Two-Face is a Liminal

So! Harvey Dent was splashed in the face with pure Acid, strong enough to instantly melt and burn off half of his Face.

He definitely nearly died from that, if not from the Blood Loss then from the Infections and Chemical Poisoning that you would expect. Now, since he didn't actually die he didn't become a Ghost, but multiple factors led to Harvey becoming a Liminal.

He was born in Gotham, a city with a very high Ecto Level, his attack was one filled with many extremely powerful emotions, and near death experiences tend to draw Ectoplasm to the location.

It makes sense doesn't it?

The sudden Split Personality, that's his Traumatized Ghost Side and his Barely hanging oon Human Side conflicting. It got so bad he developed DID.

His Obsession with the Coin is his Literal Ghostly Obsession. In Life he was always preaching about how "Crime always pays, its fate" so now he relies on Fate to make decisions.

Harvey Dent is a Liminal Human, parading around as a Villain in Gotham.

RE: I see this as the narrative to explain the increasing fragmenting of society & verbal attacks that arise from disagreements over the tiniest things.. let's just admit to it, ppl generally do not like others due to our selfish tendencies & to a degree GOD labels that as greed.

The other month I was shocked when I looked up that verse where JESUS tells of this rich man who says to himself how he can relax because he has torn down his old barn & built a monumental monstrosity to store his wealth.. to which JESUS scolded or warned him: "You fool! This very night your life is required of you, who then will inherit what you have worked so hard to accumulate?"

This is the shocker: HE was not only saying you idiot, your wealth is not for you to kick back & enjoy yourself, rather it was given to you as a test to see if you'd do the right thing & provide for those who have not. Essentially now that your ego has mis-spent your windfall for the year, now all your neighbours will come kill you. The ancients knew to be generous with what they have bc they knew full well the ups & downs of life; that they were all reliant on one another's generosity to see them through the years of famine to share in the feast of others, and vice versa. But in modern times, we assume we can hang on to what we have through all the technological advances & educational forums, we have done away with our fear of GOD & how HE levels out the playing field for the have-nots to survive.

Note: Full disclosure, I read one or two articles during the covid fiasco & the doctors in Italy said they had already noticed the asymtomatic influenza cases in their patients a full year prior. jo sawashiro is far from the most interesting yakuza character out there, but the way they’ve managed to expand on his role in infinite wealth has bewitched me body and soul. a lot of things in yakuza are, but sawashiro is genre-breaking to the next level. this shit belongs in asoiaf/game of thrones. sawashiro and arakawa, more like davos and stannis, anyone? sawashiro as the loyal knight falling on his sword to fulfill his lord and master’s dreams? except the universe won’t ever let this knight redeem his honor because of abandoning his son, all those long years ago? in karmic retribution, without even knowing, masato exploits him and spends his whole life treating sawashiro like a lackey and a fool. and sawashiro accepts this as penance. one of masato’s final acts in this world is framing his father for murder and leading to sawashiro’s arrest, which he also accepts. despite everything, sawashiro still loves him, the son he once sacrified.

masato truly haunts the narrative of infinite wealth for ichiban (i.e. eiji’s caricature and redemption), but also for sawashiro. once he’s freed from his life sentence, sawashiro is still imprisoned by ebinu’s schemes—in attempting to fulfill arakawa’s dreams, sawashiro instead manages to facilitate the reanimation of the bloated corpse of his son, as ebinu transforms the seiryu clan into bleach japan. sawashiro knows he can never atone for his sins, but why won’t the universe leave masato’s memory in peace, either? then, in what could’ve been sawashiro’s final moments, after ebinu’s beating, we see that he’s been propped up in a wheelchair.
