This is an important reminder that pointing out homophobia isn't a rebuttal or justification for genocide, it's fucking awful that people will use the LGBTQIA+ community as a limp wristed justification and excuse for war while also perpetuating oppressive heteronormative power structures. No matter ones gender, sexuality, or creed genocide is evil and must be stopped period with full force. Attempting to expose some non-existent hypocrisy simply shows that you support the side that's commiting genocide. Just to be clear as a queer person I oppose terrorism and the oppression of LGBTQIA+ people however that all pales in the face of genocide, Israel is commiting genocide and no crime no matter how vile or awful justifies the horror Israel has inflicted on the Palestinians.

You know what? You're right about everything. In fact people who shit all over mspec gays/lesbians not only have no concept of how anything works, but they're also fucking selfish and horrible members of the community. I'll die on this hill. A bunch of assholes only out for themselves.
We are actively under fire in many countries. US and UK are actively heading into a trans genocide. Russia is getting worse, too now. Loads of other countries I haven't named. (Before anyone says jack shit the fucking center named after the person who coined the term genocide said we were headed that way. Genocide isnt an overnight thing you stupid leftists Do your damn research and shut up.)
We are at a high rate of suicide and sexual violence, regular violence housing and health care denial, etc. Do you think someone is going to stop and make sure someone isn't a snowflake queer or "tucute" or mspec lesbian before they bash their fucking head it? Do you think a doctor is gonna tell a nonbinary person who looks visibly queer "of course I'll treat you, you're not one of those trans people" Not to mention how you're so quick to exclude closeting and questioning kids who already want to kill themselves? Do you fucking hear the way you talk about your own people? LEAVE OUR OWN PEOPLE ALONE AND CALL YOUR GOVERNEBT REPS OR GET PETTITIONS CIRCULATED OR DONATION POSTS BOOSTED!
You would really rather attack people who's fucking LABELS you disagree with than do anything fucking positive to protect the rest of us? It makes me sick to my fucking stomach that y'all care more about policing than you do about your own people? Absolute selfish and cruel bootlicker behaviour. It's disgraceful, and I'm ashamed and enraged to share space with you people.

I've been thinking a lot about the definition of "American" these days, about how this is the only nation whose only real citizenship test has been willpower. Built by Builders. At least that was the myth. The America I was sold as a child was one that was more idea than place(whisper and it'd evaporate).
There were no gates, no kings, and no limits. Everyone was a peasant but no one had to stay that way. Built by builders. That was a lot of our first impressions. My first conscious thought, so gracefully implanted, was that I was lucky.
So lucky, in fact, that I "didn't even want to know what the rest of the world was going through!" And every time I asked I was shown the most traumatizing shit to ever haunt a brain. There was no possibility for equality or fairness outside. Only within could there be justice. We alone spoke freely. We alone were safe.
This magical land that played host to the world's most hopeful, ambitious travelers was slowly shifting into an ark that carried the last remnants of human decency. And the immigrants coming in slowly transformed from future neighbors and architects of our future to zombie movie survivers so desperate to live that they risked tipping our boat over, drowning us all with them.
So big army. OF COURSE! It was all starting to make sense! We needed the world's most well stocked army because we were fighting the world itself. Nevermind that we were stocking said army with men and women from almost every corner of it. Nevermind that some people on said ark were desperate, starving, discriminated against. Nevermind the fact that WOULDN'T YA KNOW IT? there were people here long before our ancestors who didn't agree to host us either.
Nevermind the fact the citizens were regularly getting gunned down by police. Nevermind the fact the there are records of national icons protesting again the government again and again and again. Nevermind that what they say makes sense and matches up with your lived experience.
Nevermind the research that backs up every single claim of widespread government corruption. Nevermind the data that shows America is essentially a caste system. Nevermind the fact the there is an oligarchy controlling the narrative. Nevermind the history of religious zealotry determining government policy. Nevermind the government buildings constructed by enslaved men, women, and children.
Built by builders indeed.
Nevermind the Native people's who are still living through a genocide and specifically women and two spirited people being assaulted and murdered without investigation. Nevermind the discrimination against and unlawful imprisonment of black, brown, and Asian citizens, specifically the continuous murder and unjustified imprisonment of black men and the murder and abuse of black women. Nevermind the patriarchal culture that places women below men in every facet of society along with the violence both systematically and within their own homes. Nevermind the targeting of queer adults and children for violence but also erasure by the government. Nevermind the rampant antisemitism. Nevermind the refusal to recognize the people of Palestine.
Nevermind the slave labor we profit from in the Congo. Nevermind the slave labor we profit from in our own prisons. Nevermind the air, water, and land turning to poison around us so the rich can get richer and buy their kids their very own supreme court justice or president for Christmas. Nevermind the abuses suffered by the working class. Nevermind the cult-like indoctrination. Nevermind the daily slaughter of our school children with guns we practically give away without second thought of how they'll be used.
Nevermind. Nevermind. Nevermind.
Nevermind the cows. The ones the Maasai people of Kenya sent us after 9/11. They sent 14 of their most sacred, life-sustaining herd to reach out their hand to our grieving one. To tell us we are not alone in this world. To let us know that we have friends.
Nevermind the countless gifts nations large and small have sent the American people over the decades through our every tragedy that our government has either refused to accept or simply not told us about.
When i think of the definition of the word "American" these days my thoughts race through the halls of history hearing screams from every doorway I pass. But there's also the creaking below a ships deck and a mother's calming hum and the rustle of straw and exhales of cows sent with love. I don't know what we were and I don't know what we are. But I do know what we could be: connected, hopeful, giving, lovingly constructive. I'd say anyone willing to make the lies we've told our children true has past the test for citizenship with flying colors. No gates. No kings. No lies.

There’s no doubt that if KOSA, an internet censorship bill, passes and gives state attorney generals power over the internet, they’ll use it to censor information about:
-The genocides happening in Palestine, the Congo, and Sudan
-The LGBTQIA+ community, their resources, issues, and history
-Racial issues, history, and group resources
Here are websites where you can email and call your representatives to help fight against the bill:

coining the term twospiritphobia / twospiritmisia.
Tumblr media
Q: what is twospiritphobia / twospiritmisia?
A: the discrimination, hatred, exclusion & erasure of those who identify as two spirit and/or indigiqueer.
Tumblr media
Q: why not just call it homophobia/transphobia against indigenous qipoc / queer indigenous poc?
A: because not every indigenous person identifies by western lgbtqia+ labels which are a predominantly western eurocentric concept that does not always align with indigenous turtle island concepts, not all queer natives identify with two spirit due to its heavy inherent historical, social, political, cultural, spiritual & ceremonial connotations & because we deserve to have our terms to describe our own experiences of discrimination that inherently includes our indigeneity & our own sacred two spirit nature.
Tumblr media
Q: why did you(&) coin this term?
A: because i've noticed that in the past year & even before, the predominantly white queer community refuses to include us let alone see us & when they do, it's usually to tokenize us then throw us away when we're no longer convenient, erase us (see: nex benedict, when the mostly white queer community erased their indigenous two spirit identity to make them their trans/nonbinary martyr despite them being choctaw & completely ignoring mmeiwg2s+/mmeip issues which is never talked about in queer spaces unless natives talk about it), talk down to us when we don't conform to your western concepts of gender & orientation that do not inherently apply to us, speak over us & our issues & push us out of your fucking queer spaces without ever actually trying to work with us despite the fact that we the two spirit community who were revered as sacred have existed on turtle island for over 5000 years & were the first victims & survivors of racist imperialist homophobic & transphobic based war crimes & genocide & have been fighting & resisting for our liberation far before anyone else ever set foot on these lands, longer than any other queer community on turtle island, longer than stonewall & whenever queer history is brought up, two spirit people & the violence against us from the beginning of colonization of turtle island are never discussed & quite frankly i've had enough of native erasure both historically speaking & in the present day. there's a reason why there's a 2s in front of 2slgbtqia+ in "canada", because we were here first. we will not be erased. there can be no liberation without two spirits at the center of queer activism. by adding this to your vocabulary you acknowledge & honor two spirits as the first queer people of turtle island & we deserve your allyship, respect, protection & solidarity, respect the indigenous roots of the term two spirit, honor indigenous peoples' way of living, loving & learning & building communities across turtle island, emphasize the importance of indigenous perspectives & identities within the broader 2slgbtqia+ community & further acknowledging & recognizing the historical & ongoing contributions of indigenous peoples to discussions about gender & sexual diversity & highlights the need for visibility & inclusion of two spirits in these conversations & acknowledging, respecting & honoring indigenous peoples as the traditional stewards of the land & that indigenous peoples were the first to build communities that honored romantic, sexual, gender & sex diversity on the land of turtle island ever since time immemorial.
Tumblr media
Q: what are some examples of twospiritphobia?
A: the erasure of two spirits both historically & in the present, assaulting/committing hatecrimes against individuals who are, or who are perceived or assumed to be two spirits, nonnatives — both white settlers & nonnative poc — culturally appropriating two spirit when it's an exclusive closed term from closed cultures for indigenous people of turtle island, if you are not first nations, métis, inuit, indigenous american, alaska native, indigenous mexican, indigenous central american, greenlandic inuit or otherwise not indigenous to turtle island and/or mixed with any of those groups, & you are not either reconnecting, semiconnected or connected to your culture, you cannot use the term, using antinative slurs against two spirits on any context or form that one cannot reclaim and/or using said antinative slurs casually/as insults, harassing/threatening/mocking/intimidating two spirit individuals while motivated by said individual's two spirit & indigenous identity whether online or face-to-face, treating two spirits differently than pericishetallo natives, even if one is native themselves, attempting to "correct" two spirits on their own identities, saying our two spirit identities are wrong, using religion and/or spirituality as an excuse to harm or exclude two spirit people, fetishizing/objectifying/sexualizing/romanticizing individuals based on their two spirit identities, opposing and/or dismissing the need for explicit two spirit representation & progress for two spirit rights & two spirit liberation, erasing two spirit issues as inherently gay/trans issues, not acknowledging twospiritphobic behavior in others, refusing to speak up for two spirit people, telling two spirits that they're unnatural or "attention seeking", speaking over two spirited people when they tell you you're being racist/being twospiritphobic, policing two spirits on who we can & can't be in relation to ourselves especially from nonnatives even more from white settlers, accusing two spirits of "oppression olympics" whenever we bring up our issues, not acknowledging two spirits as the first queer people who've existed for thousands of years on turtle island & denying indigeneity as the core element of being two spirit.
Tumblr media
disclaimer: do not fucking remove credit from us& being the coiner of this term, while the experiences of twospiritphobia/twospiritmisia are nothing new, we& as an indigenous bodied system demand respect as the coiner of this term. please ask if you intend on using this term on your wikis/masterlists. do not use this term for yourself to describe your experiences if nonnative/2S. nonnatives do not fucking derail, especially yt folx.

Welcome to Abolition Week 2024.
This year, our focus is Empire, its endless expansion, and the carceral technologies that make it possible. We have invited incarcerated and other systems-impacted writers to explore how the combined forces of Western imperialism and plantation legacies produce carceral logics globally, creating the conditions that fuel genocidal arrangements in the US South, Palestine, and other parts of the world.
Our intimate connection to the South allows us to hold sharpened perspectives on the many ways that carcerality and antiblackness are integral to the white supremacist capitalist imperialism at the very heart of Empire. Therefore, we are always interested in the things that connect us, the ties that bind us together in solidarity in the shadow of that dark heart.
We read about how the corpses left decomposing in the streets of Sudan have changed the migration patterns of eagles, and we can't help but remember that sharks altered their migration routes during the Transatlantic slave trade, trailing the ships and feasting on the flesh of the stolen Africans thrown overboard. We condemn the welcoming of Israeli police by the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) program to train US police in the same tactics used against Palestinians on the other side of the world, and we recall that Georgia also houses the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC)—once known as the School of the Americas—where Latin American dictators, soldiers, and police are trained to quell resistance against US imperialism in their countries through human rights abuses. We witness the organized effort to roll back child labor laws across the US—particularly in the South—with children discovered working long hours around dangerous machinery in Alabama and Mississippi, and we cannot forget the many thousands of children mining Cobalt for the lithium-ion batteries in our gadgets under "modern-day slavery" in the Congo.
The afterlives of chattel slavery and Indigenous genocide can be glimpsed in deadly exchange programs and torturous conditions, not only in the shared counterinsurgency tactics of global policing forces and military institutions but also in the shared cultures of repression necessary to accumulate capital and, by extension, imperial expansion. Book bans, repeals of LGBTQIA+ rights, police violence, anti-protest policies on university campuses and in their surrounding communities, abortion bans, the erosion of public health infrastructure, and exacerbating environmental degradation are all rooted in past epochs that, when revealed, remind us that the sun never sets on imperial violence.
Because of these connections and many others, the pieces in this series intentionally defy the logic of borders—and, by extension, containment—as writers consider the endless nature of Empire and its sinister violence.

It's really disheartening that Rick Riordan stance on the war I understand that he wants to be neutral on this stance but in my opinion by becoming neutral he only worsening the issue as many Palestines are dying that are mostly children, how the majority of Israeli are supporting the Genocide of Palestine, and how the government is trying so hard (but miserably failing) to justified the genocide. I will hold him accountable for what he said on this issue as during this period the choice is basically "you are with us or against us."
Part of me wishes he will realize what he said was wrong and understand the bigger issue that plays at hand. I will criticism for his actions as how can a man who promotes LGBTQIA and representation of minorities and disabilities in his books turn a blind eyes to Genocide of people. However we can only wait and see on his next move.
One last thing about your previous you said you don't group Riordan with other authors where do you would group him with? Also this is more on an opinion base answer but many people are boycotting companies that support Israel there as been another post on Twitter on boycotting authors. Rick Riordan happens to be one of them. Do you believed that he should be boycotted with other authors or he should be properly educated and apologized for his previous statement? If you believed he should be boycotted what do tou have to say to those who might have the mentality of "separate the art from the artist"
thank you for this ask, and i completely agree with you! it is extremely hypocritical of him considering what he preaches for in his books. i think he’s convinced he has properly addressed the apartheid by using very vague language that can be applied to anything, and in doing so, he’s addressed nothing really.
your first question on who i would group him with— probably other authors who are doing the exact same as him in their virtue signalling. i always like to link my other blogs to each other, so i don’t think it’s a secret that i have a red queen account and i’m pretty passionate about that. unfortunately, victoria aveyard is another fantasy author who has literally wrote a whole four-book series on the uprising against oppression but is now playing neutral in her address of the apartheid. rebecca yarros is in the same boat, although i haven’t read ‘fourth wing,’ fans have said there are large themes of oppression within the book. so if i had to group riordan it would probably be in the ‘i-like-to-write-about-it-for-profit-and-praise-only’ group.
in terms of boycotting, i think that’s a great idea! i would also like to remind everyone that the percy jackson tv show is coming out in a little over a month, but disney is a huge industry financially supporting israel as well ($2 million in funding), which is obviously far more damning than a poorly written address by one person. there is a boycott happening for disney as well— and the pjo show will be released on disney + . i implore everyone to not watch it on that platform!! personally i will be pirating it online (idk if i’ll get into trouble saying that here but lol oh well), because im pretty sure the boycott is only for withdrawing financial support, not simply consuming media.
i feel like separating art from the artist only works if that artist is… like, dead, and you’re using that art and its values as a historical insight to how the world was during its time. you can still like a piece of work that has a problematic artist, you can engage with the work (to an extent). but separating art from the artist barely works because either:
to engage with the art is to support the artist in some way, so that artist is making money based on your interaction with that (particularly in the case for singers and streaming of songs)
that artists’ views and values are so rancid that it’s literally embedded within the text itself. to ignore it is harmful.
harry potter is my all-time favourite example to use, because jkr is the scum of the earth, and her views are entrenched in her work. a lesser known example is sarah j maas and her books (she’s also not as dogshit as jkr, but then again, its not hard to be a better person than her). i’m not going to bag on these people for liking things by problematic people (would be hypocritical of me), i just think it’s cowardly not to address it when you come across it, or at least admit to it. to simply write things off as ‘separate to the artist’ is like purposefully turning off your critical thinking skills.
on whether boycotting or an apology is enough— if riordan did apologise and used specific language and not the nonsense he had in that blog, expressed his remorse for his ignorance and then actually did or said something to support the people of palestine then, yeah. that’s fine and that’s how we learn ig. but he should educate himself, too many activists, people from the arab community and especially palestinians are expected to be all-knowing and to educate everyone else on an already draining and personal tragedy. it’s been exhausting for me, i can’t imagine what they’re going through. if riordan (or anyone) needs to be educated, he should do it himself, and (at least in my opinion) i don’t think the info is very hard to find now. it’s just about weeding out the misinformation.
i think boycotting is a good idea as of now. it can serve to be a catalyst for self reflection for many people. also, as much as i hate most online discourses, talking about it online needs to happen. i don’t want these authors to forget, for a moment, about the ignorance they posted online during a time of international crisis.

I know it's not what I usually post here, I mostly use Tumblr as a comfy space for friends and fandoms, but there's something that has been itching at my brain for a time and I think it's worth a post, so let's talk about something more serious and less funny than gay ships for once.
Let's talk about transandrophobia. (throwing some TW for transphobia and misandry too while i'm at it)
I am a trans man, and I'm quite often exposed to the "all men should die" and "you're a gender traitor" discourse, which is awful for obvious reasons (the genocidal ideation, the sexism, the hatred, you get the point).
I don't know if the people who believe in those ideas realize they are sexists, or that wishing to kill half the human population is Marvel Bad Guy level of bad? But they seem convinced they are knights in shinning armor for the feminist cause. Which I disagree with (feminism was created to achieve equality, not to reverse the sexist hiearchy). It sucks, but I manage to deal with it most of the time, since it's "only" transandrophobia (they hate me for being a man, not for being trans, and they don't question my identity).
I have been exposed to another... flavor of those ideas. And they are both terrible, I'm not trying to say one is worse than the others. But I struggle a lot more with this other version.
I have a flatmate who wholeheartedly believe in the "all men should die" thing, and they aren't affraid to say it. But when they say this kind of things when I can hear them, they hastily add "except trans men, because obviously they don't count". Which I can't help but understand as "you don't count as a man -> you aren't really a man".
Which sucks twice, because it's misandry with bonus transphobia. Coming from a friend (who will soon be a former friend though if they don't do some self-reflexion) and a fellow trans person (they are enby) it hurts a lot. I often wonder if, since I started my medical transition, maybe one day I'll be too "man" for them and they'll start being openly against my mere existence.
Not only that, but this discourse shows some crazy hypocrisy imo; they seem to think that, by saying "all men deserve to die but trans men get a pass", they get to be violent but since they say they accept that a minority exist they are obviously good, unlike those who want to kill everyone.
And sadly my flatmate isn't the only one saying this kind of things; I am lucky enough to live in a fairly LGBTQIA+ friendly area (which doesn't mean there isn't any queerphobia, but it's a lot less common than where I grew up), and some people seem to think that, as long as they don't direcly attack LGBTQIA+ people, they can be hateful without it being bad.
All of that to say, it's not possible to be a misandrist and be an ally to transmascs. Personally, I'd rather people be honest when they are being hateful and discriminatory, rather than try to do moral gymnastics to be hateful without attacking minorities so they get to think of themselves as allies.

Listen up, folks. If you voted for third party or didn't vote in the us election, you supported trump.
That is quite literally the objective reality of how the system works.
You aren't a leftist, you're a moral grandstander with zero understanding of the situation we are in.
True leftists, wouldn't give their vote to dictator trump, in the name of "proving a point."
By voting third party or not at all, you helped the dictator who made it clear he plans to aid Isreal in their genocide of the Palestinian people, and ruined the us for lgbtqia+ folks.
You didn't "change the system" nor did you "show a reluctance to vote for the lesser evil." You showed a dictator how insanely gullible you are, by doing exactly what he wanted you to do. You played right into trumps hand and are parading around like some kind of savior.
You are "the blue maga" as one of your own tried to describe me. You are the folks who care more about appearing leftist, than doing what would actually help this country and Palestinians.
Leftism isn't about showboating and "showing your moral superiority." It's about doing what will ACTUALLY help the most people possible.
Change in the us starts at a local level. Vote third party for your governor, or representative. That is where third party stands a chance. It is quite literally guaranteed to lose in the presidential election.
(Btw, I voted third party in my local elections. In case the faux leftist who was trying to argue with me sees this, I wanted you to know that. I'm not against third party, I'm against throwing away your vote and supporting a dictator for literally zero positive change to happen as a result.)

The way any kind of powers can be taken as a metaphor for being ‘othered’ by society.
The hatred against magic/werewolves/superpowers/etc. in the universe of a media can easily be taken as a metaphor for homophobia/racism/ableism/etc.
Idk I’m not wording it the best way but it means smmmm to me and a lot of other teens ya know?
Like:-
bbc Merlin : magic as a metaphor for being queer and the being burnt at stake as a metaphor for queer people being literally illegal in many places
Edit: someone just told me that Merlin is a metaphor for religious persecution
Teen wolf: I’m not sure if it should be racism here or hate against mental illnesses but being any creature in teen wolf automatically making the teens a “freak” and in the later seasons literally facing the threat of genocide….
(I’m leaning towards racism or hatred again aa particular religion due to the genocide and dehumanisation aspect)
(I could literally write full essays on the dehumanisation that the werewolves/banshees/etc. had to face in teen wolf and compare it to real life events in history like nazi occupation, riots of ‘84 in India, etc.)
Spider-Man across the spiderverse: many scenes could be seen as a queer kid struggling to come out to their parents.
(miles and his parents “we love you and accept you as you are…” scene can be read as a coming out scene)
(Gwen’s father freaking out before quitting being a cop after finding out his daughter is Spider-Man and a parent freaking out when a kid tells them they’re trans)
(Also being LGBTQIA being illegal and a cop quitting their job to choose their child instead of the government/job…..)
Six of crows: the grisha being used as slaves, dehumanised or facing plain old racism or being killed just cuz they were born that way…..
(Again I could write essays on this)
Like I’m not sure if y’all get what I’m trying to say her but DO YOU GET IT???
It’s REALLY IMPORTANT!!

I don't want to get into US politics. I don't. I see all the debates and whatnot on this app, no thank you. But I also feel I've gotta say one thing, and you can take it or leave it, I don't care.
I understand the anger. I really do. I understand how angry we are at Biden for what he's doing with Palestine. Free Palestine, absolutely.
It's also imperative to think... How do you think Trump will treat Palestine? How about the third party candidates? Do we think now is the time to gamble against the cards of our two party system? Are we willing to gamble Palestine / women's right / lgbtqia+ rights / children's rights to restore the third party in our country right now?
These are genuine questions, and I'm not going to say I have the answers, not at all. But please, to all the people saying "we can't ignore what Biden is doing! We can't vote for him no matter what!" I completely agree with the anger, but please don't forget what Trump plans for this country, what he likely plans for Palestine, and what could occur if we give him even a small chance to get his foot back into the control room of our country.
He will help Israel much more than any other country is currently. He will funnel all of our taxes to genocide, even more so than now. He will also genocide your family, your friends, your coworkers, your neighbors: anyone you know and love who he hates in our country will be bloody and beaten by him.
My belief? now is not the time to gamble. But ultimately, we must keep in mind, when is the right time for what we want? We must be careful with every step, and part of that is when do we want to fight for third parties to be strong again, and what are we willing to gamble through that fight? Is it worth it with Palestine right now? What about gambling with humans rights on our own doorstep? Are there any third party candidates we entirely wholeheartedly believe in? I know there's much debate.
I know it's deja vu, I know, but one more term of Biden please. We can protest him the whole time. You think Trump will let you protest now that immunity is a thing?
And then after this, we can demand a better option. But for now, this is all we've got. Don't throw it away out of false righteousness.
Please. We beg you. Think of us. Keep us safe. This is my home. I don't want to flee. Please.

Look I intend to vote for Jill Stein
I'm not really interested in Genocidal Maniac v Genocidal Maniac v Brain worm ate part of my brain and died from mercury poisoning
I genuinely like the policies I can find from her. I would prefer to know her education and gun stuff but currently her main interest is protecting innocent people
I have convinced people who wanted to vote Trump because Biden can't make decisions unless he consults four people and a doctor (not my words) to consider Jill Stein and they are interested in her.
She's invested in indigenous communites
She went to Harvard and actually learned things. She was a doctor before realizing she can't tackle the problems she wanted to handle as one
She is for lgbtqia+
She wants to protect women's rights
She wants to turn away from oil and to more renewable sources
She's against the genocide in Palestine (and she's actually Jewish)
If that is throwing away my vote then consider the fact that your last attempts at voting have us stuck in the same position as last time
