he was alive before Grayson #12, after Bruce like.....emotionally, mentally and physically badgered him into accepting that doing so would be directly harmful to his family and he didn’t want to be the reason more people died when like, people had just died because he ‘let’ himself be captured and interrogated by Power Woman’s Lasso of Submission, did he?
SORRY TO BE PEDANTIC, just wanted to start this off on a clarification, even though I know the aim of your ask was very much in tune with the rest of my response. A lot of people don’t read the actual comics, so like, I’m never gonna skip over an opportunity to emphasize that the shorthand people use to refer to Dick’s death and the year he was with Spyral, is like, literally just shorthand for describing it. Its not actually an accurate description of how all that went down and who had the most hand in it).
BUT ANYWAY. BACK TO THE MEAT OF THE BEEF.
Okay so like, not only was the entire family and Bruce himself giving Dick shit for his death and Spyral, like, PAINFULLY egregious because it was literal victim blaming in every possible sense of the word....
None of it made a LICK of sense with ANY of their characterizations, and they ONLY all accepted it on face value because the Plot Demanded It, and when you're like, no, as a reader I say The Plot Demanded It is not a good enough reason for me to be like well sure, that makes sense......looking at the characters ACTUAL actions at face value pretty much just makes them all look like assholes?
Like, Tim has never gracefully accepted anyone's death. Ever. This is core characterization for him. He will go to the ends of the earth for his loved ones and to bring them back, prove they're not dead, refuse to let death be the final verdict for them. He was tempted to use the Lazarus Pit to bring his parents back to life. He refused to accept Bruce was dead long before he had any proof whatsoever of that theory. He tried to clone his BFF/future-husband Kon in his fucking basement like, dude was two whole inches away from going Full Dark Side in his quest to bring back a lost loved one no matter WHAT the cost.....and then you've got Dick unmasked onscreen, killed offscreen, and Bruce then reporting to the rest of them with zero inflection 'oh Dick's dead now. Its very sad' and Tim's just like, sure. Sounds legit.
I mean?!?!
And you're SO RIGHT ABOUT THE DAMIAN THING! Bruce LITERALLY LITERALLY LITERALLY went BEYOND the ends of the Earth, like, he full on chartered a fucking space ship to fly his whole family out to APOKOLIPS to bring Damian back from the dead by going to EXTREME lengths.....WHILE everyone else thought Dick was dead....
And not a single person looked at Bruce and was like, okay, not that we're not down to do this for Damian because we miss Stabby Smurf something fierce ourselves, but.....what the fuck is UP with you dude? Why aren't you displaying ANY hint of this same kind of energy in regards to your eldest son that you said you watched die right in front of you?
Like....I don't know that we were actually ever told that Dick's coffin was empty or had a fake in it, but like....this family of detectives who refuse to accept death, defy death, COME BACK FROM THE DEAD....not a single one of them said like, okay, if I'm gonna like, ACCEPT accept that Dick is dead and gone for good, I need to at least just see him one last time? That's literally all it would have taken for someone to realize hey something's a little wonky here. Where's the dead body, Pops?
Since when has Jason ever missed an opportunity to prove Bruce is a) full of shit, b) acting like an emotionless robot and all his kids deserve better especially when they've just like....died, c) just factually incorrect and wrong and jumped to a conclusion before it was conclusively proved, d) lying like a liar or e) all of the above?
Nobody even ASKED if Dick's body could be put in a Lazarus Pit? Yeah, Jason wouldn't necessarily recommend it himself, given what it put him through, but actually fuck that, I take that back, because I'm NOT actually of the opinion that Jason full on hates his life and actively spends every second of every day wishing he hadn't been resurrected, even if it had come with a huge buffet of additional trauma and pain.
And that's kinda what's implied when people just take it for granted that he would never be on board with any scenario involving using a Lazarus Pit to bring Dick back, because it suggests that based even just on his own experiences and feelings, he honestly believes Dick would prefer being dead and not have ANY further opportunities to be with his loved ones, his friends, help save the damn world again at some future point.....that Jason, projecting based just off himself, legit feels Dick would rather be dead than have another shot at life even WITH the downsides of Lazarus Pit usage? Nope. Sorry, I don't buy it.
Speaking of not buying it.....you know what was missing from all those soliloquies the others monologued at Dick about how they felt and were hurt and just devastated by his death, to such a point they can't seem to muster a single shred of happiness that he's NOT dead still -
(seriously, Damian was the ONLY person in ALL THE LANDS OF EMOTION-HAVING who expressed ANY kind of positive reaction to having Dick back. We were so fucking cheated of like.....ANY opportunity to have the characters show just how much they valued him by just being fucking HAPPY he was alive, no matter what else was involved....and then most of fandom compounded that by for years being like mmmm, no, Dick didn't get yelled at enough by his family for what HE put THEM through. Needs more yelling. More punching too. Bad Dick. Bad. This is the only way you'll learn not to die and get shipped off on a mission that you don't want but at least is to protect your family after being beaten into it by your dad whilst victim blaming you for dying in the first place. WHEN WILL YOU LEARN TO THINK ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE AND THEIR FEELINGS FOR A CHANGE, DICK?!?)
- But like, BUT I DIGRESS aside....you know what was missing from all those monologues about how hard DICK'S death and ensuing year of basically exile from his loved ones was for EVERYONE BUT HIM?
We never got a single line of explanation as to what everyone else officially thinks even happened to him in the first place?
Like, did Bruce straight up just say oh bad news kids, your brother umm. Expired. Spontaneously. There's no one to blame, he just keeled over, its all very sad.
Is that how that went down?
You're telling me that the explanation of Dick's death didn't come with a single pointed finger at someone for this family of blame-happy vigilantes to like, BLAME for the loss of this brother they all mourned oh so much, they just couldn't help but blame him for all the hurt it caused them?
The family that in every other fic is like OBSESSED with avenging and being avenged and all things vengeful and even tangentially vengeance-y....like didn't ask for a single detail on whomst the fuck deprived us of our brother-having?
Where were the attempts on Luthor's life by Jason (who I mean, yeah I know it was in a previous continuity, but erasing that timeline doesn't erase my awareness of the time Dick killed Jason's murderer so like.....mmm, just saying, woulda been nice)....where was the rage directed at the Crime Syndicate and references to how seriously and personally the Batfam took making sure that they were PUNISHED for all this and would never be free to wreak havoc on their world or their family again? What did they tell Damian when he came back to life, and how are you going to tell me that this fraternal little ball of fury didn't aim himself like a cannonball at whomever the fuck had DARED take HIS Batman from him when Damian wasn't around to have his back?
Not only does everyone else's desire to be avenged start falling really flat the second you factor in hey maybe Dick feels "mmm what about MY avenging" sometimes, and why doesn't anyone ever care about doing that for him.....but also, y'know what REALLY sucks about the ONLY person we actually SEE being blamed for Dick's death and ensuing absence being like....Dick himself?
Not only were his family all super keen on making all of this HIS fault and HIM the bad guy because of how it made them all feeeeeeel (and meanwhile fuck his feelings, am I right Batfam hfaklshfklahfkla).....
They somehow found a way to justify prioritizing this OVER ever even getting around to blaming some villain for his death in the FIRST place, in the entire year or so they thought he was still dead!
Like, you couldn't come up with a single target in all that time, but Dick's back two seconds, and you don't even give him a chance to EXPLAIN before you're punching him, shutting him down with 'I expected better from you' and turning away with 'I don't want to hear it, why am I surprised Dick Grayson disappointed me again'?
afshklfhalfhalfhla
Make it make sense!
And like, it won't, cuz it doesn't, and it never will, and like I said at the top, the ONLY reason it all played out this way is because DC doesn't give a fuck about character development and deemed it necessary to go down this way for the sake of the plot (which was totes worth it, I mean, glad we sacrificed characters for this A+ plot which was clearly the greatest plot of all time and definitely justified every story choice made or not made around it loooool).
BUT.
BUT BUT BUT.
The problem isn't JUST that DC is stupid, even though that is an eternal mood and quite the problem.
Its that the SECOND large parts of fandom decided to play along with DC and just accept the story at face value, only add to it and play into it exactly as it happened in canon with no significant deviations, and like, heaping on the LITERAL abuse from Dick's siblings while ignoring the LITERAL abuse from his father....
THAT....is when all of this becomes relevant.
Because the second people decided TO engage with the reasoning DC gave for what Bruce did and how and what Dick did and how and just not mess with any of that and have it all play out exactly like that...
The second people are like, okay we're FINE with not just dismissing this story as OOC writing that doesn't make any sense, and actually VALIDATING it to various degrees by engaging with it as is....
That's when 'OOC writing' stops being an excuse or explanation for alllll of the above gaps in character logic and actions.
Because its like, when you had abundant chance to REJECT this story and say nope, this was bullshit from start to finish and I'm not here for it, when you were just as capable of transforming literally ANY aspect of this story you didn't like into something that made more sense to you....
And you chose not to.
That's.....accepting it as valid writing. You were like, okay, I'm game to just treat this as a thing that happened, just like they said that happened.
For the chance to give Dick shit for it, see. For the angst, see.
And that's when I'm like okay cool, so when engaging with this story as is and accepting it on face value and just delving into the characters as they were SHOWN interacting with and around these events......for the angst or whatever....
You guys just all decided en masse to just hop, skip and jump over allllllllll the opportunities for angst inherent in examining even ANY SINGLE ONE of the above lapses in judgment or hypocrisy on the parts of the characters (who don't get to be excused by OOC writing if you're not going to call the story an example of OOC writing, whoops).
And its just like, uh, what's up with that?

Thoughts on the first new Bleach episode!
I loved the night cityscape in the episode, and the ending theme. I can’t believe they changed Ichigo’s bed spread to Uruhara hat stripes instead of his classic Quincy cross, I mean it’s the Quincy arc!! What better time for Kubo to pretend it was intentional all along? I digress.
Liked the red lighting during and after Ichigo’s fight, good to see dramatic sunsets are still part of Bleach combat. Liked the lack of Kon 👍 the massive spherical pool of blood pooling out of Ryunosuke was very nostalgic of early bleach characters having a shit ton of blood and bleeding everywhere.
Interesting seeing the Karakura Kids just demolish buildings like they have a miraculous ladybug trick up their sleeve to fix it up afterwards (whoops they don’t) (just Orihime running around healing bystanders, Chad running around patching up buildings bc he can, Ichigo and Uryuu off trying not to cause any more destruction yet still probably managing it somehow)
The New Quincy who came along is now dubbed David Pumpkins bc when he arrived he gave his name and said “any questions?” Also it’s season-appropriate! And I can’t remember his actual name.
Also Important! Uryuu’s Quincy Heelys 👌

ALSO
On the topic of cw shows now that it’s a good ways into the show I want to give my now opinion of Superman and Lois because I gave my opinion on the first episode and obviously a lot has changed so
Spoilers
Cw: Superman and Lois
I know I said I didn’t like Sarah. I changed my mind. I think she is adorable. I think she deserves the world. I think her character is well written and the actress is really talented so, I’m sorry I ever doubted you darling.
I love Tyler as Superman. I think he kills it. I love how happy and nerdy he is. I mean when his dad comes out it comes out hard. I mean (I watch this show with my family cause my dads a nerd as well and my just likes that I’m out of my room) when he did that little snap and point thing at the football game all three of us were like ‘yup that a dad’. He’s just so awkward as Clark it’s great. Also that stand down scene, with the solider and his glowing eyes, yes just yes. Now I’m not huge on Superman but the fact that they don’t sacrifice him being a happy and lovable and kind hero, that they keep him in character while also showing him in doubt and showing him angry and showing the hard parts is something I really love about this series.
Lois. I love Lois lane. I love that she was created as a love interest and through the years has become her own character. I love that she didn’t have to get powers, she didn’t to be a fighter or put on a mask to be seen as equal to Superman. I love that for years they have been married but it’s still always Lois Lane. I think this show really brings this out. I like that she makes mistakes, and she gets angry and loud and harsh, but she’s still seen as rational. I like that they let her be emotional it’s written as ‘this is a normal human response to this situation’ y’know. Idk that just seems rare for female characters. Also again the actress is amazing. And she’s an amazing mom (she has her moments) and her relationship with Jon is so cute
Speaking of Jon. I honest to god really love what they did with his character. I like how out of place he feels and how that comes out in anger. I love how they make him display emotion. I know that sounds weird but I don’t know how to describe it. I just think it’s real. Moving from a big city to a small town is really hard, if you just really aren’t made for small towns. Take from some one who lived and thrived in a big city then moved to a tiny town in Georgia. It’s hard. And they display that emotion and conflict really well. The actor is great. Obviously. The casting for this show was honestly really well done. I am kinda hoping however, that he does get powers. I want them to manifest in a different way than Jordan’s tho. I think the way their powers form depends on personality. For example Jordan’s powers seem to form as defense mechanisms which balance out his kinda shy attitude. Jon not having any friends and feeling lonely makes me really really really want Damian to make an appearance. I stand by the fact that their personalities would by incredibly entertaining side by side
Jordan. I could have killed him when he broke Jon’s hand. Like on the spot. I still like how they are doing his character. Is he my favorite? No. But it’s a really interesting dynamic against Jon. Also I think him and Sarah are adorable. I think the whole ‘they basically just flipped lives’ trope is actually kinda interesting. Putting them in each other’s shoes. I think Jordan’s trying to find himself, and that can be really distracting so while it bothers me that he doesn’t notice Jon really not fitting in, I can get why. Also losing yourself like Jon is doing can be isolating so what they are going through is pulling them in opposite directions. But I’m interested to see how he grows.
Okay now that I’ve gone over the characters let’s talk about random things
Lana is amazing. I love her character. I love the actress. She gives major mom vibes and I adore it. I love her friendship with Lois. I am however disappointed they didn’t turn her into superwoman but I digress
I don’t like the Morgan edge is clarks brother reveal. Point blank. I like the Superman being blackmailed into being bad, tho. I know the ‘good guy being forced to be bad’ this is a cliche but it’s one I like. I’m a sucker for the whole internal conflict thing. I like seeing (in tv shows and movies especially) how they portray that conflict. I still don’t like that Morgan edge was kryptonian. Did not like that plot twist.
You know what plot twist I did like. The freaking man of steel turn of events. Do know how long after the first episodes me and my dad sat there trying to figure if he was lex or was related to him? Trying to figure how he was a Luther? Like I honest to god did not see it coming that he was going to be Steel. Not one time was I like ‘you know I bet that’s John Henry irons’. Idk maybe I’m just stupid but they had me going. Now I knew he was going to end up a good guy. Me my mom and my dad are like he can’t pull of the bad guy. He just looks too nice. And he does. I mean the moment that man smiled I knew I could trust him with my life.
Okay jon and Jordan running over John Henry irons while screaming was fantastic. My favorite scene hands down.
Sarah singing? Yes absolutely. Amazing. Bonus points for Jordan making of her for being a theater kid.
Jon calling his grandad a coward? An icon. Truly. I was waiting for some one to say it. Also the absolute lengths he will go to defend his family is amazing
The bench dedicated to Martha kent was absolutely adorable.
Anytime one of them pulled out the device and Clark showed up in a millisecond all concerned was absolutely adorable.
I just love them. And I love this show. I know CW makes it habit of having really good first seasons and even some times second seasons then it all goes down hill quick, but I’m really really hoping that this shows stays like this.
OKAY
Things I want to happen later in the show then I’m going to shut up because I did not want this post to be this freaking long.
I want Bruce to buy out the daily planet because edge obviously will lose it.
Because of other shows we know that Clark and Bruce already know each other and are friends so, you know family cook out with the Wayne’s/Kent’s please
Like I said I really want Damian to be a regular in the show for Jons sake. He deserves a best friend who will kill for him.
Kon-el. I need Kon. Not only is it because he’s my favorite character but his personality is so different that I think it would be hilarious
I think it would also be an extremely interesting thing to have happen. To have Conner be introduced while Clark already has kids because that hasn’t happened
Lana to become superwoman. Thank you
That’s really it for now.

M’gann was like “gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss” what she did to Conner!!!!!??? HOW was that approved and moved past
bsvdiqbdiwjdishdudv this ended me, tbh...I think yj cartoon Conner is actually pretty well developed so it makes me sadder. I know HES not like Kon but he’s a good character in his own right.
Yeah I mean, for Artemis and Wally, they never clicked for me. I would have rathered they hadn’t been together and left a lot of people been...left out of couples. I’m sorta pissed that these adaptions always pair Wally up with someone random instead of Linda, like Babs showed up as a cameo before being batgirl, is it so odd to imagine in one of the scenes in central city with Wally at school Linda and Hartley show up, I mean the show loves shoving in unneeeded cameos so like linda as a very determined and way too serious head of the school paper and her and Wally can be tentive acquaintances, but Wally thinks she is pretty or something. AND HARTLEY AND WALLY BEING FRIENDS as kids, he’s a rich kid with a grudge and Wally’s a regular kid with a tough family life, they bonded over shit parents and Wally helps him keep out of extreme trouble ya know. Hell, throw in a cameo from Jesse Quick as the simarly workaholic-like class president whom Wally knows from getting dentions for running in the halls from. I’m not saying they all had to go to school together or anything but like why have weird cameos when you can have ones that make sense.
Also at this point Zee and Artemis should date, and if Wally comes back...I don’t see them getting back together being the most realistic option.
Yeah yj!birdflash is one giant meme; but like affectionately. Like just as one of the rare friendships in the show that actually got time to be a friendship (Kaldur, Wally, ans Dick being allowed to be friends before romance became the main feature I miss you kings) it’s obvious why so many people cling to it I think?
At this point I’ve watched so many crack YJ videos on Youtube I can’t think of the show without vines playing in my head
Conner was for sure diff than Kon but he was a sweet boy and M’gann my god was she not a sweet girl. Send her to jail or something yeesh
Yeah, I don’t mind Wally with Hartley, Dick, or Linda. I like them all equally. But I disliked him with Artemis.
Wally coming back you know they’ll just shove him with Artemis even tho she totally started hooking up with Will which just ugh the whole Roy clone thing. I couldn’t stand it with Spider-Man in the 90s and I don’t like it any better now
(Actually, Spider-Man’s clone Kaine is one of my favorite marvel characters but I digress)
YJ Cartoon is deeply afflicted by time jumps and it’s not so good. After season 1 I was there for Bart cause I found his story compelling lol.
