Idol Land PriPara Episode 04

It was really nice of them to just release it on YouTube after we haven't been able to access it on the app. Okay here we go!

How is Amari SO RELATABLE. I do this basically every other day (i.e. think someone's actually talking to me when it's someone else and have to play it off).

Anyone a lawyer here? What legal recourse do I have for being drawn into an anime without my permission I SWEAR TO G--

Also Amari is wearing a Pretty Rhythm recolor(?).

So the plot of this episode is basically: Amari hears about some other girls going to the beach and thinks about how she hasn't made her "beach debut", but that's fine by her since she doesn't have a real bathing suit, confidence, etc. She then goes to Idol Land PriPara and, despite her best efforts, promptly gets automatically thrown into a bathing suit and forced to compete in a promise event.

These are some oooooooooooold coords. Do they really deserve all the fanfare? Hahah. Well, they are the only bathing suit coords so far I recognize as being real coords anyway.

(Unless there's anything from PriMagi or late-stage PriChan. I wouldn't know. BTW, if we ever do get any PriMagi recolors in Idol Land PriPara let me know because that would be great.)

In order for Amari to compete, Yui not only names herself Amari's new manager, but she just straight up gives her My Dream as well.

And they even made it official! AWWWW! I wonder if this set up is something that will continue after this episode.

Are we ever getting new mic these toys btw or is the show just going to advertise toys that don't exist.

WAIT.

I just noticed Nino and Michiru are still using their Idol Time mics which have somehow been modified to take keys. So I guess these aren't new toys at all.

HUUUUH.

So what I think I gathered from before is that Yui is just a zombie in real life because her idol soul is trapped in the rice cooker in Idol Land? Or something like that? They made a point to show she's alive and well here but I don't know if that makes anything better. I mean, I wouldn't want her parents to worry but wouldn't it be more interesting if Shogo has to continually convince his parents Yui is at some kinda summer camp or something haha. IDK.

Oh, is this a cameo by one of those celebrity groups I keep getting asks about?

(I mean... I don't care in the slightest but at least it will make someone happy haha.)

So, let the games begin!

Sophy has a throwaway line here about how Non Sugar isn't participating because of "pool inspection". I guess they have to clean the pool at their school? OH REALLY? Is THAT where they are?

This may or may not be my new desktop background.

So, partway through watching this episode I became disappointed when I remembered that it was spoiled long before that Dressing Pafe would be performing in this episode.

Oh boo. Well that spoils who wins the competition then.

But then I realized

what a fool I was

Since when is Dressing Pafe allowed to win ANYTHING

But well. Anyway.

This was a very different song for Dressing Pafe.

AND I LOVED IT!!! Goosebumps!!

Too bad it was apparently only good enough to open for a SoLaMi Smile performance we have already seen before JUST WITH DIFFERENT COORDS THIS TIME.

Okay I lied. These bathing suits are real coords too. PriChan recolors actually! And I... like them? Well. I like them more than the originals anyway, they have more details. Also any PriChan nostalgia, good or bad, is hitting me right in the feels currently. Also it's just funny how things are coming full circle.

So Amari didn't win the competition and we didn't get enough kirakira to unlock the thing, but the episode ends with Amari thanking Yui for helping her make her "beach debut".

There was a subplot about Gaarmageddon getting lost trying to find a shortcut to the beach event

It's very whimsical and they're having fun! But I don't think it's appropriate for an updates account #I recently turned off notifications for QsmpEN and I'm considering muting them because half the updates just aren't helpful to me #I want to be able to speed read through the update thread I don't want to spend an additional 30 seconds trying to decipher who's who #I don't like posting complaints so I tried to make it a funny complaint #because I do think feedback is good! And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way #but at the same time: these update writers ARE volunteers #(As a side note -- I personally think anyone running a large social media account should be paid)#(I did that for a few years and it was hell. so about the header that proceeded today's statement:

Viability as agent: Low

Viability as subject: None

Viability as catalyst: Medium

i didn't know what to think of this part of the entry at first, but the longer the statement went on... was the institute in this universe trying to manufacture avatars?

the dice can't do anything without someone to use them, they can't be an "agent" by themselves, but might be capable of manipulation, so in that aspect their viability is "low."

the dice could be a "subject" in the sense that they could use further studying, but the statement itself was a very thorough investigation of their workings, so in that aspect their viability is "none."

the dice seem to influence their holder to roll them, or at least find more victims to roll them, and could therefore be described as a "catalyst" for someone's becoming. but, as seen in the statement, their owner can give the dice to someone else (albeit not without consequences), so in that aspect their viability is only "medium."

so what about the line following all this, what does "Recommend referral to Catalytics for Enrichment applicability assessment" mean? if we go by this interpretation, i'd say it could mean the institute wanted to find a way to make the dice even more potent as an artifact, maybe even remove that pesky ability for their owner to reject them.

imho all of this this brings a whole new level of context to the events of episode seven, of unknown violent agents going after an influx of objects that seemed straight out of artifact storage. was that the nature of the titular "magnus protocol" first mentioned in episode four, the one that involved the starkwall group? containing or destroying potential artifacts before the institute could get their hands on them?

it also makes their "gifted kids program," and sam's link to it as one of the kids being studied, all the more horrifying to think about. was it not just avatars in general they were after, but child avatars specifically? no wonder gertrude got so defensive over the possibility of sam and celia dragging gerry back into the institute's business last episode, we all picked up on her clearly knowing more than she's letting on but now we might know the shape of that information a bit better.

and one final bit of food for thought... this statement had a lot of familiar themes, didn't it? free will or the illusion of it, gambling and not-so-random chance, the statement giver being done in by one final hit from what feels like a bit of an addition... all hallmarks of a certain mother of puppets. doesn't it seem fitting that "chester" would use this kind of statement to warn sam about what harm pursuing the magnus institute could bring to him, considering the one his voice might draw from? and doesn't it seem so painfully ironic that his warning seems to have only driven sam further into that web?

i swear my stepdad is so illogical AND stubborn it hurts

#okay so strap in coz this is a wild ride #tl;dr we have been without heat and warm water for years and i mean literal years #because he refuses to pay off some debt he built up with the company #because he feels unfairly treated (let's not get into this. it absolutely makes no sense) by the company #so instead of doing the logical step of growing some balls and admitting he made a mistake and paying off his shit #he's been looking for a new supplier all over but the deal IS #that he's been doing this with a couple of places before and people are hesitant to even make him any offers #and you'd think that learning about THAT at least now he'd be like. idk willing to just pay off his debt and be done with it #but you'd be WRONG #now he's looking to just have our entire heating system replaced for the teeny tiny price of 25000 bucks #mind you his debt isn't even a THIRD of that #and obviously he can't afford those 25000 bucks #so what's his next step now you might wonder?#well good thing you asked. his next step is going off on ME for not paying towards the new heating he wants #and now that that's not working for him guess what he did next?#that's right. he bought shit expensive 'space heaters' that are pretty much just small little boxes that you plug into an outlet #and he swears up and down that they're going to heat up our house (it's negative degrees outside)#(it's obviously not working)#and genuinely. all i can think of is how much money he shoved into trying to macgyver this house into a house with warm water and heating #and how he blew off ten thousands of bucks he got paid when he retired within the span of two weeks #when this debt could have been paid off ten times over by now #so now you might be thinking. okay tiago. why don't you move out #good question you see. my mom is disabled and reliant on someone who cares for her #something that he can't won't and shouldn't do because the last time he sorta kinda tried she almost died and we had to call an ambulance #she wouldn't eat a thing if i weren't there to cook. the house would fall into disrepair if i wouldn't do maintenance all around #i've set up (functioning) heat in some areas she occupies and i've gotten a boiler going so she at least has warm water #i'm paying off their bills to make sure he doesn't skip on paying any others. i'm buying groceries for them because again they wouldn't get #any for themselves #and finally. i've offered to pay off his debt so that we can finally live like normal fucking people do #and guess what. guess WHAT. he just got mad at me for not adding money to that 25000 bucks pool for that new fancy heating he wants
