i want to have what Odysseus and Penelope had/ve.
and no not just the pure and unadulterated love and longing to each other but i want everything
i want to be able leave/ be left alone for an unknown amount of time, and the only thing i am certain of is neither of us would be disloyal (Odysseus with Circe and Calypso did not count as that was a necessity and for the most part non-con). i want to be able to know that my partner or i would go through hell and back, that nothing could keep us apart. i want to have either me or my partner prolonging societal expectations, creating and undoing work while the other is throwing a infant off the high walls of an 'enemy' city and saving my men from being swine permanently. when we first meet i want to us to be the only thing we have our eyes on, even though we're both there for family. i want to have a child that has the looks of their father yet the education and love of their mother, searching high a low for signs and information on a father they never met. i want there to be a bloodbath of others who wanted us while the other way. i want the thing that reunites us is what wood our bed is made of. i want our relationship to continue knowing each other did what we had to to survive, even if that means hundreds - thousands - blood our on our hands. i want us to be the backbone, the standard of relationshiops for centuries to come; a tale of a man trying to find his way home, back to his wife and child after fighting in a war, almost losing his life and wife multiple times.
I want the bad the good and the ugly only if it is them. it becomes Odysseus and Penelope

me when today is my senior ball and I have to make a tough decision (upset someone to put my own feelings first for once) and then I find out that we can't go in the car like I'd been told all week we could (due to valid reasons but still upsetting) and my REGIONAL MANAGER texts asking if I can work tonight (I say no cause duh) and my store manager texts asking if I can start work an hour early (I say i can do 30 minutes but I'll be up past 1am and retail is tiring so I need good sleep) and it's also a bit rainy which matches the aesthetic of my dress (the Helena dress from the mcr Helena video) but I don't want to slip cause I'm wearing tall heels and UGH why cant everything just go right ffs

he doesnt fucking deserve all the hate he has for 'cheating' on his wife.
he didnt fucking cheat... he was forced into situations where he didnt have a choice. he couldnt choose to not sleep with circe in return for his men turned pigs or for information about getting to the underworld, because hermes told him it was the only option, it was the only option. he chouldnt choose to leave ogygia and calypso and head home after so long, he had poseidon out to kill him and none of the gods on his side to leave her island for years. he didnt have a choice in any of it.
and the fact he didnt have a choice yet still yearned and wanted to go back to ithaca after 20 years, to his beautiful wife and child that has grown up without him. to an unknown of whether penelope moved on and remarried. there is a reason why penelope (and homer) calls odysseus 'best of husbands' and 'beloved husband'.
honestly if i was odysseus, i wouldve given up. i wouldve not been able to do with everything he went through, 10 years in a war that he didnt rlly wanna go to, and another 10 years losing more and more faith in going home battling monster and obstacle one after each other, losing more and more of his men, his crew, his brothers, until he was all that was left. he is the standard... he is the best of husbands.

“If I were a woman, you wouldn’t consider me unfaithful”
Just a random thought that popped into my mind while watching a video about the “Top 3 Greek heroes who cheated on their wives”, and for some reason Odysseus was on third place🙃

So. Someone tried to assassinate Trump yesterday. He didn’t die.
Unsurprisingly, but somehow disappointingly anyway, the libs have reacted with disappointment that he didn’t die. Hell, I saw those memes on Tumblr too. "How could you miss, he was three feet away!" and etc. Criticizing the gunman for not having gotten more range time in. Timing his shot badly. Whatever.
This is particularly ghoulish, because that gunman y’all are egging on?
He’s dead.
He was 22 years old and died yesterday, and y’all hate Trump so much that you’re celebrating his death and don’t even care he was on your side! This child was 100% a Trump hater just like you, died over it, and you don’t even care. You hate Trump more than you love each other.
I just can’t understand that level of toxic. And thank goodness for that because I don’t want to.

honestly its probably more than we expect the worst from white people but thought latinos would have their own best interests in mind instead of voting for him
its white people making the tiktoks and posting the tweets and joking about calling ICE and being racist in a ~liberal~ way
harris’s stance also wasnt particularly in the best interest of latino voters btw
the fact that trump won the popular vote shows that there are deep rooted issues in the minds of voters. the solution to those issues is not pointing and laughing when trump supporters “reap what they sow” because millions will be caught in the crosshairs, but most libs do not care about those lives. they know what they are saying and they know what they mean and they are okay with leaving people behind. they drop the liberal cloak and let the fascist show when they lose an election they Did Not Deserve to win in the first place

when i observe people getting itchy and looking for reassurance that it's okay to not participate in a political action like a boycott, strike, or protest, it reads to me like deep-seated moral insecurity.
one fears the judgment of a moral authority that, if it exists at all, would not be reliably found in the judgments of other people, and cannot be assumed to influence the majority of people's behaviors.
a lot of people overlay a simplified model of qualifiable moral "goodness" or "badness" over actions--and assume that the action's innate morality transfers to its actors. this often obscures the reality of a situation--an action's effects: desired and undesired, intended and unintended.
i think it is in everyone's best interests to counter this urge whenever it shows up. enough flattening actions and people into simple "good" and "bad"--what do you want out of an action, and what might it cost you to do it?
when you want to excuse yourself from a political action because the costs seem too great for you, be ready to own the consequences. if you feel guilty, either live with the guilt, or choose to do something that you feel better about. there is no earthly person who can truly clear your moral conscience or absolve you of responsibility.
and when you focus on cause and effect, you might notice that you're not spurred to action simply because there's a lot of unknowns and you feel overwhelmed. take a minute to get curious about an action's stated goals and strategy. if you can't manage an action someone suggests, there might be something on a smaller scale that still supports the same goal.
i have no interest in telling people to continuously overextend themselves, to burn themselves on the altar of politics. others might feel differently, but i don't think it's a sustainable strategy. in my experience, guilt, shame, and insecurity paralyze and poison far more than inspire action. i want to lower the barrier to entry on political action by recentering the material.
so let's leave behind the notion of cosmic morality and continue to focus on tangible actions and consequences. ideally we don't fight for our politics to feel like "good people", we fight because we want something to be different and better than it was before. it's through our collective actions, large and small, that we get there. Smiles

i hate american liberals so much. u can rationale ur vote for a zionist, decrepit, fascist-on-immigration, roe v wade non-codifying, student debt erasure carrot-dangling, police budget-increasing, proudly genocidal old man all u like, but stop fucking posturing that its evil that other people refuse to.
he has a direct hand in the massacre of thousands of palestinians, he has all the fucking leverage in this situation, in fact the reason every UN resolution has fallen through is BECAUSE of Biden, no other nation at this point can get past the USA's veto power and by proxy, Israel's. All this while Your Man was in power, when are you gonna learn nothing under electoralism is promised? everything at stake can be ripped away from you at any moment? nothing he offers to use as a way to get into power is actually guaranteed and in fact is likely just a bargaining chip for your approval. he doesnt mean ANY of it. stop attempting to guilt-trip people into voting when they see right through their blatant lies

OK so im getting a lot of traction on this post recently and i gotta come and clarify smth that i didnt realise and no one pointed out butttt:
the suitors are practically telemachus’ age if not younger. all 108-120 of them. antinous at best wouldve been maybe a couple of years older than telemachus, meaning that their fathers were also off at war with odysseus and therefore also did not get the education of patriachal bullshit ancient greeks received.
however the suitors probably had their grandfathers who wouldve taught them, whereas telemachus’ grandfather laertes moved away from the castle most likely after anticlea (his wife died).
telemachus only had his grieving mother and slaves to keep him company as well as the chaos wreaking suitors until athena showed up.
i'm rereading the odyssey (emily wilson's trans) cause epic: the musical is making me miss ancient texts. anyways as i was reading the second book, telemachus calls ithacans to council (the first since odysseus left) and he says to them that he has not been trained to fight whatsoever. and it just made me realise how important the patriach is in ancient greece, how it progresses society and the kings of ancient greece. like most if not all royalty at the time were trained in all areas.
it makes sense that suitors were able to take control cause telemachus didnt have that nurture or training that he wouldve gotten if odysseus had come home. and laertes was most likely too old to train telemachus. i bet that antinous or eurymachus or any of the suitors didnt want to take up their duty as men to teach telemachus.
honestly i feel kinda bad for telemachus cause he was missing so much experience other sons got.

got told off for jaywalking by this lady and I'm actually praying she's a teacher bc I'm in school uniform and if this fucking random lady had the audacity to tell me "the lights are there for a reason so you don't give the driver a heart attack" when I CHECKED CAUSE THATS COMMON SENSE and the road was completely fucking empty and SO MANY people jaywalk there like ??? ma'am I am not the only one
but I have my doubts bc I've never seen her before (I'm in my last year of hs so I'd know if she's a regular teacher here) and no teachers stand there usually do like wtf ?? like respectfully if I was safe and not in danger then why would u do that bro

do you ever think about just what your character would think about if they knew about all the different stories and horrors and timelines they have been in and through? hannah knows that they exist, and personally i headcanon that within her dreams, she sees different timelines, but only consciously acknowledges that some might be strands on a different web than the one she's in right now, but if my other characters knew? i have so many different thoughts on just how they might react because oh boy do i think it would terrify steph.

My parents and I were talking about Lent and mom said that she's glad she wasn't alive during Jesus's time, because as a conservative and authoritarian, she feels like she'd have been one of the people throwing stones at Him if she were.
And I was like..... maybe that's a HUGE BLINKING NEON sign to stop being either of these things???
Like how do you, as a christian, get yourself to admit that and not re-examine every political worldview you've adopted to lead you to that point. You were this close to getting it. This close.
