Why Bodycon Dresses are Trending in India
What are Bodycon Dresses?
Bodycon is short for "body-conscious," and it refers to a style of dress that is designed to fit closely to the body, highlighting the wearer's figure. Bodycon dresses are characterized by their tight, form-fitting silhouette, which typically hugs the curves from the bust down to the hemline. These dresses are often made from stretchy materials like spandex, Lycra, or blended fabrics that allow for a snug yet comfortable fit.
Key Features of Bodycon Dresses
Figure-Hugging Fit: The primary characteristic of a bodycon dress is its tight fit that contours the body. It emphasizes the natural shape and curves of the wearer.
Stretchy Fabrics: To achieve the desired snug fit, bodycon dresses are usually made from stretchy, elastic materials. Common fabrics include spandex, Lycra, and jersey blends.
Variety of Lengths: Bodycon dresses come in various lengths, including mini, midi, and maxi. The choice of length can affect the overall look and appropriateness for different occasions.
Simple Silhouettes: Most bodycon dresses have a simple, sleek silhouette without excessive embellishments. This allows the dress to focus on the body's shape rather than intricate details.
Versatility: Bodycon dresses can be styled for a range of occasions, from casual outings to formal events. They can be paired with different accessories, footwear, and outerwear to create diverse looks.
History and Evolution
The bodycon dress gained popularity in the 1980s, a decade known for its bold and daring fashion choices. Designers like Azzedine Alaïa, often referred to as the "King of Cling," played a significant role in popularizing this style. Alaïa's designs celebrated the female form, and his bodycon dresses became iconic.
In the 2000s, bodycon dresses experienced a resurgence thanks to celebrities and fashion influencers who embraced and showcased this style. The bodycon dress has since become a staple in contemporary fashion, known for its timeless appeal and versatility.
Bodycon Dresses in India
Fashion trends are ever-evolving, and one style that has recently taken India by storm is the bodycon dress. Characterized by its figure-hugging fit, this dress has become a staple in many wardrobes across the country. Here's a look at why bodycon dresses are trending in India.
1. Cultural Evolution and Global Influence
India has always been a melting pot of cultures, and with the advent of globalization, fashion trends from around the world have seamlessly integrated into Indian fashion. Bodycon dresses, popularized by Western celebrities and fashion icons, have found their way into the Indian fashion scene. Indian celebrities and influencers have also played a significant role in popularizing this trend by sporting bodycon dresses at events, on social media, and in movies.
2. Empowerment and Body Positivity
The bodycon dress is more than just a piece of clothing; it's a statement of confidence and empowerment. In recent years, there has been a significant shift towards body positivity and self-love in India. The bodycon dress, with its form-fitting design, encourages this celebration of one's natural shape, making it a preferred choice for many.
3. Versatility and Style
One of the key reasons for the popularity of bodycon dresses is their versatility. These dresses can be styled in numerous ways to suit various occasions. Whether it's a casual day out, a formal event, or a night out with friends, a bodycon dress can be effortlessly styled to fit the occasion. Pairing them with different accessories, jackets, and footwear can transform the look from chic and casual to elegant and sophisticated.
4. Influence of Bollywood and Social Media
Bollywood has always been a major trendsetter in India. When popular actresses and fashion influencers start wearing bodycon dresses, it quickly becomes a trend. Additionally, social media platforms like Instagram and Pinterest have made it easier for fashion trends to spread. Fashion influencers and bloggers showcase different ways to style bodycon dresses, making them more appealing to a wider audience.
5. Urbanization and Changing Lifestyles
With rapid urbanization and the rise of cosmopolitan cities, there has been a shift in lifestyle and fashion preferences. Urban Indian women, who are more exposed to global fashion trends, are increasingly opting for modern and stylish clothing like bodycon dresses. The convenience of online shopping has also made it easier for them to access a wide range of bodycon dresses from both Indian and international brands.
6. Comfort and Fabric Innovation
Contrary to popular belief, bodycon dresses can be quite comfortable. Advances in fabric technology have led to the creation of stretchy, breathable, and comfortable materials that make these dresses suitable for the Indian climate. Brands are focusing on creating bodycon dresses that not only look good but also feel good to wear.
7. Increased Fitness Awareness
There has been a significant increase in fitness awareness and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in India. As more people adopt healthier lifestyles, they are more confident in flaunting their well-toned bodies. Bodycon dresses, which accentuate the body's natural curves, are becoming a preferred choice for many fitness enthusiasts.
When to Wear a Bodycon Dress
Casual Outings: Pair a bodycon dress with sneakers and a denim jacket for a relaxed yet chic look.
Work or Business Casual: Opt for a midi bodycon dress with a blazer and heeled sandals for a polished and professional appearance.
Evening Events: Choose a bodycon dress in a luxurious fabric like velvet or satin, accessorize with statement jewelry, and complete the look with high heels for a glamorous evening outfit.
Parties and Celebrations: A mini bodycon dress with bold prints or sequins can be a fun and eye-catching choice for parties.
Tips for Wearing Bodycon Dresses
Choose the Right Undergarments: Seamless or shapewear undergarments can help create a smooth silhouette and enhance comfort.
Accessorize Thoughtfully: Balance the simplicity of a bodycon dress with carefully chosen accessories. A statement necklace, earrings, or a stylish belt can add personality to the outfit.
Layer for Versatility: Layering a bodycon dress with a cardigan, blazer, or even a long coat can add depth and dimension to the look while making it suitable for different weather conditions.
Confidence is Key: The bodycon dress is all about embracing and celebrating your body. Wear it with confidence and own your unique style.
The rise of bodycon dresses in India is a testament to the country's evolving fashion landscape. Influenced by global trends, cultural shifts, and the growing emphasis on body positivity, these dresses have found a special place in the wardrobes of many Indian women. As fashion continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how bodycon dresses are styled and embraced in the future.

So, I just had a dream about Mr. Puzzles (SMG4). It's very weird, so brace yourself. - Mr. Puzzles/Reader Fanfiction I guess??? created by: HazelMist's Unconscious
Um, so…I just had a strange dream with Mr. Puzzles. Specifically, a dream where he announced the new PuzzleVision merch. It was a 1960s style commercial…kind of, I guess. I have barely watched any 1960s commercials, so I'll just say It was black and white, except for Mr. Puzzles smile. and the commercial was animated.
So In the start of the dream, I wake up. and see In my notifications, that SMG4 uploaded a video. titled "NEW PUZZLEVISION MERCH!" I was extremely excited and hoped they had made a plushie of Mr. Puzzles. so I clicked on it, and uh...this Is how the commercial was.
So, he Is first walking down a lonely street, and see's someone leaning on a pole. uh, that person was Y/N... And they were wearing a plain T shirt, with oversized baggy pants. Not very fitting for the 1960s, but 🤷♀️. Mr. Puzzles noticed them, and walk right up to them and said
"Well, hello there my dear~! I'm your friend Mr. Puzzles, and- Oh god, what the hell are you wearing. Your outfit Is so boring, It makes an Average Joe look special."
Uh…Couldn't tell If my unconscious was insulting me or not, because I enjoy wearing plain T shirts and baggy pants. Then Y/N looked down in embarrassment. Then Mr. Puzzles grabbed their hand, and kept walking. but Mr. Puzzles was so tall, that Y/N was almost tripping. but then he stopped, and looked right at Y/N, and suggested
"Hey, I've got the solution to your problem! Why don't you buy some of the latest PuzzleVision merchandise? Your fashion sense would be amazingly blinding! Why not try on our Mario's Mysteries T shirt? Blue's clues and Mario fans would be confused by your stunning (not bootleg…) shirt, and you would attract many PuzzleVision fans!"
The shirt was basically the Mario's Mysteries thumbnail, Then he handed Y/N the shirt, and they responded "W-Wha..? but I don't even watch-" Then Mr. Puzzles cut them off
"Oh, and If you didn't like Mario's Mysteries, we have T shirts of our other episodes too! It would normally be 300.000.00$, but since you are special to me~ I'll make a discount! It's now only 30.00$!"
The shirts were also the thumbnail of the episodes. Then he threw them In a dressing room, and Y/N came out with the Once upon an SMG4 T shirt on. Mr Puzzles clapped his hands excitedly and said "Oh my dear! You look absolutely gorgeous! And If you get cold with only a T shirt, Buy our Mr. Puzzles Hoodie! It's 50.00$!"
The hoodie was a picture of Mr. Puzzles sitting in a chair, with his legs crossed. with a smug face. then afterwards, he said to them
"And I will be going soon, but If you want to keep me with you forever, then you should get…"
Then he pulled out a Mr Puzzles plushie, except It looked kinda weird. He didn't have his bowler hat, and he didn't have his color bar smile, It was just a straight line for a mouth. Anyways, he continued
"This adorable version of me, In plush form! Take It with you everywhere you go! Or If you don't want to get it dirty, just keep It on your shelf! But If you aren't the plushie collector type, Here Is an awesome figurine!"
It was a figurine of Mr. Puzzles doing a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure esque pose, with his maniacal face. and then he showed another figurine.
"Oh, and here Is another action figure of….that one inkling guy!"
The figurine barely looked like Oneshot wren though, and It wasn't even an Inkling. It looked like someone tried to recreate Wren In Plotagon. and didn't Western Spaghetti already have It's own merch? I kind of forgot what else Mr. Puzzles said, but he showed some Mr Puzzles Pins and Keychains that were both In chibi style. they were really cute! not like that Oneshot Wren figure…And after showing all the merch, He said
"Now, Let's skip time to a few weeks, and see how much these items have affected you!"
And then there was the Spongebob time card that said "2000 years later" and we are back with Mr Puzzles and Y/N, Except he is holding a microphone now, and asks them
"So, how much have my great merch helped you In life?" and then Y/N says something like "Nothing much has changed-"
and then the commercial rewinds, and goes back to when Mr. Puzzles asked that question. and then Y/N says "Oh, I feel much more happier now! with my amazing T shirts, I have so many more friends, and everyone wants to hang out with me! and I am enjoying your company, In plush form! Thank you, Mr. Puzzles!"
Then Mr. Puzzles responded "You're welcome! Have a great day, my darling!
Then, the commercial cuts to a blank screen, showcasing all the merch. and some strange announcer voice, that was definitely not Mr. Puzzles, their voice was very deep. says something like… "Go buy the new PuzzleVision Merch In smg4.store today!"
And then the video finished, and I was very confused of what I just saw. but then I might have waken up.
and uhhh…I think thats all I remember. If you made It this far, thanks for reading me ramble about some nonsensical dream I had last night. I probably dreamt It because I am TERRIBLY DESPERATE to have a Mr. Puzzles plushie. If I feel like It, I might try to make an animatic based on this dream. I might post It on Youtube. But I dunno, would you actually want to see that?

Imperial Japan is a great example of a non-Western nation adopting Western practices out of a worldview you could say relates to white supremacy. For instance, they reorganized their nobility to be more like European aristocracies because that was seen as more fashionable and cool, although keep in mind that kinna thing is hardly unique, there was a very long time when the nobility of England were Francophiles and mostly spoke French, and Japan itself already had a long history of ripping off China.
Something more specific is that they might be said to have criminalized homosexuality based on Western influence. However, while copying and looking good to the West did play a large role in what was done about it, Japan, like Rome, was not any kind of LGBT paradise, and there was already a mounting backlash against homosexual practices within samurai culture.
Furthermore, Ming China banned homosexuality in the 1600s entirely on their own. When the Qing legalized it in 1907, it was due to Western influenced attempts to "modernize". To be clear, I'm not saying Western influence made China better - for as much deserved shit as I give the PRC they call that period the Century of Humiliation for very good reason. The Qing may have been a mess at the best of times, but foreign powers (including, you know, Japan) were basically stomping all over them every chance they got. Only a few years after the latest attempt at "modernization" they finally collapsed into decades long civil war.
However, it can hardly be said that the West has been going around exporting queerphobia. That always existed in Asia. That was always a thing.
To return to Imperial Japan, it has to be kept in mind that they were primarily wowed by Western culture insofar as it came with concrete upgrades on the tech tree. This led them to adopt certain Western cultural traits like styles of dress, yes, but mostly they wanted the big fucking boats with giant fuck off cannons, and maybe some of those guns you load on Sunday and shoot all week. While IJ held the West to be "superior" in terms of physical might, and thus their ability to shape the world, every possible opportunity was taken to assert Japanese culture to the point of being a right-wing nationalist death cult that makes MAGA look like little babies. Everything they took from Western culture, their attitude was always - subtly at first, more openly contemptuous as war with the US loomed - "anything you can do, we can do better".
That includes the racism and colonialism. IJ saw what the West and they decided that's what they wanted for themselves. Literally it was like "the West has all these great ideas about dominating cultural and racial inferiors, but we think we prefer it'd be us on top, actually". At this point it's like, did they internalize white supremacy? Or did they maybe see some bullies beating a kid up and decide that beating kids up looked fun?
As W. E. B. De Bois wrote:
So far as Japan was fighting against color caste and striving against the domination of Asia by Europeans, she was absolutely right. But so far as she tried to substitute for Europeans an Asiatic caste system under a ‘superior’ Japanese race, and for the domination and exploitation of the peasants of Asia by Japanese trusts and industrialists, she was offering Asia no acceptable exchange for Western exploitation.
So I have alllll these problems with the idea that white supremacy is to blame for like...literally every bad thing ever on the planet. And I just don't get how it isn't erasing the individual histories of other countries to reduce them to poor little meow meows brainwashed into evil by Western hegemony.

#Fc89ac (Cupid's Parasite)
Heyo! So...I might or might not be addicted to Cupid's Parasite...
Nah but really; Y'ALL! I've started playing it recently and my goodness Ryuki is the best! (Granted as of writing this I'll have likely finished the game if not most of it so it's up in the air on who'll truly be my favorite) His route was so fun and addictive and just- YESH! I wanted to write something for him and Lynette and that's exactly what I did lols. I hope you like it! :D
Summary: Ryuki's struggling with his latest design and what color to make it. Lynette helps through unconventional ways.
#fc8eac…#ffc1cc…#ff6ec7…
Lynette scrolled through her search history with a small laugh, shaking her head. Since she fell in love with the fashion designer, it seemed like this was all she ever looked up. Not that she minded it of course; she loved her boyfriend with her entire heart- even if she had to look up several of the colors he mentioned on a daily basis.
Recently it seemed he was stuck on the color pink- his sketchbook filled to the brim with various dresses and skirt designs with various notes and hexadecimals. Around one particular dress several of the numbers were crossed out and re-written, a sign this particular garment was driving Ryuki insane. “No, that’s not it…it’s too muted.”
Another hexadecimal. Lynette tapped it into her phone to find “Soft Pink”. It was lovely. “I like it. It’s pretty.”
“Yes, but it doesn’t really go with the theme of the outfit.” Ryuki scowled down at the paper, narrowing his eyes. “Everything’s either too muted or too bright- I need something in the middle.”
Rolling onto her stomach, Lynette used her arms as a pillow as she peeked at his work. Unsurprisingly, the dress was gorgeous- flowy and fun with a mix of both western and japanese elements incorporated. “Wow, it’s so beautiful!”
“You haven’t been truly wowed yet- wait until you see what it’ll look like in person.” A touch of pride entered Ryuki’s voice as he puffed, starting to smile. Then that smile dropped as he looked at his endless bouts of notes. “If we ever get there, that is.”
Not good. Lynette sat up and clapped her hands. “Break time! Maybe you need to step back and revisit it with some fresh eyes?”
Ryuki looked ready to argue, but he gave in with a sigh after meeting her raised brow. “Maybe.” Closing the sketchbook, he moved everything aside and gave a small stretch. “But just for five minutes- then I’m going right back i-EH!”
“Fifthteen minutes. I demand a proper break.” Lynette argued, poking him in the ribs. “We’re having green tea and snacks- maybe even a walk.” She poked him again and again, watching him twitch and scrunch beneath her finger. “We can hunt down a crepe stand. They’re usually out this time of year.”
“H-How is tha-ahat gonna gehet done in fi-fiihfthteen mi-inutes?” Ryuki yelped between jabs, grabbing at her wrists as he thought down giggles. “Stop thahat!”
“Well, we’ll just have to take as long as we need, won’t we?” She teased, bringing her other hand in when he refused to release her. Scooting closer, she quickly scribbled into his open side, making him yelp and fall backwards. “You’ve been working on your designs all morning. Five minutes away isn’t gonna be enough.”
“Ihiihiht’ll be pleaahhanty! Geahhaha, Lynaehehehehhette!” Ryuki didn’t have the strength to remain sitting up, crashing unceremoniously against the pillows as he batted at her hands. “Cuhuhhuhut it ohoohoohohut, I’m wohoohhoohrking!”
“Noooo!” She cried back in glee, giggling up a storm as she threw herself across his torso. Her fingers danced up and down his sides, kneading here and there to make him arch and yelp. “I’ll never stop! I’ll keep tickling you until you agree to take a break!”
“Thahahaht’s nohohohoht hahahappehehehening! Geahhahahaha!” Ryuki squeaked when her fingers dug into his highest ribs, making him arch within a sudden boost of mirth. “Dohohohohoohn’t nohohohohohohohohoo! Aheahahahahahha Lhihihihihihihiynehehehehehhehehette!”
“Oo, is this a bad spot?” She cooed at him, enjoying how pink his cheeks got. “It must be with how much you’re blushing! I could listen to you laugh all day long, cutie!”
“Shuhuhuhuht uuuhuhuhp! Iihihihi’m nohoohohohot cuhuuhuhuhte!” He argued through his laughter, trying his best to squeeze her hands out. “Thahahaht’s it- cohoohme here!” With a sudden burst of strength, he reached out and grabbed onto Lynette, flipping their positions. “Now you get what’s com-ehehehehe, nohohohoho!”
“Huh? What was that? What do I get?” She teased, wasting no time as she grabbed at his ribs once more. “You gotta move faster than this, Ryuki-kun! Hehehe!”
Unfortunately for her, Lynette’s reign of mischief was quickly ended.
“AH! Aheahhahahahha nohohoohohohoho!” She squealed when Ryuki managed to grab her side, squeezing rapidly. “Nohohoohoho fahahahhair, nohoohoho fahahhair yohoohohu son of ahahah-”
“Goohoht you nohohow, yoohohu-GAH DOHOOHN’T!”
“TAHHAKE THAHAHT!”
“BRIIHIHINHG IT OHOHON!”
Their “battle” continued on as they rolled around in the bed, sheets crinkling and pillows flying as they grabbed and prodded at any and every tickle spot they could find on eachother. By the end of it all, they were gasping for air, cheeks flushed and hair a mess as they laid side by side in their messy bedding.
“Sohoohoho who wohohohn?” Lynette gasped out, hair falling free from its braid like a halo of sakura blossoms. Ryuki reached out, brushing her bangs back with the gentlest of touches.
“Mehehehe, obvihihihously.” He snorted, making her smile. She was especially radiant today- her natural hue the softest of pinks. It reminded him of…
“#fc89ac.” He mused out loud, then blinked. “That’s it-”
Lynette watched him sit up, scrambling for his sketchbook. While he did so, she quietly pulled out her phone, searching up the number.
Tickle me pink. She barely stifled a laugh as the coincidence of it all.
“Yep, that’s it. That’s exactly what shade I was looking for.” Ryuki nodded, something relaxed entering his expression as he circled the hexadecimal with pride. “You’re truly brilliant. Thanks for all your help, Lynette.”
“Aww, you’re too sweet.” She giggled as she sat up, tucking her phone away. “Can I have a crepe as my reward? That tickle fight made me hungry.”
Ryuki blinked before bursting into laughter, unable to hide his amused smile. “You’re too cute! God- I love you so much.”
She’s heard him say it before so many times now, and the effect was still all the same. Her cheeks warmed and her heart raced at the words, making her entire being feel soft and tingly. “I love you too.”
The crepes they got soon after were extra tasty.
Thanks for reading!

west
prologue
pairing: Joel Miller x nb!character
word count: 2.7k
genre: period western/horror
summary: Dakota Territory, 1879. Joel Miller, a widower, lives on the outskirts of Deadwood with his brother and daughter. After travelling north from Texas two years earlier, they've put down roots in the community. Tommy came for the gold rush, and Joel came to keep an eye on Tommy. The end of the world arrives piece by piece, and then all at once.
warnings: glaring historical inaccuracies, canon typical violence, allusions to a suicide attempt, essentially just the opening of the show/game but set in 1879 with some bits adjusted, the horrors of being a person in the 1800s, nb love interest is essentially a reader self-insert but is named (tho won't appear till the next chapter), it will be a slowwwww burn.
a/n: Ok, a funny thing that didn't come up in my research till I was ninety percent thru the outline and halfway thru the chapter but had independently decided on 1879 as the setting -- Deadwood actually burned down on September 26, 1879. Figured it was serendipitous. Happy Birthday, Joel! 🫠
The day the world ended, the sun rose bright across the valley. Autumn was just starting to emerge and dust motes appeared suspended in the bright sunbeams, forested wilderness surrounding the town of Deadwood. The leaves weren't changed, not fully, but here and there you could find a red tree amongst the green ones, and you knew they'd follow soon.
Joel was exhausted. His head ached. His bones ached. He could already feel the stiffness in his muscles from yesterday's work, and today would be no better.
The first few cries of the rooster hadn't done so much as stir him, but now as morning truly broke, he could smell mouth-watering aromas wafting up from below, heard the bustling in his kitchen and his belly rumbled, waking him up right quick.
He scrunched his face up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, and went over to the basin to splash cool water on his face. He stared at his reflection in his glass. Another year older. Another strand of silver in his hair. Thirty six. He'd made it to thirty six.
He pulled a shirt from his drawer and frowned. It was soft, cotton, and one of his favorites, but he was sure this one was torn at the shoulder, left to waste away in the oft forgotten mending basket. He shook it out and peered at it–sure enough, it had been torn, but now it was mended with fine, careful stitches.
Sarah. It must've been.
That girl was busy herself, but it warmed him, that she'd taken the time to mend her old pa's shirts without him ever having to ask.
He dresses quickly, tucking in his mended shirt, buttoning his trousers, adjusting his suspenders. He wasn't a vain man, but he takes pride in his work, and his mama always told him "It ain't about vanity, Joel. You take yourself and your appearance serious, others will too."
He grew up with little, but his mama was an accomplished seamstress. Her mending was impeccable, and any time she found a discarded bit of fabric, she'd bring it back to life and make it twice as pretty as she found it. Joel reckoned she was the best dressed woman in all of Texas. She collected issues of Good Housekeeping and Harper's, taking account of all the latest fashions. She built corsets and cages and all the ladies would flock to her to do them up just as pretty.
Joel combed back his hair. Stared in the mirror for just a moment longer, lost in his memories. Nodded, and stepped downstairs.
"Pa!" Sarah grinned at him as he entered the kitchen, "Lookin' mighty fine this morning."
She pulled him in and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
"Thank you, baby girl," he grinned back, "You makin' us breakfast?"
"Yep!" She nods, and hands him a plate. Drop biscuits, a little burnt, swimming in gravy, a cup of wild berries on the side, and a hot cup of coffee.
He took a deep breath, inhaling the spiraling tendrils of coffee vapour and let out a delighted hum. "You spoil me, kiddo."
"'Course," she nodded, and took a big bite of her own biscuit.
"Uncle Tommy home?" Joel asked, and Sarah shook her head, a couple of biscuit crumbs scattering around her, "Nah, he went out early today. Said he wanted to get done with his work early so he can celebrate your birthday."
Joel raised an eyebrow. "Celebrate my birthday?" he scoffs, "Stop by the saloon or lose all his money at cards and still make it on time to dinner is more like it."
He took one last gulp of his coffee and placed the mug down.
"We'll have a nice night," Sarah assured him, "An' I told Uncle Tommy he best be here in time for supper or else. And I'm makin' you a cake."
"Okay, baby. You'd best be off to school, now. I'll get these dishes taken care of."
"You sure?" She asked.
"Positive."
Sarah nodded, pulled off her apron, tossed a few of her favorite books in her satchel and tore out the door.
Joel went off for his work. Only two years they'd been in the Black Hills, Joel, Sarah and Tommy, but they'd made a nice little home. They came up after Sarah's mama passed, and Tommy heard about the gold rush. He insisted it was all because of the rush he wanted to come, but Sarah always suspected he came because he knew Joel would follow, and her pa needed a change of scenery. He'd almost faded into a ghost himself, sitting round their empty old house, nearly lost in memories. Grief had a way of consuming him.
So they'd traveled North, left Texas behind for good, and made a new life for themselves.
The schoolhouse had been around since before the Millers arrived in Deadwood, but there hadn't been a teacher till Spring of this year. Joel was glad Sarah finally had a chance for a proper education. Smart as a whip, that one, and hungry for knowledge. He couldn't wait to see what she was gonna do.
There weren't a lot of kids, or even that many women in the community outside of the brothels, but the Millers had established themselves. Tommy was something of a wild card, getting into bar fights more often than Joel would prefer, but he'd never gotten on the wrong side of a quick draw, and he had enough charm he managed to get out of most of the trouble he found himself in. And Joel–Joel was reliable. Whether he was fixing someone's step, or making sure to haul that extra meat back after a hunt to ensure one of Sarah's friends would have enough to eat, he could be depended on.
The day the world ended, Joel saddled up Delphine, his dapple grey, and mounted her, tools packed neatly in her panniers. Today, he'd be working on repairs at the general store. They rode from their home at the outskirts towards town.
As he approached, he slowed to a walk. Something felt off, like there was a tension about to snap. But no one was bleeding, and some days on the frontier that felt like a high enough bar to clear.
Along Main Street, he could hear strained voices.
"The telegraphs stopped coming-" He heard one man say.
"Problem with the wire?" Another asked.
The first man shook his head. "Naw, had some of my guys inspect it. Everything should be workin'. It just- it ain't."
"How long's it been going on?"
"Been five days now. Never seen it like this before."
"Ain't seen any coaches for weeks now, too. It's like the route just stopped altogether. Don't know how to get word to my folks back east about the new baby if we've got no mail and no telegraphs."
The day the world ended, Joel made it home by sunset, just in time to find Sarah plating up their dinner.
"Good day?" She asked, and he nodded.
"Yeah, got lots done. Next time you go by the general store, you'll see a door that swings smoothly on its hinges and brand new windowpanes."
"That's great, Pa!" she smiled. It warmed her to see his pride in his work.
"Uncle Tommy home yet?" Joel asked.
"No," Sarah frowned, "Thought he'd be back a couple hours ago, too. Guess you're right."
"Reckon he's lost track of time. Though- Huh, I didn't see him at the saloon when I rode by."
"There's always the cathouse?" Sarah suggested, and Joel snorted and shook his head. It wasn't an impossibility.
"Well-," Sarah paused, "There'll be cake waiting for him, but at least have your supper before it gets cold."
"Thank you baby," Joel smiled, took his plate from her, and dug in.
The night felt heavy, something in the atmosphere pressing like a weight through the world. All the food was eaten (besides a small plate left for Tommy) and the cake was cut, when the gunshots started outside.
Sarah started and Joel bolted upright, swinging around to grab the rifle by the door without a second thought.
"What's happening?" she asked.
Joel shook his head, crouching down by the window, pushing the curtains aside and peering through.
"I don't know, baby. Just stay calm, stay low. We're gonna be okay."
There was no one directly outside, but the gunshots continued, and the more Joel stared, the more he could see smoke rising from town.
"Looks like a fire," he told her, "Don't know what the shootin's about, though. And–" His eyes narrowed, heartbeat pounded. "We gotta block the door, baby, there's someone coming."
"Is it Uncle Tommy?" She asked, eyes wide and voice small.
"No, I don't think–" Joel had grabbed the heavy mahogany table by the legs and started tugging, but did a double take out the window. "Wait, you're right!"
It was Tommy, galloping towards their home on a mount Joel didn't recognize. Before Tommy was even a hundred feet away, Joel could hear him call out his name.
"Joel!" Tommy bellowed, "We gotta get outta here!"
Joel swung the door open and Tommy stumbled in.
"Somethin's happening," he wheezed, breaths coming quickly, panic etched across his face, running to the cabinet and filling his pack with ammo. A knife. Another revolver. "We gotta pack up anythin' we can't afford to lose. The town's on fire. There are these people, fuck, Joel, it's like they're the Devil's got 'em."
"Like the Devil's got 'em?" Joel asked, pulling two bags from pegs by the door. "The fuck you mean? You been on the shine again?" He turned to Sarah. "Start packin', baby. Clothes, medicine. Cash, too, you know the drawer?"
She nodded and ran upstairs, and Joel turned back to Tommy, fumbling through papers and photos, knowing he had no time for sentiment but couldn't bear to leave without trying to think of everything.
"They're fuckin' possessed," Tommy explained, "Won't listen to reason. It's a fuckin' mess in town. A few coaches came through today and there were men on it raving, saying some kinda devilry was coming through. They seemed crazy, so we just laughed. Didn't think much of it."
He shook his head and ran a palm down his face. That's when Joel noticed the blood on his sleeve.
"Jesus," Joel said, "You hurt?"
Tommy shook his head, confused, and then looked where Joel was looking and exhaled. "Naw," he exhaled, "That blood ain't mine."
"So what happened?"
"Well," Tommy continued, "An hour or so later we heard screaming. Turns out a couple folks who'd come in by train from down South a day or so ago, who weren't feelin' all that well, they'd been to the doctor and went crazy. Started twitchin'. Bitin'. Proper bitin' people. They got these things in their mouths, these weird fuckin' tendrils-"
Joel stared at him, a muscle in his jaw tensing.
"I know it sounds crazy, Joel, but something bad is fuckin' happening. Don't know what it is. All I know is people are tearing each other up. And we gotta get outta here."
Joel was silent a minute and then nodded, solemn.
"Okay." He took a deep breath. "We're gonna get outta here."
"We are," Tommy agreed, "But we both know the only way out is through town, and it's a shit show right now."
"Fuck," Joel hissed and looked out the window again, "Looks like the whole town is on fire."
"It is," Tommy nodded, "But we can avoid Main Street. Go to the outside, and around to the thoroughfare."
"Fine." Then Joel called upstairs, "We gotta go, baby!"
Sarah re-emerged, two bags packed full. "I got clothes for both of us. Money. Few other things."
"Thank you, baby."
They saddled up their horses, Tommy on his stolen mare, Joel and Sarah on Delphine.
Joel hated this, hated that they had to pass through town to pass by Deadwood and across into the Black Hills, but they were at the edge of the gulch. No way to go but through.
Before they rode, Joel cupped the back of Sarah's head with one hand, closed his eyes and pressed a kiss to her forehead. He nearly didn't, worried her pa would be embarrassing her. But he did. For the rest of his life, he was always glad that he did.
As they rode through flames, they saw the foundations of the place they called home begin to crumble. It was chaos. It was worse than Joel ever could have imagined. The town was engulfed in madness, men eating one another toppled over onto the dusty ground. Smoke choked them and made their eyes water as they rode through with cloths pressed to their mouths, trying to avoid the worst of it. There were a few folks who had built barricades and stood beyond them, guns aimed, trying to take down the most violent of the possessed. It was horrifying, their friends, colleagues, and neighbors engaged in a fight to the death. It was wrong wrong wrong and by God it was the end of the world.
They saw the younger Adlers torn to pieces, and the elder running on all fours as she tried to rip apart someone else.
"Hold onto me, baby," Joel said, pulling her in in an attempt to shield her from the bodies. She'd already gotten a glimpse and couldn't help but stare, and she stared for a moment before she felt nauseous. Then, she screwed up her eyes and held on tight.
They saw Jimmy's place in flames. The baker's. The saloon. There were women running from the brothel, still rouged and bright as they aimed their guns at the monsters around them.
Through side paths and shortcuts, down alleyways and in the gaps between houses, they rode desperately through Deadwood. The buildings Joel had helped erect and the repairs he'd completed in the past few years had given him an intricate knowledge of the settlement. They rode fast and sure, evading the devils that clutched at the air, reaching for their ankles as they rode by.
Makeshift barricades had been put up all along the outskirts of town. Each way they turned, there was no way through. They rode back and forth, crisscrossing the streets as they tried their best to pull away from the writhing bodies in the dirt.
It wasn't till they passed the very last buildings down Main Street, right by the edge of town, that they slowed.
The sheriff lay dead, a bullet right between his eyes, bleeding out on the dusty street corner. A circuit rider loomed ahead of him on his mount, hands resting on his shotgun that, slung over his shoulder. Blood drenched his forearms, spattered against his coat, so soaked it shone visible even against the heavy wool. There was a fear in his eyes, a terror that unsettled them.
When he saw the Millers, he straightened and raised the weapon.
"Preacher, let us through," Tommy said, and the homilist darted his eyes between the men.
"Can't let anyone past," the man said, "This here's the reckoning. No one's gonna escape the inevitable."
Tommy raised his revolver. "I ain't askin' again. Let us through."
The preacher steadied his shaking hands and aimed his shotgun "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up-"
It's hard to say who fired first.
In a split second, two gunshots rang out, fragmented echos of one another. The preacher fell. So did Joel and Sarah.
The bullet grazed through Joel's side, and he clutched at his abdomen, holding the wound.
"Joel-!" Tommy cried as he flung himself from his mount, the preacher dead and already forgotten.
Joel rolled over and crawled towards where Sarah lay. The bullet that had gone through Joel pierced her belly and she shook, blood spurting and pooling from the wound.
He tried to apply pressure, tried to slow the bleeding, but her screams and sobs stilled him.
"I'm sorry, baby," he cried, and she shook, eyes darting around, trying to focus and failing.
"Pa-," she croaked.
"It's okay, baby girl," he lied, "You're gonna be okay."
She exhaled in a final gurgling puff, blood spattering across her perfect face, and Joel howled.
She was gone, he knew it, but still he cradled her.
Tommy stroked her hair and wiped the blood off her cheek. Joel pressed his head to her chest and wept, horrible strangled heaves caught in each exhale.
The day the world ended, Joel's world ended, too.
They carried her body with them for miles, Joel holding her close even as he felt her begin to cool and stiffen. Time escaped them as they rode, and around sunrise, they found a creek with wildflowers blanketing the banks. A small herd of pronghorns leaped along the water.
Tommy dug a hole and Joel told her stories, rocking her back and forth in his arms. All the ones he could remember, that she loved so much when she was little. Told her to rest easy now, baby.
They lowered her into the ground, and Joel wept. Tommy assembled a small cairn at the head of her grave. Joel looked down at his mended shirt and realised it was ruined with blood. The last gift from his daughter, and he'd ruined it.
Joel embraced Tommy. Held his brother close and told him he loved him. Muttered something about needing a moment to himself and wandered off.
The day his world ended, Joel tried to follow her into the darkness. A gunshot rang out, echoing through the hills.
Tommy ran to the sound and found him, crumpled but very much alive. He held his big brother close, cloth pressed hard to his bleeding temple, brushing away his streaming tears as he cried himself, terrified to lose all of his remaining family in a single day.
The day the world ended, the last two Millers were covered in blood and filth and tears. All they had was each other, their horror and their fear.

mother knows best
They meet the heroes of their parent’s stories.
It’s not as bad as Evie has been anticipating.
Here’s the thing about being friends with the king: it provides a lot more than just friendship. Diplomatic immunity isn’t quite the word Evie would use to describe their new status, but there’s a sort of leeway that they get with adults now that Ben has shown that he’s willing to vouch for them, and none of the powerful, important, interesting families who need something from the young king would risk being too blatantly rude to his friends.
So. They meet the heroes from their parent’s stories, and it goes fine.
+
Evie smiles politely at Snow, who is technically her sister. In another world, they might have grown up together. Might have been friends, or at least acquaintances, trapped together in the same castles, avoiding the same woman together.
Or not.
“I read your latest piece in the historical fashion journal,” Evie says politely, over the dinner that has been arranged by her sister, so that they can meet one another in a common space with the least potential for problems to arise. It’s a nice restaurant, the sort that has tiny candles in fancy glass dishes on the table, and a separate menu just for wines. It’s nice enough that Evie is glad she wore her navy blue kitten heels, even though her feet are going to be aching where they’re tight on her heels later. “It was very well-written. I especially enjoyed the section on beadwork in the western kingdoms.”
Snow offers a faint smile. “Thank you. I appreciate it.”
Evie sits perfectly still. She’s been trained by her mother on how to be polite and unobtrusive during a formal dinner, and how to be sweet and desirable for a prince during a dinner date, but meeting her sister for their first real chance at getting to know each other isn’t quite either of those things, and she’s not sure how to proceed properly, aside from attempting more polite flattery and small talk.
It’s not polite to fidget with her utensils, no matter how much Evie would like something to do with her hands. Maybe she can sip her water, once it arrives. She’ll sip carefully, without messing up her lipstick.
“Your hair looks lovely,” Snow says, unexpectedly. “Blue suits you.”
Evie does not jump.
“Thank you,” she says instead, and keeps her hands out of her hair, which is indeed lovely. “It’s my natural color.”
Snow nods. “I remember. Grimhilde’s is the same way.”
Evie hasn’t seen her mother’s natural hair since she was a child. They’ve been careful to keep her pretty and perfect, just in case an unexpected chance with a royal family ever came up, even though she’s been doubly in exile for most of her teenage years. They put countless hours (approximately 20,344 hours, Evie’s brain supplies unhelpfully) into keeping her looking beautiful. More than that, if she counts the time spent brewing potions and sewing pretty dresses and educating herself in speech and literature and music and scheming, all so she could play the part of an Auradon Princess and eventually secure them a future off the isle they’d been cursed to live on.
So much time spent on Evie meant that there was less time left for Grimhilde, and instead of maintaining two heads of thick, wavy blue hair on a desolate island with limited hair products, her mother tied all of hers back under a thick, fashionable hood, and never let her daughter catch a glimpse of it aside from the very end of her braid when she pulled it out to trim.
Based on the glimpses, Evie would have sworn that her mother had darker hair than Evie herself does, closer to black than blue. It’s fascinating and nauseating all at the same time to think that maybe Evie looks like her, under the makeup and the spells and the enchantments designed to work without true magic, to keep her ageless and unwrinkled and beautiful despite the passage of time over the island.
Evie loves her mother.
Except for when she hates her, but that’s the nature of family, or so she’s been told.
She doesn’t—
It’s hard to know what family is supposed to be like when her only examples to follow are her mother, and the women in front of her.
“Thank you,” Evie says, and does not let her voice waver. “I’ve been told—well, I haven’t exactly been told that I look like her, but that’s because there’s not exactly a lot of people on the island who know what she used to look like.”
Snow White smiles, and her lips are as red as cherries, and her teeth are as white as snow, and her hair, when she brushes a loose strand back, is as dark and velvety as the night sky. “I don’t know either. She wasn’t very sentimental, I’m afraid. I spent most of my own childhood steering clear of her schemes to marry me off to the most advantageous bachelor. It didn’t leave me much time for staring at photographs of a stepmother that I begged my father not to marry. I assume you did much the same?”
Evie’s mother loves her.
“Not exactly.” Evie says, around lips that feel strange and numb. “She loved me.”
Evie’s mother loved her, and so she spent hours upon countless hours shaping her daughter into someone who could be loved in return. Someone who could be a mirror and reflect that love back on a man who could save them.
Evie also, critically, didn’t have anywhere to go outside of the castle that they shared. So there’s that. She couldn’t have steered clear, even if she’d wanted to.
“I’m surprised to hear that,” Snow says softly. “She was always such a strong personality. I didn’t think she’d be able to love a child the way she loved herself, but I suppose it’s different when it’s your own child.”
“I suppose so.” Evie agrees, because that’s one of the lessons her mother ingrained in her bones. Be polite, be proper, and don’t disagree with the adults, even if they’re wrong.
“Not that it’s your fault, of course. It’s not your fault that she loved you,” Snow says. It’s never Evie’s fault, because Evie is wicked and unlovable and only a villain like her mother could ever manage to care for her.
“It’s just, I’m surprised,” Evie’s stepsister continues. She’s watching Evie’s face and it’s too much, except for how there’s no other choice. There’s nothing to do but endure the endless beautiful stare of her stepsister’s shiny, beautiful eyes. “I didn’t think she was capable of love, not after what she did to me. I’m glad that she was able to care for you, after everything.”
Evie’s mouth is dry.
She’s been trained in speech since she was a child, the delusions of a mother convinced that her daughter would one day need to address a crowd of adoring subjects. She’s on the debate team now, and even when her arguments are weak, she can deliver them with such elegant phrasing that she sometimes wins anyway.
She has seen more blood than this woman in front of her will ever see, and she has survived her mother for sixteen years, and come out the other side alive.
She will not cower.
“Mother loved me.” Evie says, slowly. Slow and steady. Flawless Auradon diction, which she can emulate perfectly thanks to years of lessons under her mother’s less-than-gentle hand, instead of the muddier Isle accent that she hides. “I’m very sorry that she hurt you, but I am not her, and I’m not her to discuss her tonight. If she is all that you’re interested in talking about, it would be a better use of both of our time to attend dinner elsewhere. Separately.”
“Evie, no,” Snow begins, reaching out over the table. Her nails, Evie notices, are perfectly polished into natural almond shapes, and she’s wearing a slightly glossy peach polish. “No. I’m sorry. I want you to stay, really.”
Evie does not want to touch this woman’s hands.
“I should probably go home.” Evie demurs. “I have a lot of homework, and I really can’t afford to make a mistake on my next paper.”
“You could come home with me!” Snow offers, letting her hands sink back to the table. “I have a lovely library, and my husband, he’s a wonderful writer. He could help you with your assignment, and maybe somewhere more casual—“
Evie gives in to the urge to fix her hair, and brushes one of her trailing curls out of her face. “I don’t know what you want, but if it’s to hear about my mom, I can’t do that.”
“I want to meet you.” her stepsister lies. “The real you, not just the person you put on for the cameras. Please do stay. Come home with me.”
“I can’t,” Evie says, and it might be the most honest she’s been all night. “I really can’t.”
Snow White is lovely to a fault, and her dark eyes are shiny when she looks up at her stepsister. “You can.”
She can’t.
There’s too many memories that she’s not willing to touch here, in a nice restaurant with a sister she’s met one time. She’s got a paper to start working on when she gets home, and her schedule (written in blue ink on the first section of her daily planner, which is thick and smells only the faintest bit like mildew) only accounted for this dinner meeting taking two hours, and it’s at least thirty minutes back to Charmingdale, there and back again is more like an hour, and that’s if they spend no time eating, and while Evie could certainly afford to skip one meal, it’s not polite to say that in front of company who’s been so generous this far, and Snow didn’t just offer dinner, she offered help, which will only put her more behind schedule when she’ll have to redo the work later.
“I’m so sorry,” Evie says calmly, placing her hands back on her lap, away from her face and her hair and everything she’s inching to check. A princess doesn’t adjust her hair in polite company, and she might be a disgraced daughter of a queen-in-exile here in Auradon, but back home Evie was a princess, and she’s going to act as such. “I really do have a lot of homework tonight. It’s a very kind offer to bring me back to your castle, but if we’re not going to eat here I need to get back to school.”

Best Dress Jewelry Ideas for Modern Dresses
When it comes to fashion, choosing the right jewelry for your dress can elevate your look from ordinary to extraordinary. Whether you're getting ready for a casual outing, a day at the office, or a special event, here are some great jewelry ideas to pair with modern dresses.
1. Casual Day Outfits
Dress Style: Sundresses, casual shifts, and maxi dresses.
Jewelry Ideas:
- Simple Pendants: A delicate gold or silver pendant necklace adds a touch of elegance without overpowering the casual vibe of your outfit.
- Stackable Bracelets: Mix and match thin bracelets or bangles for a fun, laid-back look. You can play with different metals and textures.
- Stud Earrings: Keep it simple with small stud earrings. They add a bit of sparkle without being too flashy.
2. Work Attire
Dress Style: Sheath dresses, tailored dresses, and shirt dresses.
Jewelry Ideas:
- Statement Necklaces: A bold necklace can add personality to a simple sheath dress. Opt for geometric designs or chunky pieces.
- Elegant Watches: A sleek, stylish watch not only keeps you on time but also complements your professional look.
- Pearl Earrings: Classic and sophisticated, pearl earrings are perfect for a polished office outfit.
3. Evening Wear
Dress Style: Cocktail dresses, gowns, and little black dresses.
Jewelry Ideas:
- Chandelier Earrings: These dramatic earrings draw attention to your face and work well with updos or swept-back hairstyles.
- Sparkling Bracelets: A glittering bracelet or cuff can add just the right amount of shine to your wrist, especially if you’re wearing a sleeveless dress.
- Dramatic Rings: Go for a statement ring with a large gemstone or an intricate design to add flair to your look.
4. Boho Chic
Dress Style: Flowy dresses, peasant dresses, and anything with a bohemian vibe.
Jewelry Ideas:
- Layered Necklaces: Combine different lengths and styles of necklaces for a relaxed, eclectic look. Think beads, charms, and mixed metals.
- Feather Earrings: These add a whimsical touch and are perfect for completing the boho aesthetic.
- Anklets: Don’t forget about anklets! They’re great for sandals or barefoot looks, adding a playful, free-spirited vibe.
5. Minimalist Style
Dress Style: Clean lines, solid colors, and simple designs.
Jewelry Ideas:
- Geometric Earrings: Choose earrings with simple shapes like triangles, circles, or squares for a modern touch.
- Thin Bangles: A few thin, minimalist bangles can add sophistication without overwhelming the outfit.
- Delicate Rings: Opt for thin, stackable rings or a single elegant ring to keep the look understated yet chic.
Tips for Choosing the Right Jewelry
- Match the Occasion: Consider where you’re going and what you’ll be doing. Jewelry for a casual brunch is different from jewelry for a formal event.
- Balance is Key: If your dress is heavily embellished, go for simpler jewelry. For plainer dresses, feel free to choose bolder, more intricate pieces.
- Personal Style: Ultimately, choose jewelry that reflects your personal style and makes you feel confident.
The right jewelry can transform your outfit and highlight your best features. By pairing your modern dresses with the perfect accessories, you can create a variety of looks that are stylish, sophisticated, and uniquely you. Whether you prefer simple elegance or bold statements, there’s a jewelry combination out there for every dress in your wardrobe.

Nezha Reborn annotations - Part 1
Since New Gods: Yang Jian is about to enter NA theaters this week, and before I do a huge information dump about that movie, I wanted to write about its prequel - Nezha Reborn.
I've already seen Yang Jian twice in cinemas here in Australia, and the animation has markedly improved in the one year since Nezha came out - it's definitely worth seeing on the big screen. You don’t need to watch Nezha before Yang Jian but if you’re interested in the lore, then you should lol. It's on netflix.
My original thread on twitter.
Background
Nezha is one of the most well-known characters from the 16th Century Chinese Novel Investiture of the Gods (IOTG), with countless adaptations based on his legend.
New Gods: Nezha Reborn is one of the latest portrayals of the character, and is the first move in Light Chaser Animation Studios' attempt at establishing a New Gods cinematic universe.
Nezha’s origin story
Nezha was born as a round ball of flesh after his mother Lady Yin was pregnant for three years. His dad Li Jing thought he was demon spawn, so tried to kill him but was spared by the immortal Taiyi Zhenren who became his master. At seven years old, he caused a lot of trouble like accidentally killing a demon from 1000 miles away and killing the dragon king Ao Guang’s third son Ao Bing as well as his right hand man the Yaksa Li Gen. When Ao Guang demanded retribution from Li Jing, Nezha chose to sacrifice himself instead. His master later resurrected him using lotus roots to construct a human body, and he came back more powerful than ever. 3000 years later...
Breakdown
Donghai (East Sea). It was the mythical underwater city that Nezha once conquered, now depleted of all its water resources. Set design is inspired by Republican-era Shanghai and Manhattan in the 1920s and 1930s. The poor Chinese style backdrop is contrasted against the glitz of the Western style architecture in the rich area. Rickshaws were commonplace on the streets.
Fashion is also blend of east and west, like the guy wearing kung fu shoes with a denim jacket.
The qipao was a favored dress among women at the time, popularized by Chinese socialites and high society women in Shanghai. Flapper fashion also influenced Kasha’s outfit, blending eastern and western styles.
Li Yunxiang shares the same surname as the original Nezha. His brother Jinxiang’s name is also similar to Nezha’s eldest brother Jinzha. Jinxiang’s look is very typical of the republican era - complete with his center-parted hair and round glasses.
Old Li has the same temperament as Nezha’s dad, The Pagoda Bearing Heavenly King Li Jing.
Who is Yunxiang’s adoptive sister Kasha? She’s an orphan of Belarusian descent, however not much else is known about her past. Her name means porridge in Belarusian. It might be a corruption of Katyusha (喀秋莎) with middle character removed in order to follow Chinese naming conventions idk.
If you know the history of the Republic of China, there were many girls like Kasha in that era. Her father was a soldier and left Kasha and her mother after the war.
✨Princess✨ Ao Bing~~ and the Yaksa Li Gen. Ao Bing is the third son of the Dragon King of the East Sea. The Yaksa Li Gen is the dragon king’s right hand man.
The four big clans - De, Li, Shun, Song (德家、利家、顺家、松家) - actually corresponds to the titles of dragon kings of the four seas. King De, Dragon King of the East Sea; King Li, Dragon King of the South Sea; King Shun, Dragon King of the West Sea, King Song, Dragon King of the North Sea.
A netizen looked this up and really wanted to kneel to Light Chaser for their worldbuilding.
Fun fact: the white horse from Journey to the West is the third son from the Song family.
H*rley-D*vidson Darrley-Hudson product displacement on the arm of Kasha’s jacket:
Actually the film has left some hints about her past. There are some Soviet-style badges pinned to her jacket, along with some small badges that Kasha herself added as well. Since this jacket is huge, it can be assumed that it was left to Kasha by her biological father.
The giant buddha statue is reminiscent of the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, Henan.
Daddy! Ao Guang, the dragon king of the East Sea.
Art deco details on the hood ornament, decals and invitation card.
Monkey’s suit is basically a hot pink version of the Zhongshan suit, a style of menswear introduced by Sun Yat-sen during the republican era, adapted from Japanese student wear. The four pockets are said to represent the Four Virtues of propriety, justice, honesty, and shame. He's blinged up his prayer beads too.
Does this mean Dr. Su is a descendent of Su Daji, the femme fatale of IOTG? Or could she actually be Daji’s reincarnation? Now I don’t know whether to trust her or not.
All these sea creature demons. Why? Chinese dragons are aquatic. They live underwater, and command water-based attacks, unlike western dragons who breathe fire. So it makes sense for them to control an army of demons that came from the deep.
So this is the crystal palace.
After Nezha’s death, Li Jing found out that Nezha’s mother had built a temple in his honor and burned it down because he was still angry at his son for all the trouble he caused to the family. The soul of Nezha was pissed and after his reincarnation, began to pursue his dad with the intent to kill. It took several parties to step in before matters were resolved.
Looks like monkey likes to listen to Peking Opera.
The Pukui fan, commonly known as the cattail fan, is a fan made from palm leaves and stalks. Lightweight and cheap, it is the most widely used fan in China.

The pink carpet at the “Barbie” premiere in Los Angeles on Sunday night was riddled with self-proclaimed Barbie Girls, but five dolls and their seven Kens got heads turning and the internet talking.
Despite their massive popularity in the States, it's been years since VENUS has had proper US promotions. After their contracts were bought by Flowerbank Entertainment, the girls began making their way back into the western market releasing an English single "Wasabi", performing at Coachella, and now being featured on the Barbie soundtrack alongside rapper Flo Milli with the track "Pink Playhouse."
The group appeared on pink carpet dressed in custom-made iconic dresses from Barbie movies. Dressed as Odette from Barbie Swan Lake, Chloe stunned with platinum blond hair with bleached brows, her dewy makeup giving her an ethereal and unforgettable look. Yoonah stood in the center dressed in an iridescent pink dress, paying homage to Clara of Barbie and The Nutcracker, dawning new blond hair as well. Jiah and Sena caused "The Princess and the Pauper" to trend on Twitter, posing hand in hand in their coordinating dresses and pretty smiles. Jiah dressed in blue as Erika the pauper and Sena as Princess Anneliese. Eldest member Aki was dressed in a long blond wing and purple gown, embodying Barbie Repunzle,
"Did you all dye your hair blond for this?" A Vogue reporter asks the girls, causing them all to giggle amongst each other. "No! Just me!" Chloe would answer, flipping her blond hair playfully before patting her roots to prove that her hair is dyed.
"We're so excited for this film. We're such a Barbie group. Our Jiah has been our Barbie for years now," Yoonah would go on to say, accent dripping from her words as she motions towards Jiah, who smiles at Yoonah and then nods at the camera.
"We're for the girls and Barbie has always been for the girls," Jiah comments as she leans towards the pink microphone.
The highly anticipated premier of VENUS's latest project had fans and fashion enthusiasts buzzing with excitement. However, the VENUS girls weren't the only ones making waves that night, as their brother group DeepDive made a memorable appearance by their side. While DeepDive preferred to stay low-key, allowing VENUS to take the spotlight, their outfits sparked a flurry of discussions across the internet.
Showcased from left to right: Jisung, Blue, Noah, Kiwoo, Woojin, Jacob, and Finn. Fans and fashion lovers alike were divided in their opinions, either loving or hating the ensembles.
Social media was abuzz with tweets expressing their thoughts on the outfits. "Do y'all think Jacob dressed himself?" one fan questioned, igniting a playful debate. Another chimed in, saying, "He's giving off country club Ken vibes. I don't know, but I kinda like it." However, it was Noah and Finn who managed to capture everyone's hearts, earning accolades for their impeccable "kenergy" during interviews and for their gallant acts, such as assisting their VENUS counterparts and even holding their purses.
During an interview, Finn casually remarked, "I'm just here as arm candy," flashing a charming smile. The interviewer couldn't help but laugh at his confident delivery, while the camera caught his shrug, adding to his undeniable charm. "Being a Ken is such an honor," he continued, captivating the audience. "I'm glad to have that title."
When asked about their outfits, Noah took the opportunity to shed some light, asserting, "He dressed everyone," as he pointed to Woojin, who modestly smiled, offering a shy bow and a wave to the camera. Woojin concurred with Noah's statement, gently placing a hand over his heart.
"I like pink. More boys should wear pink," Woojin explained, his radiant smile capable of making anyone weak in the knees. His words resonated with fans, who found his confidence and support for breaking gender norms utterly swoon-worthy.
The premier night was truly a spectacle, with VENUS and DeepDive making a lasting impression. As the discussion about their outfits rages on, one thing remains certain: this collaboration has left an indelible mark on the hearts of fans, and the fashion world will be buzzing about it for days to come.
