I just spent hours googling about different cultures/ethnicities and their traditional clothing bcz I want 2 draw all my OC’s in them (in their cultures/ethnicities traditional garments I mean). If I get one (1) thing wrong I’m going to s c r e a m. 😭😭
I’m debating whether or not 2 add them holding a signature/traditional food. I really want 2 do it but I also don’t want to wade through the internet and Wikipedia again. ONE OF THE WIKIPEDIA’S I WAS LOOKING 4 A SPECIFIC TYPE OF HANFU ON WAS ONLY IN CHINESE, I SPENT SO LONG LOOKING 4 INFO ON THIS HANFU BTW, AND I JUST SAT THERE DEBATING WHETHER OR NOT I SHOULD GOOGLE TRANSLATE IT OR GIVE UP AND FIND A DIFFERENT HANFU STYLE. IM GOING INSANE

Some Chinese fashion styles
Disclaimer: The following styles and their definitions were observed by me and are not authoritative. I am only familiar with Hanfu and if I made mistakes and picked the wrong photo examples or fraud shops, please let me know. Also, this post focused on women's fashion because 1. I am not into men's fashion so I don't know much about them. 2. The algorithm also knew that so I don't really see them.
汉服/HĂ nfĂș
䌠统服鄰/ChuĂĄntǒng fĂșshĂŹ 䌠服/chuĂĄn fĂș
æž…æ±‰ć„ł/QÄ«ng hĂ n nǚ
æ——èŁ…/QĂ zhuāng
æ——èą/QĂpĂĄo
æ–°ć›œéŁŽ/XÄ«n guĂł fēngă€æ–°äžćŒ/XÄ«n zhƍngshĂŹ æ±‰ć…ƒçŽ /hĂ n yuĂĄnsĂč 茶è‰ș服/ChĂĄyĂŹ fĂș or 茶服/chĂĄ fĂș ć”èŁ…/TĂĄngzhuāng äžć±±èŁ…/Zhƍngshānzhuāng.
汉服/HĂ nfĂș
Tumblr media
The ethnic clothing of Han Chinese (not the Han Dynasty).
There was a prohibition of Han clothing and hair styles in Qing dynasty, i.e. the ć‰ƒć‘æ˜“æœ/TĂŹfā yĂŹfĂș qu Queue Ordinance, so modern hanfu is an on-going revivalist moment.
Modern hanfu are based on archeological evidences with minor twists to suit modern like, such as the type of fabric used and cut.
As a result, there are many types of garments and sub-styles. The figure above shows some examples.
While which style should be included and promoted is a constant debate, but in general, the cutout line is the Qing dynasty (however small accessories such as purses are alright).
䌠统服鄰/ChuĂĄntǒng fĂșshĂŹ 䌠服/chuĂĄn fĂș
No example because I am not sure who identified with this label.
The Chinese traditional clothing.
This either referred to historical clothing restorers (regardless of ethnicity) or people who promoted that the traditional clothing of Han people should be in the late Ming dynasty style, since "people should get up at where they had fallen".
They might be agreeable with the hanfu movement or not.
æž…æ±‰ć„ł/QÄ«ng hĂ n nǚ
Tumblr media
The clothing of women of Han Chinese in the Qing dynasty.
Since the Queue Ordinance wasn't that strictly enforced on Han women, the Han women clothing in the Qing dynasty had quickly absorbed Manchurian's elements while retaining the characteristic two-piece silhouette. (Manchurian women wore a one-piece robe.)
I believed it appeared around 2019 when the styles of hanfu had moved to fully embroidered surface to a more tone down brocade or weaved patterns.
æ——èŁ…/QĂ zhuāng
Tumblr media
The ethnic clothing of Man people (Manchurian).
The women's clothing are generally in round collar opened on the left (youren) with straight sleeves.
The most basic item is a èĄŹèĄŁ/chĂšnyÄ«, which doesn't have vents.
However, the most common item I have seen on the street is a æ°…èĄŁ/chǎng yÄ« (probably rented), which should be worn on top of èĄŹèĄŁ, since they have side vents.
They usually have no standing-up collar but in some cases a fake collar could be worn.
On top of changyi they could wear a é©Źè€‚/mǎguĂ ă€ćŽè‚©/kǎnjiānă€è€‚èŁ„/guĂ  jiǎn.
æ——èą/QĂpĂĄo
Tumblr media
The Chinese clothing of women originated from the Minguo era, known in English as qipao or cheongsam.
The male equivalent is é•żèĄ«/chĂĄngshān.
Currently in style is the retro-cut, while uses the traditional flat cut (no shoulder seam) instead of the more body-hugging modern draping style.
There are also many variations and cuts, but the overall silhouette is similar.
æ–°ć›œéŁŽ/XÄ«n guĂł fēngă€æ–°äžćŒ/xÄ«n zhƍngshĂŹ
Tumblr media
Innovative clothing that was inspired by Chinese traditional aesthetic.
It is an umbrella term.
æ±‰ć…ƒçŽ /hĂ n yuĂĄnsĂč refers to clothing inspired by hanfu specifically, while xinguofeng could be inspired by qipao and other ethnic clothing. In addition, hanyuansu is a term more familair to hanfu-ers, so the target audience is slightly different between hanyuansu and xinguofeng.
Tumblr media
茶è‰ș服/ChĂĄyĂŹ fĂș or 茶服/chĂĄ fĂș,i.e tea dress, which aimed to convey a zen and rustic aesthetic could also be considered a sub-style. They are often worn by retirees, artists or workers in tea shops, calligraphy shops, Chinese spas, Chinese traditional medicine clinics etc.
Tumblr media
The older "Chinese style" generally refers to ć”èŁ…/TĂĄngzhuāng and äžć±±èŁ…/Zhƍngshānzhuāng.
Tangzhuang (Tang Suit) was a men suit characterized with a mandarin collar with a row of ç›˜æ‰Ł/pĂĄn kĂČu frogs in the middle. There are two pockets at the bottom front of the suit. It was a well-known looked worldwide due to the 2001 APEC summit. However, other clothes resembled a é©Źè€‚/mǎguĂ  could also be called a tangzhuang.
Zhongshanzhuang was designed and named after Sun Yat-sen but was often known in English as the Mao Suit. Mao Suit was characterised with a 慳闹鱆/GuānmĂ©n lǐng“closed-door collar", but also known as Mao collar in English) with a row of round buttons. There are four pockets at the front of the suit.
Tumblr media
侭捎lolita/Zhƍnghuá lolita
Tumblr media
A sub-style of the lolita fashion inspired by cheongsam/qipao, hanfu or other Chinese artistic elements.
The same item could appeared in different styles, but with different cut and accessories. The following examples showed a mamianqun used in different styles.

Hi everyone! I'm glad to see that this post was useful. I've updated the guide with some new information. Shoutout to @biichama for letting me know about the new trailer, which released the new names of the other countries in Miraland! :)
A (possibly) helpful guide to the Nikki-verse for Infinity Nikki Players
Although it’s not at all necessary to know the lore of the previous games (Love Nikki, Shining Nikki), here is some info that you might benefit from if you’re joining the fandom with Infinity Nikki!
❄General Info:
Love Nikki, Shining Nikki, and Infinity Nikki are all stand-alone games with self-contained stories, but they have some commonalities that I will get into later.
Love Nikki has a 2D art style, and is where many of us "veteran" players began our journey. Shining Nikki has both 2D and 3D art. Both of these games are stunning, so check them out!
Before Love Nikki, there were two other dress-up games in this series that did not involve being transported into a magical world. However, these games are less well-known (kind of like the earlier Persona games, haha
), and not much is known about them, especially to international fans.
The developers of the game are Chinese, so expect to get a lot of goodies around Lunar New Year and other major Chinese holidays!
According to Shining Nikki, our main character is around 19 years old and went to college before getting transported to Miraland. Her birthday is December 6, which is why Infinity Nikki came out last week and why we got a free outfit (we’ll get a new one every year!)
Nikki's Chinese name is Nuan Nuan, how cute!
Momo claims he’s not a cat, but a member of the “Momo Clan” (Love Nikki). He was a little annoying in Love Nikki, but he’s more endearing in later games.
Nikki and Momo are the only recurring characters in the franchise.
If you keep hearing names like "Kimi" and "Nidhogg," these are characters from Love Nikki. Kimi is the closest character we have to a canon love interest for Nikki, so many of us are hoping to see her again. I can't say much about Nidhogg without spoiling LN, but at least you now know where the name is from.
In Love Nikki, there is a "blood curse" that prevents people from using violence. Therefore, people often resolve conflicts by entering styling battles and destroying each other with the power of a good outfit! I can't remember if this rule carries onto Shining Nikki (the prequel of Love Nikki, though it came out after), but that's basically why all battle mechanics are related to dressing up.
The biggest advice I can give as a veteran is: Don't bother with trying to make a visually cohesive outfit for styling battles unless you have a lot of clothing. We've all tried it. It won't work. For now, just layer on everything that has high stats. You're always free to wear your fashionable outfits during regular gameplay.
❄Worldbuilding
The world that Nikki has been transported into is called Miraland.
Miraland is composed of seven kingdoms, each with their own distinct fashion style. That means that if you do not like the style of clothes we’ve been seeing so far in Infinity Nikki, do not worry! They’ll have everything eventually.
For some reason, they changed the names of the countries in Infinity Nikki, and I’m not sure why. I'm 99% sure that the Heartcraft Kingdom that we are in right now is supposed to be the equivalent of Lilith/Ninir in previous games because they mention Cicia Art Academy (a place that already existed in Lilith in LN, as well as Ninir in SN).
The seven kingdoms are:
🎀Lilith/Ninir/Heartcraft Kingdom: In the older games, it was known mostly for fairytale-inspired clothing and lolita fashion, with the occasional “pastoral” suit. It looks like Heartcraft Kingdom in Infinity Nikki has been leaning more into the pastoral aesthetic, but Nonoy’s outfit seems to be in the lolita style. Also, the suits we have been crafting so far for catching bugs and petting the animals is at least lolita-inspired. (People who wear lolita fashion, please correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the Chinese version of this fashion is a lot more loose with the rules than the Japanese version I am more familiar with). This kingdom is always the first to be introduced in these games. Expect drama to follow whenever we get introduced to the royal family of this kingdom
it always happens.
🐉Cloud Empire/Lanling Empire: Known for traditional and modern Asian fashion. A vast majority of the fashions are going to be inspired by Chinese fashion, so if you’re a fan of period dramas or xianxia, you’re in luck! Aside from hanfu and qipao, they also usually have several kimono and the occasional hanbok. (Due to some controversies in Shining Nikki relating to conflicts between China and Korea, however, I’m not sure if the developers will continue to add hanbok in future games). Love Nikki also included some outfits for Chinese ethnic minorities like the Miao, Indonesian-inspired clothing, and Vietnamese ao dai if I remember correctly. All games also have at least one Peking Opera costume—it’s like an industry staple. However, unfortunately, Southeast Asian representation is usually sparse. Overall, Cloud Empire is usually the second kingdom to be introduced in the game, so I’m sure we’ll see it in an update around Lunar New Year. Maybe we’ll go along with Tan Youyou, depending on how the story will go.
👠Apple Federation/Starhail Federation: Known for streetwear, high fashion, and casual clothing (like what you’d wear on an average day). I think Dada and Bebe’s outfits would be classified as Apple, even though they live in Heartcraft. Unlike the rural towns we have seen so far, Apple tends to be a very urban, city-based environment.
👑Pigeon Kingdom/Twinmoon Kingdom: Known for European fashions, including fairy costumes, witch/sorcerer outfits, Rococo dresses (with long skirts, compared to the lolita style in Lilith/Ninir/Heartcraft), and anything else you’d expect to see in a Western fantasy or period drama. Funnily enough, there is always at least one scene in the Pigeon Kingdom that has to do with a cathedral, so expect some fashions with gothic and Catholic-inspired imagery as well. Some of the inhabitants who live there are elves and fairies, like the one who makes cosmetics (I keep forgetting her name
). Although most of the ability outfits we have so far look like they're from Lilith/Ninir/Heartcraft, the "purification" outfit strikes me as something more typical of Pigeon.
⚔North Kingdom: A cold country best known for winter clothing—heavy scarves, overcoats, and hats—as well as military attire. There is also at least one "ice queen" style suit in every game. If I recall correctly, this kingdom has been having civil wars since Love Nikki, so expect a lot of action in this area.
đŸȘWasteland/Terra Alliance: The original name of this country sparked a lot of controversy, so I'm glad that they have changed it. This kingdom usually has desert-themed clothing, ancient Greek/Egyptian clothing, clothing inspired by nature, bohemian clothing, and Bollywood-inspired costumes (the cultural representation isn’t always the best, unfortunately
but I am optimistic that Shining Nikki and Infinity Nikki are more culturally sensitive than Love Nikki).
đŸ€–Ruin Island/Whaleport: A mysterious island that features “futuristic” or sci-fi inspired clothing. Many players from previous games who liked this style have felt that the developers often neglect this kingdom, unfortunately.
❄Story and gameplay advice
Without spoiling the older games, I can say that, generally...
Most of the story is based on conflicts between different characters and sometimes different kingdoms. These problems, as mentioned before, are solved through styling battles.
Infinity Nikki seems to be going for a cozier vibe. However, both of its predecessors have sometimes gone into dark territories, featuring themes of war, violence, and betrayal. (I may or may not have cried over the death of a certain someone in Love Nikki...)
Therefore, dramatic things could very well happen in Infinity Nikki. I'm not saying that it can't be your comfort game if that is what you are hoping for, as the other games can still also be light, funny, and cozy. I just want to warn more sensitive players who might not be expecting it from a dress-up game.
If the "miracle outfits" are like the "lifetime suits" of the previous games, they will take forever to craft. Take your time, but do try to craft them because they have very high stats.
I'm not sure how f2p-friendly Infinity Nikki will be, but I haven't spent anything on either of the other games and I've been able to buy many of the suits I wanted. Just make sure that you budget accordingly and remember that if you want one suit but can't afford it at the time, another suit with a similar aesthetic might come out in the future.
Keep an eye out for redeem codes! These are often posted by the game's social media, and you can get a lot of free stuff.
The fan-favorite kingdoms are usually Lilith/Ninir (Heartcraft) and Cloud (Linlang), followed by Pigeon (Twinmoon) and Apple (Starhail). The other three tend to get neglected, so if you like the sound of those the most, I'm sorry... :(
❄My predictions for future updates
Every time we enter a new country in Miraland, we will have new ability outfits to craft to fit the style of the new setting. This is because most of the outfits we have so far look like Lilith/Ninir suits in previous games, without influences from other nations. I'm very curious to know what a Lanling-themed electrician outfit would look like.
Since Lanling is the only other named country so far, we will see it next, hopefully in time for Lunar New Year. They're probably also going to give us another free suit. I hope it's Legend of the White Snake themed.
Then, we'll probably see the equivalent of the Apple Federation, followed by Pigeon Kingdom.
We will get a new version of this stunning dress. It's called the Star Sea and has shown up in every game so far. I'm actually surprised we haven't heard about it in Infinity Nikki yet.
Tumblr media
Please let me know if this guide has been useful, and if there's other parts of the games you'd like me to cover!

Qipao/Cheongsam Taobao Shop Recs
Tumblr media
A while ago I received a direct message asking for recs on where to buy qipao/cheongsam, and I figured I’d make a post for others who’d also be interested.
First of all - I think qipao should be tried on and bought in-person if at all possible, since having the right fit is important - especially if it’s for a formal occasion like a wedding. However, since that’s often not possible, I’ve compiled a list of online shop recs, mainly for more casual occasions.
Since English-language online qipao shops are plentiful and easy to find, I’ll be focusing this list on Taobao shops only. Please note that these are my personal recs, based on my own aesthetic preferences. Thus most of the recs are for shops focused on retro-inspired, minguo-style qipao made using the traditional ćčłèŁ/pingcai (flat tailoring) method. Also, I have not actually purchased qipao from any of these shops (all my qipao were bought in person) - this is based mainly on how appealing I find the designs.
1. 揉槷/Xi You - Elegant qipao modelled closely on historical designs, mainly from the Republican era/minguo. Careful attention paid to historical details. My favorite qipao shop to browse for fun:
Tumblr media
2.Â æ”·äžŠèŠłæ—¶/Shanghai Fancy - Specializes in chic minguo-style designs of the 1920s-1940s. Recently came out with a neat art deco-inspired collection:
Tumblr media
3. 攐äč‹èŻ/Tang Zhi Yu - Retro-style qipao in a variety of bold prints, with a focus on the form-fitting designs of the 1950s-1960s, including those from the film “In the Mood for Love”:
Tumblr media
4. çčèŽł/Fancy Dream - Dreamy, delicate retro-inspired qipao and modified qipao. Also has a nice selection of winter majia (vests):
Tumblr media
5. Top Ulara - A large selection of classic, retro-style qipao with a hint of glamour. Offers lots of long/thick/layered qipao suitable for colder weather:
Tumblr media
6.Â æąŠć›žæ•…é‡Œ/Menghui Guli - Nostalgic, conservative retro-style qipao for all seasons. Old-fashioned in a good way:
Tumblr media
7.Â æ™Žć±±ćˆ¶èĄŁ/Qingshan Zhiyi - Retro-style qipao in fresh, vivid colors and an interesting variety of designs and patterns:
Tumblr media
8.Â é™æ—¶è”ć‘ł/Xianshi Shangwei - Streamlined, retro-style qipao in subtle colors and prints that exemplify understated elegance:
Tumblr media
9. 茉茉/Momo - Tons of options for simple, cute, and casual retro-style qipao suitable for daily wear. Designs tend towards monochromes and all-over prints. Another review/rec here:
Tumblr media
10. 橂揊/Yu Gallery - Simple yet elegant retro-style and contemporary qipao. I love the shop’s use of sheer fabrics & layering in its designs:
Tumblr media
11. 搑捗飞FLY - Offers a selection of casually stylish retro-style qipao and modified qipao for daily chic:
Tumblr media
12. ć·é»›/Chuan Dai - Soft, feminine, pastel-infused qipao & modified qipao in retro-inspired and contemporary styles:
Tumblr media
13.Â ć››æ–€è‡Ș戶/Sijin Studio - Creative, avant-garde takes on (modified) qipao & qipao-inspired outfits:
Tumblr media
14.Â ćŻ†æ‰‡/Mukzin - Colorful, playful, and irreverent modified qipao and qipao-inspired outfits. There’s also an English website here:
Tumblr media
If you like the above qipao but still want an English website, there are several Taobao resellers that carry similar designs - for example, Beth and Brian Qipao. The hanfu shop Nuwa Hanfu also offers a carefully curated array of qipao, including plus-size qipao.
Finally, when it comes to in-person shops, I want to highlight Xiangjiang Silk Co., a relatively new boutique in New York City specializing in actual vintage 1950s-1960s qipao. There’s an article here on the boutique and its founder Heather Guo (who was featured in Vogue). Store visits are appointment-only, so you’ll have to reach out to Heather via her social media if you want to drop by.
If anyone has reviews of the above shops and/or more qipao shop recs, please share! ^^
Bonus: I also have online shop recs for hanfu (1, 2), modified hanfu/hanyuansu (1, 2), hanfu accessories, weimao, and hair accessories.

Ninjago character ethnicities headcanons
Kai and Nya
due to many headcanons I've seen through the years I've been in this fandom, I grew very fond of the headcanon of them being Hawaiians (since Kai's name is also a Hawaiian name), but I also really enjoy the idea that they might be Chinese (Nya used to wear a qipao inspired outfit in s1-2). So, Hawaiian Chinese!
Lloyd
Despite being blond, I believe he's half Chinese half Japanese. The reason for that is that Misako has a Japanese name (but an English last name) and, well, his uncle has a Chinese name. That's it. Chinese japanese
Zane
Okay, he's a robot, but mimics a human nonetheless. I like to imagine that Zane is based on some relative (maybe a son) Dr.Julien lost. To me, Zane's father was french with Slavic or Nordic roots, so Zane probably looks like these groups of people mixed in one.
Jay
Half Korean, half European. I like the idea that his mother was already half Korean, and I headcannon Cliff Gordon to be Korean, or at least have Korean ancestry/heritage (not so sure about what word to use here). Unlike some people, I don't like using Jay being ginger as an explanation for him being half korean, because ginger hair is a mutation, it can happen in any group. But anyway, since Jay wasn't raised by his bio parents, I'm including Ed and Edna here, and I believe that they could be Latinos. I also don't have an specific country.
Cole
Hear me out: afro-indian-brazilian. I have no reason for the Brazilian part besides me being Brazilian and an actors AU I saw that made Cole brazilian. And I LOVE it, so here. I think this would be from his father's side, who I also headcanon to be black, but Lily could be Hindi.
Pixal
I always thought she could have mixed characteristics, so, if she was in some human skin as Zane sometimes is, you wouldn't be able to identify just by looking. And when asked she also wouldn't be able to respond.
I follow the same logic in my 90s au, however, I headcanon her as albino!
Skylor
Very much obviously Chinese, there's not much to discuss here. Like I said, ginger hair is a genetic mutation, but she could be dying it red too. She's one of the few characters I don't envision being mixed.
Morro
Japanese. No reason for that despite him and Taigen from Blue Eye Samurai being SO similar (appearance wise).
Harumi
Also japanese (and also albino). No other reason besides her name.
Vania
I really don't know, specially since Shintaro is a confusing place. She wears an outfit that reminds me a lot o hanfu (chinese traditional wear), but her name is russian and Shintaro is a very japanese inspired name. so maybe russian-japanese? or russian-chinese? or the three together?
OCS!
Valerie, Vanessa and Kenichi (and by extension, their family)
ethnically? french-japanese. however, i write them very brazilian coded, so they're brazilian (but still descent from french and japanese people)

Full-color character commission for CodyMacArthurFett!
We started with the idea of "what kind of Chinese-inspired dress Nora would wear to her wedding with Lie Ren". And it escalated quickly! Designing these outfits turned out to be a tricky task too. So tricky that Cody decided to turn two of three options into finished pieces 😄
For both outfits, it's the color combination of Ren's green and Nora's pink color. The cloud embroidery is supposed to allude to Nora's theme and Semblance (thunder and lightning). Adding the dragon image was suggested by Cody, and I think it's very appropriate for the RWBY universe, keeping in mind the two Gods who created Remnant. The hair jewelry includes various lotus variations (Ren's symbol) and the first one also includes hearts (Nora's symbol).
Form-wise, the first dress is inspired by Chinese qipao, but with a more "fantasy" rendition. Eventually, we came to the thought that it can fit into the "fancy going out dress" narrative more. The second is inspired by one of the hanfu types, also known as qiyao ruqun (waist-positioned dress). And it has a wedding headdress.
Well, that's enough of my obscure chatter! Let me and Cody know: which outfit do you like more and why? We're collecting statistics at this point! 😁 P.S. With Cody's permission, I published all the sketches for this commission on my Boosty: https://boosty.to/rainbowzebra

Note
Here's a fun little Project Sekai fact! Almost all of your faves have appropriated other cultures as costumes and some have even done blackface. If you're supporting this game and refusing to make a meaningful statement about it beyond "b-b-but i said it was bad! đŸ„ș", you are fucking racist.
You're either anti-racist, or you're a pro-seka blog. Choose one. You can't be both.
Basically everything is problematic and actually I have criticised the cultural appropriation and racism present in the game multiple times, at no point have I refused to acknowledge it (and you’re not the first person to send an anon in). You can play the game and be anti-racist actually it’s called being critical of the media you consume and having social awareness, we’ve been over this. Everything is problematic you probably like problematic media too.
Yeah the game did revival my dream and that was fucking racist, the costumes are stereotypical and they didn’t research into any specifc native culture they just wanted to make something that would get them money. it’s not princess mononoke put the trained costumes next to each other, the trained costumes are heavily stylised to look "pretty and fashionable" and forego accuracy. I’m aware of that, I’ve said this before multiple times but you wouldn’t know that because you just randomly came here to send me this message.
Then there's also the kamikou sports fes set. Luka's qipao is very obviously altered for the sake of fanservice which is just so wrong, do not sexualise other cultures for money. Rui's I think is meant to be some sort of military hanfu? But quite stylised, which again for someone outside the original culture to stylise a traditional outfit just is a no-go because you will probably get things wrong. Mizuki's outfit seems to be based on Qi-lolita and there's a whole thing surrounding that about whether you should wear it if you aren't chinese.
and then there's the island panic cards which are both orientalist. yes, not just the boys, the girls too. the outfits aren't based on any specific culture and just mishmash different swana and south asian cultures and stereotypes together to make something that looks "exotic".
If you notice a recurring thing is that all of these are in some way wxs related, and wonder why that is, it’s because they’re the theatre unit. They wear costumes, these are just cultures being appropriated as stage outfits, because the devs don’t care they just want a quick bit of money.
all of these are horribly common in idol games and gacha games, not just project sekai, and it's important to recognise the problems rather than just blindly consuming it. If it makes money, devs will continue to include ca, recognise that.
and yeah puchiseka episode 6 happened at no point have i ever denied that. it should have never happened but it did and at the very least the fandom was able to rally together and get sega to take it down. even after they did that sega and clpl should still be held accountable for even letting it be released. while they didn't make the episode, that was entirely handled by an external company (who should also be held accountable for their actions - we're never getting a second season for a reason), sega still released it knowing full well the contents. it wasn't ganguro like people said it was extremely clearly based on a very racist and crude interpretation of african tribes, and for part of a joke no less. It was disgusting. And it’s not ganguro like how people defend it; ganguro is part of the gyaru subculture and the outfits in that episode were not that. there is no defence for what happened. at the very least, it was impressive that the fandom called out the episode and actually got staff to listen and learn. that doesn't happen in other games, and we managed to do it again with rmd. the fanbase is calling the game out and actually educating staff. It’s just critical consumption - fans of the media were able to recognise that the episode was racist and correctly called out management with enough of a voice to make staff correct their mistakes. They apologised, it’s not my apology to accept, and I still hold them accountable for the fact it even happened.
This probably all makes me sound like a white saviour, and I don’t want to speak over the people affected by this, but that’s what you wanted, isn’t it? You probably have me blocked already and never followed me in the first place, but if you really wanted to call out racism, then maybe you should’ve sent this to blogs that do turn a blind eye to the flaws in this game, not one that calls them out. Why just me? Was it because of the username, because you’re not the first person to make that quip. I know you won’t see this anon, but a word of advice. Most media is problematic one way or another, you can enjoy something but still be aware of and acknowledge its problems. Project sekai is not made with the intent of encouraging or funding harmful behaviour, yet it still includes some harmful content. Call it out, educate staff and tell them not to do it again, they listened once they can do it again.

thoughts gurgling
mainly art ideas I'll probably never get to:
leona in hanfu.
leona in qipao.
making leona wear one of those period drama outfits.

Note
On the missed chances with ML costumes, I can list:
Ladybug not dressing like a Xianxia character (the story became automatically THIS close the moment they revealed there was a way to get rid of the timer). This extends to all her other forms... And would be based on the hanfu, not the much later qipao (thus bonus points for not being sexy)
Adrien not dressing the tackiest possible way when his father crosses the line
Volpina not being cool and/or sexy (we know Lila)
Queen Bee not having a proper battle ballgown fit for a queen
Ryuko not being a frilly magical girl
Purple Tigress not being wrestling themed
Pegasus not being a Winged Hussar
What else did I miss?
The very basic opportunity to give the Heroes actual animal parts instead of just costume pieces?

a/n: i, of course, had to do my fav earthrealm poly relationship
summary: kenshi and kung lao have planned out an anniversary with raiden and johnny
warnings: suggestive at the end :)
Tumblr media
Kung Lao flattened his qipao, checking in the mirror whether everything looked okay and if anything seemed out of place. He wanted everything to be perfect for this anniversary. He and Kenshi had been planning this for weeks, making sure all of their schedules lined up nicely and had nearly threatened Liu Kang for making sure that he didn’t send any of them on any missions today or the next day. Of course, now that the day had come, Kung Lao was having second thoughts. What if Raiden didn’t like it? What if it was too simple for Johnny? Kung Lao pressed the heels of his palms into his eyelids and groaned. He would just have to trust in his and Kenshi’s planning skills.
Taking a deep breath, Kung Lao walked out of the bathroom and found Kenshi sitting on the bed. Kenshi perked up at the sound of the bathroom door opening and reached out for the hat wielder. Kung Lao reached his hand out and intertwined their fingers together, the feeling of Kenshi’s calloused hands grounding him back in reality.
“Do you think Johnny and Raiden will like the surprise?” Kung Lao mumbled, pulling Kenshi up and flicking off invisible dust from Kenshi’s suit.
“I’m sure that they will love it.” Kenshi pressed a quick kiss to Kung Lao’s cheek. “Where did the usual Kung Lao go? You’re so humble right now for such an arrogant man.”
Kung Lao scoffed and slapped Kenshi’s arm as he led the swordsman out of the bedroom and to the living room to wait for Raiden and Johnny to show up, “I just want everything to be perfect, that’s all.”
Kenshi hummed, and the two of them sat down on the couch in the living room of Kung Lao’s apartment. The hat wielder bounced his knee up and down in rapid anticipation for the two while Kenshi rubbed circles into the back of Kung Lao’s hand, trying to calm down the nervous Shaolin.
“Hmm, you know. I can think of something to help you relax.” Kenshi said, tugging Kung Lao into his lap. The Shaolin blushed and opened his mouth to protest, but Kenshi just slotted their lips together, and Kung Lao melted into the kiss, gripping on the back of Kenshi’s neck and pulling him closer. The two of them kissed on the couch for a few minutes, getting lost in their own world, until they heard a rapid knock on the door.
Kung Lao pulled away and jumped off Kenshi’s lap, hurriedly tugging at the swordsman to get up so that they could greet Raiden and Johnny. Kenshi laughed, a little disappointed his make-out session with Kung Lao had been interrupted but excited to see the others nonetheless. The Shaolin flung open the door and was greeted with a smiling Raiden and an excited looking Johnny dressed in a traditional hanfu and a qipao, respectively.
“Raiden! Johnny! You’re here!” Kung Lao threw himself onto Raiden, and the Earthrealm Champion gave an amused chuckle and kissed Kung Lao. Johnny grabbed onto Kenshi’s hand and pulled him in for a brief kiss as well.
“Come on! Come on! We can’t miss our reservation! Madam Bo will give it away if we don’t arrive on time!” Kung Lao pushed them all hurriedly to walk toward the restaurant.
Along the way, Johnny gawked at the lanterns in the air and the colorful red banners put up everywhere and nearly crashed into a few children running around with long dragon puppets and sparklers. It was Lunar New Year in the small village of Fengjian, and Kung Lao had to cut a very big deal with Madam Bo to get her to save a seat for them on Lunar.
They arrived at the restaurant a few minutes early, but Madam Bo happily led them to their seats, pinching Kung Lao and Raiden’s cheeks lovingly and getting a bit teary-eyed at how grown up they all were now. She took their orders and left, leaving the group to chat and relax for a little longer.
Their food came out soon, bowls of steaming dumpling, noodles, and everything in between piling onto the table as they each got a small bowl of rice and an extra plate for holding the dishes. Kung Lao heaped piles of food on Johnny’s plate, saying that he needed to eat more while Raiden and Kenshi talked in the background, watching with barely concealed amusement as Johnny weakly protested at the amount of food piled onto his plate.
By the end of the night, they were all fully stuffed with food, and Kung Lao pulled out his wallet to pay for the food only to have Madam Bo decline the cash and say that Johnny had already paid for the meal. Kung Lao shot a glare at the actor, remembering how he had taken a suspiciously long time in the bathroom. The sneaky bastard had been looking for Madam Bo to pay the bill.
Raiden also shot Johnny a lamenting look but gave the actor a grateful kiss as they stood up to leave the restaurant and go catch the fireworks show. Kung Lao steered them to the streets of the village, and they watched as dragon dancers paraded through the streets and lion dancers performed their tricks and stunts. Johnny squeezed Kenshi’s hand and described it all to Kenshi as Raiden and Kung Lao congratulated the various performers, saying how much they’ve improved from last year.
After a few hours of watching the street performers, the crows started moving in one direction to watch the fireworks, and Johnny nearly followed before Kung Lao pulled him back to direct all of them to a secluded field on the far side of the village. Already there was a small picnic blanket surrounded in a circle of pink petals. They all sat down on the picnic blanket, cuddling each other close and watching the night sky for the beginnings of the fireworks. Soon enough, colors burst along the night sky and the distant sound of fireworks exploding could be heard in the distance.
They watched the night sky as they all tried their best to communicate to Kenshi what was happening, but it ended up as an incoherent mess of Johnny and Kung Lao arguing with each other about what the firework actually looked like while Raiden rolled his eyes and Kenshi pulling the two apart to stop fighting.
As the show ended, they all stumbled their way back to Kung Lao’s apartment, barely able to keep their hands off of each other. After finally making it their back to the apartment without making any detours to a lone alleyway, Kung Lao locked the door behind him and was dragged off hurriedly to the bedroom by an excited Raiden, and the Shaolin was struck with the thought of how lucky he was to have all of them. That night, twisted among the sheets and under the soft glow of the moon, they all fell asleep together and knew that their destinies forevermore would be intertwined with each other.

a/n: wow, okay this was my first time doing this ever, and it sure was a doozy. between college ramping up and my dwindling motivation, it was a little hard to keep on writing in the latter half of the month, but i powered through and finished and now i'm here. thank you to everyone who read my fics! it was really cool to see other people have the same investment in these ships as i do. it was also pretty insane to see people i follow like and reblog my posts. that was pretty awesome, and i freaked out when i saw the notification.
i wanted to do a proper lunar new year's episode, but i couldn't find a way to fit it in on the actual day, so it's here instead lmao. it was a joy to write and post them here, but the posts are most definitely going to become more infrequent with college really starting to act up and a lack of ideas (it's why i post with prompts lol). hopefully, i'll post more soon, but anyway, this is getting too sappy. i'll see you all next time. :)

a bit of genshin speculation ahead. nothing lore related just analysing some design choices.
there are a couple of patterns i've noticed with genshin characters, like, most characters that wear any sort of skirts or dresses have them end above the knee (except Emillie and Citlali but we'll get to that), there are currently no character that wears loose pants that end at the ankles, as in no flared pants or slacks, and while genshin loves adding dangling bits to characters so there's som visual intrest when following them around in the overworld there is yet to be a character that have any fabric or whatever that the character drags around on the ground (another reason why i don't think la signora will ever be playable).
And thats kinda strange right? There are a lot of characters that i think would benifit a lot from having such a design option. Zhongli is the first one that comes to mind for me, the main concern here is his silhouette. Because when you look closer his design is mostly just a long coat/suit, he even has a tie, which are all very western design elements, which i think is perfectly fine for the time period i suspect Liyue is based, on which is the timeperiod after the fall of the Qing dynasty, maybe around the 1930s? (and that tracks with the theme of liyue's archon quest i think, being freed from the devine rule of an archon and the devine rule of the emperor seem similar, no?). In c-dramas/movies, during this time period you'd see a larger mix of western fashion and chinese clothing, often the women wear qipaos/cheongsams while the men wear a mix of suits and changshan, at least in my experience (keep in mind I AM NOT AN EXPERT, this is all speculation and guesswork that is not very well researched). It's one of the reason why i think genshin is so hesitent to add more hanfu wearing characters, despite it's popularity, it just wouldn't fit the time period.
Back to Zhongli, i think genshin's design team was trying to mix the changshan and a typical suit, which is why the suit jacket mostly looks like a long coat (put a pin in this, it might be relevant later), which is reminiscent of the changshan, but i think that goal would have been aided with looser trousers to really drive that point home. A silhouette more like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aditionally, i think characters like mavuika would really benifit from flared pants, her design is really top heavy, i'd prefer if her silhouette was more balanced. Same thing with Arlecchino, i'd personally prefer a more interesting/unique silhouette. (Also like, Chongyun, for similar reasons to Zhongli)
So why not have any characters with loose/flared pants? I suspect it's a constraint with the 3d models/animations genshin uses. All the playable characters share certain animations and stock poses, the one that feels relevant to this case is the artefact screen where the character puts their hands together while you switch around artefacts, the pose the character holds has them put their legs together in a straight line as well, and while any glitchy or weird fabric physics would be mostly hidden, there is a split second when you switch out of the artefact menu where you get to see the entire character, and while it may be only a split second that would certainly mount up considering how often you'd switch in and out of the artefact menu. And while you definately could refine those sort of fabric animation and physics it would also take a lot of time, time the design team maybe just didn't think would be worth it? I imagine they decided to set a couple of rules for every design to never explicitly clash with the stock poses/animation they already have.
This brings me to why genshin is so hesitant to design characters with long skirts below the knee. I (and most people i think) chalked this up to just be for fanservice, but after doing Emillie's story quest i think i might (?) have figured out why. When Emillie does the sprint animation you can see how her heel kicks up the fabric of her dress. And it looks Mostly normal, but Emillie is a pretty recent character, i'd imagine that genshin has come so far now that the design team has the resources and time to refine those farbic physics that they didn't previously. I imagine the design team were trying to avoid confronting that animation constraint until now. Citlali is an even more recent character, and she similarily has a long skirt, but she manages to avoid kicking at that fabric by having two slits at the back of the dress, which might also be why characters like Zhongli have a bunch of slits in his coat, it's probably to, again, avoid having to do any more fabric animations.
Emillie and Citlali also share another clothing element in common in having a noticable slit by their right leg. Why is that noteworthy? Because when their character model does the kneeling pose, only the left knee goes against the ground, the right leg stays up like this:
Tumblr media
Having a normal skirt would most definately complicate things with more fabric folds and keeping the knee and fabric shape in mind, and i think the design team was trying to avoid that. and while it might just be a coincidence that both Citlali and Emilie has a slit in their dresses at the right leg, any design would still have to work with this pose.
thats mostly what i wanted to say thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Happy Spring Fest and Chinese/Lunar New Year!
To celebrate, here are a select few of my D&D OCs in like Hanfu/older Chinese dress. Yes, all my OCs so far would be represented by this because its their culture. Yes I wanted to draw this. No I didn't have time, so we're going to have to settle.
Hailang (Hai) Saangbiar:
Paladin needs her sleeves tight to her wrist. Blue colorscheme.
Tumblr media
And also everything in this link lowkey I want to buy it now HAHA
For example:
Tumblr media
So good so good, first is more "historical" take of this outfit, the second is more of a fantasy take.
Luxury (Lux) Quartz:
Fantasy-esque style with of course added accessories. Can also do both gender's styles. BIG SLEEVES it's part of the drama!
Tumblr media
Obviously, the fan comes along with the outfit. They fucking love the loud sound the fan comes with when opening.
Post Timeskip Lux (future campaign):
Tumblr media
Also! Lux is a drama king so of course they'd rock a Shanghai style modernized qipao. Especially because it was see as a "showy" sensual modern clothing item anyways, they'd be drawn to it. This isn't shown lol I got tired.
SsatosthĂŒlasi (Ula)
I saw this one photoshoot with snake-hanfu and I'm obsessed. She would rock the blue and the white both. Also she would have a relationship this sapphic, and I'll need to write it down eventually. Not shown, but Ula would also rock a modernized qipao. With like. Embroidered snakes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Damien Wang/Gu
Based off the DC character Damian Wayne/Al-Ghul, so of course I had to find something that worked with the wonk colorscheme of red, yellow, and green. AND I FOUND SOMETHING THAT LOOKS DECENT?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh he's drinking alc here well, kinda fits the character if you know you know
Happy spring fest hehe!
