That historian moment when you're writing about an Empire that fell into decline after a golden age because the new Emperor...

...was only interested in his entertainments...

...engaged in disproportionate cruelties towards those he felt disrespected him...

....let the social, political, and economic elites of the Empire run wild and destroy any and all legal regulations against their corruption and self-aggrandizement...

...allowed those aristocrats to privatize imperial lands for their own estates, increasing their wealth and power while hollowing out the economic backbone of the empire...

...and in the end, the Empire went from one of the great powers in the region to a near rump-state in less than a generation.

And that moment when the new Emperor came to power?

'25.

1025, to be exact.

I'm talking about the Byzantine Empire exactly a thousand years ago.

In 1024, the Empire had a standing army of 300,000 and a surplus in the Treasury.

By 1040, it had less than 50,000, the majority of them foreign mercenaries, and the coinage was debased, with the economy collapsing after a succession of idiot Emperors (one of whom might have been an actual con artist, in that he was reputed to have been a coin forger prior to his elevation). The main power had been, for most of the prior decade, a palace eunuch who had been maneuvering his brothers into positions of authority where he puppeted them.

And by 1080, the Empire had lost 2/3rds of its territory from 1025.

Pardon me while I go scream a bit...

The erasure of uchiha contribution to konoha’s founding makes me so sad because that village was as much madara’s dream as it was hashirama’s and his part in it deserves to be remembered. How does izuna get erased from everything when he was one of the strongest people of that time, an equal to Tobirama, and his death was the literal catalyst to the peace treaty and the village’s creation?

#I get it was like a over a 100 years ago but it’s such a aignificant time period for shinobi I can’t imagine they wouldn’t learn about it #in academy #those are the creators of the modern era!! the revolutionaries who put an end to thousands of children dying!!#hashimada had powers which was considered godlike and unattainable and they used it to create the first place where shinobi were safe #yes the villages are incredibly flawed and children still die #but their existence is a hundred times better than anothing from the warring states period #you can’t end a status quo in one lifetime and I absolutely get madara’s frustration with that fact #because when your progressivism goes so much further than anything realistically possible to implement #and you know you or even your grandchildren will never see the vision that you’re fighting for because change takes time #that frustration is absolutely maddening #naruto #naruto shippuden #madara uchiha #uchiha izuna #hashirama senju #senju tobirama #founders era #naruto founders #uchiha things #uchiha clan

#ffxiv #ffxiv gpose #miqomarch #miqomarch2025 #dawntrail spoilers #arsay nun #g'raha tia #wolgraha #Arsay's dialogue from the loss prompt touched on this but this is the part of the living memory that she finds the most fucked up #the fact that everyone elses memories get scrubbed of the deceased #For Arsay -who has a trauma related fear of being forgotten- the everkeep system is maybe the worse thing for her to learn about #because like even if she has been guilty of avoiding thinking about her dead friends/parents/enemies because it comes bundled with feelings #she doesn't out right forget them. those memories of them will always be there. there's a difference between avoidance and forgetting.#Usually Arsay is very good at keeping her body language under control. especially in a group. but something like this is too upsetting #And even tho Rahas instinct is to calm her down but he knows better to draw any further attention to her #but ooh my god is she stewing at this. literally crossing her arms as tight as she can to hold herself in. her tail is more puffed up too #hard to tell cause shes already so fluffy but the base of her tail looks thicker than usual #Shes so angry. disgusted. and beyond sad for the peoples whose existence she feels has been erased #and of course she cant help but put her herself in the shoes of those people and consider what if every one just forgot about her one day #and that makes her even more upset #had to do some shifting around of npc placements for this lmao #they move the chair out for graha at the front in the cutscene only so I couldn't put him in the same spot and have him floating in the air #also it just makes more sense for him to sit next to Arsay and makes the comic framing so much easier

I offer the frankly hilarious scenario of zenos and estinien having to work together (probably because of tataru) and a little bit of headcanon-ing I have in regards to the one main issue they run in to when theyre a duo.

They're off to see the wizard! The wonderful wizard of Oz!!

I actually started this last month and then got burnt out and didn't finish it until now but whatever I FINISHED IT!! I finished watching Scooby Doo and Guess Who last month and there's a Wizard of Oz parody in the last episode and I just knew I had to do fanart, a legal requirement if you will.

I kept Shaggy, Fred and Velma's costumes from the episode the same but I thought Daphne and Scooby deserved costumes that were a bit more personal too. But who would the wizard in question be?? Well don't worry because I drew art for that too!!

I just can't stop thinking about a proper direct to DVD scooby WOZ parody film and how Van Ghoul should be the wizard, like in my head it's perfect.

i know this is a long haul video, but it's also an extremely good breakdown of the myth of self-sustainability homesteading and how you should never believe everything you see online or in books. also a little bit about how joel salatin suck ass, actually.

this shit is not easy and it doesn't make money. i am only allowed to do this because my spouse is a software engineer in the video game industry. don't fall for the promise of being able to pay your way via a small farm. the only thing small-scale homesteading gives you is a sense of accomplishment, a connection to your food, and at least one joint injury that you will need to go to physical therapy for. i will never talk anyone out of wanting to grow their own food, because i think it's an extremely good and important thing to do, but i will always encourage you to do it within your means with a realistic vision of that future.

#ag talk #also why i think rabbits are good for family meat production #they are very inexpensive compared to other livestock #they still have a cost! but it's less than even chickens and they don't need a ton of space to live in like chickens do #it's also so nice to hear from a homesteader who isn't a religious vaguely right-wing traditional family values guy #those are...shockingly few and far between online :/#i stopped watching most homesteading youtubers because of that #it was a little too christian and a little too prosperity doctrine even when religion wasn't really spoken about much #the way they talk about self-sustainability really rubbed me the wrong way as someone raised in an extremely culty fundie denomination #i had a similar journey to morgan here with the discovering people like joel salatin and justin rhodes #and being very inspired and learning a lot from them. they were valuable to me #but now i know that a lot of it is just....not how it works

#we trade pain for wisdom #whatever the case may be if it’s you or if it’s me growth and change and learning from the mistakes are all that we can do #to add to it didn’t deserve to know me like that* or appreciate my time etc #but throughout all the hardship I’ve been through with people that I didn’t work out well with (familyfriends romantic relationships)#ive learned a lot throughout my life from people and myself included #I’m grateful and appreciative of the wisdom I’ve gained and how I’ve overcame it but sad & angry at the thought of remembrance #I know what I’m saying is vague and this post isn’t about a specific person but just looking at it as a whole #people who genuinely like you and care about you want the best for you and will want to make things work no matter what #people who value you don’t treat you like shit people who value you show appreciation for you #people who love you let you know just like people who don’t they all let you know #but there’s been some instances where I’ve been the one who made mistakes and caused issues and things of that nature #I’ve taken those mistakes and learn from them and have grown from them since they happened #that’s the point of life learning experiencing understanding and growing #with or without you I will be fine :) I’m happy whether you’re in or out of my life #that statement alone if I had been told that before I would’ve cried my eyes out but now I’m like I’m fine with or without I don’t need #anyone or anything but if you want to tag along that’s fine if you don’t want to that’s also fine the freedom is there #it’s freeing in my heart to say that tbh #I know my worth and what I deserve I’m not going to settle for less

The words trip over themselves and he scrambles back a step, face heated. She gawks a moment, and then - laughter. For a split second it nearly mortifies him, but then that feeling passes and it is a balm - a comfort.

How long has it been since he last heard her laugh?

"You've been playing it so cool this whole time, it's good to see you're still the same Alphi in there." She says it teasingly light-hearted, but he notes the relief in her tone.

A relief he shares.

Somehow her words are more comforting than he could have imagined. Even if it comes at the cost of his embarrassment, he is still... him.
