The Devil's Plan, Review (Netflix, 2023)

I was curious of this show upon reading tweets about it. I'm only familiar with Ha Seok-jin as I've watched him in kdramas (and a few variety shows where he guested in).

I actually didn't expect that the games would be so well-crafted, and how it shows some of the human survival insticts in such shows. I do wish that some of the earlier main matches were individual games before it proceeds to somehow an alliance/team game by the end. I was kind of bummed that potential ace players were eliminated due to some bad lucks 🤧 and individual matches can really show each of the players possible strengths.

Overall, I enjoyed the shows as there are really mindblowing twists in it. It was kind of reminiscent of Liar Game (which I enjoyed before!!). Really looking forward if there would be news of a second season. Hoping for a much more intense strategies, alliances, and a lil bit of drama.

Congrats to Ha Seokjin!!! It was honestly well deserved after seeing how he played the game, fairly and logically. (And i dont know if it's because I was slightly bias for knowing him prior to the show, but I really did root for him hahaha)

Salute also to ORBIT, for also giving his best to all games, especially for stepping forward. His strategy may not have worked well but yea. His poker play was truly great!

To other casts also! I was on team Seokjin-Seewon-Dongjae-Guillaume who somehow ended up like an underdog team in the show.

“I’ll 'have mercy' on you once you tell me the truth, Jay Walker.” The younger glared, moving his hand to scratch alongside the other’s underarms.

The lightning ninja squawked helplessly, hugging his middles as he shook his head back and forth, “I AHAM! I SWAHAH— squeak! I SWEAR IHIHI’M TEHELLING THEHE— squeak! TRUHUTH— squeak MY GAHAHAD!!” The older whined.

Now, as you know, dear reader…today marked the official start of October.

And a couple weeks before to celebrate, Lloyd bought a bunch of candy bags for two wonderful people…

…Him and himself.

So consider the blonde’s absolute surprise when all of his candy bags…mysteriously vanished from his secret hidden pantry…

…Guess it wasn’t so secret now but still!!!

“PlahEASE!! Ihi dihihidn’t taHAHAKE yohour DUHUMB CAHahandy staHASH!!” The brunette squealed, pushing on his brother’s chest in a small attempt to get him to stop tickling him.

The smaller teen just rolled his eyes, pinching the other’s hips and in result, Jay squealed once more as he flailed his arms around, banging his feet on the ground.

The freckled face teen held his brother’s wrists, “L-LLOHOYD!!”

“Hm~?” The Green ninja hummed.

“DUHUDE PLEHAHEASE!!”

“'Please' what~?” The youngest asked smugly, “Pleeeease keep tickling you?” 

“NOHOH!!” The brown haired boy yelled, “NAHAH— squeal! NOHO!! LLOHOYD COHOHOME OHAN!! NOHO F-FREEHEEAKING TEHEHEASING!!” 

“I’m not teasing you.” Lloyd giggled as he scratched alongside his brother’s ribs, “I’m just asking you a question, big bro.” The blondie said as he abruptly scribbled his fingers on Jay’s stomach. 

“LLOHOHOYD!!”

“Yeeeeees~?” 

“CAHAN YOHOU FUHUCKING STOHOP?!”

The hazel eyed teen rolled his eyes once more as he poked the older’s lower stomach rapidly, “Not until you tell me where my candy is.”

The freckled faced teen whined through his laughter once more, shaking his head back and forth like a ball during a tenis match, “BuhUT— GAH! I-Ihi dohoHAH! IHI dunnohoh whehere IHAT IHIHIS!!” 

“Suuuuuure you don’t.” The Green ninja hummed sarcastically, “And I’m the Grinch.” 

“Yohou suHUHURE ahare buhuilt LIHIKE hihim— WAHAIT! WAHAIT NAHA— squeal!! NO! NONOHOH! I’M SAHARRY!” The lightning ninja cried, his eyes widening like saucers as his younger brother effortlessly held his wrists above his head and started nibbling on his neck.

Not to mention, the youngest of the ninja team had legit fangs that was further putting Jay into a giggly blob.

The brunette squealed and screamed as happy tears started to form in his eyed, “I SAHAID IHI WAHAS SOHORRY! IHIHI SAHAID IHI WAHAS SAHAHARRY!!!”

“Oh, I heard your apology…I just don’t care for it.” The Green cladded teen giggled. 

“COHOME OHAN!! I-IHI’LL DOOHOO AHAHANYTHING!!”

“Tell me where my candy is.” 

“FOHOR THEHEHE M-MIHILLIONTH TIHIME!! IHI DUHU— squeak! GAHASH NAHAHAAAAAA!!!” The Blue ninja howled as the other dug his thumbs into his hips as he ruthlessly nibbled his neck. 

The older bucked and flailed and squawked continously, trying to make his brother loosen his grip just a little…but his attempts to stop the blondie just ended in complete and utter vain as the other continued to torture him. 

I mean, in all honesty, what was happening right now was a genuine crime. 

Originally before all of this nonsense happened, Jay was chilling in his room, playing Roblox Piggy (fire ass game btw) but was interrupted as his gremlin of a brother basically bolted into his room, bombarding him with questions.

That’s breaking and entering.

Then the hazel eyed freak of a teenager dragged the elder by the collar and threw him in the living room!

That’s assualt and battery.

And if the freckled faced teen continued to let the shortest of the ninja group carry on with his henious crimes…Jay would be a dead man.

And if you were unaware…dead men can’t sue.

“IHI squeal! IHI. DOHOHON’T. KNOHOHOW!!” The elder said for probably the millionth time today. 

The younger just shook his head, tsking like some wannabe anime character, “Oh don’t give me that, Bluey. When I was little you used to steal my candy aaaaaaall the time.” 

“HNFFAHAHACK! YOHOU squeal STIHILL AHARE LITTLE!”

“YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!!” The other shouted, scribbling his nails in the crook of Jay’s neck, “Just tell me where you hid my candy and you might be spared.”

“'MIHIHIGHT'?!”

“Well, as much as I hate to admit it: your laugh is genuinley cute and funny…I can’t get enough of it~!”

“SCREHEHEHEW OHOHOHAFF!!!” The freckle faced teen hollered as he banged his heels on the carpet living room floor, his face starting to change color to a beet red, “YOHOU BRAHAHAT! STAHAP squeal THIHIS INSTANT OHOR YOU’LL BE IHIHIN A squeak WORLD OHOHOF HURT!”

“Oh really?” The blonde said, completely un-phased by the threat. 

“YEHES REEHEEHEEALLY!!”

“Are you suuuure?”

“YES!”

“Positivley sure?”

“YEHEHES!!”

“Absolutely 100% sure?”

“YEHES— N-NOHOH! NOHOHO!!! IHI’M NAHAT SUHURE!” Jay cackled as Lloyd went back to squishing his sides. “But you just said yeeees~!” The youngest taunted, “C'mon~! Show me this 'world of hurt' you were referring to.” 

Almost immediately, the dark blue cladded teen used his powers to lightly send electric buzzes to the kid’s sides, “G-GYAH! Hey! Hehey! No! Noho yohou— EEP! StaHAP!” The Green ninja squealed but stubbornly still continued to tickle his older brother.

He would get his candy back if it was the last thing he did…

“That’s it!” Lloyd shouted, getting up and wrapping both of Jay’s feet in a headlock with both of his arms.

The curly haired teen gulped, bracing himself as his younger brother was about to absolutely murder him…

…Which honestly would not look great on the hazel eyed teen’s crime record but who was Jay to judge? 

“I-Ihihis squeak ihat squeal toohoo squeak l-lahate to sahay I’m squeak sohohorry squeal again…?”

“How’d you know~?” The blondie grinned as he ruthlessly scribbled his fingers over the other’s feet and the other in question went BALLISTIC. The lightning sparks coming from the lightning ninja’s hands were shooting anywhere and everywhere and they would be lucky if the power didn’t go out by how much sparks were flying… 

“NAHAHAH OHO SQUEAK SHIHIHAT!!! SHITSHITSHIT— SQUEAL GAHAHASH NOHOHO—!!!” The brunette screamed. 

“Ihi’m barely touching you—”

“SHUHUT UP!! SHUHUHUT. UHUP!!!”

“Uno reverse, big bro…you’re the one hollering and tollering like a five year old.” 

“BEEHEEHECAUSE YOH—GYAHAH! OHO JEEHEEZ NO! WHYHY THEHEHEHERE?!” The elder loudly cackled as happy tears rolled down his cheeks.

“Bad spot, huh~?” 

“SHUHUHUT UP— SQUEAK AHALREHEADY!!” 

“Is that seriously the only remark you can come up with? 'Shut up?'” The blonde smugly said as he tickled the middle arch of Jay’s foot, “Cmon~! You can do better than that, Jay-Jay…”

“OKAHAHAY!! OKAHAHAY STAHAHAP!! STAAAAHAHAP!!!” 

“I’ll stop once you show me where you hid my sweets!” The hazel eyed teen huffed, “And speaking of sweets…maybe I should go to this sweet spot over here~!” He said as he tickled underneath Jay’s toes. 

“NAHAHAH SQUEAL N-NOOOOOHOHOHOH!!!” 

“Should we help…?” Cole said to Kai as he munched on one of Lloyd’s bag of Skittles, leaning on the living room doorway and casually watching the youngest completely murder the Lightning ninja. “Nah. He’ll be fine.” The red cladded teen shrugged carelessly, leaning on the doorway as well. 

“Besides, this is entertaining to watch…want a gummy bear?” Kai offered. 

“Don’t mind if I do.” Cole grinned, taking a handful of gummy bears from the bag the other was holding and plopped them into his mouth.

Alright, I finally got my hands on this full ... presscon? cast reaction? Whatever.

I already shared some screenshots from this before (by some people on Twitter) and after finally watching the full version, I fell like I need to share the rest of the season 2 world building and character lores mentioned and discussed to you guys in here (and also major spoilers for season 3)

P.S. I could be wrong on some of the points here (either misinterpreting or not paying enough attention), so please correct me if I do in the reply section

Season 2

I'm still confused af on this line : "he killed his original body as well as his personality, eventually turning into the twisted monster that he is now". Like so, does it refer to Sang-won killing his original body in season 2 or is it about monster Sang-won killing the real Sang-won?

I still don't get this line too, so interpret it however you want : "The child covered in black?" "This is where what's remaining of Sang-won disappears, uncovering the child."

Chan-young was a baseball player. Ye-seul was one of the cheerleaders

Oh, apparently monsterization does still happened inside the stadium. That's why there's a regular daily checking. Anyone showing symptoms will be out in the isolation place (yeah that place where they put the sick mom in). Some lived, some died inside the isolation => might be why Chief Ji keeping her monster son secluded somewhere deep inside the stadium

Hyun-su cut Yi-kyung's daughter hair the same style as him, hence how they're being similar appearance wise

The live action crew is adapting Shotgun Boy into Netflix Sweet Home

Yi-kyung blames herself for how her child turned out to be with her monster-turning power

Yi-kyung's inability to give affection or even touched her child stems from the fact that monsters are created from human desires, so she didn't want her child to have desire (awfully familiar with a particular old man *side glance*)

The "real Jung Wui-myeong" is one of the scientists. Sang-won (or monster Sang-won depending how you interpret the earlier points) took his identity and used it as his own, probably to separate himself from his old human self

Season 3 rough summary

Family drama : Nam Sang-won starts a bunch of trouble (this bitch) in order to create a world he dreams of. There are family reunions and conflicts between spouses. He also meets his child (uh oh). They fight for her custody. This custody case didn't need a court (fuck, oh come on 😂). Yi-kyung wouldn't just talk it out. She'd fight until one is dead

Sibling drama : Eun-yu will meet Eun-hyeok again, but I'm not sure it'll make her happy

Second male lead struggle : Chan-yeong faces even more hardships as the story progresses. But even then, he gives up a lot just to protect Eun-yu. He starts to understand the monsters more. There's a lot on his mind as the story goes on.

More monster Hyun-su : Hyun-su lets go of himself and lets out the monster. But the monster doesn't just do its thing. He reads Hyun-su's mind and acts as he wants.

Another Hyun-su and Yi-kyung interaction : And later on, he interacts with Yi-kyung as well. The emotion it brings also felt huge. In the narration, he tells Eun-yu how much pain Yi-kyung is in and that he has to stop it all himself. So I'm sure Hyun-su sparked a change in Yi-kyung's heart. That'll continue in Season 3.

Ganke M (smirking): We won't get caught, and I recognize that second pair of 'special' Jordans anywhere. Trust me- I got a fool-proof plan this time. 1) wait until it gets dark at half time; 2) Cause a distraction; 3) Slip away and parkour to the top

Miles G (shaking his head and smiling): You and your crazy ideas...10 bucks says we get caught

Ganke M (smiling wider): 10 bucks says we make it up and back and no one notices

Miles G: Bet

Teacher: Alright esteemed students, as you have already observed we are now halfway towards a total solar eclipse! Notice how the sky is now darkening and the glorious rays of the sun are being overlayed just like in chapter 2 of our textbook 'Wonders of the Galaxy Volume II'....

Ned (in front of Ganke and Miles, messing with another student): What a nerd, I bet you like this stuff and want to read the entire textbook again don't ya freak?

Peter (visibly annoyed through his glasses): Stop messing with me and bother someone else

Ned (raising his eyebrows then facing him and poking a finger onto his shirt): What are you going to do about it shortie?

Welp if this was how Peter was going to finally stand up to Ned, he can thank Ganke later

[Ganke shoves Peter into Ned and then grabs Miles G's hand as he slips into the back of the crowd as a commotion starts]

Several students: Fight! Fight! Fight!

[Miles G and Ganke M slip away behind part of the building where no one can see them as Miles G activates his hover shoes]

Miles G (shaking his head and laughing): Hahah you we're wrong for that

Ganke M (smiling and shrugging): Hey Peter gets to finally stand up for himself, and we get a better view!

Miles G (opening his arms to him): I swear you're crazy sometimes- I dunno what to do with you

Ganke M (getting into his arms bridal style with a wide smile): Hold me and watch the eclipse with me?

Miles G (looking down at him and smirking): Yeah...okay mastermind

[Miles G crouches down before launching off the concrete and wall jumping expertly from platform to wall until he reaches the roof and sets Ganke down]

Miles G (putting on the eclipse glasses): Welp this is it

Ganke M (with the glasses on, putting an arm around Miles): Heck yeah now this is a view. Here it comes!

[Ganke M and Miles G both look up and watch as the moon covers the sun, and a new aura surrounds the dark moon]

Miles G (a smile showing his dimples): Heh...nice

Ganke M (smiling the same way): Now that's prime time

Miles G (snaking an arm around Ganke's side): Hah you nerd

Ganke M (looking down at him with a smile): If you think I'm nerdy now- wait till we see this together again in 2044

Miles G (looking up at him with a shy look and a smirk): Hah- I look forward to it...nerd

just wanted to share that stranger/secret forest s1, s2, and dongjae spin-off are 3 dramas i hold super dear to my heart.

these dramas aren't my first exposure to kdramas (and im very grateful they are, bc idt many can match that the standards set). but the way stranger sucked me in right from the start (im a huge thriller fan so. makes sense.) was insane.

the way i binged the whole s1, digested it, and then binged the whole of s2,, i think i was possessed LOL. to think that i only discovered this gem of a universe was through the little ad on tvn on dongjae. (thank you dongjae. my pookie ❤️)

i actually have no idea how to coherently organise my thoughts, bc i think a lot of what i have rn is just feelings. i love this universe so much and really, i can't wait for s3, s4, and even s5. (mr cho seungwoo promised an s5, so i will wait for an s5.)

i know this has been said 473773474833 times by the kavetham/haikaveh shippers and probably even nonshippers, but i'll say it again. I finally finished the genshin summer event and did the little after quest in sumeru and.....every time kaveh is sneaking around trying not to be noticed coming out of alhaithams house it's just such a gay vibe. he's basically screaming "I can't be caught being gay in a homophobic society!" even if that's not what the game writers are *actually* saying. that's just how it comes off and they can't make it come off any other way. with hoyo's gay history, it makes me wonder if it's on purpose and all a cover-up to have a technically different reason for it so they can get away with it lmao but we will never know.
