The show started if not on time, then way earlier than Dir en grey usually does. Yuchi, Takumi, Mika and UtA walked on stage in silence, swirvingly grabbing their instruments. Snow or ash was falling on screen, and the tour title appeared. Then, when everyone was ready, Kyo finally entered. All members were wearing their outfits from the MOAN music video, except that Kyo didn't have the head piece/veil. Instead, he had stuck pink braids drawn back almost like large bows, except that there was no knot visible. I'm quite sure that there were two on each side of his head. Based on the reflection of the light on his skin, I'm also certain that his hair is still shaved completely, and there was a clear demarkation between the circle on the top and his blank temples, so that crown of haywires with flames or fake hair seems to be tattooed permanently.
For makeup, Kyo looked like he had black dots around his eyes, but he mainly had sparkling white circular shapes around his eyebrows and the top of his cheeks.
What I remember from Margaret is all the glitter and sparks being shown on screen.
Gloss was surprisingly bare when it comes to stage effects. There were about seven poles coming down from the ceiling with a lightbulb at their end, and that was basically what was used for the entire song.
Aishita Shinzou was the beginning of a very pop-y bunch. Kyo bounced on stage like we saw him do in one of the videos from August 2023. The lighting was a mix of green and red. I remember that when singing "aiseru", he placed his hand near his crotch and swayed seductively, not sure how to better describe it though hah. The song ends with Kyo inside a pyramidal cage made of green light beams, which he stays inside until the next song, as if truly imprisoned in the moment.
Then Candis came, and the instrumental introduction was definitely a bit different than in the footage included in EROSIO. Like some of the instruments didn't make enough sound.
Anyway, Candis was extra special because they projected the venue at which the PV was recorded above and around the members, so bam: suddenly we were teleported on set. There were seemingly screens hung everywhere to show excerpts of the PV too. And when comes the time for Iya Iya Iya, that kanji pops up behind/above Kyo in the empty space that was there.
Valentina then starts without further ado, like the band wants to give the audience no rest and if they're already playing around in their bags for one penlight, might as well get that out of the way then, in the spirit of minimizing noise.
Aaaah, Valentina. All the classic moves, Kyo's right leg folding high at the knee to hit both ankles together in emphasis of "Lie Lie Lie Lie" and the "ii" in "Nakanai watashi ga ii?", although that one is definitely accompanied by a reprobatory fist on the hips, Kyo folding his arm up and down like a chicken wing. Dance!
When the one other pop song started playing after that medley, I had a very bad feeling. It was not subtle at all, the way they grouped all the pop songs together early in the show. I apprehended how the rest would be the polar opposite. And, well...
Anyway, for now, MOAN had Kyo gesture everything like in the PV, and parts of it were projected on the screen too.
I don't remember exactly for which songs, but Kyo did a lot of robotic dance moves and he seemed to hop left and right often too, as a default.
Kuchi ni ringo also had almost no stage effect. I think it was in this song that the crowd on the first floor was covered by a layer of blue light, making them completely disappear and giving the impression that there was a lake or something. And very oddly, at no point was there any red used. In fact, right after Kyo sings "That's not the bright red color I want", there's a blue light that erupts in the centre of the stage. Like, no kidding, that's not red at all. At the end, Kyo formed a kind of wide crystal shape with his index fingers and thumbs, which he would move from his abdomen outward in different directions. "Ah I want a womb" incessantly.
...aftermath on an orange autumn background...
But more important is what happened after aftermath. Kyo stepped back to his equipment next to Takumi's and promptly sat down on a plushy but otherwise ordinary high stool chair. Then, a man walked up to him from the side of the stage while the other members played a session, improvised or not. The man wore the tour long shirt, I believe, and he never turned to look at us. He pampered Kyo's forehead and cheeks two or three times with a white towel, as if to absorb the sweat, and he also (re)applied lip stick on Kyo. It was a bit funny to witness, because Kyo kept the same posture, hands by his sides legs not moving at all, hanging straight from the seat. It was as if he was a doll, but it seemed like he minimally parted his lips to help the man apply the lipstick. Rather than a doll, that gave mostly the image of a spoiled child or something. It happened for more than one layer, so maybe gloss was applied, rather than retouching the colour every time. The man swiftly left and Kyo walked hurriedly to his mic to sing lyrics that ring a bell to me, but I couldn't tell you what they were anymore.
Houmonsha X was amazing. The PV was projected on the screen. I had to remember to breathe after a while, which I'd apparently forgotten when the song started.
At first, Kyo sang before the lyrics appeared on the screen, as per the PV's English subtitles, but he seemed to fix his timing after a couple of lines. I hadn't felt that he was too early compared to the instruments, but it was otherwise done seamlessly.
Rongai had to be one of the songs where robot dance moves were used. It was intense of course, with bright spots of light appearing at every climax. At the end, Kyo only sang the first and third/last "I kill time with the likes of you", which seemed fond just because he was staring at the crowd, so it gave the impression that he didn't mean it as much as in the recorded song. And of course, there is no reverse lyric being sung or played like in the album version.
Kawattekuremasen deshou ka? came with the surprise of projected images. They showed mainly maximized ice cubes, maybe sparks too. I was somehow too absorbed in this song to memorize much from it. Next time!
Yumemi doro (not Furusaseru - I always confuse the two!) was then played and the movie projected contained a lot of swirls. Kyo dropped to the floor and swirved left and right sloooowly on his way back to a standing position. It was so smooth, effortless despite requiring strength. Oh and he was wearing his beloved pink Margiella heels, by the way. I had actually gone to see an exhibition titled "Beyond Fiber Art" at MOMAK that day and the way his knees moved below his black lace dress really reminded me of the hypnotic flows of fabric that I witnessed earlier. And yo, the other thing about Yumemi doro is thar in the newest recording, Kyo uses more diversified tones of singing than in the demo, but in this live performance, we were able to hear even more intense switches of tones. It was ingenious.
Scarlet also involved a ton of fractal swirls and the sphere of smoke, reminding me again of the art exhibition. It was a rather powerful song too, not necessarily pop but the emphasis created by showing just a couple of the lines on screen, like: "I want love" stressed the need even more.
I'm not sure in which songs anymore, but Kyo really put his hand between his legs more than once during this show. I thought Kashikomi Kashikomi would be played eventually as a reference to that, but sadly not.
Tada, mada, watashi. was performed with such strength and emotion that it was as though it was the band's eternal, signature classic. Breath-taking, really.
Hakudaku came next and it exacerbated my feeling that we were being driven to a dire end. The video showed a young woman whose face seemed to be scarred or disfigured at least on one side.
Uso was up after that and damn, of course it was emotional too. Being on the second floor/balcony, I appreciate that when Kyo gestures the "To the eyes set on tomorrow" up to us. I think that the screen displayed some sepia scenes that gave the impression of being memories.
Then, a longer pause than usual happened, with Kyo gripping his mic stand. Finally, the piano notes of Kokyuu started and ugh, I had imagined that it would be an ending song, if the band wanted to be cruel. They were ruthless. Fuck. Most of the lyrics appeared on screen both in Japanese and the English translation underneath, right in front of Kyo. At times, he stretched his arms out to the sides as if to seize possession and emphasizs those specific lines. I think it was in this song or in another with lyrics of a similar meaning, but Kyo grabbed his chest tight with both hands when relating that he couldn't be like others. He broke down for a bit with sorrow in the middle of the song. Until...
"The sadness will never end . . For whom?"
Right after uttering this in the most soft-spoken way, like in the album recording, Kyo walked off the stage. No "oyasumi", no mic drop, no nothing. For whose sake will the sadness never end, on his birthday? Puncture my heart.
Having abided by the rule to stay quiet during the show, it took Mika waving goodbye widely for us to start clapping. It continued until or during the instrumental of Margaret, clearly doubling though as everyone joined in when sukekiyo's name was displayed on the screen. The announcement was made for the July tour of four consecutive days in Kyoto.
I wish they would have played The Hole, Frameout kara no and Kashikomi Kashikomi, but I guess there's hope for a different setlist tomorrow?

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His body struggles to move through the crowd of bodies as he makes his way to her, constantly trying to squeeze between people. “Found you!” He chuckles, taking a deep breath from all of the pushing and shoving.
“And you wanted me to dance…” She scoffs playful as the red cup lifts to her lips, Theo’s body leans swiftly over the countertop they both rested against, his forearm grazing against hers.
After a couple of minutes of painful silence his eyes dart to the ping pong table, where their classmates were. “Do you wanna go play?” He nudges her slightly to catch her attention and her head whips to focus on the activity he pointed at.
“Beer pong?” Her voice questioned
“Yeah, it could be fun!” He hoped to god she didn’t reject him, considering how all she’s been doing was sitting and observing everyone at the party
“Hmm, sure why not” Theo sighs in relief when she agrees to the offer with a light shrug and smiles, his hand interlocking with hers (making sure he didn’t touch the still wrapped one from the coffee incident) and leading her through the crowd.
Her body tensed as he gently guides her through the crowded living space, his hand tightening when it was too hard to push through the bodies. The blood rushes to her cheeks and her smile starts to become more prominent.
“Hey, Theo! Was wondering where you were” Keeho, who had just got done missing his turn, swung his arm around Theo in a childish gesture.
“Had to do something first, my bad.”His eyes dart down to the locked fingers between the both of you then goes back up to link with Theo’s nervous eyes “Hm, I see now…:
“Manager” Keeho smiles
“Hey, Kyo!” Y/n fastly waves back with her free hand
“Are you guys here to play?”
“Yeah, thought we could give it a try” Y/n says again and Theo nods.
“Cool, we just finished this round so you guys get next. Y/n, you’re on Sumin’s team. Theo, you’re on mine,” Keeho explains and Y/n quickly unlocks her hand from Theo’s grasp to walk over to the right side of the table.
“Y/n, right?” Sumin points.
“Yeah! You must be Sumin?” She nods from the introduction.
“Yup, glad to meet you! I think we have a class together, no?”
Y/n’s brain racks at the thought of her, at any familiar feeling “Introduction to Philosophy?” She questions back, the lightbulb in her head brimming with inquiry
“Yes! You sit in front of me most of the time!”
“Right, it’s good to see you!” Y/n says back, giggling a little. “These are my friends! They’ll be on our team.” she nods in solidarity as Sumin hands her a ping pong ball.

i think the way pafl lyrics are written over the course of the series is kinda interesting, i noticed that in the original PAFL the lyrics are written to point to characters via titles, yura is the loser, katya is the monster and sanya is a friendly baseball bat. the later songs dont use such impersonal phrasing and mainly default to "she" "he" "i" or "you" (in kt's guide to coolness dima was "you" and "he" was yura iirc). the rest of the songs are all narrated by one of the chartacters but the first PAFL song doesnt seem to be narrarated by any one character, its very impersonal and the lyrics using "I" more feel like quotes than real narration. something that somewhat helps that impersonal vibe in the first song is that yukari is used instead of any other voicebank (that might be bc ferry got different voicebanks as time went on but shshghsh shut up its my media analysis and i get to be the one drawing pointless conclusions), each voicebank is usually used for different character's songs, ( iroha= olga, dr temnova/ KYO=yura, nikita, (sergei?)/ yuzuki yukari= anya/ GUMI= katya/ Fukase= Dima/ vflower= sanya) and anya doesnt show up in the first PAFL song at all and theres no typical character association with the first PAFL. what i mean is like umm usually you can tell what character the song is leaned on like occams razor is a yura song and the mill is an olga song. the first PAFL has sanya as it's poster-boy and focuses on mainly yura,kt,sanya.
conclusion is that i think this works really well as an introduction :) its impersonal at first and gets a bit of intrigue going before it throws all the characters' problems at you

Genre: The tiniest bit of angst
Tw: none I think
Pairing: Kyo Kaneko x reader (platonic)
Characters: Kyo, you, Ren, Maria, some girl i named Danielle
Story: you've made some nice friends.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Kyo! I'm over here!" you call out cheerfully, waving to get his attention from across the airport.
Turning in response to your voice, he searches the crowd until his eyes lock onto you. A bright smile breaks across his face, and he hastens his steps to reach you.
"(Name)!!" he exclaims, his excitement palpable as he rushes over, clearly delighted to see his childhood friend once again.
With a smile mirroring his, you envelop him in a warm embrace, a rush of fond memories flooding in.
"Long time no see! How was Japan?" he inquires with genuine interest, eager to catch up.
Returning your embrace, he responds with a slight shrug, "It's been around 6 years, I guess? Since you left in 10th grade... Ah! I don’t know!"
"Six years? It felt like an eternity! It was so boring!!" you admit, a touch of nostalgia in your voice.
He teases playfully, "Naturally. After all, I'm your one and only friend."
You defend yourself, "Oh, come on! I've got a bunch of friends!"
Arching an eyebrow, he challenges you with a playful grin, "Prove it. Name two."
After a moment's thought, you respond with a playful grin, "Danielle! She’s my friend!"
He chuckles knowingly, countering, "Danielle's my friend too, so that doesn't count!"
"Hey, unfair!" you protest in mock annoyance.
With an amused roll of his eyes, he takes your hand and guides you forward, his intentions intriguing you.
"So, where are we headed?" you finally break the silence.
He responds with a surprising declaration, "Finding you some friends."
You halt abruptly, accidentally pulling him back and causing a momentary stumble for both of you.
"But I don't want new friends! I'm fine as I am," you object with a playful pout.
He simply nods, undeterred by your response, letting out a small “Uhuh”, and offers his hand to help you up before gently resuming his course.
"Kyoo!!" you playfully whine, your voice echoing through the nearly empty airport as the two of you continue on your way.
-----------------✧------------------
Upon arriving at the mall, he abruptly halted, scanning the surroundings as if in search of something specific.
"What are you looking for, Kyo?" you queried, your face a canvas of confusion.
"People," he replied succinctly, leaving you even more puzzled.
"What?" you pressed for clarification, only to be met with silence from the blue-haired boy.
He wandered about like a disoriented child seeking their parents, until he suddenly came to an abrupt stop. "Is something wrong?" you inquired.
"Ren!" he called out, his voice infused with excitement.
A man? An alien? The tall, horned figure turned to face Kyo and broke into a smile.
"Kyo!" he greeted warmly.
"Hey, so this is the person I mentioned. (Name)! They just got back from Japan!" Kyo introduced you.
"Nice to meet you, (Name)! I'm Ren!" Ren extended his friendly welcome.
"Yeah... Hi, Ren," you mumbled, a gnawing unease settling in your stomach.
"Oh my god! Kyo and Ren?" a melodious, feminine voice reached your ears.
You turned to see a... child? She was striking with her pink hair and eyepatch.
"Oh! Who's this?" she inquired.
"(Name), meet Maria. I was telling you both about each other. Maria, this is (Name)," Kyo performed the introductions.
"Ah, hello!" Maria greeted you with enthusiasm.
"Hello to you too," you responded politely.
"Oh! Guess what, guys? Did you see the new game that just dropped?" she bubbled with excitement.
"Wait, today? Seriously?" Kyo blurted out in astonishment.
"You told me it was coming out next week!" he added, pointing an accusatory finger at Maria.
"Are you seriously blaming me right now?" Maria retorted, her indignation evident.
"Yeah, I am!" Kyo shot back, the playful argument escalating.
Watching Kyo effortlessly connect with others hits you. Why can't you do the same? What's your purpose here? He seems perfectly fine without you... Does he truly need his old friend when he's already found new friends?
You turned your gaze away, overwhelmed by a rush of shame.
"Um... I think I'll head to the bathroom real quick," you excused yourself.
"Sure thing, just don't get lost," Kyo replied casually.
You hummed in response, swiftly turning and walking away.
As you walked, the earlier sense of shame transformed into a lingering sadness.
"Yeah... Why would he still need me? I'm just holding onto him..." you whispered to yourself, the words echoing in the hollow corners of your thoughts.

Another OC Introduction!
The first child oc i introduce! Of course, it has to be the ultimate main character of all my child OCs!
Mikhailov Touma!
Tumblr media
This picrew ended up being very accurate! Especially the wild, fluffy haircut and his bright grin!
Touma is one of Namimori's kids! He's 10, so he's still in Nami primary school, but that doesn't stop him from having fun! Or from following Hibari Kyoya like a curious puppy!
Touma is in an entirely different anime genre than the rest of khr. He is in a coming of age sports anime! Specifically soccer! In fact, Touma is the captain of Nami Primary's soccer team! And he is always looking for more kids for his team!
Touma follows Hibari so much that he eventually meets Fuuta and, of course, offers him a spot in his soccer team! Fuuta is hesitant at first, but Touma is determined to befriend him, even if he won't join his team! Fuuta can't help liking Touma's loud, happy personality and his open hearted attitude.
Despite Touma's loud personality and his tendency to not read the room, he has many friends and is a well known and much beloved part of Namimori's community! Touma even always tries to befriend and include awkward and shy kids. 🥹
Hibari, or Kyo-nii as Touma so bravely calls him, suspects Touma may someday be one of the next Demons of Namimori. He already has a loyal following and some power in Namimori's community! And Kyo-nii happens to like Touma a bit.
Touma might have a storm flame, or he might not! He hasn't gone active yet.

Mesmerized
little warmup drabble!!! modern high school AU where Hikaru is a theater student and Kyo is a top student on the student council :)
if you guys are interested I’ll turn this into a full length fic??? i wanted to gauge interest bc ive never written a modern AU before, so im just posting the introduction for now 🫶 let me know if that’s something u guys wanna see!
this is so extremely inspired by the minific @knyinfinity wrote me for my birthday, i keep going back to reread it 🥺💜🪲 ily kat thank you again!!!!
———————————————————————
Kyojuro Rengoku was a good student.
A great student, actually. A perfect 4.0, a member of the Student Council, and an active student leader at Kimetsu Academy. He was a model student, the ideal academic.
Kyojuro’s academic life kept him very busy. Between his hobbies, his studies, and his extracurriculars, Kyojuro had never had much time for a love life. Frankly, it had never bothered him very much- he’d never felt much attraction to any of the girls at his school, anyway. He simply didn’t have time for a love life- he had a legacy to uphold, after all. Crushes were time-consuming, so it only benefited Kyojuro that he’d never had one. He didn’t think about it much further than that- it gave him a weird feeling he wasn’t quite sure how to handle. So, Kyojuro simply ignored it. Problem for Future Rengoku, he figured.
And then, Kyojuro made a fateful mistake, one accidental decision that changed his entire life. Without meaning to, he got himself swept up in the most confusing emotional maelstrom of his entire life.
And all he did was go see the school play.
In all honesty, Kyojuro doesn’t even remember what the play was. He had only gone because one of the underclassmen he tutored, a girl named Mitsuri Kanroji, had led set design, and she had been very excited for him to see her efforts. Kyojuro had told her they were excellent, but frankly, he barely paid attention to them at all. All Kyojuro could look at was the lead male actor.
He was stunning. The way he moved with such passion, the way his eyes sparkled when he spoke, the way his deep indigo hair shone like waves of dark velvet beneath the spotlight… Kyojuro was utterly mesmerized. As soon as the man walked onstage, as soon as his first lines came from his mouth, Kyojuro couldn’t even begin to imagine paying attention to anything else. He felt like he’d been underwater all his life, and looking at this man onstage was his first breath of air. He felt like he’d die, he’d absolutely just die, there’s no way he could go on if he didn’t at LEAST learn this guy’s name.
What the hell was wrong with him?

1. Ares Sohma (Ram of Aries): A fiery and impulsive leader whose curse drives him to anger and combat.
2. Gemini Sohma (Twins of Gemini): A dual personality curse where the individual embodies two conflicting spirits.
3. Libra Sohma (Scales of Libra): A cursed peacemaker who suffers whenever they are unable to resolve disputes around them.
4. Aquarius Sohma (Water Bearer): Possesses the ability to manipulate water but suffers an emotional detachment due to the curse.
5. Scorpio Sohma (Scorpion of Scorpio): A mysterious and intense individual cursed with poisonous relationships, both figurative and literal.
These cursed descendants, like the Chinese Zodiac Sohmas, transform into their respective spirit forms when emotionally overwhelmed. Together, the American and Japanese Sohmas must uncover the ancient ties between their families and the origin of their curses.
---
Themes and Character Dynamics
Cultural Exchange: Tohru acts as a bridge between the two cursed families, finding parallels between their struggles while offering her unique perspective on love, forgiveness, and healing.
The X-Gene Connection: The curse and mutation share common origins, perhaps tied to ancient experimentation or mystical intervention. Xavier mentors the group, emphasizing the need for self-acceptance.
Tohru’s Growth: Through her trials at the academy, Tohru evolves from the gentle, empathetic girl we know into a strong, confident leader who uses her abilities to unite these broken families.
---
Key Story Arcs
1. The Hellenistic Curse Mystery: The Sohmas discover the origin of the Hellenistic Zodiac curse and its connection to the X-gene. Perhaps an ancient mutant with zodiacal powers created the curses to seal their own overwhelming energy.
2. Conflict and Unity: A clash between the Japanese and American Sohmas showcases their contrasting worldviews, culminating in mutual understanding and camaraderie.
3. Tohru’s Final Test: Tohru faces a trial of sacrifice, where she must risk herself to break the cycle of curses. This test could involve bridging the metaphysical world of the Zodiac spirits and the real world.

Chapter 1: Arrival in America
Tohru arrives in a sprawling campus nestled in the forests of upstate New York. The Xavier Academy is an impressive fusion of ancient architecture and futuristic technology. Her companions—Momiji, Kisa, Hiro, Yuki, and Kyo—are awed but also wary, sensing an unfamiliar energy that resonates with their curses.
Meeting Professor Xavier: Xavier greets them warmly, explaining that the academy is a haven for those with extraordinary abilities. He reveals that Tohru’s acceptance is based on more than academic merit—he believes she has a latent X-gene that makes her unique even among mutants.
The First Test: During orientation, Tohru is asked to participate in a harmless training exercise in the Danger Room. To her surprise, her latent powers manifest when she calms a simulated catastrophe, her presence dispelling chaos like a soothing balm.
---
Chapter 2: The American Sohmas
The next day, Tohru meets the academy’s resident misfits: the cursed descendants of the Hellenistic Zodiac. Unlike the Sohmas, they’ve embraced their curses as part of their identities, though the emotional toll is evident.
Ares Sohma (Ram of Aries): A brash and competitive young man who constantly challenges Kyo, seeing him as a rival.
Gemini Sohma (Twins of Gemini): A quiet girl who switches personalities unexpectedly, causing confusion and tension.
Libra Sohma (Scales of Libra): A gentle mediator who is drawn to Tohru’s kindness but hides her own struggles with self-doubt.
Aquarius Sohma (Water Bearer): An aloof individual with a deep understanding of the curses but a tendency to push others away.
Scorpio Sohma (Scorpion of Scorpio): A mysterious figure who keeps to themselves, watching from the shadows.
Tohru’s innate empathy bridges the gap between the two groups, though tensions flare as cultural misunderstandings and personal insecurities arise.
---
Chapter 3: The Curse Connection
As the groups get to know each other, they uncover startling similarities between their curses. Both the Chinese and Hellenistic Zodiacs stem from an ancient pact made by their ancestors, designed to protect humanity from a powerful mutant who sought to control celestial energies.
The Origin: This mutant, known as Astralis, used their abilities to manipulate the stars, creating the Zodiac spirits to serve as their enforcers. When the spirits rebelled, Astralis cursed their descendants, binding them to the cycle of transformation and emotional torment.
Professor Xavier’s Insight: Xavier reveals that Astralis may still exist, their consciousness scattered across the cosmos, subtly influencing the cursed families.
---
Chapter 4: Trials and Growth
Xavier organizes a series of trials to help the cursed individuals confront their fears and harness their abilities. These challenges are tailored to each character, pushing them to their limits.
Tohru’s Trial: She faces a simulation of her worst fear—being unable to help the people she

Starting Point for the Story:
Chapter 1: The American Sohma Family
In the heart of a bustling city, the American Sohma family lived an outwardly ordinary life. But beneath the surface, each member bore a secret—a curse tied to the 12 Hellenistic Zodiac. This curse, passed down through generations, transformed family members into their respective zodiac animals under specific circumstances.
Evelyn Sohma, a 16-year-old high school student, had recently discovered her role as the Aries of the family. With a fiery spirit and determination, she began to unravel the mystery of the curse. Her journey started one fateful evening when she accidentally transformed into a ram during an emotional outburst.
Chapter 2: The Origin of the Curse
The Sohma curse traced its roots back to ancient times, where a powerful sorceress, angered by a betrayal, cursed twelve individuals with the traits of the Hellenistic Zodiac. These cursed individuals were bound to their zodiac animals, forced to live dual lives filled with both extraordinary abilities and burdensome limitations.
Chapter 3: Family Dynamics
Evelyn's interactions with her family were complex. Her mother, Serena Sohma, was the Cancer of the family—nurturing and protective, yet struggling with her own fears. Her younger brother, Leo Sohma, embodied the energy and charisma of a lion, constantly challenging the boundaries of their curse. Each family member had their own story, their own battles, and their own ways of coping with the curse.
Chapter 4: The Protagonist's Struggle
Evelyn's life was a balancing act, trying to keep her transformation hidden while searching for a way to break the curse. Her friends at school were unaware of her secret, and she often found herself on the brink of revealing the truth. Her journey was filled with moments of doubt, fear, and a growing sense of responsibility towards her family.
Chapter 5: Discovery and Transformation
As Evelyn delved deeper into the history of the curse, she discovered ancient texts that hinted at a possible solution. Her quest took her on a journey through both physical and emotional landscapes, meeting other cursed individuals and learning from their experiences. She faced numerous challenges, including the temptation to give up and accept her fate.
Chapter 6: Resolution
In the final confrontation, Evelyn faced a choice: to risk everything in a bid to break the curse or to find peace and purpose within it. Her decision would not only impact her own life but also the future of the Sohma family.

The Demon Slayer Timeline, part 01
[Lots of spoilers for obvious reasons]    The Demon Slayer Timeline is actually, a really long one. While it does not follow the totality of the Japanese history, it follows closely the beginning and falling of the Samurai era. While the main plot takes place in the Taisho Era [1912-1924], Sumiyoshi Kamado and Yoriichi Tsugikuni take us to the Sengoku Jidai [1467-1563], and Muzan to the Heian Era [794-1192] ( Muzan drop that skincare routine). But let us start from the beginning.
Muzan says that he was turned into a demon by a doctor in the Heian Era.
Tumblr media
The Heian Era [c.794-1192] is today regarded as one of the times of highest culture, even though it was one of the [many] times of political and military conflicts.  After conflits between the imperial court and the Buddhist sects that were starting to have way too much power the capital was moved from Nara to Heian-kyo - today known as Kyoto - to be safely way. That said, it also started a religious reform with the introduction of new kinds of Buddhism. [with less interest in power obviously, but still kept at a safe distance of the court] Tendai Buddhism and the Pure land Buddhism would start gain attention during this times and the temples would open their doors to every one of every type of social class [as we can  see with Gyomei Himejima, the Rock Hashira that was a blind man that took care of orphan children in a Buddhist temple].    The temples stop having political power, but they also stop having financial aid. So, to survive they had to start exploring the natural resources of their territories. It's not going to take long before the temples start to argue about say territories, and to protect them, they will start to train the farmers that inhabited it, creating what would become a military class.    In 'other hand, in the capital we see a court that is way to centred on herself. The Fujiwara clan was the family with the biggest amount of power. Fujiwara women would marry into the Imperial family in a what could be called genetic colonialization. In the 10th century the Imperial household could not function without the Fujiwara one, starting the tradition were until they reached adulthood the emperor had a Fujiwara regent, so basically it was the Fujiwara that ruled not the Imperial family. But, after 170 years, in 1068 an emperor without a Fujiwara mother sits on the chrysanthemum throne. Go-Sanjo would start to eradicate the Fujiwara by abdicating, leaving the throne to his already adult son. And the same would happen for the next 2 emperors. But by starting to cut ties with the Fujiwara, the imperial family cut off his right arm, and the arm that had the military power, nonetheless.    Japanese had a natural border against enemies, that also meant that they did not have to where to expand their natural territory. So, without new territories to be conquered, the only solution was to start fighting each other for the lands that existed. The families that lived far from the capital were old families that knew their territories like the palm of their hands. With the crescent responsibilities of safeguarding their territories, like with the temples, this Shoen [local provinces] start to train their inhabitants [just like the temples]. We start to see the conquest of territories, and when a clan was defeated, the warriors would start to serve the winning clan. It's the birth of the Samurai Code.    In the 12th century we start to have clans that are ready to go against the imperial court. In 1160 we have the Heiji war, were the Minamoto and Taiga clans are confronting each-other at the capital, and the Taiga family wins, and with entering the court life would become an exact copy of the Fujiwara. The only heir and survivor of the Minamoto clan starts to see the military machine of the Taiga to transform into an aristocratic one wand waits until 1180 to strike back. In 1185 the Minamoto would win the Genpei war staring the 1st ever Shogunate rule.
When Tanjiro goes to the Swordsmith, village, he encounters the mechanical doll made by Kotatsu’s ancestors called “Yoruichii Type Zero” where he goes on saying that that face is familiar to him and Kotatsu says that that technology is from the Sengoku Era.
Tumblr media
Then after that we start to see Tanjiro’s flash backs of his ancestor Sumiyoshi Kamado and his encounter with Yoriichi Tsugikuni and all of that is confirmed with the backstory of Upper Moon 01 - Kokushibo.
Tumblr media
Now, what was the Sengoku Era? Also known as the “warring states era”, the Sengoku-Jidai [c.1467-1573] was the time where the Japanese archipelago was buried on the total anarchy that was the civil war. So, we have a circa 275 years jump.    After the failed rule of the Ashikaga Shogun [Yes because history spoilers, after the Minamoto Shogunate there was more was, more war, and another Shogun], the daimyo [local governors] continue to train their locals to defend their territory. Thanks to the fidelity bonds, the commoners responded to their daimyo, while the daimyo had to respond to the Shogun. Since the Shogun [we don’t even talk about the emperor since he was basically a poppet] no longer protected the daimyos they started to rebel against him saying that he was the first that broke the fidelity law. The commoners, started to learn specific combat techniques - the Kenjutsu, art of the sword - and would develop to what we know call samurai. The word samurai comes from the word “saburau” which means “to serve”, the rising of the samurai class marks the beginning of the feudal era in Japan.  At the beginning, these warriors could have two jobs - be warriors and farmers as an example. When Hideyoshi (we will soon talk about him) came to power he required that they choose one or the other, but as long as a samurai remained loyal they were guaranteed a good life.    The samurai's weapon of choice was a 2-sword combination. The 1st one, was the combat sword, a long one called (surprise) Katana. The 2nd one was a small curved one called Wakizaki that served to cut one’s stomach (note: important I tell you).    Now, while everyone was fighting each other for territory, a man in the middle of the territory started what would soon become the union of Japan. Oda Nobunaga [織田 信長 1534-1582], as the eldest son that everyone thought would not do much. Turns out he collaborated with his uncle to kill his brother, to then kill said uncle. At 25 years old no one was bad mouthing him in Owari anymore. He started then to expand his territories were battle after battle he seemed unstoppable.    Then Nobunaga’s troops were defeated for the 1st time, and Akeshi Mitsuhide [明智光秀 1528-1582] would profit this momentarily loss of confidence on Nobunaga to obligate him to commit suicide. But Mitsuhide's victory was short lived since Toyotomi Hideyoshi [豊臣 秀吉 1527-1598], learning what had succeeded rushed to confront Mitsuhide, ending up defeating him. (Man, I love telling everyone this part cause this is what I call plot twist after plot twist! And we aren't finished yet!) Hideyoshi would be de one finishing what Nobunaga started and re-uniting wall the territory under one ruler.    But, after Hideyoshi's dead, his son was still a minor (literally a baby). He would go on naming 5 daimyos as regents in case 1 rebelled the other 4 would protect the heir. Still that did not stop Tokugawa Ieyasu [徳川家康 1543-1616] from rebelling. At 1600 Tokugawa would win the legendary Sekigahara battle, and in 1603 he would (not so kindly) ask the emperor for the Shogun title. He would go on to establish the longest Shogunate in Japanese history. So as the saying goes: “Nobunaga oiled the national rice cake, Hideyoshi kneaded the dough and, in the end, Ieyasu at down and gobbled it up”.

Interview with KIYOSHI (Guitarist of hide with Spread Beaver, currently active with Lucy, machine, Madbeavers) (summarized)
Published in the hide BIBLE (by Akemi Oshima) 2008
Note: The usual. Still not good at Japanese. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong about something.
Things Kiyoshi tells us:
- Kiyoshi almost met hide for the first time in 1985 at Kagurazaka EXPLOSION. He was with JEWEL, hide was with SAVER TIGER. They knew about each other but didn’t talk. The recording for the omnibus album “Heavy Metal Force III” happened there, which also featured X. He doesn’t remember if he went to see SAVER TIGER play, or if hide came to see Kyoshi’s band. In any case, they did almost, but not quite, meet.
- The first time he saw hide for real was when KYO joined SAVER TIGER. At the time, Kiyoshi was working part time at the Funabashi shopping- and entertainment centre and he made some introductions for KYO, who had finished high school and was also looking for a part time job. At the time, he told Kiyoshi that he had joined SAVER TIGER. And in the blink of an eye, his appearance became extremely extravagant and flashy.
- Kiyoshi himself was jobbing in a jeans store with blonde hair. KYO at first only had his hair bleached. Then, when he joined SAVER TIGER, he rapidly started looking more and more like Michael Munroe and the transformation was quite interesting to watch. It was also around that time that he met hide for the first time.
- Kiyoshi first met hide for real at an Extasy Summit. Kiyoshi performed the first round with VIRUS, the second with Media Youth. When he met hide, whom he hadn’t seen for a long time, hide talked about how cool he thought the guitarist of VIRUS was, and that he figured it had to be Kiyoshi. He didn’t immediately recognize him, since Kiyoshi’s look had changed quite a bit since his time with JEWEL, where he had had much longer hair and a different style.
- They didn’t become friends then because they fought a lot. Kiyoshi shares a story about how much later, they once met by chance at Paranoia Cafe, Mad George’s place in Roppongi, and started drinking together. Hide told Kiyoshi that he was going solo and asked Kiyoshi to come along as a guitarist, which Kiyoshi easily agreed to. But they got drunk, had some sort of disagreement over this or that band, which turned into another fight, and then into a fist fight. Hide told Kiyoshi he never wanted to have anything to do with him again, which Kiyoshi returned in kind. And that was it.
- The reason for the fight was something stupid. Kiyoshi thinks now that he insulted a band hide liked. He figured eventually that he didn’t have this problem with Imai (from Buck Tick), with whom he was in Lucy together, for example, even if they disagreed on something, because they just had different viewpoints. But he and hide came from the same musical background of hard rock, heavy metal, and glam, and so didn’t give each other any kind of leeway in their opinions. Kiyoshi points out that he wasn’t a bad guy, though, it was just that hide quickly turned into a monster when drunk, and back then Kiyoshi hadn’t yet learned to just agree with him at those times to avoid setting him off.
- Three years after this fight, hide called Kiyoshi from L.A. and invited him to play with him again. Once again, Kiyoshi agreed easily. When hide then told him, “Let’s not fight this time,” he just stared at the receiver.
- In the three years in between, they didn’t have any contact at all.
- Kiyoshi agreed to join the tour because he liked hide’s music; he thought it was simple and awesome. He felt like doing something new and didn’t hesitate.
- Kiyoshi is the type who usually forgets about it right away when he fights with someone. He didn’t obsess over the whole “Let’s never meet again!” thing. He doesn’t think there are a lot of people who would hold a grudge like that.
- The next day, Kiyoshi started copying all the songs from the PSYENCE album. His first impression of the album and the tour was that this was something he wanted to do. At that time, he was still listening to music on cassette tapes.
-The first song they rehearsed together was Beauty & Stupid.
- Before that, there was a recording for TV, which happened a lot with hide. Hide, whom Kiyoshi was meeting in person for the first time in years, had just come back from L.A. and was dizzy during the recording due to jet lag. Kiyoshi was doing an interview for the tour pamphlet that day, which was done as a dialogue between two members. He was paired with Joe. This was the first time he met any of them, so he said, “Nice to meet you” and went right into the interview, which upon further thought was a pretty terrible start.
- In the beginning, he thought that everyone in the band was pretty nuts, but interesting. DIE in particular was pretty scary and showed him no courtesy at all. When they met for the first time at NHK, he was in a particularly scary mode. Then, at the end of the day, they all went drinking together.
- hide had just come back from L.A. but he was still in the mood for drinking. He always went drinking after a TV recording, and they had an after party after basically anything. Like three months after the tour, when they did the TV recording for Hi-Ho. Hide’s manager (and brother) Hiroshi mentioned that hide hadn’t had any sleep at all the day before, and hide explained that he had been too excited that he’d get to meet everyone to get any sleep. Kiyoshi was surprised about this, and declared it very stupid, and they laughed a lot about it. It was pretty cute, though.
- None the less, hide was always there for the rehearsals. He liked rehearsals. Since there were many, long songs, the rehearsals also lasted a long time. They ended when Joe declared that he couldn’t move his legs anymore. Their length was not determined by time but by the limits of human durability. Afterwards, they went out to drink.
- During the tour, there were a lot of injuries. Kiyoshi pulled a muscle in his left leg when jumping around on the stage and the doctor recommended using crutches. But since DIE was already in a wheelchair at that time, and he was told it would be okay if he didn’t run, Kiyoshi didn’t use them. Chirolyn also managed to get a secondary fracture somewhere.
- Since DIE wasn’t allowed to drink because of his broken foot, he was the only one who often stayed behind at the hotel room while the others went out for drinks. Hide would worry that he would get bored and have the place they were drinking at send onigiri to DIE’s room, where he had already ordered room service. Since he had already eaten, DIE left the plates outside the door. When hide saw those, he would get embarrassed and take the Onigiri home.
- hide liked to watch their lives on TV. One day Kiyoshi was about to take a shower when hide knocked on the door, telling him to come quickly as soon as he was done. But when he was finished, Kiyoshi forgot about it and had a beer. So hide called him on the phone, asking him again to come over. Kiyoshi went over to his room and hide was like "Doesn't this tuning sound different?" Kiyoshi listened closely and indeed, his guitar was tuned differently. The technician had given him the wrong guitar by mistake, but Kiyoshi had played without noticing it, and the others didn't notice either. Hide noticed now, but even though he pointed it out, he accepted that it was too late to do anything about it anyway.
- Things like that also happened during rehearsal, when only Kiyoshi's guitar would be tuned half a tone too low and the result sounded bad, but while they played, no one noticed. They came to understand that everyone only hears their own sound.
- A part of hide was very nervous, and a part of him was very rough.
- It was okay if Kiyoshi played something different from the original version. The intro to “Tell Me” is monosyllabic with a delay, but since Kiyoshi found that tiresome, he played it differently, and after he explained his motivation, hide gave his okay.
- Kiyoshi would sometimes be able to play everything during rehearsal but not during a live performance. When they went out to drink, hide told him that he understood, because he was in the same position when he was with X, but asked him to play anyway. Except at the end in Yoyogi, where he played the next song because hide asked him to, but then the one after he again didn’t play because he couldn’t
-The chaos on stage was fun.
- hide couldn't sing if he had alcohol the day before, so he didn't drink the day before a live. At the same time, he was the type who needed to drink, but he still didn't do it.
- hide was often nervous about singing; if he was feeling that way before a live, the others would always encourage him.
- hide being hide, he was always ready to mess with someone, and that threat was hanging over all of them during the tour. Kiyoshi started to embrace being involved with hide, and they started to have fun together, even with things they would have fought about before.
- Guitarists were a topic hide was particularly strict about, since he was a guitarist himself. The two of them would talk about how they had to be super thin as guitarists, and if they got old and fat they would stop. Whatever happened, they wanted to remain thin. Because guitarists had to fit an idealized image, and it made their fans sad if they looked at someone whom they used to like  but who got older and gained weight, and then the fans would walk away with a feeling of “I didn’t want to see that”. It was something they both agreed on. They were also strict about technical aspects, but if your looks wasn’t right, then it didn’t matter how good you were otherwise.
- hide would always share exciting music he discovered with Kiyoshi and teach him the things he learned in the US. He’d bring a lot of CDs and stuff back to Japan and showed it to Kiyoshi when he visited.
- hide liked to mess with people doing his lives. Those interludes weren’t planned, but Chirolyn and DIE were always active participants in them.
- When Kiyoshi joined the team, Chirolyn was living not far from him, so he invited him to go home together. They looked like a pair of little boys going home from school. Hide would ask them, “You leave together every evening and seem to be having fun. Where are you going all the time?” and they would tell him, “No, no, we’re actually just going home.” When people looked like they were having fun, hide certainly wanted to join in. To Kiyoshi, this time felt like he was a student who changed from elementary school to the first year of middle school and was taken in by hide’s group of students who were already in year three.
- Hide was the class president as well as the general of brats. But looking back, Kiyoshi feels like he was constantly testing things out, trying to find out how far he could go. Since Kyoshi was similar in nature, that worked out for him.
- There was a balance between fooling around and working hard that everyone understood well.
- At that time, Kiyoshi was worried because his own band, Media Youth, didn’t do well. Just when they debuted, the director of the recording company complained that they didn’t let the vocals stand out. Kiyoshi didn’t quite understand what he meant by that and wanted to take a step back in reaction, thinking that would fix the problem. Just at that time, hide’s band came along and it was an eye-opener to him. He figured that that if he did take a step back in that band, he would die, because he would be killed on stage. At the same time he also realized that stepping back wasn’t necessary. You can’t get more than 100 percent from everyone if you substract from them; you need to add or multiply. He learned that lesson from hide, who immediately noticed that something was different if someone pulled back even a little.
- If, for example, they would slack off during a TV recording because it was just a camera rehearsal, hide would pick up on it immediately and call them out, trying to get them motivated. Because they were the way they were, they wanted to do things the way hide was most comfortable with.
- There were many things Kiyoshi took away from that tour. His way to think about music changed, he reacted differently to small annoyances and had a new view on rock music. This caused a bit of a dilemma when he returned to his own band, but the benefits outweighed that.
- After the tour, Kiyoshi moved to a place close to hide’s apartment. When hide told him Kiyoshi’s new address was close to his own, Kiyoshi didn’t quite understand just how close, but it was just across the street – fatally close. After that, they went drinking together basically every day. Hide would call and tell Kiyoshi that he’d just arrived downstairs. Thinking he was lying, Kiyoshi would then look out of his window to see hide’s Jaguar waiting for him outside the building.
- When the interviewer brings up that according to INA’s interview, Kiyoshi came over to hide’s whenever he was in Japan, Kiyoshi says this isn’t true, he only came when he was invited. He heard that whenever hide was working in his studio and read a magazine that mentioned Kiyoshi, he would say, “Kiyoshi, what are you doing? Cotta call him,” and then do that, so the music magazines allegedly all got hidden from him.
- Since their houses were so close, they often went out to drink, went to the studio together, hide would come to visit Kiyoshi, they’d take turns visiting each other. But regardless of whose home they were in, all they did was watch videos of the PSYENCE tour together. “Let’s watch Matsuyama today,” or “Today, let’s watch the second day at Nagoya.” Without growing tired of it, and without really talking; just laughing a lot.
- When Kiyoshi later started to record his own album, hide constantly came to visit him at the studio. And then he suddenly stopped. A few days earlier, they had gone out drinking together, and hide had hit his head, but he had seemed okay at the time. But then he didn’t come anymore, didn’t call either. Kiyoshi thought that was strange. About a week later, hide showed up again, and when Kiyoshi asked him what he had been doing, he was surprised to learn that hide had been hospitalized with a cracked skull, which Kiyoshi figured must have happened when they were drinking together.
- Kiyoshi joined the Mixed LEMONed Jelly event, and afterwards, they went drinking again. Originally, he had meant to join Sugizo’s band for the event “Fuji Rock”, but that was cancelled due to a typhoon. The day before the event, they arrived at the pension where they were to meet, and there were blood-covered people getting carried in, the heat was on despite it being the middle of summer, and the place gave the impression of a field hospital. The next morning, they got the expected call that the live was cancelled and went home. Hide was in L.A. at that time, but he called Kiyoshi when he got home, saying, “Fuji Rock got cancelled, huh? That’s because you did it when I wasn’t there.”
Kiyoshi: “Did you call just to say that?”
Hide: “Yes.”
Hide had also wanted to participate in that event. He also often said that he wanted to do Lollapalooza. That’s probably what inspired Mixed LEMONed Jelly.
- Then, X Japan had their Last Live at the Tokyo Dome. Hide asked them all to please come, so they all went to see them. At that time, Spread Beaver’s name was still unofficial. The next morning, New Year’s Day, “hide with SPREAD BEAVER” was announced on a full page in the morning paper. They waited for it at a bar, hide, drunk, constantly asking if the paper was there yet. When it finally came, he was very enthusiastic, but in the process spilled wine all over it.
- Kiyoshi had known about the band name before, as hide always referred to the project as Spread Beaver.
- When asked if hide ever said anything about Kiyoshi joining the band “machine”, he points out that that happened in 1999, so no, he did not. But after the PSYENCE tour, Kiyoshi played in the solo band of PENICILLIN’s vocalist HAKUEI. Around that time, HAKUEI met hide in some bar and hide kept going on about how awesome Kiyoshi was. Kiyoshi only learned about that later from HAUKUEI, though. Hide himself never mentioned it to him.
- hide asked Kiyoshi why he was plying for HAKUEI, and Kiyoshi told him it was because he had been invited to do so. Hide just said, “Hm…”, seeing uninterested and distracted. Then he asked, “Did you ever meet HAKUEI-kun?”, and Kiyoshi explained, “I met everyone from PENICILLIN – O, JIRO as well,” causing hide to pout and say, “What about it?” Why he was sulking about that, Kiyoshi did not know. It was just one of hide’s unique characteristics.
- Hide was like a school kid in things like this, but Kiyoshi explains that he was similar himself, in that he always got envious when he saw someone tall for example. He always wanted to look like HAKUEI, or Acchan (Buck Tick’s Atsushi Sakurai). Somehow it often happened that a band was made of people who were all roughly the same size, and hide’s band was no different.
- They often talked to each other about their style and about how to do tings now that they were past 30. A part of them wanted to go with the momentum, but they weren’t kids anymore. They didn’t want to get stuck at a strange style, but that was in conflict with that pink head. They talked about hair and clothes a lot.
- hide and Kiyoshi had similar interest. During the PSYENCE tour, they gave off a “psychedelic and sporty” vibe. It wasn’t really something found among people who did industrial music, so they thought about adding some glam on top of it.
- Kiyoshi had long orange hair at the time. He actually got tired of it after the PSYENCE tour and dyed it blue, but when he was out drinking with hide, hide told him, “Kiyoshi, you’re pale so that colour doesn’t suit you. It makes you look like a sick child.” Hide always nagged when you did something he thought wasn’t good. When it came to fashion and hair, he did that a lot.
- At the suggestion that maybe hide just wanted Kiyoshi to look cool, Kiyoshi speculates that hide wanted his own band because he was after some idealized image. He was strict at a high level – they had to be cool, but just being cool wasn’t enough.
- Spead Beaver came to life on New Year’s Day 1998, then they filmed a video [for “Rocket Dive”] right after. For that, they all gathered at the studio in Nishiabazu [a part of Tokyo]. Normally, they would go drinking after finishing, this time, they spend the night in a business hotel after. They checked in at 1 or 2 AM, and when they were all in the lobby, hide happily declared, “This is just like being on tour, right?”, only to add that since it was like being on tour, they should all get up at 7 AM. So they all just got a few hours of sleep. They couldn’t go drinking that early, but hide was happy just to hang out in the lobby with everyone.
- After that, they went to L.A. to film the PVs for ever free and Pink Spider. The day they arrived, they were called to the studio for what they were told would be a “trial shoot”. Only Kiyoshi was a day late because of other work. When he arrived, he was handed a guitar and had a moment of “This song? I don’t know it,” regarding ever free. When he said he had never heard that song, hide said, “Don’t say that!”
- The next day, they filmed the PV for Pink Spider, which also took a long time. The filming happened in a famous, aging hotel that had been turned into an apartment building, and it was pretty harsh once again. The residents were shouting at them from the windows and syringes were falling on them from above. Since it was a rather dangerous place, they were accompanied by a policeman, but it was especially bad for the staff operating the equipment. When they happened to ride the elevator with a brawny western resident, he suddenly damaged their machine. But when confronted with the bandmembers with their strange makeup and colourful hair, they mostly just looked away. They must have been strange lifeforms for them – scary but fascinating.
- Regarding the photos of the “7 Idiots”, Kiyoshi thought something like that won’t happen again. They thought about doing it and then didn’t. At that time, they were all feeling numb, while also thinking about how to move on. There were 40 – 50 lives planned for the Ja, Zoo tour. DIE also had an additional 50 – 60 stops touring with the band Glay, putting him at around 100 lives in one year. They talked about things like that a lot, all of them feeling a little overwhelmed.
- hide also had Zilch and the tour in the US coming up. But if Kiyoshi thinks about it, he feels like hide was conflicted about that at the time. When he was drunk, he would say, “Play guitar for Zilch”, and when Kiyoshi answered, “Okay,” he would get angry and go, “Don’t just say Okay!”
- Maybe he was struggling a lot. There was talk about performing with Marylin Manson at Budokan, but in the middle of that, he also talked about doing it with Spread Beaver as well. In the beginning, hide divided his activities into Japan = Spread Beaver, international = Zilch. Then he came to think that rock made by the Japanese might be enjoyed elsewhere as well. Nowadays, V-Kei has made it aboard, but hide already saw that 10 years earlier and figured it would be interesting to take Spread Beaver to America as well as Zilch. Kiyoshi feels that that was why hide wanted him to play with Zilch. He probably had a lot of conflicted feelings like that about his music. They often talked about it. They had all started doing music because they admired western music, so unconsciously they aimed for a sound like that. On the other hand, rock made in Japan was fun, and westerners weren’t exposed to melodies written by the Japanese at all. Kiyoshi thinks that Spread Beaver would have been better for incorporating that. Zilch didn’t care about the melody. Hide struggled with that a lot.
- Spread Beaver offered a lot of possibilities – also the possibility to fight with each other again. When they were drunk, they quarrelled all the time. That never changed.
- When Chirolyn, drunk, would say, “This crime scene –”, hide would go, “Don’t call it a crime scene! It’s a band!”, flip the table and rampage around. Recognizing the pattern, Kiyoshi would stop it. Quarrels like that happened every night.
- Regarding Spread Beaver’s prospects, Kiyoshi can only say that hide seemed to have solid plans for the tour. After that, he wanted to record with everyone. Until Ja, Zoo, he had done all the recording himself, but he said he wanted to do something with everyone.
- He wanted them to be a real band, because he really liked that hand. He hated it when the band didn’t have a name yet, and Kiyoshi thinks he called it Spread Beaver because he didn’t like it when people called it “hide Band”. They all understood that hide made the band to realize his own ideals. Being in it felt good. It was an environment where they made music while mutually respecting each other. It was fun, and there was a balance between hide’s wishes and theirs. Hide also said he later wanted to make a band where everyone could sing.
- What hide meant to Kiyoshi: A strange person. A friend. A friend with whom he could talk about all kinds of things, fight, do lives together, and with whom he shared a mutual respect. A guy with whom he could fool around even as their bodies calmed with age, and who was a stimulating influence. There were a lot of things only hide could do. A lot of people wanted to be like him, but no one could. Kiyoshi thinks there were a lot of things only hide could do, a lot of things only he possessed. A strange person Kiyoshi did not understand. He did something important for him when he invited him into his band, which was a turning point in his life. And all that is always going to live on inside him.

Thought too hard about Heian-kyo again, mad at all its missed potential again… how could they build up the importance of the connection between Limbo and Danzou in so many ways, Shimousa and her interlude of course but also in the way she fears the dark sun, the way she mentions in Kotarou’s interlude how she feels like the sun “mocks and ridicules” her only for her to fall under the control of a man associated with the sun, the way he mentions how good he is at destroying machinery, and so on.
And they even have him go so far as to invite her and her son as the only two servants allowed into his world to follow up on his threats only to do practically NOTHING with it!!! It’s a fascinating relationship that has not left my mind since its introduction in Shimousa, and this chapter should have been the big conclusion of their story, the beginning even suggests it will be!! I wouldn’t even mind it not being the main focus so long as it was a major subplot like in Shimousa? But instead we get that half assed chapter where they only talk a handful of times and Danzou doesn’t do much at all, until they briefly remember her at the end (and thankfully she does get the killing blow, but there’s just… so little with them surrounding that moment, it’s like they last second went oh yeah I guess she should be the one to kill him and that’s it… no reflection of her breaking free of him or anything…)
