On February 5th, 2025, there will be nationwide protests in the US against the fascist oligarchy that has stolen our government. There will be gatherings at each of the state capitol buildings, as well as in a few other cities in select states. There are alternative actions you can take, too, if you cannot be present at your capitol.

Here is a Reddit page outlining some of the details. Browse the subreddit for locations and times pertaining to your state; state-specific tags are there to organize the results. There is also a Discord page.

We can do this. We can fight back, but we need as many people as possible. Right-wing Twitter accounts have already been discovered making plans to sabotage the movement. Make sure their plans fail. Show the government how strong we are when we band together.

I've generally been treating this blog as a refuge from...all the things. But since posts about these "protests" have been going around, I wanted to share these words of caution in the interest of helping everyone stay safe. There is definitely work to be, but we need to be smart about it. No charging into territory blind.

Protests scheduled in every state capitol on the 5th of February (Wednesday). People will be there, lots of them. Some cities are already started. Be prepared. Spread the word. We’re seeing censorship from platforms and attempts to sow division and doubt from individuals, just the same as we see all the time here on tumblr: it’s business as usual by now. Do not be deceived: the people are mad, and they will be there.

Check the weather. It will be cold. It might be snowing. Dress in layers, in case you need to ditch one later. Wear long socks or tights so your outer pants don’t freeze your legs. Bring tissues and heat packs, and bring more to share if you can afford it. Wear a mask and sunglasses. It will be loud. Wear earmuffs or a beanie for your ears and head, and bring muffs or plugs for your hearing.

Bring your phone, but turn it off, and keep it in a faraday cage if you can. Airplane mode at a minimum. Leave your car behind if you can help it; they can track you using abundant license plate cameras. Bring a paper map of the area so you won’t need your phone, and definitely familiarize yourself with the area beforehand (probably safe to do online).

Yes, some of them will become riots. Yes, there will be martial law. Yes, it needs to be done anyways. Other counties are rooting for us. We are not alone, but we cannot sit back.
