every semester i have to attend a little zoom call with my new seminar group for politics and we get to meet each other early and suggest topics we want to discuss.

All this stuff with Chappell Roan is so interesting to me because people are now using the fact that she has conservative relatives to question whether or not she is actually a lesbian. Which is just so chronically-online-leftist-feedback-bubble that it’s actually insane.

Like babe, she sings about being from Tennessee and the Midwest. Did you think she came from some magical queer only side of those places? Queer people from conservative families exist and those families aren’t always frothing at the mouth homophobes. She shouldn’t have to make a public statement distancing herself from her own family in order to be considered a valid lesbian.

I understand that social media is frequently a no nuance place where conservatives and liberals can’t even think of existing in the same space as one another without coming to blows, but in reality, every liberal has a conservative family member, and every conservative has a liberal one. And yes these people might disagree and get into huge political fights at Thanksgiving, but they are allowed to still love each other and still be a family. Thinking otherwise has you unironically saying dumb shit like “well Chappell has a conservative uncle and she used to date a man, so how do we know she’s even really a lesbian?”

Please go outside and speak to real people and gain some perspective

I can't imagine being anywhere near as insane as Trump supporters because my dad told me that he, earlier, drove past a guy putting a "Harris Walz 2024" sign outside his house and decided to yell out at him "TRUMP 2024 YOU COCKSUCKER" and flip him off. And he laughed when he told me because he thinks that yelling at a man (emphasized man because he thinks men should be "better" than women, and "better" would be voting for Trump in this case) who is voting for a "whore who slept her way to the top" (his exact words) is funny. And expected me to laugh with him. And got angry when I didn't and just stared at him in disbelief. Even though he already knows that I don't like Donald Trump. These people fully expect others to find their weird ass derogatory words and behavior FUNNY. Donald Trump is leading a cult of old people who he brainwashed into being delusional with him.

back to complaining about translations but i just again came across an old post that basically was analyzing sasuke calling naruto his one and only and saying it was him being sarcastic/not truthful because he was throwing naruto’s previous words at him in this panel

and im just… this panel is wrong. the speech bubble and naruto’s thoughts are flipped. naruto did not call sasuke his one and only here, he was remembering sasuke calling Him his closest friend.

anyway it’s a tricky panel because it’s in many pages when you read the manga. like i’m not free of sin because i remember i have posted too when i couldn’t find one with the correct placement. (also i feel like naruto saying there’s no way he’d able to leave sasuke alone holds more meaning than i can’t let that happen but whatever Whatever details) but anyway this is also an scene you can watch the anime clip and see what is naruto saying. but my point is that One simple misplacement in the translation can literally lead to people misinterpreting something completely different and in this case denying sasuke’s feelings and characterization. and it’s just well. sad

The email addresses and votes will NOT be shared with anyone; it is simply to prevent voting anomalies. Please let us know if there are any issues!

At the end of the voting form, you will be asked if you would like to have a say in which Roulette categories will be featured next term. This is not required, but we wanted to further involve the community in how the awards are run.

In addition, there is an additional Romance Roulette to both Fanart and Fanfiction. At the end of the Google Form, voters will have a chance to voice which pairing they would like to see represented in the next term. As seen with the regular roulette categories, pairings represented will change each term based on participation.

I was never really in the phandom pre-hiatus, my closest connection being shit that got reposted to pintrest but also I stopped using pintrest in 2018, making my closest connection the youtube comments themselves. Despite this, I was still locked tf in as a phannie in my own right. All of the submitted videos and more were rewatched several times.
