As well as my work on Marvel Earth-6161, I had an idea for a post-apocalyptic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story!
The idea for this came from a few things. 1.) I’d always wanted to write a TMNT story, but always thought, “But what could I do that hasn’t been done before?” And as a horror writer, the idea of inserting them into that genre always intrigued me. 2.) playing as Donatello during a majority of Chapter 5 Season 3 of Fortnite! Ya know… the season a lot of people hated? The one with the cars… well I LOVED it. And pictured the Turtles thriving in a world where Donnie was modding vehicles and building all kinds of fun contraptions for them. And 3.) just after Chapter 5 Season 3 of Fortnite came out, I saw Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Which is still, hands down, my movie of the year. All of these things, along with my love for the Fallout series of video games gave me the idea to do a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles story that took place in a world that was post-nuclear fallout.
Now, just like my Iron Man post from a few days ago, I’d like ideas!! Any and all ideas are welcome!! I think it could be fun to do what the original Mirage run of TMNT did in the 80s, parodying the gritty and dark comics of the time and instead, with this fan project, parody the gritty and dark films of the 80s.
I do have some ideas. I think Splinter should be human in this version as I’ve always loved him being human before his mutation as opposed to him being a rat first. It’s something that separates him from the boys. And the other idea is that the turtles will be created from experiments performed by Baron Draxum.
Oh and because the world has ended, the turtles won’t NEED to hide, as there are other mutants in the world at large. I think I’ll have them live in a similar area to Mutant Town from the IDW comics. Except it’s more slum-like. Showing humanities neglect of the mutant community.
Anyway, IDEAS. GO!!

Turtle Soup #1, September 1987, cover by Stephen Bissette (pencils), Peter Laird (inks), and Kevin Eastman (colors)
Turtle Soup was an anthology where Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman invited various creators to give their take on the Turtles, whether in a pin-up or a short story.

Come and enjoy stories that will remind you of the 40 years of turtle history.
Tumblr media
SCORE: 10 *
* Assuming you are familiar with these iterations.
This is a strange read, and curiously, there are three or four highlights for me, and they are not exactly the ones you would imagine.
Spoilers after the break...
The first story by Kevin Eastman is in the Mirage section of the book but... well... I'll leave at that... I wouldn't call it the Mirage we knew.
Tumblr media
There is a story by Lawson and Lavigne with the Rat King that... it's fun. But, you know... I wouldn't even try to fit it in canon... the amount of continuity physics you need to bend to place this story is not worth the time. Just enjoy as a new story by these two iconic Mirage artists.
Tumblr media
This other story by Tristan H. Jones and Paul Harmon requires more analysis. I'll revisit it on my gang wars video and try to give it more context... but unfortunately... it's just too vague. All I can say for sure is that it happens in the future of that incomplete saga, but the narrator just takes too many artistic choices to be taken at face value.
Also... I believe this is the first official (frontal) appearance of Agent Bishop (unless I got the character wrong, but Jones already tried to introduce him in this saga). I think he is still holding on to it, and I really hope he gets to tell his story. I wouldn't mind a mini-series... just saying!
Tumblr media
The Volume 3 story was... not for me. The dialogue alone felt tired.
Tumblr media
The Archie adventure was short, eventful, and funny... and it looks amazing too!
In just four pages a new character was introduced and... a new love story was implied! And it's not just a gratuitous cameo... this is a funny sequence.
Tumblr media
The Saturday Morning Adventures (the de facto 87 story) looks amazing as usual, but I didn't find the story that interesting. However, it started a theme that would run across most of the stories in this special after this one: Master Splinter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2003 story is a... loose canon?
Hun is Slash, and Shredder is back... so make of that what you want. All I'm going to say is that this felt a lot like watching the beginning of a 2003 episode, with the narration setting the tone.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The 2012 story was one of the least interesting in the previews, but I have to say... it was probably one of the best. It brought back a villain and it technically serves as an excuse to continue the series?
But to me the best thing about the story is the art. I am surprised Ciro Nieli didn't do more comic book work for the Turtles all these years. In fact, if they somehow decided to continue the 2012 universe in 2D in this style... I'm all in. Well, who am I kidding... I would be in anyway... but this looks amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Andy Suriano did probably the most interesting story in the book. Now, I am not sure if his style doesn't translate well to static panels or what the problem is with the comic format... but it doesn't matter... this small story brought in a lot of things that ended on the editing floor after the show's second season was reduced to a few more episodes. There was a rumor about a female turtle, and not only it is here in all its glory, but there is also a brother?
And come on... it's so Lou Jitsu to die with a cliffhanger.
Tumblr media
There are two IDW stories. One is another Splinter story, but the other one is perhaps one of the best in this book.
The Ronda Pattison story takes place just before the Armageddon game, and it shows the five turtles in full sibling dynamic (even Jennika). It was refreshing to see these turtles having fun for a change.
There are no stories by the new team, but... well... that's just starting.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, which debuted May 5, 1984 at Portsmouth Mini-Con. The initial print run was an immediate sell-out and it's safe to say the rest is history as the Turtles went on to conquer film, television, toys and video games!

HELLO TUMBLR!! Been a while, coming at you live with some more thought’s on the, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” franchise!! Specifically two iterations: the IDW Comics and the film, TMNT: Mutant Mayhem.
I’m just gonna come right out and say it, I’ve been seeing a lot of people saying that Mutant Mayhem has a Hamato Yoshi problem— and while it MIGHT, it also MIGHT NOT.
I have a theory. I know, in the age of New Rockstars MCU theories, that’s not very popular to say, and I may sound crazy for even saying any of this, but it is just a theory.
So as we know, Hamato Yoshi is incredibly important to the mythos of the TMNT, and yet… Mutant Mayhem is the only iteration of this universe to have him be completely absent. Does not exist. Not even a reference to him. But why is this? Splinter’s just a street rat? Wasn’t a pet? Interesting. But that brings me to my theory…
In the IDW Comics, Splinter is both a pet rat AND also Hamato Yoshi. To simplify: Yoshi was a man who lived centuries ago, in Feudal Japan. He and his four sons were murdered by the Shredder and reincarnated in the present day as a rat and four baby turtles. Maybe Mutant Mayhem doesn’t have a Hamato Yoshi problem, maybe Splinter’s been lying about their true origin. Leaving out important details because he doesn’t see the need. To him, Shredder isn’t around anymore. He doesn’t see the need to tell his sons about the cosmic origin of their existence.
It would explain how he and the turtles are so skilled when it comes to fighting. Watching martial arts films and youtube tutorials doesn’t make you a ninja! Ninja training does. If I’m right, I’m very excited for the future of the Mutant Mayhem universe, and if I’m wrong? I’m still super excited! I think it’d be neat if the Splinter/Shredder dynamic was shaken up. Though, I do hope I’m right. The reincarnation origin is my favorite so far.
Anyway, that’s it! Hope ya enjoyed my ramblings. Love ya’ll. PEACE!

They’ve meant so many different things to people through their iterations. The wisdom, the knowledge, the passion, the empathy. Two sides of our mind and two sides of our heart, all trying to do what’s right. Independently formidable and stronger united. They’re a few months older than I am and I don’t remember my life without them- my idols, then my peers, and now time has gifted me this new lens of seeing them as the children they’ve always been, and it’s awkwardly on that note I say happy 40th birthday fellas. And sorry I haven’t drawn you for almost 2 decades.

"Alone", preview of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 40th Anniversary Comics Celebragion, poem by Edgar Allan Poe illustrated by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman
From childhood’s hour I have not been As others were—I have not seen As others saw—I could not bring My passions from a common spring— From the same source I have not taken My sorrow—I could not awaken My heart to joy at the same tone— And all I lov’d—I lov’d alone— Then—in my childhood—in the dawn Of a most stormy life—was drawn From ev’ry depth of good and ill The mystery which binds me still— From the torrent, or the fountain— From the red cliff of the mountain— From the sun that ’round me roll’d In its autumn tint of gold— From the lightning in the sky As it pass’d me flying by— From the thunder, and the storm— And the cloud that took the form (When the rest of Heaven was blue) Of a demon in my view—

TMayNT Day 17 - Best Mikey from all incarnations
Finally I got around to doing some art for @tmaynt!
Mirage Mikey is an absolute sweetheart, I love him so much! He's caring and thoughtful (remember the Christmas episode in TMNT 2003 where he saves the toys for the orphanage and adopts Klunk? That's from the Mirage comics!), creative and a bit spacey (there's an issue that's entirely just a story he made up), full of energy and passion and generally just a lovable goofball!
