On The Second Day Of Nickmas...
Day 2 of Juno's 12 Days Of Nickmas
The morning was just as chaotic and Jared was again unsure of how to mold into the commotion. Everyone ripped into their presents and stockings without waiting for any sign it was okay to start. Mary Lou didn't have a phone posted up to take pictures, which Jared was thankful for. He had a few more presents available to him, so he slowly opened them. He unveiled a new pair of shoes from Chris, a skinny silver chain from Matt, and a $100 Visa gift card from Nick's parents. After everyone had torn all the paper to shreds off of the boxes, they all shuffled into the kitchen, pretending the mess in the living room didn't exist. Mary and Jimmy were tag-teaming to cook breakfast for everyone. As soon as they finished a pancake or a piece of toast, another one was gone.
"Don't be shy. Grab a plate." Jimmy was the one to invite Jared in again.
"Do you have coffee?" He felt awkward asking, but that was his typical breakfast in LA. His job was very demanding of his time, so he just liked the caffeine to focus first thing in the morning, and then he would consider eating for lunch if he found time.
"Here." Nick handed him a mug. Jared peered down into the medium brown cup and back up at Nick.
"Just how you like it." Jared noticed everyone watching them and felt a slight blush creep up his cheeks. He quickly took a sip to hide his reddening face.
"Can I have the van today?" Matt took the attention away from the pair.
"Sure, honey." Mary handed her trustworthy son the keys, and he left with Nate in tow. Jared sat on a stool next to Nick, continued sipping his coffee and scrolling his phone.
"Dad, can Mikayla, Madi, and I get a ride to the movies around three?" Chris asked.
"Yeah, I can drop you off on the way to the office."
"Office?" Mary looked at her husband. Jared sipped his coffee again.
"It won't take long. Greg messed up the filing, so I have to fix it before the break." Jimmy kissed her on the cheek, and she seemed calmer about the situation.
"What are you two doing?" Mary asked her other son and his best friend, who were sitting quietly.
"I'm not entirely sure." Jared looked at Nick for any hint of their mystery plans.
"It's top secret." Nick bit into a pancake.
"Do you need a ride?" Both parents stared at them.
"I don't know, do we?" Jared eyeballed Nick again.
"No, we are just going around town. Probably just walk." He shrugged unsure of how he was going to achieve his magical plans without transportation.
"No, not in this weather." Mary Lou was stern. Her motherly instincts kicked in.
"Jared can drive, yeah?" Justin interjected.
"Um.. yeah. I can." He answered timidly.
"Here, you can take my car." Justin handed out his keys.
"Are you sure?" Nick had a twinkle in his eye.
"Yeah, I'm not going anywhere, and if I do, I'll just ask David to pick me up." Justin jiggled the keys, and Jared grabbed them softly.
"Thank you." Nick nodded at his older brother. "Wanna go?" Nick stood up.
"Honey, Jared hasn't even eaten anything."
"Oh, I'm fine. Really. Thank you." Jared politely declined.
"Ok. Be careful." They grabbed their bags and started for the door.
"Oh, and Jared?" Justin asked.
"Yeah." He stopped cold.
"Don't crash my car," Justin joked. Jared stifled a nervous chuckle. Deep down, he knew Justin was just playing, but he was still terrified of the 'what would happen if.'
"Where to?" Jared had no clue where their final destination was.
"Follow this." Nick handed Jared the GPS on his phone. They drove in silence, and Jared tried to sneak peeks at tall buildings when he could. He pulled into a little parking lot and parked.
"What is this?" Jared asked, getting out of the Lexus.
"Follow me." Nick tossed his bag over his shoulder. They walked a few minutes away from the car and made it to a big bridge.
"A bridge? That was your big plan for today?" Jared was skeptical.
"This isn't just any bridge. This is Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Memorial Bridge." Nick stated proudly.
"And that's supposed to mean something to me?" Jared chuckled.
"No, me. This is one of the locations where we filmed our famous intro for our YouTube videos." Nick had a massive smile on his face as he dropped his bag on the ground and revealed the camera in his hand.
"Oh, no. I'm not doing that." Jared watched a few of his videos but always thought the beginnings were embarrassing.
"Oh yes. You are." Nick grabbed his phone and started playing Miss Me by Yung Pleit.
"No." Jared was starting to blush a little. He looked around and noticed no one was around, and he felt better but still too cool to do anything.
"Dance Jared." Nick turned the camera on him and waited.
"I hate you," Jared said directly in the camera. He started doing some really cheesy dance. Nick busted up laughing, and he stopped moving immediately. "No. No. I'm done."
"It's perfect." Nick caught his breath. "You are perfect." He gleamed.
"Are you going to do one?" Jared reached for the camera, breaking the silence.
"I guess it's only fair." Nick handed over the camera and playfully flipped his scarf around his neck for a mock video intro. It was Jared's turn to laugh and make Nick feel self-conscious.
"So, is that all you had planned?" They started warming up in the car.
"Go here." Nick did the same thing with the GPS on his phone, and Jared started driving. "Boing! Toy Shop. The only toy store around Sommerville," Nick proudly stated as they pulled into the parking lot. Come on." Nick's excitement got the best of him, and he couldn't help but act like a little kid as he tugged Jared along.
"Did you film a video here?" Jared asked, looking over all the random trinkets and collectibles.
"No, we never did." Nick frowned, realizing that he could have made a decent video. "Catch." His demeanor changed as he tossed a fake sword into Jared's unexpecting hand. Jared looked up to see his best friend with a light saber in his hand and a stance that said 'come at me.' Jared wasn't a loser.
"You are going to regret this," Jared said, swinging fiercely at Nick. They battled it out playfully, moving down the aisle, with Nick almost falling a few times from walking backward.
"Take that!" Nick lunged at Jared.
"Oh." Jared dodged the attack, and Nick started free-falling into empty space. "Woah." He caught his friend before he hit the ground completely.
"Got ya!" Nick poked Jared right in the stomach with his lightsaber.
"You cheater," Jared exclaimed.
"You gotta do what you gotta do to win." Nick laughed. Jared pulled Nick all the way up into his body. They stood there for a moment, looking into each other's eyes. "We should go to the next spot." Nick stepped back to create space between them.
"Can I buy this real quick?" Jared looked down at the sky-blue play sword with the printed seal of Boston, Massachusetts.
"It's just a sword..." Nick said, looking at the cheap plastic, wondering why Jared would want it.
"Something to remind me of my trip here." Jared gripped it a little tighter, solidifying his desire for the inexpensive object.
"Okay. Come on." Nick set down his lightsaber, not really caring about it the way Jared cared about his souvenir. They waited in line as the toy store was a little busier than usual since the holiday was around the corner.
"It is 5.43." The cashier said. Nick quickly slammed his card on the counter before Jared could process anything.
"I could have paid." Jared rolled his eyes.
"Think of it as an early Christmas present." Nick nudged him and grabbed the bag. Once in the car, Jared knew the routine and took Nick's phone. He drove for a bit longer until the GPS took him to 30 McGrath Highway.
"McDonald's, really?" Jared rolled his eyes.
"Not just any McDonald's." They pulled up to the window and ordered. "This McDonald's is the one we went to and filmed our very first video afterward." Nick looked nostalgic.
"Okay, that's actually kind of cool." Jared smiled, feeling special. Nick wasn't one to open up often, so involving Jared in something he held dear to him was important. For Nick, it was just expressing his feelings in a way he knew how, and for Jared, it was getting closer to his best friend. Once they were handed their meals, Jared pulled into a parking spot.
"No, no. We gotta go to Buena Vista Parking Lot."
"Ummm... Okay. You are in charge." Nick started stealing fries as Jared chauffeured them around to the following location. "Nick... A parking lot?" Jared cocked an eyebrow as he turned the car off.
"Car videos." Nick pulled the camera from earlier out of his bag and set it on the dash.
"No. The intro was one thing but a whole car video, no." Jared folded his arms.
"I won't post it. It's just for us." Nick pressed play despite Jared's protest.
"What are we even going to talk about?" Jared huffed. Nick smiled, amused he won.
"Hey, Campers, we are here doing a car video, but wait, where are Chris and Matt, you ask?" Jared smiled at Nick's enthusiasm. "They are not here!" He falsely looked around.
"Hi." Jared awkwardly waved.
"This is my best friend Jared. Although this will never get posted due to Jared's insecurities -"
"Hey! Don't say that." Jared interrupted him.
"It's not a real video." Nick pointed at the camera.
"Oh." Jared sat back with a fake pout.
"Would you stop it?" Nick playfully shoved him into the door. After a moment of pushing back and forth, they settled down.
"Okay, okay. What are we filming?" Jared was much more interested in the idea of a video now.
"Best friend tag." Nick pulled a list out of the back seat.
"How long has that been back there?" Jared whipped around to look at the back seat.
"Doesn't matter." Nick was dismissive. "Okay. Favorite color."
"That's easy, purple."
"Yours is definitely green." Jared nodded. He couldn't help but smile at Nick for getting such an easy question right. "Favourite Christmas movie?"
"Yours?" Jared had no idea.
"Come on. It's so easy. I know yours!" Nick fought back.
"What is it?" Jared folded his arms, waiting.
"The Polar Express," Nick said matter of fact. Jared simmered down. "Told you!" Nick smacked Jared's chest. "So what's mine?"
"Nick, I don't know." Jared looked directly at the camera.
"Arthur Christmas!" Nick screamed.
"You are just saying that because the brother is hot!" Jared called him out.
"No, I'm not. It's a good movie." Nick's voice cracked a little from his lie.
"Uh huh. Sure..." Jared rolled his eyes.
"Stop!" Nick again started a shoving match with Jared. Jared, not backing down, grabbed Nick's fluffy coat and started playfully roughing him up too. Nick was holding onto Jared's wrists tightly. Jared's hands moved to hold onto Nick's fluffy coat collar. The shoving grew less and less enthusiastic until they eventually both stopped and looked into each other's eyes. Nick saw Jared's eyes flicker down to his lips and then back into his own. Without asking any questions, they both slowly started leaning in.
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
Jared jumped. "What is that?"
"The camera has to be reset every once in a while so the batteries don't die." Nick moved back into his seat more.
"Oh. We should probably get back to the house anyways."
"Yeah, we have a busy day tomorrow." Nick rubbed the back of his neck, wondering what had just happened between him and his best friend. He decided on the drive home he wouldn't bring it up unless Jared did.

Hmmm, what's new in Plot Bunny Land today?
Pre-series canon divergence where Epsilon's self-destruction left Wash in a vegetative state, his brain is completely intact physically, but it's a case of the lights are on and no one is home.
Not one to waste resources, Director decides to use Wash's empty brain to house Alpha instead of Private Jimmy. And Alpha creates a version of himself that blends what little is left of his own sense of self with the remnant memories of Agent Washington.
So Alpha wakes up in Blood Gulch convinced he's David Church, Dr Leonard Church's son and Agent Carolina's older brother and he worked for Project Freelancer in Command and oh god oh fuck oh NO, he's responsible for his sister's death. His father had him reassigned to the backwater Blood Gulch outpost as punishment because Alpha David is still his son but Director cannot even look at him right now.
(Worse, he thinks he got his sister killed because he was distracted by an affair/breakup with Agent Texas. Allison Beth, he calls her Beth, it's her middle name and she honestly preferred it and Allison was his mother's name.)
And Florida Butch Flowers thinks: good enough.
(There's still huge gaps, but Butch manages to convince him it's from brain damage when the MOI went down, so Church rolls with it.)
Except Wash isn't gone. He was just recovering.
Tucker has many concerns about his team, his CO is... certainly something, and he's convinced Church has a split personality disorder he doesn't seem aware of.
Church's ability to hit a target with a gun is inversely proportional to how much of a prick he's being. (or: Wash can hit his target, Church still cannot.)
Caboose likes Church. All of him. The nice-ish one and the mean one and the psychotic one. All Churches are good Churches and shall be his Best Friend. Yes.
(Wash is trying not to lose himself to the trauma Epsilon left behind, tries to cling to the outgoing and social person he was before, but sometimes he just really wants to do a violence. There's nothing wrong with that.)
Obviously Wash does not die by friendly fire, but he does maybe get severely injured which still prompts additional Freelancer backup.
Freelancer reactions start with "Oh, so this is where they hid Alpha" (for those in the know) to "Why does Church seems so familiar at times? ... HOLY FUCK WHAT DID THEY DO TO WASH?!?!"
Florida's survival is optional. Options are Optional.
(Ohhhh, Florida having Wash's emp unit in case of absolute emergencies.)
#rvb#red vs blue#leonard church#agent washington#more plot bunny nonsense I have not the spoons to write#I actually have another similar au floating around that has even less than this ^#it's literally just: Epsilon and Wash blend during the initial implantation because Wash's brain brains weird#and they think they're one and the same person now#they can't tell where one begins and the other ends

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock was released on June 1, 1984. Producers were reluctant to let Leonard Nimoy direct, who had never directed a feature film, but he refused to return as Spock if they didn't. The bad guys were originally going to be Romulans, but changed to Klingons. They kept the Romulan bird of prey ship instead of spending the funds to build a Klingon ship. Due to a contract pay dispute, Robin Curtis took over the role of Saavik from Kirstie Alley. In order to save the thought dead Spock and avenge Kirk's murdered son David (Merritt Butrick), James T Kirk (William Shatner), "Bones" McCoy (DeForest Kelley), "Scotty" (James Doohan) Chekov (Walter Koenig), Sulu (George Takei), and Uhura stole a decomissioned USS Enterprise. They were hunted down by Klingons lead by Kruge (Christopher Lloyd). The movie not only saw the rebirth of Spock, but it also show cased the destruction of the USS Enterprise. Summary:
American Born Chinese tells the story of teenager Jin Wang (played by Ben Wang), a son of Chinese immigrants, who for the most part is a typical high school kid. He collects manga, tries to join the soccer team, and is on a journey dealing with his own identity as he tries to figure out who he is. One day, Wei-Chen (Jimmy Liu), an exchange student, arrives at Jin's school. Unlike Jin, Wei-Chen didn't grow up in America, is loud and open by nature, and doesn't exhibit Jin's self-doubt and insecurities. At times, this causes Jin to feel embarrassed being associated with Wei-Chen.
Wei-Chen is revealed to be the son of Sun Wukong (portrayed by Daniel Wu), commonly known as the Monkey King, a legendary figure in Chinese literature. Wei-Chen had a dream that the mythical Fourth Scroll can stop an uprising against Heaven. The dream also told him that an ordinary teenager is destined to aid him in his search. So Wei-Chen stole his father's magical staff and is now, disguised as a high schooler, searching for the scroll in earthly California, convinced that Jin is the ordinary teenager from his prophetic dream.

Time for Yesterday gave me so much to chew on.
I don’t really want to spoil it if anyone is intending to read it (or bore anyone if they don’t) so thoughts about the book under the cut.
From the book’s summary:
Time in the galaxy has stopped running its normal course. That can only mean one thing -- the Guardian of Forever is malfunctioning. To save the universe, Starfleet command reunites three of its most legendary figures -- Admiral James T. Kirk, Spock of Vulcan, and Dr. Leonard McCoy -- and sends them on a desperate mission to contact the Guardian, a journey that ultimately takes them 5,000 years into the past. They must find Spock's son Zar once again -- and bring him back to their time to telepathically communicate the Guardian.
But Zar is enmeshed in troubles of his own, and soon Kirk, Spock and McCoy find themselves in a desperate struggle to save both their world -- and his!
One of the things I did enjoy was the change in Spock’s characterisation; he was softer but not in a way that felt forced- the story takes place after The Motion Picture and Deep Domain (which put Jim back on Earth at Starfleet HQ at the book’s end) so not only is Spock older, you get the feeling that he’s been doing a lot of thinking since the last time he and Zar met. Spock outright says that the incident with Vejur caused him to reevaluate how he interacts with the universe, and with the people in it. He allows himself to connect a little more with others (he and D’berahan, the little esper they bring along to contact the Guardian get along quite well and have a very immediate friendship), and the book expands a bit on his friendship with Uhura, which I thought was lovely. The side plot with D’berahan, a member of a species that communicates solely through telepathy did make me wonder at the ease with which she and Spock spoke, it seemed much different than the way Spock uses words, and it occurred to me that you could probably consider telepathy Spock’s first language rather than Vulcan.
When they find that the world is in imminent danger of ending, Jim’s put into a conundrum- does he reach out to David knowing this could be his last chance, and in spite of what he promised Carol? Does he have the right to contact David, and does he chance causing David any distress? In the text it’s set up a bit as a counterpoint to Spock- they’re both estranged from their children for different reasons, and how do you cope with that? Jim’s also conflicted about having let Carol take sole responsibility for David, and his past willingness to accede to her desires. I think though, that Jim’s more in line with Zar than with Spock.
Zar has been leading his city, bringing them into prosperity with the help of the things he learned in the future. Unfortunately he’s on the brink of an unwinnable war that will wreck all that work, he’s not happy as the leader (preferring to teach), and having been widowed and lost his child twenty years prior hasn’t allowed himself to get close to anyone again. He’s also closer in age to Spock and Jim due to the vagaries of time travel. Zar wants to teach but can’t because of his responsibilities to the people and city. Jim would prefer to teach (he would see Spock more often, too and I’m sure that has nothing to do with anything) but can’t because he’s constantly getting bogged down in Starfleet business taking him over hill and dale. Zar is afraid to get close to anyone (including his new wife Wynn, high priestess of one of the clans allied against him) because he’s afraid of her possible death. However, he’s able to get over his fear and will be able to go back to teaching because Wynn is a capable and enthusiastic ruler herself, more than willing to take on ruling the city so that Zar can spend more time doing what he really loves.
I think the suggestion there is that what Jim’s really feeling the lack of is support and partnership. While Spock is able to meet Zar on a more even footing this time, able to express more of his honest feelings, and in the end to overcome his qualms and do something dramatic in order to save his son, Jim doesn’t really get the same payoff. Whether he goes to meet David isn’t resolved, and while the book ends with him resolving to be firm about taking on more teaching opportunities, there isn’t really a resolution for his emotional arc.
I really enjoyed Spock’s final trip into the past to help Zar. Prior to their marriage, Wynn prophesied that he would fall in battle and rise, and Spock saw in the Guardian’s records of the past that Zar sustains a brutal blow to the head that likely kills him. To prevent this, he takes off into the past with a lirpa and ahn-woon to try and save Zar. Along the way he encounters the hideousness of war in that era- there are some descriptions of the injured and dying that are kinda gross (viscera everywhere)- and I liked that this was shocking and nauseating to Spock. He also kills someone accidentally and feels guilt over it despite that person being the one who nearly murders Zar. At the end they pull off Wynn’s prophecy by using Spock’s resemblance to Zar and a bit of Jim’s dramatics to scare off the opposing armies.
The battle against the Originators was neat, mostly because McCoy gets harassed by an alien taking the form of his ex wife (despite knowing it’s not Jocelyn they immediately start bickering), while the one that targets Jim uses Winona’s recent death to try and hurt him. That Jim reacts to the alien’s taunting by saying his mother wouldn’t ever think those things and that he knows he did his best for her, while Spock reacts by getting angry and putting himself between Jim and the alien is… fascinating.
There were a lot of references to other books (MR NARAHT MY SON!!) which I did like, it gave the world a bit of heft rather than introducing a whole bunch of new people again.
I think the change in Jim from the show to the movies is so damn interesting, it’s one of my favourite parts of these books despite the focus being mostly on Spock.
#I just have a lot of feelings about this set of books I guess#i love that they get older and have some of the same problems and some new ones#star trek tos#star trek novels#spock#jim kirk#leonard mccoy#zar#time for yesterday#a.c crispin

It started and ended with a Big Bang.
Thursday’s Young Sheldon series finale marked the returns of Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik as Drs. Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler. A future-set storyline confirmed that Sheldon has been writing his memoir all of this time — hence Parsons’ role as narrator and Bialik’s periodic interjections throughout the prequel’s 141-episode run.
Sheldon was determined to stay home and keep writing — more on all those office Easter eggs in a moment! — but Amy insisted that he get up and attend their son Leonard’s hockey game. (Leonard plays for the Pasadena Penguins, which tells us that Sheldon and Amy haven’t moved very far from 2311 North Los Robles Ave. in the years since they won their Nobel Prize.)
Big Bang Theory viewers likely clocked about a dozen Easter eggs in Sheldon’s office — including, but not limited to: Sheldon’s Nobel Prize, a framed photo of #Shamy in Stockholm, the DNA model, a Flash mug, a Rubik’s Cube coaster… and the couch from Apt. 4A!
“We should have kept count of how many Easter eggs are actually there and see who could catch them all because there’s a bunch,” executive producer Steve Holland tells TVLine. “There’s the robots boxing painting that hung in the living room… Sheldon’s Gollum statue is on his desk… there’s a little MythBusters bobblehead of Adam Savage that was on his bookshelf on Big Bang Theory….
The biggest Easter egg of all is saved for the series’ very last scene. Upon arriving at the California Institute of Technology, Sheldon is approached by a professor who asks if he’s lost. He’s played by none other than UCLA professor David Saltzberg, an experimental particle physicist who has served as a scientific consultant on both Big Bang and Young Sheldon for a combined 18 years, after he was first hired as a consultant on Big Bang’s unaired 2006 pilot.
In the video, series star Iain Armitage (aka Young Sheldon) talks with TVLine about Parsons and Bialik’s returns and sharing his final scene with Professor Saltzberg. Below, Holland dives even deeper into Sheldon and Amy’s returns and offers an update on the rest of the Big Bang Theory gang.
youtube
TVLINE | What was it like having Jim and Mayim back and getting to write for these characters again? I mean, it was so great to have them back just as people. We spent so many years with Jim and Mayim, and we still see them from time to time and keep in touch. Jim, obviously, works on the show, but we mostly see him on Zoom from New York. On a personal level, just to get to hang out with them in person again was great, and then to watch them step back into these characters was really emotional. I think Jim and Mayim both have said that they were very nervous and that they weren’t sure they could just step right back into [these roles], but it didn’t feel like that from watching them. It was also a difference of going from a multi-cam show [shot in front of a live studio audience] to a single-cam show, and watching them make those adjustments to play it differently. You play everything a little bit smaller, and they just did it so effortlessly. From the outside, just watching them slip back into these characters, felt really great.
TVLINE | I think many fans, myself included, were expecting a fleeting glimpse of Sheldon and Amy — perhaps they’d be saved for the tag scene. I was not expecting to see Jim and Mayim in what felt like a third of the episode! Like you said, people know that they’re going to be in the finale, but is there still a way to surprise people? Maybe most people think that this is going to be a coda at the end, so hopefully cutting to them right off the bat will come as a bit of a surprise. We were also trying to be really careful not to let them overwhelm the finale because, at the end of the day, this was still a Young Sheldon finale and this still had to be about the Cooper family. I feel pretty good about how we struck that balance. It was more than just a cameo, but that the whole episode didn’t revolve around them was important to us.
TVLINE | You revealed in Young Sheldon‘s Season 4 premiere that Sheldon and Amy’s son is named Leonard, after Johnny Galecki’s Leonard Hofstadter. Why didn’t you reveal their daughter’s name in the series finale? You know, we talked about it, but there’s a point of where it starts to feel like a barrage of Easter eggs. We had said the name Leonard before, and it felt like if you were going to say the daughter’s name, it would be weird if it was just Sally, you know? It had to be something, and then it felt like, “Are we learning into Easter egg territory?” We like the fact that like there are a bunch of these Easter eggs on the set that aren’t focused on [in the episode] and hopefully people won’t be so distracted by them that they they don’t pay attention to the scene; you can go back and rewatch it, freeze frame later and see what you can catch.
TVLINE | Sheldon has the couch from Apt. 4A in his office. That feels like a pretty big, potentially distracting Easter egg! The couch we rarely focus on. We thought if it’s too featured, people are gonna be, like, “It’s the couch!” and no one is going to pay attention to what’s going on. We were trying to be very careful about where we put things and keep them in the background.
TVLINE | We establish that Sheldon and Amy have moved out of Apt. 4B and have a house, but they’re still living in Pasadena. But having the couch from Apt. 4A, which stayed with Leonard and Penny once Sheldon moved across the hall with Amy, would seem to indicate that maybe, just maybe, Leonard and Penny have also moved now that they have a kid of their own. In your mind, are the characters from Big Bang — Leonard, Penny, Sheldon, Amy, Howard, Bernadette and Raj — all still close by and in each other’s orbit? I think so. I think they’re still close, and still friends. It was important for us at some point to put in an establishing shot of the house they were in because we wanted to make sure people didn’t think they were still in the apartment. It doesn’t look exactly the same, but it doesn’t look so different that you could not look at it [closely enough] and think that it was just the Big Bang Theory set. It was important for us to let people know that they have a house. They’ve grown up, they’ve moved out of the apartment, and in our minds, a lot of that stuff in Sheldon’s office is stuff that Amy was, like, “Well, you can put that in your office. That’s not going in the rest of the house, but that can go in your office.”
TVLINE | We end with Sheldon’s arrival at Caltech. It’s the first time you have shot on location, outside on campus. How did it feel to be able to shoot there after this combined, 19-season run? It felt amazing. I think the only other time on Big Bang that we went there was once when Stephen Hawking was on the show; we went and shot him in his office at Caltech, but you wouldn’t have known that because it was just inside. This is our first time going on the, on the outside of and we and the Sheldon had gone to visit [in Season 3], and we had seen the cafeteria [set from Big Bang], but to actually go to the campus was great. We talked a lot about who the professor should be that stopped Sheldon and has that last exchange with him, and we realized that other than [series co-creator] Chuck [Lorre] and Jim, [Professor Saltzberg] has been with the character the longest because he worked on the first Big Bang pilot. It felt like a really nice way to recognize David and all that he contributed to both of these shows that he has the last moment there.
TVLINE | Young Sheldon‘s series finale airs Thursday, May 16, 2024, exactly five years to the day that Big Bang ended on Thursday, May 16, 2019. Does it feel like kismet that these two shows get to share a date in TV history? I don’t think I actually realized that it was the same exact date — that it happens to be a Thursday and falls on the same date again. Yeah, that feels… that feels right!

Poe backstory headcanons, and other shit. BSD
* David Poe, Jr. And Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe, were not the best of parents. David had never really cared about being a parent. No he spent most of his time at local bars. Drowning his sorrows in alcohol, and avoiding thinking about his failing acting career, by starting bar fights and making advances on the women there. When David finally did get home, he would be a drunken mess. So irritable that if one just made the slightest miss step, he would all over them screaming and yelling till one's ears bleed. Sometimes even bottles were thrown. Elizabeth was a traveling stage actress, and a very good one at that. But Elizabeth was what people call a narcissist. To her, her children was an extension of herself, and they had to be perfect. Elizabeth would often start fights with her husband due to his drinking, these fights would rarely end well. But despite their fights Elizabeth would always pretend as if everything was fine in her family to keep up the image of a perfect family, bruises from her last fight with David? Make up. Edgar got caught sneaking into the police station? Oh why officer thank you for catching him. He is truly a troublemaker, I will make sure to punish him accordingly. Her opinion of her children depended on how good they were, and how much they complied to her wishes. Henry was the golden child. The one that did what she said and did well in school. Edgar was a troublemaker however. Never home. Always outside at the library, or god forbid a crime scene. Edgar was her least favorite child, and by extent the least favorite child. To her Rosalie was just there.
* William Henry Leonard Poe was born in january on the 30th in the year 1985, in Boston Massachusetts. Henry was the golden child, always obedient never stepping out of line, he did good in school, always number one in every activity. Henry always helped his mother with everything she asked, helping her put on her make up after David got aggresive, or cooking. Henry was the perfect son. Henry was almost always at odds with his brother, arguing with him about never being home, his hobby of finding and analysing crime scenes, and his lack of respect for their mother even though she does so much for them. After Elizabeth got tuberculosis Henry was sent to live with his grandparents, David Poe, Sr. And Elizabeth Cairnes Poe.
* Rosalie Mackenzie Poe was born on the 8th of december 1988, in Norfolk, Virginia. Rosalie was always a quiet child. She stayed in the background and just did what was asked of her. Never directing any attention to herself. She followed her mothers instructions, and hid whenever there was a fight. She didn't really have a close relationship with either of her brothers. Henry was always busy doing homework, studying, and helping mom with whatever, and Edgar was never really home, and when he was he would mostly lock himself in a closet, and write and draw whatever crime scene he found, or new a idea he had, that or he was getting yelled at. She doesn't really think she wants to hang out with him anyway, he was cool and all, but too morbid. When their father disappeared she wasn't that sad, she did grive but it was more of the idea of a father she was sad about losing, not really the man himself. And when their mother died of tuberculosis on her birthday, she was sad for the lose of the hope of her mother becoming better. She was eventually taken in by the Mackenzies. They were a lot better then her original family, her new parents actually care for her. She also lived in the same city as Edgar, though she still didn't see him much.
* Edgar Allan Poe was born on the 19th of january 1987 in Boston Massachusetts. If you had asked the people who had interacted or been around Edgar what they thought of him, they would have probably said they thought that he was creepy, macabre, morbid, dubious, grimy, sketchy, some of folk might even have used the terms retarded, or psycho. Not all of them are wrong of course. Edgar is a creepy kid, and he had always been very morbid. That being said however he was also very smart, while his classmates were just learning to read and write, Edgar had already learned to do so at the age of four and a half, with some help from a nice librarian. Since then he has read many books, mostly one's on psychology, engineering, criminology and everything that included, and of course mystery and horror novels. You see Edgar loved the macabre, he adored the mysterious and the stange, whether that be the paranormal, the existential, that of the mind, or simply people, he loved the macabre and all it's flavors. He also liked guessing why people would do the things they did, why they feared the things they did, especially when it came to criminals, there were just so many reasons, to him it was all just so fascinating. In short Edgar loved to study fear psychology. Edgar wasn't really home a lot, he’d rather spend his time in a library reading books, or breaking into a police station or crime scene to find more cases to solve, and motives to figure out, then be home and getting yelled at. To Edgar solving cases and the like came naturally, in his head sorting though the evidence and possible motives was as easy as breathing. It was also very easy for him to find these crime scenes because of his engineering hobby, when ever they moved to a new city Edgar would simply steal a radio off one of the police officers and modify it to pick up on any and all signals coming from the station, not just signals directed at it and emergencies, he never got caught. Edgar would also find cases (and info he needed) from breaking into the police station, he only got caught once, never again. When Edgar wasn't reading or solving cases he was writing. Edgar would write short stories and poems about mystery and horror, he would sketch out crime scenes and monster ideas, and he would write stories and plots, most of which were either in the horror genre or mystery genre, he did do some lighter genres but not a lot of the time. Edgar would often go into a closet or small room to write in when he was home, it just made him more comfortable. Most of the time when Edgar wrote it would be at night, when most of the other people were asleep. Edgar was a very lonely kid, due to his hobbies noone really wanted to hang out with him, and his family doesn't really like him either, not to mention he is so above everyone his age in intelligence, but well he didn't really like crowds anyway. After his father went missing Edgar didn't really Care much, he had never liked his father anyway. After the death of Elizabeth Edgar was in the foster system for sometime before being taken in by the Allans in March of 1995 on the 13th.
* there are very few people that know what happened to David Poe Jr. some others suspect it, but they can't be sure. On june 15th 1994 David Poe Jr. Had come home really late in the night. Noone in the entire house was awake except one person. As David Poe walked though the hall to the bedroom he heard scribbling coming from a little side room in the hallway. The noise irritated the middle aged man. He slamed the door open, and in that little room was a little boy scribbling away in a notepad. David yanked the notepad out of the little boys hands. He looked down at the notepad, and he without thinking read a word. Edgar in a panic subconsciously pulled him into his ability, and then he was gone. Dispite the ruckus that night everyone slept like a rock, except for Edgar. As Edgar climbed into his bed, his lips were tucked in a small smile. David Poe Jr. Died on June 15th 1994, in a poam with no name. The page the poam was on was later burned on June 15th 2007, on Mt. Taurus. Edgar doesn't really feel gulity.
* America needed more ability users. America had plenty of people, and by extension plenty of soldiers. What they didn't have plenty of were ability users. Yes they did have some, and some of those ability users were soldiers, but a lot of them also weren't. Some of those ability users abilities simply weren't that useful, or they would be to great of a cost to use, like that kid from St. Paul, Minnesota, he had a very useful gift, however that gift traded money for strenght, and at this time of war, the usa simply couldn't risk losing that much on what was just one soldier. At this point in time the government and military really didn't care if the ability user was an adult or child, as long as the ability was useful. John Allan would be the one to bring them a useful ability user.
* John Allan was a smart man, I mean he somehow dealt with drugs right under the militaries nose, so that should count for something right? The military had ordered all officers to be on the look out for potential ability users. For while they did have a system to keep track of them, there could be a lot that aren't in the system. John had his eyes on his new foster son, Edgar Poe. The kid was quiet, and flinched whenever he got yelled at, not to mention the fact that he obviously didn't trust them. Whenever he was in the house, he would always seek out a small dark room or closet. John had seen some of the things he wrote and drew, and the kid was morbid. That however wasn't John's priority, no his priority was that the kid was smart, a genius if John said so himself. The kid turned 8 years old just about Four month's ago, give or take maybe a few weeks or days, yet he could already read, understand and apply, advanced psychology, engineering, architecture, sociology, and criminology. John was going to take the kid in, no matter what, he however had to check if the kid was an ability user. at the end of april John took Edgar to the new military base stationed in richmond. The government had, had new military bases stationed in every city. They were used to identify abilities and ability users, as well as test the limits of said abilities. As it turned ok Edgar did have an ability, and a very powerful and useful one at that. After Edgar admitted to having an ability, the officers at the station were quick to get it tested, and it was perfect, an ability that could suck anyone into a fabricated reality, created though a piece of text, it didn't matter on what or where it was written, all it had to be was a somewhat coherent piece of text and it would work, it didn't matter if it was written as a book or poem. There didn't necessarily have to be a way out either, of course you could create one or two if you'd like but it wasn't a condition. You could choose rather if the person died in the story they would also die in real life or not. The conditions of the world was completely up to the user. The best part was it didn't have to be the user that was Holding or useing it, it could be used by anyone, as long as the owner of the ability allowed it.
* Frances Allan adored Edgar, sure he was quiet and if she was being honest quite morbid, but that didn't matter to her, no all that mattered was that Edgar finally met her husbands standards, so of course she would try her hardest to get to know him. So from the 13th of march to the 30th of april, Frances did all she could to get to know the boy, she would ask him if she could see some of what he wrote and drew, though his works were quite scary and macabre, and sent a chill down her spine, they were also quite good and she tried her best to encourge him to continue his passions. She would purchase him all kinds of books, she took note that Edgars favorites seem to be (to no one's surprise) the horror and mystery novels she got him, and to her surprise he also seemed to favor some of the sci-fi, fantasy, and comedy books. Of the educational books he favored those about psychology, criminology, sociology, engineering, and architecture, she had brought him some more advanced books on these subjects because Edgar was far above most when it came to Intelligence. She gleefully took note of which subjects and genre's Edgar seemed to like and dislike, it was worth every penny spent to see that gleeful look on his face and shine in his eyes, as he read. When Frances noticed Edgar take an interest in her piano she was delighted, this was an activity they could do together, a chance to get closer to her soon-to-be son. And so Frances sat Edgar down and began teaching him how to play piano, and oh did Edgar love it, he looked so gleeful as he sat there, hands sliding over the over the keys of the piano, clumsily at first but over time he began getting the hang of it. Frances almost cried when her sweet little Edgar first hugged her. Oh but then John came with the terrible news that Edgar was to be drafted and trained to go to war, she protested, of course but they said his ability was to good to just let go.
* Frances had always wanted children, but she was unfortunately infertile, this however didn't stop her from wanting kids. So they had become a foster family so she could adopt one of the kids, they had, had two before Edgar, but they didn't meet his standard, if he had to have a kid it at least had to be smart. John didn't care about kids outside of getting an heir, however being a foster parent also, allowed him to scout out the children, for possible ability users. When Edgar was sent to be trained Frances did the best she could to make sure he was comfortable, she sent him letters every other day, she also made sure to send him books, notepads, and pencils, to make sure he could still read, draw, and write, she even visited him.
* and so on May 1st Edgar was sent out to train for the military. They started with basic combat and strenght training, but it quickly got harder after that. He was taught how to assemble and disassemble a sniper in under half a minute, he was taught where to hit a target depending on the situation, he was taught how to walk around without making a sound, he was taught everything he needed to go to war. Edgar was to be assigned a special forces unit. Edgar had already went though the basic training, now it was time for special forces training. On the 19th of January 1996 Edgar officially became a part of the special forces.
* his favorite weapons were guns and knives, he even started a knife collection which he still has to this day. He never goes outside without a knife, sometimes even a gun.
* After the great war finished Edgar was about 13 to 15 years old. while Edgar was still a part of the special forces after the war, he was a lot more focused on his education. It was very easy to catch up and go beyond people his age, mostly because he was already far above people his age when he was 8 years old. Edgar of course went to a military highschool where he might have been a bit of a troublemaker, okay who am i kidding he had no respect for authority. Other students would pay for him to do their homework. If someone annoyed him it was very likely that he would pull some kind of prank on them, the worst part is he always got away with it. Edgar has anxiety, but one thing he takes pride in is his intelligence. When Edgar becomes comfortable with a group he can become kind of unhinged, he also has people pleaser tendencies when he really cares about someone, he is just very afraid of losing them.
* Edgar left the military to become a detective in June 2007, which would make him a college drop out because he was attending West Point at the time. Edgar did very well as a detective, he was the departements best. Then Ranpo came along, when Ranpo solved that case the answer was on the tip of Edgar's tongue, but Ranpo was faster in his deduction. Edgar left the police and became a part of the guild, he needed to beat Ranpo, he couldn't just torture him with a horror book or something like that, no he needed to outsmart him. Found Karl along the way.
* dates. William Henry Leonard Poe was born on the 30th of january in 1985. Edgar Allan Poe was born on the 19th of january in 1987. Rosalie Mackenzie Poe was born on the 8th of december 1988. Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe died of tuberculosis on the 8th of december 1994. David Poe, Jr. Was declared missing on the 22nd of June 1994 by some bar buddies. David Poe, Jr. Died on the 15th of June 1994. Edgar Allan Poe was taken in by the Allans in March 13th 1995, and was taken to the military to check if he was an ability user on the 30th of April 1995. Edgar Allan Poe began military training on the 1st of May 1995. Edgar began in the millitary on the 19th of January 1996. Edgar Allan Poe left the millitary to work as a detective on the 1st of June in 2007. Edgar Allan Poe burned the poam his father died in, on the 15th of June 2007.
* Edgar's opinion on other members of the guild: F. Scott Fitzgerald: as long as he doesn't stick his nose in his business then he's fine. Doesn't like how uncaring he is towards the poor, but does like how attentive he is towards his wife. Herman Melville: he likes him. He respects his devotion to his ship and the guild, as well as his competence. H. P. Lovecraft: he likes him. He thinks he is great inspiration for writing, and has followed him around a few times. If Edgar wasn't focused on other things, then maybe he would have tried to make friends with him. Overall he finds him very fascinating, as he does most things macabre. James L: doesn't really care. John Steinbeck: He likes him. He respects his devotion to his family and cunning. He likes how easygoing he is, it makes him easier to be in a room with. Lucy M. Montgomery: he likes her well enough. He doesn't pity her out of respect. Lousia May Alcott: as a fellow wallflower he likes her. He hasn't really talked with her a lot, since she mostly only talks to fitzgerald, but if he hadn't been busy planning revenge he would have probably tried to befriend her. Margaret Mitchell: he knows she has a softer side, yet he still doesn't really care for her all that much, mostly finding her irritating for how often and how often she underestimates her opponents(I personally like Margaret btw, she is awesome). Mark twain: he actually really likes him, he finds him cheerful and appreciates his effort into trying to befriend him, maybe if he hadn't been so focused on revenge he would have agreed. Thinks his marksmanship is very good. Once showed him his knife and gun collection. Nathaniel Hawthorne: he finds him obnoxious.
* Edgars mansion has a bunch of different hidden passege ways, rooms, and mechanisms where he hides all kinds of stuff, most notably his knife and gun collections.
* Edgar has some mental illnesses here is a list: anxiety, depression, PTSD, Autism. He May or May not have BDP or Bipolar, seriously i don't know if he does, and if he does which one.
* Edgar is actually really hard to scare, outside of his social anxiety and slight fear of abandoment and judgement, and trust issues… and heights, it is really hard to scare him, like you could put on the scariest horror movie or book and he will only find it fascinating. He loves horror and all, but he is really hard to scare, and he is so fucking macabre. He is also really hard to disgust, like he has watched the entire disturbing movie iceberg and more, this man can watch slow torture puck chamber and all it's sequels with a straight face, he HAS watch the entire franchise with a straight face.
* He pranks people that annoy him, and people that he dislikes. Hawthorne has been the victem of so many pranks by now(it is a non-confrontational way of getting revenge, and this man holds grudges)
* He is a beast online, i mean what introverted person isn't?
* He is actually really good at psycho analysing people
* He doesn't trust his own judgement when it comes to Ranpo, he knows he is smart but Ranpo beat him and he doesn't want to face that judgement again.
* Edgar is not oblivious, he can see Ranpo's feelings for him crystal clear. He just doesn't know how to feel about it, he's just afraid of vulnerability, especially to a guy he hates(d?), plus he himself has some very conflicting feelings about him.
* Edgar has been practising piano because of his adoptive mother.
* Frances is dead
* Edgar is jealous of Ranpo, no it was not love, now he is jealous of Ranpo but also inlove with him and he doesn't know what to do or how to feel.
* Edgar can see when Ranpo is trying to hide his emotions, he knows Ranpo is afraid, he doesn't bring attention to it however, but he knows, and he will help in whatever way he can
*Edgar doesn't just have a lot of IQ, he also has a lot of EQ.
*Edgar doesn’t have a lot of connections in his life so he is very attached to Ranpo, to the point it is unhealthy. When he hated him his anger and spite was what got him through the day. He still uses some of that anger and spite to get through the day.
*how Edgar looked though out his life. When he still lived with his biological parents he mostly wore oversized sweaters, and worn shorts or jeans, plus his og hairstyle. When he began living with his adoptive parents he wore more casual formal clothes, plus his og hairstyle, however Frances would sometimes try to get at least one side of it behind his ears. When he was in the military he wore more tactical clothing, and he had a military haircut. When he got out of the military he grew his hair back out and started wearing lighter clothes.
Feel free to use. This isn't theory this is headcanon, just to make that clear.

What's your HCs for any of the Rusty Lakes Characters as I'm curious since David is genderqueer to you 👀
Bi Dale "men want me, women want me, I have a fear of fish"
Lesbian Rose and Elizabeth
Gay Leonard
I have a shitposty HC that Dale listens to music you wouldn't expect him to like you'd walk into his office, he has headphones on, and he's playing metal music or something like:
I also have a HC about the Eilander siblings in general that due to being on an isolated island most their lives, they learn how to "function" through absorbing media. For example: their ideas of what romance is comes from movies, novels, etc.
David talks to animals like he's a Disney princess
Jakob has a business degree. How else is he such a successful businessman xD
Jakob and Aldous are so married and Harvey is their son
Elizabeth became a singer because her mother used to sing to her and Jakob when they were younger
David is a magician because it's something that fits his character and Asura. Rabbits represent youth, David is childish. Magic is something "childish" too it's the opposite of most of what you see other characters do in the game like Dale being a detective (evidence and facts), Rose, and the Vanderbooms in general being into alchemy (science) and then there's David... With Magic.
Birthday never happened the way Dale remembers it happening. The real version of the events that happened is probably only known to David
Maybe David was framed for the birthday massacre
Dale and David knew each other before Birthday, perhaps in another life cycle
So much more but I don't wanna drag this on for too long 😭😭

In Our Favor
Part 395
McCoy
Scotty tensed in McCoy’s arms, and McCoy himself held his breath.
Slowly he disentangled an arm from Scotty and leaned backwards to grab the chirping device.
“Hello?” he said as he rolled back towards Scotty then sat up. Beside him Scotty pushed himself up to sitting as well. His face showed his anxiety.
“Hello Leonard,” David answered.
“Father,” he said with relief in his voice.
“Where are you now son?” David asked.
“We went home, Scotty and me. Well, Jaylah and Aporal too.”
“A good idea.” They heard David let out a deep breath. “Sural is still locked up.”
McCoy looked at his husband as he made a small noise.
“Are we sure?” he asked the king. “Scotty knows what he saw.”
“Yes Leonard. Starfleet connected me to his prison, and the commander in charge showed me a live feed.”
Relief went through McCoy, yet he tensed again barely a second later.
“Do you trust what they showed you really was live?” He knew he must sound petulant, but this concerned Scotty.
David paused as if remembering what his son must be thinking.
“I spoke to him.”
“Ye did?” burst out of Scotty. He looked at McCoy in surprise.
“I did, and I am satisfied he is still locked up safely.”
Anxiousness flooded McCoy with an icy chill. Who had Scotty seen then? Once again he was convinced he had seen one of their enemies; what would this do to him?
Quietly McCoy looked over.
“I saw him,” Scotty whispered in a small voice, face pale.
Cora’s question came back to the prince then.
“We have to find out about his family! Scotty knows what he saw, and if it wasn’t Sural, then it had to be someone close, family, to look so much like him!”
“I’ve done what I can do from here Leonard,” the king said gently. “Anything Starfleet may have learned about Sural— he could have lied to them about his family, his home, any of those things. And— I hate to say it— but in a crowded place such as a club with lights going, creating shadows…”
Scotty’s face began to twist in anger so McCoy spoke quickly.
“We’ll contact security here and see what they can do. Get video from the club or, or, I don’t know!”
“I don’t mean any harm,” David said, still gently. “But we’ve been down this path—”
“I know,” McCoy said haughtily. “But I trust Scotty. Thank you for helping us with what you could.”
“Leonard.” The king was sharp. “I will forgive your tone because I know you are upset. I hope this will all turn out to be a misunderstanding again. For now, get some rest and I will speak with you again soon.”
Short goodbyes were said and McCoy set the comm back down on the bedside table, perhaps harder than he meant to.
“We’re on our own,” Scotty said softly.
McCoy wrapped his arm around Scotty’s shoulders and pulled him tight to his chest.
“No we aren’t. We have our friends and we have all of Starfleet. We’ll go to security in the morning and tell them. They can investigate, find out what they can from the club, from Sural.”
Scotty murmured something but it was muffled against McCoy’s shirt.
“Let’s get to bed darlin’. Then it’ll be morning sooner and we can get this sorted,” McCoy said.
Part 396
Scotty
He was back. He was back on the Romulan ship, running through the many corridors, breathing frantically. This place was just too big and he didn't know his way around. The risk of a dead end waiting around every bend was very high, but he had to at least try to escape.
Scotty could hear them. Footsteps following him. They were only half as fast as his own and yet they seemed to be getting closer and closer.
The Scotsman let out a pained cry as a sound rang out and a shot hit his left leg. He staggered and had to cling to the wall for a moment, but when he heard a voice behind him, he limped on as fast as he could.
"Give up, human. You can't get away from me."
Oh yes, he could! Scotty gritted his teeth and stifled a sob. His leg hurt just so badly, but he wouldn't give up. Never!
The next corridor looked exactly like the previous one, but Scotty could feel that he was getting closer to his point of destination. The exit must be very close and Leonard would be waiting for him there. He was sure.
A cold laugh rang out and a moment later another pain shot through Scotty's body. This time it was the other leg and the Scotsman fell straight to the ground.
Finally, he could no longer hold back his tears. With a tear-streaked face, he crawled along the corridor, slowly pulling himself forward. He couldn't stop! He had to escape! He had to get to Leonard!
The footsteps and laughter came closer and closer and suddenly a foot crashed down on his back, pinning him to the floor.
Scotty tried to move forward as best he could, but as hard as he tried, he couldn't move.
"N-nae, nae, please," he pleaded miserably, shaking his head as he glanced up over his shoulder and saw the barrel of a phaser.
But Sural just grinned, playing with the trigger.
"There's no escape this time. I will destroy you. You and your prince. And no one will stop me."
Scotty's eyes widened and he opened his mouth, wanting to plead for his life, but he didn't get that chance.
A shot rang out. Then everything turned black.
Scotty cried out as he woke up from his sleep and sat upright in bed. He barely noticed a few hot tears streaming down his cheeks. However, what he did notice was a familiar pair of arms wrapped around him, holding him close and a warm voice reassuring him.
"Shh, it's all right. It's okay, leannan. We're safe. Everything's fine."
Leonard. Leonard was with him. They were in their room. They were at the academy. They were unharmed.
"Do you want a pill?"
It took Scotty a moment to understand what his husband meant, then he nodded.
Leonard had the pills — the ones that Dr. Boyce had prescribed for them after their abduction — on his side of the bed. Due to his fear of flying, he had been the one who had needed the sedatives over the last few weeks. But now it was different.
Scotty was the one with the greater fear. Scotty was the one whose nightmares were back. And he would take all the help he could get.

The Best Album Per Year for Sixty Years
No-one asked for it, of course, but I do like making lists, so here's me pondering what have been the best Long Players in the album artform the past 60 years. I originally tried to keep it to just one per year, but many years that proved impossible: when listing multiple albums I have tried ranking them with the one I feel narrowly edges out the others first, and I use lower case to indicate an album that is not at the same level as others on the list but was the best I've heard from that time.

So I feel like it's time to spread a little Jewish love, old school style!
Here's a little bit of history that I just found out about while researching something else!
Spotlight: Jewish Fighters!
From left: Bummy Davis and the wrestlers Max Krauser and Martin Levy.
Ever hear of a “Knak” (A hard punch), a “Shtaysl” (uppercut), and “Der gubernator” (Jabbing one’s thumb into a foe’s rib cage)? These are all Yiddish terms used for moves in boxing and wrestling.
Jews, who had been denied most labor jobs and limited to desk work or small jobs, were often seen as scrawny, small, and weak. The intense studious life of studying Torah and furthering their education also left them stereotyped as intellectual book nerds in glasses that would be knocked over in a gentle breeze.
What people don't think of is street smart men with fists of steel.
“[...] but there was always an element of the working class that was tough and street smart and worked with their hands and fought with their hands.” -(Eddy Portnoy, creating of the exhibit at Yivo Institute)
Let’s head back to the 1930s and 1940s when Jewish immigration from Russia and Europe was reaching a peak. Families fled the growing violence and antisemitism and their children faced a new world and the need to assimilate into this new culture.
Boxing became an escape that grew among the Jewish community and quickly gained popularity.
"Zionist and political organizations sponsored boxing and wrestling clubs, and after World War II there were boxing clubs in the refugee camps set up by the Allies."
Several became big names that became well known in most homes.
Jews became the dominating nationality in professional prizefighting during the 30s and 40s. There were 26 Jewish world champions!
Many wore the Star of David on their robes and trunks as a way to represent their Jewish heritage and defy Antisemitism.
Al "Bummy" Davis, born Albert Abraham Davidoff was born in Brooklyn. As a kid, he kept lookout for his father, who sold whiskey during prohibition.
He turned into one of the toughest kids in his area. While his brothers fell into work with the local gang, not even the gang would mess with him.
The name 'Bummy' was actually from his Hebrew nickname "Vroomeleh" given to him by his mother (diminutive of Avrum) that was picked up as Vroomy by his family and friends. Davis apparently was not really a fan of it.
He was known as one of the most powerful left hooks in boxing history and won many of his matches with a total knockout hit.
Max Krauser was born in Poland.
His family owned a tannery where he helped haul the animal skins around.
He went to college and majored in science until he attended a wrestling match at his college.
Randomly jumping into the ring, he defeated the German heavyweight and decided to become a professional wrestler.
His mentor was Zishe Breibart (I'll do a piece on him later), a famous strongman that was also Jewish and a hero to millions.
He quickly became a renowned wrestler throughout Europe where he was the Heavyweight wrestling champion from 1935-1938 until the political atmosphere became too much. He moved to Australia then eventually the USA in 1939,
In America, he was known as "Iron-Head Krauser".
Benny Leonard, born and raised in a Jewish Ghetto in Lower East Side Manhattan and son of Russian immigrants, held the world lightweight championship for eight years from 1917-1925! He later turned his boxing career into a film career. ("The Evil Eye" 1920, and "Flying Fists" 1924-25).
Barney Ross (Dov-Ber Rasofsky) was the Son of a Talmudic scholar who barely escaped a pogrom in Belarus. Once in New York, his father was a Rabbi and owner of a vegetable shop in Chicago. Barney became a Talmudic scholar with the goal to teach. When his father was murdered in a robbery, his mother suffered a breakdown, and his younger siblings were placed in orphanages, Barney fell out of religious practice but never lost his Jewish pride.
Barney started running with tough crowds in the ghetto and got into street brawling and running with Al Capone himself!
With the rise of Nazism and Hitler, Barney took a stance against antisemitism and embraced the fact that he was becoming a well known representative of the Jewish community. His song that played when he entered the ring was "My Yiddishe Momma".
He became a world champion in three weight divisions. He was never knocked out and held his title against big time champions. His last match is quite the famous one where he refused to stop the fight despite the fact that he was taking a severe pounding. He refused to go down and was determined to leave the ring on his own feet. He retired with 72 wins, 22 of them were won by knockout!
He joined the Marines in 1942 and despite being told to stay on US soil as a celebrity, he insisted on going into combat where he was awarded the Silver Star.
(Check out his biography- Barney Ross: The Life of a Jewish Fighter, by Douglas Century and his autobiography No Man Stands Alone.)
Martin "The Blimp" Levy was a wrestler that weighed an astonishing 600 Lbs!
He started his early career in a sideshow as the "Fat Man" at Coney Island!
Despite his massive size, he was astonishingly agile. He is known as one of the first "Giants" of wrestling and helped pave the way for others of his size and character.
Rafael Halperin, the son of a Viennese Ultra-Orthodox Rabbi came into the picture when his family fled to Mandatory Palestine to escape antisemitism and violence.
Rafael took up weightlifting and karate along with his intensive Talmudic studies. He moved to the US and became a renowned wrestler that was known for his Talmudic riddles and for his refusal to fight on the Sabbath.
Halperin also helped organize Israel's first Mr. Israel bodybuilders competition.
He wore a blue and white wrestling outfit with the Star of David across it. In America, he fought under the name "Mr. Israel" and "The Rasslin' Rabbi".
In Israel, he is credited with popularizing professional wrestling.
After he retired from wrestling, he became a Rabbi.
