Soonyoung wasn’t joking when he said many people would watch tonight's game.

As you scanned around the university’s packed stadium to search for Junhui, who was more into theatre rather than physical activity, you heard his voice yell over the loud crowd,”Y/n! Over here!”

The university's sports tournament between the different years was highly anticipated within the student body. This game, however, the soccer battle between the 3rd and 4th years was one many were interested in watching— primarily because the national treasure, Jeon Wonwoo, would be on the field.

As you sat in the seat next to Jun, you asked,”Is the game almost starting?”

“Not for a while, I’m guessing everyone wanted good seats to see Wonwoo.” He shrugged, laying back in his chair while staring off at the empty field. You rolled your eyes at the thought of Wonwoo and the argument you two had in the faculty lounge hours prior.

”How pathetic.”

Wonwoo could have been understanding how his duffle bag was in your possession by mistake, but instead, he chose to scold you for 20 minutes. You never knew there were so many ways to call someone stupid, but Wonwoo’s colorful vocabulary defied your previous thoughts. Even if you didn’t automatically think of texting him first, that shouldn’t mean you had to face Wonwoo’s wrath because of your mistake.

Thinking about the encounter made you sulky. At that moment, you knew your feelings for Wonwoo were final. You disliked Jeon Wonwoo. Any romantic thoughts you had previously were simply just a figment of your imagination.

“Y/n!” You heard someone familiar call out, causing you to stand up from your seat.

“Hm? What’s up?” You asked the younger underclassmen, who you recognized from your calculus class.

“Jeon Wonwoo wants to see you in the stadium’s storage room!”

“Huh?” Both you and Junhui had exclaimed. Jun was caught off guard by this because as far as he knew, there was no relation between you and Wonwoo. You, on the other hand, were confused because Wonwoo stated multiple times that he didn’t want to interact with you on campus. Because of the altercation that had happened earlier, you figured it was an emergency so without a second thought you replied,”Okay, I'll go meet him.”

“Hurry, the game starts soon!” She said, almost rushing you out of your seat. But when you had left, the younger classmate started giggling, causing Jun to raise an eyebrow.

Something wasn’t right. When Soonyoung or Seungkwan would come out to the fields, Jun knew he had to tell them about what had happened. He grew anxious as the minutes went by, only hoping nothing horrible would happen to you.

“Wonwoo?” You asked while entering the storage room. It was dark in this space, the only light that had shown through was from the doorway entry. The eerie atmosphere disturbed you on the inside, but regardless, you stayed for what Wonwoo wanted to tell you.

Just then, the metal doorway had closed shut, leaving you alone in the pitch-black room. You heard multiple footsteps come closer towards you. Frightened by what was occurring, you asked under your shaky breath,”W-Who’s there?”

The single light bulb fixture had turned on with a tug of a sting, revealing the faces of three girls you never wanted to see up close. Chohee, Soyul, and Byeol were essentially the leaders of the Jeon Wonwoo fanclub at university. From what you heard from Soonyoung and Seungkwan, the three had made strict rules about Wonwoo during middle school to protect him. They were stupid rules, nonetheless, but anyone who disobeyed was handled violently, and you feared you would be next.

Chohee displayed a fake smile when confronting you,”Sorry, we tricked you.”

“Seungkwan! Soonyoung!” Jun yelled when he saw the two boys walk into the stadium, he ran towards the barricade of the stands to communicate with the two. Unknown to Jun, Wonwoo had entered the field shortly after.

Seungkwan and Soonyoung made their way closer to Junhui and listened to him reveal what had happened earlier,”Y/n left the stands 10 minutes ago, one of the underclassmen said that Jeon Wonwoo was waiting for her in the storage room.”

“What?!” Wonwoo butted into the conversation. Jun groaned to himself, seeing Wonwoo only confirmed his suspicion that something more serious was occurring,“God, Wonwoo what the fuck is going on?”

“I don’t know,” Wonwoo told the upperclassman in front of him,”I’ll go fix it.”

He ran out of the fields, causing a wave of shock within the stands. Even Wonwoo wasn’t quite sure why he was saving the person who had only caused him trouble within the past week, but he knew that if he didn’t act fast, news of their living situation would spread quickly.

Everything was wet. The three girls had poured water bottles over you a few seconds prior as you dismissed their questions. You were currently sat on your knees, head facing towards the cold concrete floor as they tormented you.

“Don’t act fucking stupid, Chohee saw you enter the faulty lounge with Wonwoo earlier.” Byeol harshly spoke. She began to feel annoyed by your lack of compliment with their interrogation.

“We don’t want to get physical with you, Y/n,” Soyul crouched down to meet your eyes,”If you tell us what your relationship is with Wonwoo, we’ll leave you alone.”

“We have no relation with each other.” You lied, and it was obvious you were lying. Soyul raised her right hand and slapped your cheek firmly. You gasped, bringing your hand towards the stinging sensation that was left on the side of your face.

Chohee spoke after,“You know, we do this to protect Wonwoo.”

“He’s already broken and scarred from his childhood,” Byeol continued while putting her hands on her chest,”He doesn’t need his heart broken by a stupid girl.”

You needed a lot of courage to voice out the words you wanted to say, but when thinking about Wonwoo and how you knew he despised the pitiful attention of his peers, you softly muttered it out, “He doesn’t need your protection.”

“What?”

“Don’t you think he’s experienced enough pity in his life?” You spoke in a louder voice, “He doesn’t need your protection or the fake empathy you have for him. When someone is doing their best, you should encourage them, not say ‘poor you.’ Do you even know who he is on the inside?”

The three remained quiet. Knowing you were right, you continued on, “All you focus on are his looks but have you ever had a conversation with him? A conversation that includes laughing, fighting, and bonding? He won’t show the slightest interest in someone who only cares for his appearance, so stop trying!”

Byeol muttered under her breath,“You’ve really fucking pissed me off.” She grabbed ahold of your t-shirt collar and raised a fist in the air. You closed your eyes shut, thinking this was the end until the sound of the storage room door opening caught everyone’s attention.

When the three girls had gasped, you were curious as to who had caught them in the act. When you opened your eyes, you were amazed by the sight in front of you. Maybe it was luck or maybe you meant something to him, but behold, Jeon Wonwoo himself was there to rescue you.

Byeol let go of your collar, making you stumble on the ground as Wonwoo made his way towards you. He crouched down to meet your eye level, pausing to get a glimpse of the redness on your cheeks,“Can’t leave you alone for even a second, huh?” He grinned slightly when getting up from his position, later extending his hand out for you, “Stand up, angel, the game is about to start.”

You accepted his hand and stood up next to him, flattening out your clothes shortly after when Soyul questioned,“A-Angel?”

The words he was about to say were never discussed and quite frankly, you never expected them to be said in your lifetime. As Wonwoo pulled you closer to him, he bluntly said, “She’s my girlfriend. If you have any problems with that, talk to me first.”

“No way..”

“You’re lying…”

“Let’s leave, Y/n.” He took a hold of your hand once more and walked you out of the dark storage room, leaving the three girls appalled by the encounter.

When the two of you were out of sight from the trio, you whispered to Wonwoo, “What the fuck is going on?”

“Trust me and play along.” He whispered back, guiding you towards the stadium. The cheers had turned into loud whispers when you entered with Wonwoo. Your eyes had spotted Jun, who was just as shocked by the sight.

When you noticed Wonwoo was guiding you towards the benches, you mentioned, “I have to go to the bleache-“

“No,” he interrupted, “It’s safer on the benches.”

You slowly nodded, not sure of why he cared so much all of a sudden, but you obeyed and sat on the benches as told. Wonwoo cupped your face, causing you to hiss at the pain that was still prevalent from the slap. He furrowed his eyebrows while asking, “What did they do to you?”

“Just poured water on me…” You lied so he wouldn’t worry more.

“You must be cold, here,” He reached into his duffle bag,”Use my jacket.”

When he found the thick piece of fabric in his duffle bag, he automatically pulled it out and placed his letterman jacket around your shoulders. Wonwoo kneeled onto the grass after noticing that you were embarrassed by the newfound attention that was being put on the two of you. He softly spoke, hoping it would calm you down,“Hey, I appreciate what you said to them earlier.”

“Y-you heard?”

He nodded before continuing, “I realized pretending to be strangers makes things harder, so Y/n, will you be my fake girlfriend?”

“F-Fake?” You whispered, making sure that what you heard actually came out of Wonwoo’s mouth.

“Why?” He asked, leaning closer to your face to tease you, “Do you want it to be real?”

To anyone who wasn’t part of the conversation, it looked as if you and Wonwoo were really together. Seungkwan, Soonyoung, and Jun watched in confusion. You’d never shown interest in Wonwoo, nor mentioned him in conversations. Why were they finding out just now?

Your cheeks grew red, you disliked that Wonwoo had made you flustered at that moment. When he noticed this, he chuckled before backing up, “Got you.”

“You piece of shi-”

“Wonwoo!” A voice had yelled out, causing both yours and Wonwoo’s attention to shift. Jogging towards the two of you was Jihoon, a known childhood friend of Wonwoo. When he reached the benches, he huffed out, “The game’s about to start, the Captain isn’t too happy.”

Before leaving, Wonwoo cupped your cheeks once more and told you, “Stay here, okay?”

His soft lips pressed against your forehead, causing your stomach to tingle. He left you at the benches soon after. You tugged at his jacket (which smelled of his cologne) while watching him leave to attend the group huddle.

That night, you realized that maybe what you felt for Wonwoo wasn’t pure hatred—that maybe you felt something that wasn’t strictly platonic.
