Pumpkin Spice

13 Days of Halloween: Day 4

Plot: You help Eliot do some holiday baking, but you can't help but grow tired of Pumpkin Spice everything.

Pairing: Eliot Spencer x Gn!Reader (Y/n used once)

Warnings: None

Words: 738; I promise not everything is going to be a drabble! lol

A/N: I don't actually have anything against Pumpkin Spice (its not my fave flavor), but, it is ridiculous how much it takes over in the fall lol.

The smell in the kitchen was an almost overwhelming aroma of pumpkin, cinnamon and nutmeg. The counter was littered with a variety of muffins, strudels, cookies, cupcakes, breads and cakes, all to be taken down to the bar to be sold.

When Eliot had asked you to help him, you were perfectly happy too, finding the domestic bliss of baking and cooking together to be a main comfort of yours. But now, as you took out another tray of pumpkin spiced desserts, you almost grimaced.

"Is there a reason everything you made is pumpkin spice? I haven't seen a single other flavor yet."

Eliot smiled and shook his head "Every person that's wanted to buy a dessert asks for Pumpkin Spice, so that's what they are getting."

"What about the other fall flavors?"

"Like?"

"Apple? Caramel? Cranberry? Pomegranate? Actual pumpkin. It's not just pumpkin spice season. I'm tired of pumpkin spice everywhere I turn. All I see is pumpkin spice this, pumpkin spice that. You know yesterday, I saw pumpkin spiced Spam. SPAM, Elliot."

Elliot chuckled to himself as you ranted, watching you with an amused and adoring smile.

"I'll be glad to never eat or see anything Pumpkin Spice ever again."

"Yeah well I'm with you on that, I'd be happy to never bake any again."

Hearing your name called by Sophie, you took off your apron "If Sophie offers me another Pumpkin Spice latte I might riot."

Eliot snickered as he handed you a tray of muffins for you to take with you.

Kissing you on the cheek he smiled "Deep breaths."

Smiling to yourself as Hardison and Parker bickered about something, you saw Eliot come from the kitchen.

Seeing a tray of left-over desserts from earlier, you felt your stomach twist. Catching Elliot's eyes, he smiled knowingly at you as he set the mix of cupcakes, cookies and strudels down.

As Parker went in for the tray, Eliot quickly grabbed something from the tray, before she could grab it.

Grabbing a small plate, Eliot set the desert on it before setting it down in front of you. Your eyes landed on the strudel, and you could immediately tell it was not like the others.

Eliot sat in the chair beside you, his hand slipping around your waist. You turned the plate lightly as you looked over the strudel one more time. Looking over at him he smiled softly.

"Apple?" You asked, and he nodded.

You smiled as a warm feeling grew in your chest. Eliot pressed a quick kiss to your temple "Made just for you"

"Why does Y/n get an apple one?" Parker mumbled, mouth full of pastry.

"Because." Eliot answered simply.

Parker glared softly at him before snatching up another cookie and returning to her conversation with Hardison.

Turning over towards Eliot you spoke softly "But why do I?"

He smiled softly at you "Because I wanted you to have something to enjoy too."

You smiled and pressed a quick kiss to his lips. "Did you really only make one though?" You asked with a sense of uncertainty, he never just made one small portion of anything.

He shook his head lightly as he leaned in, whispering "I hid the others so Parker wont find them."

You smiled in amusement as you glanced over at Parker, who had luckily not heard you.

"Good idea." You said softly with a short laugh.

Grabbing a knife, you cut the strudel in half. Handing him one half, he smiled as he took it. Gently tapping the strudel's with each other in cheers, you bit into the strudel. The warm apple and cinnamon flavor coated your mouth.

Leaning into his shoulder, he held you close, as you enjoyed your specially made dessert. Looking back over at the others, you listened to them discuss whether or not you should turn the pub into a haunted house for Halloween.

Eliot leaned in a bit as he whispered "We need to make more pumpkin spice desserts tomorrow."

"Nooo" You groaned as you laid your head against him, making him chuckle. You let out a soft sigh. "I'll help, but only if you make me something else non-pumpkin related."

"Cinnamon rolls?"

You frowned lightly and shook your head.

"Apple muffins?"

"Hmmm, no."

Eliot smiled, "Cobbler?"

You thought for a moment before you nodded, glancing over at him. "Yeah. Cobbler"

He pressed a soft kiss to your cheek "Alright, it's a deal."

i think most people can generally agree that some sort of questline or raid or dungeon or what have you involving gelmorra the precursor city state to gridania would in fact. be rad as hell. but i have been sitting and thinkin on 'what exactly i would like to see from a gelmorra' thing beyond just a story tackling the duskwight thing and *vaguely waves hand*

and i think i've pared it down to a few elements.

it should take place in the ruins of gelmorra in some capacity. i wanna see what this underground and decaying lost city looks like with all the vague cosmic horrors that are often implied about the place.

gelmorra should in fact, be haunted AF. gridania as a whole is pretty haunted in general with all manner of ghostly apparitions spirits and what have you. the haunted mansion dungeon you tackle for the mq is stationed in gridania, and a lot of its later dungeons are haunted with all manner of voidsent. and well gelmorra shouldn't be the cause of all of that activity, i do think it would be striking to have gelmorra be heavily concentrated with those kinds of apparitions and otherworldly madness.

i would like one of the plots main focuses to be on who specifically ended up trying to stick around in gelmorra and became the ancestors to the modern duskwight. namely, it was elezen nobility that were the ones trying to keep the whole enterprise going, and it was from that nobility that the modern duskwights emerged when it proved untenable to maintain gelmorra after everyone else left. and thats fascinating when contrasted against their modern reputation as deceitful thieves living at societies outskirts and generally distrusted across all of eorzea. so in a hypothetical story about gelmorra and duskwights, a good way of interrogating that history and modern relation would be in a group of antagonistic duskwights seeking to reclaim that past glory, a way to complicate the affair with poor disenfranchised duskwights looking to rebuild a fantastical utopic vision of a past grandeur to improve their lives being exploited by duskwights seeking to achieve their own supremacy and noble privileges once more. hell the resolution could even be centered on leverging a wedge between the noble idealism and cynical exploitation parts of the antagonists leading to allying with half of the duskwights to stop the mad ambitions of the other half.

the plot should involve an astos expy in some form. for those not in the know, astos is a dark elf king who appears in multiple final fantasies but primarily the older ones. now, given astos is a dark elf and the duskwight are ffxiv's expy for dark elves in final fantasy context [see also, astos being blue and blue being a primary skin colour option for duskwight], i think it would make sense for any story focused on the duskwight in some form to involve astos in some form. the last king of gelmorra perhaps whos own past machinations are effecting the present day, or maybe even just that the duskwight antagonist group is led by astos whos leveraging his followers good will and idealism to serve his own ambitions of tyranny.

Currently obsessed with:

The Fall of The House Of Usher. The storytelling is top-notch and Rahul with an undercut and tattoos is just what I needed at the moment. A good way for Flanagan to exit Netflix and I'm interested to see what he does over at Amazon Prime. Also all the layers of Poe references throughout the miniseries was really ingenious and well done. I could also do a TEDx talk about how Mark Hamill was brilliant and Mary McDonnell was criminally underused in the series as well.

So I'm staying at a hotel and my room key stopped working, so I knew I had to go to the front desk and ask for help

And they did this once on Leverge - they needed to get into a hotel room so they stole a key card and used a magnet to wipe it and then Elliot went to the front desk pretending to be a guest who got locked out of his room, and when he was asked for ID he made an excuse for why he didn't have his wallet on him

So in my Autistic Brain I had my script prepared, I was gonna walk up to the front desk and tell the guy my situation and be ready to pull out my ID but he just. Never asked for it. He just asked for the room number, re-wrote my key for me, and handed it back.

It's so funny to me when the con tricks they pull in Leverage turn out to be even easier in real life.
