Dear cacklers...We are gathered around this post today so that I: current self proclaimed kinkshamer; may share my observations of one villain Kraven of the Spiderman 2 game.
That man is too excited by the hunt.
Too interested in dying from the hunt.
I'm sitting there watching some game plays and having things explained to me by my little brother and as more time passes the more sus everything this dude's every action is.
Like I'm at the point where I feel like the guy needs to stop what he's doing to take a cold shower and maybe take like 5 (hours) to just fuckin chill out.
Cuz the man's a freak.
Like: super freak, super freaky🎵
And I'd personally recommend that he gets all the therapy. And if he DO got a therapist he clearly isn't paying them enough or needs a better one or BOTH!
When I tell you...the tension was bordering on sexual in most encounters...💅🏽
Too many small moments...and I admit that I might have been exaggerating for the lols a bit as my ✨️dirty mind✨️ decided it wanted to act up.
But the scene where Peter/Venom put this guy in a scary tentacled chokehold and he had the audacity to look pleased and THEN TAKE IT FURTHER BY BEGGING HIM TO DO IT HARDER??!!!!
I was couldn’t breathe around the pterodactyl noises that were surprised out of me from that...
CLEARLY...I wasn't imagining things before that scene if this motherfucker is now over here going like: choke me like you hate me but you love me🎵
Except with the full on aura of: ~I love the kind of woman that can actually just kill me~
Looking ass.
Had me dying lowkey fr wondering if this dude had always been a sexual deviant or if it's just this game iteration. Because he's honestly one of the villains I don't really remember from my childhood.
Now Venom out here lowkey being a hoe, with his thick ass, trying to show everyone what that tongue do as I (yell at the tv and) demand he put that thing back where it came from is completely normal and familiar.
For comparison purposes.
I am not familiar with a hunter (in Spiderman) so thrilled for a hunt he's willing to do mind games to break a person into not holding back and undo their "cures" so that he can fight them when they're no longer themselves. Getting into personal spaces, constantly grinning, goading and insisting, what the body language is saying...and in the case of this particular scene...begging.
Tumblr media
Now I don't know if this man is gay...but that was fucking gay. 🤣
Why he look like he might be ready to bust a nut over this other man ✨️~consensually~✨️ roughing him up? And there's tentacles involved? 👀 que the lip biting 🫦
Gotta be somewhat gay.
And that's kwel or whatever but maybe NOT want sexual pleasure in them maiming and then killing you.
Kraven? More like Kray-kray.
Cuz that shits beyond fucking weird, wrong even, and I will stand by this.

they didn't need to make kraven the hunter that sexy in the new spider-man game. they didn't need to make him tell you "harder" while you choked him out, but they did, and it was both for me and to my detriment

The Batfam as quotes from my quote book part 4
(Part 1 here)
Tim: “I am the dumbest man alive and also the most academically dishonest.”
Cass: “I’m surrounded by either future murder authors or future murderers.”
Dick: “This is not a cult. We have M&M’s.”
Tim: “So which college would I be?”
Damian: “…so, Brown University has a 40% gay population-“
Jason: “My memory does not reach the required levels of punk rock for me to recall.”
Duke: “You listened to headbanging and doom on Monday nights.”
Ivy: “Are you photosynthaphobic?”
Jason: “Kill ‘em with kindness, and also a pistol for good measure”
Babs: “Eenie meenie miney moe. Just engage in a bit of digital bibliomancy.”
Steph: “Go to a psychiatrist! uwu.”
Bruce: “He asked me ‘do you want to be a cougar?’ and I said ‘don’t ask me like that.’”
Duke, in a crossover event: “You’re Kraven the Hunter? Who’s this hunter and why do you find them so interesting?”
Kraven the Hunter: “Please stop making this weird.”
Damian, paraphrasing his grandpa: "What, you don't want your soul enslaved forever? But it's all the rage with kids these days!”

kinda sad that kraven the hunter is going to be the last sony spider-man verse movie. where else am i gonna watch a major studio release big-budget superhero movies starring some number of famous people that were all terrible box office bombs with such abysmal-sounding scripts i didn't understand who signed off on them? it was so funny! and made even more so by the fact that the venom movies were their only successes because they leaned into being a gay rom-com between a man and his alien parasite!

no need to honor this with agreement or disagreement, I just need to tell someone and you're the first spider-man blog I thought of.
my dad is into comic heroes but he's a tv-only and manages to come up with a straight explaination for anything gay (he called symbrock a metaphor for addiction for example) and I, mostly as a joke, asked him what spider-man character he thinks is gay. he said Kraven so make of that what you will.

Just a hundred percented Spider-Man 2
Here are my thoughts on the side-missions and little quests.
The Flame story was pretty great as it was nice seeing Yuri again and her Wraith costume was sick as SHIT. I question how she's able to fight so well since that...never seemed to be established in the first game, but oh well. Also, the Carnage set-up felt nice and I'm excited to see what comes of that.
Finding Sandman's memories was worth the feeling that I was helping Flint Marco. It's the most Spider-Man thing to do by helping a villain with their insanity and the ending to the mission is pretty warm, I won't lie.
The drones were a pain to follow, mainly because I'm not the best with the Web Wings. I'm fine when I'm swinging on my own and just want a light glide, I'm good. When I have to follow a strict line, I'm all over the place. But the reveal that Kraven was hunting down the Chameleon was pretty cool and I'm excited to see what comes of that in the future.
The Brooklyn Visions requests SHOULD have been more cute, but they felt tedious if anything else. I WANT to like helping a gay student ask his boyfriend out to Prom or something, but, like...it didn't feel fun. Nor was it fun to do that scavenger hunt around the school, looking for places that I have NO IDEA where they were. Maybe if the school was more relevant in the game, it'd be no sweat to find stuff, but as is it's...rough.
Finding the instruments for that Harlem museum was nice, I can see Spider-Man doing that, but the "big twist" was pretty predictable and it didn't need to be a big side quest.
I couldn't hunt down those Spider-Bots without looking up guides. I'm sorry. I don't have the patience to swing around the city looking for them, especially with those crime alerts popping up every five seconds, distracting my search. Yeah, I could ignore the alerts, but...would Spider-Man? I'm also really curious what that last cutscene with that PS1 woman was about. Oh, well, that's for a future game to decide.
The Mysterium's were fun, quick challenges. I didn't even know I was beating them with the top score because of how easy it was to get through them. And the final "Mysterio" boss fight was a pretty great way to end it.
Howard's final request got to me :'(...
I liked Hailey's little adventure, especially when the game tries to simulate being deaf by cutting out the volume to near silence and how you could feel sound through the vibrations of your controller. It's pretty cool.
The Heal the World quests felt tedious too. I felt like I was doing great work, but it was not fun to do some of those things. Especially when the game tries to force how some big crimes were going down around them and it just...doesn't work.
The Prowler hideouts were a bit tedious too, but it was sweet to hear stories between Aaron and Jefferson, making it feel like I was getting a bit more of a reward for doing it all. Plus the ending is pretty warm too, and I'm into warm endings.
I liked getting photos for Robbie, especially for the stories he gave with them, offering a real New York experience (I assume). Could be a little tedious at times, but Robbie's one of my favorite Spider-Man side characters, so I don't mind.
I feel like the Hunter bases would have been more fun...if the stealth in the game was fun. I liked the stealth in Spider-Man 1, it created an extra challenge. But with how overpowered Miles and Peter are, you can blow through each base no sweat as long as you remember to shut off the reinforcements computer. It actually creates a funny visual that in the middle of this giant fight, Peter/Miles goes "Hold on a sec" before shutting off the computer. And I guess the fight is fun and exciting, but in this game, stealth is pretty much worthless.
And the Symbiote Nests were the best kind of intense. It got frustrating when I died with ten seconds left on the clock, but rewarding when it finally ended. For me, it's better to go as Peter because it actually feels like his Anti-Venom powers do more damage than Miles' abilities. Also, don't waste all your abilities on the brutes. You'll need them all fully charged for real emergencies and with the brutes it's better to just use one at a time if you could.
And that's it. That's my thoughts on every thing in Spider-Man 2. I'll admit that the game didn't feel as ADDICTING to play as the first one was. When doing all these little missions and side quests in the first game, I was down because each one was so fun to play. Here, there's a lot of...tediousness in these quests and the rewards aren't always as strong. I do like the story beats that come with them, primarily the Mysteriums and the Flame stuff. But for the quests themselves, there could have been more polish to them.

also on "characters I don't really ship but definitely have a gay vibe": kraven. dude. there's layers to this isn't there. I don't even know where to begin to unpack whatever you've got going on but it is not an attraction to women. as if the outfit wasn't clue enough, but you know.
Tumblr media
"you recoil.....why? Does my affection embarrass you?"
overall, the entirety of klh, he also seems to view his relationship with Spider-Man as incredibly intimate, although hostile; and as we see here, he's sad when the hunt ends. his obsession with Peter goes past a beast he wants to kill, otherwise he would have really killed him. he also talks about how he considers it an "honor" to do all of this, and recognizes both the man and the beast (viewing peter as someone possessing a great evil in the form of the Spider, which he comes to see as encompassing all forms of failure & death, especially those that befell his parents, and compares it to his own duality, of both being the civilized man & the hunter kraven.)
Tumblr media
and he relates essentially all relationships to that of predator and prey, regardless of how he feels, he sees civilization as only the mask above the animal. so, when he hunts spiderman, it is something intimate to him, it is more than hatred, there is certainly already fascination & obsession, but also yeah, it probably is gay, is what I'm saying- this is the only way in which he defines closeness to anyone, & only feels he has satisfied his life's goal and could possibly find peace after this incident with Peter, even if (SPOILERS) it closes with his suicide. he begins the story ready to die, and this is his final act, as we know from the title. but it becomes very clear it's not just about "revenge", nor even wearing his skin as a trophy, nor even just "beating" spiderman at his own game, although those are part of it.....it's about understanding him wholly and fully, seeing him as no one has seen him before, inside and out, in life and death, as the man and the spider. again. that seems kinda gay to me. the gayness isn't The Point (I'd argue the themes around mortality & "beastliness" itself are more compelling), but it's definitely present.

Spider-Man: Comics Recommendations (The Eighties, First Half)
MASTERPOST
Following my guide for the sixties (here!) and the seventies (here and there!), here's a list of what I personally recommend reading from the years 1980-1984. As previously, we go chronological.
Dazzler, Black Cat and Belladonna
Tumblr media
In contrast with the second half of the 70s, I feel like a lot happens during the early 80s. ...Or so I thought, but I didn't remember how far those issues started. Remember the new cast? Peter's coworkers? They won't amount to anything for the most part. As a consequence, I will freely skip over issues that might contain (very slight) development for them if I don't like them. Believe me, you won't miss much.
First, let's start off with a bunch of one-offs. Check out SSM (Spectacular Spider-Man, remember?) 35 for a touching reunion with the Mindworm, SSM 40 for the Spider-Lizard (don't ask) and SSM 43 for Belladonna. I love her. Finally, read SSM 44-45 for gorgeous (if inconsistent) art.
Then, switch over to ASM 203-205 (ASM for Amazing Spider-Man, naturally) for a Dazzler one-off and Black Cat's return. Peter gets some needed development, as does the Cat. Or does she? And with this, Wolfman's run ends.
2. O'Neil: Let's have some fun!
Tumblr media
You don't need to see Debra Whitman's misery circus, so let's skip to ASM 209 for a fun Kraven story, then read What If #24, What If Spider-Man Had Rescued Gwen Stacy. It has a lot of great moments. Switch over to SSM 47-48 for not only Belladonna's return, but also Hobie's! Maybe read SSM 52 for a dull, but somewhat interesting story, then ASM 216 for a Madame Web story that's neat. Next, read SSM 54-56 & 58 for funny issues (see the panel illustrating this part), and check out the extras from SSM Annual 3. Continue with ASM 219-222 for Peter in prison, a team-up with Moon Knight, a queer ally cowboy and more comedy.
I tried to keep the senseless misery to a minimum, but you'll still have a glimpse of it amidst the comedy.
3. Good Luck, Peter!
Tumblr media
Roger Stern is often considered the run to skip to after Conway's, and while I don't agree, I do think he gave us great material. He wrote the Dazzler story I recommended above, by the way.
Check out ASM 223-225 for quality stories of various kinds. Afterwards, look at SSM 61, then 63-66 for Harry's return, Cloak and Dagger (future regulars to the point of overdose), as well Kraven and Calypso's silly shenanigans.
Now, go back ASM 226-227 for Black Cat's lovable return, and 229-232 for another Madame Web appearance, Spidey and Ned Leeds being gay, and Annual 16 for both the new Captain Marvel and cute Peter moments.
Okay, it's time to settle things with Debra. Poor girl. Go read SSM 73-77, not only for this, but also to see Black Cat again! And this time, she's here to stay...
4. The Hobgoblin
Tumblr media
Peter needs to let off some steam, and the new Goblin in town might very well do the trick... Check out ASM 238-245 for his first appearances, some soap and a welcome change to Peter's life. Then switch over to SSM 85-86 for more Hobgoblin. Issue 86 in particular is a favorite of mine.
Now, back to ASM 247-251 it is! There's a kid who collects Spider-Man stuff, and Peter is in minishorts. To conclude this part, read SSM 87-89 to see Spidey reveal his secret identity to a special someone, with important consequences...
At this point, most guides would tell you to read the event Secret Wars, but let me tell you: it's positively awful. Battles after battles after battles. Very stodgy. Still, if you want to read exactly how Spider-Man got his new costume, skim through it to see the five relevant panels.
5. The Black Costume
Tumblr media
Miraculously, we go from Stern's run to DeFalco's pretty cleanly. Read ASM 252, then 255 to see how Peter deals with his return on Earth. It's pretty magical. Switch over to SSM 90-93 to see how Spidey and Felicia deal with their recent developments and a new villain that's questionable.
Now, things take a turn in ASM 256-258 where we receive new revelations... and if you want more of them, you'll have to wait for my next post, because we're done with the first half of the 80s!
