For the next 51 weeks of this year, we will be posting a weekly prompt to inspire artists of all kinds to draw our favorite echidna.

Every Wednesday we will release a new prompt.  Creators will have the rest of the week to post their fanart, fanfic, etc. To have your piece featured on the event page, just tag @year-of-the-echidna.

So, @wispmotherr and I discussed doing a fun little gift exchange for Februrary/Valentine's Day and thus the Valentine's Exchange was born! (Really all thanks to @wispmotherr for creating the server and writing the rules. This would not be happening without her!)

I'll give you a little breakdown of the explanation/rules:

Proclaiming the Year of Aliyan-Ba'al

KTU 1.78 is quite a peculiar piece of ancient literature. It's an astrological report from Ugarit written in the City's own language and alphabet.¹ Despite being only six lines long, it has been the subject of extended discussion among scholars due to an ominous description of an astronomical event.² This event was identified early on by researchers with a solar eclipse dated to 1375 BCE, but a 1989 reexamination by astronomer Teije De Jong and Assyriologist W.H. van Soldt pointed to another solar eclipse, of 1223 BCE, as a more likely candidate.¹,³,⁴

This challenged the prevailing view of the timeframe of the Ugaritic texts.⁵ An even fuller picture thereof has emerged from research upon texts including those discovered in the house of a Diviner named Agaptharri.⁶ Three of these are particularly intriguing in relation to the Ba'al cycle, one of them even providing insight into the ritual aspect of the myth. It's classified as RS 24.293 and it involves 𒀭Mot, the God of Death who swallows up 𒀭Ba'al before being destroyed by 𒀭Maiden Anat to restore Her Brother to life.⁷

The Fourth Tablet of Ba'al itself, written by the scribe Ilimilku of Shuban under 𒀭'King Niqmaddu IV of Ugarit around the same time as the apparent eclipse, also contains a portion of broken text which bridges 𒀭Ba'al the Victorious' Great Theophany and His instructions to the Lads 𒀭Gapn and 𒀭Ugar to deliver His message to 𒀭Mot. Restoration of the text shows it appears to refer to the Sun, personified as 𒀭Shapshu the Luminary of the Gods, being cloaked in gloom as a grim omen.⁸,⁹ I think it's easy to see the connection I'm making here; I believe these two eclipses can be taken together as a sort of symbolic epoch.

The date was recorded as the Month of Khiyyaru during the New Moon which was the first Day of the Month in the Ugaritic calendar.¹ This lunar calendar has twelve months beginning just before the Autumnal Equinox in September. There was a modern version on Tess Dawson's Natib Qadish website but it's no longer present and I'm interested in repurposing it if I can figure out the math involved (especially with intercalation).

In any case, under the De Jong and van Soldt dating we are now in Year 3248 of Ba'al the Victorious starting in late Summer of 2024 and ending in late Summer of 2025. This is of course the first actual use of such a dating system, so it's only appropriate for it to take place on the civic New Year's Day. Shulmu 𒁲𒈬 and Happy New Year to all!

Trying to decipher Step by Step timeline

and failing.

This is just my takeaway from what we have seen so far. Lot of the timeframe I am assuming here are from their office work and Ae's pregnancy

episode 1: we learn Pat is a fresh recruit. It's only been a month since he joined Jian group so he is still in probationary period.

He has another 8 months till becomes a regular employee. Most company will keep their recruits in probationary period from anywhere between 2 months to a year. So in Jian Pat's probationary period is 9 months....like Ae's pregnancy

Side note: I never put this together but Pat did his internship at Ae and Beam's company.

Episode 2: A lot has happened. Pat is not having the best time with new Manager Jeng and at the very end when he is preparing to resign he gets a notification to do a peer review on Jeng. Usually peer review frequency varies from company to company but most perform theirs at the end of the quarter. Some mncs will perform peer reviews twice in one quarter, one being at the beginning and another one at the end. So that being said Jeng has to have been the manager for a few months for Pat to give such scathing review.

Ok, so it's Q1. Which would mean this somewhere between January-March

episode 3: The peer review is sent and Pat is stresses so by the end of this episode he has prepared his resignation letter. I don't know how to read Thai but google translator tells me this is dated February 2023.

episode 4: no specific date for me to follow but Forge project is in it's presentation stage + finalizing production company for ads.

episode 5: Jeng's dad's ultimatum, so Jeng has till the end of 23 to show progress for his department or his Dad is shutting it down

We also find out Ae is pregnant.

episode 6: nothing specific on the time. Put asks for a second chance

episode 7: lmao! I wish! But yes some companies do be giving maternity leave from 3 months to a year. But there is also the issue of paid, non-paid maternity leave which is a whole other thing.

From the looks of it Ae is not that far into her pregnancy???? So she might be waiting to take that leave later.

episode 8: Pat and Put have broken up. Ae's bump isn't that visible sitting in the middle but it's there.

episode 9: now we have some specific time again. Both of Pat's parents are visiting him to celebrate his birthday. Which is October 31st

We don't know exactly how far along Ae is. But it's the end of October and she found out she was pregnant in episode 5 so maybe in March/April!!!

Pat has his birthday and with that we are entering November. One last peer review perhaps? lol. Jeng has to show his dad significant change in the department but he is leaving Jian and looking for his replacement.

Ae is more that 30 weeks pregnant when she has her baby. Lets just assume they are well into December by now for my sanity and everyone else.

in conclusion: it's been somewhere around a little over a year up till episode 9. Pat is likely a regular employee now.

AN UPDATE ON MY POSTING SCHEDULE

I have written 7 pieces so far, but I decided to publish only 5 of them during this month (like I originally promised and said "maybe more" without promising) because I also decided that starting from January 3rd 2025, I will be posting once a week, every Friday at 4pm EET. And to kick that off, I put those 2 extra pieces to publish on 3rd and 10th.

Also another change:

AO3 is my primary posting place and it gets an "exclusive pre-access" from now on with my fics as it's the only site that doesn't have a schedule function. To put it simply, it means that fics will be published there before any other platforms, usually a few days beforehand.

Tumblr is my secondary publishing place, so fics come here second in line.

Wattpad is my third posting place, and the schedule system is unfortunately botched when I have so many books. I get it that it's not meant to be able to manage dozens of books at once, but yeah, unfortunately it also means the fics will come there much much later and really randomly because I got so messed up with schedules, please don't eat me for that if you prefer reading in Wattpad.

Through Christmas time, my "special" fics will be published in Tumblr on these days:

A word of warning that it's pretty angsty/bittersweet. My next JATP piece will be fluffier, promise!

I have no active wips going on right now but I'll start working on the next one soon (which will come out on 17th of January), I'll try to write as many as I can before Sunday because after that I may not be able to write much (or not being able to finish anything) for two weeks as I'll be at my mum's and my laptop is over 4 years old so its battery is half-dead.

Also a little note about my posting pace because I know some of you may think it's too slow: this may or may not be temporary. It depends on how much I'll be able to write and within what timeframe. If my queue has fics for the next 5 weeks, I won't have to stress about being late on the schedule because I'm trying to get myself back to writing regularly after a long slough because I finally have motivation again, even when I'm kinda struggling with writing and constantly change up words, write sentences again, erase, write the original one, erase, write the second one, erase, erase the whole paragraph, altering the scene. I KNOW most writers have this exact same problem but it wasn't my problem earlier, my writer friends have always admired me for that, how I've been able to write good text with minimal editing and now editing takes twice as long as writing 😅

But yeah there will be times when I can't bring myself to write because of one reason or another, especially when it's likely that after I come back from London in March, I will be pretty convention-depressed and may not have much motivation to write, and it would be nice to have time to readjust by having my queue safe and I won't have to "stress" about writing immediately. I know that all my non-toxic readers understand that me writing for free means this isn't a responsibility and I can do this as much or as little as I want, but it brings me peace when I know there's fics coming up and I have schedule that's on a sturdy ground. I'm still regretting how I ended up spamming all my 2022 autumn-2024 January fics here in February because of that one angry ask about wanting to see new stuff instead of fics they've already read, that I'm clogging their dash with my old stuff and then my resolution was just spam them all at once so it will drown under all the other posts soon enough, a genius plan endeed... (sarcasm). A lot of people blocked me that day, so won't be doing that ever again 😅

Though, depending on how much I'll be able to write before the con, I may schedule a few extra fics for that week 👍🏻 (3rd of March-10th of March) But again, not promising anything until I can be certain I can handle it.

I did some mathing in my brain about when is AI’s and the Twins birthdays since I’m trying to figure out with what we got in the prologue since Aka never gave anyone birthdays and the time line of seasons is a fuck here. but I’m thinking Ai just turned 16 around the same time she was discovered to be 20 weeks along(5 months) and it starts snowing when her death/20th birthday but the twins birth it also starts snowing with the reincarnation happens.Japan usually starts having snow around mid December til early April so I’m shooting that AI’s birthday is around December while the twins might be late march if im doing a ball park guess I know this is weird thing to bring up in a ask but if Akasaka doesn’t give us birthdays then the fans gonna have to do it with the context clues we get especially since she’s still 16 when the twins are like … 6 months. Idek I’m rambling and want to know of your take cause I love your takes

please undrstand i am saying this with nothing but love but this ask briefly sent me down a rabbithole of forbidden knowledge and insanity and i feel like a lovecraft protag who has seen too much. I THINK i have made sense of all this but.................... listen akasaka clearly didn't think about it the same way i'm doing here so really, i guess i'm the clown in this scenario. heehoo.

The most direct clue we get about when Ai's birthday falls is in Viewpoint B, during her conversation with Kyun. The flashback portion of the story is implied to take place in December (the framing device is set in December and Kyun's recent breakup happened 'right before Christmas') and Ai's upcoming fifteenth birthday is mentioned indirectly; she talks about being about to age out of the children's home she'd been staying in which would put her birthday either in December or January.

This is also supported by the fact that the the snowfall that occurs after her death is noted to be unseasonably early. Given that the series is set mostly in Tokyo which mostly gets its snow in January, December makes the most sense for her birth month. In addition, during the little happy memories montage at the end of the episode, we see the family celebrating Christmas in a space that has exclusively Christmas decorations — so Ai's birthday is not close enough to the 24th or 25th for those sorts of celebrations to overlap. With all that in mind, my best guess for Ai's birthday is late November/early December. I personally like to headcanon it as November 28th, as it matches the timeframe and is when the real life Strawberry Productions Fan Thankgiving event was held.

As for the twins birthday, my instinct was to try and guesstimate this based on the details of Ai's pregnancy. We're directly told by the text that it lasted the full 40 weeks (which is actually not as common for twins — Ruby and Aqua were a bit late!) and that a few months have passed by the time she returns to working as an idol; Aqua and Ruby are using walkers the day she returns from her hiatus and babies are not typically physically capable of using them until around six months old. Obviously the twins are a bit more mobile than a regular baby would be much earlier, but they do seem to be reasonably constrained by the physical limits of their bodies so I feel pretty comfortable saying around six months have passed by the time Ai comes off hiatus. This also makes sense in terms of Ai's health, since it takes about six months to fully recovery from childbirth.

20 weeks post hiatus pregnancy + six months postpartum recovery = ten to eleven months passed between Ai arriving at the hospital and returning from her hiatus. It's also worth noting that she may not actually still be 16 around this time? When Saitou talks about her age, he mentions her becoming a mother at 16 which is obviously the age she had the kids, but it does leave room for her to have had a birthday between getting pregnant and actually having them.

With that 20 week starting point in mind, though, we can use the remaining 20 weeks of her pregnancy to try and narrow things down a bit more.

Using the anime as reference, it seems to be around early/mid autumn when Ai arrives at the hospital. If you look at the greenery behind Gorou when he's up on the roof, you can see there's patches where leaves are starting to show their autumn colours.

Since the hospital is all the way out in Takachiho, where autumn typically lasts between November and early December (if I'm remembering right?), my best guess would be that Ai arrived at the hospital probably late November or early December.

With that in mind, the remaining 20 weeks of her pregnancy playing out in full, that means the twins' birthday must be in mid to late April. This is actually implicitly confirmed to be the case in the series itself: while Ruby's age (and therefore Aqua's by extension) is given as 14 at the start of volume 2, they are already sixteen by the time LoveNow starts airing, which happens not long after they start high school - and the Japanese school year starts in April.

I'm choosing to headcanon them on the earlier side of April, just because that places them smack dab in the middle of cherry blossom season for Tokyo, which both makes them spring babies in contrast to Ai and ties nicely into how cherry blossoms represent rebirth and new beginnings.

Ok, back on my BS here. I'm working on trying to narrow down when the present day scenes of season 5 of The Amelia Project takes place. I have vague ideas of some early season timing but there's some hand-wavey bits. Here's what I have so far, which I'm sure perfectly aligned with everything Pip and Oystein has planned, right?

February 14, 2012 - Julia Thorpe fakes her death and joins The Amelia Project as Alvina Wright

Alvina mentions in 12 Deaths Day 1 she joined in 2012

Alvina mentions in Episode 24 that it’s her 5 year anniversary with TAP

All of Season 5 takes place over the course of one night as Kozlowski and The Interviewer share their stories with Jackie/Mia and Alvina respectively

We can narrow this down a little further looking at some weather data. In Episode 56 - Curtain, they mention that it's a warm evening in Paris. That means we're probably in the Summer.

We also know that, in Scotland, Jackie and Mia are absolutely freezing. I figure they're probably around Cairngorms National Park and I ended up with this weather data.

Hello everyone here's the part of the night where I am forced to reveal that I occasionally read books (mostly when bullied these days) and Hapi here decided to bully me into reading Mistborn. So if you're wondering where I was from about late December to early January, I was reading three 700 page books before my semester started and my will to enjoy words written on officially published pages evaporated

Good series (only read Era 1 because I physically could not fit Era 2 into that timeframe but you know) would recommend. 8/10 cool world excellent buildup lovable characters, needs more gay and women and women gays

Dimitri: Definitely a Pewter boy. It just fits with his canonical strength thing he's got going on

Dedue: Copper boy. Lowkey and not necessarily seen as super important to the team, but arguably the most important person on the team. Also, storing memory could be a wealth of angst if you wanted!

Sylvain: Sylvain is kind of hard for me. He doesn't really scream one particular metal like most of the rest of them. I suppose bronze is the one that sticks out the most? (I know they don't all have to have different ones but I think it's more fun if they do).

Felix: Zinc boy, to honor his uncanny ability to piss people off :) Just look at him.

Ashe: He's a tin boy. IMO having the sharpened senses makes sense with his backstory of living on the streets.

Ingrid: I guess I'll give her steel, mostly because you can store speed with it and that just calls to me with Ingrid for some reason.

Annette: Which means Annette can have iron, mostly because I think it'd be funny to watch her accidentally send things flying around.

Mercedes: Brass girl. She just seems like the best candidate for emotional soothing, and there's something kinda cute about her being able to store warmth

Monthly Update #2: January 2024!

This post is about two weeks late, but that's okay, because we've been hard at work! The Foolsdev team has expanded yet again, with two new artists joining the team! @alynwrench is our new portrait artist, who will be doing work on certain late-game antagonists, and @odybramm3rdattempt is our new sprite/tile artist who is working on getting our enemy sprites up to date!

The project is coming along really nicely, and we've made some really good progress with the demo version. The dungeon is mostly complete and the story segments of the demo are nearly complete. There's a few things left to do in that regard, and once that's done it's a matter of time until all the sprites and the artwork are done and implemented.

The game is still a fair ways off, but we've been progressing steadily in the past month. Once we get closer to having a finished demo ready, we'll post some information on where we'll be uploading it and we're gonna see if we can put together a trailer at some point around that timeframe.

it's strange, how i still remember your user and how i keep coming back to it a lot. it's not strange when i let the guilt hit me though and the realization sinks in; it always sinks in. you don't want to hear that and i don't want to give excuses since there are none to be given for my behavior to begin with. i lied, pretty badly, about my condition and didn't want to tell you particularly because i didn't know how you would react (part of me still thinks you would've been as calm as you were and probably wouldn't have said much but you still would've accepted me either way -- the other half will always say the opposite) and it never left me. ghosting is a fucking awful thing to do and its borderline reduntant when it comes from someone like me considering what i've done to you. i don't expect you to forgive me, not this time, but please just know that i'm sorry for the hurt and pain that my actions and person caused. i'm stable enough to realize that you didn't deserve any of it. didn't deserve the harsh treatment, the cold shoulder, the secrets and the lies all because of my unpredictability when it comes to... everything.

i think about how you're doing from time to time. i always think, and go, and hope that you're having nice days without me, and hope that you won't spend too much time thinking about me, or us, or how i treated you. to me you were (are) a part of my life and growth that i cherish and its silly because i know that feeling is most likely gone for you.

Hello there, old friend. I would like to apologize for what feels like a late response -- I don't check my tumblr that much anymore, between work and school and band, it's difficult. Plus I had to think of how I wanted to word all this and after some input from my friends, I think I'd like to address you.

In the very late spring of 2022, sophomore year me was a bit loopy, and within the first month of the school year, broke up with his significant other. He felt nothing doing it, and free after the impulsive act was completed.

4 months later, it was now that winter, maybe even the exact same timeframe as we are now, all things considered. He felt guilt rotting through his heart and head and it consumed him for about 4-6 months.

Why do I bring this up? It's a reference, I assure you, because it seems you've done the damn near the exact same thing I did 2 years prior, almost down to the exact time frame of leaving in September and dropping a message in January.

But that's irrelevant, meaningless words I'm filling this post with because your ask seems to have done the same.

I've waited months to say this to you and I am not skipping my chance.

You got one thing right in your "apology": you're not forgiven, and I don't think I'll ever have it in my heart to forgive you. I've already done so twice, and while I didn't learn either of those times, I did this time and I won't fall for it again. And if I do forgive you? I'll have to be several years older.

If you know that ghosting is such a horrible thing, then why did you do it? You blocked me on everything, changed your username, and didn't elaborate on anything. I even messaged you on Roblox, and I got nothing. What changed to make you suddenly come back -- on tumblr of all things -- to apologize? Is that burning guilt in your chest finally catching up to you?

See, when that happened, I thought I'd been abandoned, cheated on, or duped, because, mind you, Val, we dated for over a year. What kind of partner ghosts like that? We weren't some sort of casual little thing, and for what it could be for two teenagers, we were serious. And again I ask, what kind of partner does that, especially after such a large amount of time together with so many promises made?

I attached myself to one of my friends in an attempted rebound before stepping away and realizing I didn't need to cause her the pain you caused me. I distanced myself from friends and actually cried myself to sleep since the days of that anecdote. I haven't been eating as much because I'm scared to. I skipped as many days of school as I could manage under my parents and worked as many hours as I possibly could just to keep you out of my head.

I've bottled up so much anger I haven't been able to properly express. I buzzed my long hair off in favor of a buzz cut to metaphorically "get rid of the memories" and to gain some semblance of control over my life.

When you left, you took a part of me away that quite frankly, I don't think I will ever get back, and whether it's for better or for worse, I'm a different man now than I was when you left. I'm not even so sure you'd recognize me... I don't even recognize me. And every time I think of that, I find that while I obviously have some twisted up things going on up inside my head, I loop it back to you.

I'm aware of the edginess this has to it, but I'm saying it this way for a reason, not to appear "cooler".

When I woke up this morning at 5:30 AM with an awful feeling and read that message, I felt sick to my stomach. I almost cried when I read it because how was I supposed to react? The keyword being almost, because the fallacies fell through quickly.

The first of which being the most obvious: after all this time, there is one thing I have been searching for, and that's the "why". Why did you leave? I'd asked myself that question over and over again like it would come to me out of the thin air.

And yet, when you come back to apologize to me after everything, I still don't get a "why", or at least a straightforward "why."

This is nothing more than a bloated apology that could've been summed up in a paragraph -- and so is this response, but I'm doing it to a) match your tone, and b) get it through to you.

And now... the final points.

You hurt me to a level that is unforgivable.

I'm sorry for whatever it is you're going through, but after this I never wanna see you again unless you have something real to explain -- or at least not until I can make peace with what you did to me.

What to expect from the stock market this week

Last week, the review of the macro market indicators saw with the January options expiry in the books, equity markets showed strength after a precarious start Monday morning. Elsewhere looked for Gold ($GLD) to continue its assault on the all-time high while Crude Oil ($USO) rose in consolidation. The US Dollar Index ($DXY) continued to drift higher while US Treasuries ($TLT) remained in a short term downtrend. The Shanghai Composite ($ASHR) looked to continue to chop the entirety of a broad range while Emerging Markets ($EEM) remained in a short term downtrend.

The Volatility Index ($VXX) looked to remain low making the path easier for equity markets to the upside. The charts of the $SPY and $QQQ looked strong on the longer timeframe. On the shorter timeframe both the QQQ and SPY were inching towards recovering the 6 week pullbacks. The $IWM looked better than both on the shorter timeframe but had work to do on the longer chart.

The week played out with Gold continuing higher to nearly reach the October all-time high while Crude Oil met resistance and fell back in consolidation. The US Dollar cracked support and moved to a 1 month low while Treasuries fell back in their downtrend. The Shanghai Composite held in a tight range over short term support while Emerging Markets bounced up to test short term resistance.

Volatility ticked down all week giving equities a tailwind to move higher. This resulted in the SPY printing a new all-time high Thursday with the QQQ not far behind, just short otf its prior top. The IWM moved over short term resistance to a 1 month high. What does this mean for the coming week? Let’s look at some charts.

The SPY came into the week stalled at a lower high in a bounce from a lower low in a digestive pullback. Monday saw it rise to the prior bounce high and then Tuesday continued higher. Wednesday it stopped just high of the all-time high before printing a new high Thursday. Friday poked slightly higher before seeing profit taking late in the day. The RSI is rising in the bullish zone with the MACD positive and climbing as the Bollinger Bands® open higher.

The weekly chart shows continuation higher but stopping shy of a weekly closing high. The RSI is rising with the MACD level after resetting lower. There is resistance at 609 and 610.25 with the 200% extension of the retracement of the 2022 pullback near 613 above that. Support lower is at 604 and 600 then 593 and 590 before 585 and 580. Uptrend.

Heading into the January FOMC meeting, equity markets showed strength with a 4 day trend higher before some profit taking Friday. Elsewhere look for Gold to continue its push to a new high while Crude Oil pulls back in consolidation. The US Dollar Index looks to have stalled in its move to the upside while US Treasuries resume their downtrend. The Shanghai Composite looks to continue chop in consolidation while Emerging Markets continue the short term downtrend.

The Volatility Index looks to remain low and stable making the path easier for equity markets to the upside. Their charts look strong, especially on the longer timeframe. On the shorter timeframe the SPY, the QQQ and the IWM are all reversing out of the pullbacks started in December with the SPY the first to print a new all-time high. The QQQ is less than 2% away from its prior top with the IWM still over 5% below its all-time high. Use this information as you prepare for the coming week and trad’em well.
