Classic "promised-at-birth-to-the-Ghost-King" story, except the contract never states how, exactly, the King is to use the offered soul. Usually, one would be offered as a bride or sacrifice. But with Pariah Dark sealed away, his retainers got a little lazy in the last few millennia. They just made some generic contracts and practically handed them out like candy.

When Danny took over as king via conquest, that included all the weird and messed up soul contracts the previous retainers had signed. And since ghost magic was a thing and seemed to have it out for Danny personally, many of these contracts updated their terms and conditions as soon as that crown hit Danny's head, reflecting the new King's subconscious desires and personality.

This caused many issues with those still around to profit from these contracts. Some people lost their power, some gained more, and some were unbound and kicked to the curb. A few special people found themselves dropping dead after their less-than-ethical abilities disappeared.

Danny was unaware of the chaos he had unintentionally caused for quite a while. It was only brought to his attention when a letter arrived on his desk one day with a copy of someone's valid contract enclosed. The new changes have been highlighted, and a separate note is attached.

It seems that in exchange for blessings of near-immortality for her infant son, a mother had offered Pariah Dark both their souls in order to ensure her child's survival during harsh times. (The souls were to be collected upon death and were to be used as soldiers in the King's Army.) The mother's soul had returned to the Keep decades ago and was recently assigned to tend to the gardens, while her son seemed to have grown into a fine gentleman and was still alive. He used his mother's gifts to serve his country and loved ones well, it seemed.

At first, Danny didn't see what any of this had to do with him. If the mother was already a part of his kingdom, and the son would be eventually, why was a letter about the whole thing showing up before him?

Then he read the revised contract, which bore his magical signature. A signature that overruled the power of Pariah and binding it to him.

'...and as such, in return for the abilities stated above, [Mary Pennyworth] and [Alfred Pennyworth] will fulfill the conditions detailed below, upon pain of Ending.

[Mary Pennyworth], when returned to the Kingdom of Dark Kingdom of Stars, will work as a lieutenant in the Skeleton Army caretaker in the Gardens of Pluto.

Danny had to re-read the contract several times to understand what it was saying. He now had a caretaker? What did a caretaker do? Was it like a ghost parent? Could this guy ghost-ground him??

He sighed and pressed the speed dial on his phone for Tucker. Time to find out who the hell this Alfred Pennyworth guy was, and how to break a magic contract when it wasn't even fulfilled yet.

Meanwhile, Alfred had just found the original copy of the contract amongst his mother's belongings after it glowed and drew him in. The paperwork cleared up a lot of mysteries he'd always wondered about himself, even if he disapproved of his mother's methods. Nonetheless, he smoothed out the aged paper with dark green ink, noted the fresh (sloppy, a teenager?) signature, and began preparing to meet this supposed new King and his Court.

It wouldn't hurt to make introductions before he died, after all.

i know it says you don’t discuss or write about main character deaths so i hope this doesn’t cross that line,

but i was wondering if the player would ever get the opportunity to find out what happened to the deactivated accounts, or if what’s done is done and angel will never really find out what ren did?

⌞♥⌝ Aside from the scenes already in the game that describe what happened to the deactivated accounts (i.e. in Day 2 and 4), players will still have other opportunities to learn more about them!

Right now, the first few days are intended to be very lighthearted, stupidly optimistic, and almost facetious (to mimic those cliché romance games), so the scenes are very... brisk and underwhelming. Angel is also supposed to be blissfully unaware of everything Ren is doing behind the scenes, so they haven't fully felt the weight/impact of the character's deaths.

Also... Their deaths are left vague since Ren isn't the only killer in the game.

But as more days are released, the overall themes of 14DWY will get more serious and sombre — and Angel will be faced with the harsh reality of these deaths. If certain choices are made, Angel can also be given the option to witness a character die right in front of them (and possibly be the cause of their death as well 🤭)

So it's safe to say that yes, Angel will get to find out what happened to those deactivated accounts... One way or another lmao

The more I go over Rhysand and Tamlin's interactions in the books the more it seems to me that Rhysand acts like Tamlin's scorned ex that can't accept he's moved on from him. Like, not even Feyre thinks so much about him and she's the actual ex, the one Tamlin hurt deeply.

And yet, we have Rhysand going out of his way to torment Tamlin and insert himself in his life when the man doesn't even spare him a thought, as far as we know.

thinking about floyd and riddle spending their first halloween as a couple together... i think floyd absolutely loves how varied and lively all of the different halloween traditions he's learned about since coming to live on land are, and he wants to try out as many of them as he can each year. so when riddle tells him that his mother always made him stay in his room studying on halloween, and that the only halloween activities he's ever done were those that NRC students were required to participate in, floyd decides that the two of them are just going to have to spend the day doing everything they possibly can. riddle tries to say he's far too busy for such things, but floyd will not let it go and honestly riddle is only half-heartedly protesting anyway because he secretly did always dream of doing the things that other kids got to do on halloween, and maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal to take one day off and spend time with his boyfriend.

so, riddle never got to make jack-o-lanterns? floyd decides to "borrow" about half a dozen of the pumpkins jade and azul had bought for mostro lounge and takes them to riddle's dorm room. riddle is terrible at trying to carve them at first and floyd can't help but laugh at him a little, but since he knows it's not riddle's fault he's never gotten to do this before, he says he'll show him how to do it. unfortunately floyd isn't nearly as good as he thinks he is on account of having lived in the ocean for almost his whole life and now riddle gets to laugh right back at him. they probably both get the hang of it right as they're down to their last two pumpkins.

riddle never got to go trick-or-treating with his childhood friends? floyd texts trey and convinces him to get in touch with chenya as well so that they can all go together. when they approach the first house, in the costumes they had prepared for each of their school's halloween events, riddle starts to get nervous and asks if they aren't all a little too old to be doing this. floyd shoves several huge handfuls of candy from that person's bowl into his and riddle's pumpkin-shaped buckets and tells him it's not like there's any rule that says they can't, and besides, riddle is such a cute little goldfish that he practically looks like a kid in his costume anyway! chenya stifles a laugh while trey has to stop riddle from committing murder that night.

riddle's never gone to a haunted house before? floyd and chenya both think it would be hilarious to make him go to one, so they do. riddle absolutely hates it, but it honestly does make him happy to see everyone else enjoying it--even if floyd and chenya both keep trying to egg him and trey on and get them to go down creepy corridors and check around corners by themselves, and even if floyd keeps running off to different parts of the haunted house and then coming back and hugging or even lifting riddle from behind knowing full well that he'll get freaked out by it.

riddle never got to play the apple bobbing game that's traditional in the queendom of roses? turns out there's a place right by the haunted house where they can go to do it! predictably, floyd is great at it while riddle ends up drenched without getting any apples, but just giving it a try is more fun than riddle expected.

riddle's never gotten to make candy apples before? luckily, trey knows an amazing recipe as well as what combinations of toppings work the best, and he's willing to teach them both! riddle gets very confused at imprecise directions such as being told to use "a few" drops of food coloring on the syrup or to drizzle "a little" white chocolate over it, and keeps asking trey exactly how much he should use. floyd thinks this is adorable. he also thinks it's adorable when riddle tries to scold him for ignoring half of trey's directions and just doing whatever he thinks sounds good.

riddle's never done a horror movie marathon before, or even seen any halloween movies in general? floyd insists that they marathon at least 3 movies together. after the experiences he had at the haunted house, riddle doesn't think he'll enjoy horror movies, but he tries to keep his cool throughout the first one anyway... which does not work out, because he really can't handle jumpscares or excessive gore. during the first movie they watch, floyd (who loves slasher films so much that he laughs and cheers every time the monster gets a kill) is happy to let his goldfishie cuddle up to him and grip onto his arm to keep himself from knocking the popcorn bowl onto the floor, but you know that once it's over riddle is getting teased relentlessly about how scared he was. floyd decides to be nice and put on something tamer for their next two movies, and riddle actually ends up really enjoying coraline and especially beetlejuice.

by the end of the night riddle realizes that they've stayed up way too late at night and a small part of him wants to scold floyd for keeping him up so late, insisting on having him do all of these silly activities and eat all of these terribly unhealthy snacks. another part of him wishes he could scold his mother for keeping him from doing any of these things as a kid, with his friends and the other kids in his hometown, the way you're supposed to do it... and another part of him still is just incredibly happy and grateful to floyd for finally giving him the chance.

I read chapter 1 of The Prisoner's Throne yesterday and LISTEN I will NEVER get over the fact that Oak was/is canonically an anime kid. Even paragraphs later when he was all like "I'm horribleeee I'm a manipulatorrr" I just couldn't take him as seriously anymore. Like baby, you probably watched naruto or demon slayer or some shit, you're not evil.

saw a post last night complaining that the sound of music film and its popularity contribute to the "universalization of the holocaust" and that by depicting an austrian catholic gentile family's opposition to the nazi regime instead of being about jews, it paints some kind of false picture of who the nazis' real targets were. and i'm sorry but that is such a narrow minded, externally motivated reading of the film/musical. and i say this as a jew who broadly agrees that holocaust universalization and the sidelining of "the jewish problem" (as it was known in that era) in film and media is a genuine and pervasive problem. the sound of music...that is really not the right target for your ire, my friend

The current proprietor of Yotsubana Florals, a flower shop tucked away in the Akatsuka Ward. The previous shopkeeper was Kuroba's grandfather, but after he suffered from a nasty fall while working, they took over day to day operations of the business. Due to the quality of their flowers and the clear care put into their arrangements, plenty of people from within and outside the ward frequent Yotsubana Florals. One of those frequent customers is Karamatsu Matsuno, the shop being the provider of his seemingly endless supply of red roses.

The two met on a stormy day, when Kuroba invited in a drenched Kara to dry off and warm up in their shop, (even lending him an umbrella when the rain lighten so he could head back home.) After returning the umbrella and purchasing a bouquet of roses as thanks the next day, he's been a pest ever since. Miraculously enough, Kuroba finds him pleasant enough that they don't mind Karamatsu loitering in the shop while they're working. They actually find him pretty endearing despite him being himself, (especially whenever he shows the more genuine side of his personality.) It could also be that, for some reason, he seems oddly familiar to them. They couldn't put their finger on why that was until attending their high school reunion, when it all came back to them — not only was Kuroba in the same homeroom as Karamatsu during their 2nd year, he was also their crush back then. Unfortunately, Karamatsu hasn't seemed to have made this connection yet himself so Kuroba is left to navigate these revived feelings by themself.

Due to Kuroba's tall stature and sharp eyes, they can come off as a bit intimidating at first, but they're actually a pretty relaxed and gentle person… For the most part. They aren't one to take anyone's shit and can be extremely blunt and snarky at times, perhaps a result of being fed up after years of being bullied in school. Still, they're generally kind and friendly towards others. They're the type to easily become absorbed in their work and will jump at the chance to explain things pertaining to it, (like horticulture or the meaning of flowers.) They also enjoy playfully teasing people they're close with, (a trait that really comes out the closer they get with Kara.)

Back in high school, they were much more gloomy in appearance and personality. They were often bullied for being "creepy" due to their height and sharp eyes, (this wasn't exactly alleviated by their long dark brown hair and blunt bangs.) Their only real solace back then was being apart of the gardening club and beautification committee, often spending their time tending to flowers around the school's grounds or refreshing the flowers in their homeroom.

The major reason why they developed a crush on Kara back in high school was due to his kindness towards them and his fellow appreciation for flowers. What Kuroba pinpoints as the moment they fell for him was when he complimented them on the care they put into maintaining the courtyard's garden beds, saying that you can tell how loved they are. The exchange really stuck with them, but they admit it's a bit of a silly reason to fall for someone for. (This doesn't stop their ass from slipping right back into those feelings later on, though.)

After high school, they attended an all women's college, majoring in horticulture. Their confidence and self-assurance really improved when they started college, as they slowly started to find their own voice and style. They were actually somewhat popular in their department, (perhaps due to them developing a more princely presence over time.)

They're friends with Ichiko and Jyushiko, having attended the same college. They briefly dated Ichiko in their 2nd year of college, but decided it was better to just stay friends instead. The two still hang out frequently.

They're also friendly with Totoko and often hang around to chat with her whenever they buy fish from the Yowai's shop. She actually remembered Kuroba from high school, despite the two never really interacting in the past.

They own a moped and are often seen riding it around the ward to drop off flower deliveries. (Before taking over the business, they mostly did deliveries for the shop.)

They live in the 2DK apartment over Yotsubana Florals. They're pretty good at keeping things tidy, but they definitely have an slight issue with hoarding houseplants and bonsai. Their kitchen is also rarely touched since they aren't the best at cooking.

They own a bearded dragon named King, who they refer to as the shop's real manager. You'll sometimes find her relaxing on Kuroba's shoulders while they're working.
