So I’ve been meaning to do a post on this topic for a while now, specifically ever since the release of the RWBY Volume 9 Epilogue short had me reevaluating one of my big issues with the volume. Namely this:
Just because a theory or take might work great for one specific character DOES NOT mean it works for the story as a whole.
You might have what feels like a great theory or take for this one character that could make total sense for them and could be great to see.
But ONLY for that character. Because this theory, as great as it might sound on paper, ignores drastic issues and effects that it would cause to OTHER characters or story elements or tone or themes that simply make it non-viable.
Essentially, it’s fandom tunnel-vision making you forget that nothing exists in a vacuum.
Alternatively, it could be taking issue with a certain narrative choice made for a certain character that might feel like it’s not living up to its potential or just being angry that your favorite blorbo didn’t get to do or be this thing you really wanted for them. All while ignoring that this writing choice could have been done to facilitate a much LARGER narrative goal.
So let’s talk about the end of Volume 9 and why I can no longer take issue with the choice to de-age Jaune.
Some might recall a post I did shortly after the end of Volume 9 decrying how Jaune was turned back to his young-adult age. How this felt like a typical ‘magic reset button’ that undid so much of the potential that ‘Old Man Jaune’ had and how it would have been so much more interesting to keep Jaune old and letting both he, the characters and the story explore and grapple with these changes. Essentially, a classic rant about ‘wasted potential’.
HOWEVER… after watching the Epilogue animatic, I get it. I get why CRWBY not only CHOSE to physically reset Old Man Jaune, but why they actually HAD to.
Because that ending scene with Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang and Jaune walking out of Raven’s portal, being reunited with their friends, seeing everything that Ruby’s message accomplished, and that overwhelming feeling of pure HOPE that the volume ends on…
That just wouldn’t have worked with Old Man Jaune.
CRWBY wanted to convey a feeling of pure HOPE and relief and optimism and an unambiguously HAPPY ending, and Jaune coming back as this old man so different from how his friends remembered him would have DEMINISHED that feeling.
As much as I like the idea of Old Man Jaune and don’t like the idea of this kind of ‘magic reset button’, I have to agree that turning him back to young-adult Jaune was the RIGHT choice for what Kerry, Miles, Eddie and the rest of team wanted to do for the end of Volume 9.
And I think there’s a lesson to be learned from that, you know?
That headcanonning might be fun, but if you’re going to be doing real serious theorizing about what you think or hope might ACTUALLY happen in a story, and perhaps even more importantly if you’re being CRITICAL as to what a story has already done, you have to keep a more holistic, ‘big-picture’ viewpoint in mind. Particularly for a complex, long-form story with a lot of moving narrative parts like RWBY.

Why is Mina's Linkverse?
I've been into the legend of Zelda since age 10, when Skyward Sword came out. Of course I was excited when I saw the fandom here on tumblr suddenly awaken larger than before. The release of botw was quite an event.
What I came to find however, was that I was struggling to connect with the fandom and its works. Dont get me wrong, the creators here are incredible and deserving of great praise. The problem wasn't them, but something in me I wasn't able to shake off.
After a lot of introspection the conclusion I came to was that the largest "issue" was how trauma was being explored.
I've been through absolute garbage, and know so much of that rage and pain. For a long time I thought I'd always feel it. I felt like a fire had been set in me and to extinguish it would only let those who hurt me win.
And I do think that past me was right, I think there are parts of me that will carry those burns forever. However with time I found myself less bothered. I infact was getting bored that my mind wouldn't just let me move on from that already.
I'm not a therapist, I don't truly know if what I say is accurate to more than myself— But in recent years I've started to see a world beyond what happened to me. I'm never going to be the woman I thought I'd be but I'm someone capable of finding happiness and security. There's still huge set backs and things that I've barely made progress on... Thing I've given up recovering... But I've seen it. I've seen that things can turn around and get better.
A lot of the fandom writes trauma as something larger than life. It's the main anatoginist, it gives the characters depth. In most cases, I think that's totally fine. In fact when I was still in pain I read works like that almost exclusivly. It was comforting to see myself in art.
But now that I've seen things can improve, I found myself desiring works about that. I wanted to see the cast of games I loved with all my heart to find that bright future too.
...So that's why Linkverse is here. I'm humbly offering the idea that these boys can heal and find bright futures. Maybe I could even reach a real person who feels like I used to. A girl can dream.
I also think its worth making the point that trauma doesn't make someone interesting. Healing doesn't make someone lose what made them worth reading about. Happiness can be as complex, deep and valuable as sorrow. Both is good.
So uhm. Yea! Yea. Yup.
This might be a webcomic about gnomes but I'm pouring my entire heart into it. I hope it shows and reaches others.
#Stuff like this is scary to write#But it also feels important#Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read this

if we're talking personality disorders (of the cluster b variety). obvi its not 1=1 but its far more likely and reasonable to say toga has bpd (with izuku or ochako being her "favorite person") than aspd. also when people call villains (or characters they don't like (← seen this one more than the first tbh)) "unsympathetic psychopaths", it really feels like they know nothing about aspd, personality disorders, and how they form. It also just feels kind of ableist towards real people with aspd? idk maybe i'm seeing things that's aren't there
These people know that aspd (and other personality disorders) form due to outside factors right? obvi there's the genetic factors but that just increases the possibility. these outside factors typically tends to be factors that is in some way traumatic for the person in question like emotional/mental abuse or neglect (*gestures to dabi*)
if anything, based off of that alone, toga being a "psychopath" just makes her more sympathetic in my eyes and people around her even more unsympathetic than they already are and I doubt anyone calling her a "psychopath" without aspd in mind wants that
.
.
.
this is also how i feel about people needless throwing around the word "narcissistic"* when it comes describing bakugo. (saying this as someone isn't a fan of him). bakugo with npd** could make him a more interesting if written correctly*** tbh and could probably be backed up in canon but in turn it would force people to seriously think and question if he actually had a good childhood and good parents… which from what i've seen alot of anti-bakugo people (including the ones that call him a "narcissistic") believe he has
*i'm sure there's bakugo stans out there call him "narcissistic" without npd in mind but atm i've only seen bakugo antis do that
**same with aspd
***without portraying bakugo as an ableist stereotype and/or excusing his actions
.
sorry abt the rant i'm just tired of the demonization surrounding personality disorders
You're definitely correct anon in saying that people tend to use words they either don't know the full meaning of or just mental health issues to demonise characters they don't like and this is a problem within all fandoms I have interacted with not only MHA.
When people use the words "psychopath" or "narcissist" it's rare to see them using it in the right context as most of the time it's used to demonise a character. For example take atla I have seen plenty of people label azula a psychopath but they do that to demonise and dehumanise her not to actually say that she is mentally ill. The same thing is done with characters like toga, Dabi, shigaraki and more!
Now I know that you're mainly quoting of the ask that @sapphic-agent sent me and actually she has made it clear that she doesn't view toga as psychopath and actually brought light to the issue of people dehumanising and purposefully misinterpreting the leauge. Now I don't know much about aspd in general but from what I have seen toga does seem to have some symptoms of aspd but it also makes sense to speculate that she may have BPD (none of this is cannonically confirmed but they would make for some interesting headcanons). Also like you mentioned it would be incredibly interesting to explore how toga got to such a mental state in the first place as mental health issues can happen to a variety of reasons for example or could be an environmental or social issue as we see that toga wasn't given the right support at home and was taught to simply build a mask and burry her urges deep down until it all broke and she broke, toga associated blood and cannibalism with love and self expression from early on. Also, it could be a biological factor since toga was born with a strong fascination for blood.
Overall, toga and her mental state is heavily influenced from all of those factors and it would be interesting if she was cannoncially diagnosed and had that be explored in depth.
However, mha does already have a character who is heavily implied to be mentally ill which is twice. Twice is heavily implied within the show to suffer from DID (dissociative identity disorder) and I think the way horikoshi presents this is really interesting it's to the point that it's incredibly integral to twice's character whether that be his name or what his quirk is.
We see exactly how his mental state worsens in his backstory and how he has reached his breaking point multiple times. Twice is also presented as the most redeemable of the leauge and we see that even with that the system doesn't care for him as twice mercilessly kills him even though he had a high and good chance of being saved and redeemed.
I do wish that hori spent a bit more time delving deeper into twice and developing him before killing him off while also making his death have a long lasting impact between characters (specifically the league)
I think what's interesting is that hori doesn't demonise jin for his mental issues but addresses them in a serious manner and a lot of the scenes where we do see him struggling we are able to feel a lot of sympathy for him.
This ends up being the exact opposite of what people usually do by demonising mental health and using it to dehumanise characters. Horikoshi uses it to humanise his characters whether that be twice who struggles with DID or tamaki who struggles with social anxiety. These issues are brought to light and aren't a one time thing but it's something that's integral to their character.
Now, moving onto my final comment : yep it's bakugo!
I admit that I have seen many bakugo antis and critiques label bakugo as a narcissist. I also believe that they don't inherently speak of the mental disorder when labeling him in such a way but use the word in exchange of other terms for bakugo like self 'absorbed' or 'selfish' or 'only cares for himself' etc.
Now, I agree this is bad and shouldn't be done. I do however want to offer my own view on this subject (iam also a big bakugo critic/anti) I personally don't think that bakugo suffers from Narcissistic personality disorder and I don't think that mitsuki is abusive towards her son.
I think that the scene with mitsuki hitting bakugo was played in a comedic light. This is the only scene we see mitsuki act aggressive towards bakugo in the whole manga while in the other scene she expresses concern over her son (for example katsuki doesn't like rain etc). I think @delawaredetroit post surrounding this has the best explanation
I also want to add the fact that bakugo feels comfortable enough to sit next his mother. He is right in between his parents (he could of sat away from her closer to his father if he wanted to but he didnt). Bakugo also feels comfortable enough to express himself in such a manner whether that be him calling his mother "hag" or also shouting at her when he is equally pissed off.
I do think that because the manga had already made it clear that abuse was a theme that was in the story and gave us an example of abuse (the todoroki family) that many did raise their heads at this scene and may of been concerned that this is abuse when it's not but its hard to spot since it's being presented in such a weird manner.
You do have a point bakugo's behaviour comes from somewhere and that's not talked about enough. I personally think that horikoshi didn't explore how society influenced bakugo's behaviour and his raging quirkless discrimation (maybe it's because hori didn't want to paint bakugo in such a bad light so he didn't make him prejudiced against the quirkless and didn't explore the theme of quirkless discirmation that he implemented into the story). There is also the superiority and inferiority complexes that bakugo seems to have that could be a result of a mixture of factors (biological, social and environmental) Now his brash behaviour could come biologically from his mother and it turned worse due to his environment where he was built up to be this guy who had everything so he should be happy as he fits into the status quo.
Tldr: mental health shouldn't be used as an excuse but it also shouldn't be used to demonise characters either.

I would like to focus on the music chosen for Hob Gadling's 80s sequence.
I'm extremely late to the world of The Sandman (finally binged it two weeks ago after my mother had been begging me to watch it with her and now I'm more obsessed than her) Bottom line: I'm unbelievably glad I finally watched this beautiful piece of television.
I have yet to read the comics but as for the first season, I have to say, without a doubt, my favorite episode is Chapter 6: The Sound of Her Wings. Death's 20-min segment is a beauty unto itself, but I'll be focusing on Hob's segment today. Specifically, his 80s scenes.
Considering I'm so late to this fandom and exploring all of its wondrous details and themes, excuse me if this has already been noted. I've been thinking about these details over and over but I need to get it out there in the Sandman world and hear everyone else's thoughts.
*Also excuse the terrible photos - Netflix doesn't let you screenshot and I was too lazy to get another app to let me bypass it. Please bear with my photos of my laptop screen.*
There are three songs that play throughout this sequence.
#1 - "She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals
I accidentally deleted half my post mid-writing this but here I go again.
As we can see, after the breakup scene, we open up on Hob Gadling (he looks amazing in his 80s look, by the way) and this song plays.
Here are the lyrics:
I mean - where do I even start LMAO.
*Let me just give another note - regardless if you ship Dreamling romantically or not, I will be merely analyzing these lyrics as they are and how they convey Hob's feelings for Dream in general. But, I mean, the songs are THERE, the text is THERE. So do with that what you will.*
This will go for the following two songs as well, but these songs are placed with meaningful intention. Each of these offer a unique lens and dive into Hob's feelings.
I won't be annoying and over-explain anything, but the lyrics are clear I feel:
"She drives me crazy" - cough
"Things you do don't seem real" - in Hob's view, Dream literally is an enigma. Hob has no idea the capacities, the limits, and even the name of this being he meets every century.
"This waiting 'round's killing me" - well.
"Everything you say is lies" - now I wouldn't say particularly lies, but Dream does keep and omit things from Hob. Understandably, Hob would find himself in a confused limbo with Dream.
Here's the kicker:
"I won't make it on my own/No one likes to be alone." - HELLO. I mean, if this isn't the core message and pinnacle of Dream and Hob's lesson to immortality.
As Death mentions earlier in the episode, around 18:10, "Most of us will be glad for the company of a friend."
I feel I could go on forever and ever about the beauty of this episode and how well The Sound of Her Wings and Men of Good Fortune intertwine. They beautifully complement each other as stories lamenting the dichotomy of life and death, and the joys of humanity.
But essentially, Death reteaches Dream how beautiful humans can truly be, and in this pivotal moment, she says this zinger of a line. The camera was initially on Death but for THIS line, it cuts to Dream.
BECAUSE - poor Dream is definitely in need a friend.
Which is then shown to the audience by the 30-min long Hob Gadling sequence that ensues, and we see Dream's aversion to needing someone, to needing a friend.
But I digress - back to the song, and that one line about not wanting to be alone.
That is such a poignant line, because as much as Dream felt alone and needed company, so does Hob? An immortal, constantly seeing the death of others around him, his companions and family long gone, he needs someone.
Considering this 80s sequence ruminates so heavily on post-breakup feelings, Hob is missing Dream dearly. His constant in life.
I'm rambling too much, onto the next one!
#2 - "Shattered Dreams" by Johnny Hates Jazz
Time skip to perhaps a few hours later, who knows. We see Hob still waiting for Dream, alone in the pub.
Hm.
Literally what else could I say. I'm being slapped in the face with pining and angst and longing.
Here are the lyrics:
Some noteworthy lyrics:
"So much for your promises/They died the day you let me go" - this breakup man
"Caught up in a web of lies" - another lie motif
"I thought it was you/Who would stand by my side" - the theme of Dream and Hob being constants in each other's lives
"Shattered dreams" - I could scream. The title of the song. SHATTERED. DREAMS. giggling rn.
"Woke up to reality" - I think that's a very interesting line toeing between the constant references of the Waking and the Dreaming
Basically, I've been noting these evident similarities within the songs to align themselves to Dream and Hob's situation, and it's clear that the director/writers chose these songs with intent of it paralleling Dreamling.
So that makes it even more insane when lines like "From this empty heart" are meant to parallel Hob. Like.
Okay, last song.
#3 - "Keep On Moving" by Soul II Soul
This song plays as the night progresses. It's late, it's clear Dream isn't showing up, and Hob is feeling pretty final about that, and perhaps he's accepted it at this point. Dream isn't coming.
So this is where he speaks to the bartender and that scene ensues.
Here are the lyrics:
The themes of time and clocks are super prevalent within this song, and again it's once more clear how heavily this reflects and represents Hob.
Noteworthy lyrics:
"Why do people choose to live their lives this way?" - I think this also uniquely touches on the general aspect of humanity and one's reason to live/love life. Dream battles with his confusion/slight disappointment for humanity at the beginning, as he asks Death, "Why would any sensible creature crave an eternity of this?" And then Hob helps Dream realize why there's so much to live for. (24:30)
"I know the time will come today/The time will come one day"
"Walking alone in my own way" - Again this idea of walking alone and needing company.
"You'll be in my life, my life always" - Dream and Hob being constants again.
This all goes to say - Hob cares. He cares for Dream.
And I just think that's very beautiful. The magnitude with which Dream's absence means to him and how much their friendship/companionship both means to each of them. I just think their connection is a beautiful thing that I love seeing and rewatching. Wonderfully, these songs give the audience even more layered insight into this connection.
This was super long, and I apologize if I went on some tangents. But I also just couldn't help it, The Sandman is so incredibly rich in its storytelling and its connections and dynamics that I had to write this all down. I also just very much appreciate the amount of care and detail that goes into every aspect of television, and needle drops such as these three songs are no exception.
Thank you for sticking with me through this! Can't wait for season 2!

In your opinion does "The Owl House" have any re-watch value? Does the story, characters, characterization, writing, etc. hold up over repeated viewings or is the show played out after the first time through the series?
So I want to acknowledge that this is actually an awkward question. Not with how you phrased it or anything just... Period? Because whether something is rewatchable will mostly come down to personal taste and enjoyment. Some people find Horror movies to be great fun to rewatch while others may not see the point because you already know all the scare moments or answers to creeping dread. Some might find action movies exciting to rewatch while others need the novelty of a first rewatch. As such, my answer is very much so is going to be biased by the fact that I ended up not liking the show.
But... I broke essentially on rewatch in a way. A lot of people have shattered on TOH essentially from having to reconcile what it says versus what it does. A lot of this because TOH constantly kicks payoffs down the line and hints at potential it will reach. It is constantly making the journey suffer for the promise of a grand finale. And, well... A lot of people have agreed that the shortening did not force their hand to break multiple themes in the finale, or take Amity's character or a bunch of other things that bloated the series and never got a proper payoff, such as the Collector.
This format of TOH I think is actually what makes it so hard to rewatch unless you are the ultimate fan of it who will notice nothing. S1 is labeled as boring, a complaint I even agree with as someone who mostly likes S1 still. It spends the most time setting up plot lines though in episodes that are a pretty safe seven out of ten, or worse. Amity episodes can escape this problem decently often, being fun in their own right, but that's why the fandom only acts like half, at best, of S1 even exists. Most of it is easily forgotten because it's very forgettable. Not like in a S1 of Amphibia way where it's all so much fun but also so much of it that they can blur and be hard to separate but just in a "I just wasted 20 minutes of my life watching an okay kids cartoon" way. The only thing that helped those episodes not feel that way was this idea that it was building towards something with these characters.
And... After the shock of things like the Lumity Kiss being real, I don't think S2 holds up for being the majority of those payoffs. Amity and Willow? One of the most explicitly kicked cans? Seen interacting on the same side before either addresses the "We're not friends' thing because of Eclipse Lake, so that's pre-shortening and they still didn't decide to address and then address it badly. Luz's magic is wrapped in a plotline she's not a part of and has no real reaction to even. It's just "Oh, we're just making bullshit up now instead of finding glyphs? K." Amity's parents are wrapped up, in the same episode, early S2, in a very similar way where Amity is barely a part of that episode but now her core angst and excuse for being a bad person? Dealt with and out of the way, at least until they randomly decide to try and say Alador TOOOOOTALLY wasn't a bad guy. That he hated Odalia too. Totally doesn't contradict literally everything that came before, something that would be much more sharply noticed on a binge rewatch. Like... It cannot be understated that by the point most plot threads in TOH wrap up, they were introduced and left to rot for so long that half the time, the fandom was starting to get UPSET during the runtime for the lack of any exploration or conclusion. Long hiatuses didn't help but at its core, even when it was running people were wondering when we would get satisfying answers to thing and rarely were they happy about it.
I think this is a core part of why ONLY the shipping community seems to have clung to TOH. That or people who are exploring the show's missed potential with characters like Belos or the Blights. The fandom has had to either commit to the one thing TOH did do well, its shipping (that comes with so many fucking asterisks) and its potential baiting. But the latter also means you have to recognize why it failed in the process of doing your exploration of the work.
So will some people enjoy rewatching it? Of course. There are people who probably like rewatching the AtLA movie though because the die hards are die hards. Do I think from a casual perspective you get much out of rewatching a random episode, let alone binging the series again?
No. I just think disappointment that the main series will leave you, which will eventually no longer be tempered by the reputation of it having been shortened, will only get worse. It is not a tale worth seeing again, so I hope I see you in the next one.

Zoé Lee - An Analysis (Part 2)
As I said on Part 1, Part 2 is going to be about Zoe on Season 4. So, finally time for Sole Crusher!
Firstly, I would like to start this analysis by saying that the start of the episode is very interesting. This season is mostly focused on Adrien and Marinette (to our suffering, because the show definetely doesn't not know how to write this two), and yet, Sole Crusher starts without both, and instead, is focused on this completely new character that, in theory, we haven't seen before.
It's not the only exception this season, since Mega Leech has Mylene and Ivan on the start, Crocoduel has Juleka and so on, but, just this starts helps to set the tone for the episode.
I also would like to comment that it's weird how a scene like this only happened on season 4. Like, the show is set on France, and, I understand that for the Crew that works on the show, it's just day to day life for them.
But, considering it's a kids show that is very popular around the world, it's weird how they didn't take adavantage of their media to teach children about France.
Just a side tangent.
Either way, the episode takes time to show Zoe for the first time. Kind of funny how it didn't quite matter in the end because of the trailer.
I would also like to comment on the fact I have a bit of emotional attachment to this episode because it was one of the first cases of us in Brazil broadcasting a miraculous episode before any other country.
We in Brazil only get to dub and broadcast episodes from Cartoons way after they realease world wide. Steven Universe's first seasons wait was painful...
Zoe's first appearence was quite interesting back then because, the majoirty of us, fans, had already seen her with the pink highlights.
It didn't take us long to came to the conclusion she would dye her hair at the end of the episode, but, it was still a surprise none the less.
(I also think I prefere her natural hair, or that they chose blue instead, because there is too many girls with pink already in this show).
The scene on the bakery is... one of the best in this entire show.
As someone studying animation, I had classes of dialogue and writting.
Summing up, for a dialogue to be good inside a movie, or a show it needs to either to move the plot forward, or to explore and present things from the character to the audience.
And this scene and its dialogue do both.
It shows us how Zoe is this nice girl, who has many traumas from the past, and that, for some reason, it's scared and hesitant of meeting her family.
It also creates a bond between Marinette and Zoe that will be important for the episode later on and future plots.
Speaking of her... Marinette's characterisation is also great this episode. The fandom as a whole nowadays is very critical towards her... and they have very good reasons to do so. Like, how she never learns with her mistakes and keeps repeating them and her stalker behavior.
However, the Marinette of Sole Crusher (and most scenes she is with Zoe), is a completely different character.
This Marinette has finally gained more confidence. She isn't as shy, and, she may be a bit clumsy, but she is even able of joking about it now.
She also cares for those around her, and doesn't jump into conclusions as we see later on. And, for the first time in a long time, she doesn't speak or focus on Adrien.
It's a shame that this more mature Marinette isn't used in other situations. Such as when she is Ladybug, or on her interactions with her other friends and Adrien.
But, this isn't an analysis on Marinette, but, Zoe, so, I will stop speaking about her.
Then, we have the shoe scene... which, I know has touched the hearts of some in the fandom.
The crew uses the shoes on this episode to show a character's values, beliefs, and their identities.
Zoe's sneakers represent her real self, the one who is judged by Audrey and Chloe, the one who Andre says she will have to hide to be accepted, like how he had too.
And the diamond slipper's that Chloe has represent the general Bourgeois belief. That if you were born rich, you have the right of stepping on others.
I know it's not that deep of a metaphor, specially on the context of the episode, but, it's still something. Specially considering how miraculous writting tends to be.
I will also take the chance of commenting on Zoe's design as a whole.
In general, her design is great! The jacket is amazing, the yellow pants are surprisingly good, and her tennis are full of life! The beanie is something I am torn about. Sometimes I like it, others not.
My only complains are the shirt, just because they try to force the "she is the new bee holder" a bit too much, and because I don't think it kind of reflects her.
Not because only rebel and angry people can use leather jackets, but, because this Zoe is trying to fit in the elitism of the Bourgeois family.
Before you try to argue with me that "It's because she was trying to fit in with the new york youth, and she didn't have time to change", it doesn't make sense, because, from what Zoe comented, her classmates were spoiled, cruel and preppy. So, there is no explanation for her style at the moment.
Summing up, I like the design, but, if I were the one designing it, I would have made her different.
I would have made something more neutral for her, that is neither rebel nor preppy, and then, during the montages, Marinette makes something new to her...
Moving back to the episode...
The scene of Audrey, unlike what the fandom was expecting... is also good written.
A common critique in the fandom was that, from the way Astruc described her, Zoe would be the favorite daughter of both Audrey and Andre. Which wouldn't make sense because, well... Audrey is basically pure evil and only values those that are like her... and if Zoe was trully "really sweet" as she was being described, it wouldn't make sense...
And yes, we, miraculous fans, usually have to worry about inconsistencies like this because they are EVERYWHERE ON THIS SHOW.
(Hi Lila's entire plot; Felix's weird arc; Chloe's weird remption arc, Sabrina suddenly feeling guilty about helping Chloe; Alya believing Lila even after Gang of Secrets; the sentimonster plot for Adrien, Felix and Kagami; hi Emilie somehow being a good mother, although she agreed with Gabriel's crazyness; hi Natalie suddenly caring for Adrien; hi Bustier being a good teacher; Hi derision).
But, to our surprise... they actually kept both characters consistent. Audrey actually seems to not care, but respect Zoe, because she pretends to be what is expected of her.
Now, you may complain that Chloe does exactly the same, and yet, Audrey treats her worse.
The crew probably didn't think that through, but, I have come up with my own theory... Mr. Lee.
After Audrey being introduced, the writers try to convince us that Andre is a pushover husband, and that he is taken from granted (like we saw in Adoration, were Audrey snapped her fingers and got all credit cards she wanted).
So, my theory is that she treats Chloe worse because she transfers the feeling of taking from Granted from Andre to her.
And that she respects Zoe a little more, because she also has some respect for Mr. Lee.
We know almost nothing about Mr. Lee. Probably because he only exists to explain that Zoe is a half-sister, and that's why she was not introduces earlier in season 2 at the "Battle of Queens" arc. And also because they tried to do the whole "Step-family can also be good" arc for Andre and Zoe, which, sounds good in paper, but, I have my complaints that we will discuss further.
The point is: no one knows about Mr. Lee. And that's why the fandom tried to create their own takes on the character.
I have seen some people portraying him as an actually good dad, but it's too busy being a rich man to spend time with Zoe. I even heard of an AU where they join forces to take the custody of the children away from Audrey XD
But, most of times, I see people imagining him as a "Bruce Wayne" sort of guy. Playboy facade to the public, but actually cold on his private life...
Which one the crew probably has in mind? I don't know, but, probably something similar to the second option. Especially because of Audrey's behavior.
In this scene, although she doesn't seem very interested in Zoe, she actually looks at her, asks her a few questions, and even knows her name.
That makes me believe that Mr Lee is someone she respects. Therefore, she will respect, to some degree, his daughter as well.
After the scene is over, the next one is where things start to go downhill for Zoe in the show...
The Framing on this scene makes VERY CLEAR what they were intending to do with Zoe's arc.
From the very first interaction, they do their best to show us that these two sisters are polar opposites, narrative foils, and the perfect arch-nemesis to each other...
And they continue to do it for a long and painful sequence. A sequence that involves Andre getting retconed, the reveal that Chloe locks Sabrina on her closet to do her homework, Chloe bullying Marinette, and Chloe pressuring Zoe into threatening Mr Damocles into putting her with the rest of Mendeleeive's class.
Chloe's character has never been the most consistent. This season, they tried their best to bring back Chloe from season 1 but... this is not her.
Season 1 Chloe is bratty bully that everyone hates, but nobody takes her seriously.
Season 4 Chloe is a insane girl who made a deal with a terrorist. Season 5 Chloe is even worse, but, this is not an analysis on her, so, I will stop myself here.
What's important to comment here is that, although Zoe does whatever Chloe tells her, she clearly looks uncomfortable, telling the audience, and even the rest of the class, that something is wrong.
Then, we arrive at the scene where Zoe pretends she is planning on hurting Marinette and her friends to please Chloe, which leads Chloe to finally respecting her and giving her shoes.
Then, Chloe comments on the Cockroaches idea, and Zoe clearly feels uncomfortable at it.
Soon after, it's the scene with the mayor...
The show tries to convince us that Andre and Zoe are in the same boat of people with dreams trapped in an awful family...
Which is pretty much a retcon, cause Andre was shown in past seasons to have a complex, but loving relationship with Chloe, and the fact that he is a corrupted politician.
He is not in the same situation as Zoe. He is a powerful man who had done very questionable things in the past, and she is a traumitized girl.
It's not the same thing, but, let's move on.
Then, Zoe gives this speech about how she loves acting, but, how it ended up becoming more of a surival mechanism as time progressed as she attempted to fit in. And that she is slowly losing her true self inside of the character she created to please Audrey and Chloe.
Feeling like she has no other option, she "buries" the real Zoe by putting her shoes on Andre's secret spot, and wearing Chloe's high heels...
Then, as usual, Hawk Moth takes advantage of this and akumatizes the poor girl into... Sole Crusher.
Now, Sole Crusher is an interesting case, because, although I like the idea and the powers for the akuma... it's also Zoe's only akuma form and she doesn't even keep her face...
This design DOES make sense, though, because of her original name in french: Pirkell. Which means: "Worse than Her".
Sole Crusher is basically "Chloe Zilla", therefore, the name does make sense.
And, even if her powers may be a bit generic... the akuma really isn't the focus of the chapter.
STILL, the show SHOULD have given her another form.
The akumas are to represent the inner side of each character. Their different thoughs and struggles.
Princess Fragrance represents Rose's romantic side, her love for perfume, and her childlike innocence. Onichan represents Kagami's jealousy and insecurities. Lady Wifi's powers come from Alya's main working instrument. Silencer's main theme is music and sound, things that are important to Luka.
But... Sole Crusher shows nothing from real Zoe. No references to theater, the color blue, her struggles, her desires... nothing. It's just Chloe with a golden filter and horns.
And it gets even worse when we remember that Chloe gets akumatized into "Sole Destroyer" in season 5 (although, according to the bible, it was originally for Zoe to be Sole Destroyer).
I like to imagine Akuma!Zoe as a plague doctor, something I spoke with @nerd-chocolate about.
Why? The somber aesthetic, the chance of giving the plague mask a 'Phantom of the Opera' inspiration, the idea of trying to heal her family's issues...
But Zole Crusher is the best we get for now.
Then, after a scene of Chloe being chased, and trying to save herself by handling other people to Sole Crusher...
We arrive at another important scene.
Marinette's speech with Sole Crusher is also a heart warming moment.
Marinette, who grew to care for Zoe after just a few interactions, is trying to reach out for her, and guide her out of this confusion.
A lot of people memed on her silecing Chat Noir to continue this speech, but, it's actually the show itself acknowledging that Zoe's situation is very serious and shouldn't be treated lightly...
Then the boat scene...
Zoe finally explains to the class and the audience why she has been acting this way.
How she used to be bullied back on New York, how she is afraid of being sent away and having no friends there for her...
And the class? They welcome her with open arms.
Which could be the start of a beautiful arc of self discovery...
Despite the happy conclusions with her new group of friends, Zoe still has one last challenge to face that day... her own family.
Not only Chloe found out about Zoe's true nature, but Audrey as well. And they both want her as far away from Paris as possible.
Why do I say that "both" want that? Cause Chloe literally demands her to go to New York, and, instead of being indiffirent, like usual, Audrey straight up asks to Andre "why they can't send her back".
It shows how Audrey never cared for Zoe, and how, now that she knows who her daughter really is, she cares for her even less than Chloe.
But Andre, who the episode insists is just a guy trapped in a bad family, comes up with an excuse, and a way to keep Zoe with them...
At the end of the episode, we see Zoe doing fun activities with her new friends, getting a pink streak, and thanking Marinette for helping her out...
Now that I spoke on this episode... time to speak of the Good and the Bad.
Let's start with the bad...
The Bad
The writers don't try to hide at all how they really see Zoe.
They destroyed Chloe in ever way possible.
Her friendship with Sabrina, that, was always toxic, just become cartoony and unrealistic. The thing with toxic relationships is that they are not all bad. There are some good moments that keep the victims from leaving their abuser. Like how Chloe gave Sabrina her pin in "Vanisher", or how she protected her during "Ladybug".
Now, Chloe forces Sabrina to do her homework on a literal closet with no source of light and forces her to run to school with her bags.
They also try their best to convince that the problem has always been just Chloe and Andre is just a poor good guy.
Not only Andre has shown to be a corrupt politician (like Darkblade), he has also been one of the main enabler's for Chloe's problematic behavior.
And, although Chloe has never been sweet, there were moments where she was shown to care, like when she hugged him after being saved in Stoneheart.
Miraculous has this thing of trying to prove that the fans critics are wrong.
Usually with plot points that came out of nowhere. When fans complained Adrien was bland and had no development, instead of actually giving him development, they created the sentimonster plot.
When the fans complained about Alya believing Lila, the writers showed us that Marinette could trust her by revealing her identity.
When Marinette's stalker behavior gets criticized, instead of making Marinette notice it and make her work on herself before continuing her pursue of Adrien, they create "Derision".
Zoe in specific, was made as a response to two critics.
The first, that is less noticeable and shown, is "Maribat and Class Salt" phenomenon.
Like, seriously, "Girl with rich father gets bullied on New York and move to Paris and gets welcomed with open arms by the Akuma Class" is the opposite of all the earlier Maribat fics.
The second, and the main one, is a response to "Chloe fans".
People were so disappointed at Chloe's weird arc, that they created Zoe to convince the fandom that "Chloe is the worse, she doesn't deserve anything, and she will never get better BWAHAHAHA".
And they don't even try to hide it. They constantly pit one of the sister's against the other, and try to make this rivalry between the two, as if they are perfect foils to each other.
But, this whole arc doesn't make sense, because Chloe already has a rival: Marinette. And she has a nice rich kid that is kind instead of spoiled as a foil: Adrien.
Zoe and Chloe could have had a bad relationship... but, they try to make it this bigger thing that it's not!
The worst part is how the miraculous crew wants us to like Zoe for the same reason they do. They wants us to like how she is Chloe's sucessor, the new Queen Bee, but, her fans don't like this Zoe.
The Good:
The moments where Zoe gets to express herself, and interact with others that don't constantly compare her to Chloe, are really compelling.
The Scene at the bakery is good. The scene at the rooftop is great, and the scene at the boat, although maybe a bit unnatural, is importnat as well.
The moments were Zoe isn't "Chloe's replacement" but just "Zoe Lee", she is a great character.
She has backstory that explains her actions, has good chemisty with Marinette, and has an arc that could be well explored and developed.
And that's the reason why Zoe fans like her. Not because she is a replacement or sucessor, but because she herself is a good character on her own.
Besides, Marinette actually shows some development here in comparison to the rest of the show.
My final thoughts:
Zoe's debut was, in general positive. She had depth, chemistry with the cast, and interesting struggles.
But the narrative is to busy to make her and Chloe enemies to focus on that, which leaves the episode with a bit of a bitter taste.
And, even if the idea of Marinette having a "nice blonde friend with long hair" or "Chloe having a kind sister that would wield the bee miraculous" aren't new, Astruc definetely only added her to the story as a way to ruin Chloe's image.
Because, in the end, the crew doesn't seem to care for her as a character... but as a plot device.
Luckilly for her, Zoe is liked by her fandom for who she is, not what she offers.
Next time, I will speak on what I consider to be the worst hero debut episode... Queen Banana.
See you all next time.

You know...
I grew up with TNG; it’s always been my Star Trek; I spent much of my childhood obsessed with it. And there I was, watching what promised to be the Last! Appearance! by the TNG Crew! Ever!,
and I felt nothing at all.
Nothing had any weight. The Borg Collective got blowed up real good, but they’d already got blowed up real good 20 years ago, and last season set up another, vastly more interesting version of the Borg anyways if only anyone had bothered to mention them or anything else from the first two seasons, so it means nothing. Nothing had any weight. No one even died. No one even got meaningfully assimilated. Apparently you can just peel Borg implants right off your face without, you know, bleeding to death or ripping out a chunk of your brain. Someone should probably tell Seven of Nine about that.
And now I’ve had a few hours to reflect upon it and what occurs to me is: I think I hate it. Yes, that sounds right. I hate it.
I mean, Nemesis gets a lot of sh*t, much of it deserved, but like…I actually cried during Nemesis. Nemesis also had a fascinating nature-versus-nurture theme, which admittedly, was a come-down from “All Good Things’…” promise of human transcendence, but at least it was something! This just felt like empty nostalgia calories, wrapped it a blanket with bathetic MCU quips. No thought-provoking science fiction. No exploration of the human condition. Just…bloodless violence for an hour.
And then I thought back to how this series started, my beautiful, flawed, Star Trek: Picard; and here I must admit that I’m one of those sad, lonely freaks who actually really liked the first two seasons. I liked the weighty themes of living in the cognizance of death, and the serious engagement with transhumanism. Above all, I liked the characters. Elnor, Soji, Rios, and especially Agnes. And then I thought: what an absolute Insult this season is! You dump all of the characters and you can’t even be arsed to namedrop them. I mean, shit, there’s a reference to Chekov in the first five minutes, but you can’t be arsed to reference any of the characters whose series you hijacked? You have Raffi sparring with Worf and she can’t even mention that her adopted son is a Romulan swordsmaster? You have the Borg invading, and “no one’s seen them in over ten years!” and you can’t be arsed to clarify why that Borg Queen that we all saw Jurati turn into last season doesn’t count? Literally the only allusion, anywhere, to any of the characters from the first two seasons other than Raffi is Shaw telling everyone to “Forget that weird shit on the Stargazer.” That weird shit. Yeah. One of the only characters in all fiction that I’ve ever meaningfully identified with. Thanks, Terry!
But, at the same time…what a gross insult to TNG! TNG, with its humanist utopia and moral conundra and scientific grounding. TNG, which, at its best, showed us what humanity could be; which challenged us to see the world in new ways. Reduced to this. This hollow, plastic pile of rubbish.
But, hey; the reviews are positive! The series is in the top ten for streaming! And a billion YouTube comments have already informed me that, finally, REAL Star Trek is back! Forget “all that weird bullshit,” this is what we, the fandom, wanted all along!
Anyways, can’t wait to see the next exciting installment of Star Trek: Funko Pop

it’s very interesting to me amongst the different fandoms i’ve been a part of in regards to their attitudes toward nsfw fanworks bc with the marauders those teens are always wildin’ - smoking, drinking, sleeping together - if they’re not i would even say it would be out of character for them? wolfstar is messy and horny and so in love, even if in a lot of fics they won’t admit it to each other. in atyd everyone is shagging up a storm, the girls, the boys, it’s still juvenile of course the way they discuss it and go about it. very little communication, feelings are hurt, they don’t know what they’re doing all the time. and it makes sense, they’re teenagers!
i have never once heard of discussion around it being ‘wrong’ to write them this way. that it’s ‘objectifying’ and if you’re thinking about it you must be weird or unnecessarily sexualizing characters. sexualizing characters? they’re already sexualized wdym? they have a sexuality, everyone has a sexuality, whatever the author/artist wants to give them, whether that’s a sex crazed maniac or the most sex repulsed asexual, they Have a Sexuality! even before the exact moment they turn 18, they have a sexuality. it’s just another facet to explore character through, to understand them more fully, and also sometimes for the author to help understand themselves.
i’m sorry age doesn’t matter when it comes to fictional characters. it just doesn’t. they’re not real you can’t hurt them. if someone wants to write through trauma, something ‘wrong’ and ‘problematic’ let them use fictional people. it may seem gross and you don’t have to read it, but its existence does not mean promotion of harmful behavior. it can mean so many different things to that author but it doesn’t equate to that.
i say this bc i myself have written some horrid things. i’ve never posted them, was not in a place where i wanted to, i wrote it all in a period of my life where i was seriously hurting, and writing fucked up horrific things stopped me from hurting Myself. i’ve read some ‘problematic’ fics that made me feel better, hurt me in a good way, reading comments of people who related and appreciated what was being explored.
most people who write about fucked up shit, SA, or some form of trauma porn or whatever it is have probably gone through something similar in their life. the people who read it and seek it out are usually drawn to it for a reason but we don’t need to know why. there is also just curiosity. and being curious doesn’t make you a bad person, it doesn’t mean you ‘like’ it. you may like the power dynamics at play, you may be intrigued by desires different than your own, you may… ANYTHING what you enjoy to read or write speaks to nothing regarding who you are in your day to day life. your morals, your beliefs, or what you want sexually or otherwise. i say this to a younger me, there’s nothing wrong with you!
with all that being said… there is also porn that is just porn. and that’s perfectly fine and good too. people have always written porn about whatever and whoever they want and they always will. if you don’t want it, scroll pass. you won’t be given a gold star for announcing you think it’s gross or wrong, you just look silly. i’m not saying that you must like it too, but attacking the moral character of those who do partake, shows an immaturity and lack of tack when it comes to these subjects. go out in the world and you will discover just how ‘abnormal’ and ‘depraved’ sexual desire can manifest itself as.
as someone who grew up a Very sexually confused person. not knowing i was queer or on the ace spectrum exploring sexuality through fiction was like my saving grace. and those books and those fics that made me feel seen, made me go huh! woah! ooooh my god that’s me! or made me go … wait why do i kinda like that? more often than not they were written by adults. bc they had made it through to the other side so to speak. and as An Adult now i find the traditional adolescent experience very intriguing as i did not have that growing up. the sexual experiences i’ve had now have shown me so starkly that that feeling which accompanies a new experience never really goes away. people are fumbling well into their 20s and 30s. reading the plight of a young person discovering who they are sexually i don’t think will ever not be relatable or make someone reflect. that includes the sweet and innocent as well as the ‘gross’/depraved horniness. it is not necessarily enjoyed on a basis of attraction to these characters, it is enjoyed on a basis of ‘i know this feeling’ or ‘i also do and have yearned for this kind of intimacy’. and if who you are isn’t represented in those stories, oh well damn, looks like i have to write it now. that’s how we have Are you there God, it’s me Margaret and the edge of 17 (the ‘98 and ‘16 iterations), all these stories written by Adults! that make us all sigh in relief and laugh and cry and aaahhh
fiction is fiction, idek what anti-ship means, let people be freaks in peace, fandom spaces are created to have fun in, let’s pls have Fun!!! explore and write and draw and fantasize whatever your heart desires bc there can be no right or wrong, it is just discovery.
if you feel kinship with characters and it feels natural to extend yourself to them, to take them and make them your own, amazing, gorgeous, beautiful. play dress up with them in all the ways you can, do whatever You Want!!
#i really surprised myself w how much i wanted to say here but#i started writing and just couldn’t stop#byler#marauders#spicy byler#fandom#fandom discourse#fandom discussion#fanfiction#byler fanfic#marauders fanfiction#stranger things#speaking my truth#bc i can’t believe what i see sometimes#gritting my teeth as i post this#i just feel like this message needs to be reiterated#i know there are a lot of young people in this fandom and i find this censored attitude so harmful#longtallglasses

The Archive is now officially open!
Hello everyone! Sorry it took a little longer than expected. I got myself distracted (like I usually do).
The concept for the Arendelle Archives came into fruition in 2021 when friends @saiten-gefroren and FrozenHeart began working on the Frozen timeline study “Annals of Frozen”. The project was released to the fandom in July, 2021 and quickly gained traction among other fans who were already invested in exploring and discussing the lore of the franchise.
Around the same time, @virtual-winter published his 3-part series “An Odyssey Through Frozen Geography" which explored the real-world inspirations behind the world of Frozen, which perfectly fits the theme of the "Archive". Together with “Annals of Frozen”, these two projects acted as the catalyst works that would bring a group of fans together on a common platform under a common goal and banner, starting off as a Discord-server in April 2022 and now, finally, stepping into the world of Tumblr!
So, what is Arendelle Archives?
As for the concept itself, we imagine that the Arendelle Archives, aka the Royal Arendelle Archives, was a 19th century national institution of Arendelle tasked with the preservation and documentation of natural, historical and geographical records. Though founded by the royal family (by Agnarr and Iduna undoubtedly, not that Runeard guy), it was a neutral agency without affiliations with any political or commercial power.
Moving on to the 21st century, we have established ourselves as a group of ordinary but dedicated Frozen fans with varying backgrounds and areas of “expertise” who are on a mission to restore the records that were once under the supervision of the Royal Arendelle Archives, in line with the same values that defined the "native" institution.
As spiritual descendants of the original Arendelle Archives staff, we aim to collect as much information as possible centered around Arendelle and its neighboring lands with the help of official material like the movies, books, comics, etc. (the “facts” of the Frozenverse if you will), then compile and summarize these facts by studying the source material and by making logical deductions without the interference of personal preferences or prejudices — It is a “science” for our beloved fictional world, not a “fiction” with personal attachments riddled through the work.
What have we done so far?
For the past two years, our focus has been set on collecting and presenting the history, geography and lore of Arendelle and the rest of the Frozen world. Entering 2024, our work has resulted in nearly a dozen completed or ongoing “in-house” fan-projects as well as affiliated works by creators tied to the Archive:
Seek the truth – Unraveling Frozen II (1st and 2nd edition) by Yumeka (2020)
Annals of Frozen (1st and 2nd edition) by Saiten and FrozenHeart (2021-2022)
An Odyssey Through Frozen Geography by Virtual Winter (2021-2023)
The Frozenverse – Media, books, comics and more! by Virtual Winter
The Flora and Fauna of Frozen by Virtual Winter (2022)
Reproducing Iduna’s map from Frozen II by Virtual Winter (2023)
Every appearance of Hans’ ship by Virtual Winter (2023)
Frozen Canon Talk! (1st to 4th edition) by Great Queen Anna (2021-2023)
Anna and Elsa’s lost family members by Virtual Winter (2023)
(links to the individual works will be added later)
What's next?
We are always “on the hunt” for like-minded fans with similar fan-projects in their portfolio. Just in time for Christmas of 2023, such an encounter resulted in the impressive video project “Frozen: The History of Arendelle”, a timeline study very much in tune with “Annals of Frozen”, created by Youtuber Geekritique in collaboration with us.
Just around the corner also lies the creation of a detailed Arendelle family tree based on the findings in “Anna and Elsa’s lost family members”.
After this? Only Ahtohallan knows… But with more Frozen content on the horizon, our work as archivists and record keepers will surely not be over any time soon and updates and refreshes of past works will definitely be coming in the near future!
Arendelle Archives on Tumblr
The decision to finally start this Tumblr came in November 2023. From now on, we will use this platform as the base of our operation and republish our previous entries, now finally unified under a common “Archives” banner. It will also be the main platform for future projects as well as reblogs of Frozen fan projects from other sources.
All things considered, we hope that through our work, we will contribute to the Frozen fandom as a whole and allow for regular fans, artists, analysts, and fanfiction writers alike to get a clearer picture of the lore, trivia and backstory of the Frozen-series!
Welcome!
Virtual Winter, Saiten and the rest of the Archive team

This week’s writer spotlight feature is: fragilecapric0rn! @fragilecapric0rnn has written 22 fics in the Stranger Things fandom and 21 of them are in the Steddie tag!
@cheatghost recommends the following works by @fragilecapric0rnn:
It Might Be Worth It For Once
clown music at the disco
you can take the heart from your chest to use as a compass when you are lost
Catch Me (I'm Falling)
Anyway, It's About Old Friends
"Sen's body of work is like a truly love letter to the characters. No matter the universe, Steve and Eddie always feel authentic to themselves. Sen's love for classic rom-coms influences a lot of her writing and makes for really romantic, touching stories. It's an absolute delight to dive into a world crafted by this author!" -- @cheatghost
Below the cut, @fragilecapric0rnn answered some questions about their writing process and some of their recommended work!
Why do you write Steddie?
I think in May of 2022 I was bit by the same bug as everyone else. Before I started writing Steddie, I was on a 4-year fic writing hiatus, and it was like seeing those two interact on screen zapped my brain awake. The chemistry, the potential, the fact that one half of the ship got ripped away from us too soon. All of those components really did something to my brain and I decided I had to write them and I haven’t looked back since!
What’s your favorite trope to READ?
I love a idiots to lovers! These two really have the potential to fit that trope so well!
What’s your favorite trope to WRITE?
Second-chance at romance! If you’ve seen any of my fics, you know that I love and will take any chance to write 90s older steddie, haven’t spoken or seen each other in years, who re-meet and fall in love. It is so them, it is my favorite version of them. It’s the version of them that lives in my head!
What’s your favorite Steddie fic?
There are so many good ones to choose from, but I think I have to go with Show Me the Place Where He Inserted the Blade by the incomparable, the magnificently talented and outstanding Cheatghost. Lou, who I am very proud to call a friend, is one of the most talented people I know and I feel very lucky to have had them brought into my life via the Steddie brainrot.
Is there a trope you’re excited to explore in a future work but haven’t yet?
Is it lame if I say no? LOL. Honestly, I have written almost everything I have felt the need to explore with this pairing. A lot of my ideas moving forward are expansions/continuations of ideas that I already started or have posted before.
What is your writing process like?
Right now it’s at its most unstructured because I am rawdogging life without my ADHD meds for the first time in 7 years, which has been a whirlwind but I am managing. However, it usually depends on the fic I’m writing! For a lot of my longfic, I have a physical notebook that has an outline and major plot points I want to hit at certain times in my stories. Other times, for the shorter fics/one-shots, I just write them all in one go. It starts with a (usually silly) idea, and then I get possessed by the writing demons, and suddenly, I haven’t moved from my chair in 2 hours and I have four thousand words on my screen. I contain multitudes!
Do you have any writing quirks?
I am a victim of the: One word. One phrase. Lin breaks for emphasis. And I will be doing it until someone who is being paid real money to publish one of my original works tells me to knock it off!
Do you prefer posting when you’ve finished writing or on a schedule?
Again, asking if it’s bad if I say neither? When I first started posting fic again, I was very much writing it all and then posting it over the course of a few days. But now, I tend to write sporadically and post even more sporadically. And I prefer the latter! Fanfiction, and fandom in general, is a collaborative experience in its heart and soul. One of my favorite things about longfic is posting a chapter and seeing what people take away from it, because 9/10 it’ll be different then what the writer thinks they’re going to take away! And the chance to change and rework and let yourself be influenced by other fans of the ship is taken away when you write it all at once and post it all at once.
Which fic are you most proud of?
Anyway, It’s About Old Friends. Even in its unfinished form, it is my magnum opus. My white whale. I have done some of my best writing in it (chapter 2 MY BELOVED) and the fact that its so close to the end is both exciting and terrifying. It is a fic I wrote and continue to write for me, and the fact that other people are reading and enjoying it is a win!
How did you get the idea for It Might Be Worth It For Once?
HA! So, I was chatting with my friend Emily (JudasofSuburbia) about a potential Pornstar!Steve AU offhandedly back in the fall. Then, I got paired with them for a little fic exchange between friends, and it felt natural to take that one off little conversation and turn it into a fic for her. It was one of those fics that started out as a silly idea and then suddenly it’s been six hours and I wrote the whole thing in one go! After some polishing and editing, it became a Pornstar!AU with not as much smut as I expected. It was so fun to write, made even more fun as it was for a dear friend.
When writing Anyway, It's About Old Friends, what was something you didn’t expect?
I didn’t expect it to change and mold and morph in the way that it did. There is a version of this fic where they do hook-up earlier, there’s a version where they re-meet at gay club and not a wedding, there’s a version where Steve marries a Evie and Eddie is Raul. But, this version feels the most right. It’s a story about heartbreak, about finding love (in all it forms) in unexpected places, and it’s about found family most of all. All of that was stumbled on accidentally! My only intention was to write a Steddie-fied When Harry Met Sally fic, and accidentally flashed my heart and soul. Whoops!
What inspired clown music at the disco?
I used to be an opener at a coffee shop and there is something so disorienting and mind altering about having disco music blasting on the speakers at 4am. But, it was in one of those moments, where I was so tired I was nauseous, that the fic idea came to me! I had already been thinking of writing as my first fic, Steve and Eddie accidentally have a Devil’s Sacrament moment at the gay bar, but the line “But it’s Disco Night”, came to me at the ungodly hour of 4 in the morning. What a time!
What was your favorite part to write from you can take the heart from your chest to use as a compass when you are lost?
The Never Have I Ever Scene! It was the first time I wrote the entire party in one scene and it’s chaotic and a little messy but it was one of my favorite parts of the fic. It also made me realize how much I love writing ensemble scenes! Just everyone trying to talk over each other, chaos in its best form.
How do/did you feel writing Catch Me (I'm Falling)?
I wrote this fic in the span of like almost 3 weeks? I was sick and burnt out for most of the time I was writing it, but it was almost a compulsion. I had the idea and I just HAD to write it. No outline, just vibes and Steve Harrington in a cheerleading uniform! I took it down for a while because I was turning it into something else, but then had a change of heart and put it back up. And part of me is glad that I took it down for a moment because people love to be weird about the feminizing Steve’s character, and even though I was writing him as a cheerleader, I tried really hard to keep him earnestly himself, and in character.
What was the most difficult part of writing Anyway, It's About Old Friends?
Writing about San Francisco while being the most homesick I have ever been in my life. Also writing Eddie in those first few chapters as an asshole but not unlikable. I didn’t want him to be “fine” (because no one is fine in this universe, especially not in the beginning) but I also didn’t want him to do or say anything too bad. I think I got a handle on it pretty well.
Do you have a favorite scene and/or line from any of your fics?
In Faces Freedom With A Little Fear, the first scene in the hospital with Steve’s sister. She storms in, threatens federal agents, all for her brother. JJ Harrington you will always be famous!
Do you have any upcoming projects or fics you’d like to share/promote?
Just my current WIPs! Anyway It’s About Old Friends; the When Harry Met Sally AU of my dreams. Hand on My Stupid Heart; the modern AU, where the UD exists but everyone has iPhones and Steve deals with his bisexuality!
Outside of these questions, Is there anything YOU would like to add?
Shout out to my boys! Kkpwnall, judasofsuburbia, figthefruitfaeth, gideoncharov, cheatghost, fastcardotmp3, snowangeldotmp3 you guys rule and they’re all so talented!!!! Thank you to whoever nominated me! I feel the love and give it back to you tenfold!!!!!!

dear elain lover 🌹💭🍰,
1. what about elain’s character do you love?
2. what scene of the seer’s is your favourite?
3. what is your top theory for the quiet dreamer’s upcoming book?
4. anything else you’d like to say about the lovely fawn?
Hi Anon 🫶
I have seen sm replies to these, and I love all of them.
There are so many aspects of Elain’s character I love. From how different she is to your typical fantasy fmc too her entire aesthetic. Elain for me is healing, she’s just a girl making the most of her life despite what she went through. Elain still managed to find joy and friends she enjoys spending time with doing fun hobbies such as baking as well as having a unique trait of gardening which is something I have never come across in Fantasy. Idk, Elain is for the girls. She embodies girlhood for me. There’s something about her character that stuck with 14 year old me to now. I think I love her more and feel protective over her since Elain is often misunderstood, underestimated and looked over by the fandom bcs she’s so feminine. Which I think more “girly” girls in real life can relate too. 2. I love so many of her scenes. I’ll give you the one that made me forgive her for the way she was in ACOTAR, “We BOTH failed Feyre” - Elain in acomaf. Her acknowledgment made me begin to like her. Tbh I don’t think there’s a single scene that made me love her - it was the small moments added up together such as Elain being the only one to buy Nesta a solstice/B day gift, Elain accepting feyre so warmly everytime her sister came back, buying the twins gifts, telling her sisters she isn’t a doll to be coddled, “find me when you wish to begin”, “the world needs more gardens”, the way she grabbed onto Briar and saved her. These little scenes of Elain really show how much of a beautiful, brave and caring character she is.
3. My top theory: Ultimately, its Elain reviving the prison into what it once was. Each sister has conquered a mountain, its time for Elain and her Prison. My other favourite theory even though its completely crack - Elain can shapeshift.
4. I can’t wait for Elains book. I already know its going to be my favourite, there’s so much mystery around Elain, I can’t wait for it to all unravel. Im also interested to see how Mass will explore Elains power, the gift of sight can go many ways and through Elain we may just see foreshadowing for her other series/worlds 👀 or the history pre-ACOTAR.

I know trying to get genderwoo out of fandom can feel like rolling a boulder up a hill sometimes, but I genuinely do think things are starting to shift! At last!
I'm in a fandom that was so terminally brainrotted by kweer theory I almost never engaged directly. But I still hang out in those spaces and keep an eye on how things are progressing. I view it as a good canary in the coalmine, for wider fandom attitudes. If things can shift there, change will be a-comin' elsewhere.
I've always thought this stuff would start to revert when it reached a saturation point and became boring, in conjunction with becoming uncool in the outside world. The fics that once felt so boundary-pushing will become generic and get less views, and people will go looking for the next exciting thing. And then mockery of twans will start to creep into fandom spaces, especially as Gen Alpha comes of age. When it becomes cringe to be non-binary is when the fics / art work will really start to dry up and we'll know it's dead. There will be a few die-hards still hanging on, but they'll be the people who took it too far and transitioned in real life, so feel too invested to let go. Everyone else will quietly drop the fad and move onto something else.
(I actually think het-fic is overdue for a comeback. They can only suppress themselves so long. I'm already starting to notice a trend of people gender-swapping gay ships to essentially make them het, but not in a trans way. Just straight up "what if one of them was a girl?" This has really taken off over the past year, and people aren't getting crucified for it the way they would have been, as recently as 2022. Another sign the winds of change are blowing. But yes, anyway, my point is classic het fic is making a comeback, and I couldn't be happier. The more people jump off the Tumblr-brainrotted bandwagon of thinking they have to be "gay" to be Good People™️, the sooner normality will return to gay fandom. I very much view the above as a transitional phase these writers are going through while they explore if it might be "okay" to write het fic after all. They're testing the waters. All we need is for some big fandom to provide a het ship they can latch onto, and the Big Name Fans will jump ship to write for it and set the trend. A Twilight for the animation nerds. The stage is set for it. All we need is for someone to come along with the right thing and strike gold.)
But back to my canary in the coalmine fandom. I won't name it, but like I said, this is an extremely immature fandom, which went hard on genderwoo. But I'm starting to notice signs of change. Even there! There is a confessions blog in the fandom, run by some pretty cringe true believers, and I like to use it as a gauge of how things are going. Lately I've noticed a real drop-off in interest in trans-related posts. The irritating MOGAI headcanons fans would once have lapped up will now receive 20 - 30 notes per post - in contrast to posts that are just funny, ship, or character-focused, which tend to get 60 - 100 notes. The same with posts which try to critique the show's handling of trans. Those barely scrape thirty notes anymore. People are clearly still around and watching for good fan content, because they spring to life when it appears, but they're not even wasting their time virtue-signalling with the twans stuff. It's an observable pattern. There is less and less engagement. Even here on Tumblr, even in a fandom that was once all in on the woo. It's dying off.
I'm curious if this is observable in other fandoms too. I suspect it is. In my mind, the trajectory of all this ending looks like:
silent majority becomes put off by it and stops engaging ➡️ interest drops and production of fanworks featuring trans drops accordingly ➡️ the wider mockery of the TQ cult begins to make its way to fandom spaces ➡️ it becomes outright cringe to produce this content ➡️ it begins to disappear and be deleted, with creators either name-changing to start over entirely, or claiming they just want to delete stuff they made when they were younger and don't feel is up to their current standards (or some other polite excuse for purging) ➡️ het fic experiences a resurgence and becomes the majority again, and most fans memory hole this entire era of TQ madness ➡️ as a conservative backlash reduces the amount of actual homosexual representation in media, and the larpers lose interest, gay and lesbian fandom spaces slowly shift back to something more like where we were in the early 2000s.
I really think it's starting to happen.
I really hope you’re right!! And I think you probably are.
I’ve always thought too that right now, we’re just seeing a trend in action. It’s almost definitely a result of the “tumblr model”.
It started out with tolerance for gay people, then glorification in the form of “omg my gay babies, look at me writing so much fic about gay boys, they’re just so cute and perfect!”. Then the appropriation comes in with the straight girls saying “actually I’M a gay boy!”. Then fanaticism with the craziness of gender ideology, and intolerance with “cis gays (actual homosexuals) are so awful and transphobic, I hate them!”. In my opinion, we’re currently in a combination stage of those last two both in and outside of fandom. And I think this model is missing a stage, since we haven’t quite gotten there yet. That stage would probably be something like “disinterest”, which is when the fanatics completely lose interest in the thing they glorified and appropriated. And like you said, that’s already happening.
So much of the gender stuff in fandom seems to be people trying to be as outrageous and Revolutionary as possible. It’s all a big performance of “fuck you, mom! I’m different!”. That’s how the glorification of gay relationships started in fandom! It was a dirty little secret for these straight fans.
Now, the way they’re “revolutionary” is just by making gay ships straight. That’s going to have to get old eventually, and the only further step I can see is to just go over to actual het relationships and claim it’s some sort of unique rebellion. I can see it now: “I’ve always wanted to be a fan of straight ships but I was made to feel so ashamed of it! I know it’s not very popular but I’m going to be brave and special and declare my love for straight ships in the homonormative fanspace!”.
And I agree, I think that’s a really good thing. PLEASE, go take the het shit to actual het ships!! I am so tired of seeing various forms of “straightening out” gay ships.
The thing that scares me is knowing that however the fall of gender ideology happens…it’s going to take LGB acceptance down too because of how successful the TQ+ have been at forcing an association with us. There’s going to be conservative backlash, and while all the straight Kweers are going to wash out the hair dye, take the pronouns out of their bio, and enjoy their straight marriages…LGB people are going to be left receiving all of the blame for the mess those straight Kweers created. The silver lining is that at least LGBs will once again be able to create our own spaces, on and offline, without straight people trying to overtake them.
Anyway, I completely agree with what you’re saying and I think it’s a pretty accurate prediction of how things might play out. Being Kweer is a trend, and like all trends it will die. I’m just not looking forward to the mess LGB people will be left with.

“Into the White” (Part 1/?)
Fandom: Saw franchise
Rating: PG-13 (for this part?)
Characters/Pairings: Mark Hoffman, Eleanor Bonneville (very mild Mark x Eleanor eventually, but I promise it will make sense), Brad, Ryan, mentions of Lawrence Gordon, John Kramer, Jill Tuck, and (a very dead) Adam Faulkner-Stanheight (or Radford or whatever his last name actually is)
Tags/Warnings: Obvious mentions of torture and/or murder, there’s a brief choking moment, Eleanor being a true crime girly, language, this eventually turns into a feedist thing fyi
Summary: Eleanor has been using her classmates, Brad and Ryan, to dig deeper into her Jigsaw fangirl explorations. What she discovers is unexpected.
Author’s Notes: Wrote this in a morning, “edited” over afternoon martinis. Any unchecked errors will be fixed later. Thanks to my bud on here for fostering this idea. It’s borderline crack.
New Jersey, 2008
Gnashing at his bubblegum with unease, Ryan held open the door for Brad as he trailed out of the cellar behind him. Where, in prior months, they may have descended into the subterranean matrix through the main hallways of the house, they now had to practice better discretion due to the threat of discovery by either the authorities or Dr. Gordon.
Dr. Gordon would have been worse for a few choice reasons, but that was a whole headache on its own.
“How long until he starts getting suspicious about, well, you know, Hoffman?” Brad kicked a sizeable pebble out of his path as he inquired. “He’s gonna know eventually. You know, ‘cause he’s not dead. And probably won’t be for a while.”
“He won’t know if he never checks on him himself. That’s our job.” Ryan clamped a reassuring palm to Brad’s back, loving and
annoyed, though he didn’t know how much he bought his own words.
“Someone’s gonna find all those pizza boxes.”
“Then we clean them up and chuck ‘em out during the next drop off.”
“Fucking 10th Street Pizza.”
They walked a little while in silence, minds clouded with a lot of to-do’s and what if’s overshadowing the fact that they were likely late for some class or other.
As if a psychic link had sparked between their clouded minds, they turned to each other.
“Eleanor is gonna come snooping around here eventually,” Brad sighed.
“She’s got, like, dozens of other Kramer properties to dig around before she gets here. Hell, she’s been gutting Jill Tuck’s farm out by the river all week.”
“She’s so fucking weird.”
“I know. But maybe we just don’t tell her about this house in particular.” Ryan worked the black raincoat off as he spoke, trying to slip out of his “uniform” like an unwanted, limp skin. Wearing apprentice garb outside of “office hours” made him feel sick. It was the same way he never wanted to look at beige coveralls ever again.
“This house is probably public record as being both Kramer’s place and also Hoffman’s address. She’s gonna find it… And… I may have already told her.” Brad gritted his teeth, waiting for a thwack to the back of his head. He hated when Ryan did that.
Instead, Ryan just grunted and pressed his fingers tightly to his eyelids. “Then we better hope she doesn’t find him.”
——
Girls had to have their hobbies, especially ones with diligent course schedules and impressive extracurriculars. Beta Club and Scholar’s Forum paid off in high school—undergrad was just a repeat. It all looked good on paper. It would look even better on job or internship applications.
To Eleanor it was a personal point of pride; her repertoire looked shiny and vibrant and diverse in her mental curio cabinet. There was something to be said about putting in hours at medical school during the day and embracing, well, “urban exploring” at night and on the weekends.
Brad and Ryan were real ones for slipping her information on Jigsaw “memorabilia” spots throughout the city—even if it had started by Brad blurting something unintentionally one day and Ryan less-than-willingly going along with it.
But they were heroes—stars even—in Eleanor’s eyes. She had developed a deep interest in the Jigsaw killings in high school (“Games,” people would reiterate, “Games because Jigsaw is only putting people in situations. Whether they die is up to fate and wits.”), and by the time she had made it into the state university, Brad and Ryan had already been oversaturated in the media for the public trap they had endured.
They also happened to be in their senior year at the same school. There was no chance of escaping Eleanor’s prying.
Which was how she currently ended up at the back alley house on in the industrial district.
The expectations for the day were low, sure, but just the hunt was thrilling on its own. Breathing in the same chemical-and-dust-speckled air where so many had roamed and died? It was twisted, but the feeling burrowed a warm elation deep in the pit of Eleanor’s stomach.
Bypassing the main entrance and, instead, stumbling upon the lesser-known door Brad and Ryan had been using—amongst a build-up of trash and webs—Eleanor managed to slip past dark entryways that lead into a vaguely larger space. Greenish light permeated from somewhere, but it was black besides that.
She shone a flashlight from her right to her left, luckily spotting a light switch that sparked on rows of washed out and faint fluorescents.
Like a startled insect, a mass of black jerked in a corner, but didn’t speak (save for a deep grunt of sorts). Was that… a… somebody?
“The fuck are you?” a rasping voice finally decided to pipe up, echoing dully through what looked to be a spacious, defunct bathroom. Eleanor wandered closer, taking a stance beside it. Him.
It was starting to become clearer. Even through the slightly graying whiskers creeping from his beard and temples, and the longer, dark hair curling down by his ears, Eleanor could place that sweat and grime-worn face. It had stoically stared out past the TV screen during local press conferences and field report interviews. And then national joint press appearances with the FBI. It was ingrained in the splotchy pages of the city’s periodicals: images of a man, victoriously yet humbly carrying a young Corbett Denlon from the trenches of the dank and dangerous Gideon Meat Packing Plant, matted green plush toy trailing behind in her petite grasp. That same heroic mug would be printed in the pages some months later for diametrically opposing reasons: “20 Found Dead in Metropolitan Precinct Massacre… Possibly More”… “Multiple Left Dead in the Wake of New Jigsaw Game”… “Former Lieutenant Detective Connected to Jigsaw Murders”…
The city’s decorated, tragic hero was the killer all along—behind it all. And while it was the largest scandal—that being an understatement—of the whole city, he was gone, never to be found. Left for dead. Any and all known locations linked to John Kramer, Mark Hoffman, or even the Metro PD had been raided twice over. Nothing.
“You’re… Detective Hoffman?” It left Eleanor’s lips as more of a shaky statement than a question. Inhibitions tossed aside, she cupped his beard-prickly chin and tilted his head to inspect the glossy, mangled scar. Remnants of infection and improper stitching glared through in a raised pink line, jagged and inflamed.
“Not really a detective anymore, wouldn’t you gather?” Mark wasn’t keen on too much chitchat, but was more distracted and curious by how some random college-aged woman would be able to identify him so quickly. Especially with how out of sorts he must have looked, sealed away in the darkness and must of some unknown death trap hideout. (Or, what once was.)
“How are you still alive? How long have you been here?” She pushed on, absently letting her bold hand wander down his thick neck, and to his shoulder.
“I should be asking you some questions,” he shot back, “like how you found this place.”
Eleanor exhaled harshly. “I feel like I shouldn’t say, but I honestly don’t know what lying to you would do. I mean, look at you. You’re already stuck here.”
“Thankssssss.”
“I could tell you that any properties that John Kramer once owned have all been made public, though left abandoned. That is true. But—”
“But?”
“Maybe I got a couple of friends from school that gave me a head’s up.” Eleanor’s grasp snaked down the length of chain keeping Mark in place, looking for any wear and rust.
“Let me guess, curly brown hair and a tall blonde? Fucking dickheads.”
“Well without those dickheads I wouldn’t have found you. I was just looking for… This actually!” Zapped to another plain of existence, thoughts of anything else completely left behind, Eleanor fervently crawled closer to the pipe Mark was chained to, anxiously grasping for something metallic.
Her eyes drifted up, with some remorse, to a skeleton clothed in a white shirt, its smears of blood turning brown and black from the passage of time. By its rotted hand was the item that had caught her attention: a thin and rusted hacksaw, dented up and broken in the middle.
“I never thought I’d be holding this… Let alone find it. Like, can you even? No one else has found this?”
Mark had to roll his eyes. The girl was late to the party, regurgitating all the exposition he had already gone through. But again, how would she have known anything?
“Say ‘Hi’ to Adam,” Mark grunted, “and his completely useless saw.”
“Where’s the other one?” Eleanor urged.
“What? How did you know—? Ugh. Gordon threw it down the hallway, just outside the door.” The replay of that very moment, almost a year prior, was starting to boil Mark’s blood. He was faced with it, cursed with it, rewinding behind his eyes almost everyday.
“I gotta remember to grab it before we go.” Eleanor tucked the broken hacksaw into her satchel, eyes hungry towards the heavy sliding door.
“We?” Mark was drowning in the sudden onslaught of ridiculousness this college girl had trailed in with. It was a lot. “Wait now. Why are you here again?”
“Jigsaw. I’m… well, uh, I’m a fan.”
He could make out her cartoonish flush in the darkness and sickly strays of light.
“A fan?” That was rich. The files in Mark’s memories conjured up snippets of John criticizing every little adjustment he made on traps, explaining why smokers and rapists were on level playing fields when it came to “not cherishing life”… It was all very questionable.
“Yeah. Well. Not just of John Kramer, but like, the whole thing. All of it. All of you.” Her mouth twisted with a tinge of embarrassment at the admission.
“The fuck?”
“You know how some deranged losers are really wet for true crime? Like girls who have boners for Ted Bundy or whatever? It’s like that… but, you know… it’s you… Uh, ah, not the boner part. I mean, not to say—”
“You’re not a deranged loser?” Mark interrupted, feeling a chuckle come on for the first time in a good while.
“I didn’t say I wasn’t.” Her uncertain grin matched his own tired one. “Anyways, let’s get you out of here.”
“Get me out? With what?” Mark’s features resorted back to their natural cynical pout.
“Don’t worry, I have everything. I wasn’t sure what I was going to have to take apart to steal whatever was left.” She giddily waggled her fingers as she sorted through her bag for tools.
Mark could bargain that someone, somewhere, for some undeserved reason, had sent him an angel. He just wasn’t expecting said angel to be so unhinged.

My thoughts on shipping
I have previously been silently exploring BTS ships and decided to put some of my thoughts on “paper”.
Now, I have been aware of the toxicities of certain BTS shipper fandoms and how messy shipping has been for groups that pre-date BTS such as One direction and Fifth Harmony. I have personally never been much of a shipper before BTS and naturally discovering my ship’s bond and starting to appreciate it. It always baffles me how shipping seems to mean different things to different people or groups of shippers. This is heard often but shipping should be something done for fun and I won’t say I hate that logic or that I 100% agree with it because I personally think its okay if you have a slight inkling your favorite pair may be dating/more than what they say they are and you try looking at it a bit more seriously. I think it’s human nature to be inquisitive and curious. However, like everything, there needs to be a limit and I think that’s a huge problem not only in shipping culture but stan culture in general. There’s been so many times that I have seen jokes or otherwise harmless discourses become a bigger deal than they were ever meant to be.
To me shipping is and always would be about observation, (rational) speculation and possibilities. I am never going to fight with anyone to prove my ship is real in a romantic way because to be frank I genuinely do not know. None of us know and that’s okay. I like discussing the possibility of ships (mainly my ship) being real (this always irks me to say cause every ship is real but anyway) and sometimes even theorize things based on that assumption. This is getting a bit messy because I have so much I want to say but I have no structure to it, bare with me.
Basically, what I am trying to say is, I think shipping is okay within limits. Once again, its all about observations and all of us are only human and can’t help but pick up on things from time to time and who knows maybe your hunch might actually mean something. So I never see any shippers or ship dynamic as a competition. I even seek out analysis, theories and videos of other ships because I love to see the different dynamics and how differently we all think and how things can look solely based on one’s perspective. Despite how frustrating it gets, I find shipping culture in itself very interesting. The way the same things can be interpreted in so many ways, seeing how differently people think from me and in many cases how other’s thoughts challenge my perspective and opinions.
The type of shipping I don’t enjoy is the type that:
makes it a competition of who is the closest or which bond is the best.
is already CONVINCED and 100% without a doubt BELIEVES that the ship they enjoy is the “real” one because like I said before none of us know for sure. It gets even worse because this subset of people speak about their theories/analysis/opinions as if its a fact known by many and some of us just need to get with the program.
degrade other members for ships. this is an instant red flag for me and if I’m being honest, many shippers aren’t as forward with the hate they have toward the member that “threatens” their ship. I have seen many shippers say the vilest things or agree with the rudest asks about some of the boys but at the end say “but I love him though” like…do you? do you really?—
push theories and delusions into the boy’s spaces to get confirmation…side eye. This is one of the worst things to me honestly. Shipping is meant to be enjoyed within fandom spaces and no matter how real you think your ship is, there is absolutely no reason to try to bring it to the boy’s attention that you apparently know what they are. Please do not make weird, inappropriate or suggestive comments about ships on their welives, do not DM them about it, do not DM or bug their family, friends and colleagues about it. PLEASE JUST BE NORMAL!!! If a ship is in fact real, they have their reasons for not being public about it and you as a fan of the group and especially as someone who enjoys the pair should be respectful of that. Sure it’s fine to talk about the duos on weverse or tag the boys in cute edits because I’m sure they like that their friendships are appreciated but please be cautious when pushing it to them through a romantic lens.
I think this takes away a lot of the fun of shipping and these subsets of shippers along with others I may have missed out here are the reason that the fandom tries to push out shippers for the most part. I always joke about many non toxic shippers getting thrown into it when all some of us really do is cry and gush about our ship TT its such a shame. But its understandable since the toxic shippers make up a large, VERY LOUD subset of the fandom and with the track record of shipping among groups, I frankly wish a lot of you weren’t around either.
((a lot more below the cut))
My Approach
To me, showing love and appreciation for the very REAL bond that we see is always going to be essential and the basis of everything I do as a shipper. And I am not talking about any theories or analysis of what we’re shown but taking in and appreciating what the boys say and the many ways they show love to each other.
No matter who you ship this is a very easy task to accomplish because the tannies are so loving and every single pair or trio has a special bond that is intriguing to explore. I have learnt so much in the few years I’ve been an ARMY, not only from my ship but from almost every ship and just the tannies on a whole. They’ve taught me a lot about friendship and help me understand the type of relationships I should aim to have and the type of person I want to be for others. These lessons and small appreciations are what I’ve anchored myself to so that I don’t stray too much from this original plot and even if I do, it’s very easy to find my way back.
That being said, I have acknowledged that I can be very delusional. I refuse to believe any of my theories or the theories that any shipper presents to me as 100% fact, no matter how convincing they might sound. I have accepted that everything I theorize about could be 1000% wrong and very very far from what is true and I’m fine with that thought. It’s what allows me to think up far fetch little theories or blip off into these delusional mind bubbles where my ship is real. It’s also why I can get out of my head and acknowledge the fact that it’s likely that no ship in BTS are romantic [ref to My unpopular(?) shipping opinions and this ask]. All of it is because I leave room for deniability.
I’ve expressed this here before but it is very much baffling to me how so many shippers believe with 100% certainty that the pair they like are actually dating and are willing to go to war over it. Y’all are way better than me because I, personally, refuse to look like a fool on the world wide web. Don’t get me wrong, I would definitely defend the tannies from the “not friends anymore” or “fanservice” allegations but I am not going out of my way to fight with delusional people about 2 Korean men (who I don’t know personally😭) being sexually or romantically involved. Y’all can keep that!
Why I don’t believe the believers
Okay now I’ll try to move on and talk about why some shipper discourses or theories don’t hold up to me and why its quite insane and sort of foolish to believe a ship exists in a romantic light 100% based solely on them. The short answer of this is CONTEXT.
Forming opinions and arguments (I am not saying shipping should be an argument but since many shippers treat it like one, I’m addressing it as such for now) about a topic always requires a massive amount of context and a foundation of already factual information to be built from to sound even remotely plausible and valid. That’s why I mentioned before that a lot of this shipping business is speculation and opinions and frankly some of the speculation/opinions I see from shippers just don’t make sense to me. This is all because with BTS and any real person whose life we only see a fraction of, we lack a lot of context and for that reason building a solid argument from a 5 second clip of their life is difficult because we as outsiders are the ones who fill in the blanks. That’s why there usually isn’t any solid or shared opinion on what certain things said or done by the guys mean because we all have different experiences and biases that reflect in the way we see and interpret people’s actions.
Okay, I am going to go into a bit more detail about what I mean and what type of context I am referring to when I say this: (this is where it may get even messier, stay with me)
1// Situational context- This is more for the shippers that breakdown specific moments and (over)analyze them. Personally, I am a big picture person so whilst there may be particular moments that I see as a moment for or against a particular ship being more than friends, most times one clip or period of time doesn’t affect the way I view a ship. I think its drastic to constantly be changing your opinions based on every clip you see or changing it because a ship hasn’t publicly interacted in a while. Despite all of this, there are many things I keep in the back of my mind and maybe even form fun, (tbh) far-fetched theories on but for the most part it doesn’t change much for me. The reason why is because from moment to moment, clip to clip there is so much context that we don’t have about what’s happening in that one moment. Like did x have a bad morning? did he just receive bad/good news? is he looking forward to or dreading what he needs to do after this? is x going through something personally right now? did x and y have a falling out/misunderstanding? is x looking at y or is he just zoned out?
Okay this is going overboard and some of these may sound quite ridiculous but these are some of the millions of things that give context to a situation and for that reason they’re all things that need to be taken into consideration when analyzing the boys. I won’t even lie, I was thinking about Taehyung and Jungkook (to a lesser extent) for these cause if I see someone calling Tae rude or saying Jungkook is jealous one more time I might lose it. I am not saying any of the above ever happened cause once again I don’t know but all I am saying is stating any opinion of yours of a vague moment as fact without even exploring one of the above or any other possible factors is never going to let me take you seriously. I am also not saying every shipper who talks about a moment needs to be able to tell me what x had for breakfast that morning but if you express your observation/opinion as the truth I expect you to be able to give me CONTEXT. It feels like I am going in circles, I told you it was getting messy.
There are moments that hold up quite well on their own and have sufficient context. In other words, some things don’t require much explanation to be seen as truth. I guess what I am trying to say is the amount of factual information you have should remain proportionate to the assumptions and opinions you form. Too many times people use tiny moments to come to huge conclusions and connect dots that make no sense being connected. And I think its fun to be a bit far-fetch and delusional but it becomes a huge issue when nonsensical theories are posted on the internet and pushed to other people who don’t understand how irrational those theories are. Hence, I often believe in freedom of thought more so than freedom of speech; not everything you think needs to be said, you can keep things to yourself or at the very least only share it with one person or two that you trust to understand your intent.
2// Cultural context- I will try not to stick to this for too long because I am not Korean, so I can add very little cultural context to any ship moment minus those I have been told about before. There are some things that the boys do or say that would probably have a different meaning to me vs someone who is aware of Korean culture. There are many times, none that I can pinpoint at this time, that I see a comment or post explaining a clip/moment with cultural context, which changed my view on that particular moment. Like I said, I am threading lightly here cause there is not much I can add to this conversation. I am adding this here to remind you that the moment that is a big deal to you may just be normal for Koreans shrugs. This one is even more difficult than the first because cultural context isn’t something you can just make assumptions about, its something you need to be exposed to to understand. A mere Google search may not even cut it to fully understand as an outsider.
Things like honorifics and politeness levels of speech or even specific translations need to be taken with a grain of salt. The bromance and skinship aspect of K-pop/Korean culture is also a huge part of shipping that may be new to people from different cultures. In many countries in the West, skinship between men isn’t something very normalized or in many cases even socially acceptable so the amount that BTS show physical affection to each other might be startling to many international fans when it’s something that’s more socially acceptable in Korea and normalized amongst their team.
“Holding hands, linking arms, and hugging amongst friends are acceptable ways to show closeness and comfort. So, don’t assume that every two persons holding hands in public are romantically involved! Conversely, public displays of affection by romantic couples are more toned down compared to in societies like, say, the US”. 4 Distinctly Korean Habits To Know Before Going To Korea (sejong.com.sg)
None of this is to say that certain types of skinship can’t mean more to any two members or to say we can’t find the interactions cute or endearing. It once again boils down to the confidence shippers have when using these moments as proof of their ship being the real deal.
3// Differing personalities, beliefs and relationship dynamics- All of these points bleed into each other and are interconnected in some way but I think this one is basically the backbone of all of the others. Despite having situational or even cultural context, its still difficult to draw any clear conclusions because EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT and any analysis or opinion will need to treat them as such—different people with different values, morals, beliefs, likes, priorities, dislikes, experiences and the lists goes on.
No matter how well the boys get on, they have continuously expressed how different all of them are as people. And because of that, no two ship can or should ever be viewed in the same lens. I think this “mistake” is something I see a lot in shipping: X and Y did this and X and Z didn’t hence XY>XZ, I honestly don’t think its that simple. In order to fully grasp a ship and its possibility of being real, you need to have a good idea of who the people you’re shipping are and what their likes, dislikes, values, priorities etc are.
Now this, like all these other points require a lot of assumptions to be made. Firstly, it assumes you interpret everything they say and do the way they meant it to come across, it assumes that their BTS persona is a good reflection of who they are as people OR that you have a good idea who they might be as people. I don’t know how to explain this one cause there are members that we as fans know as being a bit different on vs off camera and some of those differences are known to an extent but once again we’re dealing with a lot of assumptions so its tricky. Anyway, many shipper theories assume that we know how they’d react in various circumstances.
There are a few reasons I am bringing this up and I’ll mention it here to better explain myself. Like I said, I have been searching around at ship content just cause the more you fuck around the more you find out and I have been seeing people’s takes on shipping and forming opinions on them. At some point, I started feeling hypocritical cause of how my opinion may be different for particular ships and I concluded that this point was one of the reasons why. Let me explain-
I saw some people giving % probability scores for certain ships being romantic and the thought came into my head that Yoongi ships, I think they were specifically talking about yoonmin or sope, are not probable to me if we’re seriously thinking romantically. Even as someone who thinks Yoongi may be into men/women/both/none (girl honestly idk). The reason why i think this way is looking at Yoongi and what (I assume) his priorities and goals are in life. I mention in a previous post that I question the member’s willingness to take the risk that would come with being in a relationship with a bandmate and how I think that many of them don’t come across to me as being willing to. Yoongi is the epitome of that opinion for me. I mention this in the next point but dating someone within the same group as you will definitely be a big deal, it will be a PR/HR emergency if anything goes wrong and I don’t see Yoongi as the type of person to want to play around that and sacrifice his work for love whether he felt emotions or even trained himself to the point that feelings don’t develop in the first place. [I’ve said that I never want to date someone in the same field as me and after that, i haven’t found any of my colleagues attractive or as a romantic interest, even when I tried]
I think another example that works really well for this is Jimin and the way a lot of shipper’s interpret him compared to how I do. I think any ARMY or any one who keeps up with BTS for even 5 minutes, can see that Jimin is a very private person. Of all the members, he comes across to me as someone who is very cautious and particular(?) about the way he’s perceived. He’s very careful with his words and his actions. You can watch any video he’s in and see how much he thinks before he says something to the members (especially when it’s of a serious nature) or to ARMYs. A very easy example of this is how concerned he was in the FESTA 2022 video about how we may take what they said and almost pleading for the audience to just take them by their word (something that literally almost every person who watched that video DID NOT do but we move smh…). All of this to say, I can’t subscribe to theories that believe that Jimin is pointing out things between him and his secret partner or behaving risky with them in front of cameras and giggling about it. I can get into this more but I’ll digress.
I am not sure how these examples will come across but these are just some random examples I can think of where I think varying personalities might affect the way I see a ship. This is not me claiming any particular ship is over another or saying that any of these above points are true because my opinions are based on my specific perception of the different members and I am not claiming I know them best.
All in all, there is only so much (little) that we know of them, its difficult to know for certain what any of them would be like in a romantic relationship. However, it seems like many shippers tend to remove the bits of individuality we do see of each member whenever they look into ships which further makes things even more unrealistic and delusional sounding to me.
To add to this, many times shippers interpret things based on their idea of a relationship without really putting themselves in the member’s place. This is totally understandable considering what I mentioned before about us being the ones that fill in the blanks but it’s one of the reasons why we can’t take our theories 100% seriously all the time. At the end of the day, every single relationship is different and something that might be okay for the members in a relationship may not be okay with you or the way the members choose to deal with their relationship may not be how you think it should or would be dealt with. So once again, you can’t take your interpretation of things too seriously. If a ship is real, we aren’t and would never be privy to their private conversations regarding what is okay for them in THEIR relationship. We don’t know what their limits are or how they would choose to maneuver through their relationship on camera so our view of things will always be one-sided.
4// Knowing the gravity of the situation if any ship is real- This one is basically situational context but on a wider scope and might be the most serious of all of these, despite me putting it last on the list. I think a lot of people who ship members romantically do not even consider how serious a situation like that would be. For the most part, I don’t think this is a problem if we’re just having fun but I think people who seriously analyze things the boys do need to take it into consideration. We all are aware at least to some extent of the state of LGBTQ+ in South Korea. Korea is still a very conservative country and though members of the LGBTQ+ community are actively seeking change, things are not as progressive as one would hope.
Taking that into consideration, any two members of BTS— the biggest K-pop group in the world and one of South Korea’s representative brands— being aware that they have more than platonic feelings for each other would be a huge deal. There’s a lot to consider regarding the way the other member’s would approach it, the way the company would approach it and the way the two members themselves would want to deal with it: whether or not they decide to pursue it and if they do, how they go about doing that.
Any two members dating would serve a huge risk for not only those two members but the group as a whole and the other members individually. Aside from the risks of any of the members being queer, the fact that we as shippers aren’t opposed to the idea of two members dating and the fact that many ARMYs would also be open to it if it ever turned out to be the case DOES NOT take away from the fact that such a relationship may be seen as highly unprofessional and inappropriate. We know all the boys are friends who have grown up closely alongside each other and feelings developing is something that is possible but at the end of the day, they are coworkers working together as BTS and many people may not be able to look past that.
I think many shippers look at ships in a very isolated way. They remove the very real world that we live in and all the problems that would come along with a ship being real and opt to live in a world where their ship is real and everything around them is always sunshine and rainbows. And I get it, that’s way more fun but it is not realistic. I think its fine to have this outlook if you are shipping just for fun but that is a lot of the times not the case. Many of these shippers on YouTube, tumblr or X that seriously analyze these relationships tend to feed a very unrealistic, clouded world view to others that may also be very naïve thinking. This is why a lot of theories grow to become these huge nonsensical conspiracies that any rational person can deduce makes absolutely no sense in the real world. Let’s address some specifics:
Addressing some unrealistic shipperverse theories
Any “real” ship in BTS are not being careless with their relationship in front of cameras or when doing other work. All your theories about them kissing on/around cameras or going into changing rooms together during award shows and coming back dishevel will never hold up to me.
If a ship is involved romantically and the company is aware of it, there’s most likely only a small subset of people that would actually know. My guess of who would know is: some higher ups in the company, the members, a select few managers and maybe bodyguards, possibly trusted and long time members of the BTS team i.e. PDogg, Son Sungdeuk, Slow rabbit etc. and perhaps a trusted PR team to advice them on how to deal with things. Even this list feels a bit too extensive. Anyway I am making this point because I don’t get why shippers think that random hairstylists or camera directors or editors would be privy to such sensitive information. And this stands for any relationship really, it’s unlikely that ALL of their staff are even aware if any of the boys are in more “traditional” (heterosexual) relationships so why do some of you act like it’ll be an open secret if any of them are queer.
Theories about love triangles or stories saying a member left a member for another member are so crazy out of touch?? Any one pair realizing their feelings for each other and choosing to pursue it despite the risk it poses to them and to the team is unquestionably a huge deal and would need to be dealt with an immense degree of care. So its very hard to believe that the members are haphazardly messing around with each other, cheating, breaking up and just overall being messy about the whole thing.
I genuinely don’t get why you people think any pair in the group are being blatant and basically trying to out themselves to the public at this point in their career. It’s not far fetched to think that they would have or want some way to express themselves but I doubt it’s as blatant as shippers suggest. Honestly, if a couple does exist amongst the tannies I am not even confident it’s something the public may ever be made aware of…
Conclusion
All in all, I think shipping is something that can be really fun but needs to be done with a huge amount of care and respect. Making assumptions about the boys and being dead set on one particular possibility being the end game can be detrimental, not only to the boys but to you as well. Many shippers are very confident and secure about their ship being real romantically and will stop at nothing to prove their point. This is a very ridiculous approach because I would bet that a secret couple don’t want or need you to prove their realness, they also don’t need you to spread their message to the world and convert people to your side. It really should not be that serious. Shipping should be something that simmers instead of boiling over. Just enjoy what you enjoy without spreading hate and without seeking real life confirmation through the members or dispatch or their family.
With the tannies getting older, it’s important for all of us to have somewhat of an understanding that what we have imagined or want their life to be may just not be what is true. I would hate (though I have already seen it being in the future of some ships😞) to see the larry-fication of any of these ships where 10-15 years in the future, shippers are still making random connections even if the members are known to be married to other people and have 5 kids. With there being 21 unique pairings within the group, even if it turns out that one of them is “real” doesn’t that mean that the possibility of most of us being wrong is greater than us being right. And that is, if we ever find out…
This was always meant to be the first post on my blog but because of the shipper climate around the time I started writing it, I held back on posting it how I initially intended to. I decided to give it a bit of a revamp and edit it to fit with what I want my little blog here to be. I’ve been writing this for almost a year now and have enjoyed putting these thoughts together in a somewhat concise and comprehensible way. Even if you don’t agree with everything I said here, I hope the main point comes across i.e. no shipper knows better than the other, we’re all going based off our own perspective and rational and so we shouldn’t be 100% certain and we shouldn’t be fighting over or confidently pushing ideas that we are probably wrong about. I really don’t care who ships who (ship and let ship) but I certainly think shippers need to be more careful about the things they say and do in the name of ships.
Thank you for reading!💜

what i would personally want from another DR game
(note: not all at once, since some of these are Mutually Exclusive in fact ha)
realistically:
preferably not a Killing Game. this sounds like Blasphemy but DR was never "about" Killing Games. i'll accept it if it happens, but i'll be Very Skeptical. there's plenty to say about that universe and its themes without throwing another new 16 into the mix. leave that to the Fangans, as i think only Fans can produce something that feels fully "new" w/r/t Killing Games now
preferably uses mostly characters we already know with some great additions. a la UDG
could be serious or a spinoff. racing game, RPG, rhythm game, fighting game, game where we use the Kumas like Pokemon...
if a spinoff, would prefer it still has something of a Narrative to it where everyone's somewhat in character, even if it's silly. think Usami forcing Kamukura to participate in Dangan Kart and he does because he's Bored or some dumb shit like that. give me that Stupid Content
just...another game with Kodaka's involvement specifically. this is filed under "realistically" because Kodaka has recently stated he would like to do it, and that after v3, he was on break from Danganronpa, not Done With It 5ever. considering he still does Birthday Posts and constantly answers questions about DR, he is clearly quite attached still, but ultimately by his own admission it's up to Spikechun
non-realistically:
End of HPA/adjacent timeline. IF, Everyone Is Here UTDP/Summer Camp etc
as a corollary to the above, would prefer that it is not V3's timeline. and V3 is, in fact, a Separate Timeline/"setting reset" according to Kodaka. it is not a retcon/continuation of previous games. BUT: i think that world would be best explored in novels/manga via the Rantaro series Kodaka wanted to do. BUT: i think if it is explored, it will be in a game
further: would prefer an Everyone Is Here game. it would unite the fandom, from old-time fans to folks who came in mostly thru V3 and stick to it
however, of these personal wish fulfillment settings, i think the most realistic of them is an IF-like timeline, esp if released on the 15th or 20th anniversaries. what better way to Celebrate than with everyone from DR1 being alive
Kyoko game that's like Ace Attorney because i don't know it'd just be funny. can you imagine. can we use Komaru to channel Yui
i want a Mukuro game but that's not going to Happen
unless???
???:
female protagonist that lives. for real this time. could be a new one or not but the Universe Needs Balance. Komaru and Kaede need one more for their team!!!
a UDG-type game in that it Expands on an existing character who desperately needed it. this is under ??? because i imagine no one expected Toko to get her own game that transformed her from kind of a Joke Character into a Fully Fledged Baby. even Kodaka admits he didn't know what to do with her in the latter half of DR1, and she became one of the most Beloved Girls in the franchise in her game
Miu:
Miu
please Kodaka
give her the Arc she deserves
pls............
