I've read your posts about disliking Ultra SM but what are your thoughts on the Aether Foundation and Rainbow Rocket?

Hello anon, you asked a very normal question two months ago, and now I’m going to give a very deranged, not normal, ‘I have been dealing with the horrors of USUM for what feels like my entire life’ answer. / lighthearted.

LET ME START THIS OUT WITH: I love all of the characters involved, I am loudly and obnoxiously a fan of both sides in Pokémon, however:

The amount of criticism I have for the whole RR arc plays directly into the problems I have with the way that Lusamine’s character was assassinated in USUM. Beginning with the way that Lusamine was completely defanged and dethroned from being one of the most compelling antagonists in all of Pokémon, only to become the most mild, unappealing, borderline irritating presence in the entirety of Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. It completely ruined all of the character growth that Lillie and Gladion experienced in the initial two games, and it also made the dynamic between Lusamine and Guzma a lot less compelling.

The fact that they trashed the entire Nihilego arc and ruined the entire Aether family story for the sake of shoehorning Necrozma into the plot, is something I will never, ever be over, and I believe that the decline in Pokémon antagonists began with Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Anyways. They somehow make it worse with the entirety of the Rainbow Rocket plot. They further make Lusamine less remarkable and turn her into a damsel in distress, all for the sake of the nostalgia gauntlet that was the whole RR post-game. Honestly, in my opinion, there was no reason for that to happen at the Aether Foundation. You mean to tell me, that a group of megalomaniac men who all were WINNERS in their respective timelines, all decided that they didn’t have good enough resources for— whatever the fuck they wanted to continue doing, and had to go and storm Aether? And they managed to that simply by— having Faba hand over the keys.

It makes me want to throw my head through an entire wall and eat my own shoe.

I truly refuse to believe that the entirety of Aether would just surrender in a situation like that. It just made all of those characters look ridiculous. I’m so bitter and annoyed by it.

I’m also especially annoyed, because it isn’t as if Sun & Moon Lusamine and Aether as a whole were just standard, run-of-the-mill antagonists, this was a MAJOR organization that rivaled the other science-heavy syndicates in the games. They make it way too abundantly clear that Lusamine is almost like the opposite side of the coin to Giovanni. Aether made contact with Ultra Space. Aether captured Ultra Beasts AND designed the Beast Ball specifically to hold those beasts. Aether had the technology and brilliance to conduct the Type: Full & Beast Killer projects in order to create Type: Null and Silvally. The RKS System is an attempt to replicate ARCEUS. Aether didn’t even need to get Silph Co to work with them in order to accomplish this— Lusamine and Aether funded this on their own. And while the Beast Ball and Silvally aren’t exactly as impressive as the Master Ball and Mewtwo on paper, those are still major accomplishments that the majority of the world cannot claim.

They could had done something far more compelling and given respect to Lusamine’s character if they treated her and Aether as a symbolic competitor to Rocket. It would had spoken volumes to both organizations if there was an actual fight put up in order for Rainbow Rocket’s siege to be successful, because I know damn well my lady here wouldn’t just let a bunch of men roll up to the Aether Paradise and take it. She has UB’s for fuck’s sake.

I also still refuse to believe that somebody like Lysandre would willingly work alongside Giovanni, but, that’s a different rant for a different day. Love all these characters, but that whole entire plot was executed poorly.

And don’t even get me started on how it got even W O R S E in PokeMas. “Oh wow who could had leaked this sensitive information wow nobody in the foundation could had done that—“ Lusamine said as Faba was literally standing right there, the same Faba who had already done the same bullshit.

I hate it here. Lusamine is my OC now.

1. so i’m sensing that Edin is going to be Adie’s future love interest/friend/enemy/?… I MEANN they’re both toddlers currently and they’re both supernatural

2. I know you mentioned before that you wanted to do like a magic school type of story for Adie which I think is so fucking cool!! Maybe they’ll meet when they enroll whether that’s as children or teens.

3. And for miss Ellie she’s currently a human right? Will she become a werewolf like her siblings when she becomes old enough? And if she does will she be going to that school as well or is it just for spellcasters? And is that the same for Rhys who’s currently a child or is he going to just stay in normal school? I assume Amir is too old to go and he already has a story of his own.

4. This one may be a stretch but I love reading the Sims 4 lore. There’s a character with a similar name to Adelina— Avelina who was Greg’s late wife. We’ve seen Greg fight Amir in that one episode and we know that Greg is miserable because he’s all alone now (lore wise). If they are related we know that Greg and Avelina used to be mooncasters (idk if it’s the same as spellcasters) before they became werewolves. Is there any link here or am I tripping? I mean I know you read the lore too because Lux DeMarco appears in Amir’s story (😉)

5. off topic but I love Amir. Like that’s my son with his little boyfriends. 💙💙 You got 2 men obsessed with you I know he’s living life.

6. L. Faba is obviously up to no good.. I mean she is the sage of mischief magic. This ties into my first statement about the magic school story. We know there’s going to be more to the plot then Adie just going to school. She’s gotta fight someone and save the day right??!!!! So I wondering if Miss Faba is trying to cause something to happen— I assume to Tomax because she was deadset on trying to make the man practice Dark Magic.

What if something happens to him that makes him evil?? Or even do something to Simeon or Grace?? We know in the lore Grace and Tomax are roommates (and they were roommates..🤭) and in your story they’re very close.

I did want to do a magic school type beat but that was a bit before I expanded the lore. Right now (In the next update, I'll touch on it a bit) Nora does NOT want Adie in the Magic realm or any of the sages to know about them. at all. She wants nothing to do with them, the past, her involvement in the war, all of it and honestly, her little magical trigger finger is itching to finish what she started tbh , more on that later.

1000% Ellie will be a werewolf. At this point it's kinda like a family business/rite of passage. Amir is grown grown now 🥹 but Sonny and his bunch will continue to hold down their ranch and keep vampires in check. But they actually play a pretty big part in what's to come and when my Briar legacy and Fallen Angel series meet, we will see ALOT of them.

No link. The only link werewolves has is that they are descendants of Mooncasters and once upon a time they lived in the Magic Realm with all the occult before the Spellcasters got all high and mighty. Now werewolves just do their own thing and fight vampires. But I really don't see them having much involvement with Spellcaster drama other than possibly whooping vamp ass when needed.

I saw that they were roommates which made me go hmmmmm 🤔 interesting 🧐 and exactly why we'll see them roll around in the hay from time to time. But from my most recent update, I expand on Grace's ability to heal a little and really she's all about making people feel better via touch...so maybe there’s romance involved maybe she’s trying to help out an old friend because therapy doesn’t exist in the Magic Realm ig lmao 😵‍💫

Discuss. Pokeani traveling companion nightmare blunt rotation options. Long post under cut, I put way too much thought into this.

Faba. Look, I never watched all of SM so I can't speak for his anime counterpart, but going off of gameverse Faba, there is zero way that adding him to ANYTHING will improve it. I feel like I don't need to explain this one.

Nicholai. He's a furry (not a negative) who dresses as pokemon while trying to catch them (that's the negative). He also refuses to call shorts anything but knickerbockers. Traveling with him means you'll be hearing about knickerbockers and scaring off pokemon with giant zigzagoon costumes before you can even catch pokemon.

Baron Alberto. You get to decide if he's a lickilicky or not. I feel like I don't need to explain this one much, either. Just watch the darkrai movie.

Brandon. Okay, look. On one hand, you can travel with him and just fly places in the Battle Pyramid (which flies, by the way). On the other hand, he might yell at you ("NOOOOOOO") and you might have to make occasional pit stops to haunted ruins where kids get posessed by the king of pokelantis. You also might get crushed by a Regirock in his presence. But hey, you'll have an uber.

Butler. Diane will not be there to travel with you guys, which I think turns Butler from a powerful companion to a cringefail magician without his wife to keep him in check. Diane needs a raise. You might get absorbed by Meta Groudon if you choose to travel with him. However, if you have beef with Team Magma, he'll be ready to prove himself to them. This could be either a pro or a con depending on how he goes about this. Historically it has been a... decently large con.

Brianna. Look. I could make her worse. I could fix her. I could make her an actual character, but it's honestly funnier to just keep her the exact same. She's probably a largely normal, nice girl outside of her Brianna-ness, but if you choose to travel with her then Drew will be there too so you have to watch her Brianna all over the place. Also, this means traveling with Drew, which could go very many different ways. He himself barely escaped this list, if only due to personal bias. This one's a real coin flip. On one hand, she (probably) won't get you killed like Butler or Brandon might. On the other hand, Brianna. (/affectionate. I love Brianna. Something's wrong with her <3.) Safer bet but also has potential to be an incredibly annoying, cringeworthy bet that gets you stuck watching and subsequently dealing with tween relationship drama.

Charon. Another self-explanatory one I think.

Seymour (clefairy guy). Look, this guy's just annoying to me. I don't have any concrete reasons to have him here, other than the fact that he annoys me personally.

Anime Bill. He just creeps me out. That's all.

Kenny. So, look. I won't be too harsh on Kenny here, most of my Kenny hate is a joke (I don't actually hate him but hating on him is something of a meme with my friends), but I'm also not sure he'd be my first choice of a travelling companion. He's kind of whiny and likes to get a rise out of people. He's a petty and largely joking addition but also, he could be pretty annoying. I could fix him though.

Morrison. Loud. Likes sandwiches. Largely forgotten by the fandom because nobody watches Hoenn/AG for anything but the coordinators or battle frontier brains. He's mostly on this list for being loud.

Tommy. Yeah.

Hunter J. Also... yeah. Have fun getting arrested for associating with a criminal. I'm sure some of y'all would risk it all for her, though 👏

Harley. Even if you're on his good side, whatever that side may be, you're still going to have to be around his Harley-ness, and there's no guarantee that you won't be called upon to help him ruin the life of a ten year old. He gets a gif instead of a plain image. 80/20 chance you end up in his burn book (a canonical thing that he owns).

Roderick. Again, nothing WRONG with him per se, but he's an old guy who lived on an island with wynaut for 40something years, and his only confirmed pokemon is a bellsprout iirc. Roderick also just kind of watched a couple ten year olds presumably die and he seemed disproportionately chill about it, so there's no guarantee he'll be much help in an emergency. If not for May, Drew would have drowned because Roderick was not much help. Go watch Who What When Where Wynaut. Also, he's Paul's grandfather. Not canonically, but... trust me. He does have a boat, though. So that's cool.

Sid. Actually, there's nothing wrong with Sid other than not respecting personal space much and not being able to tell when someone's not interested. Go watch Destiny Deoxys, by the way. Fun movie THAT I COULD FIX DEAR GOD LET ME FIX IT. If you don't know my issues here then send me an anon and I swear to god I'll get into it, I always have this rant locked and loaded. EDIT: Sid is also now on this list because his google images was a weird adventure I don't wish to go on again. I got this image and no others. RIP anyone who tries to look up images for any pokemon anime character ever.

Zero. Weird emo with professor/father figure issues (???) or just issues in general, honestly. Really wants Giratina's power. Invented Siri. Wears a onesie. Failed star wars villain.

Dr. Yung. Did anyone even watch the mirage island special? I did. I still don't know what happened in it. Those 30 minutes of my life are a nonexistent blur. Something about Mew and Mewtwo, idfk. Traveling with him will get you into some shit, but it'll be incredibly forgettable shit that the fandom largely is unaware of. He's also evil, by the way, but kind of looks like a sad wet cat when he's not in evil mode.

Kevin. He's just kind of boring. His sister's way cooler. He's just Kevin. When I looked him up for images, the fourth image was a really buff, bipedal bidoof, which tells you about Kevin, I think.

normally i dont care that much about sims 4 townies showing up outside of their region but like is it just me or is L+D particularly bad about it

like i cannot go *anywhere* in ravenwood without judith ward or brittany cho being there and also like ik that ravenwood doesnt have many townies compared to every other pack + bg combined but like. aside from the characters specifically scripted to the world events there is maybe one l+d sim present at any given time and like 8 other townies (and usually theyre mostly the same? like id get it if it just pulled a random handful of sims but its like always Janae Price, Dominic Fyres, Travis Scott, L. Faba and Father winter for me idk)

plus all the randomgen ghosts the game generates for the one neighborhood (and we know the randomgen's are always a mess)...

Haros Kingdom - Bounty Hunters headquarters. 

Once his sister was back at the palace, Luciel used his Teleport Stone to go to the Underworld. He walked around the town before heading to the HQ, where Morgyn, Faba and Dominic were waiting for him. After finishing one bounty it was normal for him to go back, make the report, give them the proof of the elimination of the target, get the reward and then just go back to his home, but this time he need to stay longer than that. 

Luciel walked inside the building, replying to some cheerful greetings from some members. Everyone in there knew he was the son of Kamelot and Sanna, the best bounty hunters in all the story of the Haros world. Even the new members could recognize him immediately and they were always asking him for advice or asking about his parents which was the worst type of question from him to answer since he had no memories abut them, he knows his mother just by photographs and have seen his dad just twice for what he can remember. Popularity was annoying for Luciel, even if he had amazing abilities like his parents and his score was just going higher everyday he didn’t like all the attention.

After getting away of the cheerful crow, he entered the council chamber. To his left, closer to the bookshelf in the wall, was Dominic who smiled at him before putting his attention back to the books. In front of him, Faba was sat in her chair, playing with some strands of her hair before stopping after seeing him.

— Look who is back! With splendid news, I hope — the pink-haired woman smiled at him — Your presence here, it’s always a reason for the members to become more noisy than usual.

— I try to come when there’s a few of them but looks like you have gathered a lot more members lately.

— This place is always like this, Von Canyon, members come and go every day. Being the place where they train, take missions and get rewards — she explained while extending her arms to the sky — this place will never be empty.

— I guess so…

— Are you already done with your bounties, Von Canyon?

Morgyn, who has been silent and was standing behind Faba, interrupted their conversation.

— Yes, I’m here to turn the evidence of the bounties and get our rewards.

— Ours? — Morgyn asked him without turning in his direction.

—May sister may not be a Bounty hunter, but she is an excellent fighter. I know you don’t agree that she comes with me because she is not a Haros like us, but she does a better job than some of your older members. You are just too proud to admit.

— I don’t denied your sister have exceptional combat abilities, she is the daughter of the war and a hellhound, it would be a waste if she wasn’t.

Morgyn’s words always put Luciel’s patience to test. The two of them never got along really well. Before Morgyn, Luciel’s blood-father, Kamelot, was the former leader of the Council, a position that Luciel could easily take if he wanted to, due to his bloodline and his exceptional abilities that could easily make the other members choose. However, Luciel reject that position in exchange that they allowed him to work with his sister despite she not being a Haros, breaking one of the Haros prime rules of not getting related to outsiders. Another reason is because of Luciel’s rebellious character. Since he grew up outside Haros rules and traditions, most of the time he challenges Morgyn’s orders, sometimes even rejecting those and doing the things on his way which makes Morgyn furious.

— Your bounties will be processed, and your rewards send to you, Von Canyon — Faba gave him another smile — You can leave now.

— Before I leave — Luciel looked at Morgyn — Have you heard anything about Regis?

Morgyn stayed silent, looking at the horizon and other floating island that conformed the Underworld.

— We got a message from him a couple weeks ago. It wasn’t very clear and all we could understand was that he found his target. I was a poorly write letter, like he was doing it in a hurry. We haven’t heard from him after that.

— You are not the only one worry about him, Von Canyon.

— Why would you send him to an S-Ranked mission alone? That’s too dangerous..

— It was his decision — Dominic’s voice made Luciel to turn in his direction — we assign him two partners and he just dismissed them. Regis told us he wanted to go alone because he didn’t want to risk anyone else. — He looked back at Luciel — S-Ranked bounties are classified like that because they are, literally, Suicidal mission. You get the gold or you give your life, those are the only options.

Luciel looked down, not know what more to say. He was looking for a better response than that; he wanted to know that Regis was fine and will come back soon but that wasn’t case. He just got more worry about him.

Colress x Faba I mean, I don’t super like Faba? But I don’t ultimately hate this ship or anything. I dilike Faba mostly in the context of his arrogance at his job, but I’m not sure if he would act the same in private, so I can see a character development for him that he is actually normal or sweet with a partner. I suppose I’ll give it a D, I’m pretty neutral. It’s not something I like particularly, but definitely won’t make me uncomfortable, and I see the reasons people would ship them.

N x Silver In the context you described, I might give it a C. It’s not bad (when considering a small age gap), and again I can see the similarities between them. I’m just not sure if they’d be good for each other in terms of growing as people and overcoming their tough childhood issues… At least the way I see these characters (even considering a more mature Silver, like in the end of the game in canon). I think N in my hc has become really mature and can deal well with his traumas, so considering the personality I gave him, he might actually help Silver grow and heal. However, N can be interpreted very differently from what we have in game, so a more immature and unresolved version of him might end up being negative for Silver. It all depends, but if done right, this can become a really good ship. It’s not bad, maybe I’d give it a C+, even though that grade is not in the chart! Hahahaha! Now, about ages, IN MY HEADCANON, this wouldn’t work well. Silver is 15 in my comics and N is 20 (just turned 20 in fact). And well, that’s too much in my opinion. And yeah, I ship N and Hilda, who is currently 17 in my headcanon, (even though I want them to get together only when she’s 18) so like, it’s only two years of difference, that’s very little right? - kinda… but not quite. I think that few years can make a huge difference for younger people, some people are still practically children at 13 and then suddenly mature at 14, same as 15 - 16. Teenagehood is complex and one year can contain a lot of growth (emotionally, psychologically and physically). And, well, in my hc, Silver is VERY immature. Like, a LOT! In my “serious” headcanon, I consider he is more or less as mature as Lyra, who is 13. But in my comics I exaggerate, and he has the mind of an 8 year old. N, on the other hand, I headcanon him as a not extremely immatture person, who acts his age and all. So yeah, in terms of mind-set it would be like shipping a child with an adult, they have completely different levels of maturity and are totally going through different phases of their lifes right now. So basically, IN MY HC, nope, wouldn’t work. Would not ship! XD

Cyrus x Getting Therapy HAAHUAHEAUAHEAUA I ALMOST CHOKED. A+++++, OTP!!! AMAZING!!! XD I call this one Mentalhealthshipping! XD In fact I DO headcanon that Cyrus is currently going to therapy regularly, and he is starting the process of healing, still taking pills for his depression and trying to overcome his trauma (both his childhood scars and his PTSD). So yeah, I’m completely pro therapy for Cyrus, I want him to feel good and start understanding his impressions of the world are biased by mental health issues and that his logic is compromised by that. I want him to heal and become a better person. And well, I was actually writing a fanfic about this, in which Lucas tries to convince Cyrus to get therapy… But I stopped writing it. I hope some day I can continue it.

Matt x Tabitha I give it an A! :D It’s cute! I like it! ^^ It’s not possible in my headcanon, because I hc Tabitha as straight. (Matt is pansexual though), also I kinda headcanon that Tabitha started dating a Team Aqua grunt after the games ended, this is why I drew him with a magma grunt in the picture of Archie and Maxie’s wedding (I called her Aqua Grunt Lynda - here’s the post)… So yeah, I don’t ship them, but I like the ship. I also like the body difference because Tabitha is fat (in ORAS) and Matt is super ripped, and I like that these two would get together and love each other and matt wouldn’t care about his chubby boyfriend. ^^ Wholesome! I like it!

Courtney x Shelly Also don’t ship it, but I give it an A as well! In my hc, Courtney is ace… I haven’t decided if she’s aro or not though. But anyway I hc Shelly as straight (which goes against the majority of hc it seems), so it wouldn’t be possible anyway… (also my Shelly is trans, not that this is relevant in this context, but just so that you know). I see them as great friends in my hc, but don’t ship them. However I love content with the two of them, like cute drawings and stuff and I think this ship is really good anyway! I think they would match! ^^ 

Diantha x Malva I wante to say I’m neutral about it but for some reason I can’t sympathize with this ship… So being honest I guess it’s an E. I’m not sure why? I mean, I LOVE Diantha, and I really wish they had developped her more in game. I LOVE HER OH MY ARCEUS, I CAN’T— sorry. Really. I definitely have a crush on her. XD But I kinda “antipathize” (does this word exist?) with Malva, so I guess that’s the reason I don’t really like the ship. Not sure if I ever mentioned that here, but I hc Diantha as a lesbian. Still, I have no headcanons for Malva, I’ve never really cared that much about her or the other Kalosian Elites (I suppose Drasna is my favorite from them! She’s super cute!), so yeah, I don’t even know if I’d make her straight or lesbian, or bi, or aro or whatever… So yeah, I don’t really like this ship sorry. :/

Best Wishes vs. Sun & Moon: comparing the similarities and analyzing the differences

In terms of the three Pokeani shows that have run throughout the last decade, Pokemon: Best Wishes (2010-2013) and Pokemon: Sun & Moon (2016-2019) are a lot more compatible with one another than Pokemon: XY (2013-2016), and the reasons why are worth analyzing. 

SIMILARITIES BETWEEN BEST WISHES AND SUN & MOON:

Ash has a sillier, more immature portrayal and screws up a lot more - In an effort to return Ash to his roots and justify keeping him eternally 10 years old, the writers made Ash act more like a real 10 year old would. After all, his skills as a trainer shouldn’t have to make such a drastic impact on his personality, and their core audience in Japan reportedly found the “mature” Ash of XY terribly boring, which factored into that show’s ratings decline.

Ash travels to the region with his mother on a trip and stays there unexpectedly - In both BW and SuMo, Ash doesn’t set out to the show’s region by choice. He instead accompanies his mother there when she’s going on a trip (in the case of BW, alongside Professor Oak as well) and then stays after finding out about something: for Unova, it’s that it has a League Challenge, and for Alola, it’s that there’s a Trainer School that he thinks is cool.

A Legendary Pokemon takes an interest in Ash and Pikachu at the start - In BW, it’s Zekrom, who lends Pikachu its power, in SuMo, it’s Tapu Koko, who gives Ash a Z-Crystal.

Ash gets a regional starter who remains unevolved and mostly used for comic relief - In BW, it’s the spotlight-hungry Oshawott, in SuMo, it’s the lazy, backpack-dwelling Rowlet.

A recurring Pokemon ultimately becomes part of Ash's team - In BW, it’s a Sandile turned Krokorok who wants to defeat Pikachu, in SuMo, it’s a homeless, distrustful Litten.

Ash gains a main rival with blonde hair and a bad attitude - In BW, it’s Trip, who looks down on Ash for being a foreigner, in SuMo, it’s Gladion, who is an ill-tempered loner.

Ash gains a goofier rival more akin to him shortly before the League - In BW, it’s Cameron, who goes on to defeat Ash at the League, in SuMo, it’s Hau, who Ash defeats.

Ash's companions are all regarded as his equals - In the OS, Ash and Misty were equals but Brock was clearly in a higher position and was their caretaker. In AG, Ash and Brock were now equals but May and Max were beneath them, with May gradually becoming their equal overtime. In DP, Dawn started out beneath Ash and gradually became his equal, but Brock somehow sank to a lowly, almost useless position in the group. And in XY, everyone was beneath Ash from start to finish. BW and SuMo are the only times where Ash and his companions are all equal in their group dynamic, with each bringing something to the table.

Lana and Mallow bear some similarities to Iris - Iris is the heroine of BW, while Mallow and Lana are two of SuMo’s heroines. Like Iris, Mallow has dark skin instead of pale skin, a cheerful disposition, and a detailed emotional backstory. Lana meanwhile, shares Iris’ wild athleticism and prodigious affinity with nature, plus a frequently snarky and teasing attitude. 

Kiawe bears some similarities to Cilan - Cilan of BW and Kiawe of SuMo both appear at first glance to be fairly serious and professional in their attitudes, but pretty quickly show that they are far more flamboyant and comedically gifted characters than you would expect.

The TRio is sent to the region by Giovanni himself under a certain directive - In BW, it’s to lead the charge in a large-scale operation to take over Unova, in SuMo, it’s to conduct research on Alola’s Pokemon and capture the strongest ones (and later to master Z-Moves).

The TRio are the stars of their own subplot with their own new status quo - Rather than just following Ash and his friends around all the time like in the OS, AG, DP and XY, the TRio in BW and SuMo usually have their own matters to attend to. In BW, it’s engaging in missions for the Team Rocket organization, in SuMo it’s any number of odd jobs and side exploits. Through most of BW, they stay in Dr. Zager’s mobile research lab, through most of SuMo they stay in Bewear’s cave on Melemele Island which they construct a secret base above.

The TRio don't appear in every single episode - Although XY also kept this trend up.

The TRio are more competent and successful than is normal for them - The TRio succeed at their endeavors just about as often as they fail, and even their failures don’t tend to come so easily as their strategic thinking, technology, and Pokemon power has improved.

The TRio don't do much "blasting off" anymore - In BW, they usually make escapes (often on jetpacks) when defeated, in SuMo, Bewear almost always arrives to rescue them.

The TRio have another mission commander in place of Giovanni when he's busy - In BW, it’s Dr. Zager whom the TRio gets along with, in SuMo, it’s Matori whom they do not.

Giovanni takes up the Big Bad position once again - BW and SuMo are the only other times after the OS where Giovanni is the primary overarching villain who has conceived and is now conducting a master plan to take over the world by harnessing some great power. This transpires during the first and second years of BW, and just during the second year of SuMo.

It's a three-year show with mostly excellent pacing - For the most part, things don’t drag in BW and SuMo, with each stage of the show as determined by the current plot directive lasting precisely as long or short as it needs to. The only exceptions are the entirety of BW’s third and final year, and the middle of SuMo’s (between Poni Island and the Alola League). 

The region is faithfully adapted from the games - Although XY also kept this trend up.

The N / Team Plasma arc has similarities to the Nebby / Cosmog arc - Both of these story arcs are similar in length (14 episodes and 12 episodes respectfully) and thus have a very tightly-written, compact plot that plays almost like a mini-series. They are also loosely adapted from the games’ plots: a mix of B/W and B2/W2 for the former, S/M for the latter. 

The Meloetta arc has similarities to the Poipole arc - Both are as near cinematic as the previously mentioned arcs but less tight and more open in range, able to be extended through other plot points in the show. They also both feature a cute, rare Pokemon (well, Ultra Beast in Poipole’s case) who take a liking to either Ash or Pikachu and travel with them. Both arcs are also a part of both shows’ second years and conclude at the end of that year.

There are specific callbacks made to the Original Series - The biggest one in BW being the return of Ash’s Charizard, the biggest in SuMo being two guest spots by Misty and Brock.

The pattern of the movies in each year is the same - A well-crafted but notably flawed movie in the first year, an excellent movie that does something entirely different than what’s come before in the second year, and the weakest movie that stars Mewtwo in the third year.

The show's primary focus is on humor, adventure and character dynamics as opposed to shonen-style battling, shojou-style beauty contests, or adherence to formulas of the past - Really not much else to say here. That description kind of speaks for itself already.

The Pokeani fandumb can't stand it - For many of the reasons listed above, especially the previous one, since BW and SuMo both directly followed shows that were fandumb darlings because their primary focus was on shonen-style battling, shojou-style beauty contests, and adherence to formulas of the past: DP and XY respectively. Thus they will not shut up about how much they hate BW and SuMo, especially when compared to DP and XY, and take every opportunity on every platform they get to bitch and whine about how they’ve ruined the anime because they dare to be catered toward kids and not toward them and their entitled desires. But personally, I’ll take a well-made kids’ show over a bland, edgy pander-fest any day.

WHAT SUN & MOON DOES BETTER THAN BEST WISHES:

The animation - Many knock SuMo’s art style and I will admit I prefer BW’s, but the actual animation in SuMo is leagues and bounds ahead of not just BW but every previous series.

The humor - Not that BW couldn’t be funny, because it often could, especially when Shoji Yonemura wrote an episode. But SuMo, under new direction and with a new head writer plus many other new writers, is fresher and funnier in its humor, and it makes me laugh harder.

The worldbuilding - Unova may be rendered faithfully from the games, but Alola is even moreso. And because it only has a limited number of locations to use, it can flesh them out considerably more than locations in previous regions, building a recurring cast of side characters along with it, and as a result Alola feels realer and livelier than any prior region.  

The central cast - In BW, the central cast was relatively small as usual: Ash, Pikachu and the rest of Ash’s Pokemon, Ash’s two new companions and their Pokemon, and Team Rocket. Everyone else were occasionally recurring side characters. But in SuMo, we not only have Ash, Pikachu and the rest of his Pokemon, and Team Rocket, but also Ash’s five new companions / classmates, Professor Kukui as the first professor to be a regularly appearing character, Burnet, Samson Oak, Lusamine, Faba, Wicke, Gladion, and each of these character’s Pokemon!  And they all manage to be so varied, interesting and enjoyable! 

Ash, Pikachu and the TRio’s characterization - Ash may have had a sillier, more childish personality in BW, but it wasn’t done well. He was still written as pretty boring, irritating, and 1-dimensional, with Pikachu still being little more than a parrot who just reacted to everything in the same way Ash did. You can chalk that up to Atsuhiro Tomioka still being the head writer. And as badass as the TRio was in BW, they mostly had to suppress their personalities while on the job in order to get things done, and this rubbed many viewers the wrong way. SuMo, thanks to head writer Aya Matsui, actually writes all of these characters better, with Ash being enjoyable and endearing in the first time since forever, Pikachu actually having personality beyond Ash and even able to do things without him, and the TRio managing to be badass while still displaying their personalities...and it’s their actual personalities from back in the OS days, not the flanderization from AG and DP or...whatever the Hell they were in XY.   

The personal arc of the heroine(s) - Iris has one of the better personal arcs of any Pokeani heroine, but it was still notably flawed: in the middle of the show’s second year it suddenly stopped for a lengthy period of time while Ash and Cilan hogged the spotlight, then the writers had to pick it up again in a totally different and bumpier way than intended thanks to B2/W2, and then it got rushed to its conclusion at the start of the third year, with no follow-ups until an episode in the Decolore filler arc and a connected side-story special that aired five months later than it was originally intended to. There are no such issues with Lillie, Lana and Mallow’s arcs, which progress in a natural way, with Lillie’s standing as the best in the whole Pokeani.

The Myth Arc - Wow, was BW’s Myth Arc screwed over! Iris’ connection to it was severed, Zekrom never showed up again after the first episode, N and Team Plasma didn’t appear until the third year and their storyline was drastically altered from what was originally intended, there was a 45 episode gap between events transpiring within it, and just like DP’s it ended in an anti-climactic way and well before the actual show was ready to end...it was just a mess. SuMo, otoh, has its Myth Arc centered around the secrets of Alola unfold from start to finish without a hitch, and unlike XY it actually fully transpires within the confines of the show.  

The League Tournament - The Unova League sucked, there’s no way around it. Aside from Ash vs. Stephan, it was a travesty in everything from characters to story to battles. But the Alola League is the exact opposite, being the best League arc the Pokeani has ever had.

The show's structure in general - BW’s structure is solid for the most part, but there are some problems: half of the second year’s story stages (Nimbasa City Tour, The Road to Mistralton, and End of the Badge Quest) are notably shakier in content than the other stages from the first year and other half of the second year. And then there’s the goddamn third year, which not only has the aforementioned Unova League but also is paced like a checklist for the rest of the Unova Saga, speeding through the climax of Iris’ personal arc, the Unova League, and the N / Team Plasma arc that wraps up the show’s Myth Arc, and then wasting the last 5 months on the wildly uneven, passionless Decolore filler arc which was clearly mandated so that early Gen VI promotion could happen that would be certain to air in the US during those games’ worldwide release. SuMo’s structure is almost flawless in comparison.

The “Shudo style” - While both BW and SuMo aimed to follow the style of the OS’ original head writer Takeshi Shudo, the writing team of BW under Atsuhiro Tomioka weren’t quite as properly equipped to do so in spite of director Norihiko Sutou’s best efforts, often coming off as trying too hard. When they nailed it, they really nailed it, but otherwise you could tell it was an imitation. With the writing team of SuMo under Aya Matsui, it feels so much more natural and true. It’s ironic, since all of BW’s writers actually worked alongside Shudo when he was around, but Matsui and her team are somehow more instinctively inclined to Shudo’s style.

WHAT BEST WISHES DOES BETTER THAN SUN & MOON:

The villains - SuMo has a villain problem. Team Skull doesn’t show up nearly as much as they should and Guzma only appears in the third year to be the villain of the Alola League arc, Giovanni and the elite Team Rocket squad of Matori Matrix are great but also very seldom appear, Lusamine isn’t a villain at all, Faba does a good job as the villain of the Nebby arc but he becomes a full-on good guy afterward, a rich asshole named Viren becomes less threatening and more comedic the more he shows up, the Ultra Beasts are just rampaging monsters, even the TRio and their Pokemon sit out of doing evil deeds regularly. BW, when in Unova at least, handles its villains a lot better: the TRio as the regular villains are actually competent and threatening and true representatives of the Team Rocket organization, Giovanni has a constantly looming off-screen presence even when he isn’t showing up in person and Dr. Zager is great at filling his commanding role in his absence, and Team Plasma appears with their own story arc after the overarching Team Rocket arc finally concludes at the end of the second year and, Ghetsis aside, are portrayed very well.

The rivals - The only rival characters in SuMo are the games’ rivals, Hau and Gladion. Hau only appears in one episode before the League, where he loses to Ash in a hilariously cruel way that underscores just what an afterthought he was to the writers, and while Gladion is a great rival for Ash, his personal arc has nothing to do with him whatsoever, it’s all about him and his family. While BW’s cast of rivals weren’t always handled properly, they at least provided a lot of variety: with Ash’s rivals being Trip, Bianca, Stephan, Cameron, and a League-exclusive rival Virgil, Iris’ rival being Georgia, Cilan’s rival being Cabernet, and even Ash’s rival Stephan getting his own tournament rival in Montgomery. It especially seems odd that SuMo has such a larger central cast than usual, and yet only Ash gets any rivals. Wouldn’t it be awesome if Lillie, Kiawe, Lana, Mallow, and/or Sophocles had rivals? Yeah, large casts of rivals didn’t work too well under Tomioka, but Matsui could’ve made it work!

The scenery - The price for such great worldbuilding in a limited number of locations is that the scenery is going to stagnate. You’ll be seeing the same environments episode after episode after episode, and it can get tiring. The benefit to a series where the characters are always traveling is a variety of scenery, as almost every episode has a new location in it.

The dramatic weight - I don’t know what it is, maybe the art style, maybe the constant injections of humor, or maybe just the situations themselves, but the occasional high-stakes events in SuMo just don’t have the same gravitas that the high-stakes events in BW have. With BW, I always felt something serious was at stake whenever a big crisis hit, whether that be Castelia City, Milos Island, all of the heroes’ Pokemon, individual lives, the entire Unova region or, in one case, the entire world. I’ve never felt that with SuMo, all of the big events involving Ultra Beasts and Legendary Pokemon feel smaller in scope and more contained.

The English dub - The English dub of BW gets weaker as it goes on, but on the whole it is serviceable, with a lot of good performances. The English dub of SuMo, otoh, is a disaster. There are very few redeeming qualities to be found. Just stick to subtitles for this one.

I apologize if this is a tad confusing.. It’s a snippet after all. Every chapter has a different main character, though some are two or three parters. This is a horror story so usual warnings for those kind of stories appy!

Thank you for taking time of your day to do this, anon. I wasn’t around when the original hype of the game was at it’s peak, I only got it recently!

Story start

Eli played with the mint in his mouth. The branch chief had a strict ‘no food’ rule in place but he made an exception for things like small candies. Never gum though, he considered it not to be a snack but a toy with flavour.

The entire office was silent except for the silent humming of the computers and the occasional clicking of the branch chief’s pen. [Click Click] A habit, he had noticed.  Eli looked at the branch chief from the corner of his eye, a thing he caught himself doing a lot lately. Not because he was, as his co-workers would playfully tease him with, crushing on the guy but because Eli was bored. Occasionally he would imagine what kind of person would.. or should he say could, fall in love with someone like his boss.

The guy wasn’t handsome by any means and Eli wondered if he ever was. Even in old pictures he would occasionally see on a senior-employee’s desk or an old employee group photo the branch chief had looked almost the same; naturally skinny with a sickly skin and hair color.

If Eli had to call one thing of his boss handsome or beautiful it would’ve been his eyes. There was something about the icy blue of it that just stood out, especially against the backdrop of the rest of his boss. He wondered why he would hide them behind those coloured glasses. According to rumors, Eli himself wasn’t around to see it for himself, the branch chief always had worn glasses in weird colours, pink, yellow and now of course, green.

The odd shape of it made him look bug-eyed and even odder than usual. He was so lost in thought that he forgot he was staring but it wasn’t like the branch chief noticed. If he was working, he was working and not a single thing on this earth or outside of it would distract him from it, he’d only stop to click his pen and that was it. [Click Click]

Sometimes Eli entertained the thought of replacing himself with a bag of flower wearing a hat and a wig and just taking a paid day off, the guy probably wouldn’t notice the difference anyway. However he never did. He was so close to earning that promotion and he really could use the money. Aether was far from the worst job as it was safe, clean and it paid well. Which was good news considering that he was the sole breadwinner in his household. So if the boss needed a sucking up to, he was there. Not because he like the guy, no far from it, the guy was an asshat, but because flattery gets you everywhere.

He would offer to get lunches, to come in earlier and already boot up all the PC’s, to be close to him so that if he ever needed anything- he’d be there in less than a minute. It was soul crushing, but Eli know he was close to get his reward. Lately whenever, he did something well, he would notice a faint smile on his boss’ lips, a genuine smile, not the creepy one he would sport for events and tours.

“Eli.”

The sudden voice halted his train of thought right away. “Huh- I mean, yes branch chief?” Eli had made a habit of calling his boss by his full title, a thing that earned him lots and lots of points and would always pay off.

“Do you ever think about leaving this place?” The fact that he didn’t get an ear meant that his first response was deemed good enough.

“No, sir. I love it here.” Another rehearsed response. Sure, you were free to leave and go do something else but that’s not what his peers wanted to hear now, was it?

“Good, very good. Because see, there has recently been a job opening- It’s still within the wonderful foundation but it’s higher up and of course that means.. higher pay.”

For a split second Eli wondered if his boss rehearsed this as well but he shook it off, he worked for this and he had earned it. He never made fun of the guy and even protected him. He needed this promotion and he deserved it! “And you are telling me this because…” He dared not finish the sentence himself, afraid that he may mess up.

“Because I consider you a worthy candidate.” [Click Click] Eli felt his inside become warm and bubbly but he contained himself. An employee must always be prim and proper, that was the rule. “I- Thank you, sir. I do not know what to say.”“If you say yes, you can start tomorrow.” [Click Click] 

The next day Eli arrived even earlier than he usually did. He shifted his weight from his one leg to the other and was looking forward to wearing a different uniform from now on. This one was tight and a little too revealing to his tastes.

A cold finger suddenly poked his neck which made Eli jump a little. He turned around ready to confront his attacker when he saw it was his boss. He wondered how it was possible for the guy to have fingers THAT cold while wearing gloves.

“Branch Chief..! You scared me.” Eli had not hear him walk in at all, one would think that wearing golden plated heals would make you less stealthy but the branch chief proved otherwise.  

“Apologies!” He threw his hands up in the hair like he genuinely meant it. Eli had worked for him for almost 6 years and never heard him apologise, not just to him but to everyone the branch chief talked to. It was always THEIR fault. “Also please, call me Faba.” He said with a grin that would make a cheap cartoon villain jealous.  

“Come now, can’t be late to your first day, now can you!” There was a weird hint of excitement in Faba’s voice. Deep down there was a voice within Eli telling him to run, just run and never look back but he ignored it.

[Click Click].

And then it was gone, the entire feeling of anxiety and nerves, just gone. Was it really so weird for Eli to think that his boss was genuinely happy for him? Of course he was happy, he was his protege! With a spring in his step he followed the branch chief to the elevator and watched him punch in a code he never saw before.

“You’ll be working a little deeper down than usual. It gets a bit clammy because it’s below sea level but otherwise you won’t even notice the difference!”

The elevator went down for what felt like almost 20 minutes when it came to a stop. Eli never knew that this was under the surface.. He couldn’t wait to tell the others about it.

He couldn’t believe what he saw, to the left and right of him were huge thick doors that seemed impossible to open. He thought about the fire safety drill they had to do once a month and how this was absolutely not fire safe. He kept looking around till he slammed into Faba who had come to a sudden stop and got a facefull of hair.

Faba was almost a head shorter than him and landed face first in the little tuft of hair on the top of his head. “I.. I’m sorry..” Eli braced himself to be scolded, to be told to turn around and hand in his letter of resignation but to his surprise the branch chief just smiled.

“I should have told you I was stopping. My bad.” Eli now noticed that Faba had taken his glasses off, icy blue eyes looked at him like he was wounded prey and [Click Click]. Actually scratch that. It looked fine. Pretty even.

“So this is where you’ll be outfitted, you have to look the part. Presentation is everything.”

Eli nodded. He was not going to mess up again. If the branch chief told him to jump he would ask how high.

“I’ll leave you to it! Privacy is also important.” And with that Faba turned on his heels and left the room, the thick and heavy doors slamming shut behind him.

Eli looked around and found a locker with his name written on it in neat handwriting. Like Faba had said there was an outfit waiting for him. A lab coat that looked like a simple version of the one faba was wearing, some new looser pants and new shoes and gloves with a golden rim.

He changed faster than he ever did and looked at himself from all angles and decided that he looked good.

Eli smiled and felt amazing, this paid off. Finally he could do more in life that just work. Now he could spoil the people at home, maybe take them to vacation. Kalos is nice this time of year and-

He swallowed hard, did he hear a voice? It wasn’t the branch chief voice, that was sure. He held his breath when he heard it again, a faint voice yelling for help. It was so far away but it was human and in panic.

“Hello..?” The word barely escaped his lips and he only now realised how dry his mouth was. Eli scanned the room and saw an air vent, a few inches above the floor. He got to his knees and put his ear next to it.

His stomach turned. He heard something that he could only describe as soup falling to the floor, it sounded wet but with stuff like noodles in it, the screaming slowly faded away.

Eli brought his knees up to his chin and wiped away the tears that had formed in the corner of his eyes. Maybe… Maybe he heard wrong. Maybe it was something else. The foundation.. it helped people and Pokemon alike. Maybe someone was watching a movie, but it sounded so real.. He should tell the branch chief or his new co-workers.. Wait- did he ever see someone wearing the outfit he was wearing right now?

“Already tired?”

Eli jumped up, equally happy to see a familiar face but terrified from what he just heard.

His heartbeat slowed to a normal pace again and he exhaled. “I’m.. I’m so sorry, branch- I mean Faba. I just thought I heard something and it scared me.”

Faba looked at him, icy blues piercing directly into Eli’s soul and that smile… It seemed to go from ear to ear with slightly crooked teeth that looked weirdly sharp in this kind of light.

“Oh that.” And that was apparently all he was going to say on the topic. “I returned because I forgot something important. See, you’ll be working in a place that is a little… let’s say more dangerous than your old job so you need to be wearing this!” Eli looked at the box Faba was holding, it was neatly wrapped, like a present but Faba seemed way more excited than he was.

He carefully unwrapped the box and looked inside. It was a helmet. A weird one, with a mouth piece that looked like a modern gas mask and a golden vizor that covered the entire face.

“Tadaa!!” Faba was giddy like a mom who bought her kids that new gaming console when she said she wouldn’t. “C’mon, put it on!” He guided Eli’s hands towards the helmet and helped put it on.

“Thanks..” He realised his words were slightly slurred a thing he wanted to apologise but before he could a sharp pain like a knife stabbing his brain shut him up.

Eli started to panic and had trouble breathing, he fell to the floor and tried to pry the helmet off but it seemed tighter now.

Thursday Night PokéAni LIVE! (September 13th 2018) post-log

A bittersweet end of an era...goodbye Thursdays and thank you Bebenomu <3 :’)

WHAT. A. FINISH. Based on what I’ve seen (without the subs yet) I already know this is gonna be in one of the top SM episodes on my list! EVERYONE, not just the Ultra Guardians, but Alola as a whole teamed and gave their light to bring Necrozma back to normal! Something worth mentioning though is the discovery of Royal Mask’s identify by Faba xD Kukui had no choice but to send out that Incineroar to help ward off Matori Matrix (I hope that isn’t that last we’ve seen of them!) With Solgaleo (& Ash) and Lunala (& Gladion) giving one final Ultra strike, thus ends the chaos that ensued in the region. 

Of course the most depressing and touching thing about this episode is saying goodbye to our little Poipole friend who had to go back to its home world (┳Д┳) It painted Ash & Pikachu’s face as a goodbye gesture, and what even made it sadder is the fact that Bebenomu cries like baby....it doesn’t help at all with this goodbye ;_; STAPH! The flashback scenes in the end AND THE TIMING OF THE OP was absolutely magnificent! They had a reason for not playing that in the beginning and they timed it perfectly in the farewell scene. I honestly don’t know how the dubbers are gonna pull that powerful scene off, so good luck to them. We’ll miss you old friend...the series isn’t over yet, so maybe we’ll see it again :’D I HAVE HOPE!

Also today is the end of the Thursday era for new Pokémon episodes. I don’t know about you guys, but this is a really BIG change for me personally. I have been tuning in EVERY Thursday to watch RAW footage of brand new episodes since 2008 (10 years ago...WHERE HAS TIME GONE WOW) during my high school days. I’ll probably make a separate post about that soon on how I got into watching subbed Pokémon episodes, and my feelings to the new schedule change so keep your eyes for that if you’re interested for a #P J storytime post. With that being said, I am now officially Mr. Sunday Night :p

But a 3 week break dang...guess I’ll have to do a lot of catching up with a few other things I need to take care of...y’know LIKE SLEEPING. I have an EU clock lately, and that’s not good for my health :^) I’ve been getting a couple of job interviews too, so I should really fix my clock! But when we get back all I’m thinking about is HAUHYPE HAUHYPE HAUHYPE HAUHYPE HAUHYPE BROCKANDMISTY?HECKYEAH HAUHYPE HAUHYPE HAUHYPE and CANIPLEASEHAVEGUZMANEXT x3 I have been waiting for Hau ever since SM anime first started in 2016 because he is probably my favorite Sun & Moon character :D MY BOY HAS FINALLY MADE IT TO THE SHOW YESSS!!!! Dad fans, welcome to POKEMON DAD RATER: EPISODE RAINBOW ROCKET EXCEPT IT’S YUGIOH DADS.

Pokemon fathers are pretty notoriously terrible, which is why this blog exists, but is it possible that there could be EVEN WORSE dads out there from another dimension?? Who knows!! What we DO know is that YuGiOh has taken over our headquarters and it’s time to D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-DAD DUEL!!!

Each of these fathers must be defeated before we can send them all back to the Shadow Realm and return the blog to normal, and to do this we must RATE them over the course of this next week! Seven days, seven dads! In the end we shall see if Pokemon dads are truly the worst, or if there are some others out there who make Giovanni or Ghetsis look like Father of the Year in comparison!

In his travels around the world in pursuit of knowledge, Ghetsis has likely met more of the canon characters(and plenty of OCs haha) than he realizes.

(Gonna preface this with that I’m not about forcing headcanons on others, so others are welcome to disregard this thought, of course! But, y’know, I like rambling.)

In particular, I imagine he's met a college-age Cyrus some 10-20 years ago, and has seen if not interacted with Lysandre, probably before he decided it wasn't worth it to constantly try and give to a world that would not give back. He's probably been to the Aether Foundation as well.  And look! This one has babies! Hello small children do not be afraid of the 6′6″/200cm tall man with the angry eyebrows and the scary cape covered in eyes who abandoned his own son in the woods and then adopted some orphan girls and called them goddesses to groom them into aforementioned son’s caretakers before reclaimining him from the woods and grooming him to be the perfect candidate to summon a legendary Pokémon and a figurehead king with intent of world domination, and all three children only learned to believe what he wanted them to believe about literally everything and were never allowed to go outside until he was ready for his plans to go into effect and even then only the son was and that was so he could convince more people this man was right. Totally harmless man that’s not a threat to any children at all and won’t try and kill several of them, including one of these children, at some point in the future. :)

I tried to think of how he could have met Maxie and Archie, and somehow it wound up with him meeting them when they were kids, already with these ideals of changing the world in their heads, but ultimately too young to do anything. Ultimately, the only primary villain he probably hasn't met is Giovanni(and Guzma and Faba if he counts) and even that could be debated.

Of course, since Ghetsis does love the myths and legendary pokémon of the world and so many of the villains' plots involve them, he's happy to have locals teach him about the legends of their lands and all manner of other things. And many of the villains are obsessed with using them in their plots--it’d be a great opportunity for him to meet people with such strong passions--before they start doing anything too crazy, of course. Ghetsis is open minded and interested in culture. . .but he is still a little bigoted. Mostly on the basis of 'not me' as opposed to 'not like me' or ‘not like normal’ really.

He probably finds Lysandre most interesting, as he's also of royal lineage, and he was such a nice, generous young man, always doing so much to help those around him. (When he learned about what happened in Kalos years after his defeat. . .he was a little shocked, really. But also amused. He hopes he's still alive. It'd be a shame for someone with such potential to have had taken himself out through hubris. . . . And in my own 'canon' he is still alive. But, y'know, this isn't about him.)

Rather than faced each other directly, players competed against one another in assassinating identical targets. Ghost Mode was a 1v1 mode where players competed against each other online as Agent 47.

Combat will be extremely hard and NPCs will be more aware of their surroundings, making stealth gameplay a greater challenge.(basically HITMAN 2016’s Professional mode where foot steps are heard) As with the progression system. (basically HITMAN 2016’s Normal Mode but some guards positions from Hard mode have been added) Master is extra challenging. Cameras work like cameras and Mirrors work like mirrors but foot steps are not heard. It gives players a feeling of being a true assassin, using all of the game’s intricate mechanics to assassinate targets. Also Security Cameras have been removed in Casual Professional is the default. It gives players an easier way to experiment with the world without fear of failing. There are three difficulty levels: Casual, Professional, and Master. The game also features Elusive targets British actor Sean Bean portrays the first elusive target Mark Faba, aka “The Undying”, a MI5 agent turned freelance assassin. The Picture-in-Picture feature, first introduced in Hitman: Blood Money, also makes a return in HITMAN 2, which will pop-up a small screen in the corner of the player’s screen when other characters do something of importance during a mission, such as when and how someone discovers a body. New features that come with HITMAN 2 include camera view grids, where players are able to see the field of view a camera has by way of a displayed grid, seen on the floor or wall where the camera is facing when using Instinct Mode. From an assortment of weapons, environmental hazards, distractions and tactics, creative use of the world is at your disposal, along with the return of opportunities and hints from the previous game which aid players into seeing some of the more spectacular assassination methods. Missions take place in dynamic locations across the globe, where players can utilize the sandbox nature of the maps to their advantage in order to achieve their goal in any way they see fit. For the first time, players are to complete contracts either solo or with others via online co-op in the Sniper Assassin game mode, in addition to the standard single-player experience. In HITMAN 2, players once again take control of Agent 47 in order to fulfill assassination missions.

I don’t know, I’m clicking back and forth between her official art from Emerald and from SM to compare them, and I’m not seeing something that couldn’t be easily disregarded by at most just letting the SM anime style balance out the change in her appearance. She doesn’t have to age to have long hair and different clothes, and the anime already changed her personality dramatically from the games years ago so her serious personality from SM wouldn’t be brought in now anyway. The shipping hints from Battle Frontier would simply be ignored. I can’t imagine the writers would want to poke that hornet’s nest by bringing back any other crush on Ash from the past when it looks increasingly likely Serena isn’t going to appear this series.

As for the International Police, there is one thing that’s been bothering me from a recent episode that relates to them.

The way this scene is set up initially, Faba could have accessed any public documentation of Team Rocket. It certainly wouldn’t be hard when the aircraft had giant R logos on it.

....but where did Faba get this file? Would detailed information on an elite force within Team Rocket just be publically available to anyone, especially when the unit appears to be unknown enough for Jessie, James and Meowth to appear to not know about it themselves?

As far as I think there’s only two places Faba could have gotten that specific information from. Either he got it from Nanu, and Nanu had it because of whatever his past connection to Giovanni is, or he contacted the International Police.

They’re not going to show up for the UBs like they do in the games. They’re going to show up to help stop Giovanni and the Matori Matrix in the anime’s adaptation of Episode RR. The UBs will just be a small part of that, so all the lore involving Fallers is unnecessary. There’s even a space that opens up for them to play a role because of another character who would be even harder to translate from the games’ Episode RR to the anime:

There’s no way the anime could reasonably explain away Colress being a hero after how he was in Episode N, let alone how he got out of jail. I guess the closest they could come is saying that he cut a deal to help the International Police, but his relevant appearances prior to Episode RR have already been cut (thanks to the Ultra Recon Squad being gone and the N-Solarizer and N-Lunarizer being unneeded)  and his biggest moment in Episode RR is his confrontation with the alternate timeline Ghetsis, which absolutely is not going to happen in the anime.

So the outside help the Aether Foundation could call for against Team Rocket almost certainly won’t be Colress like in the games. The likely source for the information Faba received would be the International Police investigating Team Rocket like they did with Team Galactic and Team Plasma, so that scene with Faba could be a very early start to set things up for later. There’s also Nanu’s connection to Giovanni that likely won’t be revealed next week still to come, so while Giovanni said he was surprised Nanu became a police officer we simply do not know enough of anime Nanu’s past to understand the context of that comment yet. For all we know, he could have been an undercover agent within Team Rocket spying for the International Police back then.

I mention all of that because it establishes a plausible case that the International Police already have an investigation of Team Rocket underway, hence the existence of a case file on the Matori Matrix that Faba was then able to acquire. If this is correct, the International Police will absorb Colress’s role in the adaptation of Episode RR, and if they do then the agents sent to Alola would be Looker and Anabel to cover the SM Looker Episode as well.; Anabel being assigned to the mission not because of anything involving her being a Faller but because of the recurring use of Ultra Aura and the one-sentence handwave of her having stronger Ultra Aura than normal to explain it. Everything else aside from a brief mention that Ash battled her in the past would be irrelevant to the story now and go unacknowledged, while she would maintain her more lighthearted personality the anime already gave her. Her empathic abilities, if they were acknowledged, might actually be a useful loophole to demonstrate what “unusual Ultra Aura” actually means.

Fuckinghell i got to That Part in USUM and it was even worse than i expected

Kfuckinh fuck i alreadyhated lusamine cos i hadan abusivemum like that in real life but this time i wanted to fucking stab her actual eyes out with my thumbs! How can a bad writing flub trigger such a huge ass panic attack in me!! Am i really that pathetic!! God im just sitting with my face in a fan cos im overheated as fuck i was all fight or flight mode just about hitting the A button and knowing the next scene i get will be Somehow Lusamine Was Right, in the place of the execellent callout scene lillie got in the original. So much actual detailed analysis of child abuse and now NOPE ITS OKAYMOMMY HURT U FOR A GOOD CAUSE

And what i hate so much is that they didmt even completely rewrite it! This isnt even an 'alternate universe story' where lusamine was a good mom, which would already be problematic in context but at least there'd be an excuse for it. Nah instead they just left in all the foreshadowing leading up to her being abusive and all the scenes of her being a fucl but just at the last second its ok cos something something necrozma.

Things that are still canon in this universe:

lillie and gladion ran away from their mother and nearly died on the streets and all that

Lusamine still controlled how much they acted and looked and etc that lillie has anxiety over picking her own damn clothes in a shop (and gladion mentions the same in an optional dialogue that also wasnt removed)

"Oh no its a big reveal that aether foundation is evil and working with team skull and they kidnapped lillie and now u have to fight thru an entire foundation full of evil murderous adults and also faba the fuckmeister supreme"

Lusamine wants to murder cosmog to open an ultra wormhole and laughs about it

Lusamine has an entire fuckin secret room full of pokemon corpses preserved in ice so they'll 'stay beautiful and never disobey'

Lusamine tells her kids theyre disgusting for disobeying her and she doesnt love them and never did and also they are selfish cunts for daring to want to be not abused

Then she fuckin attacks them, and you fight

Fuckin ALL THEY CHANGED was that at the end shes like 'but i do it cos necrozma bad and i was really save world'. And the writers seem to think that this somehow justifies her actions rather than just making her an equally evil equally abusive person who just has a dumb knight templar reason for why she thinks she's in the right. Like maybe you could say this would make her more redeemable in the end, i guess?? Like if she actually had a proper redemption plotline you could use this as a springboard to jump off in order to create that plotline. That she was once good and her evilness is a very specific sort of 'murder and hate is justified because my purpose is so important' kind of thing, which should honestly have led to her personality being entirely different and written entirely different. But you still actually have to write a redemption route! Shes not just suddenly good because she has a motive for being evil! And shes not even as redeemable as the other villain bosses, if we only hear about her 'good reason' AFTER we see her do everything evil! And her evil is so much more personal than the other bosses! Like maxie and archie were still likeable eveb before their VERY EXTENSIVE AND WELL WRITTEN redemption plot, because their evil plot was abstract and nonsensical ('destroy world') rather than actual detailed real life crimes to characters we care about. Abd very manipulative and deliberate ones! Maxie and Archie had it established very early on that they THOUGHT what they weredoing would improve the worls even if it was obvious they would actually destroy it. Lusamine didnt abuse her kids accidentally or because of a mistake, the only way she thought she was doing the right thing is that she thought her kids were ungrateful evil fucks who deserved being hurt because they MERELY WOULDNT OBEY HER EVERY WHIM! And we see this from the perspective of the kids who are very much just goddamn innocent kids and very much show actual realistic ptsd symptoms and relateable stories of abuse. So yeah lusamine already starts at a higher tier of villainy that would require more redemption than archie and maxie, even if you can technically say 'maybe her plan to beat necrozma via pet murder and child abuse might actually work'. (Or, in the origonal, that technically her plan was just to fuck off to another dimension of obedient mindless slave jellyfish and never come back, which is technically less wprld damaging than the hoenn guys.)

And just MANNNN what i really hate is that they didnt remove anything except like.. The parts where you sympathise with the kids. I feel like the scene of lillie at the clothes shop early on and the dramatic break in to aether paradise were just left in out of laziness more than anything. Like theres a lot of stuff that seems 'oh we have to do that cos thats how it went last time, but lets half ass it and rewrite the dialogue shorter and rush to my New Bits'. I feel like if someone played this first before sun and moon then half of the plot wouldnt make sense! But why did they choose to leave in just enough that it made lusamine still look like a monster, if she never gets her comeuppance!!!

And man i really fucking hate how they rewrote lillie and gladion during the big plot swrrve into LUSMINE HAD GUD REASONS 2 DO THE THING. Lillie says barely anything and gladion is suddenly all 'please stop because I CANT LOSEYOU ASWELL AS DAD, MOM' not fuckin please stop because you are murdering nebby and you just told me you dont love me. Andthen hebegs her to take him with her to fight necrozma becauseits type null's destiny to be a beast killer?? When just five seconds ago hehad unchanged dialogue about how he saved type null becauze he saw it was born and raised to be what its 'parent' wanted it to be, just like how lusamine abusively raised him. Like fuckin entire story about him escaping to be himself and give this lil frankendog a chance at a real normal life, just WHOOOSH right over the new writer's head...

And then THE FUCKIN WORST BIT is that they kept the same scene of lillie sleeping in lusamine's bed but changed all the dialogue to just 'i'll sleep here' *scene ends* rather than 'i remember when i used to sleep in her bed after nightmares when i was like five and thats the last time i can remember that it felt like she actually loved us, i need to sleep here again to say goodbye and steel myself to fight to save the world next time we see her'

Fuck this game really is like a weirdass rom hack some other guy did of a game he didnt understand. It at least makes me feel better to know it was directed by a different team and isnt considered the 'final full version' like platinum and emerald and stuff. I felt practically gaslit when i was tryong to reconcile the idea someone could write a complex analysis of child abuse and then unwrite it as if it was never important. Was it never really intended to be abuse at all and i was just imagining it?? But nah no its just someone else handling the expansion pack for a game and turning it into an 'alternative story' with his different lame motiveless Bad Legendary villain cos somehow he didnt think the original was good enough. Fuck, it was the most emotional most terrifying villain boss of all time, fuckin geez what is wrong with you!
