one of the things that's the most fucking frustrating for me about arguing with climate change deniers is the sheer fucking scope of how much it matters. sweating in my father's car, thinking about how it's the "hottest summer so far," every summer. and there's this deep, roiling rage that comes over me, every time.

the stakes are wrong, is the thing. that's part of what makes it not an actual debate: the other side isn't coming to the table with anything to fucking lose.

like okay. i am obviously pro gun control. but there is a basic human part of me that can understand and empathize with someone who says, "i'm worried that would lead to the law-abiding citizens being punished while criminals now essentially have a superpower." i don't agree, but i can tell the stakes for them are also very high.

but let's say the science is wrong and i'm wrong and the visible reality is wrong and every climate disaster refugee is wrong. let's say you're right, humans aren't causing it or it's not happening or whatever else. let's just say that, for fun.

so we spend hundreds of millions of dollars making the earth cleaner, and then it turns out we didn't need to do that. oops! we cleaned the earth. our children grow up with skies full of more butterflies and bees. lawns are taken over with rich local biodiversity. we don't cry over our electric bills anymore. and, if you're staunchly capitalist and i need to speak ROI with you - we've created so many jobs in developing sectors and we have exciting new investment opportunities.

i am reminded of kodak, and how they did not make "the switch" to digital photography; how within 20 years kodak was no longer a household brand. do we, as a nation, feel comfortable watching as the world makes "the switch" while we ride the laurels of oil? this boggles me. i have heard so much propaganda about how america cannot "fall behind" other countries, but in this crucial sector - the one that could actually influence our own monopolies - suddenly we turn the other cheek. but maybe you're right! maybe it will collapse like just another silicone valley dream. but isn't that the crux of capitalism? that some economies will peter out eventually?

but let's say you're right, and i'm wrong, and we stopped fracking for no good reason. that they re-seed quarries. that we tear down unused corporate-owned buildings or at least repurpose them for communities. that we make an effort, and that effort doesn't really help. what happens then? what are the stakes. what have we lost, and what have we gained?

sometimes we take our cars through a car wash and then later, it rains. "oh," we laugh to ourselves. we gripe about it over coffee with our coworkers. what a shame! but we are also aware: the car is cleaner. is that what you are worried about? that you'll make the effort but things will resolve naturally? that it will just be "a waste"?

and what i'm right. what if we're already seeing people lose their houses and their lives. what if it is happening everywhere, not just in coastal towns or equatorial countries you don't care about. what if i'm right and you're wrong but you're yelling and rich and powerful. so we ignore all of the bellwethers and all of the indicators and all of the sirens. what if we say - well, if it happens, it's fate.

nevermind. you wouldn't even wear a mask, anyway. i know what happens when you see disaster. you think the disaster will flinch if you just shout louder. that you can toss enough lives into the storm for the storm to recognize your sacrifice and balk. you argue because it feels good to stand up against "the liberals" even when the situation should not be political. you are busy crying for jesus with a bullhorn while i am trying to usher people into a shelter. you've already locked the doors, even on the church.

the stakes are skewed. you think this is some intellectual "debate" to win, some funny banter. you fuel up your huge unmuddied truck and say suck it to every citizen of that shitbird state california. serves them right for voting blue!

and the rest of us are terrified of the entire fucking environment collapsing.

hopy mopy that was a good episode. love it when tpot decides to get all cinematic. lots of things to talk about

having the cold open and stinger be about firey and leafy is very very interesting (“dreamier island” is adorable idgaf). didn’t really expect them to build off their cameo from tpot 8 like this, they’re obviously setting up another side plot (likely to replace the robot flower one that just ended). i don’t think leafy died in the storm, that’d be too straightforward for that much screen time. i think one got her, for what i don’t know. what kind of deal would she take?? i must think about this more

It was a simple question that was supposed to make you think. Given your experiences and your personality in general, you were supposed to cringe and ignore it. Maybe even make a joke out of it, especially that it was Frank who was asking you this question.

He wasn't supposed to ask it too. He wasn't one to ask such thing, not especially with the relationship that the both of you have. It was clear from the get go that this was nothing serious.

So why was he asking it now?

And why did you respond to it right away, as if you knew your answer even before he asked?

Looking back, you sometimes ponder whether the friendship was really platonic. You were sure of it when the both of you first became friends; he was a couple of years older than you. You sort of looked up to him like an older brother for the first few years of your relationship. And he was very caring too, always looking out for you.

Your other friends were the first one to notice the closeness. They often told you that Frank seemed to have a thing for you. You brushed it off though, saying that it was impossible.

His girlfriend then was an acquaintance of yours. She was nice and wasn't bothered by how Frank was affectionate towards you.

Indeed, you were untouchable. You were the best friend after all.

You rolled your eyes at Frank as he sat across from you at a local coffee shop near your place. It was your birthday and as always, you spent the most part of it with Frank.

He rubbed his chin and shrugged, "Sorta. Well, we were official two weeks ago. Now though, I'm not so sure. Here's the thing, Daphne can be really..." he said, trying to search for the right words.

You hummed and shook your head, "Immature?" you said and mindlessly scrolled through your phone.

"You should really stop dating girls who are immature, Frank. I swear to god, this is like...I don't know, the fifth time you dated someone like her? Why don't you settle for someone who actually acts her age?" you blurted out.

Frank groaned and transferred to the seat next to you, his body facing yours and his hand landing on your thigh. The first sting. The first realization. The first denial.

The art exhibit wasn't a flop, but you wouldn't call it a success either. When you got a call from the organizer asking whether they can include your paintings in the exhibit, you said yes instantly. What can you say? You were a struggling artist who was seeking validation.

But now that you stood in front of your works with barely ten people attending the one-day exhibit, you thought that this wasn't a validation. It felt like a wake up call that maybe, art wasn't your calling and that you should probably give up on your dream.

"These are amazing."

You were on the verge of breaking down when you heard his voice. Turning around, you were surprised to see Frank. He was nodding his head as he approached you, his eyes scanning each of your painting.

"What are you doing here? I thought you had work." you asked.

Frank gave you a face, "Did you really think I'd miss out on your first exhibit?" he said and pulled you into a warm embrace.

"I'm proud of you." he whispered before kissing the crown of your head.

One validation from Frank was all it took for the walls to crumble down. He was the one who had been there for you all along and that was why you completely trusted him.

Frank will never hurt you, he'll never bring you down.

Or so you thought.

It was a question that was supposed to make you think. But you didn't, because even before Frank decided to ask you that, you already had your answer.

You knew your answer for the longest time now, but decided to lock it into a box that you kept in the deepest part of your heart. It remained there unbothered and almost forgotten, up until this point.

That's why it was so easy for you to respond to it without even batting an eye.

"Yes."

It was too late when you realized that you had just admitted that you were in love with Frank. But you felt like it was the right time for you to bring out the key to that box, open it and just set your truth free.

They said that the truth will set you free, but why does it feel like it only imprisoned you?

"Shit, I was kidding." Frank said, his face panicked and body stiff from your unexpected admission.

Before you could even say something, Frank let out a nervous laugh as he ran his hand through his locks. "Wow, I didn't...are you serious?" he asked again.

It took you everything to brush off the pain, "Yeah, but it's no big deal. Come on." you shook your head and forced out a breathy chuckle.

Frank heaved out a deep sigh, "Fuck, I was messing with you. Are you sure it's fine? I mean, would this change anything?" he asked.

You deadpanned, "No, Frank. It wouldn't change anything. Like I said, get over it. It's not like I'm in love with you. I just love you...if that makes sense? You're my friend." you explained, more like lied.

"Look, it's not like I'm unattracted to you. I like you, I like spending time with you. It's just that I sort of don't see myself committing to you."

It didn't sink in to you immediately, Frank's statement. You didn't pay it any mind because again, you knew Frank. He wasn't one to commit so that was fine, you understand where he was coming from. It's not like you were going to force yourself on him too. But then you accidentally glanced at his phone and saw the messages he'd been exchanging with a certain someone.

That night, Frank's statement hit you like a ton of bricks but again, you chose to deny what you actually felt. It's fine.

Those words rang in your ears on the day that you found out. Your body turned cold, your vision blurred and your head spun. You'd never experienced hurt and anger like this, the kind that consumed you.

The kind that made you realized and admit that fuck, you'd truly fallen for Frank only for him to break your heart.

It didn't help that you were having such a terrible day at work. And Frank was so sweet to ask you whether you wanted to meet up with him. Not for sex, but to talk. The sex came rarely recently and was replaced with wholesome trips to the grocery, shit like that.

You knew there was something special going on. Even after he told you that he didn't see himself being with you, there was something.

Apparently, that something was just an assumption. Because when you asked Frank to meet you up that night, he said he couldn't and needed to be somewhere. That he'd meet with you the next day instead, a promise.

But then you saw him post a photo of him and Daphne. And it made your blood boil.

You didn't know which hurt the most, the fact that Frank kept you in the dark while he was trying to patch things up with his ex, or that he considered you his best friend and still chose to break your heart.

He knew you the best, your relationship and trust issues and out of all the people, he really had to be the one to fuck you up the most. You trusted him so much, trusted him not to hurt you. Hell, if he doesn't want to commit then that's fine. But for him to treat you like a second option? Fuck that.

For him to confuse you with his actions, the intimacy...were all of those even real? All the times he came to your support when you had no one, when he was there for you on days you felt alone. What were those? He made you feel so fucking special, like it was possible to actually turn the friendship into something more than just fucking.

All this time you thought it was one-sided because you never actually showed Frank how much you meant to him the same way he did to you. Turned out that it was one-sided, but only because you were the only one who fell.

The following day, you received a voicemail from Frank. You pondered whether you were ready to listen to it but at the same time, you wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. It was pretty stupid, he fucked you up and there was no excuse for that. But the friendship you had with him had a strong hold on you.

"Look, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. That was my mistake." he started off. "I thought that this was really just sex and having fun, but I want you to know that I like you. I really do, you're special to me. Please give me a chance to make things right. Daph and I...I want to end things with her. Please stay, I don't know what I'd do without you."

“I just didn’t expect that you’d end up falling for me, I mean shit. You know the real me, how fucked up I am when it comes to relationships. Just please...please stay?”

Did you stay? Sort of. But you kept your distance, didn't meet up with Frank after that and only responded to his texts occasionally. Did he end things with Daph?

He didn't.

He said he would but instead, they got back together.

It was fucking selfish of Frank to ask for you to stay only for him to get back together with his ex. It'd be better for him to just slap you in the face then.

Being told that he couldn't see himself committing to you but then going back with his ex was the cherry on top. God, if that didn't mess up with your self-worth.

You totally stopped talking to Frank, ignored his texts and calls. You stayed away from him, tried to get over him and eventually, you did. But you'd be lying if you said that he never left an effect on you. Because he did, Frank did a number on you and it would take you a long fucking time to completely recover from the damage he inflicted on you.

You should've said no. You should've known better. But you said yes because you didn't know any better.

And that's okay, because there's nothing wrong with taking risks and ending up in heartbreak.

Elafus is more confident in her person and while she doesn’t go about saying that she’s a mutantblood, it’s not something she’d lie about when asked. Since she’s an assassin for hire, she doesn’t really stay in one place, opting to travel from place to place. She’s also got a blind cat. I wanted a cool assassin oc bcus I can only respect for real heroes who actually kill, so she’s a bit of a wish fulfillment for me. If you’ve got the bad guy right in front of you, and you know they’re gonna do more harm later on, just kill them? It’s that easy

Ok, so: I love cowboys, and plan on becoming one, and I’ve recently rewatched The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, and I’m reading a cowboy anthology book rn, so: Rubria, Buinin, and Felipe are all cowboys, and they’re basically the good, the bad, and the ugly

Rubria is the bad: ok so, Haidar’s entire arc has to do w the fact that he joined the mafia and his attempts at breaking free, and here w the dancestors, I wanted to explore that a little bit more. Rubria works directly for the mafia boss, he’s their right-hand man, and is sent to kill Buinin bcus she’s been a pain in the ass and a liability lately. Rubria’s an efficient killer, and he likes to mingle at clubs and saloons. Very conniving, usually always gets his way

Buinin is the ugly: I really liked that scene in TGTBATU where Tuco talks to his brother, who’s a monk, about how in their hometown, you could only get ahead in life if you became a priest or a crook, and coincidentally I had already made Itavam a religious person, so making Buinin the crook in the family was p cool. Buinin is a cow-rustler, and she’s been stealing from the mafia boss’ major storages. She’s very abrasive and heavy-handed, she’s a very focused and straight-to-the-point, no-nonsense person. She also likes to swindle people out of their money

Felipe is the good: dude I just really love Clint Eastwood. That’s basically the entire reason for him. Also me wanting to have more explicitly gay cowboys, but yeah vnfnvkjdnjsk. Ok, Felipe’s a smartass who knows he’s good looking, and uses that to his advantage whenever he’s on a job. He’s usually hired as muscle on farms, making sure bandits don’t get into the barns and all that. He also works as a guide, the reason why he moves around a lot. He gets tangled up with Buinin when he was about to shoot her for trespassing when she promised him lots of money if he helped her take out a sucker

Eyoulf, unlike their lil sib Botolf, lives at the edge of the forest, kinda prairie-like land. Think West Virginia. Eyoulf is actually more in-tune w their aspect, time, than Botolf bcus they work as the local horologist. They make clocks and watches, and is counting on their good work ethic and relationship w the townsfolk to not rat them out. They feel a bit lost, actually, bcus Botolf is so connected w the land and forest, meanwhile they’re keeping time, something that people worry about

Adersi, like Haidar, also got tangled up w the mafia, this time scaling the echelon to become their accountant. I really like the image of a very calm fellow just one day snapping, so that’s what I began with. He’s a very nervous man, a chainsmoker, trying to get his nerves under control. He keeps a gun on his person, just in case. He gets along well w the other cronies, but would rather Leave. He felt heartbroken when he heard that Haidar had also joined the gang. Kotkas, his gf, is helping him get out of this life

Wadjet is an army nurse, and the mood for her character is that beginning scene in Saving Private Ryan where Tom Hanks and the other soldiers are yelling for their medic friend, named Wade. I misunderstood his name as “Waye,” so the scene for me went, “Waye. Waye. Waye!” It was actually p funny, ok, so, Wadjet has been out in the cosmos, away from home, on the battlefield, for most of her career. She’s used to the dirt and grime, and basically only cleans her hands when dealing directly w a patient. Rat girl. She’s also a daywalker, like Euryyd, which makes her a valuable asset to the imperial army, saving fallen soldiers during the daytime. She’s a mother hen, always worried about her friends and her sister. When she enters the game, she immediately tries to find Euryyd

Ulrick is the alpha wolf of his pack. He cares and looks after the wolves, and makes sure they’re out of harm’s way. He’s kinda got blue/orange morality, but it’s bcus he’s been raised a lot longer as a feral child than Romuul, who’s had a steady exposure to other trolls and the internet. Kinda doesn’t talk, ruthless killer when need be, very gentle mountain man. He’s been surviving all this time basically by himself, w only Romuul as troll company before he left their pack. Nannus is not a jackass, unlike his brother Rajkaa. His being an actual kind rich person is based on every interaction I’ve had w born-rich Latinos, who’ve all actually been humble and kind and never minded getting dirty. Nannus is a very sweet boy, donates to charities all the time, and always makes sure to tip his waiters 20%. He’s also trans!

Kotkas is into politics and wants to use her status as a blueblood (high status troll, very long life) to get ahead and become an ambassador for lower-caste trolls. She also promises to bring stability w her long life. She’s based off of a very political friend of mine, who’s very passionate and aggressive. Kotkas is very soft around Adersi, but she’s fallen prey to comphet, bcus she feels that she must be w him. It’s a very heavy issue for her, bcus while she does love him, she doesn’t love him, and while she doesn’t want to use him as a pawn in her political campaigns, she’s found that it’s been of much help winning over the lowerblood vote, something that she feels very very badly for. She does want to help Adersi out. She’s a good person, she’s just tripped a few times

Grulla is a recovering addict who’s trying to get her life together, as well as Odette’s. As purplebloods, no one can really say no to them, much less deny them any goods and services. Grulla is very diligent, going to AA every week, getting support and trying to find out who she is. Odette still hasn’t realized the severity of her situation, and Grulla is trying to reach out to her

Etelan is very hedonistic and nihilistic. Since he’s never gonna become emperor, he figures that he can do w/e the fuck he wants, and no one can say anything because he’s a violetblood, you’re really gonna tell the prince what to do? No one can say no to him. He’s still also Sunnon’s bodyguard, but he doesn’t take himself seriously bcus he’s sure she can take care of herself (altho, he doesn’t stop hanging out w her). After partying way too hard one night, he lost the use of his legs and is now wheelchair-bound. This was the wake-up call he needed to stop and really think about his life and his life-choices. He was in a band, playing the electric guitar. Once he masters his aspect, space, he’ll be able to make space legs for himself

Sunnon is named for the Sun. Since she is the leader of their group, I wanted her to be the shining star for her friends, and I thought, “well, what’re the brightest stars, I can name her after one,” and I realized that. The Sun is a star. She’s very silent and precautious, she is next in line to the throne, and is anxiously waiting for the day she will ascend. Sunnon likes to dabble in the occult and wyrd, she studies legends and myths and would like to pursue them to become a witch, but bcus of her familial obligations, can’t. The game gives her the gift of her title, which is Witch of Mind. Now she can study all the magic she wants

This is the only game I have played where I truly didn't know anyone (except my very first ORG). What an experience. I know last confessional I said Sam and Shane were both kinda on the fence for me in terms of if I wanted to maybe work with them or not. An update: I think I want to work with both! Both of them, unprompted, told me they wanted to work with me if we lost immunity, and I have actually been getting along well with both of them I feel now that our conversations are moving past the sort of awkward beginning stages. I still like Sammy even though I probably should talk to him more oops... and Daisy/Lovelis/Ethan are also still in my good books. I kind of keep forgetting Pete and Cloud are on this tribe but when I remember, I am happy they are here. That being said, I think Cloud or Madison will be the first to go if we lose. That way even if we lose, I was a part of the team effort and won't stand out as someone who people don't know or want to work with. WE ARE IMMUNE!!! I’m so excited to have flipped the vote on Silver AND got us immunity but, I’m gonna have to be more careful if I’m gonna go far in this game. I know I can be strategic, I can be a comp threat but I really have to work on making myself a little dimmer in the social department. I know she _can_ get far in games, and I'd like to take her there again. Hopefully I can make her loyal and keep her out of the crosshairs by feeding her limited information. If she thinks I'm gonna just tell her shit, I can hold onto that relationship for a long ass time. Andreas and Amanda - Both of them talk to me about the same, and these are my first targets to go. While they're both sweet, I don't think they'll end up being much help to the tribe, aside from Andreas winning reward for us. Amanda didn't even guess, not that I'm shocked. I told people this would happen. They didn't believe me. I'm never fucking wrong.

ok so im hella bored at school 1. i am super stoked about the new tribes still! this is GREAT! i have been put into that hippo alliance which makes me think that i am in a p good position bc they see me as a semi-inactive goat type but they also need my vote to keep majority for now so im gonna keep on doing me ~ 2. the reward disadvantage thingy is probably good. it lets us most likely go to tribal and vote someone out which usually isn't a good thing but now i can use my vote as currency to prove loyalty! 3. this challenge? is perfect for my game right now because it lets me participate for once and prove i am an asset to the tribe for now! people are usually reluctant to submit for lip syncs but idc what people think about me so u know my dramatic ass will submit! ok thats it for now yeehaw

Omg SO I just got out of my American History class and we have been talking about WWII so my teacher is talking about double agents and this guy called Garbo and I’m literally sitting in class thinking ... this is a genius strategy to use in Survivor I’m crying!!! So like basically I’m going to be Garbo, posing as a German and feeding the Germans accurate information up until D-Day where I fuck everything up for the Germans and get right with the British. D-Day meaning ... the day we take out Germany's closest ally. Germany meaning literally any person I want to screw over and British being ... probably Logan and whomever Logan and I want to work with. See like this would work out better if things were actually happening in the game wkwjwjnsja ... I don’t think much is happening on my tribe (at least I hope not) like I haven’t been put into any alliances so that’s :-/ there’s probably an alliance I don’t know about and they’re plotting against me and I won’t even be able to use my cute Garbo strategy. Also like this is an old and flawed strategy I’m sure but IM JUST TRYING TO BE GARBO OKAY he’s an icon and tbh a very big reason why the Axis Powers lost WWII so we all need to appreciate Garbo. I actually had a lot of fun filming for the challenge! Wish I could've gotten that bass line down a little better...smh I'm really surprised about Jordan. He's like a Sour Patch Kid -- first they're sour, then they're sweet. I just hosted him in Island of Shade and it's funny how I went from literally having his bitch ass blocked after House of Shade 9 to now where we're allies and kind of...friends? He's really matured in the couple of years we've known each other and it's actually really sweet to see. I do feel like he's a great ally for me because he's stronger than me in competitions and I crush him in any endgame scenario presuming I don't totally bungle my social game at the merge (and there's a non-zero chance of that happening tbqh). He's a genuinely good person even if he is kind of irritating at times. I'm like six years older than him so of course I'm gonna find him irritating lmao. Can't really say much about anyone else on this new tribe. Just not getting a great vibe from Raymond, Jack hasn't really tried to talk to me, and I trust Lily and Nicholas but they're both pretty inactive. I feel like Jordan and I are kind of the heart of this tribe right now, which hopefully means if we do lose this challenge we'll be safe. I just really hope someone I wanted to work with in this game doesn't get swapfucked tomorrow! :(

okay so going into tribal tonight i feel good! i have my og hippo alliance of 4 and then i have good enough bonds with raymond and jack to where i dont think that they would come for me if given the chance. the logical thing to do is to vote out someone who didn't contribute on the challenge, but i know that isn't going to happen because if the og hippo alliance falls apart then that leaves a lot of room for uncertainty. however i do know if we go to tribal more than 1 more time after this i will be the next one to leave the game because i am the lowest on the totem pole for the og hippo alliance. it sucks and i don't want to do it but i think i have no choice but to vote with the hippos damnit
