Allies in The Last Dam Job

There's this fun bit of attention to detail In The Last Dam Job when they're discussing how to get Dubenich:

This isn't quite the full gif but what it is is that Sophie says that Dubenich is going to know every friend, every person that they would be expected to go to for help. And Nate looks at Eliot and goes "we find someone who is not a friend" to Sophie and Parker "someone who is not in the game" to Hardison "someone we do not trust." And that's exactly what happens.

Eliot recruits Quinn who we last saw trying to kick the shit out of Eliot:

Parker recruits Archie who is retired:

Sophie recruits Maggie who is the token honest friend in this heist show:

And Hardison recruits Chaos who they all hate for trying to kill Sophie:

It's just a good bit of attention to detail.

Something about the fact that these shots are all grouped together, one after another, visually giving them equal weight just gets me. The narrative knows what's going to happen between JGY and Huaisang at this point, knows how it's going to treat JGY at the end of everything. And it still takes time to show Meng Yao instinctively and immediately going in front of Huaisang and Huaisang instinctively and immediately hiding behind him. It takes the time--literally, showed it in the background and focused on it with the same general amount of time as the other shots--to show that this act of protection and trust are just as real and true as Jiang Cheng defending his sister, as Wen Qing defending her younger brother.

Like, I dunno! There are other Nie juniors there! They have swords and shit! Huaisang could have gone and hid behind the wall, but he hid behind Meng Yao! And Meng Yao could have moved back with Huaisang, but he steps directly in front of him!

There's a lot CQL did to JGY's character and narrative that I don't like and that flatten or just straight up erase his full complexity. But I really appreciate the lengths that it went to in Episode 4 to explicitly tell us that he does not hesitate to protect Huaisang, even though at this point he does not have a sword and definitely does not have anywhere near the same cultivation power (if any) as any of the rest of the people in the room.

Right now, after being publicly humiliated, unarmed and definitely outclassed, he is brave. Along with the rest of the characters, he's allowed to be uncomplicatedly young and loyal and just as innocent as any of the other students there.

Considering both The Librarians and Star Trek are franchises in Leverage canon, Harry is just existing with Noah Wyle's face, Eliot is stomping around with Christian Kane's face, and Chaos is just sneaking around the interwebs looking exactly like Wil Wheaton. You can't tell me Hardison hasn't made fun of them for their celeb lookalikes.

That would also explain his need for his frogs when he's at his computer. Because a craving for sugar/sweets is another ADHD thing.

"The Two Live Crew Job" thoughts after seeing yet another gifset of Christian Kane twirling props: They're lucky Chaos was trying to take out Sophie instead of Eliot, because if you tossed Eliot a bomb activated by rotation, he would get blown up immediately.

Hardison and Eliot are having fun here.

Also given that they are nerds I'm assuming that in the small part of their brain not dedicated to how they're planning to kick each other's ass they are thinking all this showdown needs is a random tumbleweed blowing across the parking lot.

supremely funny to me that chaos accurately clocks eliot's "damn it hardison" as a hallmark of his personality. he's like a hater fanboy

I don't think we talk enough about how Hardison went from;

"I don't even know what you do."

To;

"S'up Eliot."

And the thing is-in both situations- Hardison was lax. When they first met Eliot was clearly annoyed and Hardison was just being his cocky self. By the time The Rundown Job happened, Hardison was comfortable enough to be in an elevator by himself hacking away. Knowing full what Eliot could do.

On the flip side:

Eliot went from;

"You are precisely why I work alone."

To;

"I have the best thief and the smartest hacker I know."

Which is say A LOT because Mason (Chaos) is around. And if I remember correctly- Hardison doesn't even think he's on par with Mason.

These two men grew SO much between getting to know each other and working together. Their trust for each other is so real it hurts.

And then you add in Parker and-ahh!- I don't even describe it. Because Parker went from being a lone and being almost fearful of working with people- to having utter faith in them.

Jumping without knowing if Eliot was there. And waiting for Hardison to go looking for her.

I think that's why Eliot's "Til my dying day." Is so- Aaaahhh!

I love them. They are a found family your honor.
