Okay here's my impromptu datv review that nobody asked for but I feel a certain need to ramble. Spoilers duh
Shit I vibe with:
The hair. Not the selection but the overall way it was implemented. It's nice and flowy and actually moves when my character does which is pretty neat and definitely hits a spot I didn't know have
Exploration is kinda fun. As in, getting sidetracked by side paths and the likes
Contrary to popular opinion I actually like my Character having a voice and actually being part of the conversation, so that's cool
Considerably minor choices have an impact. And now I want to punch Solas for being a smug asshole after I was a dick. I mean cmon he kinda deserved that one
You can somewhat customize your room. That's fun
Also; aquarium room yay
Stuff thats just 'fine'
The character creator. The scars are cartoonish, the tattoo selection is something, for lack of better term, and the hair selection at least for elves is atrocious. But, there are a lot of sliders for the face and body itself and you can get lost in them for quite a while
The atmosphere is alright. Environment is pretty to look at usually
The tarot art and stuff is pretty
Shit I definitely don't like
The lightning, or lack thereof. Somehow my white haired dude has black hair everywhere but in the lighthouse where it's somewhat muddy gray. Outside of the character creator I don't think I've actually seen the color I chose. Seemingly not an issue for dark hairs tho
The action combat. Don't get me wrong, looked super fun, and may be, but at least as a warrior who needs to get up and close to enemies half of the time I just don't see shit cuz of the weird camera angles. The darkspawn and shit are especially horrible cuz the blight usually covers the mark that would tell me whether or not an incoming attack is blockable. Which is fun if your combat kinda relies on you blocking shit.
Complaining further about the 'action combat'; it's so oddly slow at times? At least the warrior combat doesn't feel particularly fast, especially dynamic attacks like dodging, rushing or jumping. Which yk, you'd think would be fast. Then again, I am used to incredibly fast-paced combat and games in general (yk the kind that doesnt even allow you to think), so that might be working at my disadvantage rn.
Further complaining about the combat +1; the tutorial is shit. I'm sorry but text dumps ain't a tutorial that's a wiki or smth. Tell me which button to press in a tutorial fight while I actually need it and see my actions immediately translated and don't tell me 2 seconds after spawning 'hey u can dodge like this' only to have absolutely no reason to dodge for the next 10 minutes and 3 cutscenes. That's just lazy game design
The combat controls. Listen I know this is super nitpicky but who the fuck uses space to dodge as standard control in 2024 and why do you hate your players like that?
The writing. It's so on the nose. It's legitimately written for people without any critical thinking ability or attention span or whatever. Also it's so fucking repetitive. Yes we've established the elven gods are evil like 10 times in the last 60 seconds. I think I understand now. Can we talk about literally anything else please?
It feels like all characters have this 'try not to smile now' smile all the time. The stakes are supposed to be high but everyone's just grinning about. It does definitely impact the vibe
Being a sarcastic bitch sometimes is as morally gray as this game gets
The story is paced slowly. Which could be a win, but in this case feels more like a drag or a timestretch to artificially increase the content.
I've been a bitch to harding, nearly killed her, told her to stay back multiple times, overall did only thinks she disapproves of and I still rizzed her up somehow. Why. How. Does it even matter if they approve or disapprove of my actions? So far it doesn't rly seem like it
Why do you allow me to pet cats nd stuff if I can't actually see it happening. -100 points just for this one in particular
Most of the NPCs are copy pasted models and I can't unsee it. BG3 spoiled my ass with their diversity.
Turn your brain off and it's fine. Nice to look at. 60€ worth nice to look at? I'm rly not sure. Oh but definitely don't try to think if you listen to or read the dialogue cuz it will physically hurt you.
Will I keep playing it? Idk, honestly I am kinda bored after the initial 'oh new shiny game' wore off even though the concept is exactly the shit I usually vibe with. But welp, we'll see, whatever happens happens, for now I'll just disappear back into the void where I came from and probably take a nap.

hot take? ik pro recovery has a broad definition or w/e but uh no matter what you should all definitely wholeheartedly accept, listen to, support and protect the rights of every single mentally ill and disabled person whether or not they are recovering, have recovered, or plan to recover, and do this Completely unconditionally bc. oh idk at any point in that timeline they are still fucking mentally ill and disabled either way, and need your support as a literal oppressed minority no matter what personal disagreements you have, E-FUCKING-SPECIALLY if you are nt and/or able bodied (aka capable of being an oppressor to us which includes when you ignore us or try to talk over us/tell us what to do with our bodies), and frankly if any of your ideas of us make you go against this, they are ignorant ideas and you are so Very simply just an ableist. like why do you think you get to have a say in what we have to do with our own mental illness and disability that We are the ones living with. why do you only want us if we’re trying our hardest to not be what we are. why do you think you get to reject some of us and even dare say its More supportive of us that way and that you’re an activist for it. hating us wont help any of us get any sort of treatment but it will especially not aid the ones struggling the MOST with recovery, which makes this whole thing a selfish fake moral crusade all about you pushing YOUR ideas of health and functioning. fighting oppression is not a fucking pick and choose game. if you frequently drop minorities that dont meet your standards or have personal self-affecting ideas that differ from yours, if you arent respecting our differences and protecting all of us, then you are contributing to our oppression, end of story. “i’ll only support you if you’re rejecting yourself” will always be a vile and inherently oppressive outlook to have on any type of minority, and its honestly so pathetic and wild that nts/ableds are all presuming any misery with our identity must come from ourselves and not conforming hard enough, and not ever Possibly from you, the conformist oppressor, threatening to abandon us if we dont comply with your demands.
tldr, i will be disabled until i die and ik how to be happy with what ive got, if you are waiting for that to change before you decide to fully respect me as a minority deserving of your support with no strings attached, you’re genuinely nothing but a hateful oppressor and i will spit on you from the grave.
#wall of text// // //#tw ableism#like sorry to drag this in but. if u vibe with 'my body my choice' can u maybe apply that to disabled ppl#my body/mind my fucking choices as soon as i let some dumbass whiny allistic/abled person that thinks the world revolves around them#and their PERSONAL standard of functioning be my goal standard of health tm#that is goddamn catering to oppressors im not gonna lick ur boots and pretend to be u just so u give me rights asshole#u should be fighting for me no matter fucking goddamn what#i dont fucking care what u think abt my health or wallowing in misery or my ''''''quality of life'''''''#if ur nt and/or abled 1. i dont have to listen to u and u dont get a say 2. pushing that shit on me is oppressive and ugly shut up#like it is not all about you oh my GOD????????? im sorry but its SHOCKINGLY self centered#'autistic ppl are HURTING THEMSELVES' 'why' 'bc they arent like ME!' like uHHHH MAM THIS IS A DAIRY QUEEN#GET OUT PLE ASE?? THERE IS NO ONE STANDARD OF HEALTHY HUMAN BEHAVIOR AND IT IS DEFINITELY NOT /YOURS/#like to put it in baby words i am not like you and cannot be like you and would be miserable TRYING to be like you#im trying to be the best version of ME which will still probably NEVER LOOK LIKE YOU even if i wanted to recover and was doing that rn like#you just need to get over urself and learn to recognize all types of recovery and that u dont get to have a say in somebody elses#you people are so mind bogglingly cruel and dumb u really do not get disability/neurodivergency politics at ALL

for the uni/college i’m vibing w a frat/house party setting
ur friends had to drag u out but u end up having have fun n u meet a guy and start chatting
then he asked to b pong partners n u guys are obvi winning
night goes on n they take a body shot off u then u guys disappear and end up fucking somwhere😵‍💫
ur choice of who for this one ;)
-💐
happy college/uni tuesdays :)
your friends end up ditching you when you get to the party, even though they were the ones who dragged you here in the first place.
you were walking around the party, trying to find at least one of them but you couldn’t. you did end up bumping into one of the frat boys of the house though.
like, literally bump into him.
pierre ends up spilling half of his drink on you on accident, both of you apologizing immediately.
“oh my god! your drink, i’m so sorry!”
“don’t worry about it sweetheart. i’m sorry about your dress. let me grab you some napkins to dry off, come on,” pierre says, grabbing your wrist and pulling you into the kitchen.
he grabs some paper towels and hands them to you. you dab them on your dress, trying to dry yourself off as much as possible.
“all good sweetheart? do you need to borrow one of my shirts?” he asks and you quickly shake your head.
“no, no. i should be heading back to my dorms anyways,” you say. “heading back? the party’s just begun! you can’t leave yet!” he exclaims.
“there’s not really anything here for me… my friends all ditched me,” you shrug. “i’m your new friend then. so we’re gonna hang out and party together. and we’re gonna start off with a game of beer pong,” he grins.
“what- i don’t even know how to play!” you exclaim but he’s already leading you to the table with all the cups.
pierre teaches you how to play and you mess up on your first few turns but after awhile, you get the hang of it.
and of course, you end up winning the game.
“see? you’re a pro at this!” pierre turns to you, hi fiving you.
“we need to celebrate this with shots!” he adds, before leading you back to the kitchen.
“alright, so we’ve got beer pong crossed off the list of things you’ve never done before. anything else we can cross off tonight?” pierre asks as he pours two shots of tequila.
you were a little tipsy already and now that you saw the tequila shots, you decided to just go for it.
“i’ve never done body shots before,” you say, shocking him. “i definitely wasn’t expecting that from you, sweetheart,” he starts before sliding the shot glass over to you.
“but i can definitely help you cross that off your list.”
before you could even think of saying anything, he’s already hopping onto the table, laying down and lifting up his shirt.
“what do you say, sweetheart?”
“i say… pour the shot,” you say and he smirks before placing the lime between his teeth then spilling a little bit of tequila onto his abs.
a few people had gathered around to watch and were cheering you on as you licked the tequila off his abs.
you keep eye contact with him the entire time your tongue is dragging against his skin and all the way up to his lips, taking the lime into your mouth.
pierre watches as you suck on the lime before taking it from your mouth, pressing his mouth to yours.
“alright fuck off! show’s over!” he yells out to the crowd once he pulled away from your lips, making you giggle a little.
“you know, another thing i’ve never done before is fuck a frat boy.”
“well then it looks like we’re gonna have to change that. let’s head up to my room for some privacy, sweetheart.”

ayo!! congrats on 666 <33 I'm not sure if its much of a request but I love how you wrote the demon kids personalities! I was wondering what kids of personalities you would see the other brothers kids having? Hypothetically of course (unless 👀)
BRO- I’ve actually been thinking about this for a while! Fan kids are fun to think about, what can I say? Now, these kids aren’t canon to the Awfully Familiar series, the HOL is crowded enough as is… but I hope you enjoy anyways!
(I’m giving all the kids names just so no one gets confused with which kid is whose)
Levi’s Kid
Uh let’s use probability to figure out how rare children of our snek boy are. The Otaku left the house (unlikely), spoke to a human being (very unlikely), did the devil’s tango with them (impossible)
I’m kidding, but seriously what the fuck why did this human exchange student look so much like Levi? Was that a tail? Hehehe… what a weird practical joke…
(I’m calling this MC Percy. Three guesses as to why)
Okay, onto the kiddo’s personality. I’m picturing them being REALLY hyped and REALLY enthusiastic about their hobbies and isn’t afraid to yammer about them. They’re good at what they do and they’re damn proud of it! They turn their envy into *~inspiration~* and get better at the things they enjoy doing!
In all fairness to Levi, it’s a bit easier for his kid because Percy isn’t literally being eaten alive and consumed by this sin every waking moment of his life… perks of being half human! :D
Percy loves swimming, and the ocean, and fish, and they brought a shark back from the beach- wait hang on a second-
It’s not uncommon for Levi to be hardcore gaming while Percy swims around in the fish tank.
The pair of them have a very good relationship, Percy is kind of Levi’s hero with how eager they are to get better at the things they love doing and how they almost never self pity spiral. The one issue is… ugh… Percy is a 🤢…. Sorry. Percy’s a 🤢 🤢-
They’re A FUCKING NORMIE. THEY DON’T LIKE ANIME!
Other than that, the two get along swimmingly. (Ba dum tisssss)
Percy’s reaction to Levi’s cool military titles is basically “WOAH! YOU HAVE BOATS?! CAN I GO ON ONE?!” And Levi would be a monster to decline.
Percy wore a pirate hat despite Levi telling them numerous times that they were a part of the navy, they CATCH pirates. Which are apparently still a big problem in the Devildom…
Also, Percy and Lotan absolutely adore each other. It makes Levi very happy
Satan’s Kid
Satan’s a pretty charming guy, and it’s canon that he’s amazing at seductive speech craft so it’s no surprise that he was able to seduce a human.
You know what is a surprise? The fact that Satan, the smart one, didn’t think to use protection! Like- DUDE I EXPECTED BETTER FROM YOU.
Whatever, anyway, when this kid slammed onto the floor of the assembly hall no one had time to react when the kid suddenly grew horns… and fangs… and a tail… OH FUCK THE KID WAS GOING THROUGH THEIR FIRST TRANSFORMATION WHAT THE FUCK-
(For simplicity’s sake, I’m going to call this kid Lyssa, mainly because of the meaning of the name)
The first thing Lyssa did was launch themselves straight at the first person they saw, and I ask you to guess exactly who sits in the middle seat of the assembly hall. That’s right… Satan… yay…
This kid nearly clawed his face off in the span of two seconds and it took Lucifer and Beel working together to drag them off of him and then Asmo had to step in to use his powers to calm them down. Well. That was eventful.
So Lyssa has a volcanic temper and they’re honestly really bitter and upset at everything, which is something that’s supposed to come in adult life, not so early. So what’s up with this kid? Well, when you’re born with a burning rage deep inside you that can be set off at even the slightest inconvenience and because of that everyone around you immediately assumes you’re dangerous or crazy can really do some damage to a kid.
So who oh who is Lyssa going to blame for this…? Hmmm… who is responsible for the anger? *Side eyes Satan*
“Wow, this kid is blaming me for passing down my wrath even though I couldn’t control giving it to them and if I had the choice I would have made sure they wouldn’t have to live with it and they’re mad at me for subjecting them to existence itself… wow this feels so bad :( who would treat someone like this..?” “*Dad sigh*”
The two of them do eventually get along. It’s actually Satan who extends the olive branch and offers to help them control their anger. As the two spend time together, Lyssa’s intense hatred slowly subsides.
So… what’s Lyssa going to do now? They’ve spent so much of their life being defined by their anger… who the fuck are they????? U-uh… cats! Cats! Lyssa likes cats! Is liking cats a personality? No? Okay… um… Music! Music is relaxing! Lyssa likes music! Um… um… ooo- look at that! They like space! And stars!
You knew what they don’t like? School. Lyssa doesn’t like learning in a controlled environment where they’re being told what to learn. Leave them alone so they can go read about space.
Beelzebub’s kid(s)
*munch* *munch* *chew* *chomp* huh, *chomp* why does the takeout- I mean the human look so much like him…? They’re his kid..? *choke* *cough* *cough* …Huh. Want some chips?
Surprisingly chill first meeting. Well, Beel and the kid were chill, everyone else was freaking the fuck out.
I’m calling this kid Pepper. Why? Fucking guess.
Pepper themselves is just… chill. They’re sort of like a capybara, their vibes are just so immaculate that everyone wants to hang out around them.
Unlike Beel, Pepper’s penchant for food mainly comes from “food is good.” instead of “my body is literally eating itself alive every second of the day and I need to be eating something at almost all times in order to stave off a rampage.” Beel is very happy that his kid doesn’t have to live with food constantly on the brain.
All was well until three days into the exchange program when Pepper asked at the dinner table “so when are we bringing my twin down here?”
…twin genes man… twin genes…
Second kid, I’m calling them Cane. (CANE PEPPER, GET IT?! GET IT?!) this kid is less like a capybara and more like a honey badger. They don’t give a shit.
Here’s the thing though… they’re identical twins.
Cane is basically Beel but smaller. They follow Beel to the gym and usually get stopped at the door. “Kids aren’t allowed in the gym.” Ha, the rules don’t apply to Cane, they just cross their arms and raise their eyebrows and whoever is stopping them just steps aside. Don’t fuck with the honey badger kid.
Pepper and Cane are super close though, but don’t ask if they have a telepathic link or something, Cane will fuck you up and Pepper won’t be able to stop them. (I know a pair of identical twins, and the amount of times they’ve been asked if they can read each other’s minds is enough to make anyone homicidal)
Belphegor’s kid
*squints* how’d this happen..?
Whatever. When Belphie’s kid woke up on the floor of the assembly hall everyone took one look at this kid and collectively went “shitballs”
Belphie was in the attic and his kid was wandering around the house like they ran the place! What the fuuuuuuuuck was Lucifer supposed to do with this????
Anyway, meet Arien.
Arien, how does one describe this little hellspawn? Well, one would call them the brood of Lucifer or the spawn of Satan but that would be false because this manipulative evil devil-child that crawled straight out of a teacher’s nightmares is BELPHIE’S kid. And it fucking SHOWS.
This kid won the demon/human genetic lottery and they’re going to make it everyone’s problem. Basically, they’re sin is sloth, but unlike Belphie, Arien’s is more voluntary, if that makes sense. They sleep and slack off because they like not doing work, not because they’re always tired. They have this sort of lazy relaxed facade that vanishes the second it’s not needed, it’s honestly kind of terrifying.
They quickly learn that if they just pretend to be having troubles with being constantly tired, the rest of the house will go easy on them if they miss their chores and schoolwork.
Jeez Louise when this kid met Belphie…
They both just stared at each other for a solid five minutes before anyone said anything. Belphie somewhat nervously started up his “oh woe is me get me out of here :(“ charade, and the kid played along for a few weeks, until of course, they got suspicious.
You remember how Belphie guilt spiralled with L!MC? Yeah imagine that but 40 times worse, and he hadn’t even done anything yet.
But yeah, blah blah blah Arien breaks Belphie out, they don’t die, family’s back together, happily ever after. But not quite. Arien’s “oh no I’m sorry I’m sleepy…” charade was found out and boy howdy was everyone pissed.
Surprisingly, it was Belphie who gave Arien the wake up thwack, but Arien called Belphie out on his laziness so Belphie was forced to become a better example.
The way they fixed Ari’s behaviour? Extra chores, extra schoolwork, extra everything, and the boys did nothing to help. Basically, “this is how we felt! Deal with it!”
It worked… thankfully.

Request: Yes or No
Couldn't think of a better title lmao. This is gonna be real shitty but the intro to series are either amazing or pure shit. Gonna give (Y/N)'s mom and fam a name cause I don't wanna keep writing (M/N) or (L/N). (Y/N) isn't related to any of the characters fyi. Spot the very obvious accidental reference
~
"Why California? Out of all the places in America, California was choice you went with? Not Washington, Oregon, or fuck, I don't know, North Dakota?" (Y/N) rested his head against the window, watching the houses pass by. His mother, Tanya, glanced at him with a small frown.
"Baby, aren't you tired of Alaska? Same old cold weather?" Tanya asked, staring forward at the empty road. (Y/N) scoffed, sitting up and looking at her with a raised brow.
"You can escape the cold. You can't escape the heat." (Y/N) pointed out, leaning back and picking up his phone with a frown. He looked at the texts from his friend, sighing softly.
Yaya
U already in cali??
(Y/N)
Ya
(Y/N)
It sucks
Yaya
New school new u bby
Daniel
Whats the time difference?
(Y/N)
It's 4 here
(Y/N)
Wbu?
Yaya

"Baby, could you look at me?" Tanya asked, pulling into the school parking lot and parking the car. (Y/N) turned his head to look at her.
"I'm sorry I suddenly dragged us out of Alaska. I just felt like we could use a change. Alaska feels suffocating as an adult. I want you to have new experiences." Tanya explained softly. (Y/N) nodded, glancing at the students walking into school.
"Listen, if you get anxious or feel sick, text me, okay?" Tanya gave him a comforting smile, running a hand through his hair. (Y/N) nodded, opening the car door. He unbuckled his seatbelt and got out of the car.
"Have a good day, sweetie!"
"You too." (Y/N) closed the door, walking towards the school. He had lived in Seward his whole life. He was used to the cold, the sound of boats, the cold immediately hitting his face the moment he stepped outside. (Y/N) knew it wasn't about experiences. His mom just didn't want him to have the same boring life she did. (Y/N) looked at his phone, opening the group chat again. He looked through the texts, smiling at the pictures his friend sent him. (Y/N) looked at his email, sighing as he searched for his locker. He found it, opening it and glancing at the guy beside him.
"Uh, hey, I'm Ethan. You're new, right?" Ethan gave an awkward smile, clearing his throat. (Y/N) licked his lips, nodding. Ethan seemed like the typical nerdy loner.
"Yeah, I'm (Y/N)."
"Cool, cool. Where are you coming from?" Ethan tilted his head, closing his locker and leaning against it. (Y/N) didn't feel like making friends but Ethan could probably help him get familiar with everyone and everything.
"Alaska." (Y/N) replied, closing his locker and giving him a tight smile. Ethan's brows raised, letting out a small chuckle.
"Really? That's cool, I've never really left California. What's it like?"
"Cold." (Y/N) chuckled softly. Ethan laughed and nodded, licking his lips as he stuck his hands in his pockets. (Y/N) looked him over. He was small, skinny, seemed nervous and awkward. Probably a good guy.
"So, are you a junior?" Ethan asked. (Y/N) nodded, going into his phone gallery and pressing on the saved picture of his schedule. He showed him the screen, watching him lean in and smile.
"We have 1st, 3rd, and 6th together." Ethan said, motioning down the hall. "Come on, I'll show you around."
"Thanks." (Y/N) gave him a small smile, following him. His gaze flickered from student to student. Some glanced at him, knowing he was new. (Y/N) didn't like attention. He didn't like the spotlight. He hated when people stared or payed too much attention to him. He hated the way a pit formed in his stomach and he became nauseous when he was called on and people stared at him in class. (Y/N) entered the class, taking a seat beside Ethan and sighing softly.
"Thanks, by the way. I didn't expect to make a friend until like my second week here."
"No problem. I know it can feel shitty to be the new kid." (Y/N) gave Ethan a small smile, looking forward.
(Y/N) set down his lunch tray, sitting down across from Ethan. He glanced around the courtyard, picking up a french fry. Ethan finished drinking his water, humming softly.
"By the way, whatever you do, don't mess with Maddy Perez." Ethan said, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. (Y/N) furrowed his brows.
"Right, you don't know them." Ethan chuckled, turning his head. He looked around, searching for the girls.
"There, the girl with black hair besides the blonde and the girl in a jeresy." Ethan motioned towards them. Maddy seemed like your typical popular. Makeup done perfectly, perfect body, her hair was done perfectly.
"She's a cheerleader and probably the most popular girl in school. She's been with Nate Jacobs for a while. Nate is a football player and his dad has a lot of power. He's.. Terrifying. The girls beside her are her best friends. Cassie and Barbara." Ethan picked up his burger. "There's Kat too and Kat is.."
"Your crush?" (Y/N) cocked a brow, chuckling. Ethan's tone had changed the moment this 'Kat' girl had been mentioned. His eyes had softened and a smile had appeared on his face.
"U-Uhm, n-no. She's a friend, like, just a friend." Ethan gave a nervous fake smile. (Y/N) hummed, shaking his head as he chuckled softly. He looked down at his tray, poking at the wrapped burger.
"Anyways, Cassie's nudes and some videos of her got leaked by her exes. It was real shitty." Ethan told him, finishing his burger. "There's Rue and Jules. Rue overdosed over the summer and Jules is new here."
"What?" (Y/N) furrowed his brows, staring at Ethan. The biggest thing that ever happened at his school was two teachers fighting. Drugs were an issue everywhere. He just didn't expect a teenger to OD and everyone to know. Ethan looked back at him.
"Do you wanna.. Hang out?"
"I have to unpack." (Y/N) replied, picking up his phone and scrolling through his instagram.
"Oh, shit, that's the new kid." Barbara pointed out, pulling her hair back into a ponytail. Cassie and Maddy turned to look.
"Oh.. Where's he from?" Cassie asked as she twirled a strand of her blonde hair around her finger. She wanted to forget all about McKay after their argument and breakup. The new boy seemed like a good distraction.
"He seems sweet." Cassie said with a small smile. Maddy scoffed, rolling her eyes as she looked at her.
"That's what you say about every guy, Cassie." Maddy opened her backpack, taking out her makeup bag. She took out some gloss, turning when she spotted Nate. She scowled when Nate very obviously flirted with some girl. Maddy took in a deep breath, turning toward her friends.
"Is there a party tonight? I need to fuck with Nate. He's such a dick." Maddy tapped her nails against her phone case. Cassie gave her a comforting smile, shaking her head.
"You can come over and we'll have a photo shoot. You can post it and make him regret everything." Cassie grinned as Maddy's eyes lit up, nodding.
"This is why I love you, Cass." The two giggled as Maddy wrapped her arms around her.
"But, back to that new guy.. If he hangs with Ethan, he's probably a loser." Barbara said, watching the two boys. Cassie gasped softly, shooting her a look.
"BB! Ethan's actually a really sweet guy. We did a project together last year." Cassie said. Maddy nodded, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear.
"Yeah, BB, don't be a bitch. You do got a point though. He gives major school shooter vibes." Maddy said, leaning forward to look around Cassie. She watched as the two stood and threw away their trash.
"Hey, they're staring at you." Ethan said, nudging (Y/N). (Y/N) turned towards the girls, catching their eyes before he shrugged and turned away.
"Let's go to History."

~ Yandere Hyunjin - X31 [CULT SPECIAL 2/2 PTS]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
tw / trigger warning: yandere themes, cult themes (brainwashing etc), violence, blood/gore, murder, disturbing themes, swearing
wc: 3k
a/n: so I’m a bit tipsy and wrote this just like really quickly idek what’s going on or if this is shit lmao sorry, I will proofread this tomorrow mwah love u
summary: the gang from your hometown that you knew as criminals had now kidnapped you and as they take you to their destination you soon find out they’re actually a cult, will you be able to escape or will you become their pet forever?
‘‘ You’re..them ‘‘ you muttered at last somehow sounding disbelieved.
‘‘ You must’ve known right? At least a part of you knew all along ‘‘ he answered with a smirk.
‘‘ You must’ve known right? At least a part of you knew all along ‘‘ he answered with a smirk.
You huffed.
‘‘ If I knew, don’t you think I would’ve fought back harder than I did? ‘‘ you looked at him coldly.
‘‘ Well actually- ‘‘ he leaned in closer to you, so close that you could see your own reflection in his crazy, empty brown eyes.
‘‘ I think you wanted this ‘‘ he adds.
‘‘ W-what are you fucking crazy? ‘‘ you exclaimed hysterically, the panic was overtaking your body every second that passed.
He nodded and the smirk was back again as if he enjoyed seeing you like this. You bet he had seen way worse captures of his, who suffered a lot more.
‘‘ You want to know why? ‘‘ he asked tauntingly.
He didn’t even give you a chance to answer before he went on.
‘‘ You’re a lonely pathetic woman in her 20s. You have no job, no money, no boyfriend or husband and no family ‘‘ he said this in such a mocking manner that it took you aback. You felt like your whole body went cold, like you were an insect under his magnifying glass and after he had inspected you he crushed you.
This was all too much for you. You tried the best that you could to turn away from him, sort of looking out the window - only, all the windows were covered up and you assumed it was to make you feel disoriented and not see where you were. It was smart, you’d admit that. On top of that the leader had kept you occupied so you didn’t even get the chance to feel what ways the car was turning to somehow name your location.
He didn’t say anything more for the rest of the ride except for a low,
‘‘ I’m Hyunjin. The leader ‘‘
Then he left you alone, you weren’t sure if he was watching you but it sure felt like his eyes never left you, even when you were turned so that you couldn’t see him in the corner of your eye, the feeling of his gaze lingered.
Not long after, the van came to an abrupt stop throwing you forwards slightly. The doors were slid open revealing the familiar guys from before. Only three of them were in the doorway now though, one shorter one with freckles, the other shorter one with a mean and stern looking face and one that looked like a golden retriever. As you looked at them you wondered how they had ended up here in this gang. They were once normal people just like yourself, what happened to them? Perhaps...they were kidnapped like yourself and they would try to make you one of them?
‘‘ Get out ‘‘ the mean looking one barked at you and then said to Hyunjin ‘‘ We’re here master. Everything is ready ‘‘
The leader reached over again to unbuckle your seatbelt but he wasn’t really looking at you this time, he seemed to be in a hurry. In fact he seemed to be so stressed when you had stepped out that he swept you off your feet. You yelped in surprise but he wasted no time, walking straight away towards the buildings doors.
It looked like it was some kind of abandoned church. It was worn down and dark, covered in graffiti and had several white sheets covering up the window. You shivered at the creepy vibe it gave off, it looked like the perfect place for a gang.
As your group approached the entry doors, two of the guys from before hurried up in front to hold the doors open for Hyunjin and you. You felt him walk again and you tried to turn from your place in his arms to look around. You gasped.
People in masks and dark cloaks stood in a circle around some kind of table. The walls were dirty and worn out just like the outside and the familiar church seats didn’t look very familiar anymore, they were filled with clutter like books and candles. More candles decorated the walls and it had weird drawn symbols in white and red, which looked too much like blood.
You desperately tried to crawl out but his arms clinging onto you only got harder, tightening the grip. You were coming closer and closer to the group who had now turned when they noticed your presence. The group split in the middle, making way for you to pass through. You heart dropped when you had passed by the people.
Right there was an altar. It had old dry blood ingrained in it all over. By how the dried blood looked like it had run down the sides, you thought about how much blood there had to have been there, they probably killed someone and the thought of it makes you sick.
He sat you down unexpectedly gentle and stepped back slightly while looking at you. You felt like there wasn’t a chance in hell to escape with the mob getting ever so closer as the seconds passed, soon they’d be suffocating you although it felt like their mere presence was already doing that.
‘‘ W-what, where am I...Hyunjin ‘‘ you said his name slowly as if trying it out.
His expressions didn’t change, he looked cold like he had done that same night you met him.
‘‘ Y/n, I’ve had my eyes on you for a long time. Planning, waiting for the perfect moment to take you away ‘‘ he explained calmly.
You didn’t say anything but when he said he’d been watching you for a long time you felt chills down your spine again. You didn’t feel safe here and you didn’t know what they wanted.
‘‘ Master decided to save you ‘‘ one of the mob whispered in an almost hysteric voice.
They looked really riled up or quite frankly, crazy - from the way they got closer and closer and how they looked at their leader with so much admiration, like he was some sort of God.
‘‘ Save me? ‘‘ you asked looking straight at Hyunjin to try to read his face.
You thought that maybe they were just joking but he still didn’t move a muscle. He took a deep breath before speaking again.
‘‘ You see, all the people out there they’re really bad people. They have turned to the false God and I’m the only one who can save you ‘‘ he answered fairly casually studying your face and reaction to what he had said.
‘‘ Uh, false God? ‘‘
‘‘ Jesus and his father ‘‘
You huffed. It still felt like a joke but the people surrounding you made you doubt it. Either they were really good actors or this crazy man had taken advantage of vulnerable people and brainwashed them into worshipping him.
‘‘ He’s evil and tries to mask his evil words with acts of ‘‘ kindness ‘‘ ‘’ he air-quoted the word kindness and looked truly annoyed as he explained this to you.
You weren’t really sure how to respond.
‘‘ I...Appreciate that and what you do but I would like to go home now, is that okay? ‘‘ you tried.
‘‘ No ‘‘
Silence followed. You felt like the mob were silently judging you and maybe even hated you because you got all this attention from their precious leader.
‘‘ U-um well I do have to go, I’m not interested sorry ‘‘ you swung your legs over the stone seat and put your feet on the ground below.
He didn’t move from his spot which made you hopeful, but then when you approached the mob expecting them to step aside for you to pass - they didn’t. They stood just as still, just like him. You saw him turn to you and then felt a hard grip around your forearm.
He was angry but you also saw some hint of disgust in his eyes.
‘‘ See everyone how grateful you are that I saved you, see what could’ve become of you. We’ve got a lot of work to do with this one ‘‘ he said to the mob while staring into your eyes. He smirked for a moment and that’s when you realised, this was a cult.
He was fully aware of the truth vs made up things and how he affected all these people but you supposed he liked the power. It made you sick yet again to think about how many lives he had ruined by spewing such nonsense.
His loyal followers all shouted in union,
‘‘ Yes master! ‘‘
Before Hyunjin started to drag you to a doorway at the opposite side of the room. It felt like his grip was getting tighter and tighter and you groaned quietly at the pain, it was sure to leave bruises but you knew he didn’t care - he had probably left a fair amount of bruises on his followers before.
He took you through the doorway and turned to the right. You reached a long stone corridor that felt very creepy. He kept dragging you until he had gotten to the room at the end of the corridor. There, he still kept his iron grip on you while fumbling in his pockets to take out a silver key.
‘‘ This is where you will be staying ‘‘
Anger bubbled up inside you. Who is he to decide that he was gonna ‘’ save you ‘’ to kidnap you and to order you around without you having a choice? It made you feel so belittled, and because of it you hated him already and what made it worse is the fact that you were pretty sure he enjoyed it.
He shoved you in and closed the door behind him swiftly without turning his back to you, smart, he didn’t even give you one opportunity to escape him.
‘‘ Tomorrow will be your first ritual, you should be excited ‘‘ he gave you a small smile.
You wanted to punch him so bad, to kick and scream and to run for your life. The room he had pushed you into was as cold-stoned as the corridor had been, literally. It looked like an old-school prison cell in those castles with stone floor, walls and ceiling. The windows were barred shut and was way too high up for you to reach anyway.
The only thing that made it look anything other than a prison cell was the double bed in the middle of the furthest wall. It had scarlet velvet looking covers and looked quite comfortable. In that moment you wanted nothing more than for him to leave so you could let your growing exhaustion take over you and figure out a plan to escape later after resting.
And so he actually did - to your surprise. You suppose it was because of the look of burning hate you had given him this whole time or that you had refused to answer him but whatever the reason, you felt relieved.
He sighed and left, closing the door rather harshly after him but you didn’t even look at him, he didn’t deserve that.
Your head found the pillow automatically and you let your body relax, falling asleep not that long after.
-
‘‘ Hello? Y/n get the fuck up ‘‘ the distant voice who had been mumbling, or least that’s what it sounded like to you - suddenly started to get louder and clearer.
You body jerked awake when you realised it wasn’t a dream and the first thing you saw when you opened your eyes was those brown eyes of the leader himself. He looked annoyed, like you were just a burden to him and the fact that you’d woken up so late was just another inconvenience.
He rolled his eyes.
‘‘ Finally. We haven’t got all day Ms princess ‘‘
You yawned at looked at him still half-asleep. You got up without protesting though because you didn’t want to anger him any more.
You wasted no time and even got dressed in front of him, ignoring his presence while continuing to be in a dazed and tired state.
He seemed to wait as patiently as he could but that didn’t stop him from sending you glares every now and then.
At last you were ready, dressed in a white plain summery dress that had been put out for you to wear. You noticed while walking up to him that he was now wearing very light coloured clothes as well - a strong contrast to the day before. He didn’t have his piercings on, his tattoos were covered and he wore long white linen clothes. You gagged at the thought of him picking out clothes just so you would match.
‘‘ Come on ‘‘ he mumbled. His patience seemed to be running out.
He opened the door and basically pushed you out in front of him, then he closed the door once again and followed quickly. It felt like he was breathing down your neck, not giving you any space to - you assumed - not make you get away. You ignored him being that close and focused on his directions instead. He told you to go back the same way you had come from and out of the church, into a garden where the ‘’ ceremony ‘’ as he called it would happen.
You stayed silent and walked to where he wanted you to. The church was empty, which was a bit odd but you kept going until you laid your hands on the  big doors again and pushed it open.
You recognised the place you had been at yesterday, even the car was still there. But you couldn’t do anything, not even get close to the car before Hyunjin barked his orders,
‘‘ Right. Then walk straight to the garden. No stopping ‘‘ and you reacted like a robot, casting one last sorrowful look at a possible escape route.
You followed his directions and walked into a clearing in the forest the church had been hiding behind itself. The mob was there again.
Of course
You thought yourself and couldn’t stop your hand from forming a fist. More people, less chance of escaping. But where else would they be if not by the side of their precious leader?
They gave you very genuinely happy smiles which freaked you out and you smiled back awkwardly to not feel like you were being rude. As you approached the group Hyunjin put his fingertips to your upper back guiding you forwards, or rather to the middle of the circle again who parted once you got close, allowing you to pass through.
Then you spotted it, another altar.
But this time you weren’t really scared, until Hyunjin told you lay down on it and his words from before rang in your head over and over again,
‘‘ Tomorrow will be your first ritual, you should be excited ‘‘
Fuck
What was going to happen to you now?
‘‘ Welcome everyone ‘’ he started off his speech, turning to the gathered crowd.
‘’ We’ve gathered here today to make a union, to forever bond the master, the greatest, to y/n, the princess ‘‘
Your head was spinning. It felt like the coldness of the stone you were laying on had transferred to your blood, making it ice cold. You weren’t even sure if you were alive anymore or if this was possibly just a dream.
‘‘ Y/n? ‘‘ he suddenly called out which caught your attention.
You turned your head to him, tears threatening to fall any second now.
‘‘ I have to do this, for us to be together forever ‘‘ he said this in an almost pitiful way and your gut knew what was coming but you didn’t want to believe it.
You were going to fight and be optimistic until the last second.
‘‘ You first, then me okay? If you keep still this will be quicker ‘‘ the fact that he looked truly sorry made you forget for a moment what kind of person he was.
He walked up to you and you got so enhanced in his eyes, it was easy to see how all the other people had believed his lies. You were even ready to accept your faith, and so you did the only thing you could - you closed your eyes and waited.
You weren’t sure but you think you heard him say ‘’ good girl ‘’ under his breath. You also heard some distant hushed talking and some items being scraped together but you held you breath and kept your eyes closed, it was for the best.
No closed eyes or deep breaths could’ve prepared you for what came next though,
the pain was unbearable. A cold metal that was sharp penetrated your chest causing you to scream out.
‘‘ Stop! Stop! Stop! ‘‘
Hyunjin hushed you comfortingly and stroke your hair slowly, placing small kisses to your forehead but you barely felt them - the pain was so overpowering it felt like it was the only thing you felt.
Eventually when your breaths started becoming more heavy and your vision started to get blurrier, you opened your eyes one last time. You saw the man you had started to hate in such a short time, now...he was your killer.
Then you closed your eyes again and waited and waited while it felt like the liquid had decorated your entire body, hell maybe even the whole forest.
At last, after much suffering
the world did become black and you were finally at peace.

Her footsteps were mute as she padded forward on the concrete, searching furiously through her crochet bag. The box in her hands stayed tightly gripped though, Roger noted. He waited a bit until he was certain she had no chance of finding what he thought she was looking for, and that he would be her last resort.
“Need a light?”
He watched with careful eyes as the girl next to him fumbled about to pick out a cigarette from the nearly emptied box, probably just some cheap ones from the gas station near the dorms.
“Yes, thanks.”
The brunet nodded, bringing his forward to her’s and inhaling, a few loose embers falling to the ground in a sparkling orange flurry.
Roger observed the way her chipped nails on ring adorned fingers shakily held the cigarette as she brought it to her lips, taking a very long drag.
It was windy out that night (which was the reason he was telling himself he decided not to bother with his Zippo), her silky black dress doing barely a thing to keep her covered from the chilly temperatures. He noticed the blue tint to her formerly painted lips, only a pale stain of color left behind. He also happened to notice the goosebumps that graced her exposed arms and legs, and her slight shiver that came with it.
The girl nervously adjusted the twisted strap to her purse, sending a glance in Rog’s direction every once in a while, but mostly she kept her gaze fixed on the stars above. She seemed to be mesmerized by the way they twinkled so brightly, even in the polluted sky. The bottles of liquor in her purse clinked together, and she cringed visibly at the sound, a shiver being sent through her bones.
He smiled at her behavior, oddly endeared by it, perhaps even enchanted.
“What’s your name?”
She turned, taking the stick from between her lips. Roger kept his eyes glued to the plump flesh momentarily despite the movement away from the area.
“That’s none of your business, Roger.” She smiled, a playful look set ablaze in her eyes.
He looked down, putting his hands up in mock surrender.
“How do you know my name, then?” He questioned curiously, slanting his eyes and quirking a brow.
“Your band.” Her voice seemed softer, almost a fond tone set within it.
“You’ve seen us play?”
“Yeah, you guys are good.”
“You’re a fan then?”
She chuckled, looking to her feet.
“I wouldn’t go that far.”
He laughed, nodding yet again.
They stayed together for some time, silently and mutually agreeing that enough had been said. They finished off their smokes, and with that, she turned to go.
“Bye, Roger.”
He bit his lip, feeling the sting shoot through him. He was conflicted on if to make a move, not wanting to diminish his confident and cool reputation he believed he had built for himself. He settled for shouting something along the lines of “will I see you around?” (which upon thinking back over it, maybe it wasn’t that cool), to which she only shrugged and kept walking.
He could hear the bottles loudly clanking together as she sauntered off, lord knows where to. He watched her go until she turned the corner, tossing one final look in his direction before continuing on, leaving him in deep thought.
-
“I’m telling you, mate, she was drop dead gorgeous. And I have no idea who she is, no name or anything!”
Brian rolled his eyes, tossing his notebook across the room onto the yellow sofa Roger was resting on, turning his full attention to his distraught friend.
“Well, did you ask her for her name?”
He shook his head, rolling his eyes in a similar manner to Bri. “Yes, I did. She said it was ‘none of my business’.” He scoffed, twirling a single drumstick between his fingers while tapping his foot repeatedly, annoying Brian to no end (per usual). The curly headed man only barked out a laugh, finding the entire situation quite humorous, if he was being honest.
“But she knew the band! Said that she thought we were good. S’ like she couldn’t make up her damn mind.” He grumbled, slumping forward.
“Wait, she knows the band?”
The drummer looked at him like he had two heads nodding slowly.
“Yeah, what about it?”
Brian stood up and sighed, grabbing his guitar and headed to the edge of the bar’s stage, resting behind the curtain briefly.
“You really are thick, Roger.”
“Hey, what’s that supposed to mean?” He joined him by the curtain, noticing Tim had come up behind the pair.
“What’s all this about, then?”
“Nothing.” Brian and Roger replied in unison. Tim huffed, making his way onto the stage where the growing crowd was waiting. Cheers could be heard for the frontman as he introduced himself, saying something about how the rest of the band would be out in a second, and that they were just having some “sound issues”.
“Rog, if she’s a fan, she’s probably here tonight, yes?”
His eyes widened, and he suddenly began to feel quite dumb, not that he would admit it.
“Yeah, I suppose so…but she said she wasn’t a fan?” He trailed off, confused.
“She probably was just saying that for some reason. I don’t know, women are odd, they like to play hard to get.” Brian commented, oddly flippant for how conflicting his statement was.
Roger stood in place for a moment, still greatly confused what Brian was trying to get at. He shook his head and furrowed his brows, trying to put together the puzzle of this mess in his mind.
“Roger, for God's sake, don’t think about it, just go.”
Following his advice, Roger did his best to disregard any previous thoughts of confusion, a switch flipping in his mind. He stood taller, saying, “You know what Bri, maybe you’re right.”
“Great, go on then.” He watched as Roger bounded out with a newfound adrenaline and a smile plastered on his face, rolling his eyes for what wouldn’t be the final time that night at his bandmate’s antics.
As soon as he had made it behind his kit, he was scanning the crowded room, trying to locate the girl from last night. He watched the door throughout the performance, trying to see if she might have just come in a bit late. He held the hope she would somehow show up with him in his mind, but all to no avail.
The entire night, he couldn’t shake the thought of her lips from his mind, or the way the skin of her neck was so open and exposed, practically begging for him to attack it with his own lips. And with the way things were going thus far, he was sure that pretty face of her’s would be the death of him, he was certain, in fact.
“Find her?” Bri had questioned almost as soon as they had ended for the night, the lot of them now working on cleaning up.
“Nah. She never showed up.”
“I’m sorry, Rog. Maybe you’ll see her again soon, the campus isn’t that huge, you know.” Roger’s mouth formed a thin line as he raised his eyebrows, not convinced in the slightest that the situation proposed would occur.
“At this point I’m wondering if she’s even a bloody student here.” Roger grumbled, obviously no longer feeling the initial electric adrenaline of the night's performance.
Brian frowned, placing a sympathetic hand on his friend's shoulder and patting it once or twice before standing to go finish packing up.
It was later now, and the boys were finally leaving the bar, bidding their goodbyes to those around them. Roger walked out the front (in what Tim and Brian joked was a ‘moping manner’), hearing the bell jangle above his head, ringing annoyingly in his ear. The cold air hit him like an arctic breeze (or a ton of bricks, he wasn’t sure which description was more fitting). He shook his head and blinked a few times, as if that would rid his body of the frigid feeling. He sighed dramatically and pulled his corduroy jacket tighter around himself, watching as his breath made a small cloud in front of him.
“Roger?”
He turned, recognizing the voice immediately.
“Having a pity party, are you?” She giggled out, wrapping her arms around her middle.
“It’s only me, so no. Not a party.”
She “ahh”-d in understanding, her mouth forming into a sly grin. Her lips were a pale pink color that night, her eyes a bright blue shade. And similarly to the night previous, she was graced with only a brown fringed dress, her matching boots in one hand, a lit cigarette in the other.
“Then what would it be if I joined you?”
He stood in thought, tilting his head. “I think then, yeah, it would be a party.”
“Do you not get cold, ever?” He added after a beat of silence, observing her ill outfit choice for the frosty climate. She rolled her eyes, muttering out a brief “ha, ha.”
Roger couldn’t help but bite his lip, holding back a laugh.
“I do on occasion get a little bit chilly. But I like the feeling.”
He tilted his head, walking over to where she was leaning against the brick wall of the dive bar. He turned to face her, not that she noticed, putting his weight on the rough surface behind him.
“It makes me feel,” she hesitated, struggling to find the right word, although she felt it was right on the tip of her tongue.
“Alive?”
She finally met his eyes after what seemed like forever, softly nodding. To him, she looked like an angel in that moment, the street light so beautifully illuminating her locks like a halo around her. He reached a cautious hand forward, dragging it against her cheek, down to her bottom lip.
Her mind was screaming at her to leave while she still could, to somehow not fall in the mix of the infamous campus player that was Roger Taylor.
But her heart? Well, as cliche as it sounds, her heart was telling her to disregard any reasonable thoughts and just kiss the bastard, for God’s sake.
And if anyone knew Y/n Y/l/n, they knew that most times, she would listen to the latter mentioned, rather than the former. And so after several moments of unbearable silence, she decided she would. Catching on relatively fast, Roger took her flush against him, Y/n able to feel his breath fanning over her face.
She leaned forward with a small smile, placing her hands on either side of his face. Her eyes wandered to his plump and rosy lips, adrenaline pumping through her veins. But before she could make the final leap, so to say, Brian, of all people, called out her name in a confused nature, squinting, believing that it might have been his eyes deceiving him. The girl from his 9 a.m. lecture could not possibly be about to snog his bandmate.
Impossible.
Her eyes widened, head turning immediately when hearing her name fall from his lips.
“Brian, hey!”
“Wait, you two know each other?”
Ignoring Roger’s (panicked) question, Brian walked over, a look of amazement still prevalent in his features. She moved from Roger’s side over to Brian, giving him a side hug, Bri’s arm resting on her shoulders.
“I see you’ve met Y/n. She’s in my astronomy class.”
She smiled brightly as the neon signs lining the downtown district of bars and restaurants alike, meeting Brians gaze.
“Yup, got to love Dr. Martin’s lectures.” She chuckled, the tall man next to her doing the same.
Picking up on Roger’s absolutely bewildered appearance, still taking in the situation unfolding in front of him, Brian took the liberty of initiating another conversation.
“So, Y/n, did you see the show tonight?”
She frowned, crossing her arms.
“Wanted to, but no, got caught up in the library. I have my final for statistics on Thursday, or else I would have been there.” She locked eyes with Roger, giving him a soft smile. Suddenly changing her demeanor, she reached into her bag she always seemed to have with her, pulling out those cheap cigarettes and her Zippo. She lit one of the sticks, inhaling.
“In fact, I heard your drummer was incredible, so I thought I would try to see him in action tonight.” Her gaze never left Rogers as she conversed, her mouth pressed in a line, the rest of her face completely neutral.
“But you’ve seen us before Y/n, he’s been with the band for quite some time.”
“I mean, I wanted to see him with a fresh pair of eyes, a different perspective, I guess.”
Still mildly confused, Brain shook his head and muttered something like “Right, okay” to which Y/n softly smiled at before dropping the cigarette from her hand. Barefoot, she couldn’t reach down to step on it, have the sparks die out under her toes.
“Could one of you get that, please?”
Roger nodded immediately, his boot finding its way quickly, the toe of it making a circular motion. His eyes stayed on Y/n, as had hers before. And despite the bustling city around them, Hell, even despite Brian’s perplexed stare, it felt oddly intimate, as if they were locked onto each other’s view (not that they were complaining).
But they weren’t, as she proved mere seconds later, abruptly bidding them goodbye and heading the opposite direction.
The pair of boys watched her as she went, heads tilted and jaws dropped to where if their mothers were present, they would be scolded to “close their mouths before they catch flies in there!”.
“That’s her, you know.” Roger commented bluntly, slightly shaking his head and then popping his lip.
Brian took a moment, turning toward his friend, stuttering.
“As in, her, her? Y/n is mystery girl?” He laughed, shaking his head in disbelief. “Yeah, well, good luck with that, Rog.”
“Why would I need that, Brian?” He challenged, putting his hands on his hips, lifting his chin. Brain kept his assumed position, moving his hand to scratch at his neck.
‘Well, I’m sure if you hang out around her enough, you’ll find out.”
Rather than shouting out at him, asking him what the Hell he meant, as he really wanted to, Roger paid Bri no attention, not even giving him a second look before under his breath saying “I’ll see you later”, and in what Brian considered to be a quite shocking turn of events, bolting off in the direction Y/n had gone.
He ignored the shouts from Brian, ignored the judgmental stares and loud whispers of those who recognized him from the band. He no longer cared about keeping his ‘cool reputation’, not when she was so close.
“Is that Roger Taylor?”, “Oi, isn’t that the drummer from the band at the pub?”, “Hey, why’s he buggin’ out?” all flooded his ears, usually followed by what seemed to be snickering, making a desperate attempt to cloud his mind from his self-assigned mission. But it was no use, as he was set on catching up to her. In fact, she was so close he swore he could smell the mixed scent that was uniquely her, smoke and her perfume.
He hollered her name, God, he yelled it till his throat was hoarse, just ‘cause he could. He loved the way it rolled off his tongue, he loved the fact he even had learned it to begin with, and that alone was probably why he adored it so much.
She heard his cries, turning where she stood and tilting her head.
“Roger? What on Earth are you doing?”
He finally met her, bent over on his hands and knees, breath lost in totality. She placed a concerned hand on his sweaty head, combing through his chocolate locks. He would have shivered at the feeling, if he had the energy. Rather, he looked up with the goofiest smile she’d ever seen, resembling a golden retriever, or german shepherd perhaps, in human form.
‘D’you wanna go somewhere with me? Hang out a bit?”
She nodded, holding out a hand.
“Lead the way.”
-
“Mom and Dad want me to be some kind of a scientist, study the stars.”
“Yeah? And what do you think about that.”
She tilted her head, shifting her position.
“I’m not quite sure. I wouldn’t be against it, that I know. The stars are beautiful, but they aren’t where my heart lies, I guess.”
He turned to face her, their noses almost touching. She could feel his breath fanning over her face, and the proximity sent butterflies through her stomach.
“I want to be an actress.” She all but whispered, turning her attention back to the full night sky and the wonders that hung in it.
“An actress, huh?”
She only hummed a confirmation, moving her left hand to pick at the cool grass under her palms.
“I could see that. You, I mean, on the big screens.”
She turned, and Roger swore he had never seen anyone smile so big before in his life.
“Really?”
His own smile grew, and she nodded vigorously, the two of them beginning to laugh. He pulled her closer by her shoulders, unaware of where the conversation would lead.
“I’ll go to New York. You’ll see me on billboards in Times Square.”
“Well, that’s nice to know. I’ll just be a lone dentist somewhere, while you forget all about me, having lavish parties and such. Whatever it is that famous people do.” His voice was obviously joking, melodramatic was written all over him, yet Y/n couldn’t help but still feel a sliver of guilt.
She hit his arm, rolling back over to face him. She still had a smile glued onto her lips, both of their eyes crinkling at the edges.
“Oh, shut up, will you? Smile will make it big, and we’ll meet again, when you’re on tour. Or perhaps if I’m filming where you’re performing! We’ll have those nights to ourselves, It’ll be a secret rendezvous.”
She turned to her back again, finding his hand on the damp green, her heart beating a million miles a second as she reached for it, slowly entangling her fingers in his.
“The papers will write about us, Rog, when they find out. ‘Famous actress Y/n Y/l/n seen leaving a hotel with renowned drummer Roger Taylor’ is what the headlines will say. God, what a scene we’ll cause.” Her eyes were full of  excitement as she spoke, her heart feeling like it was so filled with glee that it could soar out of her chest.
“Well, I wanna know the specifics.” Roger sat up, pulling her up with him, she giggled, and the brunette wrapped a hand around her waist. She sat beside him, the streetlight by the backroad she had led them on illuminating her like a silhouette. She bit her lip and grinned, tilting her head up to better exam Rogers angelic features.
“Are you gonna have some bloke waiting for you at home, hmm? Waiting for you while you conquer the world, only for you to break his poor heart?”
“Nah.” Her answer was immediate, her eyes honest as she spoke. “Only a cactus. He’ll be my only friend. I hear it’s lonely in Hollywood, Roger.” He raised his eyebrows briefly at this, choosing his next words.
“You’ll have me?”
His head turned to look at her, admiring the way the pale moonlight illuminated her, the artificial light from the streetlamps not doing her neverending beauty and justice, in his opinion. Their eyes seemed sporadic, searching each other's faces for signs of what they were doing, possibly being wrong, but they found nothing, as expected.
The yearning had become all too much for the inspired pair, and it felt like at last, all they could do, the only thing they could do, was kiss.
So they did. Roger took her face in his hands, closing his beautiful eyes, his eyelashes barely brushing against hers. He leaned forward, joining them together, finding that they immediately moved in a perfect synchronization. They were like two sides of the same coin, and that seemed to be particularly evident in that moment. By the contrast of their lips, or perhaps the aspirations of their careers becoming somehow just a little bit clearer.
But it didn’t matter, none of it did. Not in the long run. So they pulled apart, chests heaving and faces painted with childish grins.
It was quiet then, only the crickets and the howling wind could be heard. But she liked it that way, preferred it, actually. So quiet, in fact, that Roger was able to fall fast asleep, Y/n lying comfortably in his arms. She stared at the stars, then back to his sleeping figure, her mind unable to come to a consensus on what on God's green Earth she was to do.
She settled for placing a kiss on his jaw, closing her eyes. His eyes only fluttered, never waking completely. She muttered something like “See you, rockstar.” against it, before standing up and walking away, only turning back once to see his sleeping form one more time.
That was the last time for 6 years that he would see Y/n Y/l/n. See her in person, at least.
When he woke up the next morning, he was confused to say the least, wondering why Y/n didn’t wake him, mostly wondering where she had even gone. He looked around himself, patting the green grass beneath him, as if she somehow was invisible and he had missed her upon initial glance. He had shouted for her, his throat still hurting from when he did the same thing only 12 hours previous.
He had felt out of control, like the one he had been chasing had just slipped through his fingers (which it had). He had remembered asking Bri, day after day, if he had seen her in class, even just seen her around in general. Everytime the answer was the same.
“No Roger”, “I’m sorry, Roger”, “Not today, Roger”. It was a horrible, predictable pattern, that he had enough of. He was supposed to recover from it quickly, bounce back from her almost immediately, as there was basically nothing to bounce back from.
But he couldn’t, and due to such reasons, he supposed he finally understood what Brian had said, or warned, that night before he had gone chasing after her. He got it, in his own sad way.
And over the years, she slowly faded to the back of the drummer's mind, behind groupies, and songs, and shows, and such, just for her to resurface again any time he saw her on a billboard, just as she had promised. But he never let it show, outwardly at least.
He had made Brian swear not to tell the others, never to breathe a word of it to Deaky or Fred. He was embarrassed by it, for some reason, and that’s why he guessed he forbade him from speaking of it. But how long can you keep a silly college secret from your nosy bandmates? Apparently 6 years, tops, for Roger Taylor.
“Alright, everyone. Gather ‘round, I’ve got a surprise.” Freddie had said, his grumbling bunch of friends tired from their day’s work. Though, they usually had grown to appreciate and look forward to Fred’s “surprises”, today everyone was just a tad bit too grumpy to try (a certain Roger Taylor in particular, let’s call it foreshadowing).
“Oh, stop your moaning and whining, please, I promise this will be good!” the eccentric frontman had said, something hidden behind his back in his left hand.
Rog ran a hand through his, now, blond hair, exhaling in such a way that made Freddie slant his eyes, before giving in and rolling them at his flippant behavior.
“What’s going on, Fred?” Brian had been the brave soul to ask, stepping forward and then looking away momentarily to place his guitar onto a stand waiting not so far away.
“I thought you’d never ask.” He replied, jumping down from his place on the risers, removing his hand from his back and holding out what seemed to be 4 tickets to something. He walked down the loosely formed line of men, putting one in each of their extended palms. Roger, at the end of their formation of sorts, became concerned when Brian had burst out laughing, looking to his right, being met with Roger’s face of confusion.
Freddie, possibly more confused than Roger, pressing the piece of thick paper into his hand, his gaze falling onto Brian, who now had tears in his eyes.
“Bri, what’s so… funny. Shit.” He had looked down to the slip, the only words he needed to read to know he was absolutely screwed, being “Jaws” and “Premiere”.
Now, anybody who knew anything, knew that Y/n Y/l/n was going to be in the film that was said to become the blockbuster of the summer, playing the role of Ellen Brody (though a few had said she was far too young for the job). She had been an overnight success in the film industry, gaining popularity from the 1973 film, ‘The Sting’, playing Billie.
And Roger had watched ‘The Sting’, and you can imagine his surprise when Y/n had sauntered onto screen, red lipped and fresh faced. (He had to admit, she looked great in a suit.)
After that, the assault on Roger’s fragile heart was never ending.
Billboards began to pop up even more frequently as she was to star in more films, and it seemed no matter where he was touring, he couldn’t escape her. Whether it was posters, her face printed on newspapers, adverts in about every place business was done for one of her films, he felt like he was being followed. He had even seen an article about her in a magazine, and when he had flipped the page he was greeted with Queen’s smiling faces.
He had stopped watching them after ‘American Graffiti’.
So, he figured that this one wouldn’t be any different, and he simply planned on ignoring said film until he caved, doing his best to avoid her on the silver screen and anywhere else, which hadn’t been too difficult until this point (not).
But this? This was a whole new level of being royally fucked.
“Brian, Rog, something you want to share with the rest of the class?” John had asked, cocking his head and propping his legs up on the coffee table in front of him. Brian began to speak, wrapping an arm around Roger’s shoulders, the shorter man looking up at him with angry fire burning in his eyes.
“Well, I’m honestly quite excited. The film industry has always seemed very intriguing, actually, and I’m looking forward to meeting new people. Rog?”
“No.”
“No?” John repeated, “No, what?” He waved a hand around, trying to understand what Roger’s problem was.
“I just- I don’t- I knew-”
“Roger had a fling with Y/n Y/l/n and she broke his heart.” Brain blurted out, Roger turning and immediately smacking him upside his curly head of hair. He regarded an “Ouch!” before him and the rest of the boys burst out laughing, the drummer not included in that demographic, fuming.
“Rog, darling, when was this? How did we not know?” Freddie managed to breathe out, sitting down next to Deaky on the studio sofa. He crossed his hands and ankles, his full attention turned towards Roger who really, really didn’t wanna have to do this, and who really, really was gonna get Brian back for this later. Would he untune all his guitars? Unplug his amp during rehearsals, perhaps put hair remover in his shampoo? But, that would have to wait until after he was forced to spill his 6 year secret.
“It was in 69-”
“69?!” Freddie had cried out. “It’s been 6 bloody years? And you didn’t think to tell us?”
“Well I didn’t really see a reason it would be necessary to tell you all! In fact, I probably wouldn’t have told you ever if this bloke didn’t have such a big mouth!”
“Hey, watch it.” Brian weighed in, crossing his arms and fluttering his eyes.
“Look, Roger I really don’t see the issue here. We go to the premiere, you just keep a low profile and ignore Y/n, problem solved.” John cut in, trying to be helpful.
Keyword: trying.
“And how exactly will I do that?”
“We will behave, I promise.” Freddie added, though Roger seemed to be having a difficult time believing him or his claim for the others. So Roger only scoffed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Yeah, I’m sure you will.”
-
Cameras were flashing brightly, reporters and such were shouting loudly, and Y/n was already exhausted.
Her red lips were painted like DeAngelo had done it himself, and her hair was styled just the way she liked. The heels she was wearing per request of her stylist, though, were horrible. They looked lovely, yes, but they were digging into her poor ankles, and she still had to wear them for who knew how long. She didn’t complain, though, she wouldn’t dream of it.
She would just continue her slow walk down the carpet, a sultry smile on her face. The black fabric of the gown she was wearing fit her beautifully, snug in all the right places.
She sure hoped it was, at least. Especially because she knew that he would be there.
Roger Taylor, the blessed drummer that managed to make a home in the backburner of her mind, his success coming as no surprise to the actress. She had loved every one of their records, and rather than running from his work like Roger had, she opted for going straight to the record shop, purchasing any and every Queen album in her sight. When she had checked out, the very shocked cashier had made some remark, asking something about “you a fan?”
She had thought about it for a moment, thinking back to all those years ago when Roger had asked the same thing. She smiled, shrugging.
“Yeah, you could say that.”
So when she had worked up the courage to invite the entire band to the premiere (on behalf of Spielberg, of course) she was a nervous wreck to find out they had accepted. Really, ask anyone who had any contact with her in the time from then to the premiere, they could testify that her moodiness had risen like a hot air balloon.
Now, though, she was kind of regretting that she had invited them, looking over to the sharp looking bunch, all dressed to the nines. She scanned her eyes over them, catching a wave from Brian, which she gladly returned with an enthusiastic smile. Bri then tapped Roger on the shoulder to alert him of Y/n’s acknowledgment, which resulted in Y/n’s eyes widening to the size of moons.
She turned her head, and worked to finish up her walk of the carpet just a tad bit faster. It all seemed to be for nothing, though, as in the dark of the theater for the premiere itself, she saw the seat next to her be filled, a presence filling her senses.
“Miss me?”
-
Their hands were all over each other, not truly caring if the tabloids caught a glimpse, just needing to make up for lost time.
They had stumbled into the golden hotel both her and Queen were staying in, the swinging doors of the New York establishment blowing a cool gust of wind in their direction.
They merely laughed at the minor interruption, their teeth clashing as they both smiled momentarily. It was soon forgotten, though, both of them having much more pressing matters in their minds.
They only came to a cease in the elevator, some old couple who most definitely did not care about whatever pressing issue the two of them felt they had, standing off to the side. (Y/n could swear she saw the older woman smirk and wink at her, to which she cocked her head and smiled.)
Once back into the safe confines of Y/n’s suite, they resumed like they had never even stopped, hands gravitating towards the others form as if they were opposite magnets, unable to be separated for too long.
“You’ve driven me crazy, you know that, right? “
She giggled and bit her lip, looking up into his eyes, their foreheads pressed together.
“Mmm? I’d hope so.”
He pulled away, shaking his head, blond locks following suit.
“Really, you have no idea. I haven’t been able to shake you from my head. You’re everywhere.”
Her excitement could barely be contained at his confession of sorts, chest heaving, trying to stay calm.
“Yeah, that was the plan.”
Roger shook his head with a dry chuckle, looking to his feet and back to her when she had tilted his head up, her finger resting on his jaw.
“Well, are you into it?” She questioned, grabbing his hand and pulling their clasped fingers in between their chests, her eyes hazy with hope.
“Yeah.” He titled his head, feigning a pondering look. “You could say I’m kinda into it.”
“Shut it!”
“Make me.”
She rolled her eyes at his stupidly provocative suggestion, and he only laughed, the two of them falling onto the plush comfort of the bed in a meshed flurry for the remainder of the night.
And if you couldn’t guess what could have possibly happened next, the black dress ended up in a pooled up pile next to the bed that night, right next to the heels that finally she had the pleasure of discarding.
The next morning, it was unlike the one 6 years ago, as when Roger woke up, he was overjoyed to find a sleeping Y/n, laying on his chest with hair splayed around her. And he had to say, he usually wasn’t much of a cuddler, but for some reason he felt so incredibly endeared, that anything else wouldn’t have sufficed.
He ran small circles on the exposed skin of her bare shoulder, the comforter concealing the rest of her limbs that were tangled up with Roger’s.
When she stirred, Roger sat up, fondly watching as her eyes fluttered open and her tongue ran across her dried lips, still carrying a hint of last night's red pigment. She looked next to her, her eyeline matching up with the covered skin of Roger’s lap.
She sighed, shifting her head to rest on his thighs as her feet dangled off of the bed. One of Roger’s hands came up to softly massage the top of her head, the other against the headboard, behind his neck. She stared at the ceiling, an unreadable expression creeping its way to her features.
“We were jacked up last night.” Roger’s voice cut through the silence they shared, deeper in the late morning than she had heard before.
“Correction, you were jacked up.”
“Whatever.”
They laughed, silence soon taking over once again. Roger sighed, closing his ever tired eyes.
“Are we gonna pay for this?”
She scoffed, inhaling deeply before reaching over to the nightstand, grabbing her carton of cigarettes. He noticed they were the same brand from college, a small smile making its way to his face at the thought.
She first lit hers, then lighting a second one for the man occupying her king sized bed (though she wasn’t even slightly upset by this, quite the opposite). She handed it to him, sticking her own between her lips and sitting up, straddling where her head had been minutes before.
She leaned forward, so close their noses were to the point where they were nearly touching. She took the cigarette from her lips, blowing the smoke to the left of Rog in the direction of the large balcony overlooking Times Square. She turned her attention back to him, though it had never really left, tilting her head.
“Do you regret it?”
“No.” The answer came immediately, no careful consideration or pondering needed.
“Right.” She removed herself from him, standing and taking the sheet with her, letting it cover her like a renaissance dress. She walked over to the balcony, leaning against the frame of the double doors. She took another drag, an adoring smile spreading across her face.
“Then there’s your answer.”
She paused, Roger tilted his head, his brows lifting.
“Of course we will.”

The warmth under the covers made you extremely inclined to ignore your alarm, along with the heaviness of your body. Your eyelids refused to open as your conscience flowed back into your body, the calm serenity of sleep morphing into dread. The high pitch of the alarm clock never failed to annoy you to the point where you woke up; though, that was the point, wasn’t it? You lifted the covers, taking away the enclosure of warmth you so badly wanted to stay under.
Grudgingly, you dragged yourself to the bathroom, rubbing your eyes as you filled the cup with water. You quickly brushed your teeth and headed downstairs. Your mom had gone to work already, leaving out the bread for you to toast. Still somewhat half-asleep, you didn’t even bother to toast it. It didn’t matter, as long as you got something in your stomach, so that you wouldn’t starve to death before lunch.
When you finished, you half-heartedly got your feet out the door, on the way to school. You lived near, so it wasn’t much to walk. The route was the same as always, and you focused on the sidewalk. Your brain refused to handle anything more complicated, and so this was what you were going to think about as you made your way to the destination you did not want to be at today. Sometimes, some pebbles between blocks of sideblock seemed more interesting than others. You didn’t know why, no one knew why, it was just the vibe that made it different. Most people, even you, wouldn’t notice small things like that normally; maybe it was the sleepiness that allowed you to see it.
It wasn’t long until you arrived at school. You headed to your shoe locker and changed your shoes like any other day, and arrived at your classroom. You waited a few minutes for class to start as usual, and you took the time to take a quick nap. You were awoken by the homeroom bell, signaling that the school day had started.
Class was especially boring; you didn’t know if it was the sleepiness or whether the topic was just boring. At any rate, you had something else to think about. You had intended to join another club, and you had one in mind. Your old one, (club of your choice), had disbanded this year due to a lack of members. There were basically you and (b/f/n) in the club, and having only two people in the club wasn’t enough, sadly. So, you were going to apply to the manager of the boy’s volleyball club. You could definitely become popular when you did- there was an awfully high chance, but that wasn’t really the reason for joining. Many would say you had a crush on Miya Atsumu, which really wasn’t true, but he did seem like a bit of a fun person to just hang around. The real reason was that (b/f/n)’s uncle was their coach, and he was looking for a manager this year. You almost thought that it might be a good idea for (b/f/n) to become their manager, but you then remembered that she had miserably failed at the job and quit in your first year.
You doodled on your paper as you half-listened to your teacher give her lecture. You took minimal notes, as your hands were busy filling the page with sketches instead of words. It wasn’t like it really mattered though; the topic was pretty easy for you. By the time class had ended, your paper had been entirely filled with a few good sketches, a few miserably failed. You didn’t mind though; it was better than trying to not fall asleep at the lecture.
You went through the day, waking up at sometime a bit before lunch, but then got sleepy again after. It was just a thing that happened after lunch. It happened after dinner too; after you ate, your motivation hid and you didn’t want to do any work. You wondered why it didn’t happen at breakfast too; perhaps it was because you were already feeling in such a way.
After school, you made your way to the volleyball gym, to inquire about the position. You didn’t know much too about volleyball particularly, and you still had time to choose a club for this year. This was the most interesting part of the day, and it was quite interesting to say the least. You had always loved watching sports games; they were exciting, but you had always been curious to see what exactly happened behind the scenes.
You walked on your way there, appreciating a side of the school you hadn’t really been too. Your club room for the previous two years had been on the opposite side, and you had never really gone this way. It was a nice change of view; you could definitely get used to this. As you made your way near to the door, ready with questions about the position in your mind, you could hear a few yells from the same people, and the door burst open. You could feel the two heavy bodies accidently hit you, and an unfamiliar “pop” could be heard. It happened so fast, so unexpectedly, you kind of just sat there on the floor. The yells had stopped, and you could see two players looking at you, with a face that said, “Oops… that didn’t really happen… yeah…”
You instantly felt the pain appear, your facial expression showing it. It’ll go away soon. You attempted to stand, and you miserably failed. One of the twins, Miya Osamu, gave you a hand and a “Ya okay?”, and you took it, still failing to stand. The pain was still there, and the longer it stayed, the less welcome it was.
“Ya better not have hurt someone,” a voice came out of the gym. You turned to see Kita Shinsuke, one of your classmates. Oh, he’s in the club. Cool. You were still sitting on the floor, and by this time, you accepted that it was difficult to get up. You heard the twins with their muffled “I’m sorry,” and they had completely calmed down from their argument.
“I’m so sorry about that,” he approached you. “Let me take ya to the nurse’s office.”

you don’t need to pretend to be someone you’re not
Pairings: Geralt of Rivia x Jaskier, Yennefer x Triss Summary: Yennefer talks to the bard, and Geralt talks to Roach, then gets told off and apologies (kind of) to Jaskier. Notes: mentions of injury, recovery, self-doubt, ptsd  masterlist  ||  part one  ||  part two  ||  part three  ||  part five
Tumblr media
“I think he’d like to talk to you”
Geralt was dragged out of his thoughts by Ciri, the girl standing in the doorway, a small frown on her face. The weak smell of salt hung around her, the scent betraying the recently shed tears.
“Why were you crying?” he asked instead, not wanting to talk about Jaskier just yet.
Ciri huffed a laugh, “Nothing bad. Jaskier and I were just talking and it reminded me of home”
Geralt hummed, awkwardly opening his arms, silently offering comfort. A smile grew on the princess’ face, the girl accepting the hug happily. As she stepped into his arms he could smell Jaskier’s subtle scent amongst hers. The Witcher repressed a smile, the thought of Jaskier comforting his child surprise creating a warm feeling in his chest.
“I can tell he’s scared” she eventually mumbled, cheek resting against his shoulder, “I think he would feel better knowing you’re here to protect us”
“I’m not so sure he wants to see me after...”
He trailed off, throat tightening at the thought of the mountain.
“He didn't tell them anything” Ciri said, pulling back from the hug, eyes blazing with confidence, “If he hated you he wouldn’t have resisted and lived through all of that torture to protect you - to protect us”
Geralt nodded wordlessly, a small spark of hope flaring deep in his gut.
“I better get to Yen, but please go and talk to him”
“I will, just … later”
Ciri nodded, a soft look on her face, and left the room, leaving Geralt to his thoughts once again.
Sighing, the Witcher stood up, making his way outside and to the stables, greeting Roach with a tired smile.
“Hey there girl,” he said, hand resting gently on her nose, “sorry I didn't come to check on you last night. Everything was still up in the air about Jaskier”
Roach snorted, bumping her muzzle against his chest lightly, pushing a small laugh out of the man.
“Yes, yes, he’s fine now. He needs to rest for a few more days and then we’ll be able to move”
Another snort, this time accompanied with a heavier hit.
“Yes, I need to ask him. I will... just not right now”
Tumblr media
The bard hummed absentmindedly, eyes fixed on the ceiling.
He still hadn't left the bed, almost scared of feeling the weakness in his body as he tried to stay standing. Not to mention the mirror he could see in the corner of the room.
Maybe it was narcissistic of him, but Jaskier was terrified to take the first look in the mirror. He knew that his body was tarnished; he could see the residual bruises on his chest and stomach and the whipping scars on his back ached every time he moved. He didn't want to think about what his face looked like.
‘Little birdy, so pretty. Without your looks, what are you?’
His shaking hands never reached his face, too scared to check the damage. Without his good looks, his career as a bard was almost certainly finished.
He shivered as thoughts of returning to Lettenhove crossed his mind, his father’s disapproving glare breaking him down to the bare bones of his being, reverting him back to the ghost that once roamed the manor’s halls.
“Well you look positively ghastly”
Jaskier startled, hissing in pain at the agony that rippled up his back, wincing as he manoeuvred himself into a sitting position.
“Ah, hello witch. I had a feeling I could feel your bad vibes permeating these walls”
Yennefer moved towards him, looking as intimidating as ever.
“I see you haven't lost your spirit” she commented, looking at him with thinly veiled pity in her violet eyes, “I’m surprised you haven't tried to escape yet”
The bard scoffed, gesturing vaguely at his body, “I couldn't even if I tried”
She hummed thoughtfully, eyes wandering around the room, letting the silence stew uncomfortably.
Jaskier sighed, breaking it as she wanted him to, “I guess I owe you my thanks, I doubt the Witcher could’ve found another sorceress that would help him without your assistance”
“So he’s the Witcher now, is he?”
“Well he certainly isn't mine, and last I was told he wanted nothing to do with me. I assume that includes losing first name privilege” Jaskier frowned, finally finding the courage to meet her eyes, “I thought you’d be happy - me not following you two around like a … what was it you called me? Oh, right, a lost puppy”
Now it was time for Yennefer to frown, stepping closer to the bard, “We traded barbs, yes, but that never meant that I wanted you gone”
Jaskier huffed in disbelief, “Be careful there, dear witch. You almost sound like you care about my wellbeing”
Yen’s silence was damning.
“If it’s any consolation” Jaskier offered, breaking another bout of unsteady silence, “I never hated you. In fact -” he broke of, a weak laugh escaping his lips, “I rather admired you”
Yennefer’s lips tipped into a small smile, the expression softer than anything he had ever seen aimed at him. He knew what it was, an acceptance of the unspoken apology, and even a mutual respect.
As she turned to leave, she glanced at the mirror, “You’re going to have to look at some point” she stated, the straightforwardness oddly comforting, “but no matter what you see, you have four people who are here to support you. This is not the end, bard”
She left before he could reply, his throat closed as unwanted tears rushed to his eyes.
Tumblr media
“For Melitele’s sake, talk to the bard”
Geralt tensed, hand continuing his stroking of Roach’s nose as he purposefully avoided Yen’s gaze, “He doesn't want to see me”
The sorceress let out an aggravated sigh, stepping into the stable, “He thinks that you hate him”
Geralt’s hand faltered, “What?”
“His head is messy, and none of it is positive right now Geralt”
Geralt whirled around to face her, exasperation clear in his features, “Yen - what have I said about reading minds -”
“I know! But I was in the room for a solid five minutes without him noticing, and he was just staring at the ceiling, looking like he was giving up. I had to check that he wasn't thinking of doing anything stupid”
The implication sent a chill deep into Geralt’s chest, the Witcher taking a menacing step towards her, “Jaskier would never do that”
She scoffed angrily, “Oh please Geralt, don't try that posturing bullshit with me. He’s just been tortured. It’s a perfectly reasonable mindset to be in - not that he is. Jaskier... he’s struggling and he needs a friend”
A growl built in Geralt’s chest, the man beginning to pace, “Why do you want to help him all of a sudden. I remember you trying to get me to leave him behind on more than one occasion”
Yen’s frown deepened, the witch crossing her arms defiantly, “I don't wish death on him. If I did, why would I have helped you save him? Why would I have healed him?”
Geralt stood silently, his eyes averted to the ground.
“Get your shit together” she spat, leaving the stables in a flash of black velvet.
He stood there for what seemed like hours, unmoving until Roach shoved him towards the doors of the stable.
“Okay, okay, I get it”
Tumblr media
Jaskier stayed staring at the door for a long time, the scent of lilac and gooseberries feeling oddly calming. Before he could tail dive about the implications of that, a flash of white in his peripheral vision caused his body to tense.
“May I come in?”
The familiar cadence of Geralt’s voice sent almost imperceptible shivers down Jaskier’s spine, the bard nodding his silent assent.
At his signal, Geralt stepped into the room, his imposing figure seemingly looming over him even from the other side of the room.
“I wasn't sure if you wanted to see me”
Jaskier huffed a laugh, finally moving his head to face the man, “I think you’ve got that the wrong way around, Witcher. If I remember rightly it was you that wished to never see me again”
Jaskier watched with barely repressed shock as a slight flinch flashed across the Witcher’s face at the harshness of his words, “What I said on the mountain...”
He trailed off, at a loss for words, eyes looking lost.
Refusing to take pity on his old friend, Jaskier moved so he was sat up straighter, clearing his throat purposefully.
“Which part? The bit where you blamed all of your recent life choices on me, or the part where you wished for life to take me off of your hands? Or perhaps do you mean when you called me a shit shoveller?” The bard’s voice stayed level, the words eerily devoid of emotion.
He paused for a moment, taking a deep breath, before looking directly into Geralt’ eyes, “I tried my hardest to be a friend to you. I gave you the best years of my life - twenty two years travelling by your side - and what do I get in return? Tossed aside like I was nothing more than a stone stuck in the heel of your shoe”
“Jaskier-”
“No. I am talking now, Witcher. I tried taking myself off of your hands. I stayed away from you, travelled in the opposite direction whenever I heard news of your whereabouts. And when they caught me -” his voice cracks then, the emotion finally breaking through the façade, “I stayed loyal to you. I would’ve happily died, I thought I had in all honesty, and granted your wish because the thought of hurting you is worse than death”
Geralt stepped forward, chest clenching with the unspoken confession lying between the bard’s words. He halted as Jaskier lifted a hand, a clear sign that he wanted space.
“You may have never called me a friend, Geralt of Rivia, but you were my everything” He took another steadying breath, “When I am healed enough I will take my leave, I know when I’m not wanted and I would hate to get between you and your witch once again”
The thought of Jaskier leaving sent a sharp spike of fear through Geralt’s body, his throat clenching as words of protest bubbled.
In the end, it was the look of utter defeat on Jaskier’s face that set the words in motion, the walls that Geralt kept up coming crumbling down at his feet as he began to attempt to fix what was broken.
“Jaskier, you’re not my friend -”
“Oh thank you so much for that, really that’s lovely to hear -”
Geralt shook his head desperately, moving to kneel at the side of the bed, looking into his eyes pleadingly, “No - you’re not my friend. You were always so much more to me than that and I -”
He cut himself off, a frustrated noise escaping him as he searched for the right words, his hands stressing through his hair, tangling a section into a big knot.
“I - You - It was always just me and Roach, but then you came along and it was different. You looked at me and didn't smell of fear - you trusted me - and I -”
A light touch to his left hand had Geralt looking back up, the bard watching him with tears in his eyes. He stayed silent as he gently guided Geralt’s hands away from his hair, tutting at the tangled mess he made.
“You never were good with words, were you, Wolf”
The sound of the nickname leaving Jaskier’s lips was like a switch, his body relaxing, eyes finally locking with his.
An understanding passed between the two men, hands lightly entwined.
“I didn't need words with you” Geralt confessed quietly, hoping Jaskier would understand what he was trying to say.
Jaskier smiled, a small hesitant smile, but a smile nonetheless.
“Yes, I suppose you didn't”
They sat there like that for a few minutes, letting the familiar touch soothe old wounds. The silence was nice, comfortable in a way that Geralt had only ever felt with Jaskier.
“I hope you know I haven't fully forgiven you yet” the bard eventually said, “I’m expecting a full apology one of these days”
Geralt nodded solemnly, bringing their entwined hands against his chest, “You deserve nothing less”
The tentative smile returned, a flash of the old Jaskier returning to his eyes, a depth of mischief returning and pushing out the emptiness that had clouded the once bright blue iris’.

Kookish Enough? (Kiara x Rafe)
A/N: Okay, so I truly believe in the theory that the anon is mentioning and I literally could not agree more. I mean, just from the short interactions between Rafe and Kie there was definitely a vibe that gave off the impression that something went down between them during Kie’s Kook year. I changed the request just a bit so I hope you don’t mind! I just felt like the changes fit the story better. Also, ngl I don’t really like this much but it was the best I could do tbh.
Pairing: Kie x Rafe, Kie x Pogues (platonic)
Word Count: 3,410
Request: hi! idk if ur still taking requests but one of my favorite fan theories in this fandom is that some shit went down with Kie and Rafe during her kook year, so I was wondering if u could write a fic where maybe they were dating but he pressured her to sleep with him and that’s why their relationship ended? or maybe he just hurt her in some way and then the pogues find out about it like when she apologizes to them after her kook year and what happened between her and Rafe is the reason she stopped talking to the pogues? sorry if this makes no sense. u can make it a ship if u want but I’d love it if it was just the pogues all being friends cause I loved that in comfort. also, u totally don’t have to write this if u don’t want, but I saw that other ask where the anon asked if u could post their ask and just let them know so I would appreciate it if u could do that, haha ok that's all thank u very much :)
Summary: What went down during Kie’s Kook year? Why did she stop talking to the Pogues? And why does Rafe have anything to do with it? The answer is pretty simple: Kiara was trying to be Kookish enough to be accepted.
Warnings: Rafe pressuring Kie into having sex with him
KOOKISH ENOUGH?
Ever since Kiara had become friends with Sarah, she was being teased a lot less by the rest of the Kooks. That did not mean that the teasing stopped. Especially when it came from Rafe Cameron and his group of friends.
See, Kiara had only become friends with Sarah very recently, and she felt as if her whole world changed because of it. Long gone were the hallway tauntings and the lonely lunch periods. Now, these times were occupied by hanging around Kildare’s Kook Princess and her friends, enjoying the feel of popularity and fitting in.
However, Kiara mostly kept this relationship inside of the school walls, as she would spend her free time with her other friends: the Pogues. She didn’t like mixing her two groups of friends (mainly because fights were sure to sprout between them), which left her no choice of hanging out with them separately.
Rafe, on the other hand, was busy with his own friends. He had never even bothered to tease Kiara during school before, but when she suddenly showed up at his house perched on his sister’s arm, this quickly changed. Kiara was known around school for hanging around Pogues, and when Rafe noticed his sister hanging out with a Kook traitor (in other words, Kie), he knew he had to do something to stop it.
And so began the constant teasing and tormenting from his part. However, no matter how much he would call Kie names, the dark-skinned girl would never budge. She would show no emotion on her face as he would tease her, which ultimately pissed him off. Why was this girl, of all people, the only person that didn’t seem to be bothered by him? Or anyone, for that matter?
Little did the blond know that Kiara actually hated it. She didn’t like feeling under attack, and the boy would usually do just that. This did not mean she would pull away from her friends. She tried to ignore Rafe as much as possible while maintaining her relationships with Sarah and the Pogues, despite all the teasing she would receive.
Kiara was strong, Rafe would give her that. And this only made her want to turn away more. But, one day after months of teasing from his part, Kiara lashed back at him.
“Hey, Kook traitor,” Rafe had called out to her that afternoon when she was exiting the school building. “Not hanging out with my sister today? Leaving her for the Pogues?”
Kiara only rolled her eyes as she hiked her backpack higher on her shoulder and tried to walk away. Rafe had been having a particularly bad day that afternoon, which made anger boil when Kie didn’t turn around to pay him attention. He latched onto her shoulder, spinning her around. He didn’t expect her to finally talk back to him.
“What do you want, Rafe? Or are you here just to continue bothering me?” she spat out at him.
“I don’t want much,” Rafe began answering. “Just for you to stop hanging around my sister.”
“What’s it to you?” the girl replied. “It’s none of your business who Sarah hangs out with.”
“It is when she’s hanging around a Kook traitor.”
Kie was used to that term being used against her, so she didn’t even flinch. “So, what? You’re mad because, in your opinion, I’m not Kookish enough?”
Rafe hadn’t managed to nod back and spit out another angry reply as Kie turned around. “Grow up,” she said to him with finality.
Rafe’s blood boiled inside of his veins. How dare she talk to him like that? Who did she think she was?
Whatever Rafe told himself, he couldn’t deny the fact that Kie had slightly turned him on, and that he really wouldn’t mind that she continued to hang around his sister.
******************************************************************************************
When Kiara and Sarah had been best friends for about five months, the Camerons threw a party at their mansion. That weekend, their parents were absent (probably off to the Bahamas or something of that sort) which meant that the whole student body of Kook Academy was squished into their living room.
Kiara was dressed in a crop top and some shorts, which were both from a well-known designer. She had begun to wear the clothes that her mother would buy her so that she would fit in more with the Kooks she had recently befriended. Maybe, she had thought, that way Rafe would tease her less. However, if you asked her about her change of wardrobe, she would never admit it was because of Rafe bothering her, no. She would lie and say that she had realized how pretty all of the clothes were and that she was just being stubborn before by not wearing them.
Rafe had noticed this change in Kiara. Her clothes were also a little bit more revealing than before, and he couldn’t help but let his eyes wander on her exposed skin. He had started to bother the girl less, but he still hadn’t stopped. This was mainly due to the fact that he had seen her hanging around with the Pogues recently, and although it was jealousy he was feeling, he told himself he was mad at the fact that she was still a Kook traitor.
When they bumped into themselves that night, they were both on the dance floor. Rafe had accidentally bumped into the dark-skinned girl, which caused her to turn around and apologize to him. However, upon realizing who she had crashed with, she swallowed her apologies back, expecting him to let out some stupid remark about how she was a Kook traitor and not good enough to be Sarah’s friends. But Rafe remained silent. He was entranced by how good Kiara looked that night, and he noticed the makeup that surrounded her eyes and how her hair looked extra shiny.
Kiara almost scoffed. “No teasing this time?” she questioned. “Am I finally Kookish enough for you?”
Rafe rolled his eyes and then smiled a little, leaving the girl before him confused.
“Look, I’m sorry, okay? Can we just forget about everything that happened between us and be friends?”
Kiara crossed her arms across her chest while looking over Rafe’s stance. He seemed sincere. Meanwhile, Rafe did everything he could to not let his eyes flit towards the girl’s chest area.
“Fine,” Kiara finally said. “But only because you’re Sarah’s brother.”
Rafe broke out into a smile and held his hand out for her to shake. When her hand slipped through his, Rafe felt tingles travel up and down the length of his body, so he dragged the girl forward and pulled her into a dance. Kiara giggled as they began to twirl and move to the rhythm of whatever trashy song was sounding through the speakers.
They spent hours and hours on the dance floor, never letting go of each other. Kiara was, admittedly, having a good time with the blond Kook. She was happy she had forgiven him, charmed by his witty humor and good looks. Maybe he wasn’t as bad as she had thought.
All of a sudden the air between them became tense. The eye contact held between them was intense, and Kiara felt Rafe’s large hands pulling her closer to him by her waist. He was staring at Kie’s lips before looking up at her eyes as if asking for permission to kiss her. Kiara’s breathing was rapid and she felt herself grow nervous. Kiara had already had her first kiss before, but Rafe was a senior and a lot more experienced than she was. She worried that if they kissed she wouldn’t be able to live up to his expectations.
Suddenly, Rafe lurched forward and connected their lips. Everything surrounding them seemed to fade away, leaving them and the music and nothing else. Rafe kissed her tenderly, which surprised Kiara as she expected him to be rougher. When they broke apart they opened their eyes and shared a knowing look before smiling a bit. With that, Rafe dragged the girl away to his room.
They made out until the party was over.
*************************************************
Only two weeks after the party, Rafe and Kiara were dating. Secretly because of Sarah, but dating none the less. More than ever before Kiara was spending time at the Cameron mansion, sneaking away from Rafe’s sister to be able to meet him.
The relationship came almost at a perfect time for the pair. See, Rafe’s father was on his back more than ever because he was going to be graduating high school soon, which meant he was going to be getting involved with the family business. On the other hand, Kiara’s parents were happier than ever to see their child being acquainted with the Cameron family and spending less time with her previous friends.
Their relationship served as a “stress reliever” to both of them. Their secret make-out sessions (which would sometimes escalate a little) and their nights whispering to each other were times they cherished a lot. Kiara would tell him about what she went through before befriending Sarah as Rafe would tell her about his father and his issues with him.
They both became extremely emotionally invested in their relationship. Which wasn’t a bad thing. Well, most of the time it wasn’t a bad thing.
The Pogues noticed how Kiara was spending less and less time with them, and they questioned her about it.
“What’s up with you lately?” John B had asked the last time they took the boat out to the marsh with her.
“What do you mean?” she tried to avoid the topic by raising another question.
“You’ve been avoiding us recently,” Pope explained from where he eyes Kiara over his book. “Is it because of Sarah?”
“Sort of,” the girl said, unsure if she wanted to tell them about why exactly she was seeing the boys less.
“What do you mean ‘sort of’?” JJ inquired from where he was pulling a net full of fish from the water. “Did you get a boyfriend or something?”
Kiara blushed, confirming what the blond boy had said was true. “No way!” Pope exclaimed. “Who is he? Is he a Kook?”
“God, please don’t let it be a Kook,” John B exclaimed jokingly.
Kiara was mad at this statement. So what if Rafe was a Kook? Shouldn’t they just be happy that she’s found someone she liked?
“Actually, it is a Kook,” she said, the tone of her voice showing she was pissed off.
“Wait, really?” John B questioned. “Well, we should have expected that, actually.”
Kiara furrowed her eyebrows. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Oh, you know,” JJ said, his jaw clenching and unclenching repeatedly. “Just that you’ve been blowing us off to hang around all of those Kooks from your preppy school.”
“So what?” Kiara spat out. “I’m sorry I made some other friends that aren’t you guys.”
“That’s not the point, Kie,” Pope said. “It’s cool that you’ve made friends, but you aren’t hanging out with us anymore.”
“That’s a lie! What am I doing right now?”
John B scoffed. “Yeah, and you’re hanging out with us after how long of not doing so?”
Kiara looked down, intertwining her hands. They were sort of right. “Look, I’m sorry, okay? It’s just - I spent so much time hating the academy and now that I have friends it doesn’t suck anymore. And I don’t want it to suck again. So I have to spend time with the Kooks.”
“We know that,” JJ said as he gathered up the fish he had pulled out from the water. “Just hang out with us too.”
That afternoon, Kie promised the boys she would hang out with them more frequently, but she didn’t manage to keep that promise.
When she arrived home, Rafe was waiting for her with a frown on her face. That was when she knew she was going to have to cut off the Pogues.
******************************************************************************
Kiara hadn’t realized how much she relied on the Pogues until she couldn’t contact them. Rafe would get mad each time she did that, and normally she would have stood up for herself and her friends, but she didn’t want her school life to go back to what it had been before Sarah and Rafe.
She was mad at herself for being weak and for wanting to stay with Rafe. Before that day that Rafe had confronted her about the Pogues, she still talked to them every day via text messages despite not hanging out with them much. But now, she didn’t even talk to them anymore.
Rafe was demanding. The couple of months they had been together evidenced that. He wanted to spend as much time as he could with Kiara, whether to keep her under his watch or just to be distracted from his own problems she didn’t know. Kiara felt like she was drowning in the waters of Rafe Cameron’s deep eyes, waters that managed to encapture her and lure her into his world of problems.
Kiara noticed how he began to leave his house at random times while she was hanging around with Sarah. When he would come back, he would seem distracted and unfocused. Almost as if he was not actually in the room. His eyes would travel across his surroundings without stoping on anyone’s faces or without hitching even once. It was almost as if his glazed orbs were looking at a blank canvas and moving over it. Kiara didn’t understand what was wrong with him, but she didn’t want to pressure him into telling her. She knew Rafe would only get mad at that.
However, when it had been going on for too long and it was happening too frequently, Kiara decided enough was enough. Something was wrong with Rafe and she was going to get to the bottom of it.
When Sarah fell asleep that evening, Kiara stood as quietly as she could from the bed where she lay, removing the covers from her body. She walked down the hallway and opened the door to Rafe’s room without emitting a single noise. She really didn’t want Ward or Rose to realize she was in the bedroom.
It seemed as if Rafe hadn’t heard Kiara stepping inside because when she turned around to look at him, he was hunched over his desk. Kiara noticed a dollar bill rolled up in his hands and he seemed to be holding it close to his nose.
“Rafe,” she startled him, confusion dancing across her eyes. “What are you doing?”
The blond stood from where he was seated and tried to cover Kiara’s view of the desk. But she saw exactly what he was doing.
Kiara couldn’t believe it. Was Rafe that fucked up that he had turned to drugs? Was she not enough comfort for him?
“Hey, what are you doing here?” he questioned the girl who was backing away from him. Rafe saw the slight fear in her eyes, which made him know she had seen what was on his desk.
“What’s wrong, Rafe? Why are you doing d-drugs?”
Kiara was trying to handle the situation, but she didn’t know how to do so. Was she supposed to approach him gently and try to get him clean? Was she supposed to keep her distance from him because of what he was doing? She didn’t know, she didn’t know.
“Babe, I swear it’s nothing.”
“Nothing?” she repeated. Her voice was shaking a little bit, and Rafe tried to take hold of her hands to calm her down. She only flinched away from his touch. “Those are hard drugs, Rafe. What is going on?”
“Kie, please keep your voice down. I pro-”
“Why? So nobody hears that you’re doing drugs? Coke, nonetheless?”
She was completely freaking out. Rafe couldn’t have her freaking out and letting everyone in his house know what he was doing.
“Kie, calm down, okay? Yes, I’m doing drugs, but I swear it was just this one time.”
“Don’t lie! Is this why you’ve been coming back all whacked out at random times during the day?”
Rafe sighed. He rubbed his hands over both of his eyes before tousling his hair a bit. He needed Kie to calm down.
“Okay, I admit I’ve been doing this for a while. But I promise this is the last time-”
“Stop lying, Rafe! We both know this isn’t your last time.”
“No, we don’t know that. Look., I’ll stop doing drugs. But please don’t tell Sarah what I was doing. I don’t want my family to know.”
“I can’t do that, Rafe. You need help.”
“NO, I DON’T!” Rafe suddenly yelled. Kiara pushed her body into the door of the room. “I’m fine, okay? I have my shit together and everything is okay. Okay?”
Kiara only shook her head as tear began to fall from her eyes. “Who are you?” she whispered.
“I’m me, baby. I’m still Rafe,” he tried to convince her. Or was he trying to convince himself?
“No, you’re not. Not the Rafe I knew.”
Kiara turned around to open the door and run away from whoever was standing before her, but he tugged her back by her arm. A yelp escaped past her lips, indicating that Rafe had hurt her. He let go at once, giving the girl before him a pleading look.
“I can’t be with you anymore. I don’t know how to be with you,” she said before opening the door and running away.
That night, they both fell asleep feeling like cowards.
*****************************************************************
Kiara cried for days. It was her first break up, and it was caused by something she would have never expected.
She tried to be positive around everybody, but they could all tell she was not okay. They didn’t ask her about it though. Not even her friends from school. Not even Sarah.
Kiara spent most of her time locked away in her room. No texts came in. No one called.
After spending the whole week crying, she finally decided enough was enough. And so she pulled her phone out from the drawer she had kept it in during the past hours and sent a couple of texts to Sarah.
While she waited for a reply, Kiara began to clean herself up. She took a much-needed shower and changed out of her dirty clothes. She brushed her hair and curled it the way Sarah and a couple of other girls from the Kook Academy had taught her. Then she checked her phone, expecting to see Sarah’s reply.
However, the blonde girl had read the messages and not replied. That’s weird, Kiara thought. She must be busy.
Kiara tried to message some other girls from school to see what they were up to and if any of them were with Sarah, but no one replied.
Deciding to pass some time, Kiara opened the Instagram app on her phone, scrolling through stories and skimming over some posts a couple of people had posted recently. She suddenly stopped when she saw a story of some girls that were dressed to attend a party, and as she read what the image sid above it, tears flooded Kiara’s eyes.
Sarah had celebrated her birthday today. And she hadn’t invited Kiara.
In her rage, Kiara contacted the police claiming to be making a noise complaint. She recited Sarah’s address before hanging up and crying for a short while on the floor of her room.
Once her tears were all gone (and she was extremely dehydrated), the dark-skinned girl stood up and left her house.
The walk to her destination was short, but she was going at the slowest pace possible to avoid getting there. She was nervous as to what they would say, but she was tired of being a coward. She had to suck it up and accept the consequences of her actions. And she would start by apologizing.
Once she reached the Chateau, Kiara wiped her eyes just in case there were any stray tears. She looked towards the dock, where she saw three bodies lounging around. Pope was reading and was holding a flashlight towards his books. JJ was holding a fishing pole while smoking a blunt as he spoke to John B, who was perched on the railing and sipping a beer.
Kiara breathed in, trying to relax her muscles. She could do this. She had to do this. And with that, she approached the three boys.

[breakfast scene. i don’t know why i thought it was dinner] i know that the whole No Talking At Dinner thing is supposed to be oppressive or whatever but honestly that's my dream. i'm ben here. just gimme a book and i'm good. i don’t want to talk to people. [five runs off] five said fuck the system. damn this soundtrack slaps.
[five yelling for ben and vanya] do we find out why five doesn't have a name?
[back in vanya’s apartment.] oh the twinkie joke i remember that. [”do you have anything stronger?”] VANYA DON'T GIVE CHILDREN ALCOHOL. again, very impressed with five's acting. he really sells the kid v. adult thing. esp. with the jumps in the breakfast scene v. in the present day. it visibly shows more effort and it’s a small detail but it’s effective. [vanya says time travel can fuck with your head] vanya stop gaslighting your little brother smh. but also kudos for healthy sleep schedules.

also how does he not just topple over all the time. his center of balance is so unstable. by rights he should've fallen down the stairs. he looks like reverse big chungus.
[vanya goes looking for five at the academy] again, i definitely think if vanya hadn't reacted so poorly so immediately the entire thing would have gone over very differently. i'm gna write this au. [”i’m sorry. i was dismissive.”] okay stan vanya for apologising and trying to mend things with five. also shoutout to vanya for going to therapy. what an icon.
five can you just trust your sister please? you will be fine you little shit.
[”i’m moist.”] okay klaus can have some rights. [”what? this is my nicest outfit.”] oh that was just like. entirely irish ok. [klaus starts on the cover story] five has no time for theater kids and honestly? vibes. [they banter] okay i get why the whole fandom goes nuts over klaus and five bonding. they have a good dynamic.
[t u n a   s a n d w i c h] hazel's literally just hungry. he's valid.
cha cha deserves a promotion. [i don’t remember what she was saying but i’m still right]

[”you’re useless. you’re all useless.”] five you literally picked the Most Useless of your siblings. talk to allison she has her shit together.
i could watch vanya play violin for hours tbh. [leonard arrives] ew gross. let her keep playing. god but vanya is a lesbian because leonard looks like Every Single Comp Het Crush Ever.
[diego gets back to his boiler room] if diego's gonna wear a literal bondage harness everywhere he might as well take advantage of the extra space for knives. [he nearly stabs luther] oh okay Now it's fight time.
[he eats a literal raw egg just straight into his mouth] did. is that where. he just literally cra- eugh. i gagged. i literally gagged. that's disgusting. what the fuck.
[luther leaves] oh i missed that whole conversation seeing as i was too busy being Disgusted at diego. No men get rights anymore. [it would have been better if he’d eaten the shell too.]
[leonard goes off about his dad] leonard came up with a really good and compelling cover story actually. we're not gonna stan because he has The Worst Vibes. but anyway.
[i hAvE a CaRPeNtRy sHOp] that's moving Way Too Fucking Fast, vanya. that's too fast.
[allison smoking in the windowsill] dhsjns putting out the cigarette.
[”this is always where you came when you were upset”] pogo's trying to parent? i mean, sure. [”actually, miss vanya called to make sure you were alright”] also vanya and allison deserve to be besties and good sisters. [”how did you manage in this big house alone for all those years?”] wow good point actually pogo must have been incredibly lonely. poor guy.
[surveillance tapes] that's creepy as hell. but like to each their own. [”vanya. why did we always leave her out of everything.”] Let 👏 Them 👏 Be 👏 Friends.
kudos to the writing here because they actually do a good job at showing where the off-screen development is coming from. [i’d like to take this back the scene did not go where i thought it would]
[allison watches the Obviously Planted Tape] i cannot emphasise how little of a shit i give about the hargreeves' murder mystery.
five's getting his waifu. i remember watching this first time round and literally just being like
Tumblr media
five x delores is healthier than allison x luther btw.
s o u n d t r a c k c h o i c e s
the freezeframes are...... a choice. [this wasn’t even meant as negative i just don’t know how i feel about them]
cha cha always having a plan. we stan a show where literally every woman is badass? [the wrist brace] hazel rights. did. did five just kill cha cha. [fails to jump] why can't five teleport? did i miss something??
okay but the way he cradles the mannequin? like that's love bitch. lowkey.
Patch is now Carrying This Show [i don’t know what this scene was i think i just saw her on screen and my lesbian brain took over]
[allison tells luther about the tape] allison and luther b like we Are the mystery incorporated.
[”there’s nothing you can do. there’s nothing anyone can do.”] five gave up... very easily. i mean i'm all for retiring to the countryside with your wife and just making good with the time you've got but. this seems a little dramatic.
[soundtrack] oh shit paloma faith. i've met her.
[five finds the bodies] o h s h i t i forgot about this. gdi. oh god poor baby. baby no.

Smitten // Bang Chan
Tumblr media
Pairing: Athlete! Chan x Cheerleader! Reader Genre: Fluff Requested: Yes by anon Words: 7.3k+ Warning: Little bit of sexual tension but not smut level
A/N: Sorry this took so long! Sorry if I don’t mention much about cheerleading or get technical, I’m not very well versed in it :( I tried my best with it, I hope you like it anon~
It wasn’t every day that you fell for boys on your first night out in the new town. Or in this case, fall on them.
“Oh gosh, I’m so sorry!” With how packed the club was, you expected the pushing and shoving but you weren’t expecting to be thrown into some guy’s arms. As a natural instinct, your hands came up and held onto the closest stable source in order to avoid falling–the source being this random guy in the club.
“No no, no worries. I hope you’re okay.” He was nice enough to grab onto your forearms, helping to stabilize you until you were back on your own two feet.
Now on both your feet, you finally look up to meet the eyes of the owner of the gentle voice.
Wow, you feel your breath taken away. His wavy blonde hair was styled perfectly to fall across his forehead and away from his eyes which seemed to reflect tenfold every dim lighting in this club. There was a small gentle smile on his face as he greeted you and it made you putty in his arms (quite literally since the two of you had yet to separate). God, he was cute and you were smitten for him.
“U-uh yeah I’m good. Sorry for the sudden uh-” Realising that you were still in his hold, you finally let go and so does he. You smile in thanks but neither of you takes a step away from the other.
“No really, it’s okay. It’s pretty packed in here huh?” He smiled wider and gosh was that a dimple? Pretty sure you were swooning in plain sight at this point.
“Yeah, no kidding is it usually always like this?” You ask, taking the opportunity to start a conversation with the cute guy.
“On Fridays? Always,” He chuckles and god dammit even his chuckle is cute. “The college kids love to come here after a tough week. You new around here?”
“Uh yeah,” All of a sudden you’re nervous and fiddling with the hair in front of your face, tucking it behind your ear, flashing a shy smile, “Starting college soon.”
“Hey,” you feel him nudge you lightly with his elbow, prompting you to look back up at him. “How about I buy you a drink then? A treat for the newbie?“
His head tilts sideways following his question and his smile is gentle as ever. His eyes are soft and clearly, he doesn’t mean it in any motive other than friendly.
A cute guy was asking you out? Did this count as asking out? Oh god, your heartbeat picked up and you were nervous but you thanked whatever gracious deeds you had done in your past life to deserve this.
Your shy smile widens and just as you’re about to accept his offer and ask for his name, the phone in your back pocket blares with a call.
"Sorry, I gotta take this,” you flash an apologetic smile and fish out your phone, finding the call to be from your best friend who you had previously lost in the crowd.
“Rina? Rina hey,” you’re shouting down at your phone, one hand plugging your ear as you try to make out what she was saying.
“Y/N! Y/N Y/N Y/N my bestest world friend!” What-‘bestest world friend’? Was she drunk? Already?
“Rina are you drunk?”
“Drunk????? God forbid no!” The evident slur of her words was contradictory to her claims, this girl was drunk.
Sighing, you can only close your eyes for a moment before replying back, “Hey, okay Rina I need you to move towards the toilet, okay? I’ll meet you there. Go there, now, got it?"
You finally put your phone down and face the cute guy again, "Sorry, I really gotta go.”
“Yeah, no problem! Looks like your friend is having a bit of trouble, huh?” His gentle expression never once wavered, you kinda felt bad turning him down like this.
“She tends to go a little crazy when unsupervised, yeah,” you lightly chuckle at your own statement and he returns it. “I’ll hold you up to that offer next time?” Gosh, you hope your face doesn’t give away your hopeful expression, that’d be embarrassing.
He lets out a light chuckle once again, glancing down and ugh he’s so cute, “Yeah, I hope so."
With a final flash of his cute smile and adorable dimples and your shy smile in response, you back away, off to look for your cockblocking best friend.
It never occurred to you that you had never exchanged names with the cute guy until you were dragging your drunk friend towards a cab. Somewhere in the middle of her drunk ramblings, she asked what you were up to and that’s when it hit you. You had no idea how to refer to the cute guy except for ‘cute guy’.
Ever since that day, Rina’s been teasing you for not even managing to exchange names with the cute guy, to which you retort by calling her out for her interruption. Still, you described his features to her, the way he talked and how kind he seemed and Rina was convinced you fell in love with him.
Unfortunately, you haven’t seen him ever since then, not even around your college. He seemed like a college student, just like you, albeit probably senior to you but still. Thoughts of him always lingered at the back of your mind from time to time but you had no time to be swooning over a guy you barely knew. As a med student, you already had a lot on your plate and now that you were in training for the cheerleading squad, your plate was overflowing. You didn’t complain about it though, you truly enjoyed studying medicine and you equally loved the art of cheerleading.
Plus, there were many other cute guys right on campus–Kim Seungmin for example. He was also in medicine and you shared quite a number of classes with him, even working on a few group projects with him. He had a refreshing feel and exuded the kind of gentle and innocent vibes that a lot of girls on campus seemed to like. While you weren’t blind to his beauty and charms, you simply didn’t view him as a possible romantic partner and so your friendship with him very quickly thrived. In a matter of weeks alone, you found out just how maniacally evil he is underneath those innocent looks and he cracked your shy shell to find the confident sassy woman you are underneath.
When Rina found out you were classmates with Seungmin, she just about stopped breathing. When she found out about your growing friendship with him, she just about fainted. It was on one rainy weekend, you and Rina huddled on the sofa discussing gossip as one does with their best friend, that you learnt out about Kim Seungmin and his eight friends. Apparently, there were nine guys spread across your college, Covern, and your rival college, Rashford. Kim Seungmin, Yang Jeongin, Kim Woojin, and Lee Felix attended Covern while Bang Chan, Seo Changbin, Han Jisung, Lee Minho, and Hwang Hyunjin attended Rashford. The nine friends were as thick as thieves, yet separated into the two biggest colleges of the area who also happened to be rivals. These nine were also known for their handsome looks and kind personalities that made them extremely attractive to the female college student population.
Of course, being the kind of person you are, the next time you saw Seungmin you didn’t hesitate to bring this up. The sly smile on your face as you approached him didn’t go unnoticed and he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t the least bit worried about what was going on in your head.
"Kim Seungmin,” you began barely being able to hold in your laughter, “you’re so good looking, you’re so popular! What did I do to deserve you as my friend?” At this point, you have the fakest awestruck look on your face, your hand dramatically on your forehead, your eyes glancing at Seungmin. The only response you get from him is an eye roll and a sigh, the typical Seungmin response.
“You found out about me and my friends huh?” He quickly goes back to the book on his desk, revising the content for today’s class. You finally drop the act and slide into the seat beside him, constantly nudging him as he stares down at the book below him.
“I knew you were popular with the ladies, Seungmin,” you hear him groan out loud at that statement, “but being in a whole boy band of good looks? That’s a whole another level.”
“We are not a boy band.” He’s quick to snap in reply and you can only snigger as you continue teasing him.
“Anyway, when were you gonna introduce me to your fellow boy band members?” He narrows his eyes at your choice of words but gives up fighting you. With another sigh, he finally turns his body in his seat to properly face you.
“You know the game happening this weekend?”
“The basketball game?” You had heard that basketball season was starting soon. Not because you were a huge basketball fan, but more because of the preparation the cheerleading team was going through for the upcoming tournaments. “What about it?”
“Well, my friends are playing–as the opposing team that is–and then we’re gonna have a party, at my house. I was gonna invite you to meet my friends there.”
“Woah woah, am I being personally invited by the Kim Seungmin?” His shoulders sag and his face is deadpan at the fact that you continued the joke. Before he could possibly retract his invitation, you quickly straighten yourself up.
“Okay, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” you’re still giggling here and there, your hand on his arm asking him to calm down. “I’d love to meet your friends, send me your address?”
He nods and the conversation ends there just as the teacher walks in and starts class.
You can’t suppress the light shiver you feel as you enter the air-conditioned gymnasium with Rina. The bleachers are slowly filling up and the place is in a buzz as students of both Covern and Rashford gather to watch the big match. You register the squeaking of shoes as the players warm up as Rina and you do a quick sweep of the bleachers for an empty spot. With a quick wave towards Seungmin who you had spotted sitting with his Covern friends, you and Rina finally sit down and face the court.
Off to one corner, you see the cheerleading team prepping for their performance. You’d join but you weren’t declared ready yet, still in need of a little more practice getting used to group dynamics and performance skills. They figured you’d be ready by the next tournament and you couldn’t wait to finally show what you had been working hard on. On the court, you see your college’s team players in white and gold in one half and the other team in black and red on the other half. Rina is beside you squealing over the good-looking friends of Seungmin as well as some of the Rashford players and your attention is brought to them. Your jaw drops and you swear you’ve stopped breathing this time as you register the cute blonde hair guy from the club among the players.
“That’s him,” your voice is quiet and you mumble more for yourself rather than Rina but she catches it anyway.
“What?”
“That’s him, that’s the cute guy I met at the club. The blonde one there.” Her head snaps to look at you but you’re just gaping over at the Rashford team. Oh god, he was wearing a sleeveless jersey. Dammit, this was basketball of course he was wearing sleeveless. Your eyes soak up the beauty of him, his blonde hair that’s left unstyled but still falling perfectly on top of his black headband. His biceps that bulge and tense as he dribbles and maneuvers the ball with ease, and the veins on his forearms as he flicks his wrist for a hoop shot. Fuck he’s cute and really hot? Unfair.
You’re snapped out of your trance admiring him as Rina suddenly snaps upright, screeching, “You met Bang Chan?!"
Your eyes widen and you’re aware of the slight hush that fell over the gym at Rina’s exclamation. He, who you now knew was named Chan one of the nine heartthrobs, probably heard it too but you didn’t dare look in that direction. You quickly grab onto her wrist and tug her down to sit back down. Unwillingly, your eyes flicker to the Rashford team to find Chan looking in your direction. You see recognition in his eyes and oh god you wanna curl up and hide in embarrassment.
"Rina, will you shut up?” You practically hiss at her, “Nice going, now he knows.”
“Y/N you met Bang Christopher Chan! At the club!” She’s still holding a shocked expression.
“Yes, I know that thanks,” you take the moment to look back towards Chan. He has a slight smile on his face and you send him a small shy wave in greeting.
“He was gonna ask you out!” Rina squeals as she punches your arm in excitement.
“He didn’t-That doesn’t count.” You pout as you rub the sore spot on your arm.
“Oh Y/N, Y/N, Y/N,” she swings an arm around your shoulders and faces front towards the court again, “you’re cute, I’ll give you points for that.”
You’d reply but you’re too busy admiring Chan again who has gone back to warming up with the rest of his team. When you don’t respond, she continues, “You gotta put your game face on girlie, you got a man to seduce.”
This time you don’t have a response apart from the stuttered “No!” you managed to squeak out.
Parting with Rina post-game was both easy and hard. On the one hand, you couldn’t wait to get away from her and her teasing remarks cheering you on to seduce Chan and “get some.” On the other hand, you were now nervous as heck about going to Seungmin’s party. She left you with Seungmin, but not before giving you many winks and sly nudges. Seungmin noticed the weird behaviour and when he turned to question you about it, you simply raised a hand and stopped him right there. Surprisingly, he lets it drop and instead leads you to his car, making light chat about the game on the way to his home.
“So you must already know Jeongin, Felix, and Woojin quite well,” he began and you lightly nod in response while admiring the sights outside.
“I wouldn’t say 'well’, but I do know more about them than the rest.” You glance at him from the corner of your eye and the sight of him watching the sides of the road for oncoming cars as he turns into a curb almost makes your heart flutter. “Jeongin is working towards a teaching degree, Felix majors in dance and Woojin is a lit major, right?”
“Yeah, I’m not surprised you’d know more about them since they study here in Covern. My other friends are Rashford students; Chan, Hyunjin, Minho, Jisung, and Changbin.” The moment he mentioned Chan’s name, your heart fluttered and you push down the smile fighting to appear on your face.
“Chan is the uh-the basketball player right?” You try to coyly ask while also hiding your growing interest.
“Yeah, Chan or sometimes otherwise called Chris, he’s a music major in Rashford and he’s also caught your eye, what’s up with that?”
Your peaceful scenery gazing is interrupted by his unexpected comment and all of a sudden you’re choking on your own spit.
“Cau-Caught my eye? I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You try your best to put on a poker face, recovering from the choking fit you just had. All you can do is look outside, unable to meet eyes with Seungmin who is now chuckling at your flustered state.
“If you wanna play hard-to-get with that denial game, that’s your choice,” you finally see him pull up into the driveway of a home you assume is his, “But just saying, he has just as much interest towards you.”
By the time you’ve registered what he said and recovered from the shock of it, he’s already opening his side of the car door. You gape at him as he exits the car, and continue gaping as he slyly smirks at your flustered expression.
He’s leading you towards his house as you stutter questions regarding his previous comment but he keeps quiet with that damned smirk on his face. Instead, he opens his front door and immediately you’re welcomed with the ruckus going on inside his house. There’s a chill but upbeat melodic tune playing from what you presume to be his living room where you see most of the boys inside, another few in his main corridor heading to raid his kitchen.
“Yah!” The loud exclamation from the otherwise demure boy beside you makes you jump and you turn to see him walking into his kitchen, chasing the boys who just went in. You’re left at his doorstep, feeling slightly awkward and lost, but not for long as you’re accompanied by an arm slung around your shoulder.
“Hey! You must be Y/N, right?” You trace the cheery voice to be the owner of the arm slung across your shoulder and you can only shyly nod in response. The guy has dark blue hair and a bright expression on his face. His smile is really cute, especially considering the cute squirrel-like cheeks he had. His whole demeanor exuded soft vibes that easily relaxed you into a smile, making you feel comfortable in his arms as he leads you into the living room towards the rest of the boys.
“I’m Jisung,” he flashes a smile and you coo inside at how adorable he looks. He waves a hand forward and you pull your attention away from him to the five boys huddled in different areas of the couch. “Guys come meet Seungmin’s friend!”
Five heads turn to face you and you flash a small smile in greeting, your eyes sweeping the crowd of faces. Your eyes snap first to the familiar faces of Felix and Woojin, before realizing you didn’t know the other three in the room.
“Hi I’m Y/N, Seungmin and I are classmates.” Your eyes sweep the living room once more before confirming that Chan wasn’t in the room and you didn’t know whether to feel relieved or disappointed. Still, introductions and names were exchanged all while Jisung’s arm remained around your shoulder. Surprisingly, you didn’t mind it despite the fact that you had just met the guy because he exuded such calm friendly vibes that you easily accepted that he was a touchy person.
All of a sudden, the arm on your shoulder is slapped away and you turn to find yourself facing Chan. He has a bun in his mouth, and his eyebrows are furrowed at Jisung, glaring at him as he backs away from you with his hands raised. Your breath hitches at how cute Chan looks with the food still in his mouth, and your heart flutters at the thought that perhaps he was jealous of the skinship between you and Jisung. But you quickly dismiss that thought as your eyes finally meet his and you’re melting again at how gorgeous Chan looks with his showered wet hair that dangled down his forehead.
“H-hi,” you shyly greet him finally and he doesn’t snap out of his trance until Seungmin lands a blow on his back. His hand snaps up to pull the bun out of his mouth and he straightens himself up, clearing his throat.
“Hey, I’m Chan or Bang Chan, or Chris,” he begins to ramble a bit in his introduction and you nearly let out a giggle at how cute he is when flustered. “It’s nice to finally meet you again,” his smile stretches wide and his dimples are on full display, and you have the strongest urge to poke one.
“HA!” You’re interrupted as you gazed at Chan with the softest smile on your face. You jump in shock once again, your hand on your chest to soothe your heart and you wonder how many more times you’ll be shocked tonight. Chan and you face the living room to find most of the guys with knowing smirks and you can only wonder why.
“So you’re the girl who had Chan smitten at the club!” One of the guy remarks in complete glee, jumping at the chance to embarrass his friend.
“Wha-What yah! Seo Changbin!” Chan’s voice is squeaky in response and you let a small giggle slip, hiding your elated laugh behind your fist as you watch the horror and embarrassment dawn on his face. Bang Chan was smitten by you? Cute. The light red tint on his cheeks? Adorable. Just as Chan was about to lunge at Changbin, he’s stopped by Seungmin who has one arm around him and the other around you.
“Now now, you’ve just finished a game,” Seungmin is surprisingly very good at mediating and you wonder how many times he’s had to do this. “Let’s just sit around and chill for the night, get to know Y/N!”
The night passes in the blink of an eye when you’re surrounded by nine dorks. Loud laughter and chatter filled the room as the ten of you got to know each and while you’d admit these guys were gorgeous, their personalities were amazing. Somehow these guys were both smart and dumb. You’ll probably never comprehend how such a contradiction was possible but that was the last of your worries as Jisung made you cry from laughing too hard at his jokes, as Felix taught you the weirdest meme dances, and as you fawned over how precious Jeongin is. If you were anywhere near as drunk as Minho and Hyunjin were, both of whom were singing ballad songs to each other by the way, you’d probably be coddling Jeongin and declaring him your son.
But you make the responsible choice (since no one else in this house seemed to be up for that) to step out in the backyard for a quiet moment to yourself. The air is slightly chilly but the cold freshens you up and it feels good to be breathing in the fresh air. Somewhere behind you, you hear the backdoor opening and closing but don’t bother to face who entered. You’re gazing up at the night sky when said person stands next to you, also taking a moment to breathe in the fresh night air.
“Needed a moment to yourself? Completely understandable,” you hear him chuckle and you automatically register him as Chan, despite not knowing the guy for very long.
“Yeah,” you hum in response. “Not in that way though, don’t get me wrong you guys make for an amazing company.” Chan doesn’t reply and the two of you are left standing beside one another, enjoying the silence and each others’ presence. Your eyes don’t stay on the night sky for long, as they trail down to gaze at Chan’s side profile. His jaw was chiseled and sharp, his eyes gleaming once again despite the dark environment he’s in. He’s breathtakingly beautiful and you worry he can hear your heart thundering in your chest at the effect of his beauty. But the moment quickly passes as Chan starts a chat that allows the two of you to get more acquainted with each other in a more private setting away from the loud boys.
You don’t know how long you’ve spent chatting with Chan outside, but you enjoyed every second of it. He was kind even in the way he spoke and you learn more about both his mature and goofy sides. The two of you discussed deep morals, shared the latest trending memes, and conversed about everything in between. You learnt all about him; from his love of music and rap group named 3Racha compromised of Jisung and Changbin to his dog Berry and adorable siblings. You’d spend all night with him, in this moment, the hushed chatter between the two of you, the occasional comfortable silences, and laughs and giggles filling the air.
“So…” you start up the conversation this time as your previous one fades away. Your voice sounds light and you can’t help the small smirk that grows on your face as you think back to what Changbin had said, “You’re smitten for me, huh?”
Chan’s face snaps to yours, making immediate eye contact and your laughter fills the otherwise silent air at his gaping face. You don’t quite know where this confidence was coming from, but you definitely like the way he reacts to you. Just as you’re about to continue teasing him, his body snaps to face yours and he takes a bold step closer to you. Your breath hitches in your throat, no longer laughing at him and now he’s the one with the smirk on his face. He takes another step closer and you find yourself at the edge of the porch fence. It digs into your back and you’re trapped as Chan encases your frame with his large one, his two arms trapping you.
“You say that as if you aren’t just as smitten for me, babygirl,” his voice is quiet, just barely above a whisper but it’s husky. That along with his term of endearment has you weak in the knees. You swallow in nervousness as your eyes trail up his face, admiring his features once again, pausing for the slightest moment at his lips before continuing up to meet his eyes. His gaze is intense and you’re lost in them, in him. Out of habit, you bite your lip in nervousness and his eyes snap down to watch the action, letting out the faintest groan that you barely catch.
When his eyes meet yours once again, you see him move closer, or is it you who’s moving towards him? Your noses are brushing, the sensation sending light tickles down your spine and you breathe him in as your hands grasp the sides of his shirt, scrunching the material in your fist. Lightly tugging, you finally pull Chan down, closing the final distance between the two of you and your lips lightly brush his-
“Chan!” There’s a sudden whine coming from inside and the two of you spring apart. At the backdoor appears Jisung, his cheeks flushed as red as yours and Chan’s but not for the same reasons.
“Changbin is bullying me,” he pouts and his already chubby cheeks puff out that much more. Suddenly, you don’t have it in you to be mad at the poor drunk guy. Chan, however, is clearly sick of his bandmate/friend’s drunk bullshit. He lets out a sigh before turning back to you, his cheeks still a bit red but his blush is quickly fading.
“I’m really sorry,” the poor guy sounds sincere in his apology and you give him a soft smile.
“No no, it’s okay we should be heading in now anyway."
Chan’s shoulders slightly sag in disappointment, but he nods in response and gestures for you to go first, "After you.”
It wasn’t long after that when Seungmin finally called it a night. Some of the guys chose to stay over, and the others headed out back home like you. It also didn’t take long for Rina to be on your ass about the post-game party and Chan. You told her about how the two of you enjoyed a light conversation before you dropped the bomb that you nearly kissed him that night. Rina ran circles around the room, squealing in excitement for you and you could only chuckle at her antics.
When she had finally settled down, she asked if the two of you had settled a meeting and that’s when you were left dumbfounded. It never even occurred to you to ask Chan to meet you again. Once again, you were astounded by the level of dumbassery you were able to achieve. You groaned and grumbled about it to yourself for a couple of days, but the weekend quickly passed and Seungmin let it slip that Chan felt just as dumb for not asking you out. Your mouth easily twitched into a shy smile, but you quickly looked down to your fiddling hands to try to hide it.
Seungmin offered to help the two of you arrange something but the following week passed in a blur with your final cheerleading practices and Chan’s basketball practices for the second game next weekend. It was both mentally and physically tiring, practicing for cheerleading while juggling studies. Every night you’d return home, jump into the shower, then sit down to study until the late hours of the night and into the early morning. You imagined it to be the same for Chan who had mentioned the upcoming intense practices at Seungmin’s party. As a result, neither of you were even available to meet up for a date anyway. Ah, the life of a college student is tough.
When the weekend had finally rolled around once again, you were finally performance ready and itching to cheer on your team for the second game against Rashford. Your cheerleading uniform had arrived sometime midweek, giving you plenty of time to get used to the skintight material and short skirt. In the afternoon, you prepared your makeup and outfit with Rina and the rest of the cheerleading team, and in the evening you did a final marking run through with the team. By the time the game began, you were definitely ready but the nerves in your stomach said so otherwise. You didn’t know whether it was because this was your first time cheerleading in front of a crowd or because you knew Chan was going to be there. The thought of him sent butterflies in your stomach and you tug the ends of your uniform, feeling nervous about being in such a short skirt in front of him.
The signal to go on the court was given and you put on your game face as you stepped out in front of the crowd. They cheered at the sight of your cheerleading team and you automatically smiled in response. The pre-game performance went smoothly and the fact helped soothe your nerves. Throughout the whole performance, you could feel Chan’s gaze on your but you didn’t have the courage to look back at him. You missed the mixed look of surprise and adoration on his face as he watched, entranced and impressed by your performance. His eyes took several laps gazing up and down your figure, soaking in how gorgeous you looked in the cheerleading outfit, how beautiful your confidence was in a performance. He was hooked on you, smitten for you, and he wondered whether he’d be able to pay attention to the game with you looking like that.
Before he knew it, the referee was prepping both teams to start off the game, and he was whisked off to his position on the court. His performance started off flawlessly. His head was in the game, he was analyzing his opponents’ moves; predicting their moves and coming up with counters. With the help of a few of his teammates, he easily managed to score a couple of points within the first few minutes. A mass of sweaty bodies hugged and gave quick congratulations to him before dispersing and he takes the moment to wipe the sweat off his brow, push the hair off his face. His eyes unconsciously trail over to you, who seems to be setting up for another performance with the cheerleading team.
Since the opposing team had managed to score points so early in the game, the team and you had decided that a quick cheer would help the team morale. As a result, you and three others were setting up in preparation, planning what would be done. Once decided, you took your stance and began your performance. The routine was quite simple but included a moderately risky stunt on your part. Upon your execution of it, the crowd let out a resounding gasp and for a moment you thought it was for you. That is until you were landed safely on the ground and allowed to look around you.
There was a huddle of players in one spot of the court and through the legs of the many players, you could spot a blonde head of hair on the floor. Immediately you let out a gasp and run towards them, worried about Chan who seemed to be groaning and on the floor.
“Move, move! I’m a med student!” Your remark has the crowd of players parting way for you. You hurriedly kneel down next to Chan and survey his whole body for any evident signs of trauma, broken bones, etc.
“Someone call the nurse! Quick, what happened?” Your voice is harsh and snappy but you don’t have time to be mushy.
“He zoned out mid-play and got hit in the head with a basketball,” one of the players standing behind you starts, “he fell down from the shock and I think he might have hit his head too.”
Fuck, if he was hit in the head with a basketball then hit again on the way down, your first concern was whether he had a concussion or not. Now that you knew what had happened, you immediately check his head for any bumps or bleeding. Chan’s eyes are squeezed shut and he seems dazed as he groans and moves his head side to side. Upon feeling your fingers press on a certain area, he lets out a loud grunt and you know it’s where he hit his head. Fortunately, you don’t feel any bumps or bleeding.
“Someone pass me a phone. Now.” You’re quickly handed one and you quickly fidget with it to pull up a flashlight. Chan’s eyes are still squeezed shut so you go to open his eyes with one hand, the other flashing the flashlight as lightly as possible into his left eye first, then his right. You let out a sigh as both pupils dilate with reaction to the light and hand the phone back to one of the hands behind you.
“Chan?” You start lightly, stroking his wet sweaty hair away from his forehead. “Hey Chan, I’m gonna need you to keep your eyes open, okay?”
You only hear him groan in response and you continue calmly stroking his hair with one hand, the other resting on his arm. When he finally opens his eyes, he grimaces at the bright lights before focusing on you. You send him a small smile and nod approvingly at him.
“That’s it, that’s it. Stay awake okay? You probably don’t have a concussion but I need you to stay awake anyway, keep looking at me, can you do that?” Your shoulders sag in relief at the fact that Chan seems completely responsive. Considering his responsive pupils, no bleeding or bumps on his head, he probably didn’t have a concussion but it was always good to be safe than sorry anyway.
“I could stare at you all day, babygirl.” In any other situation, you might have blushed and felt flustered at his comment, especially considering the crowd around the two of you. But not here, not now. Still, you let yourself chuckle at his comment and just as you open your mouth to reply, his eyes roll up and he falls unconscious.
All of a sudden you’re back to panicking, both your hands now cradling his face and trying to get him to wake up. Your breath hitches but not in a good way. In the middle of your ramblings as you try to get him awake and the constant soothing stroking of his hair, the nurse finally arrives and tells you she’ll handle it from here. Chan is quickly transferred onto a gurney and carried off to the nurse’s office, you following closely behind in worry.
Chan opens his eyes to once again face the bright white ceiling lights of the nurse’s office. He’s lying on a bed and after getting his bearings, he straightens himself as he reaches for the glass of water on the bedside table. Just as he takes a sip, the door opens and in marches you who seem to be pissed off.
“Bang. Christopher. Chan.” Pissed off at him, apparently. Wasn’t he the injured one here?
“Hey Y/N-”
“You fell unconscious. You fell unconscious!” You’re quick to cut him off. You were so worried when he passed out, fearing the worst case scenario that he might slip into a coma especially considering he hit his head.
“Woah, Y/N slow down-”
“You had a head injury then you fell unconscious when I told you to stay awake! 'I could stare at you all day’ didn’t last very long did it?” You knew you were being unfairly mad at him, but you couldn’t help it considering how anxiously you waited for the results of his imaging tests from the doctors, hoping and praying for it to not be a concussion. Thankfully it wasn’t.
“You could have had a concussion, Chan. And if you fall asleep when you have a concussion you risk falling into a coma. Do you realise how dangerous-”
You’re cut off by the tug on your wrist, and the fall you experience before landing with a thump on Chan’s upper body that remains upright. Just as you begin to scold him, he’s snaked a hand up your arm and to the back of your neck. He gently pushes your head forward, moving closer himself, before finally sealing his lips onto yours. The feel of his lips of yours is euphoric. The touch is as soft as his eyes that first fell on you at the club, as soft as his presence as he kept you company in the backyard of Seungmin’s house. You’re quickly swept into a fervor of kissing Chan, your lips pushing onto his and molding into one.
You take a shaky breath in, still caught up in the kiss and Chan tugs you the final stretch to bring you on his lap. You straddle his thighs, your hands snaking up to his hair and giving light tugs to which Chan responds with small moans. At this point, the two of you are separating constantly for air, but your lips never stay apart for long. One of you is quick to pull the other back down, sensually moving your lips together as you drown in each other and forget the outside world. Kissing Chan is thrilling, addicting, another level of sensory pleasure and adventure. He’s soft and yet rough, slow and yet fast, savouring the moment but also hungry and passionate for more. Pushing you closer to him, pushing his lips harder on yours, sucking and biting your lips.
Perhaps it’s the pent up sexual tension from last week at Seungmin’s party, you suppose. The two of you had nearly kissed only to be interrupted and it seems the near kiss had the two of you on edge for the whole week. You know Chan is a gentle person, but the kiss conveys the strength of his feelings towards you. You’d keep kissing him forever if you could, but you’d be damned if you let things go anywhere in a hospital of all places.
So with a final, long kiss just connected your lips with his, you finally part. Your eyes open to see his staring at yours, and both of you think even stars don’t shine as bright as the other’s eyes. You let a small, shy smile take over your face and you bite your lips out of nervousness. You don’t miss the flicker of Chan’s eyes to your lips before he speaks.
“Sorry, you looked really hot during your angry nerdy talk.” Chan sheepishly smiles at you and you melt on his lap, groaning and hiding the wide smile on your face with your hands. Chan brings his hands up to lightly grip your wrists before removing them from your face, wanting to see your breathtaking smile in full view. You comply and drop your hands to his shoulders instead, your face suddenly taking a serious expression.
“Bang Christopher Chan,” you begin to which he coyly raises an eyebrow, “when I tell you to stay awake you stay awake, you got that? You better listen to me from now on, mister."
A wide smile takes over Chan’s face and he nearly coos at how cute you looked, trying to be serious on his lap. Regardless, he gives in with a chuckle, "Yes ma'am."
You nod in approval then hook your fingers behind his neck, letting your expression drop as you pull him closer and kiss him on the forehead. His hands automatically find a place on your hips, keeping you seated on his lap, as he closes your eyes to embrace the feeling of your soft lips.
He hums in contentment before opening his eyes to look up at you, "So what’s a med student doing being a cheerleader?”
“What’s a music major doing on a basketball court, one of the best players on the team?” Your retort to him is snappy and he swears he falls for you even more.
“Touché,” he’s chuckling at your snarky response and he pulls you close to rest his forehead on yours.
“So,” he continues once again, “What do I need to do to have my own cute cheerleader? Cheering for me and only me from the sidelines?"
"Hmm, how about a dinner date and I’ll think about it?” You smile teasingly at him, withdrawing from him to put on a thinking face.
“What?! Hey, I’m injured here, you still not gonna cheer me on?” Chan’s hands trail up from your hips to your sides, giving you light tickles. The feeling makes you squeal in laughter as your hands automatically go to grab his, trying to push them away from you.
“I said I’ll think about it!” You manage to squeal out in the midst of your laughter. Chan’s face is overtaken by the wide smile and he’s thriving as he soaks up the beautiful sight of you, on his lap, with the widest smile and the sun shining down perfectly on your hair, sparkling off your eyes. He finally stops and you settle down, still in his lap.
“We gotta go, you’re cleared for dismissal so you can take me on that date since you’re so smitten for me.” You peck his lips and quickly climb off his lap before he recovers from your teasing. By the time he snaps out, you’re already down and standing beside his bed, helping to gather his things and he can only pout in your direction.
“Hey, come back, that wasn’t a proper kiss!"
Bonus:
Needless to say, in the next Rashford game that wasn’t against Covern, you stood in the bleachers wearing a large black and red jersey with "BANG” written on the back. His jersey reached just above your knees and you were practically drowning in it every time you wore it. The first few times, you grumbled complaining that it made you look like a midget but Chan was quick to soothe you with long comfy hugs and constant kisses all over your face. He’d never get over the sight of you in his jersey, it made his heart melt even as he was on the court and it took everything in him not to get distracted. But he had promised he wouldn’t and he made sure not to. Instead, taking every second of his breaks to stare adoringly at your figure enthusiastically cheering him on from the bleachers, loudly chanting his name regardless of how far he was from you.
Bang Chan was smitten for you, he’d admit it in a heartbeat. And you were equally as smitten for him, one could say you fell for him at the club–both literally and figuratively.

Little Miss Fortune AU edited with new hero name for Marinette
Summary: In which Marinette is caught in a bit of a predicament Felix/Marinette/Adrien Felinette Adrienette
--------------------
Marinette groaned as she tightened the black tie around her neck, making sure her breasts were hidden under the black suit blazer and white dress shirt, before tucking in the male model she knocked out accidentally on his dressing room couch. She didn’t mean to knock him down the stairs, but she figured her usual bad luck had something to do with it, and hurried into changing into his attire.
She exited the room, looking around cautiously, as she ran a hand through her now pixie cut hairstyle. She hadn’t wanted to cut her hair, but to get Plagg back, it was worth it.
Hawkmoth had stolen her Miraculous successfully, and without any partner to rely on, she was left on her own to chase him down and get Plagg back. She narrowed it down to Hawkmoth being a part of Agreste industries, but she had no clue of exactly where in the company he could be.
Her first objective was to locate where Hawkmoth was in the company, but without any more clues, she was left with no choice but to sneak in. She had successfully made it to the stairway when a model startled her, causing her to flail and accidentally slap him in the face so hard he fell down a flight of stairs.
Cursing that she was stuck with bad luck even without Plagg with her, she hurriedly dragged the unconscious model to his dressing room and, noting he had the same hair color and features, she quickly donned on his black suit and cut her hair to appear like him.
Sneaking down the hallway, Marinette’s mission was to find a directory where all the departments were accessible and told herself she would start there.
However, it seemed like her bad luck wasn’t through with her yet…
“Monsieur Cho! What are you doing? The set is this way!” A woman with glasses and dressed professionally approached her. She looked around confused, before realizing that she was supposed to be ‘Monsieur Cho’ and tried to escape before the woman grabbed her by her arm and steering her towards the opposite end of the hallway. Marinette panicked.
“Oh! Um! I have to go to the bathroom!” Marinette cried. The woman’s glasses gleamed.
“Yes, and I’m sure by magical coincidence you’ll end up instead seeing one of the female models in the nearest broom closet like the last three times you’ve used that excuse.” She commented sternly. Marinette gulped.
‘Scary!’ Marinette thought sweating.
“But I really have to go this time…” Marinette protested weakly. The woman raised an eyebrow and tugged Marinette to the photoshoot by her ear making the girl squeak.
Defeated, Marinette tried to quell her nervousness as the woman dragged her to what appeared to be a photoshoot. Her heart pounded as she eyed all the people around and if she was transformed, her ribbon tail would be in between her legs.
“Now this shoot is very important. You will be working directly with Monsieur Agreste’s sons. If you mess this up with more of your playboy antics, Monsieur Agreste will be sure to make sure you don’t have an opportunity like this again, Monsieur Cho. Am I clear?” The woman directed her frosty gaze to Marinette, who flinched and nodded rapidly. Of course, the person she’s pretending to be would have a bad reputation…
“Y-yes ma’am!” Marinette squeaked. Satisfied, the woman released her, and Marinette was seized by the make-up crew who started the finishing touches on her look. She figured she would be doing a formal shoot with the outfit she was wearing. The girl fidgeted as the team fiddled with her suit, not used to people being that close in her personal space without knowing them well. Alya would probably be laughing now if she knew how much trouble Marinette’s bad luck got her into this time.
‘Okay! I can do this! I just have to find some way to sneak away before I get pictures taken of me! This set’s big enough—no one will notice me slip away!’ Marinette resolved, determined to flee as soon as the make-up team released her. Once the team was done, Marinette bolted out of the curtains and promptly slammed into another body. ‘Shit! Oh well, I can still sneak away after I say sorry.’
“Oh, it’s you, Cho. Are you done wasting our time with your escapades?” a bored voice commented. Marinette looked up to meet icy green eyes. The boy had neat blonde hair and was wearing a suit similar to hers. When he got a better look of her, however, his eyes widened. “Who are you? You’re not Cho.”
‘Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!’
“U-um! Hello! I guess we haven’t seen each other in a while because I am very much—”
“I just saw you three hours ago when you left to go flirt with Bridgette.” The boy cut her off, eyes narrowing. Marinette squeaked as he got near to her face, examining her. “You look too feminine to be Cho. He may be effeminate but you’re practically a girl with your features.”
“Uhhhh”
“Felix! Cho! There you guys are!” another boy their age approached them with the same golden sunshine hair and vibrant green eyes that reminded Marinette of summer grass in an open field. The first boy, Felix, turned to address his look-a-like.
“Adrien, this isn’t—”
“Everyone on set! We’re going to start the shoot!” the photographer called. Marinette squeaked as people began to go to their places. She took a couple steps back, wanting to run and hide, but Adrien noticed her fearful stance.
“Are you okay?” he asked. Marinette jumped.
“I… I never done this before.” Marinette whispered. “I want to leave.”
“I heard this was your first real shoot.” Adrien remarked. He gave her an encouraging smile. “It’s scary the first time, but it’s like you’re playing pretend. You just follow what the photographer tells you and you act like you’re playing a part in a play.” He touched her shoulder reassuringly and Marinette felt her heart skip a beat. “The first time I did this was when I was a kid. I used to be really scared of the camera, but my mother helped me be able to add my own style to being photographed. After that, I didn’t find it as scary anymore—it was more like a game I’m playing.” Adrien explained. Marinette returned his smile, his sincere speech soothing to her nerves. It was a shame she was pretending to be someone else. Adrien seemed like a good person who would make a wonderful friend.
“I see. Your mother sounds very kind and fun.” Marinette smiled, and Adrien was struck by how pretty it was. His cheeks turned a red hue as he coughed, hiding his face from her view.
“A-anyway! We should get to the set!” he grabbed her hand to lead her to the set, but his traitorous thoughts told him Cho’s hand was very soft and he felt his ears redden in betrayal. Felix eyed them critically as he examined their interaction from the stage. It appeared he hadn’t ratted Marinette out as everyone was acting normal like she was still Cho, so she was safe for now.
She stood in between Felix and Adrien as the photographer directed their positions. Marinette eyed the camera in dismay, as her cover will be blown when the pictures come out. She squeezed her eyes shut, fists clenched at her sides. Why was she so useless? Plagg was in trouble and here she was stuck and unable to do anything for him!
“Calm down.” Felix whispered. Marinette snapped her eyes open and turned her gaze to him in shock. The boy refused to look at her, instead choosing to face ahead towards the camera as they snapped pictures. He maneuvered himself to place a hand on her shoulder and got close to her ear. The photographer squeed at the display, not realizing Felix was actually speaking to her. “Just play pretend like Adrien said. It will be over soon enough.” Marinette’s eyes widened.
He was trying to comfort her? Even though he knew she wasn’t the actual male model? She looked between the Agreste brothers curiously, and couldn’t help a happy smile appear on her face. They were both so kind…
“Yes Cho! That smile is beautiful! Look at the friendship between you three! The chemistry is amazing! Give me more of that comrade vibe!” Adrien and Felix moved closer to her with their best smiles and the photographer ate it up like a child with a bowl of candy.
A sound of clapping interrupted the shoot, and everyone turned to see Gabriel Agreste standing beside the woman that dragged Marinette to the set earlier. He had a prideful smile on his face, but Marinette couldn’t help but shiver at the cold essence in his eyes. It didn’t match his outward appearance at all. It felt like an act.
“Excellent! I knew pairing my sons with a new upstart would come out grand.” Gabriel commented. Everyone gave him smiles, even Adrien who beamed at his father’s praise, except Felix and Marinette, the latter who felt sick at his performance. The oldest Agreste approached the three and Marinette had the urge to hide behind Adrien and Felix, but didn’t to keep up the act.
Gabriel’s frosty eyes locked onto her and Marinette gulped. Gabriel kept his smile in place, but Marinette felt like she was drowning in freezing water. She barely registered Felix moving closer to her, as if sensing her unease. Gabriel didn’t seem to notice as he placed a hand on her shoulder. The gleam of the Black Cat Miraculous shinning from his finger. Marinette held in a gasp, eyes widening at the realization she didn’t want to accept rearing its ugly head in her face.
“My boy, you will have a bright future with this company. I’m sure of it.” Gabriel praised her. Marinette resisted the urge to squirm under his hold. She tried to keep herself from staring at her Miraculous on his finger. The Miraculous that was rightfully hers. She could feel Plagg’s energy thrumming through her veins from being close to her ring.
‘You thief!’ Marinette snarled in her mind. She wanted to kick, scream, and bite him like a vicious animal. She could feel Plagg’s sadness at being taken away from her. His hatred for being trapped with Gabriel—Hawkmoth—and her fury ignited like an inferno. ‘That’s mine! You stole it from me!’
Nonetheless, she did not reveal her righteous fury. She had come this far—she would not fail Plagg.
“Thank you, Monsieur!” Marinette thanked him with a sweet smile, biting her cheek to resist spitting on his pristine suit. “I look forward to learning under your guidance and becoming even more miraculous.” She felt Plagg’s energy warm at her proximity. Excitement ran through her veins at the prospect of wielding him again and putting an end to Hawkmoth.
A flicker of suspicion sparked into Gabriel’s eyes before he smiled down at her again. Suspicion, and dare Marinette say it, fear making Marinette want to purr. Good. He should be afraid. She would not allow Plagg’s kidnapping to go unpunished. He let go of her shoulder, and Marinette hoped the brief contact was able to soothe her kwami that she wasn’t abandoning him.
Gabriel retreated with his assistant and Marinette narrowed her eyes, intent to follow them. The photographer called everyone to take this places as Gabriel was leaving. Marinette’s eyes widened. She couldn’t let Gabriel get away with Plagg!
Suddenly, she felt someone discreetly push her to the ground, her face hitting the floor hard. People cried out in concern at her fall, but she was too consumed with the loss of Plagg to care. She didn’t register anything but Plagg’s desperation to get away until she felt someone grabbed her by the arm and another hand settling on her back to steady her until she heard a voice.
“We’re going to take Cho to get checked out by the nurse before we continue.” Felix’s voice rang out. He was the one holding her arm and leading her away.
“Yeah. That fall was pretty harsh. I’ll go too to help him.” Adrien added, and Marinette felt his warm hand on her back. They led her away from the commotion and into a private hallway. Felix released her, and Adrien steadied her.
“What was that?” Marinette choked out, wanting to cry at the realization that she might not be able to save Plagg after all. Felix crossed his arms while Adrien looked concerned.
“We should be asking you the same thing.” Felix said. “You looked at our father like you wanted to claw his eyes out.”
“Did Father do something to you, Cho?” Adrien asked, touching her arm. “I know Father isn’t the best person to get along with, but the way you looked at each other was like you were ready to enter into battle with each other.”
‘That’s because we are.’ Marinette thought wryly. She sighed and ran a hand through her now short hair, wishing she had the familiarity of her pigtails to soothe her. “I… I’m not Cho.”
Felix and Adrien looked at her curiously and in shock. Felix didn’t think she was going to reveal herself and Adrien because if this person wasn’t Cho, then who were they?
“Your father… he has something of mine.” Marinette couldn’t bring herself to tell them he was Hawkmoth. She didn’t want to be responsible for bringing them into her fight—her war. “I… it’s really important to me. I need it back.”
“Well we can ask Father to give it back to you.” Adrien promised, not one to believe that his father was capable of stealing, despite the rocky relationship they have. Felix on the other hand knew his father wasn’t a saint for the way he neglects them. Marinette shook her head.
“It’s not that simple. I’ve tried… he refuses.” Marinette clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms at the memory of losing Plagg. It was like a part of her soul was ripped away from her. She knew her and Plagg would sometimes clash, or sometimes he would encourage her to do things that weren’t exactly for a model hero, but she knew that Plagg cherished her and she cherished him. She loved the times they had, through better or for worse. Hell, she’d take every ounce of bad luck that Plagg would accidentally project onto her if it meant she could be with him again.
“We’ll get it back then.” Adrien vowed determined. Marinette’s eyes widened at his willingness to help her. He took her hands into his and squeezed them in comfort “It’s important to you. And Father has no right to refuse you something that rightfully belongs to you.”  He told her. He stroked her hands, willing his presence to soothe her. Marinette smiled, and Adrien’s heart skipped at beat.
“Before we do this, what’s your name?” Felix asked, staring straight into her soul. “Since you’re not Cho, we have a right to know who you really are.”
“I…” Marinette bit her lip, debating on what to tell them. Should she reveal her name? Her superhero name? Should she give them an alias? Somehow though, it didn’t seem right to lie. They were willing to get themselves in trouble with Hawkmoth, despite not knowing who their father really was. She had to return the favor.
“I’m Marinette.” She spoke quietly, as if afraid if she spoke louder she would shatter the fragile alliance they shared. Adrien’s eyes widened as he quickly let go of her hands, blushing like a Christmas light. Felix also had a surprised look on his face, and Marinette wasn’t sure if she saw a red flush on his cheeks or not because he quickly looked away.
“Y-You’re a girl?” Adrien spluttered. Marinette giggled and gave a wink.
“Yup! I make a good boy though, no?” she teased, striking a pose and Adrien and Felix—though he would never admit it—blushed harder.
‘It should be illegal to be that cute in a suit!’
“Alright then, Marinette.” Felix coughed, being the first to recover. “What is it that we’re looking for?” Marinette had a determined look on her face.
“The ring he’s wearing. It’s mine.” She answered.
“Father said he got it from an antique shop.” Adrien supplied. Marinette hissed, and her eyes narrowed.
“He’s a liar. He got it from me.” Adrien however wasn’t afraid of her.
‘Is it possible to find someone attractive even when they’re angry at your father?’ he thought.
“So how do we get it back?” Felix asked. Marinette smirked, and Felix ignored that damn skip in his heartbeat.
“Follow my lead.”
------------------------------
It turned out that Gabriel didn’t wear the ring all the time. He kept it secured in his office and Adrien and Felix were able to distract him with the real unconscious Cho. She crept into the office, the Black Cat Miraculous calling out to her. In his haste, like she predicted, Gabriel did not put on her Miraculous to keep close to him. She grinned in excitement, slipping the ring onto its rightful owner, and Plagg burst to life once more. They both purred in happiness as they reunited, Plagg nuzzling her cheek.
“Please tell me you have some fresh cheese danishes at home.” Plagg begged. Marinette chuckled. “Anything for you, kitty.” She promised. Plagg purred in satisfaction.
“Plagg! Claws Out!” she shouted, and felt the familiar sensation of being transformed once more. She could feel her body vibrating with a violent purr all over her body, but didn’t care. She was so happy to have her Miraculous back.
“Let’s go home.”
She burst out of the office and skidded to a stop as she came face to face with Adrien and Felix, who were watching her with wide eyes—Felix’s was with shock and Adrien’s was with awe.
“Cheshire!” Adrien exclaimed, his eyes sparkling in excitement. Felix also watched her with interest.
“Um! Hello Citizens! I heard some imposter was running around at your photoshoot and I came to help!” Cheshire lied, her heart pounding a mile a minute. She wanted to reveal herself but she knew it would be too dangerous. This was her war, and hers alone. Despite the kindness they showed her, she knew she would never see them again. She then proceeded to run down the hallway. “I’ll be gone now! The imposter has made her escape, so I have to follow her! Au revoir!”
--------------------
Felix and Adrien watched their father storm around, demanding to know how everyone didn’t notice an imposter was running around so easily. Meanwhile, the photographer sobbed at his camera being destroyed by some unforeseen force, as it laid in a pile of ashes at his feet. The twins chanced a look at each other.
“It’s a shame we don’t have a photo to remember her by.” Adrien commented. Felix chose not to comment, but he noticed the atmosphere seemed distinctly dimmer without Marinette around.
“I’m sure we can find a way to make more.” Felix replied, and Adrien raised an eyebrow at him, a smirk beginning to birth on his face, catching the meaning behind his brother’s statement.
“I wouldn’t mind making more memories with Marinette either.”
---------------------
It was Monday again and Marinette groaned at having to walk up early for classes. She stretched in her seat, knowing that she would no doubt be seduced into taking a cat nap when lectures start. Alya laughed beside her.
“Rough weekend?” she asked. Marinette smiled softly. “Love the hair, by the way.”
“Thanks. And you could say that. Made some friends.”
“Really? Maybe you should introduce us sometime. Were they cute?” Alya asked. Marinette laughed.
“Very handsome, but I don’t think we’ll be seeing each other again.” Marinette said, sadness in her eyes. Alya seemed to have seen the unshed tears and hugged her friend.
“Hey, it maybe only once, but you’ll have those memories forever, and that is proof of your friendship and the precious time you guys had.” Alya soothed. Marinette grinned, wiping her tears.
“You’re right! They’ll always be with me forever, even if we don’t see each other again.” Marinette laughed. And it was true—she would never forget Adrien and Felix’s kindness towards her. “I’m just a little sad I never got to say goodbye.”
“Well, maybe that’s a good thing.” Alya responded, “Then that means you are never truly gone to them.”
“Yeah.” Marinette gave her warmest smile, and Alya hugged her once more. She hoped that Felix and Adrien were happy, and that they had done something truly courageous by aiding her in getting her Miraculous back. She felt Plagg’s warmth through their bond, and breathed a sigh of relief that he will never be parted from her again. She’ll beat Gabriel Agreste and bring him to justice no matter what.
Maybe then she will be able to tell Felix and Adrien thank you for all they done.
“Class, settle down.” The teacher commanded, and each student gave her their attention. Mademoiselle Bustier smiled at her students and gestured to the door. “Today we have two new students. Now, I know you may know them from magazines and social media but please don’t overwhelm them with your excitement. Come in, boys.”
The door opened, and gasps and squeals were made when they saw who the two new students were, but Marinette gave a squeak and fell out of her seat. Two pairs of green eyes—one warm and one cool—had a twinkle of amusement spark in them at her display.
“Girl, you okay?” Alya helped her up. Marinette didn’t answer as she could only gape as Adrien and Felix introduced themselves to the class. Was this really happening?
“Maybe she got struck by cupid’s arrow.” Nino whispered, snickering. Alya swatted him away with a smile.
“The reason we came here was because we wanted to be with our best friend.” Adrien told the class, who were listening attentively. Chloe preened, thinking they obviously meant her as she was childhood friends with them, but Adrien’s eyes practically shined, and his grin widened when he caught eyes with Marinette. “There she is! Marinette, it’s so good to see you again!” Adrien announced, and the entire room gaped at her. Marinette wanted to sink into a hole. Her face was bright red from embarrassment.
‘They can’t be serious! This possibly can’t get any worse!’
“Hey, move. We’re sitting here.” Felix told Alya, who gave them a raised eyebrow like they grew three heads each.
“Um Monsieur Agreste, the seats are only meant for two people at a time.” Mademoiselle Bustier told them, confused. Felix shrugged, and Adrien waved it off, grinning.
“That’s okay! We’ll just sit extra close to all fit!”
Marinette sunk lower in her seat, covering her face as she felt Plagg cackle in her purse.

Ayakashi Gohan Okawari!: Human route, Spring (Part one)
Tumblr media
Spring, April
It’s now April and we’ve become high school seniors. I headed towards the classrooms with Uta, Yomi, Suou, and Haginosuke, same as always.
Rin: (It’s been a while since I’ve walked down these halls.)
Haginosuke: “The new semester makes you super excited doesn’t it. It is the season of new beginnings after all~”
Yomi: “...That being said, our grade only has one class though.”
Suou: “I have to see your faces all day again? How boring.”
Yomi: “That should be my line. Also, haven’t you been yawning a bit too much this morning?”
Rin: (I get to start the new semester with all my close friends. It may be something normal for others but for me, it’s my first time. It makes me feel kinda nervous.)
--------
Yomi: “So, this is our new classroom? ...It doesn’t really feel any different.”
Haginosuke: “All of the classrooms are set up the same way.”
Suou: “Jeez, how boring can this get.”
Male classmate 1: “Oh, hey, you guys, It’s been a while!”
Uta: “Hey, what’s up!”
Female classmate 1: “You too, Akane-san! Good morning~!”
Rin: “G-Good morning.”
Yomi: “Good grief, you humans are so loud in the morning…”
Female classmate 1: “Ah, Inushima-kun, that isn’t your seat.”
Yomi: “...? What do you mean?”
Female classmate 1: “Since it’s a new school year and all, we’re gonna be changing seats too. There, look at the blackboard.”
Haginosuke: “Oh, you’re right. There’s a new seating chart written on the board.”
Uta: “Hmm, so this is what you call “changing seats”.”
Suou: “My seat better be next to a window with a good amount of sun. I absolutely refuse if it’s next to the cold hallways.”
Rin: (Changing seats, huh... Um, my seat is…)
Haginosuke: “Seems like you get the seat all the way in the back, next to the window, Rin! How nice~ That’s the best seat in the class!”
Rin: “Eh? It is?”
Haginosuke: “Yeah. I mean, look, if you get bored in the middle of class, you can relax and stare out the window as a change of pace...”
Uta: “It’s the best spot for taking a nap on nice, sunny days too! Ugh, I’m so jealous!”
Yomi: “What in the world do you two even come to school for…”
Suou: “...Hey you, Rin, trade seats with me. You can have my seat next to the hallway.”
Rin: “Eh, w-we can’t do that…!”
Haginosuke: “Yeah, yeah, just give it up and sit in your seat, Suou!”
Suou: “Grrr…”
Rin: (It’s just like everyone to get so lively just because of a single seat. Now then, I should get to my new seat too. So this is my new desk… It’s true that sitting all the way in the back feels pretty nice. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside… The hard part is that I probably will get sleepy on sunny days.)
...hm?
(There’s something carved onto my desk… What is that? It looks like an animal…. A fox? Or maybe a racoon? Hehe, it’s kind of similar to Tsuzuru-kun’s doodles)
Teacher: “Alright, kids~ Time to sit down~ The opening ceremony is about to start but… before that, I’d like to introduce a new transfer student.”
Male classmate 1: “A transfer student?”
Female classmate 1: “Wow~ We haven’t had a transfer student since Akane-san got here!”
Uta: “Is there gonna be another student?”
Haginosuke: “I wonder what kind of person it is?”
Teacher: “Kimura, come in”
Rin: (Wah… He has such pretty features. His silky smooth hair is also really charming. He gives off a strange vibe, like everyone’s eyes just naturally land on him…)
Teacher: “Kimura, Introduce yourself”
???: “Okay. It’s nice to meet you all, my name is Kimura Asagi. I’ve moved here due to my father’s job. Please treat me well.”
Teacher: “Get along well with him, you guys.”
Male classmate 1: “Okay!”
Female classmate 1: “It’s nice to meet ya~”
Teacher: “For your seat… seems like the one next to Akane is empty. For now, you can sit there.”
Asagi: “Okay.”
Rin: (Eh? Next to me?)
Asagi: “What’s your name?”
Rin: “My name is… Akane Rin.”
Asagi: “Rin, huh? It’s nice to meet you.”
Rin: “...!”
(I-It made my heart skip a beat being called by my first name all of a sudden)
Uta: “Wha--!?”
Suou: “Unya…?”
Uta: “W-What’s with this guy…! Calling her “Rin” the first second he gets here!”
Suou: “There’s an extent to how over-familiar you can get. What a creepy guy.”
Haginosuke: “Uta, Suou, calm down. You shouldn’t glare at him like that. He’s probably feeling lonely having just moved here and all.”
Uta: “Keh”
Suou:  “...hmph”
Yomi: “Hah… The new school year has just started and it’s already so noisy.”
Rin: (Uta and Suou are glaring at Kimura pretty intensely. I’m worried… I wonder what this feeling I get is though. The way the air feels around him… It’s like he, himself gives me a nostalgic feeling. It’s like he’s an old friend whom I met with often…)
--------
The opening ceremony quickly ends and now, it’s finally time to go home.
Kimura: “Rin, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Rin: “Ah, yeah. See you tomorrow.”
Uta: “Rin! C’mon, we’re leaving”
Suou: “I’m hungry. Guess, I’ll get something to eat at the restaurant. Rin, let’s go.”
Rin: “Eh!? W-wait a second, you guys.”
Haginosuke: “Hey, you two! You can’t just drag a girl around against her will like that…”
Rin: “Kya!?”
(W-What!? There’s something flying in through the window along with the sudden wind…)
Uta: “!? Hey, Rin! Ouch…”
Rin: “U-Uta!”
Haginosuke: “W-What? There was suddenly a strong wind and then it looked like something flew in from the window but…”
Yomi: “...Was it this?”
Suou: “...nuts?”
Uta: “How did something like this get blown in? Is this what they call the first storm of spring?”
Yomi: “That’s impossible. The timing is off.”
Rin: “...Uta, thanks for protecting me. Are you okay?”
Uta: “No worries. It was like getting bitten by a mosquito.”
Rin: (But this nut has thorns. It looks painful. If a human like me were hit with it, I probably would’ve gotten seriously injured considering how fast it flew in thanks to the wind. I’m thankful that Uta protected me but…)
Yomi: “...Hopefully this isn’t the work of something supernatural.”
Haginosuke: “Hm? Did you say something, Yomi?”
Yomi: “No.”
Rin: (Supernatural… does he mean it might’ve been an ayakashi? ...No, I’m probably overthinking it. It was just a random gust of wind…)
Suou: “How long are you guys planning to stand here and talk? Let’s go already.”
Uta: “Shoot, you’re right! Let’s get going, Rin!”
Rin: “O-okay.”
--------
Uta: “Hah… it’s only the first day and I’m already all riled up. What is up with that Kimura guy?”
Rin: “Uta, you shouldn’t talk about something you just met with that kind of tone. I’m sure he’s a really nice person. He had a really carefree laugh…”
Suou: “I thought all the hair on my body would stand up just by seeing his smiling face.”
Haginosuke: “Hm~? Isn’t that just because he’s so cool and you’re jealous?”
Suou: “What are you talking about, you piece of red bean rice cake. There’s no way I could be jealous of that guy.”
Uta: “What part of him is cool? Let’s be real, I’m totally way cooler~”
Yomi: “Heh.”
Uta: “Yomi, you lil--! You just snickered at me didn’t you!”
Yomi: “It’s just your imagination.”
Uta: “Jeez, you really aren’t cute at all. Argh, now I’m even more hungry ‘cuz I’m all mad.”
Suou: “You got it backwards. You’re getting really angry because you’re hungry.”
Yomi: “Does it even matter which way it is?”
Haginosuke: “Haha, you’re right.”
Rin: (The new semester has just started and it kinda seems like there’s already a lot of trouble brewing…)
Choice
1. Sigh (Uta ♥↑) 2. Talk to yourself (Haginosuke ♥↑) 3. Look up at the sky (Suou ♥↑)
1. Sigh (Uta ♥↑)
Rin: “Hah…”
Uta: “What are you sighing about, Rin?”
Rin: “...You’re usually really friendly with the boys and girls in the class, aren’t you? Why do you act like that only towards Kimura-kun?”
Uta: “Eh? That’s ‘cuz… It feels like… He’s gonna take you away from me or something…”
Rin: “Eh?
Uta: “...I didn’t say anything! Anyway, I just don’t mesh well with him, okay!”
Rin: (What is he so flustered about…? How weird.)
--------
2. Talk to yourself (Haginosuke ♥↑)
Rin: “If only everyone could just get along…”
Haginosuke: “Right? I think so too.”
Rin: “!? You were listening to me?”
Haginosuke: “Sorry, I overheard it. But, I see you’re pretty worried about Kimura, huh?”
Rin: “Yeah… Since he’s already transferred here and all, I’d really like for him to think about how fun it is living here. Kind of like me…”
Haginosuke: “Then, How about this? You and I should try and make situations that makes everyone want to get along with him. If we do that, I think it should start to become natural for them to want to act like that.”
Rin: “You’re right…! Thank you, Haginosuke.”
--------
3. Look up at the sky (Suou ♥↑)
Rin: (Hah… I wonder if the new semester will go okay like this?)
Suou: “What’s wrong? If you look up at the sun like that, you’ll have to sneeze.”
Rin: “I-I’m fine. More importantly, why are you acting so cold towards Kimura-kun?”
Suou: “Because I’d be annoyed if he started talking to or touching you all willy-nilly even though you’re mine.”
Rin: “Eh? What are you saying?”
Suou: “...hmph. There’s no deeper meaning to what I said. Now, let’s hurry up and get to the restaurant. I’m starving here.”
Rin: (He’s hard to understand as always…)

Contrary to all the whining and complaining that ensues at the start of each grueling summer year, it truly is the beginning of the most thrilling months.
A time when, despite the startlingly tremendous surge of obnoxious, vape-induced teenagers hoarding the boardwalk like flies drawn to an outdoor barbeque, and the influx of ignorant young children flopping through the ocean waves like they are training to become fish, there is always a milieu of genuine elation hanging in the air.
This constant joy—whether it is emanating from the relaxation that oozes from unwinding vacationers flooding the beach and boardwalk, continuous hours wasted away doing nothing and days melting into one another, or simply the enkindling of town—makes up for all the downsides that arise with the start of summer.
Over years of enduring this unnamed cycle of life, you have come to appreciate that there are four types of joy; the expected, the unexpected, the habitual, and the unknown.
The expected—a joy with which you are familiar and the elation it will give you.
The unexpected—aware of the plan, but not expecting the joy that will result from it.
The habitual—occurring so frequently that, while still appealing, is more of a routine rather than a new and exciting experience.
And the unknown—any choice resulting in a different ending, a different joy.
However, despite recognizing these, the unknown sort of joy is the most enigmatic because, named for this specific reason, you never know when it is happening or when it will be.
Even so, one such occurrence is most certainly not a habitual joy. Rather, a royal pain in your ass: when Kim Jinae, in an effort that you could never grasp entirely, decides to wake not only herself but also the two of you up at a time that you should most definitely still be dead asleep nearly every day during your months off.
“You know,” you huff, deeply inhaling the morning ocean hair to fill your lungs. Your body is sagging in sheer exhaustion as you follow her peppy steps—how is she still so fired up?—a few feet behind, sneakers skidding lazily against the worn wood of the boardwalk. "I really miss when your shift was in the morning, and we worked out at night. I hope you know I hate you for guilt-tripping me into this."
Jinae scoffs, coming to a stop and whipping around. “I’m sorry, but who wants to spend the whole damn day down at the beach? And who guilt-tripped who into switching shifts?”
You huff heavily, accepting defeat because she's right, but you would never tell her. You look away to peek at the waves approaching the shore nearly a football field away that reflect apricots and azaleas on the horizon from the remaining sunrise. Your irritated thoughts are replaced with the wonder of today’s plan. “Speaking of, what are we doing today?”
“I don’t know,” she shrugs. You make a mental note to never ask her anything again because—Lord knows—Jinae is zero help. “I assumed we were just doing the usual.”
You sigh, following her silently down the wooden steps from the boardwalk, the ocean now faintly hushed behind you. You wipe away a bead of sweat dripping down from your hairline. “Can you make breakfast before I have to leave?”
Jinae mutters something under her breath, then twists around to face you. “You’re a real brat, you know?”
You beam. “Learned it from the best.”
Your first joy, practically your best friend since you could walk, quite possibly your soulmate—Kim Jinae.
Tumblr media
While some days do in fact seem to drag on endlessly, working only four hours a day and four days a week during the summer months is a bargain worth paying for and an opportunity sent by the heavens. It pays what your parents don’t, you tell yourself when service is slow and customers bark at you as if you’re the one doing the cooking. A little extra in the cookie jar, you whisper under your breath after covering eight tables at once, shifting uncomfortably in your uniform as perspiration dribbles down your spine while darting from the sweltering kitchen to each consecutive table.
However, most days seemingly fly by. After all, eight to twelve are prime breakfast hours, and so the quaint diner is not half as cruel as some prior jobs. Not to mention, it is right on the boardwalk, which makes meeting up with Jinae for the rest of the day well spent at the beach even simpler.
Upon setting down the check for your last table and offering a polite farewell, you scan the room curiously until, after a few seconds of concern, your gaze lands on a certain busboy setting down silverware on a recently cleaned booth. "Hey Markipooh," you coo, greeting the unacceptably gorgeous brunette and sliding across the tiled marble floor to stand beside him and to help finish laying out paper placemats.
Mark Tuan—the Devil in Disguise. During your first few days at the new job, you were quietly aware of the only other employee that took advantage of the locker room, initially an exceptionally attractive blonde who had not even graced you with a glance since you started.
That was, until hardly a week later, you found yourself packing up for the day when he entered to do the same.
“Woah, you’re a brunette now.” It slipped out before your brain could truly even process the sentence, gears positively malfunctioning in your head because God, he’s hot but God, you’re an idiot. He blinked, running a hand through his darkened locks and eyeing you curiously for an agonizingly long heartbeat before he straightforwardly said, “It’s pink, actually.”
Oh, so he’s sarcastic. “Hilarious,” you retorted, watching curiously as he made way for his own locker. “I’m glad to see that you do in fact talk, though.”
He laughed lightly, a percussion that made your heart soar. He disregarded a chiming notification from his phone to stare intensely back at your inquiring gaze, saying, “Is that what keeps you up at night? Whether or not your incredibly hot co-worker is mute?”
You wrinkled your nose. “Don’t flatter yourself, you're not that special.”
And so, it came to be that the busboy was not who he seemed to be. Like two puzzle pieces that fit together seamlessly, you clicked with Mark so quickly that even Jinae seemed to impatiently grow jealous. Tirelessly cunning, Mark is a perfect force against your own quick-wittedness. However, he is a precious munchkin of a boy when he wants to be. The fact that he has not only been to but has lived in so many places in the span of twenty-four years, plus his expansive knowledge of more languages than you could ever possibly grasp, has heartily drawn you in until, you have realized your second joy—Mark Tuan.
And here you are, hardly two months later.
Instead of replying verbally, Mark only glares at you coldly before, finally, "You're going to use that against me for the rest of my life, aren't you?"
You grin mischievously at the mathematics major—well, the mathematics major working on his Master’s, as he likes to remind you at every chance that presents itself—and follow him once he makes way to the otherwise empty locker room.
“Probably,” you chuckle while slipping the suffocatingly hot sneakers off your feet. You check the door behind you once more before peeling your top and bra off and replacing them with the navy-blue bathing suit top shoved haphazardly into your locker. You add, “It’s really funny seeing you get annoyed.”
“It’s really funny seeing you get annoyed,” Mark mimics under his breath, voice uncharacteristically high to impersonate your own, as you slip a plain tee-shirt from high school over your head. “I had to become friends with the spawn of Satan, of all people.”
You laugh, shimmying out of your pants and underwear and swiftly pulling up the matching bathing suit bottoms. “You know I love you.”
“Nuh-uh,” Mark grumbles from somewhere behind you. You are too preoccupied with trying to fold your clothes as nicely as possible into your bag. He continues, “Don’t pull that shit on me. Just ‘cos you’re a senior now doesn’t mean I’m gonna deal with your crap.”
“Just because you’re a senior now,” you mimic as he had, only he interrupts your shenanigans with a hard punch to your arm as the two of you head outside. “Anyway,” he sighs, ignoring your scowl and pausing to inhale the briny aroma that never seems to leave the thick ocean air, “I don’t know what your plans are, but some of my friends are working at a joint that opened recently, and I was hoping you’d come?”
“Is this just another sneaky plan to hang out with Jinae?” You chuckle, digging into his side with your elbow. He gasps, “Hey! Maybe I’m just being a nice friend.”
“Oh, yeah, a friend,” you snort. At the genuine pout that clouds his expression, however, you stop and hook your arm through his. “Don’t worry, I promised I would be your wingwoman, didn’t I?”
Mark sighs, shrugging. Then he says, “Why couldn’t I have fallen for you instead?”
With a noise of amusement and disbelief that sounds like something between a snicker and a choke, you rest your head against his bicep momentarily before glancing up at him. “You’re too hot for me.”
“Sure, and pigs fly. I’m actually kind of worried that my friends are going to pounce on you.”
You scoff. “Yeah, okay. Speaking of, who are these friends of yours?”
“Oh!” Mark exclaims, visibly brightening, his white teeth dazzling as he smiles. “So there’s six of ‘em. We all ended up meeting each other at the studio for the first dance class.”
“Pause,” you interject, surprised. “They all go to the same school as us?”
He nods eagerly. “They’re all getting their Master’s, too. Youngjae just graduated with Jinae, and I think BamBam is in your class. Yugyeom is a grade below, I believe.”
Your jaw nearly hits the floor. “BamBam? Like, the—”
“The really cute, bubbly loudmouth?”
“Yeah! You’re friends with BamBam?” You gape. What a small world, you think. When you glance up you happen to notice Jinae waving like a madwoman several feet ahead. You wave back, however, Mark’s snort interrupts you. “What?” He says. “Am I not cool enough to be friends with him?”
You giggle. Though it is tempting to agree, you do not feel like delving into a full roasting session. You instead opt for, “No, shut up and stop being insecure. I was just surprised. I never spoke with him, but we had calculus together.”
Mark only hums in agreement. You assume that by reaching Jinae he has suddenly clammed up. You clear your throat. “Jinae! Mark has plans for us!”
Whether Mark notices it or not, you certainly catch the way Jinae’s face brightens, her enchanting brown eyes scrunching in delight. They’re so into one another, you think, just as she gushes, “No way! Let’s go, then! Where at?”
Your gut truly twists as a result of the saccharine sweetness between the two, an indisputable and perpetual attracting force that all people but the pair can recognize. In an instant, you clear your throat after a disgustingly long amount of time passes of them just staring at each other before you end up with a cavity. “C’mon, then. I’m not going to wait all day.”
Mark jolts, turning to you as the apples of his cheeks bloom pink. He scratches the back of his neck. “Yeah—Yeah, let’s go.”
You cannot help the satisfied smirk that comes with him rushing ahead and Jinae positively melting into a pile of mush. You snort, patting her flushed cheeks and following Mark’s speedy path ahead of Jinae’s delayed trailing.
Tumblr media
Like most shops and grills lining the boardwalk, JJ’s—as you learned several minutes later once the two bounced back after whatever happened moments ago—is just the same.
With an entirely open entrance, aside from two small table-and-chair sets halfway on the boardwalk and halfway under the ceiling and walls painted butterscotch orange, the grill is squeezed between an unnecessarily expensive jewelry store and a bustling candy shop. The mouthwatering aroma of bulgogi and honey soy filling your senses is a grand contrast to the briny odor from outside. It’s so small you wonder if customers even order to stay, yet it is not cramped in any way—within a space of ten feet, give or take, there is shelving on each set of parallel walls, wide enough to dine at, with two metal chairs tucked in front, a black refrigerator stocked with cold drinks, the counter, which is checkered marble and decorated with a change jar and a vase of snapdragons, is to the right of a sliding barn door painted with doodles of the beach and a lighthouse.
Beyond the counter is a small kitchen with deep fryers to the left and three large aluminum dishes full of fried chicken resting on an island in the middle of the room. The archway that leads to an unknown area occupying the rest of the space is blocked by a plain maroon curtain; with one last scan of the quaint space and another deep inhale, you conclude that, even before tasting anything, this may be your new favorite place to eat.
Your captivated daze is cut short by the voice working behind the counter.
“Mark-hyung!” None other than BamBam calls from his perch on a stool, silver hair pushed up and over his forehead in a messy comma-shaped style. Mark scoffs, “Stop calling me hyung in front of my friends. It makes me feel old.”
“Is that Mark?” Shouts a disembodied voice as BamBam hops from his seat and slides open the drawn-on door. You glance to Jinae, whose baffled expression most certainly mirrors your own, just as said voice bolts over to greet your eldest friend.
“Mark!” Roars an unreasonably attractive brunette, shoving BamBam to the side so roughly that you lean back a bit just to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself.
“Jesus, you guys are so fake. Stop putting on a show. My friends are normal,” huffs Mark, sending the loud newcomer a condescending glare. Just as you begin to think you have gone invisible, he twists to you with a beaming boyish grin that reaches his eyes. “Jackson, BamBam, this is ___,” he says, introducing you and resting his palm on the small of your back. “and Jinae,” he adds.
“Hello!” Shouts another figure who you had not spotted working behind the counter. Like BamBam and this Jackson, he too is classically handsome, and you practically feel your stomach twist into knots at the sudden intensity of it all, not one but four strikingly gorgeous young men—where have they been your whole life?—in one room that is most definitely tinier now, and you cannot breathe, and there’s still three more you have yet to meet?
“Hey.” BamBam’s chirpy voice—having not heard it since sophomore year, you reckon that it matches the sweetness of his facial features—interrupts your short-lived tizzy of emotions. “weren’t you in my calculus class?”
“Yeah, that would be me,” you nod, smiling in response to his own heartwarming grin. “I didn’t know you lived around here.”
“Youngjae?” Jinae’s gasp cuts into BamBam’s potential answer. Evident surprise is laced in her tone as the aforementioned employee rounds the counter. Your gaze flicks back and forth from her and Mark to his three friends, not knowing where to focus. You decide on Jackson—Hell, he’s nice to look at—and find yourself thanking the heavens that fate has made it so Mark entered your life and has ultimately led you to a much too small grill, containing way too many blessed genes all at once.
“You look lost,” says the brunette god himself, catching on to your hazy staring and shuffling to stand beside you, “not that I blame you.” You laugh lightly, dragging your gaze from the distracting way his dark hair falls over his forehead to Jinae and Youngjae bubbling away, something about not having seen one another since graduation, and how they both will be working on their Master’s. Finally you look to Mark, who stands beside BamBam with an expression of delight gracing his features, watching two separate groups of friends intermingle.
“Yeah, this is a bit much,” you admit at last, refocusing on him once the cogs inside your brain begin working again. “I like it, though.”
Jackson grins widely and you positively swoon. He laughs. “Sorry to break it to you, but if you’ve survived three years avoiding Bam, your life is probably going to go downhill from here.”
“Hey!” The plump-lipped model—oh, he could definitely be a model parading down the runway with that face—cuts in, his brows drawn together in mock irritation. You choke, making a noise of surprise when he continues, pulling you into a tight side hug. “This is the beginning of the best chapters of their lives.”
“Keep dreaming, bud,” Mark snorts, slapping his shoulder. You watch from under his chin as BamBam frowns, shooting your friend a glare that could most definitely kill if it weren’t for the dazzling grin that follows.
“Where’s everyone else?” Mark questions as BamBam unwinds his arms from around you—why do they have to be hot and nice?
“Dad and Dad are trying to fix the sink and Yugyeom is...” Jackson says. Rubbing at his bottom lip, he trails off, looking to Youngjae and BamBam. “Where is Yugyeom?”
“I think he went to get chocolate milk,” Youngjae chuckles, dark hair falling over his eye as he does so. “You know how he is.” You look to Jackson, whispering, “Who’s Dad and Dad?”
“Jaebum and Jinyoung. They own this place, plus we’re all pretty certain that they’re an item, so we call them that. They’re in the back,” he explains, nodding to the archway. At this, you hear the muffled noises bustling from behind the curtain that you had not noticed beforehand.
“And Yugyeom?”
“Oh,” Jackson smirks again—trouble—and makes his way back to the counter, “He’s the big ol’ goof. You’ll like him.”
“You guys have bubble tea, right?” Mark changes the subject as Youngjae and BamBam follow Jackson. With them not clustered around you any longer, you take another moment to glance all around, pausing your meandering to glance over the options on the menu. Fried chicken, tacos, rice bowls, kimchi fried riceballs... kimchi cheese fries? You jab your elbow into Jinae's side, nodding to the overhanging menu, "Kimchi cheese fries, dude."
"That's definitely not part of my diet."
"Oh, fuck the diet," you hiss, earning a sharp glare, but you roll your eyes nevertheless.
"No, the bubble tea menu is just there for fun," Jackson snorts, finally responding to Mark’s question and grinning like a madman. Youngjae is howling, smiling so bright you fear his whole jaw may break. "Hilarious," Mark grumbles, turning to you for backup. When he finds you mirroring Jackson's expression, though, he frowns. "This was a mistake."
"Oh, lighten up," you coo, ruffling his parted hair, but he smacks your hand away with a huff. You roll your eyes and look to BamBam, who stands ready for your order. You say, "I'll have a large black milk with tapioca and, uh, hm—a chicken rice bowl."
"Sure," he hums, tapping the screen. "That's gonna be fifteen ninety-one.”
"Make it ten," Jackson butts in, grinning like he just won the lottery. Oh, you're burning up now. You smile to the floor but hide it as you fish for money in your pocket. "Thanks," you manage to croak out, passing the cash to BamBam. After he’s finished, he smacks Jackson on the shoulder, muttering something about his discounts for hot girls putting them out of business, which causes the elder to howl in faux pain while shuffling to the archway to yell back your order. You watch the entire episode with an amused smile that can’t seem to leave your face. You shake your head and at last move to sit on one of the barstools while Jinae orders.
“Should I pay for hers?” Mark whispers, leaning onto the ledge with an expression of apprehension etched onto his face. He chews on his lip. “Yeah, that’s sweet,” you grin, and with an encouraging squish of his cheeks, you push him forward.
You watch, utterly zoned in and praying to every god out there that he does not turn into an awkward pile of mush. The grin can’t seem to leave your face when he steps up beside her and—
“Oh my God, he’s become a man,” says a voice from beside you suddenly. You nearly jump out of your skin, jerking in your seat. “Holy fucking shit!” You wheeze, clapping a hand over your heart but, alas, this does not comfort the additional torment your essential organ faces once you look up to said tormentor.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you,” the boy-man-squish giggles—he giggles—with pinkpinkpink, heart-shaped lips pulling back to reveal quite possibly the cutest and most endearing smile you have ever seen.
And, just like that, you sit there, dumbfounded, positively enamored by this—this attacker, with every last working brain cell stuttering to a halt to admire him. “Oh,” you laugh—or was that another wheeze?—with a cough, then you clear your throat, squinting in some sort of weak attempt to make eye contact instead of gawking at his windblown, light golden brown hair that, conveniently, falls right into his eyes. However, as soon as you focus on the darkness of his irises, you realize you are totally, unquestionably screwed, lost in the depths of his nearly black eyes—obsidian is a better word—and even though there is nothing astoundingly exceptional or different about him, you simply cannot help feeling absolutely overwhelmed within a matter of seconds.
“That’s okay,” you finally force out. “I just didn’t see you come in.”
He smiles softer this time, and while your heart still jumps at the expression, you force yourself to look back to Mark and Jinae before a heart attack ensues. You come to find you missed whatever proceeded Mark’s initiative. However, judging by the threatening smiles and rosy cheeks, you assume it had to have gone well, and so your interest that's burning like a wildfire to peek at the boy that remains beside you proves to be preeminent.
Upon twisting back around, you take notice to the plastic twenty-two-ounce convenience store cup, full of what looks like chocolate milk, gripped lazily in his hand, an outrageous juxtaposition to his height and strong features. Condensation drips from the bottom and onto the tiled floor. You ask, hardly without thinking, “Are you Yugyeom?”
“That’s me,” Yugyeom hums, eyes scrunching into precious crescents as he smiles. “How’d you know?”
“They were talking about where you were earlier,” you say, waving your hand to the others. “Mentioned chocolate milk, so I assumed that was you.”
“Of course. That seems to be my only known trait,” snorts Yugyeom, sending his friends a condescending glare despite them being deep in their own conversations. You snort out a laugh, covering your mouth with your hand when his eyes fly back to soak in your reaction. You compose yourself, then say, “That’s not true. Jackson called you a goof.”
“Wow,” he sighs, frowning, and you watch with a grin etched onto your face as he slaps a hand over his chest. “What did Jinyoung say? Do I have to kill him?”
Snorting quieter this time, you shake your head. “I haven’t met him, so he didn’t say anything. Homicide is not necessary today, bud.”
Yugyeom beams—fuck, it is so unfair to be this good-looking—lifting his cup up to take a long sip. “Hold up,” he pauses, chewing on the straw, “are you ___?” Upon hearing your name fall from his lips, you sit up straighter in your seat as if being on a name-basis suddenly changes things. “Yeah. How’d you know?”
“Mark has a habit of talking about you and Jinae when he’s with us, seeing that you’re his only other friends,” Yugyeom says proudly, diverting his gaze to the aforementioned boy who is settled beside Jinae at the other seats. He takes another sip of his drink. “Well, it’s mostly about your friend, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget how many days he went on about there being a girl in the locker room.”
Your mouth falls open. “No way!”
“Totally serious. He was annoyed about not having the room for himself for a while, but he always whined about you being pretty, and then one day he started complaining about how sarcastic you are and how he can never win with you, so I guess his little crush ended. And then he met Jinae,” Yugyeom explains, grinning mischievously. “And we all know how it is now.”
“I’m—wow,” you whisper, flabbergasted, mostly from the clarification but also, deep down, hearing the unfairly tall boy use the adjective pretty while talking about you. “I’m glad they met, then. He’s too stinky and old for me.”
“Wait, aren’t—”
BamBam’s sudden calling of your name interrupts whatever the blonde was about to ask. You nearly stumble out of the barstool but relax upon realizing he has only placed your order on the counter, ready for you to grab. “I got it,” pipes Yugyeom from beside you and, heart hammering in your chest, you watch with starry eyes as he places his cup beside you before skipping over and taking your tea and a disposable paper bowl from the counter.
“Thanks,” you smile appreciatively as he places the order in front of you. You twist to sit correctly in your seat. Instead of staring at the wall, you watch curiously as the iced chocolate boy shimmies onto the chair next to you. You clear your throat. “You were saying?”
“Hm?—Oh! Yeah, aren’t you in the class above mine?”
You nod, tearing open the chopstick packet and diving right into the dangmyeon and honey soy chicken. “That’s what Mark told me.” You pause, stuffing food into your mouth. “Although, if I were to judge you by your height,” you chew, letting out a mesmerized sigh at the unacceptably delicious flavors,  “I would have thought you were older.”
Yugyeom, smiling charmingly once more, breaks into laughter. “Would you want to try that again without your mouth full?”
You gape, kicking his shin before silently realizing you’re not close enough with him to do that. Grumbling, you say, “What else am I supposed to do when you’re trying to talk to me when I’m eating?”
“Sorry, sorry, I’ll leave you be,” he chuckles to himself, taking a slow sip of his milk, and you look back to your meal, digging down to the rice and prodding tacky clumps into your mouth. Your neck suddenly begins to prickle at the notion that you’re being watched. With another mouthful, you slurp up a dangling noodle before building up the courage to look at the blonde only to find him already watching you intently, a lazy smile softening his features.
“You know,” you say as he raises a brow. You take a sip of your tea for effect, nearly choking on an unexpected tapioca ball. You continue, “A stranger watching you eat is rather uncomfortable, especially when it comes to noodles.”
“What else is there to do? Talk to Mark and his girlfriend?” Yugyeom retorts playfully, nodding to the pair, and you smack yourself when the idea of pushing away a stray strand of hair that falls into his left eye arises. Instead, you follow his gaze to Jinae and Mark cheerfully talking away.
“Point taken. Don’t you work here, or something?”
“I get out at one,” he confirms, chuckling when you oh-so-gracefully miss your mouth. Rice lands on your bare thigh. His gaze trails the grains and, upon realizing your lack of clothing, his cheeks flush cherry red, and you fight back a laugh. Deciding to save him from his internal, middle school boy panic, you continue, checking the time on your phone, “It’s one now. Yet when I got here, you weren’t working.”
“I had to get my iced choco.”
“But… don’t you need to work?”
“Eh,” he twists to look at the three behind the counter. “They don’t need me.”
“I don’t think that’s how jobs work, but okay,” you laugh, picking up the dumpling—Jesus, why is everything so good?—and, panicking over the fact that the conversation is ending, you opt to continue, devouring your meal in silence.
Barely two swallows later, a hand slaps against your shoulder and you drop yet another mound of rice as you lurch in surprise.
“Do you like swimming? In the ocean?”
Jackson, looking way more handsome than your average employee should—you’d love to meet the parents of everyone in this room—grins mischievously down at you, dropping his hand.
“Of course. My parents practically threw me into the sea the day I was born,” you joke, slapping yourself on the back when he rears his head to let out a roaring, high-pitched laugh. “Why?”
“On days when we get out at the same time, we always head down and stay until, like, seven. Do you guys want to come with us?”
“Oh.” Nearly choking on the lack of a response, you twist to look at Yugyeom, who watches with the same gentle smile that has not left his face. You cough, turning back around. “Definitely! That’ll be fun. Who is us, though?”
“Me, Jackson, Youngjae, and Bam,” Yugyeom interjects. Once more you turn and offer him a thankful smile before glancing back to Jackson, then past him to Mark and Jinae still chattering away over their meals like two doves sharing a bird bath. You sigh, half out of the dejection that comes with achieving the role of a third wheel but partially over the greedy realization that this means you may have these new friends to yourself. You clear your throat, glancing back between Yugyeom and Jackson before you say, “Are you the type of guys who like to yell ‘shark’ when we’re swimming?”
Jackson smirks. “Shit, are you not into that?”
Tumblr media
Within the span of the time it takes for the foursome to change behind a dumpster outside of the grill and join you on your walk down through the sand, you have come to learn four things.
One—these five boys together are louder than any colony of seagulls fighting over a half-bite of a sandwich (if you have ever been the victim of that scene).
Two—Youngjae and Mark are co-parents to a fur child.
“You’re a dad?” You initially hissed, nearly dropping all the belongings you carried. “Coco is a dog,” Mark sighed, clearly exasperated by your conclusion-jumping. You rolled your eyes. “You never told me you had a dog.”
Three—Mark’s friends have a very in-depth plan to give him and Jinae their final push.
“You have to stay as distant from them as possible. We’re going to be your new best friends,” Jackson whispered once you fell in step beside him. “How do you plan on getting them together?” You whispered back, laughter lacing your tone at the idea of scheming on their future relationship. Jackson paused, blinking. He looked to Yugyeom on your side, who casually shrugged.
“We’ll have to leave during random times so they’re left alone together,” BamBam piped up from beside Jackson, nodding to the aforementioned pair walking ahead.
And four—when you are not used to it, insecurity has the claws of a vulture and the weight of an anchor.
And yet, insecurity may be the wrong word. Whatever it is, it sparks a small fire in your tummy, and butterflies are gradually coming to life at your obvious delay, barely there until you proceed to remove your tee. At this, you are startlingly aware of the quick glances thrown your way, and this is when it grows. Or, were there even glances? Had you imagined it? Yeah, that’s what happened, you tell yourself, laying your blanket onto the lumpy sand with unexpected accuracy that only comes with years of doing so. No, they’re staring, definitely staring. An internal panic—an unknown panic—now a forest fire, heart thumping against a glass ribcage. No, nobody is even looking.
You cast an inspecting glance over your newfound group, all mindlessly busy with their own belongings, until—there it is!—there's a fleeting peek from choco boy. You gulp, catching the way the right side of his mouth quirks up. Once you catch his agonizingly long stare, you look away, focusing on flattening the edges of the blanket until you realize, fuck, your boobs, practically spilling out like the Niagara Falls broadcasted on television for all to see with this position. Scrambling to stand upright—fuck the blanket—you skip on the sunscreen orgy and hurry towards the white blanket of froth that forms as the tide gradually approaches the shore, sighing in relief as your toes come into contact with the nippiness of the waves.
So. That’s what it was. Who it was. Shivering against the waves, you trudge on, dodging a wailing child who stomps madly toward his mother. You sigh blissfully as the burning temperature of your skin—whether it be from your fizzing nerves or from the sun beating down relentlessly—drastically cools once you duck through a wave.
In the past you were able to brush off passing thoughts of those around you, those watching you and possibly judging you, by starting up a conversation with Jinae, and even when Mark began joining you, he was so enamored by her that you knew you had nothing to worry about.
However, this is the first time in years you are at the beach with a group predominantly male.
Pushing back your now saturated hair and kicking your legs to stay afloat, you spin to look for your crowd, squinting at the shore that fades into liquid gold, vivid in the brilliant light, and search through the masses of gaudily colored umbrellas and chairs until you catch sight of your blanket and what looks like Mark practicing a backflip in the sand. Mark, Jinae, Youngjae, BamBam… fuck. Recounting, with your fingers this time, and still coming up with a measly four, you shudder into a silent panic all over again, rifling through the clustered vacationers for two certain boys. However, once you do in fact locate the duo resurfacing after diving with aesthetic synchronization under a wave, it seems to only benefit in their search for you, seeing as the older of the two beams like a star and quickens his pace.
“Thought we lost you there for a second,” Jackson greets. At this, you conclude that you may never get over his smile, and you force yourself to turn to the horizon in order to gather your thoughts. “Well,” you grin, looking between him and Yugyeom, both tanned honey gold from daily exposure to the sun, “You found me.”
“What happened back there? You looked like you saw a ghost,” Yugyeom continues, staring up at him. You wonder whether or not the glint in his eyes is innocent but brush it off as simple, playful banter. “I don’t know,” you lie, shrugging. “I think I just got really hot.”
Jackson hums, oblivious to the unexpected tension that has you longing to swim off to another nation and never return. “Do you think it’ll work?”
Yugyeom shrugs, finally breaking eye contact in order to look to his hyung. “Yeah, I mean, at least in the beginning. Don’tcha think they’ll catch on eventually, though?”
In the midst of focusing on jumping up with the current of the waves, you process their words, realizing you really do not even know what they are talking about. “Does this have to do with Mark and Jinae?”
“Mhm,” Jackson starts. “While we’re here, Bam and Youngjae are conveniently going to take a nap.”
“Oh, smart. You guys are really serious about setting them up, aren’t you?”
“At this rate, they aren’t going to do it themselves,” Jackson chuckles, running a hand through his darkened locks, pushing wet strands back. Your gaze absently follows the action. Barely a heartbeat later, salt water is splashed at your face, stinging at your eyes, but you are quick to squeeze them closed. Upon opening them again, you come to find Jackson, eyes wide and honest, and Yugyeom, biting down on rosy lips to hide his laughter.
“Did you just—” splash.
He does it again!
“Oh, you ass!” You yelp, lunging forward and reaching out for the younger boy’s shoulders. No matter how new of a friend he is, this is war. You fight against the strong tug of the ocean at your body. Cackling like a hyena, Yugyeom dodges your weak attempt of a punch, smacking away your insistent hands and shit, you can’t touch the floor anymore. In a split-second decision, you dive beneath the surface and peel open your eyes as much as you can despite the salty sting prompting you to close them. You swim toward your assailant, wrapping your hands around his leg, just above the knee. When you dig your nails lightly into his skin, you nearly choke on a mouthful of water at just how muscular his thigh is. When he starts to squirm away from your grasp, all mouthwatering daydreams about the thighs your new friend possess disappear, and you regain your pose, releasing his leg for hardly a second, just long enough to dig your fingers instead into his side and resurface.
“Stop!” He whines, thrashing away from your tickling. He splashes more water your way as a result. Once he finally trips over his own feet and his head submerges under an approaching wave you finally relent, backstroking away from him to an amused Jackson. “What a thot,” you grumble, rubbing the sting away from your eyes and warily watching the child as he recovers from your attack. “I met you guys hardly an hour ago and suddenly we’re close enough to beat one another up.”
Jackson shrugs, flicking your shoulder, and you shoot him a warning glare.
“I told you we’re going to have to be your new best friends,” he says.
“You! I could’ve died!” Shouts a bewildered Yugyeom as he swims over, looking way too gorgeous for someone who just got knocked by a wave. Despite his playful exaggeration, you smack away the finger he waggles in your face with an eye roll. “You splashed water in my face! Twice!”
“You were staring!”
“Staring? Staring at what?” You snort, unable to even recall what was happening before he suddenly splashed you. “I—hm. Nothing,” he sighs, the apples of his cheeks blooming pink. He looks down and focuses on the ripples of the water. “Never mind.”
“Ooh. ‘Kay,” you laugh awkwardly, looking to Jackson, who mirrors your puzzled expression. Finally letting silence settle in comfortably, you look to the shore in search of Jinae’s obnoxious rainbow umbrella to find all four lying on their towels.
“Anyway, I’m going to see how things are going. Try not to kill each other,” Jackson smirks—how dare he—before moving with the current to shallower waters.
Now what?
Praying to every god out there that conversation will come as fluidly as it did back at JJ’s, you look to Yugyeom, only to witness him with his leg held to his chest as he pulls a shell from between his toes. You wrinkle your nose, laughing, “Did you just pick that up with your foot?”
“It bit me!” He whines, frowning.
“The shell bit you?”
“No,” he caves, grinning stunningly. “It’s a hermit crab.” As he speaks, he moves closer to you, rolling the small cerith shell onto his palm before holding it out to you. “Aw,” you pout, pushing your wet hair away from your face to lean closer as the crab hesitantly taps Yugyeom’s hand with its claws. “They’re so cute.”
He snorts. “Not when they bite you.”
“That’s called karma,” you smirk, cupping your hands for him to drop the crab into. “People who splash their new friends and practically blind them get bitten by crabbies.”
“You’re very dramatic,” Yugyeom says, watching you the same way you adoringly watch the hermit crab. Your attention, however, is not so fixated on the small crustacean in your hand as it is on the slow rise and fall of Yugyeom’s chest—right there in front of you. Tears of water race down the toned muscles of his stomach each time the water level climbs and retreats. You’re just in the middle of ogling when you take notice to the sharp, black edges of tattoos on his sides, more so to the intricate pattern you can only partially see on his right. No, you scold yourself. What are you doing? You just met him today. Shaking your head to rid your mouthwatering daydreaming, you say, “So are you, Mr. I-splashed-you-for-staring. By the way, let me see your tattoo.”
“You’re not going to have it pinch me, right?” He chuckles cautiously, casting a wary glance to said it, and you laugh, gently letting the waves take the hermit crab out of your hands with a shake of your head. “I said I wanted to see it, not pinch it.”
Rolling his eyes, Yugyeom finally lifts his toned arm up to offer a better view to the precise design of a flower, a rose, on his side. You ignore his quiet intake of breath when your fingers subconsciously trace at the detailed ink. “It’s so pretty. I’d kill to do something like this.”
Yugyeom shrugs. “You should, then.”
You scoff, finally stepping back. “I wish, but then I’d have to deal with my parents. They already threw a tantrum when I got my first.”
“Can I see?”
“Oh,” you chuckle, heat rising to your cheeks—God, how old are you?—at the realization that answering his question would take a bit more effort considering you’re shoulder-deep in the ocean, “I’ll have to show you when we get out.”
“Sure,” he hums with a pretty smile, looking around quietly as you drop beneath the surface to once again cool the heat scorching your body. Then, when you come up, he says, “Do you want to get out now?”
“Yeah. We should tell Jackson we smacked each other or something,” you grin, beginning to head back to shore with him trailing a few steps behind. Once you get to the point where the waves start to break, you cross your arms over your chest to keep the girls in place, angling your body to avoid being knocked to the ground for an inevitably sandy, humiliating death.
“Oh, yeah, we’ll think of something,” says Yugyeom.
The sarcasm lacing his tone has not even registered in your brain when his hands are on your waist, shoving you forward until you helplessly trip over the force of the current, flailing ungracefully into the sand with a cry that only gets smothered with the wave passing over your head. That son of a bitch.
When you surface and rub the stinging water from your eyes, you watch unamused as he reels back in laughter, louder than any of the children around you, and with him not paying attention you grab at his ankles, tripping him into his own sandy misery and ignoring all the judgmental stares from bothered teenagers sent your way. Although, you realize much too late that you should have taken him falling on you into consideration. This still does not prepare you for an elbow in the gut and his unfairly giant build squashing you further into the sand. To make it worse, as a wave recedes and another surges forward, all you can focus on is the gritty sand smearing your skin as you tussle in battle with Yugyeom.
“You are,” you spit, finally shoving him off once you’ve gained some safety from the waves, “a royal pain in the ass.”
Unable to contain his laughter, Yugyeom stays on the ground. You wrinkle your nose grossly at the sand not only coating your hair but also his lightened locks. At his lack of a reply, you scoop up a handful of wet sand and slap it onto his stomach. “Hey! That wasn’t cool,” he whines, reclining up on his elbows and glaring at the glop of sand spreading over his abdomen, torso heaving with laughter, “c’mon, that was pretty funny.”
Your irritated façade finally breaks once he flashes an unfairly adorable, boyish grin, and you finally join in with his laughing, scooping up more soppy sand and dribbling it on his toned arm. It does not hit you until he only frowns playfully instead of stopping you how unexpectantly intimate yet natural it is for someone you just met. “I like the tattoo,” Yugyeom suddenly states, poking at the lavender and coral shaded scallop shell right above the waist of your bottoms. You jolt in surprise, cheeks burning at his friendly gesture that only further supports your earlier thoughts.
“Thanks,” you smile. With the last bit of sand glopping onto his stomach, you cringe at your own state of filthiness. “c’mon, we should wash this off. And no more tackling.”
With another quiet laugh, Yugyeom stands to his feet, watching sickeningly as wet sand slides off his body and back into the shallow water with an unpleasant plop! Then, much to your surprise, he reaches his arm down to help you up. “I think your knee went up my ass,” he giggles once you’re up, walking ahead and using the waves to wash off. you grimace at the thought while walking out further to rinse out your hair. “Yeah, and you nearly pulled my top off,” you scoff, cupping water into your hands and scrubbing the sand off your skin. “You’re like a little kid.”
“And you complain too much,” he fires back once you start heading back. This time you keep a watchful eye on him in case he tries to pull another stunt. You gasp playfully, slapping a hand over your heart. “Ouch.”
“Don’t worry,” Yugyeom says. You look over to catch his playful expression. His lips are curled up into a sly smile and his dark eyes twinkle mischievously. “it’s hot.”
You blink, suddenly overwhelmed. Walking alongside the unfairly tall boy you look back to your feet, wary of holes dug and left exposed as a tripping hazard by reckless children. You scoff. “Since when is being a bitch hot?”
“Technically I paused in between those phrases, so I could’ve been talking about the temperature,” Yugyeom says, smirking like the little jerk he is as you lean down to pick up your towel. “What are the first three letters of assuming?”
Scowling, you contemplate kicking up a shower of dry sand if Jackson was not snoozing peacefully next to your own layout. Instead, you punch his arm and watch in satisfaction as he grimaces. “Ha, ha. Very funny. Please leave me alone now.”
“I need help putting on suntan lotion, though,” he pouts just as you plop down onto your blanket, towel wrapped snugly around your shoulders.
“Jesus Christ, how old are you?” You groan, falling back and glaring upside down at him, biting back your laughter when he lets out a loud sigh. “Please? Just my back.”
“Oh my God. Fine, you big baby. I’m not moving, though, so pop a squat.” Finally giving in, you lean up with a defeated sigh, scooting over to leave enough room for his tall ass. You watch disgruntledly as he drops beside you, crossing his legs with his back faced to you. Once he passes back the bottle, you give it a good shake before twisting the cap off. Spraying routinely over is skin, you mutter an apology when he breaks out in goosebumps. “Here,” you mumble, tossing the bottle into his lap before rubbing the greasy spray further over his back and shoulders. You cringe for a millisecond before quickly swiping over the lowest area at the waistband of his bottoms and slapping his shoulder. “Begone, thot.”
When he spirals to face you, you are momentarily whiplashed, and you almost—almost—tell him that he’s so pretty with the mole under his eye and indisputably gorgeous face. However, you quickly remind yourself, oh yeah, you have only known him for a few hours. Fortunately, he replies to your banter, concluding your drool-worthy trance.
“I’m not moving. Just because you called me that.”
You watch, dumbfounded, as he casually flops over and onto his stomach, burying his face between crossed arms without another word. “You—You’re despicable. You have a whole towel to yourself. Leave me be,” you protest, poking his ribs with your foot, still wrapped cozily in your towel.
At your insistent jabbing, he finally pulls an arm away and seizes your ankle, holding it still with an amused smile while he stares up at you. He looks way too hot for someone so incredibly, undeniably annoying. “Yugyeom,” you whine defeatedly, poking his thigh with your other foot. You watch the confidence only grow over his features. You say, “Stop being an ass.”
“Jesus Christ, I thought we were here to set up Mark and Jinae, not you two children,” BamBam suddenly grumbles from beside Jackson, leaning up on his elbows and scowling in your direction. “We’re the same age as you,” Yugyeom retorts, looking to him with a glare. You wait for him to deny BamBam’s accusation, heart thumping loudly in your chest, and yet he doesn’t. “Shut up or I’ll kill you,” BamBam grumbles, realizing it’s not worth the fight. He returns to his interrupted napping.
Laughing, you accept defeat as well and remove yourself from your towel’s shielding concealment, crumpling it into a ball as a pillow and placing it down a few inches from Yugyeom’s head. You lay on your stomach beside him. “Your friends threaten to kill you a lot.”
“It’s because I’m the baby,” he grumbles, resting his head on his wrists to look at you. You do the same.
He continues. “It’s whatever, though. They’re just jealous I’m taller than them.”
“No, you’re just annoying,” faintly, you hear BamBam mumble. Laughing, you cover your mouth with your hand. “I agree with him,” you whisper, the smirk growing harder to hide when Yugyeom frowns in playful hurt. “Shut up,” he grumbles, kicking your ankle with his own. “Don’t you need sun lotion?”
“I put some on before work.”
“But you went in the water,” he pouts, “and that was hours ago.”
“It’s fine,” you smile, heart warm at his concern. “It’s almost four, anyway. The sun isn’t as strong.”
“Oh,” Yugyeom seems to accept this, eyes traveling to your shoulder and lingering there long enough until you feel the heat spread from your head to your toes. Then he looks back to your face, expression soft. “You don’t actually mind if I nap here, right?”
Smiling against the dampness of your crumpled towel, you quietly say, “I don’t mind. As long as you don’t kick me, or something.”
“I can’t make that promise,” he smiles once more before finally resting his forehead on his forearms. You study what you can see of his relaxed silhouette for a moment before messily tying up your damp hair and comfortably burying your face into the towel with a peaceful sigh. What an odd individual.
What an odd joy.

Two hours and a series of blurred insignificant events later, you find yourself lying on your back. A hand jerks your shoulder and brings you back to blurred consciousness. “What?” You grumble, your mind hazy as a result of a long, hot nap that has your brain momentarily reeling at where you are. “It’s a little after six. I’m leaving. Are you good?”
Squeezing your eyes as a sort of fine tuning to get your mind back into business, you finally blink up to Jinae. Holding beach items in her arms, she tells you she's heading back up to your apartment. “Um,” you pause, straining to sit up and scan to see if the others are up. “I’m good. I’ll see you tonight.”
Once she’s off, a tired sigh escapes from your lips as you flip back onto your stomach. You easily drift off for another fifteen minutes or so before waking once more, this time to a screaming baby. Rubbing sandy knuckles over your eyes, you look to your side. Yugyeom, still fast asleep, remains spread out across your blanket, right hand positioned into a small hole in the sand an arm’s length away. You wonder if he dug it in his sleep.
“He sleeps like a dead man. Once we left without him and he came to me and Mark’s apartment at, like, two in the morning ready to kill us,” a voice grumbles ahead of you. Jackson is lying just as you are with a messy case of beachhead, strands dried and awkwardly sticking up in all directions. You laugh, momentarily looking away from the brunette to the dimming sun, which is much lower in the sky at this point. You finally respond, “I can tell. Every time I woke up, he was still knocked. Also, I didn’t know you were Mark’s roommate.”
Wrinkling his nose, Jackson glances over his shoulder to the other three boys still passed out on the sand. “Is that good or bad?”
“Oh, I don’t know. I just hear a lot about you. And now I have a face to match all the stories with.”
“Gosh, what does he say?”
You contemplate it for a moment. It's not like Mark has ever really talked shit. You decide on messing with him. “He says when you sleep, you talk about feet.”
Mouth hanging open, Jackson absorbs your bullshit before his face drains of color, spewing nonsense like a child caught in a lie. “What? Oh my God, you’re joking. You’re joking! Shit, you probably think I have a thing for feet or something. I swear I don’t, oh my—oh my God, bro. I definitely don’t talk about feet.” In an attempt to hold back your laughter resulting from his panic, you force your gaze elsewhere. You focus on Youngjae’s hair billowing from the light breeze until Jackson has exhausted himself breathless.
“I was joking,” you finally cave, but only when you glimpse the deep puppy frown he holds. “All he’s ever said it that you’re too loud in the morning.”
It takes Jackson a few seconds to process your trickery. He blinks. “Wow,” he heaves, sitting up onto his haunches. “I see how it is. You have betrayed me. I guess we’re enemies now.”
“Ha!” BamBam roars somewhere behind. “You really had him!”
“That was pretty good,” pipes Youngjae, sitting up and lifting his sunglasses to push back his hair. He pokes Mark beside him. “Yo, your side girl just flamed Jackson.”
“Side girl?” You snort just as Jackson flails to stand up, kicking sand in the process.
“No, she didn’t!” Jackson shouts defiantly, hands on his hips.
“What’d she say?” Mark grumbles tiredly, blinking to keep his eyes open. He reclines on his elbows.
While Youngjae fills him in, you look to Jackson, who shoots daggers your way but fails to hide his own humored grin. You stifle a laugh as Yugyeom stirs beside you. He mumbles, “What’s all the commotion for?”
“She,” Jackson says, looking at Yugyeom and pointing a finger at you, “is a bitch.” He smirks, flicking your forehead on his way back to his towel. You stick out your tongue. In response he adds, “But a smart bitch.”
“I thought we already established that.” Yugyeom sighs. You shoot him a glare, and he returns the gesture with a sleepy smile that extinguishes your urge to smack him.
“Hey,” you wrinkle your nose. “Since when is it ‘national attack ___ day?’ For a group of guys, you sure are babies.”
Jackson gasps. “Shit, she’s Jinyoung in female form.” He shakes BamBam by the shoulders. “We can’t let them meet. They’ll be too powerful.”
“You’re so whiny,” Yugyeom says sharply. All eyes fly to him. He shrugs. “They’ll be too powerful.”
“Oh shit,” BamBam snorts, moments before Jackson shoots up and charges for the younger boy. Yugyeom flounders away in time to run away. You dodge the sheet of sand sent your way with a prepared duck and watch the two sprint up the beach. “Tragic,” Mark comments as Yugyeom stumbles face-first into the sand and Jackson hops on top of him to choke him in a headlock.
“Well, that’s my queue to go,” you quip, patting around for your crumpled tee shirt, finding it, and pulling it over your head. “This was fun. We should do it again sometime.” Shaking the sand out from your blanket, you become startlingly aware of the sudden silence hanging over the four like fog. You realize before Mark even speaks up that, chances are, this will be a regular thing.
He hesitantly says, “Well, I was thinking… maybe we could—”
“Yes. I know what you’re gonna say. I don’t think Jinae would mind hanging out, either. Anyway, I feel like I’ve known everyone for years, and the teasing is kind of fun,” you say, cutting him off. You return the smile he tries to hide before swinging your bag over your shoulder and waving to the others. “See you tomorrow, then.”
“Wait!” Youngjae yelps. You watch with wide eyes as he jumps up and gives you a warm hug, encasing his arms around you only for a moment but still long enough for your heart to warm. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” you smile, patting his cheek and waving once more to BamBam and Mark. You start up looser sands when Jackson finally separates from Yugyeom after shoving him once more into the sand for good measure. “Careful you don’t kill him!” You shout over, watching with a laugh as the older boy whips his head up like a dog summoned by the shaking of the treat bag.
“Are you leaving?” He shouts, bouncing away from Yugyeom and jogging to you. Abs. “Yeah,” you say once he has reached you. “A shower is calling my name.”
“Are we hanging tomorrow?”
Looking to the three still lying out a few yards away, you shrug. “I’ll be here. Who knows with Jinae, though. Sometimes she gets bored of beachin’ every day.”
“Oh, well, whatever you guys decide to do, we’ll be here,” Jackson grins sinfully, slapping your arm before walking away. Of course you couldn’t have gotten a hug from him. “Keep your eyes out for the baby!” He suddenly calls, and you twist around to dumbly watch the tanned boy return to his friends. Your heart is suddenly beating loudly in your ears, and your internal fire only intensifies when said baby whines, pulling you into his chest, “Why are you leaving?”
Sucking in a necessary breath, you practically fall limp against Yugyeom’s hold, pressing your cheek against his chest but turning away from his friends in fear that they’re looking. “I want to shower. And eat. Plus, I have some dramas to catch up on.” At this he leans back, gazing down at you peculiarly. You’re painfully aware that his arms are still looped around your waist. He’s just a touchy guy, you tell yourself as he continues to groan like a child denied what he wants. “We could get food together.”
“Don't fret; I'll be back tomorrow,” you offer, satisfied when his lips quirk up and the corners of his eyes crinkle. “And probably all the days after that. Also, when school starts, I bet we’ll all be hanging together. We have plenty of days to get food.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” He smiles, his expression soft. Then he pulls you in for another hug. “Text me when you get home.”
Flustered, heart beating frantically, you choke out, “I don’t have your number?” Grunting in realization, Yugyeom reaches for your phone in your hand. You watch with a held breath as he tries each of your fingers for the correct fingerprint scan until it unlocks. He goes into the Messages app and puts in a new number. “You do now,” he smiles, irises reflecting gold specks. He hands your phone back, and it’s not until you cross both arms over your chest that you notice the goosebumps painting your skin. “Thanks,” you force, spinning on your heels and making way for the sandy walkway up the dunes.
“Come back to the grill tomorrow with Mark and Jinae!”
“I will!” You shout back, not daring to look back for fear that the tall boy will make your heart hurt more, in a way that it most certainly should not. You sigh and concentrate on the sand dried on your feet rather than how you hope he will decide to crash on your beach blanket again tomorrow.

“Pussy,” Jinae taunts as you crash onto her mattress. You struggle to stretch your leg out far enough to give her bare ass a feeble kick as she changes out of her uniform. Scoffing, you tumble to lie on your stomach, twirling a strand of recently washed hair in between your fingers. “Like you’re any better. I just met him today while you and Mark have been galloping around each other like eighth graders since summer started.”
“Touché,” Jinae says, accepting defeat. She tightens the strings of her sweatpants before thumping down on the bed to be beside you. The bed dips as she rolls to curl her form around your own. “I bet you’ll both be in love with one another by Saturday.”
You laugh and wrap your arm around her shoulders, running your fingers through her dark corkscrew curls, the only thing she fully acquired from her mother’s genes. “You and Mark already are in love. You just refuse to act on it.”
“Yeah, whatever, I don’t wanna talk about him.”
Sighing, you tug harshly on a curl. “It’s gonna happen this week. You and Mark will be official.”
“Mhm,” she hums, smirking. “And so will you and Yugyeom, Miss We-Practically-Fucked-In-The-Ocean.”
“Stop,” you whine. You retract your arm and drape it over your face, shielding the burn that is creeping its way up. “Seriously, though,” Jinae giggles, tugging at your elbow. “I can’t believe you met each other today. The attraction was unbelievable. Chemistry classes across the world are quaking.”
“Shut up.” Groaning, you roll away from her relentless probing. “Listen, he’s cute. Really cute and yeah, sure, we got along great. But who said that I’m ready to date again? And you don’t even know if he would be interested.”
“You could always ask Mark,” Jinae says as you struggle off her bed, leaving her sprawled out alone. “Double dates!”
“Yeah, sure, Jinae. Keep dreaming.”
She pouts. “You’re no fun,” she huffs, reaching for her phone. “Get out, it’s almost two-thirty, and we have to get up soon.”
“Can’t we skip the jogging for one day? Sleep in? No one wants to see the literal ass crack of dawn,” you yawn. Folding your hands in prayer, you beg her to give you a break for one day. Jinae ponders it for a moment, rubbing her bottom lip with her index finger, before an open-mouthed grin evilly lights up her features. “Sure.”
Squinting, you waggle an accusing finger at her while slowly backing out of her room. “I don’t trust you. Try anything, Kim Jinae, and your ass is out on the street!”
“You can’t kick me out!”
“Yes, I can!” You shout, finally allowing your grin to show once you have closed her door.
Maybe some days are just a tad more joyous than others.
