Bingqiu AU where Luo Binghe's the chosen village sacrifice to the evil deity who lives up the mountain.

Normally the village sends maidens, but they've more or less run out of expendable girls of the right age and, ahem, "virtues". So of course Luo Binghe's early life bad luck kicks in. In the wake of his mother's death there's no one to really care about what happens to him, he's fairly pretty, and the village leaders decide that if they dress him up like a girl the teenaged homeless kid should pass well enough. And hey, y'know, he's probably got a hard life ahead for him anyway -- dying in a brothel of some venereal disease or on the streets of exposure or starvation. At least as a sacrifice, everyone else gets to benefit from his loss! And the kid will get added to a shrine and be remembered as a hero! If anything, he should be happy about this!

Binghe is not happy about this.

But he's also a skinny underfed nobody who is easily overpowered, dressed up like a bride, and tied to a post. So. Not much he can do but wait for the evil deity to come and do whatever horrible thing he's gonna do to him.

Meanwhile, Shen Yuan is pretty sure he's been isekai'd into the over-powered hero of some kind of supernatural adventure story? He's not totally sure because he doesn't recognize the setting, but the signs are there. He's got a shrine-like base of operations (though it seems to have become corrupted/ruined, probably he has to restore it somehow), he has a very resilient and handsome new body with spiritual energy of some kind flowing through him, and a very clearly magical sword. Plus lots of neat starter powers! Though it feels like he has other abilities that have been blocked somehow? Probably he has to level up in order to access them.

When he treks out of his "base" and finds what seems to be a distressed maiden, he takes it for his beginner hero mission. The girl claims that she's been doomed to be sacrificed to an evil god. That sounds a little above Shen Yuan's pay grade for dealing with, so he unties her and decides that they had better just get out of the whole region altogether. He already packed up anything useful from his base, anticipating he might get caught up in an adventure once he left, so they follow the river away from the settlement until they reach another one.

While they travel, Luo Binghe tells Shen Yuan about the cursed deity, Shen Qingqiu, who was cast out of the heavens for slaughtering one of his brethren and has apparently being do-who-knows what to maidens from the local village in exchange for his "protection" ever since. Sounds like a real asshole! And also mid-level boss type bad guy at least. Shen Yuan hopes he doesn't have to fight him, but he probably will.

Thank goodness he found Binghe, though! Clearly the helpful little sister type! He's definitely going to require her assistance if he's going to figure out how to navigate this world and level up his skills enough to take on a god.

confession time, but I actually enjoy yuuji’s fights more than sukuna’s who’s btw the most skilled sorcerer in the manga.

I just find yuuji’s fights more entertaining, since he for the most part has to rely on his physical prowess alone. he’s incredibly agile and adaptable. he knows how to adapt to his teammates and use their strength as his own, which makes him a far more versatile opponent than sukuna who always fights alone and often keeps his opponents at a distance to study them. 

sukuna for all his skills and knowledge heavily relies on his curse technique and DE, both of which don’t require physical contact and can be activated from a long range. he often plays tag with his opponents and combats them only when THEY close in on him. basically, sukuna likes to keep his distance when fighting (because it gives him an advantage and more room to observe his opponents) 

whereas yuuji… oh boy. he doesn’t let his opponents BREATHE. he’s all offensive and no defence. only bites and not a single bark. he’s the one who chase his opponents, corners them and engages them in physical combat. his blows are always bloody, precise and controlled. he uses he’s whole body as a weapon and his surroundings like a box full of tools for him to use. he’s opponents can only run from him or keep him as far away as they can cause he simply doesn’t let on. he is just going to keep chasing them till he is close enough he can sink his teeth in them and defeats them from there. no other character can match yuuji in his resolve to defeat his enemies.

So this is a very vibe motivated au that I came up with (as in there are too many aspects of the canon plot that would have to be re-examined but that's not a job for me) and it was mostly a hypothetical for "what if the twinyards were fraternal twins of opposite genders and had a way worse relationship than they do in canon?"

And the answer is a ballroom + fem Aaron au apparently. So basically all I have is the following:

Aaron (Aria in this au) breaks the deal with Andrew in highschool which prompts them to go their separate ways in college

Neil (trans) stays at millport for longer (he still plays exy but he's also introduced to ballroom) and he's again recruited by wymack

Not sure whether to have Aria study in PSU with a dance scholarship or not, but anyway the point is that she befriends Neil and convinces him to dance with her

I guess it would make the most sense for them to dance American rhythm but in my head they also dance international latin

I would imagine that thanksgiving is the first time Andrew and Aria have been within close proximity to each other in a while (which makes what happens probably a lot more complicated bc yes, Aria does kill drake)

One of the main conflicts I originally thought of was based on Neil's love for exy vs his love for ballroom, and I think it would be interesting if he's forced to keep playing exy bc of his deal with ichirou but he didn't actually want to

see i am 20 and none of my friends or myself have really gone through a Bad Breakup, but the album still makes perfect sense to me. maybe that’s because im able to empathise with the experiences laid out in front of me idk. but it is interesting that people struggle to understand something i find fairly easily explainable

Yeah! When I say it's the quintessential thirtysomething album, I mean it as shorthand for like, the culmination of life experiences and grief and struggle and rebirth and finding yourself and whatnot. Which typically happens by the time you hit your thirties many times over, and yes there are specific things she talks about on the album that are VERY salient to people in that age bracket, but that's another discussion...

But I do think the Empathy thing is also key. And to be clear: I am not saying people lack empathy if they don't like the album, or like the story, or whatever. (I am being mindful that words have impact and we are all people behind our screens and keyboards so I am not trying to paint everything with the same brush.) Everyone has their own life experience and everyone has experienced grief and trauma and more importantly processes it differently. Many, and perhaps even most, of us would not have taken the actions Taylor did. But that's the whole point: we all do things differently and learn from them differently.

I have never been in the specific situation Taylor has been in, but I have had a loved one live with incredibly difficult mental health (and physical tbh) challenges that made them behave in a very particular way, which is why I relate to so many songs of Taylor's on such a visceral level that I feel like she was in my walls. And that is why my heart goes out to her throughout all of TTPD, because even in my fraction of an experience (that isn't nearly as traumatic as what she went through, although this isn't the Trauma Olympics), I know how absolutely gutting it is to live that way, like the way it changes your brain chemistry, and I can't even imagine how much more exponentially painful it was in her circumstances with everything else she was dealing with and living it 24/7. If I felt like complete shit with the person firing off missiles every day, I can't even fathom what it's like when that person is your entire world and future.

I'm not going to make generalizations about how others interpret the album or feel about it or the situation about it, because I've learned that again, my words have consequences and I don't want to hurt people. But I will say I'm grateful that I DO understand the album in the way that I have interpreted it because it has given me so much pleasure to talk about and delve into, and has led to some wonderful conversations with friends here AND broader conversations about some really important issues surrounding womanhood among other things.
