Niffty loves riding around on top of Vox’s head— it’s comfortable on there since it’s flat and it’s fun being up so high. However, sometimes she gets the impulse to play with his antennas, which… are VERY sensitive. She gets some interesting reactions out of him whenever the urge to pull on them becomes too great to resist.

wonder if vox dreamt while he was comatose during that first week after the broadcast, or if he was just completely shut down

I feel Alastor in this AU bc if I found out someone was in love with me I'd go apeshit on that person too
(this is mostly a joke... however I do appreciate him for taking the L)
Oh, Alastor knew about the crush for a long time. Vox never explicitly confessed, but it was very clear to Alastor what his little business offer back in the 60s actually meant. That, coupled with Vox's emergent greed and power hunger, is what made Alastor drop him the moment Vox tried to close the gap between them. For the next 50 years, Alastor treated Vox's continued obsession with him flippantly, never even acknowledging it since it was "beneath his notice," although in reality it still made him deeply uncomfortable.
The decision to mindfuck him wasn't spurred on by any particular thing: they just got into a really bad fight, Vox was in a vulnerable position that Al had never managed to get him into before, and Alastor decided to seize the opportunity. The fight had pissed him off– he wanted to make Vox suffer and then suddenly all the emotions from the past 50 years came bubbling back up to the surface and he no longer wanted to just hurt Vox, he wanted to put him in his place. Permanently.

Gnawing at the bars of my enclosure thinking about how Val never once takes advantage of RAM!Vox and how even he is confused as to why not.
Like he’s had opportunities, he’s considered it. Maybe even one time when Vox mistook him for his wife Vox initiated something but Val turned him down immediately.
Val in this au is having feelings that he hasn’t had since he was like a living child (so almost a century ago) and it is fucking him up.
I knoooooowww. It's so much fun forcing him to make morally correct choices while still keeping him an absolute monster with literally everyone else. The cognitive dissonance is delicious. I guess it really just comes down to the fact that he actually respects Vox and Velvette (in his own fashion) and sees them as people in a way he just doesn't with everybody else.

This particular memory spiral was caused by Vox hearing a bit of Gypsy (the musical) on the airwaves while static'd out and recalling his time as a child performer. Once the static passed, he was disoriented and latched onto those memories as a way of filling in the gaps.
Thinking about all the times Vox wandered into a room in his quarters, tense and confused, and then found Vark. They would always spend the next hour or so playing together (far more energetically than Vox had ever done in the past) and by the time he finally lost interest, Vox had usually lost the train of thought that had been stressing him out. Occasionally, though, the anxiety would remain, and Vark would join Vox in his wandering.

AU where the Vees don't keep Vox's condition secret from the public. Val's trying to bring him back upstairs after he got out again, but when Vox sees Velvette talking to some reporters, he can't resist grabbing the mic and making an "announcement."
Just came up with a cheat code for how to write Vox’s less coherent dialogue: Take a normal sentence, then run it through Google Translate like five~ten times and edit as necessary.

Random thought: Vaggie telling Vox he needs to chill the fuck out about Alastor, this level of fixation on a person isn’t healthy, and realizing for a moment, oh… this is that “pot meet kettle” thing she’s heard about

Alastor’s got such a perverted sentimentality going on in this au.
He’d rather forcibly freeze a friend in the state he liked him best rather than let them change in a way he found distasteful.
It’s not that he doesn’t care about Vox. He cares exactly enough to do one of the most horrible things imaginable to him.
People aren’t really people to Al, even the people he likes. Everyone’s just a doll to him and there are dolls he wants to break apart and those he wants to keep.
Right on the money.
I find it really easy to "write" Alastor's psychopathy in this AU, more so than in the main verse surprisingly. I guess, like Charlie, it's easy to forget the depths of cruelty he can sink to when he's always surrounded by neutral parties (well. except Husk).
The only question this AU raises about Al that I struggle with is why he treats Mimzy and Rosie with the level of respect he does when this is what he's willing to do to his other friends. I suppose it's just because they're both willing to stay mostly the same for decades on end for their own reasons and that makes Alastor feel safe and unchallenged around them. Vox's whole thing was always constantly moving forward, no matter the cost; of course his and Al's friendship was eventually going to go sour– they're both control freaks who wanted diametrically opposed things.

Vox’s relationship with Niffty and Sir Pentious is interesting because, on a subconscious level, he knows that this isn’t the first trio he’s been a part of. Pen and Niffty have absolutely nothing in common Val or Velvette besides being a tall man and a short woman, so there’s no full-blown projection, but there is one occasion when Vox gets it into his head that of course Pentious would be up for watching porn with him— he loves porn! Pen is absolutely mortified by this situation.

Ngl the idea of the Vees just like fucking yoinking Nifty after Alastor either dies or fucks off into the ether is very darkly funny to me.
They probably wouldn’t even ask the hotel and Nifty would gladly go with them because she likes Vox and she’s really enamored with Val (in a way that manages to make even him uncomfortable).
They just… have a Nifty now.
They have shared custody with the hotel crew. The hazbins love Niffty and don’t want her in the hands of the Vees of all people (especially Angel), but… she is a grown woman and is capable of making her own choices, even if those choices are pretty inexplicable. They don’t seem to be taking advantage of her in any way other than not paying her for her labor, but they didn’t do that either, so…????
Alternately, it’s consensual kidnapping-for-consensual kidnapping. Alastor takes Vox, they take Niffty. At least they won’t be arrogant enough to put her in a shitty commercial that advertises where she is for everyone to see.

Just realized that the heaven ending takes place a century or more into the future so for a while vox is gonna have to contend with the fact that he spent longer like that than he did as himself
Vox doesn’t know who he even is anymore when he arrives in Heaven. He’s not Vaughn, he’s not the Old Vox, he’s not the New Vox, he’s not Velvette’s silent, nameless attack dog— who the fuck is he now? Hopefully he can begin to figure that out in Heaven. He’s got nothing but time on his hands, after all.

Occasionally, there are days in V Tower when Vox can be calmed down from a freakout just by sticking a screen in his face (a tablet, a TV, anything). Val has mixed feelings about those days. On one hand, those are some of the few times that Vox will allow Val to touch him, since he’s too zoned out to get jumpy over another man trying to cuddle with him. On the other hand, sitting there for hours watching his former partner barely acknowledge him because he’s so utterly enthralled by whatever garbage comes across his screen hurts in a way that Val didn’t even know was possible.

Husk is terrified of Alastor one day doing what he did to Niffty and Vox to him, but I have no idea what he’d become in that scenario. I’m no universe can I ever see Husk being high-energy. Maybe the key is dialing up pre-existing personality traits? Idk

Hi! Not sure if someone’s already asked this but I’m curious about Alastor’s feelings in the Heaven Ending? (since Vox is permanently out of his reach now)
I'm not sure where Alastor is at the time of the Heaven Ending. He may be permadead, he may still be out there somewhere. Assuming he is alive and catches wind of Vox's ascension, he'd mostly just be astounded that it happened at all. He's bitter about losing Vox, but that was almost a century ago at this point. Circumstances forced him to move on (he would've kept dragging this mess out indefinitely if they didn't) and he's found many new way of entertaining himself in the meantime.
Regardless of his feelings on redemption as a concept and how deserving Vox is of it, there might be a small part of him that's just a tiny bit glad that something good came out of all this (and that it's finally, definitively over).

Random thought: One of Vark's jobs is to break Vox's fall when he collapses from running out of battery after who-knows-how-long. Afterwards, he's supposed to howl until he gets someone's attention; they'll come in, carry Vox to his bed/charging station, and plug him in to recharge.
